In my genuine opinion, Johan Seong and Samuel Seo being genderbent just feels like it would be better and make sense. For starters, give me female characters who genuinely show their anger and fury. Female characters who genuinely mess up and lash out and grow (because Samuel - as annoying as the guy is - has quite the character development) and strong and less stereotype-fitting female characters.
Secondly, in terms of female Lookism characters specifically - female characters whose trauma isn't sexual (because the representation and existence is important, but why does almost every female character with trauma undergo that?), not dependent on another character, or a straight up abuser (like Samuel Seo's mom, Vivi ran a literal rape and drug ring, and Mitsuki - literally drugging and gaslighting Sinu).
Finally, it would be interesting to see these fighters' interactions not only with each other (the two might feel more a kinship to each other), but also their interctions with each other.

hmrhhrm mattress question if thatā€™s alright- i have always gotten mattresses off of amazon and always twins, but i wanna upgrade to a full (ya boi got a girled friend letā€™s go lesbians letā€™s gooo) but i have no idea whatā€™s a red flag in a mattress and whatā€™s not, and if i should even get it off amazon or if i should try and ask my roommates or girlfriend to go to an actual store with me (unable to drive) nor how iā€™d get it home? a?
Congrats!!
First: Please donā€™t buy a Big Boi bed off Amazon, really go try them together. Itā€™s fun as a couple and youā€™ll get way more options and way better quality.
Second: Fulls 54x74 and Queens 60x80 actually tend to cost the same to make, the only difference is 6ā€ longer and wider, so most rooms that can fit a queen can fit a full. Since youā€™re paying the same youā€™ll get more bang for your buck with a queen.
Third: Red flags are basically just bed in a box. Donā€™t do it. Theyā€™re so crappy, theyā€™re gonna break down faster and give worse back support. Generally for a nice queen size $700+ is gonna be a good solid lasts a long time price point.

episodes with the best santana content?
Heck yeah let's gooo
Season 1
Admittedly not the best Santana season as she wasn't a main character yet but I wanted to give a shoutout to the first two episodes where she plays a larger role in someone else's plot, at least: 1x15 The Power of Madonna and 1x18 Laryngitis. Both are excellent case studies in her comphet, have fire singing moments (1x15 is the first time we ever hear her hellooo) and some generally good Santana content. Her telling Finn it's exhausting to look at him in 1x15 and her initial rejection of Puck in 1x18 are so amusing to me.
Season 2
2x12 Silly Love Songs
There's a buildup to Santana getting her own story in season 2A but it's in the second half, even before the sexuality plot comes in that we get our first real Santana plot. I consider this ep to be the first meaty Santana one where she's doing her own thing that sure, affects others but she's the focus of her own story. She gets her first voiceover and we get treated to so many iconic moments. It's her petty behaviour at its best (worst?) but we get Nurse Santana out of it, so. She's hilarious, she's dramatic, kinda sad, very hot, makes questionable choices. So Santana at her most (early) Santana, basically.
2x15 Sexy
I mean, this one's the biggie. The Hurt Locker begins her defrosting and gives a whole new layer to this previously plain bitchy character, and it's amazing how this episode is actually a culmination of so much and the beginning of even more. On top of the emotional journey she goes on in this episode, we also get Landslide. Can't beat that.
2x18 Born This Way
Many, many iconic quotes, including gotta gay and straight-up bitch and Santana at her most Lady Macbethian. She's scheming but also vulnerable at the end and it's all a car about to crash. I love season 2B Santana so much.
Shoutout to 2x19 Rumours and 2x20 Prom Queen as well but I didn't want to include the whole storyline so I picked 2x18 out of those. Rumours Santana is very special to me though I need to post a draft about that.
Season 3
Let's jump straight to the second half of the season mmm kay. Gosh what is it with Santana and only getting to shine in the back half. Anyway. One (1) scene from season 3A has rights and we'll leave it at that.
3x11 Michael
One of my favourites for her altogether. Not only does she sing her ass off but she's on such a mission to get Sebastian and defend ND's good name. I love to see her put all her passion into protecting the ones she cares about. And she taped it to her underboob! Smh the others should have listened to her and sent Sebastian's ass to juvie.
I realize now that other than that season 3 is kinda lukewarm. She has some kind of role in a lot of episodes but I have some issues with most of the other ones where it's substantial. Still, shoutout to:
3x12 The Spanish Teacher
Screw Will and screw how Santana's righteous anger is framed around how he's still a good teacher, actually, but man this is the one episode that gives us something about what her heritage means to her.
3x13 Heart
Again, I have Issues but good for her for declaring her love for Britt publicly and for fighting for her right to. We love to see it after all that went down in previous eps and would love it even more if it was earned.
3x16 Saturday Night Glee-ver
My archnemesis Matthew Hodgson had to go and ruin it with the sex tape thing (the fucking sex tape thing, man) but Santana does have one of the main plots and I dig how it starts her off on the journey of uncertainty about the future and some good moments. Nowhere near the high of season 2 though.
Season 4
4x08 Thanksgiving
Santana's great in what little we get in season 4A (hey look a first half of the season episode!) but it's this one that stands out to me. For the Quinntana of it all but also her being so good to Marley and actually paying attention and wanting to help. Represents what I love so much about her in season 4.
4x13 Diva
It feels right that she sings the most in this episode and had two solos because it's such a turning point for her. She almost goes down the wrong path but gets a push from Brittany and it's bittersweet but watching her emerge from the subway as Girl On Fire plays is cathartic. I've said it before and I'll say it again, her character-defining song.
4x15 Girls (and Boys) On Film
This like Born This Way represents this whole storyline of Santana moving into the loft and exposing Brody. There are aspects of it I dislike for sure but overall Santana's chaotic behaviour is so amusing because unlike in season 2 her heart is in the right place. She has some hilarious scenes in this ep in particular (that monologue) and overall I find her somewhat misguided but heartfelt attempt at being there for Rachel and Kurt wholesome. And we get the Rachel pregnancy scare at the end of this episode, one of my all-time favourite Pezberry scenes.
4x20 Lights Out
The only thing that sours this episode for me is the lack of follow-up later on but welcome to Glee. Otherwise, it's a great episode for her that continues exploring what Santana really wants to do and has wholesome Kurtcheltana interactions. And can we talk about how gorgeous she sounds in At the Ballet holy shit.
Damn I thought season 4 would have fewer episodes because she was in fewer to begin with. But season 4 Santana my beloved delivers.
Season 5
5x02 Tina in the Sky with Diamonds
If the adorable diner scenes with Dani and Rachel werenā€™t enough, Iā€™ll say this much: yeast-i-stat. Amazing. Useless lesbian Santana is the cutest thing ever and I love her in both Here Comes the Sun and Let It Be. If we ignore the biphobia her scenes with Dani are very cute and reason enough to be the best of season 5.
5x08 Previously Unaired Christmas
Listen, Iā€™m well aware of the chaos that is PUC and the icky aspects of Mall Santa and all that. But Santana Claus? A religious experience. Her scene with the kids is the funniest shit I have ever seen. The Pezberry of it all? Oh my god.
5x18 The Back-Up Plan
I think Iā€™ve spoken more about my love for this episode more than I have for any other which, wow. Anyway if you ignore that the Riverdale guy wrote it itā€™s an amazing episode for Santana and thus I choose it to represent what little she gets in season 5B. Sancedes and Pezberry both have my heart and we get such good content for both as well as strong Santana character moments. She protects the people she cares about šŸ„ŗšŸ„ŗ
Special mention to 5x03 The Quarterback but it feels wrong to include that on this list. And 5x09 Frenemies actually has good content if one can look past the pain of the Pezberry feud. I, personally, cannot.
Season 6
Well there are only four contenders anyway and I think they all have good stuff, parts of both 6x03 and 6x08 but Iā€™ll have to go with:
6x06 What the World Needs Now
What the world needs is exactly this oh my god. Michael Hitchcock I owe you my life, thank you for giving me the Santana content I craved. First of all, Alfie. Second of all, this episode has my favourite Santana quote ever that defines her on a meta level as well as an in-universe one and itā€™s *chefā€™s kiss* A worthy last one on this list.
Santana fans please add anything I might have missed! Or just tell me what you think her best eps are, I'm so curious.

Varya, baby, it's valentine's day so you should have seen this coming: say good and positive things about your favourite ships šŸ’–šŸŒ¹
Ooooh, thatā€™s an interesting one! Letā€™s gooo!!!
HarlIvy - the absolute perfection of friends-to-lovers genre, plus the whole letā€™s-burn-the-world-together-(or-at-least-the-parts-we-donā€™t-like) schtick is amazing. Fanfics where Ivy helps Harley to beat the Joker black and blue make me soft šŸ˜Œ Kudo for being canon!
MCU:
Frostiron - usually has the best Loki hurt/comfort there is. The jokes are endless. Also love it when they create something scientific+witchy together. The height difference makes for hilarious fanart sometimes. Generally speaking, frostiron fandom provides me with happy Loki the way no one else does, bless them for it. I also enjoy the headcanon that Loki was Tonyā€™s bi awakening, because itā€™s fucking hilarious
Frostshield - mhm, the slow burn of learning to trust each other... Nice
Thorki - Very Hot. So much passion, this fandom has The Best PWPs
Though basically any mlm ship that comforts Loki will do (because I firmly headcanon MCU!Loki as gay, itā€™s a long story why).
Natasha/Sharon - basically lives in my head only, if there is a fandom, I wasnā€™t able to find it. But Natasha learning to form relationships with a woman she wonā€™t be made to kill... Sharon not fully trusting her at first but being able to see past her crimes and reputation... Yes šŸ˜Œ (Also Sharon telling Peggy about this annoyingly hot Black Widow, and Peggy DYING internally, because wow, some things are sure genetic. Like, for example, the weakness for these shady spy ladies sksksks)
Natasha/Yelena Belova (from comics) - the tension! the jealousy! the resent! the hatred! the sympathy! the understanding the way no one else could! the shared trauma! the growth! the affection! Queens <3 Who does it like them <3 <3 <3
Natasha/Nakia - again, havenā€™t seen much of a fandom, but the potential of jaded, bitter, and cagey postCivilWar!Natasha vs hopeful yet not naive and very loving Nakia is enormous. I just wanna read a slow burn of them on a long spy mission having philosophical debates about Truth, and Lies, and Purpose, and The Nature Of Humanity. Iā€™d read it even if itā€™s gen!
We need More Natasha in femslash, is what Iā€™m saying, and not just Natasha/Pepper as a background for stony (even though it is lovely)
Yennefer/Geralt (The Witcher) - because Yen Deserves Nice Things. I wasnā€™t awfully interested in Geralt for most of the show (they really should've introduced the tragic backstory earlier, it kinda hooked me), but he made her smile so sweetly šŸ’œšŸ’œšŸ’œ Also canā€™t believe that Iā€™ve finally fallen hard for a m/f ship thatā€™s supposed to be the endgame sksks
Nomi/Amanita (Sense8) - as my tag for them states, The Relationship Goals. The way they support each other unconditionally and make each other so happy is extremely heart-warming. Kudo to writers who knew how to write an established couple entertainingly without breaking them up.
Parker/Hardison/Eliot (Leverage) - whatā€™s to say what hasnā€™t been said before? Found Family soulmates, who Are Gay and Do Crime together
The Old Guard:
Andy/Nile - Very Hot. I havenā€™t yet found any PWPs, and I am Disappointed
Andy/Noriko (from the comic) - Iā€™m probably gonna write a bit more about them later in a post with highlights from the second mini-series, but Iā€™m just šŸ’”šŸ’”šŸ’” they šŸ’”šŸ’”šŸ’”
Andy/Quynh - the dungeon scene just broke me, okay, it broke me.
Andy/Achilles (her late boyfriend from the comic) - he šŸ˜– made her want to live again šŸ˜– but then šŸ˜–šŸ˜–šŸ˜– she had to leave him šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ 10/10 heartbreak, would recommend
(I love suffering in The Old Guard fandom, okay)
Phew, done! I thought about including my fave platonic ships, but this has gotten way too long already šŸ˜‚
Thank you so much for the ask, Giada, I had enormous fun! I love talking about fandom things that make me happy, it seems šŸ˜„

what a lion cannot manage chp 2
dadmight here we gooo!!!
Ao3 | chp 1 | chp 2 | chp 3 | chp 4
Izumiā€™s home is a small place. Not suffocating or anything, but the town is too nosy for its own good and word travels fast. When someone new comes to town, itā€™s not long before everyone is talking about it.
The whispers of a man renting out the old cottage at the edge of town piques Izumiā€™s interest.
No oneā€™s interacted with him much and he seems to keep to himself, but lack of information has never stopped the gossip mill from running before. Heā€™s kind and polite from what the shopkeepers have seen when he leaves his house for food. That and he is, apparently, absurdly tall.
Besides the mystery of it all, thereā€™s nothing really eye-catching about this particular rumour. Nonetheless, Izumi finds her ears pricking to attention every time heā€™s mentioned. Unbearably curious, despite herself.
***
For a while, the man seems like more of a ghost story than an actual person. Only showing up at the shops when theyā€™re least likely to be busy. Only walking through town when he must.
Then, out of nowhere, itā€™s as if he canā€™t bear to stay in his rented house for anything other than sleep.
***
Toshinori has always been restless. Always moving and fighting and becoming
And here, hidden away in this sleepy town with no villains to fight or people to save, with a wound in his side that aches with every breath, he feels as if itā€™s clawing at his very skin.
Heā€™s here to recover, far away from the action in Tokyo or Hosu or any place where he's actually needed so he wonā€™t be tempted.
The doctors recommended he take it easy for six months. Miraiā€”Nighteye, he should say nowā€”told him to retire.
As if that was ever actually an option.
Toshinori agreed to stay out of Heroing for two months, and thatā€™s only because of the combined efforts of Torino and Recovery Girl and David.
Heā€™s not even sure how David found out about it, what with him being on I-Island with Melissa (but Toshinori has a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with Nighteye). The trio were persuasive though, and Toshinori never stood a chance when David pulled his trump card: Melissaā€™s puppy dog eyes.
Itā€™s nice that they care and worry, but Toshinori isnā€™t made for sitting still.
Heā€™s restless and the phantom cries of victims heā€™s not there to save ring in his ears like bells as he tries to relax.
Finally, he decides enough. If he sits still for even a single second more heā€™s going to tear out of his own skin.
***
Heā€™s been in town for perhaps two weeks (twenty-nine days since he defeated him, twenty-five since heā€™d woken up in a hospital bed, twenty-four since he realized heā€™ll never be the same) and itā€™s not enough time for him to be walking around as much as he is but he canā€™t help it.
Heā€™s not staying cooped inside for two months.
Toshinori keeps to himself for the most part, stays on the outskirts of things like he normally does when he acts civilian.
Since the beginning of his career, heā€™s carefully kept Yagi Toshinori and All Might separate. Two different people as far as anyone outside a select few are aware. Heā€™s gone years as unrecognizable from All Might and while heā€™s not quite worried someone will recognize him, old habits die hard, he supposes.
Even now, when he looks like death warmed over, thereā€™s always a chance. He doesnā€™t normally stress about it so much, but heā€™d rather hide the fact that the number one Hero is hiding away in a tiny farming village along the coast. And that means not drawing attention to himself.
Heā€™s only partially successful.
***
The first time Izumi sees him, heā€™s walking through the park.
Sheā€™s walking on her hands across the balance beam because she and Kacchan started taking gymnastics. (Kacchan wanted to take a combat class but was shot down by his parents until they could trust him not to attack another child with his newfound fighting skills. So Izumi got to choose their activity instead.)
The man is hurt. Badly. The heavy tang of blood hangs off him like a coat even from all the way on the other side of the park and she almost falls off the balance beam with the force of it.
But, what almost seems worse is thatā€¦ underneath the smell of blood and pain and hurt, thereā€™s onlyā€¦ him.
No lingering scent of others, of people who should care for him. Just the cinnamon earth of his own scent drenched in blood and the stale smell of strangers. Even humans, people who donā€™t purposefully scent their family and friends, smell like each other just by the nature of being close.
Izumi canā€™t imagine being that lonely. Canā€™t imagine living in solitude like that, with so many people around her and yet none who are close enough to touch and-
And, well. Izumiā€™s known around town for sticking her nose in places it doesnā€™t quite belong. She figures this is just much of the same if you think about it.
***
There are few people Midoriya Izumi has met that she didnā€™t like and fewer still who didnā€™t like her in turn.
If asked, Izumi will say this is because she is very good at making friends.
If asked, Katsuki will say itā€™s because sheā€™s a goddamn freak.
(He wonā€™t say so, because heā€™s not quite that articulate, but what he means is that thereā€™s not a person dead or alive who can withstand the sheer strength of her will. Not a goddamn person on Kamiā€™s green earth who can be near her for longer than a few minutes without being irreversibly changed.
Itā€™s just a law of nature.
The sky is blue. The grass is green. Reality and the people within it bend to the desires of Midoriya Izumi.)
***
Toshinori has seen this girl running around town, normally with that loud boy at her side, but sometimes on her own. Heā€™s heard about her more.
Everyone he speaks to seems unable to keep themselves from bringing her into the conversation.
Sheā€™s the one who plays chess with the elderly at the park, and who climbs up trees for kittens and always seems to be the first to look for runaway dogs. She reads to the younger kids at the library and helps out with craft activities.
He knows so much, Toshinori feels as if heā€™s already met the girl.
He continues to think that all the way up until he actually meets her and realizes heā€™s barely scratched the surface.
***
Izumi is good at patterns. Her mind is a bright chaotic whirl of thoughts and ideas and information at all times and itā€™s laughably easy to put it all together and find repetitions and relations.
Figuring out when the lonely man is going to be passing through the park again is no different.
He sits on that same park bench again, practically collapsing down onto it. His breath is short and his heart is pounding with the exertion of just walking. Izumi briefly wonders what happened to him. Then, she wonders why heā€™s pushing himself so much because that seems more pressing a matter.
She skips up to him and the smell of blood and pain is enough to make her dizzy but Izumi is determined, okay?
ā€œHello!ā€ she greets brightly, hands clasped behind her back and smiling.
The lonely man startles. ā€œAh, hello?ā€
ā€œHello!ā€ she repeats, ā€œPeople call me Midoriya Izuku. Do you like checkers?ā€
ā€œUhā€¦ā€ The lonely man blinks, clearly taken aback. ā€œYes? Do you-?ā€
She hops a bit in place, excited. ā€œGreat! Come play with me!ā€ she reaches up to grab his hand and tugs him over to the stone tables set up for the games. Sheā€™s very careful about the amount of strength she uses in that action, just like Nona taught her to be.
Normal little girls shouldnā€™t be able to throw around things twice their weight.
The lonely man moves easily, probably because heā€™s surprised by the action. He follows her though and thatā€™s what matters.
Heā€™s confused and a bit awkward at first which Izumi thinks means he doesnā€™t spend a lot of time around kids. Maybe he doesnā€™t know what to talk about. What do adults talk about? Her skulk normally talks about magic and whatever new creature has decided to snoop around their forest, so that's out. And he doesnā€™t smell like heā€™s a farmer.
So there goes most of her reference points for this kind of thing.
Theyā€™re four moves in and she can tell heā€™s trying to ā€˜letā€™ her win. Her ears flick in annoyance and she sets herself up for a move that will wipe him out in seven turns without taking any of his easy captures.
Maybe he likes Heroes? Thatā€™s what Izumi normally defaults to and it works most of the time. Who doesnā€™t like Heroes?
ā€œWhoā€™s your favourite Hero?ā€ she asks, watching him move a checkers piece without even really thinking about it. Heā€™s not even trying.
ā€œOh, uh,ā€ he clears his throat. ā€œIā€™m not really sure. I donā€™tā€¦ donā€™t really keep up with them anymore.ā€
Izumi blinks and tilts her head. She doesn't miss the ā€˜anymoreā€™ part.
ā€œCome on. You had to have a favourite at some point,ā€ she insists. ā€œSomeone you looked up to and admired! And you canā€™t say All Might because, obviously. I mean, heā€™s my favorite but there are a bunch of other Heroes! Like Ectoplasm! Or Gang Orca! Or! Or! Thereā€™s even all those American Heroes? Like the Hulk! Or thereā€™s Spiderman. Heā€™s new but heā€™s super friendly from what people have seen! He goes around helping people even if itā€™s not villain related and just generally interacts a lot with everyone. Thereā€™s a lot about him on the American forums despite him being so concentrated on a small area. I would-ā€
Izumi stops, realizes sheā€™s been rambling about nothing again and blushes. ā€œSorry. I get excited.ā€
The lonely man is quiet for a second and then laughs. Itā€™s quiet and huffing and sounds a little like it hurts but it also sounds happy and that makes Izumi happy. She giggles too even though sheā€™s not quite sure what theyā€™re laughing at.
ā€œAll right,ā€ he gives, raising his hands in surrender. ā€œYouā€™ve convinced me. If I must choose, Iā€™d say I have aā€¦ fondness for Titania. Sheā€™s a little before your time but-ā€
ā€œOh! Titania the Strong? Or the Fairy Queen?ā€ she asks because sometimes Heroes have the same name.Ā  People reuse them or pay homage to someone they liked or carry on a legacy. Thereā€™s been an active Dread Pirate Roberts ever since the second generation of Heroes.
She tries to think if there are any other Titanias. Ones who stopped Heroing before she was born. She canā€™t think of any, but back when quirks first popped up and people started calling themselves Heroes they werenā€™t all that good at documenting them.
Theyā€™ve only just started to get better at that.
The lonely man stares at her in surprise and oh. Right. He doesnā€™t know.
Most people in town do, but heā€™s new. He doesnā€™t know of her fascination with Heroes or how her memory is near eidetic. The knowledge bank in her mind is massive and a large part is dedicated to Heroes (to their quirks, to the power they wield, to the ways they use them because itā€™s always best to have plenty of tricks up your sleeves).
ā€œā€¦The Strong. Young Midoriya, how do you-?ā€
ā€œI like Heroes,ā€ she says before starting to rattle off what she knows about the Hero. ā€œTitiana wasnā€™t very well known outside her prefecture but those in it were said to love her. She saved a lot of people and interacted with civilians regularly on patrol. Personable and kind. If she didnā€™t confine herself to such a small area itā€™s likely she wouldā€™ve become quite popular even without a flashy quirk.ā€ Izumi pauses, ā€œShe reminds me of my mom, actually. Only funnier. They say Titania liked to make jokes.ā€
The lonely man is quiet for a long moment as he moves another of his pieces into a position that makes him easy pickings. Izumi ignores it as she takes her turn.
He clears his throat, then, ā€œShe did.ā€
Izumi snaps up to look at him so quickly her neck cracks. Her eyes are wide and amazed as she looks at the lonely man. ā€œYou met her? Thatā€™s so cool!ā€
His lips quirk at the corners. ā€œI did. She wasā€¦ā€ he clears his throat again and itā€™s then that Izumi notices he smellsā€¦ sad. Thatā€™s not what she wanted! ā€œShe was one of the best women Iā€™ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.ā€
ā€œOh.ā€
Izumi feels bad now. She didnā€™t mean to make him sad. And he sounds like, like he misses her. Izumiā€™s heart breaks, just a little bit and she hops down from her chair to stand in front of him.
Did he used to smell like her? Is she why he stopped getting close to people? Did he lose her?
Izumiā€™s mind spins and spins and spins. She doesnā€™t know. Too many variables. She needs more data.
But not now.
ā€œIā€™m sorry. I didnā€™t mean to make you sad,ā€ she says. ā€œWhen I feel sad, I get hugs and it makes me feel better. But some people donā€™t like hugs so Mom says Iā€™m supposed to ask first. And, and youā€™re sad and I think you need a hug so do you want a hug?ā€
ā€œI- I donā€™t-ā€ the lonely man looks flustered now. Wrong-footed. Izumi tries to smile at him reassuringly.
ā€œMom says I give the best hugs!ā€ she encourages. ā€œSo Iā€™m sure youā€™ll feel better.ā€
After a long moment, the lonely man softens. ā€œWell I- I suppose a hug wouldnā€™t hurt.ā€
ā€œGreat!ā€
She has to stop herself from launching at him, wary of how heā€™s still hurt and smells of blood. Sheā€™s not quite sure where it is but sheā€™s very careful of where she puts her hands and is careful not to squeeze too tightly.
After a few seconds Izumi asks, ā€œDo you feel better now?ā€
ā€œYes,ā€ he answers, like heā€™s surprised by their truth. ā€œYes, I do. Thank you.ā€
She nods, satisfied. ā€œGood.ā€ Then, she turns and barely looks at the board before clicking her piece in a series of jumps that takes out half his side and leaves her at his home base. ā€œQueen me, please!ā€
The lonely man blinks, opens his mouth, closes it, opens it again and laughs. Then, he does as she asked.
***
They play four more games after that with the lonely man actually trying after his sound beating in the first round. Izumi even lets him win the third one.
They talk about random things, Izumi driving most of the conversation by bouncing around random topics and babbling aimlessly. The lonely man doesn't seem to mind too much, and comments on things whenever she pauses long enough for him to get a word in edgewise.
By the time Izumi has to go home for dinner, the lonely man doesnā€™t smell as sad and Izumi finds she really likes him. He even ruffles her hair before she goes scampering off into the woods. He flattens one of her ears unintentionally but she can forgive that. He canā€™t see them after all.
Heā€™s also familiar in a way. Almost like Kacchan was familiar, but just a bit different. Sheā€™s not quite sure what it is, but heā€™s nice and friendly and Izumi likes him.
ā€œDid you have a good day, sweetie?ā€ Mom asks her when she gets back home.
Izumi smiles up at her with all her teeth and says, ā€œYeah! I made a new friend!ā€
***
Her lonely man introduces himself the second time she finds him.
He calls himself Yagi Toshinori but his name tastes strange on her tongue. Not quite a lie, but not a truth either.
Yagi Toshinori may be his birth name, but it is no longer the name that holds power over him, at least not completely.
Izumi calls him Yagi-san and wonders what he called himself for so long that it changed his very being.
***
Itā€™s somewhere around week two when Yagi-san first coughs up blood around her. He was laughing, a sound she takes such joy in creating, when he suddenly began coughing. A second later, the smell of fresh blood, thick and heady, filled that air and Izumi nearly had a conniption.
Theyā€™re in the park and her worried exclamations and mother henning draw the attention of most, if not every, parent in the vicinity.
Theyā€™re all rightfully worried and it takes a while before everyoneā€™s calmed down enough for him to give some story about a swollen throat and how itā€™s already being taken care of.
Heā€™s lying about it, Izumi knows, but heā€™s uncomfortable and concerningly red from embarrassment.
She lets him get away with it this once.
The parents give him wet wipes and napkins and well wishes that he gets better soon to his utter surprise. Like he hadnā€™t expected to be given kindness so freely.
Izumi smiles as she waves them all away, thanking them for helping and thinking, not for the first time, how much she loves her town.
***
She goes home smelling like human blood that day.
It takes almost half an hour for Izumi to calm everybody down enough to explain what happened without worrying them more. And even after that, all her cousins (all at least a decade older than her and all starkly human thanks to the curse everyone will only mention in passing) crowd around her and fuss for hours.
She manages it with only resigned exasperation because they did the same thing when she killed the kelpies causing havoc in the lake last month. (She isnā€™t sure what the big deal was then and sheā€™s less sure now. Killing supernatural threats is basically herā€” the skulkā€™sā€” job.)
***
She spends six hours that night researching diagnoses where patients coughing up blood is a symptom, and as a result, completely ignores her homework.
She doesnā€™t like a single word she reads.
(Kacchan yells at her the next day about it but they're both weeks ahead of the rest of their class. Heā€™s really only upset because he canā€™t compare their answers for the physics homework.)
***
Itā€™s a badly kept secret in the skulk that Izumi will be the next Matriarch.
It doesnā€™t matter that sheā€™s the youngest or that sheā€™s hardly fox-like at all. Because thatā€™s not how skulks work. Theyā€™re not human royalty and it is not about lineage.
Foxes are selfish creatures.
They arenā€™t quite known for their loyalty, not when there are wolves of legend who will beat themselves bloody for their packmates. That doesnā€™t mean foxes arenā€™t loyal, it just means theyā€™re craftier about it. Sneakier and cleverer than their brutish cousins.
(Secrets are more easily kept when fewer people know of them. Loved ones are safer if no one knows to go after them.)
Skulks are just as close and beloved as packs, and the one who reigns at the head of a skulk is not there on power alone, not like the wolvesā€™ alphas.
A skulkā€™s head is chosen, not fought for. And Izumi has been marked thrice over, by Magic and Fate and her own choices as she grows from girl to woman. Izumi has the will of a leader, the heart of a mother and the ability to inspire all she meets.
Midoriya Izumi will one day rule the skulk, the forests, the whole of Japan.
There is no one else it could be.
***
Days turn to weeks and Izumi keeps tracking Yagi-san down whenever she can. Sometimes they sit and just people watch and other times she demands he play games with her, something that makes him sit down and relax because while she doesnā€™t know specifics, itā€™s obvious heā€™s badly hurt.
All those books sheā€™d scoured say the same thing: that he should be taking it easy. Something he is not doing himself so she does it for him.
Heā€™s also been getting thinner since she met him. Cheeks growing gaunt and limbs becoming bony, like heā€™s losing muscle mass. Izumi, once she notices, starts bringing him snacks whenever she can. Random things at first that he turns down half the time to her disappointment and frustration.
It must show on her face one too many times because after a while, he sits her down on their bench and explains in fits and starts about his condition.Ā
Yagi-san was badly injured and lost his stomach. He canā€™t eat like he used to and isnā€™t really hungry anymore. His lungs are damaged, which is why he coughs up blood and canā€™t breathe right.
He tells her a laundry list of trauma and Izumi listens but canā€™t quite help the horrified look on her face; sheā€™s still too young to have learned to school her expressions.
ā€œThatā€™sā€¦ thatā€™s awful,ā€ she whispers, eyes trained on the part of his abdomen he kept gesturing to, the place of such horrific pain.
ā€œItā€™s okay,ā€ he reassures her and her eyes flick up to meet his. Heā€™s smiling, something warm and wide and so familiar but canā€™t quite place. ā€œIā€™m a tough one, my girl. Iā€™ll be alright.ā€Ā
Izumi presses her lips together and lets him change the subject. But while he speaks, her mind is a whirl of plans and ideas and things she needs to do.
***
Her mom ā€˜accidentallyā€™ runs into Yagi-san at the market one day.
(Things like that are never accidental for a fox, nevermind that her momā€™s as human as Kacchan. She was born in a skulk and that makes her other in a way normal humans arenā€™t).
Yagi-san sees her first and his face lights up, ā€œLittle Izumi!ā€ he greets.
She waves at him, head tilted back almost all the way as she grins up at him. ā€œHi Yagi-san!ā€ she yells because heā€™s so tall. It must be hard to hear her, especially with his human ears. Those miss everything interesting.
His eyes turn onto her mom and he gets very red suddenly. Embarrassed and shy, like he was when she first met him. ā€œAh, apologies,ā€ his hand rubs the back of his head, ā€œYou must be her mother.ā€
Mom smiles, but her eyes are studying him, flicking over his form, quick and analytical.
ā€œI am, people call me Midoriya Inko,ā€ her mom offers her hand. He shakes it. ā€œYou must be Yagi-san. Itā€™s nice to finally meet the man behind the legend. Izumi talks about you a lot.ā€
Yagi-san looks delighted at that. ā€œDoes she?ā€
ā€œOh, yes. It feels like I already know you with how much she goes on,ā€ she tells him then turns to Izumi. ā€œAnd youā€™re right, sweetheart. He really is too thin.ā€
ā€œRight!ā€ Izumi exclaims, causing Yagi-san to startle. ā€œThatā€™s why I needed all those bentos! He doesnā€™t like to eat on his own, so I have to make him.ā€
After heā€™d told her about his injuries, sheā€™d very carefully read and researched what one should do after a gastrectomy like his and came away with a thousand and one rules for eating he most definitely wasĀ  not following.
It made her more than a bit upset that heā€™s not taking care of himself like he should be. That he acts so cavalier with his health.
Her mom nods gravely, very serious. ā€œOf course. Itā€™s important to stay healthy.ā€
ā€œSee!ā€ Izumi spins on Yagi-san who looks frozen in mortification, ā€œEven Mom agrees and sheā€™s always right.ā€
His eyes flick between them both for a long moment before his shoulders slump and he grins, small and wry at them both. ā€œWell if two Midoriya women are telling me that, how can I hope to argue?ā€
Izumi grins with all her teeth because sheā€™s won and you canā€™t spend excessive time around Kacchan without picking up some habits.
Mom and Yagi-san talk for a while longer, mostly probing questions from her mom disguised as boring grown-up stuff and small talk. Yagi-san answers them all correctly as far as Izumi can tell. He doesnā€™t lie once which is good because even if Mom canā€™t hear his heartbeat she knows how to tell when someone lies.
They leave that day with Momā€™s stamp of approval and a skip in Izumiā€™s step.
***
Mom must have given some sort of signal because now Yagi-san can barely walk out of his house without being accosted by her skulk.
It must be really confusing on his end, all these random people coming up to him suddenly. Not all of them even look like Midoriyas because the townspeople still think thereā€™s only half as many of them as there really are and they want to keep it that way.
They all come away liking him though, some enough to continue interacting with him regularly. Which is good, because he needs more friends. Though, Aunties Emi and Isami tease him so much sheā€™s not sure heā€™ll ever stop being flustered.
(The best part though, in Izumiā€™s opinion, is that they all help her keep an eye on him. And, more often than not, theyā€™ll place some sort of fruit or snack in his hands before running off and leaving him in confusion. Izumi laughs whenever sheā€™s there for it to his utter confusion.)
***
Aoi plops down next to her on the couch one day, arm thrown over her shoulders and bright pink pixie cut hair tickling her cheek as she bumps her head into Izumiā€™s temple and hums lowly because itā€™s the closest her human vocal cords can get to purring.
Izumiā€™s classifying plant life for biology, something she normally doesnā€™t stop doing until itā€™s finished, but she looks away from them now because Aoiā€™s her favourite cousin. Sheā€™s never said so out loud because she'd rather die than hurt anyone's feelings, but the entire skulk knows anyway.
ā€œHeā€™s weird like you,ā€ Aoi says with no lead-up or explanation.
Izumi grins as Aoi ruffles her hair because she understands immediately and takes that for the compliment it is.
***
Yagi-san touches her casually now. Ruffling her hair, guiding her with a hand on the shoulder, tugging lightly on her wild curls. Itā€™s like he was waiting for permission or something.
Itā€™s nothing sheā€™s not familiar with. Her skulk does it all the time, both to scent mark and provide comfort, and Izumi spends most of her time invading Kacchanā€™s personal bubble for those same reasons.
Yagi doesnā€™t know about scent marking like she does because heā€™s human, wholy and cleanly even if Izumi can sometimes feel a nuclear reactor humming with all the energy hidden away in his chest. (And isnā€™t that just another reason heā€™s so strange? Izumi wonders what his quirk is sometimes, but never asks. She doesn't think sheā€™d get the real answer if she did.)
He doesnā€™t know, and doesnā€™t seem like an overly touchy person but he touches her and it feels like when her mom pushes her bangs back and presses a kiss to her forehead. Affectionate and soft and Izumi canā€™t help leaning into every gesture like sheā€™s starved for it.
***
The next day, Izumi greets him with a hug and he smiles that oh, so familiar smile and Izumi feels like she swallowed the sun.
***
The townspeople whisper, carefully outside of Izumiā€™s range of hearing for once, about the man she follows like a duckling and the growing bond everyone can see.
They were wary at first. They knew so little about this odd stranger.
But with Izumi running around him like a tiny, babbling dervish, unintentionally dragging him into every conversation she starts, it doesnā€™t take long for them to get a read on the man. Itā€™s almost amusing how he had tried so hard to keep to himself only to fail the moment she crashed into his life.
A month and a half after he showed up, the townspeople can confidently say that Yagi Toshinori is good people. Earnest and kind in all the same ways Izumi is and uniquely awkward and well-meaning in others.
The townspeople whisper, and laugh, and canā€™t help but think how good it is that little Izumiā€™s found herself such a lovely father figure.
***
He asks her, one day, why she spends so much time with him when she has so many friends her own age.
The look she gives him makes him feel like heā€™s asked a stupid question. The words that come out of her mouth immediately after make him breathless.
ā€œBecause I like you,ā€ she says as if itā€™s just that simple. As if Toshinori hadnā€™t spent decades interacting with people who only liked him because heā€™s All Might. As if this little girl, hidden away in this idyllic town, saying she likes him as Toshinori, isnā€™t the most important thing heā€™s heard in years.
ā€œAh,ā€ is all he says to that and Izumi goes back to eating her popsicle, only now sheā€™s unashamedly leaning into his uninjured side.
Something warm in his chest blossoms and Toshinori canā€™t help wondering what exactly heā€™s gotten himself into now.
***
She brings Kacchan to meet Yagi-san not long after that. Sheā€™d been waiting for her skulk to stop harassing him so much, so it had taken longer than she wanted.
Kacchan was starting to think sheā€™s purposefully keeping things from himā€”which she is, but not this. And the things she is keeping are mostly not her secrets to tell anyway (not that it makes her feel any less bad for having them).
The two know of each other, of course. Itā€™d be impossible for them not to know with how much she babbles at them both about the other.
Kacchan isā€¦ unimpressed at first. Loud and disrespectful and really just himself in a bad mood because heā€™s bad at meeting new people.
Yagi-san takes it all in stride even as her best friend swears enough to make a sailor blush. She can see heā€™s wondering why Izumi picked him, of course, because everyone does after meeting Katsuki.
She watches from where sheā€™s lying along the top of the monkey bars as they circle around each other, curious and trying not to show it. That is, until Kacchan grows bored with that and starts challenging Izumi to ridiculous contests.
She sighs but accepts every one because, while Kacchan is indeed the self-destructively competitive one, he doesn't hold a monopoly on that trait within their friendship.
Yagi-san gets roped into playing referee and rewards the winner with head ruffles and blinding smiles. Well, he at least tries to. Izumi accepts the affection just fine but when he reaches for Katsuki, her best friend snaps his teeth at him the moment contact is made.
Yagi-san pulls back immediately, eyes wide, but Kacchan hadnā€™t screamed at the top of his lungs or exploded something so Izumi knows itā€™s all mostly for show.
She'll have to explain that to Yagi-san later.

Thereā€™s a saying, in Izumiā€™s family. A saying that falls from the lips of every fox in the world. A silent oath one whispers from the day theyā€™re born with magic in their veins.
Shual Nephesh, serve thou for thyself.
Thereā€™s a duty every leader picks up when they are placed in power, but it is only foxes who truly carry its weight with them. A shimmering gem tied tightly around their throat, both great honour and deadly noose combined.
Matriarch, be thou for the skulk.
Thereā€™s no oath for a Hero to take. Nothing regulated or standardized besides the flimsy laws riddled with loopholes and flaws that Izumi could dance around with her eyes closed. So, she makes her own.
Hero, be thou for the people.
***
There is no new weight to her wrist, no new gemstone to tell of her Promise.
The shackle she wears like a badge of honor has been there for years already after all.

Two months come and go and Toshinoriā€¦ stays.
Torino and David both called the day before he was planning to go back to Tokyo, to go back to being All Might, and they begged him to stay just a bit longer. Well, David begged. Torino yelled at him for ten minutes until Toshinori could get a word in edgewise.
After a long pause, Toshinori agrees, to all their surprise.
He wasnā€™t going to leave, even before they called to beg and he knows what the reason why is, even if he wonā€™t admit it.
Heā€™ll have to leave eventually. Sooner then he might like because he canā€™t just stop being All Mightā€¦ but he can stay a little longer.
The world hasnā€™t fallen apart without him yet.
***
He does call into his agency, of course, and requests as much paperwork as possible be faxed to him.
Heā€™s still restless and antsy and even if heā€™s not in the field there is plenty of administrative work that needs to be done as All Might. Heā€™s been ignoring it for too long.
Rika, his manager of all things relating to All Mightā€™s image, is no doubt having a fit about his abrupt and continued absence, but he can trust her. Sheā€™s no doubt handling the media circus with an iron fist and cunning mind like always.Ā
She doesnā€™t let him touch his social media accounts or anything really relating to PR, but she does send him a list of charities to choose from. Heā€™s always like picking which ones to send donations to and make scheduled appearances at.
She also sends him a veritable mountain of things that need his signature, half of which are for merchandising and things like that.
He signs them all without looking.
Heā€™s also faxed the backlog of Assistant Heroesā€”not ā€˜Sidekicksā€™, there were few words he disliked more than that old relicā€”applications that have piled up in his absence to sort through. Even with the rigorous standards themselves and what few Heroes All Might does have at his agency sorting through the applications before they ever arrive in front of him, there are still dozens that have piled up.
People who work with him have to uphold certain standards. That's something both him and Rika agree on. They canā€™t have some Hero with a lousy attitude associated with All Might. The press would have a field day with that kind of scandal and Toshinori canā€™t stand those types of people anyway.
The employees at his agency are held to a higher standard than others. Itā€™s why itā€™s so prestigious in the first place. His Heroes have to be brave and kind and put the people first above all else.
They may not ever be pillars like him, but Toshinori will be damned if they arenā€™t beacons of good.
Toshinori is, was, and always will be, firm on this stance.Ā
He, of course, has to hide all that paperwork from Izumiā€”because thatā€™s a thing she does now. Knock on his door and spends time at the cottage heā€™s renting. She does her homework at the kitchen counter while he keeps himself busy doing the less flashy sort of Hero work.
The problem is, she's a curious sort of child, and interested in most everything her eyes land on. Sheā€™s made a habit of poking her head over his shoulder while heā€™s sorting through sensitive documents, keen eyes dancing over the page, and scaring the shit out of Toshinori.
She stares at him with those all too knowing eyes as he scrambles to hide it from her. After the third time it happens she thankfully stops but thereā€™s a contemplative look in her eyes thatā€™s sure to give him stress headaches.
***
ā€œWhat do you think heā€™s doing?ā€
Kacchan doesnā€™t look up from the math homework heā€™s checking for her. He also doesnā€™t ask who sheā€™s talking about because thereā€™s really only one person it could be. ā€œKicking ass, probably.ā€
ā€œKacchan,ā€ she pouts from her place sprawled across his living room floor (they never hang out at her house, for all the obvious reasons). ā€œBe serious.ā€
ā€œI seriously think heā€™s kicking ass.ā€
ā€œArenā€™t you worried?ā€
Kacchan looks up to glare at her. ā€œWhy the fuck would I be? Izu, itā€™s All Might. He never loses. Heā€™s fine, you goddamn bleeding heart.ā€
Izumi guesses heā€™s right. All Mightā€™s never lost a fight. Itā€™s what makes him so amazing. Itā€™s just. Thereā€™s something at the base of her stomach that wonā€™t let her let go of her worry. Itā€™s been three monthsĀ  without a single sighting.
Thatā€™sā€¦ unheard of.
ā€œStop moping!ā€ he yells, the sugar-burnt crackle and pop of his quirk jolting her from her melancholy.
ā€œCareful, Kacchan!ā€ she shrieks. ā€œYouā€™re going to burn the paper.ā€
Kacchan snaps his teeth at her but thereā€™s no real heat in it. Itā€™s playful, or as close to it as he gets. ā€œI am not! And stop slacking and check my fucking history worksheet, you freeloader.ā€
She sighs and flips back onto her stomach. ā€œYes, Kacchan. Of course, Kacchan. Anything for you, Kacchan,ā€ she gripes fondly.
ā€œAnd donā€™t you fucking forget it.ā€
***
ā€œYoung Midoriya?ā€
ā€œHuh?ā€ Izumi startles from her thoughts for the third time this game. Realizing what sheā€™s done, she blushes and hides behind her hand of cards. ā€œOh! Sorry, Yagi-san. I canā€™t seem to focus at all today.ā€
He smiles, warm and bright. ā€œNot a problem, my dear.ā€ He sets down his hand, choosing instead to give her his full attention. ā€œSomething on your mind?ā€
ā€œYeah. Justā€¦ Iā€™m worried, I suppose.ā€
He hums encouragingly. ā€œAbout?ā€
She blows out a heavy breath. ā€œItā€™s been three months since anybody has seen All Might.ā€ Yagi-sanā€™s shoulders stiffen. Talking about All Might always makes him uncomfortable but she needs to get this off her chest and heā€™ll listen. ā€œHeā€™s never disappeared like this before.ā€
Yagi-san coughs into his fist. ā€œAh, well. Perhaps he is doing undercover work?ā€
Izumi gives him a look like she thinks heā€™s being particularly thick. ā€œHe almost never does undercover work. Heā€™s not suited for it and thereā€™s plenty of underground Heroes who can do a better job. He normally respects that.ā€ She pauses, thinks that over. ā€œAnd even the few times he was recorded to be associated with undercover jobs, there had been plenty of credible sources saying heā€™d been seen doing small acts of heroics. Community service, charity work, helping people cross the street, things like that. But, right now, itā€™s practically radio silence. All Mightā€™s never just,ā€ she waves her hands helplessly, ā€œcut himself off from the public before.ā€
Yagi-san blinks at her and, when there doesnā€™t seem to be an answer to that forthcoming, Izumi keeps going.
ā€œI just- I canā€™t stop thinking maybe heā€™s hurt? Or that something has happened to him? Kacchan says Iā€˜m worrying over nothing but sometimes I just get these feelings, right? Like thereā€™s someone out there who needs my help andā€¦ and this is one of those times.ā€ She huffs a humourless laugh. ā€œBut again, Kacchan says Iā€™m being dumb because why would All Might need my help? Iā€™m ten! What can I do?
ā€œBut I just keep thinking how Sir Nighteye is still in Tokyo and hasnā€™t said anything official about his whereabouts and David Shield is still in America and thereā€™s just nobody else that All Might has to lean on, at least not to public knowledge, and if those two people arenā€™t there for him then who is?ā€
By the end, Izumi has to take a deep breath because she hadnā€™t breathed once while she word-vomited all her worries at him.
When she looks up, Yagi-san is staring at her with an expression she canā€™t really read.
Quieter, she saysā€”because sheā€™s never been able to leave well enough alone and if Yagi-san doesnā€™t understand then who will?ā€” ā€œHe saves everyone, but whoā€™s there to save him?ā€
Yagi-san laughs.
Not a mean one, not like heā€™s laughing at her, but more like he was so surprised by her that he canā€™t contain the sound. Uncle Kazuki did that sometimes. Probably because Uncle Hikaru is more than a handful and he made the mistake of marrying him, or so they say.
ā€œYou truly are one of a kind, my girl. Iā€™ve never, in all my years, met someone with a heart as big as yours.ā€
Izumi blushes to the tips of her hidden ears at such a high compliment and picks up her cards just to hide behind them. ā€œI think we should finish our game.ā€
He gives a quiet chuckle but picks up his cards. ā€œOkay, okay. But, for the record, my dear?ā€ Izumi looks up at him and finds him smiling at her, small and soft. ā€œI think thereā€™s a lot you could do to help him.ā€
***
He watches Izumi and Young Bakugou run around each other, playing some strange amalgamation of tag and marco-polo where Izumiā€™s blind folded and only allowed to use her hearing and sense of smell to sniff out her friend.
Itā€™s quirk training made into a game, something ingenious only she could come up with.
Izumi is doing well at locating Bakugou, head swiveling in whatever direction heā€™s in despite the blind fold, but she keeps tripping over and running into things, paying too much attention to her friend and not enough to her surroundings.
She does eventually catch him, pouncing on his back and sending both of them to the ground. Toshinori smiles despite himself as it immediately transitions into a wrestling match.
Not for the first time since coming to this fantasy of a town, does Toshinori think wistfully of a world where things were different. If he didnā€™t need to hold up the world, if people were kinder, if the world was safer. If, if, if.
Toshinori wanted a family once, before he picked up all these mountains he shouldā€™ve climbed. He still wants a familyā€”doesnā€™t think heā€™ll ever stopā€”but heā€™s practical enough to know itā€™s too late. To see itā€™ll never work out.
(He ignores the part of him that says itā€™s closer than he thinks. Ignores the way any thoughts of his futureā€”the ones where he forgets heā€™s going to die in eight years at leastā€”all have a child in them. A little girl with wild green hair and freckles and a heart big enough to cradle the world.
His mind ignores them, but his heart is soft and weak and tucks it all in his chest, safe and sound for those rainy days.)
***
Time skips along, as itā€™s wont to do.
Izumi dances into eleven years old with all the joy and brightness of a girl on top of the world.
Her magic grows more with each day and after the fourth time she comes home dragging some sort of creature behind her, the skulk starts whispering about having her begin training before the traditional fourteen years old.
She joins aikido at the suggestion of Yagi-san while Kacchan gleefully dives into kick-boxing after hounding his parents for three months. Izumi keeps up with gymnastics but Kacchan drops out to join the wrestling team.
Itā€™s all vaguely concerning from an outsiderā€™s point of view but itā€™s nice that he has an outlet.
For all that sheā€™s growing up, Izumi is still much of the same. Still sticking her nose where it doesnā€™t belong and dedicating most of her time to helping other people, no matter how important the task, and staying at the top of her classes with Katsuki right next to her.
What little free time she allows herself is divided between all the people she loves. Sheā€™s busy, but sheā€™s always been busy. Always right at the thick of things when they happen which is just how she likes it.
Itā€™s the best three months of her life, a bright summer she enjoyed to the fullest. Her magic has been practically singing in her veins because, until she becomes a Hero, until she takes her rightful place at the top, as a Protector, this is as close to perfect as sheā€™ll get.
That, of course, means it canā€™t last.
Because perfect things never do.
***
Yagi-san leaves, because he has too.
Sheā€™d known that for a while now. His job is important, even if sheā€™s not quite sure what it is he does.
He always dances around the question when she asks. Saying he works in relation to an important agency that helps keep people safe. Heā€™s always adamant of how much he loves it and she can see the wistfulness in his eyes sometimes. Like thereā€™s places he wants to be other than here.
And so, Izumi resigns herself to watching him leave her. Braces herself to lose this growing, fragile thing in her chest she canā€™t put a name to.
He leaves the week after her birthday and sheā€™s there at his house to say goodbye. She expects this to be the last time she sees him, she expects him to leave and not come back just like the father she never met and doesnā€™t want to.
What she doesnā€™t expect is for him to press a phone into her hand, a single number already programmed into it, and tell her heā€™ll keep in touch. She doesnā€™t expect him to get on his knees so she can look him in the eye as he Promises to visit, to come back, whenever he can.
She tries hard not to cry, because her lonely man gets so flustered when she does, but she canā€™t help it. She sobs and throws her arms around his shoulders, clinging to him because even with the Promise she knows it will be too long before she sees him again.
She has so many things she wants to tell him. So many things to say and do and none of the time.
His lips press against her forehead. ā€œIā€™ll miss you, my dear girl.ā€
But, perhaps sheā€™ll still get the chance. Justā€¦ later.
ā€œIā€™ll miss you, too.ā€
***
Kacchan, Aoi, and her mom all gang up on her the following days, trying their hardest to cheer her up and get her mind off things.
Her mom makes her favorite foods and Aoi teaches her magic tricks sheā€™s not supposed to learn until Nona officially begins her training and Kacchan only grumbles a little when she takes to clinging to him like a heartsick koala.
Itā€™s the last one more than anything that makes her realize how worried they must be. How badly she must be moping for them to be so worried.
Kacchan may not actually care about how much sheā€™s in his bubble, but he does like to complain about it, loudly and vocally. Heā€™s really very mean and if Izumi couldnā€™t always tell when heā€™s lying sheā€™s sure sheā€™d never made it to being his best friend because sheā€™d be crying too much.
But sheā€™s worrying everyone and itā€™s not like she canā€™t text or call Yagi-san. He gave her the phone for a reason (though a whole new phone seems a bit much).
Izumi tries not to be so sad.
It only works a little.
***
Two days after Yagi-san leaves town, All Might saves thirty people from a hostage situation, rescues two potential kidnap victims and stops three robberies all before two in the afternoon.
Izumi sees the news articles almost immediately because even if sheā€™s sad and breaks into tears every couple hours, sheā€™s been keeping her ear to the ground about any sign of All Might for weeks now. Thereā€™s pictures and videos and stories of his escapades everywhere and all anyone is talking about is where heā€™s been.
Izumi finds a video of him, barely thirty seconds long, of him apologizing for his absence. Some official story thatā€™s nothing but lies falling from his tongue because it had taken Izumi all of five seconds of hearing his voice before everything clicked.
Izumi is smart and clever and sees things no one else does and she canā€™t believe sheā€™d been so blind.
All Mightā€™s face smiles at her through the screen but Izumi canā€™t hear what heā€™s saying because all she can see are bright blue eyes. Bright, familiar eyes and a familiar smile and familiar laugh and and and-
And her lonely man is the number one Hero.
She closes her laptop and screams.

Now that every episode of S3 has aired, Iā€™m going to be watching Heart Hunter/Loveater and Miracle Queen. And so, I present to you, my thoughts on Battle of The Miraculous:
Ahem,
I WAS LITERALLY IN THE PROCESS OF WRITING MY THOUGHTS ON HEART HUNTER BUT MY LAPTOP SHUT DOWN AND DECIDED TO UPDATE
Which was super annoying, cause I was halfway through the episode. But Iā€™ve managed to remember most of it
Anyway, that was annoying, but I still remember what I wrote:
- Marinette narrating in the beginning about loss, was honestly a big oof, since I know what happens in these two episodes
- Ugh, Cat was being petty about making LB jealous for sure
- Luka and LUKANETTE WAS SO CUTE Iā€™M-- I love him so much, and I love them. Theyā€™re the light of my life right now. (also when he finishes Marinetteā€™s melody, itā€™s totally going to be the theme of the show) THE BIKE RIDING AND CHEEK KISS WAS CUTE TOO
- Heart Hunterā€™s design is bad (Gabriel also totally gave them that cloak so theyā€™d get pissed at each other)
- Adrigaminette rights!!!
- Adrien has a crush on both Ladybug, Kagami and Marinette, change my mind (He was smitten when he saw her with her hair out, like seriously) Rip to him scrolling through LBā€™s photos too, I felt bad but I had to laugh
- Kagami watching Adrien play piano is the softest shit, I died (Kagami and Adrigami in general is great in this episode)
- Also I freaked out when Adrien was grabbing Mariā€™s hand, and just hers. Like boy stop denying your feelings.
- Andre didnā€™t say poly rights but he did say Kagaminette rights
And now, back to where I left off in the episode:
- MARIā€™S GETTING SAD ABOUT THEM-
- ooof now things be getting intense, Hawkmothā€™s figured out that she goes to Fu whenever sheā€™s stuck
- RIP she saw Adrigami in action
- uh oh... she didnā€™t de-transform
- NO donā€™t choose Kagami, ffs this is like what happened in Desperada, donā€™t let your personal agenda interfere!
- Okay but Hawkmoth standing in front of the merry-go-round window is kinda funny
- POCKY GAME ADRIGAMI- oh never mind itā€™s just a kiss anyway
- Ladybug just straight up kidnapped her. Anyway we got some Ladygami/Kagamibug because she was carrying her :3
- I like how Mari was actually making her voice a little deeper to conceal herself... Iā€™ve noticed that she does that in this season more often (her voice does change slightly when sheā€™s LB, but not like what she used to sound like in S1)
- ARE WE GETTING A RYUUKO TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE OR WHAT? Like, a full one. PLEASE.
- NOOO we didnā€™t get one aghh
- YES BITCH, Jade Turtle letā€™s goo
- I am actually really enjoying this battleĀ
- Lmaoo Ladybug called out Catā€™s flirting with RyuukoĀ
- HOW DID CHLOE THROW THE HOW SPOTLIGHT AWAY
- Oh my jesus Hawkmoth and Chloe talking I CANā€™T
- NOO POOR POLLEN
- Yeah Iā€™m real worried about Fuā€™s whereabouts now
- OOF ADRIGAMI KISS. lmaoo Andre just staring at them
- oh shit. OH SHIT HERE IT COMES. LUKANETTE. I REPEAT LUKANETTE
- AHHHHH TEARS, IN MY EYES.Ā
- Mari crying is the worst BUT LUKA BEING SUPPORTIVE IS SO GOOD
...
Okay, now, after that, letā€™s finally move into the last episode: Miracle Queen.
- Oh my gosh, seeing everyone getting stung (families like Alyaā€™s and Maxā€™s especially) and Marinette narrating over it again... This shit is hurting
- AGh Luka saving her, I canā€™t do this
- Iā€™m glad she thought to use Aqua Tikki. Anyway- OH. OH SHIT ADRIENā€™S REJECTING KAGAMI?
- Well, ok, not really, but still...
- AH she saved him
- ANDRE WAS WATCHING THE ENTIRE TIME, EVEN WHEN HE TRANSFORMEDĀ
- Seeing everyone being mind controlled is a bit worrying
- nNONONO MIRACLE QUEEN WANTS MIRACULOUS HOLDERS TO COME TO HER. NOW NO ONEā€™S GOING TO BE ABLE TO TRANSFORM AGAIN AFTER THIS
- SHE GRABBED ALYAā€™S GLASSES AND SMASHED THEM TF
- ahaha the first one who didnā€™t have glasses was Kim (ā€I thought that was a requirementā€) oml that was actually funny
- SAY ANYTHING ABOUT LUKA AGAIN AND Iā€™LL WHOOP YOUR ASS
- The Kwamiā€™s arenā€™t going to do or say anything seeing them brainwashed??
- ew more Gabenath. THEIR BODIES ARE WAY TOO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER-
-Ā  Noo sheā€™s upset again ;-;
- OKAY THE LADYNOIR HUG WAS REALLY SWEETĀ
- YESSS FUCK YESSS. DRAGONBUG LETā€™S GOOO!!!
- SHE USED THE WATER DRAGON WITH HER YOYO, Iā€™M SHOOK
- ohh shit Hawkmothā€™s gonna use Fu to reveal their identityā€™s!
- YESS MAN, CAT NOIR AND LADYBUG TOGETHER!
- Okay but... Rena Rouge, Roy Singe, Pegase and especially Viperion are so deadly all together I have no idea how theyā€™re going to win.
- NOO no. No. NO. I do notĀ want to see Cat and Viperion fighting. Even if Luka is brain washed, I dont think I can handle it.
- OK NVM WHAT WAS EASY
- Was gonna say, poor Sass, but at least he got some food.
- Hell yeah SNAKE NOIR.
- WTF NO. ROY SINGE DAMMIT. DRAGONBUG NOOO.
- Thank fUCK for Second Chance
- YESS THAT WAS GENIUS YALL
- Canā€™t believe Chloe really thought she could get Akumatized AGAIN when LB is right there
- HEYEHEYEHHEYEY CHLOE WTF STOP. she has no idea that she literally canā€™t do that. sheā€™ll crumble mentally is she uses all the miraculous
- anyway itā€™s super funny that all the Kwamiā€™s are pissed at her. (Honey it donā€™t work like that, theyā€™re not going to let you order them around)
- GUYS DO SOMETHING AND STOP THE SENTIMONSTER
- JUST GO UP THERE ITā€™S NOT HARD??
- OOF *that zoom on HMā€™s face when Fu said LB will be the next guardian aha*
- yeah.... the MIRACLE BOX JUST CHANGED WHAT THE HELL
- HAHA I like how Hawkmoth and Mayura just rode off on the Sentimonster
- Goodbye and good riddance, Chloe
- THEYā€™RE GONNA FIX THE PEACOCK MIRACULOUS?
- Itā€™s sad hours now boys... Fu doesnā€™t remember anything... Wayzzā€™s face too, ugh :(
- MARINETTEā€™S NARRATION WAS FROM THE POV OF FUā€™S LETTER. HOLY SHIT. WHATTHE-
- Fu was ready to throw everything away, everything in that locker... Oh my god, Iā€™m not ready for this
- Marianne! AHHH (he remembered her in some way, gosh damn this is bittersweet)
- WHAT.. what.... what the.... Adrien and Mari getting ice cream together, smiling.... AND TALKING normally, I...
- The way that the camera followed them... the fact that they said goodbye to each other to go sit apart from each other...
- NO .... NO I CANā€™T HANDLE THIS.Ā
- Lukaā€™s tune was so similar to the theme song andĀ Iā€™m... yeah Iā€™m getting chills OKAY, Iā€™LL ADMIT IT
This... holy shit this finale was good. Like... damn I loved how it ended. There were some good moments that I appreciated, and all together it was really nice.
I need to know how season 4 is going to pick up after this one, so much has changed. I want this show to be better, I really do, and Iā€™m hoping the next season really takes the wind out of us.Ā Ā

Alright im ready to explain lets gooo (backstory under the cut)
( @funkyhighwayā€‹ @icyanzā€‹ )
So basically the way her story goes is she is your typical Naiad born before the war. Tensions had been rising between the Dryad and Naiad, and she was for the most part on the Naiads side because well, nice older brother who is our boy Xane is one of them, i guess.
Well cue her being old enough that she just does her own thing. Ends up spending a lot of time in the Hallow because she likes the creatures and general environment there better. Things are getting bad between the Dryad and Naiad and she kinda starts to feel like her heritage is putting her on the wrong side of history.
Now shes colluding with the Dryad because theyre starting to combat the Naiad with the Hallow, confliction ensues. But shes determined to keep the peace, so she follows heavily after Xyvarethā€™s younger brother Xygvane who as we remember also wants to keep the peace. He dies to ā€œmysterious circumstancesā€ and well, we know what happens next. Big battles and shit just sucks.
Xenaviere knows now that because shits hit the fan shes gotta get over to the Dryad to try and help them out because well, her race is now evil and she doesnā€™t want to be a part of that (note this probably happens over the course of a few years of just fucked up stuff). She makes it to the other side of the battlefield after getting a bit fucked up by some Naiad soldiers but otherwise got out okay because her agility is just kind of better than the average Naiad but shes forced to kill them with her Starfury (which she got a while back and is a long story on its own) because theyā€™d otherwise follow her to the other side of the battle.
She arrives and the Dryad donā€™t trust her because, well, literal sister of worst most terrifying Naiad general, but they let her stay anyway because she was more Hallow orientated and looked pretty fucked. Word spreads around and June comes to meet her (Juneā€™s not depressed at this moment) cause shes pretty stoked to have a Naiad hanging out that isnā€™t an utter dickbag and thanks her for at least trying to be a good person.
Xenaviere goes back and fourth all sneaky like now, kinda acting as a spy for the Dryad. She catches word that somebody has been assigned to assassinate the Dryad Queen and what do you know but itā€™s her own brother. That donā€™t feel so good.
So she goes back to the Dryad and isnā€™t really sure whether she should tell them or not. On one hand, her allies are in danger, but on the other, if Xane fails then he could get killed and she doesnā€™t want him to get killed because heā€™s still pretty nice to her, and has thankfully been politely ignoring that she has had a facsination with the Hallow for a long time.
Anyway, the time comes and she keeps on the lookout for her bro who she knows is gonna come at some point. She sees a shadow getting ready to pounce from the tree branches above and as the speedy bitch comes down she knocks him out of the way. Xane looks pretty psyched for a fight but then realizes who hes fighting against and he kinda just goes ā€œā€¦WHAT THE FUCK.ā€
Xenaviere is trying to be as stoic and composed as possible, not really thinking this far ahead with her sword unsheathed in front of her. Long story short, he feels betrayed as all hell and she feels pretty goddamn guilty but still willing to take him on. They fight in front of the queen and some of the battle on the ground nearby quiets because they see two Naiad fighting each other, one being the goddamn general under Xyvareth and his younger goddamn sister.
The fight goes on for a bit. Xane is starting to become ruthless because the adrenaline of the fight is pushing him to forget who heā€™s fighting against, but Xenaviere is agile and manages to keep the blows from hitting. What do you know, sheā€™s almost a match for him! ā€¦Almost. She swings forward and he dodges to the side. Sheā€™s getting tired and her emotions are getting the better of her so she lets her guard down for a second and in that second, a sharp ol blue blade pierces through her torso.
Xaneā€™s fucking extatic that he finally got the kill but that kind of drains away from his face when he realises what heā€™s done. He pulls out the sword out of horror and she falls to the ground. Sheā€™s bleeding out p fast now cause of an increased heart rate and there isnā€™t anything anybody can really do. For Xane, the whole world kind of goes silent and he loses himself, kinda going through shock. Nobody really knows how to react but a Naiad soldier quickly rushes up and ushers him away from the enemy territory as she dies before the Dryad can get the opportunity to attack him.
Soo thats basically my headcanon as why Xane got mega fucked up in the first place! He was always ruthless but he mostly just lost the plot after that incident. Kinda proud of younger me for coming up with this neato headcannon.
Tumblr media
[Uhh accidentally posted to wrong blog oops]
Anyway. I was listening to "Savant - Hero From The Past" and it drop kicked me back into 2015 where i created a hallow orientated naiad oc named Xenaviere, who i also headcanoned to be the younger sister of Xane.
Should i try explain her angsty backstory?
