Aizawa had enough time to blitz through the staff room, snatch Hizashi’s extra sunglasses from his desk and steal Vlad’s cup of coffee out of his hands on the way to his own classroom. The bell rang right as his foot crossed the threshold.
And it was chaos.
~~~
Aizawa gets a concussion and sleeps in on the first day of class. He doesn't have time to prep, he doesn't have time for coffee, or cats, and his day goes downhill from there.
Quirk Apprehension Test Arc
I think I am gonna go hardass Aizawa route, but one who treats his students equally. He'll still be an asshole, but I think I'm gonna set him up to get called out.
His introduction doesn't change much. He's still in his sleeping bag and still does the QAT instead of orientation. But he has the 1A do two separate tests; one to test their quirk usage and the other to test their physical ability. And he doesn't threaten to expel them (that was never a stipulation of the test), this is just a way for him to find out what needs to be worked on.
Izuku does well on the physical tests, but struggles a lot with the quirk tests. The ball scene still happens, but Aizawa a) doesn't threaten to expel Izuku and b) tears into Bakugou about using his quirk irresponsibly and against his classmates.
Class Ranking for Physical Test (the Quirk Test ranking stays the same):
Eijiro Kirishima
Mashirao Ojiro
Mezo Shoji
Rikido Sato
Tenya Iida
Mina Ashido
Shoto Todoroki
Katsuki Bakugou
Fumikage Tokoyami
Izuku Midoriya
Momo Yaoyorozu
Koji Koda
Tsuyu Asui
Denki Kaminari
Hanta Sero
Ochako Uraraka
Minoru Mineta
Toru Hagakure
Yuga Aoyama
Kyoka Jirou
So, the reason I had Aizawa do a physical test too is because I find it so weird how quirk oriented he is in canon. Someone who literally erases quirks and isn't given any physical advantage from his should be aware that a) heroes should be proficient without relying on a quirk and b) a strong quirk isn't needed to be an efficient hero. He should also have a distaste for people who are reckless with their quirks (which he does have for Izuku but not Bakugou?? Weird). This is where him being inconsistent really comes into play.
(It's like Horikoshi goes out of his way to have canon reinforce quirkism, it's weird)
Don't get me wrong, he's still an asshole. He still thinks Izuku was being lazy with his quirk and he still thinks that Izuku is also to blame for him and Bakugou's awful relationship. But he's way harder on Bakugou than in canon and disciplines him more. Like I said, he's going to get called out for his judgmental behavior and arrogance.
To add to this, Iida and Uraraka seeing Bakugou about to attack Izuku is the start to both of them really disliking him. Iida already didn't like him because of his feet on the desk (based Iida, I can't stand people who do this), but Uraraka, who grew up poor, can't stand his entitled and privileged attitude. She tries to see the good in everyone, but Bakugou makes it hard. She hates that he looks down on others and thinks he's better than everyone else. She would love to knock him down a few pegs.
(foreshadowing)
#mha rewrite#bnha critical#mha critical#anti aizawa shota#anti bakugou katsuki#quirk apprehension test#don't @ me for that mina placement#she's possibly the most agile in the class and she DANCES#i also tried to factor in how characters like shoto momo and bakugou rely on their quirk#which is why they're a lot lower than in the qat#kirishima's on top bc come on he literally has workout equipment in his room i don't think calling him the most physically fit is a stretc#i also firmly believe that jiro is physically the weakest in the class
MHA 424 leak reactions
I thought I’d go to sleep on MHA 424 and think on it overnight, and honestly I’m still inclined to keep out of the conversations happening at the moment. I understand the emotions of a story not going the way you wanted, but we are just beginning the epilogue arc. There are at least 6-8 chapters left, and that is a LOT of space for Horikoshi to land this plane. I see folks screaming how the thematic narrative failed, how hero society will keep making the same mistakes, how OFA’s “old” purpose was to kill but it’s “new” purpose is to save so WTF happened, etc….but none of that is true YET. We only know the current status of AFO and Tomura, and even then we don’t have the FULL story — Horikoshi is doing the thing where he only showed us PART of the Izuku-Tomura conversation in 423, and then dropped a new part of that conversation via flashback in 424. What else haven’t we been shown yet? Moreover, the story is now back at UA. The titular “hero academia,” as Horikoshi’s author note pointed out. UA is the heart of hero education where hero students learn to use their strength to correct the unfairness of the world (as Aizawa said before the quirk apprehension test). Maybe this time, instead of using their quirk strength, they’ll use their experience and their big hearts to change the world for the better. And if that’s true, then maybe Horikoshi still has some more “magic of friendship” in store for us.
I Think I Know Why I Dislike Bakugou's Writing
Yes I know I just did the AFO/Asano Meta, but I feel like I need to do this too
To clarify: this is not me bashing on Bakugou. I want to like Bakugou. If you like Bakugou, you aren't wrong. You just deserve better for him.
Let's begin.
For at least a week now, I have had a picture open in a tab on my browser. This picture is something that I was beginning to think was made up by an Ao3 author because I had only ever seen one mention of it. And now that I've found it for myself, I found myself holding on to it and trying to figure out how to feel about it.
But now that's led to me finally having a way to verbalize the issues I have with how Bakugou has been written throughout the series.
On paper, Bakugou has one of the most interesting character arcs in manga. He goes from being a self-absorbed asshole with a superiority-inferiority complex who only wants to be a Hero because they win fights to the genuinely Hero Midoriya believes he can be.
In practice... well.
Let's play a game really quickly. I'll describe a scene from My Hero Academia, and I want you to guess what chapter it is. It doesn't have to be exact, just a general idea. Here's the scenario:
Midoriya manages to use a Quirk that's destructive to him without seriously hurting himself, and is proud of this accomplishment. In response, Bakugou gets incensed and physically attacks him.
Thought about it? Got an idea? Keep that in mind for later.
So here is my issue with Bakugou: there are two Bakugous. I know that sounds weird but let me explain what I mean. I'll call them Interim Bakugou and Dramatic Bakugou.
Dramatic Bakugou saw his classmates at the Battle Trial and realized that he wasn't the Big Man on Campus. He was furious with Todoroki for not using his fire at the Sports Festival, and infuriated by his internship with Best Jeanist. Dramatic Bakugou was kidnapped by the League because he's an asshole. He blames himself for All Might retiring, and he failed the Provisional License Exam because he's a asshole. Dramatic Bakugou told a kid that he needed to acknowledge his own weakness, took a hit for Midoriya in the War Arc, and apologized to him.
Dramatic Bakugou is improving as a person and a Hero.
Dramatic Bakugou also barely appears in the manga.
We are instead left with Interim Bakugou, the Bakugou who exists in the interim between dramatic moments. Interim Bakugou has not changed from his first appearance on the first page of Chapter 1, when he was five, beating the shit out of Midoriya.
Interim Bakugou tried to attack Midoriya on Day 1, and tried to kill him on Day 2. Interim Bakugou listened in on a private conversation about how Endeavor's obsessions broke him and learned nothing. Interim Bakugou told the League of Villains that he wouldn't join them because he likes how Heroes look when they win. Interim Bakugou told the Help Us Company actors to fuck off. Interim Bakugou dragged Midoriya out to Ground Beta to beat the shit out of him because he was butthurt about his exam and making it all about him. Interim Bakugou won the Joint Training Battle because he wanted to be the Undisputed Best. Interim Bakugou never calls people by their real names.
Interim Bakugou called himself Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight. Interim Bakugou told the class that Deku is fucked in the head and doesn't care about what happens to himself, while ignoring that he called Midoriya 'Useless' so often Midoriya responds to it like his own name. Interim Bakugou uses Deku right up to the moment that Dramatic Bakugou apologized for inventing it in the first place.
Interim Bakugou never changes, no mater how much Dramatic Bakugou tries.
Here, let me prove it. You remember that game I had you play a few paragraphs ago, yes? What chapter did you say? Chapter 7, during the Quirk Apprehension Test?
Well, I have to admit that I lied a little. That picture I've had on my browser for the past week or so? It's actually a screencap of the manga.
This is from Chapter 253, after Midoriya shows his progress with Blackwhip.
This is five chapters away from the start of the War Arc.
This is 69 chapters before he apologizes, most of which aren't focused on him at all.
This is within the Final Saga, as Horikoshi puts it.
And Interim Bakugou is indistinguishable from Orientation Day eleven months ago
I will freely admit that this is clearly meant to be a joke, and that he did not hurt Midoriya as severely as the class is acting, but the behavior is still there. It hasn't changed a bit. Interim Bakugou hasn't changed a bit.
Dramatic Bakugou, in a flashback, confessed to All Might that he used to bully Midoriya.
Interim Bakugou still does.
This is why I don't like how Horikoshi writes Bakugou. I want to like Dramatic Bakugou and follow his journey, but for every step forward he takes, Interim Bakugou takes two steps back. All of his apologies feel hollow because Interim Bakugou is demonstrably the same.
And that's why his apology rings hollow. Here's a transcript of it from my fan translation of choice:
Do you remember what I told you after Shigaraki stabbed me? (...) "Don't even think about winning this alone!" After yelling that out, my body moved on its own, and I was impaled. Yet I knew that I had to tell you those words.
I always looked down on you, just because you were Quirkless. You were always far away behind me, yet, I felt that you were somehow miles ahead of me. I hated that. I didn't want to feel like that. And I didn't want to recognize that. It's why I grew so distant from you and always tried to beat you down.
I opposed you and tried to show my superiority over you. But I always lost. After entering UA absolutely nothing went as I thought it would. I spent all my days trying to figure out your strengths and weaknesses.
It probably doesn't mean anything telling you all this but that's what I really think. Izuku... I'm sorry for everything I've done up until now.
The path you took as a successor of One For All is exactly what All Might did. Your choices weren't misguided at all. But as of now, you can barely stand on your own. Your ideals alone can only take you so far. If you ever encounter a road bump, you can always count on us for help. To surpass All Might, your ideal Hero, we would all have to protect UA and the civilians in there together. It's the only way.
There are three parts to an apology.
You have to be sorry for the harm you caused. Bakugou says that he is.
You have to understand how you hurt them. Bakugou... acknowledges that he "grew distant" and "beat Midoriya down."
You have to either ask how to make it right, or promise never to cause that harm again. Bakugou... promises that they'll all surpass All Might.
Though I will give him credit for acknowledging the protection of civilians, good job Dramatic Bakugou.
Dramatic Bakugou seemingly can't apologize for Interim Bakugou, because Interim Bakugou isn't sorry. Interim Bakugou is the same as always.
So the truth is that I love Dramatic Bakugou's character arc, and I hate Interim Bakugou for not having one
Thoughts on BNHA Movie 4 You're Next
If I had to summarise this movie, I would say "It's the Yakuza Arc done with a bigger budget"
I am not saying that I dislike the Shie Hassaikai arc. I much prefer Overhaul over Dark Might as a Villain.
Just saying that the movie plot is about a crazy man, with a quirk that can reassemble matter, who took over the crime family of his father figure by force; and is exploiting an innocent orphan girl's quirk to benefit his crime family. And by the 3rd act of the movie, turns himself into a giant monster using his quirk.
If I haven't spoiled things so far, I will start from now on:
The movie starts by showing Valdo Gollini (Dark Might) watching the Kamino fight inside his "Stalker room".
It then transitions to Giulio making tea in the middle of a destroyed city.
We then change focus to Class 1-A who is chasing after villains who stole a truck of food. The 3 villains have the quirks of: merging himself with vehicles and becoming a Pixar Cars, A human Rubber Ball, and Throwing explosive sharp boomerangs.
The class split into 3 groups: Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto seem to be the "leaders" of each group.
We are then thrown into the main plot of the movie. izuku's group receives a new apprehension quest. The villain can eat anything with the mouth on his chest.
But when Izuku arrives, the VIllain looks different from his mugshot, he has extra mouths growing from his back, and he has Anna with him.
When Izuku tries to rescue Anna, she moves away, preventing him from touching her. But his hand glances at her finger and Izuku sees roses blooming everywhere around him before a shock of pain causes him to fall.
After a fight, we see Giulio trying to kill Anna. She is saved due to a time bubble created by one of the antagonists.
We then move to the meeting with the main antagonists.
This is the Gollini Family, one of the largest criminal groups in Europe. Valdo Gollini is the current head of the family after he killed his Father. Valdo has a weak Ego, his father told him that he would never be the head of the family due to his inability to gain respect from others. Valdo thinks that using his power to cause fear is how he gains respect and adoration. That is how he thinks All Might is respected, by floundering his massive power to subdue others through fear he gains respect. So he tries to become the new All Might to prove that point.
Here is where I think Overhaul was done better. Kai never wanted to take over the Shie Hassaikai, he felt obligated to repay a debt he felt he owed the old Boss. He wanted to give back the prestige and power that the Yakuza had in the old days. The Boss never wanted that, so Kai took on his own hands to make that happen, thinking the Boss would thank him when his plan was completed.
Something that I noticed too, is that Valdo's quirk, Alchemy, does not work on living things. He can turn objects into other objects; he uses gold coins as his main attack. After he is defeated for the first time, we can see that his "All Might face" is more like an All Might costume.
Regarding Izuku, I quite liked his portrayal here. Especially his deconstruction of two of the enemy's quirks: He figured out how to deal with Paulo's quirk. A dome of quirk nullification with a safe zone around him.
As the story progresses we learn that Giulio is Anna's butler. He was hired by her father to suppress her quirk when it goes out of control. Anna's quirk is of the type that is always active, anyone who touches her gets affected. She can temporarily boost someone's quirk to go over their limits. Like Trigger. But it only works on those who are compatible with it. Anyone who is incompatible suffers a seizure and falls unconscious. Another problem is that Anna's quirk is exponentially growing, like Eri's rewind. It stocked up on energy and needs to be released, otherwise, it can cause Anna immense pain.
One day, the Gollini Family finds out about Anna, attacks her house, kills her entire family, and kidnaps her.
That left Giulio injured, he lost his right arm (where his quirk activation resided), his left leg, and his right eye.
Giulio made a promise to Anna to keep her quirk under control, and now due to him losing his quirk, he tasked himself with killing Anna. That is quite bitter. But he sees no other option.
Then we have Izuku giving him hope that there is always a way and that he will stop Giulio from killing Anna because he saw how sad Giulio looked when he was ready to kill her.
We also got our 3rd Mind control quirk. Deborah Gollini's quirk is called Dream, she can cause someone to enter a dream world when they look into her eyes, and have their physical body do whatever she wants. The way to free the people is to hurt Kamile.
Most of the 1-A got under the Dream effects, so here are some of their dreams that we saw.
Shoto wanted a Happy Family
Shoji wanted a Happy Childhood
The movie ends with Anna's quirk going out of control, causing a wake of Quirk Boost, which leads Valdo to turn into a giant Monster and Giulio to let his quirk manifest on his left hand. Giulio uses his quirk on Anna and suppresses it permanently.
My final thoughts are that this is a really nice movie, the premise was quite the same as the Yakuza arc, but I still found it enjoyable. I feel the best part is Giulio and Anna, and their relationship. We also got to see all of 1-A in this movie, and they do have a good share of the screen time.
Also, we got a clear map of where UA is in Japan
My bnha Rewrite/Redesign:
(*I will be trying to keep this as close to cannon as possible while still editing it to make the story and characters more intriguing)
in my Rewrite Izuku grew up in a small apartment in Japan with just his mom, in between their apartment building and the bakugo household was a school that both izuku and katsuki went to, where they bonded over their love of heroes.
When izuku turned 4 he learned he was quirkless, but katsuki developed a very powerful quirk and because of that and the prejudice against quirkless people they began growing apart, by the time they were in middle school katsuki began actively bullying izuku.
but one day after school izuku was attacked by a villain, luckily tho he was saved by pro hero: All might, tho in his attempt to speak to the hero he had grabbed all might as he was about to fly away.
quickly all might realized he was being held onto and landed on a rooftop, during this izuku asked him if all might thought he could be a hero even if he was quirkless. all might said no and left izuku there but what neither realized was that during the commotion the villain escaped and ended up attacking an capturing another kid, katsuki.
A while later near a business street, many heroes showed to try stopping the villain who'd now started a fire as well. izuku witnessed all this and rushed to try and save his old friend.
afterwards izuku is confronted by all might and offered his quirk but Izuku decides he is going to prove he doesn't need a quirk to be a hero.
Izuku (who spent his summer training/studying) gets high points in the practical exam but gets only rescue points in the entrance exam (he meets Ochako an Iida same as he does in cannon) so when he gets his acceptance letter from UA it's to join the support course not the hero course
(* Izuku being in the support course means he won't be there for the quirk apprehension test or the Battle trial arc with class 1A)
(He an Mei become fast friends) Izuku is present for the USJ attack tho, bc he overhears Ochako discussing it an, being excited at the chance to meet Pro heros: 13 & Eraserhead, decides to sneak onto the bus and join the class.
The villains arrive as they normally due, Izuku gets caught in the crossfire of Kurogiri's teleportation an ends up in a secluded area surrounded by villains, he manages to get away an decides to try an help Aizawa when he arrives at the central plaza tho he sees Aizawa trapped under a villain (nomu).
Izuku also sees a villain (shigaraki) leap at a girl (tsu) nearby, he moves quickly to push her out of the way almost getting attacked himself before both students manage to get away.
Finally all might and takes on the villain while the students get Aizawa to safety, All might is overwhelmed by Kurogiri and nearly teleported away before Katsuki jumps in and incapacitates him.
Shoto jumps in an uses his ice to assist while Katsuki notices Izuku an is pissed and confused then tho the nomu attacks, the students being rescued by all might. All might and the Nomu go ahead to head an Izuku begins to panic as he knows about all might's time limit. Luckily tho the heroes arrive just in time an force the villains to retreat.
Afterwards izuku is taken to the infirmary and while getting patched up is ripped a new one by Nezu, Aizawa & Power loader telling him he should be expelled for such reckless behavior, Izuku apologies an explains himself he then begs to join the hero course and brings up how he saved that girl from the villain. Aizawa an the others conced an agree that IF Izuku wins the upcoming Sports festival as well as stay out of trouble he can transfer.
Bakugou becoming a hero of The Hero Public Safety Commission? This idea is interesting, tell me how you planned it and how it will happen? Do you also mind if I take inspiration from this idea, for what Bakugou's fate will be like in my AU?
Feel free to use it 😊. That goes for everyone who’s interested in using it.
This is sort of a rough outline that I have:
- Katsuki either doesn’t make it to U.A due to scoring 0 hero points or gets expelled during the Quirk Apprehension Test/1st Battle Trial
- As U.A’s test scores are public and the HPSC is a government organization that could access it even if it weren’t, they see Katsuki’s brawn and decide he’d make for a good member of their organization
- Katsuki isn’t seen again until after the Stain Arc. During this time he’s been training with the HPSC. Stain’s message shakes them and they start sending Katuski out on missions, despite the fact he’s only been in training for a few months.
- His first missions are pretty basic, just beating up villains that the HPSC have had their eyes on.
- Katsuki quickly becomes famous due to his young age. However, U.A quickly steals his spotlight due to the Summer Camp Arc (either Shoto or Fumikage’s kidnapped in his place). He’s crestfallen about All Might’s retirement but declares he’s going to be the #1 hero.
- Eventually, Katsuki encounters Hawks, who gives him a cryptic message about the corruption of the HPSC. Katsuki being himself outwardly scoffs at the idea, but the seed’s been planted.
- During one of his missions, Katsuki unintentionally saves someone. The person, a child, thanks him. Katsuki uses this time to gloat about him being a great hero, but takes in the good feeling that comes with saving someone.
- Later, the HPSC has Hawks and Katsuki go after a tough villain. Seeing as Katsuki hates working as a team, the mission goes pretty terribly. The villain is defeated, but several lives were lost. Hawks admonishes Katsuki, points out how many people were killed because he refused to follow orders, and tells him that with the way he’s going, he’s only going to be the HPSC’s lap dog rather than an actual hero. All of this shakes Katsuki. When the HPSC talks to him, they praise him and tell him he did a good job. Katsuki brings up the fact people died and the HPSC says that lives lost aren’t important as long as the threat is stopped. With Hawks breaking his worldview and the HPSC affirming it, Katsuki has conflicting views on this now. Confused, he thinks back to Izuku, wonders what he’d do, only to cringe at the fact he was thinking about Izuku for advice. Still, this kickstarts him reflecting about Izuku.
- Soon the HPSC starts sending him out on more missions, except instead of capturing bad guys, now he’s moved on to taking on journalists, protestors, and/or anyone else that might be a threat to hero society.
- Though he has bursts of fame, even having his own merch, he still believes he’s being overshadowed by Izuku and the rest of 1-A as they’re constantly on the news.
- In terms of his missions, Katsuki doesn’t particularly mind completing them seeing as the HPSC frames these people as being a threat to hero society. However, after every mission, Hawks tells Katsuki a bit about each person. One person organized several peaceful protests for the removal of mutant discrimination. One was about to expose a hero for abuse. So on and so forth. Katsuki eventually ask him why he’s constantly telling him about all these people and Hawks asks him if the good guys would arrest people who haven’t committed any crimes. Katsuki brings up what the HPSC says about them being a threat to hero society and Hawks then asks him how these people are threats and that even though they aren’t pro heroes, they’re more of a hero than he is. This causes Katsuki to pause and remember Izuku once more.
- Eventually, Katsuki is ordered to go and find a journalist. This time, the mission is completely different. This time he has to kill the journalist. Despite that incident from earlier where his recklessness caused the deaths of several people, Katsuki’s never taken a life before, and has never taken one directly. He still accepts the mission.
- Before leaving, Hawks gives him one last cryptic warning about what happens if he keeps going down the path he’s going.
- Although hesitant, Katsuki goes to complete the mission. When he finds the journalist, the man immediately can tell Katsuki’s here to kill him. He blurts out that he’s been investigating Endeavor for a while now, that the man has committed several crimes, and goes over the whole Todoroki family backstory. He asks Katsuki if such a guy deserves to be a hero and that if he kills him, he’d only be defending a villain. Before Katuski could respond, a child comes down and wonders what’s going on. Katsuki’s eyes widen when he notices that the child is wearing his merch. The child remembers him as the hero who saved them and gets excited. The journalist shoos away their child and tells Katsuki if he’s going to kill him, then to not do it in front of their child.
- Katsuki suddenly gets numerous flashbacks of All Might, Izuku, and Hawks telling him what it means to be a hero. He tells the journalist to take his family ‘far away’ and he’ll help him fake his death.
- The journalist is surprised, thanks Katsuki, and takes all his valuables. Katsuki then blows up the house, returns to the HPSC, and tells him the mission’s been done. Unknown to him, Hawks was sent to follow him and make sure that the mission was complete. The HPSC praises him, but it makes him feel sick. When Katuski leaves, they ask Hawks if he completed the mission. Hawks lies and says he did.
- Hawks encounters Katsuki one more time and praises him for helping the journalist. This time, Katsuki feels good about being praised.
- A few days later, the War Arc happens. Katsuki is sent to help out U.A.
- Katsuki encounters Izuku, who’s surprised to see him here. Katsuki on the other hand remembers how he treated Izuku, and too scared to confront him, leaves to fight some bad guys.
- Things eventually get to the point where Tomura’s about to skewer Izuku. Katsuki rushes to save him. The whole ‘my body moved on its own’ scene plays out, but this time, Katsuki admonishes himself for being a coward and not apologizing to Izuku earlier and thanks Izuku for helping him realize what it means to be a hero.
- Upon waking up in the hospital, he notices Izuku sitting next to him. Katsuki, groggy, asks Izuku what happened. Izuku mentions that Katsuki saved him. Memories start flooding back, a brief flashback occurs, going from when he bullied Izuku when Izuku was trying to help another kid all the way to when he saved Izuku. Katsuki sobs, startling Izuku. Every traumatic moment from his time with the HPSC catches up to him. Izuku comforts him despite not really understanding why he’s crying. Katsuki then surprises Izuku with an apology, and not an ‘I’m sorry for everything’ kind. He tosses his ego aside and tells Izuku that he’s sorry for the bullying, beatings, and the name calling. He’s sorry for picking on him for being quirkless because even when he was quirkless he was more of a hero than Katsuki ever was. He tells Izuku that he was right when it came to what it means to be a hero and how utterly wrong he was. Izuku’s surprised, with tears in his eyes. He tells Katsuki that he’s really changed, that he’s now a true hero, and that he forgives Katsuki.
- Some of 1-A (the DekuSquad and the BakuSquad) come inside to meet Katsuki, having heard Izuku praise him and are now interested in meeting him.
- Later, Katsuki receives word that the HPSC’s been assassinated and several of their coverups have been uncovered. Katsuki wonders what should he do now. He has a hero license from them, but is too young to start his own hero agency. Nezu invites him to U.A for his heroic performance.
- Katsuki accepts before proudly declaring he’s going to be the best hero ever and that Izuku better watch out. However, instead of his typical arrogant tone, it’s clear that Katsuki wants to improve himself and sees Izuku as a benchmark for the kind of hero he wants to become.
- He also finds out that the journalist he helped ended up leaking all the info he had on Endeavor, confirming Dabi’s story. Katsuki is glad he’s safe and that he won’t be hunted again due to the HPSC collapsing and being exposed themselves.
This is pretty much the basis of how I’d write Katsuki if I was Hori. Hope y’all enjoyed it and let me know what you think 😊.
While I'm working on releasing Rewritten Sparks Episodes 0-10 (Sorry I couldn't get out by the 7th. 🥲🥲🥲), I thought I'd share something about the first day at UA.
@nutzgunray-lvt had the same idea as me in one of their fics, but because Class 1-A wasn't at the Entrance Ceremony it gave the other first years a bad impression of them.
Stryxxxer actually allows 1-A to go to the Entrance Ceremony and instead has the QAT at the end of the day. While this is to establish more world-building, it also makes 1-A a lot more likable than in canon.
Hi @anartisicandautisticstararcher 👋
Take your time it's better to have a rewrite finished in good quality than to rush one. That being said Iam excited to see the rewrite when it comes out.
Yeah I actually agree with that idea. Class 1A not being there for the entrance ceremony would of given them a bad first impression whether that being intentional or not. Honestly Iam not sure if nedzu even allowed this to happen. Hmm however I was actually a fan of people exploring the impacts class 1A had when they didn't come to the entrance ceremony because sure it gave them a bad impression but we never outright see students avoid them or say mean things to them (it's only monoma tbh) also we don't see teachers being a bit biased or even calling aizawa out on what he did. I feel like what really started the hate for 1A was what bakugo did in the sports festival and what happend after the usj arc but the entrance ceremony incident would definitely be a catalyst for sure.
However, it does benefit the students much more if they were allowed to attend the ceremony as it covers important information that the first years need to hear. Having them do the quirk apprehension test after the ceremony would be a million times better. Now Iam not sure how the Japan's first school day works but where I live first years have a shorter day where they attend the ceremony and go home instead of staying at school. The QAT being at the end of day can maybe stir some controversy with the parents of class 1A as no active parent would want their child to have a test on their first day of school and it was also stated that the students middle school results were to carry on to highschool until the first proper day where they had hero classes
I don't get the hate all might recieves from this fickle fandom while Aizawa gets praised over the moon.
Yes All might have told izuku to give up first but I don't see anything wrong now or even when I first watched season 1. The man has more experience and has already seen his fair share of cruelty over the years. He knows the difficulty of being a Hero with a quirk and even with all of that power, It took him losing his stomach to beat AFO. All might was being realistic here. He didn't want to be reckless & give false hope or encouragement here. Also he didn't laugh or outright tell him to quit. He told izuku who had no power to try other ways to become a Hero which was being a policeman.
2nd what did izuku do before meeting all might?. Absolutely nothing. On top of being quirkless He didn't have a strong physique to back it up. Sure he wrote analysis on quirks, heroes and villains but that's not gonna help in the longer run. All Might wouldn't know what Izuku would've gone through in life till this point. He doesn't know izuku was suicide baited. I'm not bashing Izuku but trying to see this from AM's side as well. Maybe he could've seen Izuku's behaviour to determine that the kid was abused but then again the man was also in a hurry and probably wasn't in the right frame of mind after displaying his long kept secret to a middle school kid.
Still All Might fckin apologized for his earlier comments and approved Izuku. He helped izuku get in shape, and gave his quirk. Encouraged him time and time again positively.
Wtf did Aizawa do? Ridiculed Midoriya infront of everyone. Never apologized. Never once supported him and always put izuku's abuser on a pedestal. Heck izuku should've been in top 10 in the apprehension test. He had better physical stats than Denki, Jiro, uraraka ( yeah she wasn't OP with her quirk during that time and had a lot of stamina issues), Koji, Mineta, Toru, Ashido to name some. Are we sure Aizawa didn't rig the exam?. Narrative protected that POS. Never once encouraged Izuku, never helped him when he was struggling with his quirk. Never even bothered to train his students in quirkless combat but went out of his way to tutor Shinso. His only good points are being a good hero and a good gaurdian for Eri but that ain't enough for getting this much praise. He knew Iida was going after Stain but didn't do anything.
All Might has flaws being a teacher but he at least tries his best to help Izuku with his problems and always been there for him. He encouraged his students every time. Trains them and has always been there for them unlike a certain someone.
All of All Might's good points outweigh Aizawa's by a higher margin.
End of my rant, i just see this as too unfair how fanfics bash All might for no fuckin reason while it coddles Aizawa. Especially the Dekuverse fics. Heck Hori himself treats All Might like shit in canon. The Izuku solo arc is a good proof.
All Might deserved better both in Canon and in Fanon.
Hi @bakutrash 👋,
I get it in the sense that the fandom follows suit of what the story itself is doing - AM gets critiqued more than Aizawa by the narrative (since Aizawa is Hori's favoured mouthpiece) and the fandom follows suit.
Dadzawa as a trope is also largely wish fulfilment. The wish to see 1A as a family and the wish to see Aizawa as the 'stern mentor/ father figure with a heart of gold' archetype. When Aizawa is not this - especially not to Izuku.
If anything All Might is Izuku's key mentor / father figure in the story. He made his mistakes in regard to Izuku but made up for them and apologised. AM also does his best to learn how to be a teacher and be supportive to Izuku and take care of him. Aizawa never does and Hori parades all of his actions as logical so the fandom (at large) doesn't critique him for them.
All Might is traumatised but Hori rarely focuses on it (unlike Aizawa's trauma), so it gives him less sympathy and exploration from it by the fans.
All Might fought a battle only his power in OFA could win. It was quirkless Izuku acting to save Bakugou that made All Might aware that Izuku had potential and that he shouldn't have been so hasty to judge him. All Might also didn't know Izuku took to analysis and suggested alternatives to heroics he felt more suited to a quirkless person.
Adding to this, All Might also began Quirkless himself so it's unlikely he would actually hold extreme Quirkist views like I've seen in some bashing fics (actually looking at Canon Aizawa displays more quirkest attitudes than All Might*.)
Yet the majority of the fandom focuses on All Might's intial refusal of Izuku's dreams and scapegoat him for Izuku's lack of self worth. - The narrative does this too, disgustingly through Bakugou's mouth, not acknowledging once that Bakugou and poor Teachers to Izuku (like Aizawa) are the cause of it.
Did Aizawa rig the exam? I think (and a lot of others critical of Aizawa) think he did. As you rightly pointed out Izuku should have been higher in the quirk apprehension test than he did (especially since he trained religiously and followed a training plan made by the Number One hero for months!)
Unironically, Aizawa at the beginning of the story seemed to dislike Midoriya, and consistently he has favoured Bakugou over him (more on this point later.)
He also viewed Bakugou's bullying as a "rivalry."
Why is this?
Other than the actual reason - Aizawa is Hori's Mouthpiece and therefore have him be Bkg's biggest simp to try to make us like him - there are two options.
1) Aizawa is either not as observant as he thinks he is (supported by him falling asleep all the time - so obviously by doing this he would miss things.) 2) OR Aizawa is malicious and thinks Midoriya needs to toughen up and deal with his bully like he did.
Neither of these options make Aizawa look particularly good. But 1) has room for growth and 2) does not.
Where is the logic in the Quirk Apprehension test? It favours those quirks that Aizawa claims he dislikes that the entrance exam favours - those flashy and combattive quirks such as the ones that belong to Bakugou, Todoroki and Yaoyorozo.
Additionally, singling out Izuku like that, on the first day would be realistically massively damaging to a student and to the classes morale overall.
Would you be comfortable with a 'third parent' (as these homeroom teachers are meant to be) or a teacher in general who does that to a classmate or to you the second they show they need some help? I wouldn't be...
Where is the logic in favouring Bakugou (who essentially a worse version of Aizawa's bully at U.A - Sensoji) or Shinsou who didn't work for his dream of Heroism and only attempted to skate in on his powerful quirk? These should both be characters that Aizawa (from what we are narratively told about him) dislike. Yet Hori does not allow this to occur as Aizawa is Hori's favoured mouthpiece and Hori wants him to have a mini me in Shinsou.
*- There appears to be a degree of quirkism ironically at play here. Bakugou is favoured because he is confident and has a quirk that is "perfect for heroics".
Whereas Shinsou is favoured because Aizawa sees someone like himself. The other students - Aizawa isn't shown to care all that much (aside from the additional to the story artworks.)
And as for Eri, Aizawa seems to care for her but honestly we don't see her nearly enough to judge whether he's actually a good guardian. There's also the fact of Aizawa seeming to struggle to take care of himself and how he treats his students so realistically, would he be a good guardian to her?
In universe, in spite of all logic, Aizawa has apparently been teaching as 'hardass ExpellZawa' for years without consequence - against himself or UA as an institution .
And Aizawa has never once reflected on the long term damage that all of his trauma response methods would do on all his students - not just the ones he expelled.
Hori never even had Aizawa question himself at any point - because the fact that he's Hori's mouthpiece means Aizawa is never meant to be wrong so he never believes himself to be. That stunts him as a character.
Even the revelation of Kurogiri as KurOboro didn't make him do this.
Aizawa, as he is in canon, is heavily traumatised, too set in his ways and too much of a mouthpiece for Hori. Hori also either doesn't see the point of or the interest in having Aizawa grow from his mistakes and heal from his trauma - which is a shame.
Whereas All Might, as he is in canon, is also heavily traumatised, has been crapped all over by Hori but is shown to do his best in learning and growing from his mistakes - both as a teacher and mentor to Izuku.
Final thoughts:
Sorry I responded with a rant of my own!
Personally, I find Dadzawa fine in a fic, as long as it has DadMight too OR has Aizawa make up for his mistakes to the class and grow as a mentor.
However, as time has gone on and I've got more into MHA, I find it really irritates me to see a fic bash All Might. Especially using Aizawa to do so, when in canon Aizawa has done much worse as a teacher - especially to Izuku and his past classes.
I stand by the opinion that although Canon!Aizawa may care for Class 1A as he currently acts - he should not be a homeroom teacher or have his trauma responses be praised as 'logical teaching.'
In your rewrite of MHA, without giving away too many spoilers, will Izuku end up with One for All or do you have other plans for him?
Hi! I've already started the rewrite and yes, Izuku does get OFA! Both the Entrance Exam and Quirk Apprehension Test arcs have already been changed. Link to the account for anyone who needs it:
CCK-
As a compromise for the first day Quirk Apprehension test Aizawa has Katsuki do double. One set of scores with the cards and one without. As he doesn’t want to give away the camping trip training and he’ll still need a set of data to compare to the rest of the class. Katsuki does kinda show off on both her rounds of tests of course.
I mean it's good because the Card stuff will also improve? Like.
So during UA is essentially the Master of the Clow Arc. The Cards may be /activated/ by Katsuki's Magic and listen to her commands, but they maintain their existence and the bulk of their power through the remnants of Sakura's Magic (of note: the events of Cardcaptor Sakura did happen in this AU, so Clow made the Cards but Sakura changed them to her own power and now it's Katsuki's turn to do the same).
As Katsuki both transfers the Cards under her own power and grows her own abilities, the Cards will become a lot stronger just like any other ability.
˖°.𓆩♡𓆪 .°˖ CHARACTEROLOGY for @aaprilshowers
𓆩♡𓆪 part of my lovers level — 3k follower event
𓆩♡𓆪 chosen tropes: multiple
˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ YOUR CHARACTERS ARE...
TENYA IIDA
personally , he is the first character i think of when it comes to the whole 'arranged marriage' plot because he comes from a family of heroes so they probably anticipate that his offspring will continue the lineage, hence he's the most likely from class 1-A to get into a quirk marriage. and because of his stern he is , he'll be very apprehensive to show you love at first because he views the marriage as a business arrangement, and that makes for angst. but then the longer he is with you, he'll start warming up to you but you've already put up walls against him so that makes for even more angst because he's longing for his own wife that has trained herself to be distant towards him because of the way he treated you AAAAA. (yes this is a regurgitation of this post but c'mon i'm so obsessed with this angsty quirk marriage dynamic plsss. and it would hit even harder with your personality bc you're naturally so sweet and friendly that it would take a lot of aloof behaviour from tenya to make you detach from him entirely, so the contrast between the before and after would be even greater ARGH)
IZUKU MIDORIYA
ok this is with the 'angst' and soulmate au tropes in mind. but izuku is the most heart-wrenching soulmate you could possibly have. whether it's the 'matching tattoos' soulmate au or the 'timer on your wrist' soulmate au isn't really relevent, but i hc that you and izuku would meet/figure out that you're soulmates very early on. perhaps near the sports festival arc-ish. but basically everything is flowers and rainbows at first, you think you're super lucky to have such a kind and selfless guy as your soulmate and he's very pleased to have you too. but then you notice he starts to put himself in reckless situations where he ends up getting really hurt and you're like 🤨 hoe stop that , i love you and you're my soulmate and i don't want to lose you. and he's like ofc i won't 🥺 and then it's fine for a while but you notice he keeps getting himself in these situations and hurting himself and it really upsets you. and mention it every single time but he uses the excuse he's a hero and it's his responsibility. and then the vigilante era starts were he is literally putting his life at risk to save others and you're so upset by it but he just can't stop, even though he hates seeing you so worried, because he wants to be a good hero and he feels like it's his duty. and overall emotional angst as you have to watch your soulmate almost die on.. several occasions. 😭 but eventually you get a happy ending where he stops being crazy and is more weary for your sake.
DABI
emotional and angst-filled childhood friends to enemies to lovers smut with dabi ?? 👀 nuff said
For being called “My Hero Academia”, we surprisingly don’t know much about the school’s history.
Like, who the hell made a hero school while cities were being leveled. Was it Nedzu? Was it someone else? How old is Nedzu? We don’t even know if he was Principal when All Might was a student.
It would be a testament to Nedzu’s character if, after being experimented on and tortured by human scientists, he saw the hellscape the world had become and thought “I am going to make/look over a school for heroes!”
The history of the school? The Academia in the title barely appears in the story!
Here is a list of the official arcs in this manga and how Academia they are
Entrance Exam (Pretty Academia)
Quirk Apprehension Test (Aizawa ignored orientation. Not Academia.)
Battle Trial (Back to Academia)
USJ (Villain interruption. Not Academia.)
Sports Festival (Back to Academia)
VS Hero Killer (Outsourced learning; school barely appears. Not Academia)
Final Exams (Skipped six weeks of studying/training. On thin ice)
Forest Training (Summer Break, outsourced learning)
Hideout Raid (Not Academia)
Provisional Hero License Exam (Only Academia by association)
Eight Precepts (Outsourced learning)
Remedial Course (Only Academia by association)
School Festival (Finally, Academia!)
Pro Hero (Focuses on Endeavor, Not Academia)
Joint Training (Academia already? New Record!)
Meta Liberation Army (Wait, nope, UA doesn't even appear in this one nvm)
Endeavor Agency (Outsourced learning)
Paranormal Liberation War (UA continues to not even appear)
Dark Hero (Midoriya ran away from school making this one negative Academia!)
Star and Stripe (School doesn't appear)
UA Traitor (School is only the setting; no classes. Not Academia)
Final War (School is only one of the fight arenas. Not Academia)
I haven't said anything about this on Tumblr so I just want to make it clear: I have hate in my heart for the Quirk Apprehension Test Arc. There is not a damn other arc in this show I think is as dumb and out of character as that one.
In no fucking world would Aizawa, who canonically criticizes the UA entrance exam and advocates on behalf of Shinsou because Shinsou happens to have a Quirk that isn't easy to measure in a test, make a test to measure his student's Quirks but do so in such a limited and unfair way.
Not to mention that for half of his students, the tests wouldn't do shit to measure their Quirks. What could Hagakure do to prove her excellence with her Quirk that could be measured in a number? How many of those tests would Jirou's Quirk help her with, or Kaminari's help him? Aizawa's own Quirk is actually a prime example of one that's actually incredibly powerful but could not be measured in a test.
Especially considering Izuku spent the last like nine months training the fuck out of his body, he would have been in the top spots. Certainly not the top spot - I'm sure a lot of students would have gotten above him. Katsuki, certainly; Shouto; probably even Kirishima, if only because Kirishima likes exercising if only recreationally. But there's no way Izuku would have been last.
The entire arc really depends on the fact that 1) this is your first introduction to any of 1A's Quirks (and even then, only a limited number of them get any detail) and 2) you don't know anything about Aizawa and his characterization. The moment those things aren't true - i.e., the moment you rewatch - the arc is actually very bad.
Anyway. I just needed to share my thoughts on that with Tumblr.
#im writing a fic where i want to replicate to some degree the quirk apprehension test#and im like. i don't want to do it at all. its so dumb#but this fic isn't aizawa-centric at all and i just have to suck it up#rambles#mha
