kouvr can't help but let out a deep sigh due to mumbled words. "really shows what you think of me now. ." lips shift to the side, looking around. "whatever. come in."
"a part of me feels like you're being dead serious," she mutters shaking her head, running a hand through her hair. "no -- actually, i'm here for my things... and i'm here to return yours."

A Quiet Place (Part 3)
Summary: Part 3 for a short ficlet based on a chaotic rp by @chibi-mushroom and @animacreates. The first two parts are here, and here. Took me long enough to finish this one, now off finish to the story where Sabrina becomes a Heartless for a day.
Rating: K+
Word Count: 2,059 words
If you liked this story, please reblog!
---
“Pliers?”
“Pliers.”
“Hammer?”
“Hammer.”
“A little reassurance that I'm not going to hit my finger this time?”
“Wouldn't count on it.”
Oswald gave Sabrina a stink eye that she just as easily shrugged away from. He was finding quite quickly that being a sassypants was second nature to her. Having a strong will was good -especially for someone as beaten down as she had been- but heaven help him if it didn’t make him go slightly insane each time. She was going to have a job in power one day. He just hoped that it was on the ‘good’ side of gray and grey morality, and not the ‘bad’ side.
“You know, I think I liked it more when you just sat on the couch.” he informed her, jokingly razzing his tongue at her.
“No you don’t.” she immediately spat. “If I sat on the couch now, you’d think I’m mad at you.”
“Are you?”
It honestly took her a few moments of thought toward the idea.
“Not in this room.” she decided.
“Guess I can’t argue with that.” Oswald snorted. “Would ya bring the standing magnifier a bit closer? If you’re not going to cheer me on, the least you can do is help me delay the inevitable.”
The girl gave a sound of affirmation before adjusting the afghan blanket around her shoulders. The blanket still served as her shield against the world. She may be gaining more confidence, but outside the hobby room her glares did most of the talking. Even that was more of an improvement as well. Stoic wasn’t the best word to describe her first week. Moreover, she did a lot more than head shakes and flinching when spoken to now. She still flinched when Ortensia raised her voice when Oswald didn’t do something the first fifty times his wife asked him to- but the kid couldn’t be blamed for that. It scared Oswald to; even if the forgetting had been on purpose.
At this point, the two foster kids had been with him and Ortensia for six months and three days. The day marking that this was the longest the siblings have stayed with one family was one where Brain called the first family meeting. He never said that this was the case, but at that point both caretakers had a good feeling about it anyway. Many things were talked about that day. Most of it was a simple ‘thank you for keeping our trust’ from the heart. But there were some topics that made them all go silent in both thought and fear. The biggest one of all; would Ortensia and Oswald have children of their own as well? It was no real secret that Ortensia wanted a big family. It was even less of a secret that the two had tried for their own child before.
Ortensia said that it would be nice to have more children. Oswald remained silent; too focused on the kids for their reactions. They may have known each other for six months, but they were still a mystery to him. And what he did know...? Suffice to say, it sometimes kept him up at night in absolute fury. He didn’t even have that much hate for his own brother- and that fury was well pent up after so long.
But he couldn't think about that now. He honestly didn't want to hurt his finger again because he misjudged his hammer swing. Sabrina watched on, almost unflinching with each strike. Her eyes held a gaze that made it seem like it was her sheer will that prevented Oswald from hurting himself. She was willing each strike to hit the nail square on the head. It was perhaps the only bit of good luck Oswald didn't mind. Her intense focus led him to be extra focused as well. It took several careful moments, but his repairs on the clock were finally finished.
“Finished.” Oswald sighed, setting down his hammer with certainty. “Now all we need to do is wind it up, and see if the birdy’s gonna cuckoo. But we can do that later.”
“Why?” Sabrina questioned.
“The best thing about a spouse,” her caretaker gleefully told her, “Is finding new ways to annoy them.”
Sabrina raised an eyebrow at him, but didn’t say anything against the idea. If anything, she mentally filed it away for later.
“Do you ever sell the stuff you fix?” the girl then asked as she made her way over to the couch.
“Sometimes.” Oswald agreed, carefully taking the clock with him so he could set it beside the door. He hoped he wouldn’t forget it later. “Ortensia wishes I did it more, really. Says I do nothing more than clutter up the living room, or just create more junk sitting around without use. Thing is; everything’s got a use. It just has to take the right person to see it.”
“Like people?”
Oswald looked up, then turned his head slightly to give the girl an odd look.
“I don’t think I follow, kiddo.” he admitted. “Take me through your thought process.”
Sabrina gave a half shrug. “Everyone has a use.” she said, somewhat in a mumble. “But sometimes the wrong person looks at you and makes the wrong assumption. They treat you bad because they think you deserve it, even when you've done nothing wrong. But you still have that… potential. Potential that could easily be squished if someone decides you're not worthy before ever knowing you.”
“Ah,” Oswald agreed with a nod. “Very philosophical. A very unique perspective too, if I must say. However, them’s some high and mighty words from a girl who trash talked a store mannequin the other day.”
“I could arrange a better outfit than that.” she immediately huffed. “Pairing a tunic blouse with a denim skirt and leggings? It would have created a better silhouette if they had just put flared, knee length capris on it, with a belt a little above the hips. And don't even get me started on the flat colors they chose.”
“I think you're already started.” Oswald laughed.
“Miss Minnie agreed with me,” the child spat. She even blew a raspberry at him for good measure. But in her tall stature, she thought of something. A rather investigative glint hit her eye as she then ventured to ask, “Miss Minnie is married to your brother, isn't she? That's why she makes you fix things for them a lot.”
At first, her only reply was a grunt. He tried to hide it from her this time though; he put on a big smile as he came over to her.
“You're a pretty smart kind, you know that?” he teased while he ruffled her hair. Sabrina was quick to swat his hand away, then fix her hair again. Her stink eye was immeasurable. Oswald pretended not to notice as he took a seat on the couch. “But this clock isn’t for him, or her. This was my personal project, and tonight at dinner, Ortensia’s gonna know it too.”
“Never said it was, or wasn’t.” the girl claimed. She sat tall, but held the afghan closer to her body. “I just… I like Miss Minnie. Just a bit. But then she goes and acts all no-space like Ortensia does, and it's grating. Is she another one that wants to have a super big family even though the one she’s got is perfectly fine?”
“Mickey’s the one who picks up stray puppies.” Oswald told her, rather sharply. “Minnie, much like the rest of us, wants him to mind his own goddamn-”
Oswald cut himself off. He had to force himself to unclench his fists. He looked over at her to find a rather still expression in return.
“What'd your brother ever do to you?” the girl ventured to ask. She had never really asked much about Oswald or his other family. Mostly because she had no interest in it. She was also smart enough to know by now that there was bad blood between Oswald and his brother. But if she was going to open up, then perhaps it was time he did the same. It was only fair.
Unfortunately, his answer was less than satisfying.
“You have your 'don't-talk-abouts', and I have mine.”
“Right.” the kid said with a roll of her eyes. “So I'll just ask Ortensia about them like you ask Brain about mine.”
“Now listen here you little-” Oswald started to grumble as he made a reach for her. Sabrina yelped before getting off the couch with a start. She whipped around the couch and over to a corner. She let the blanket sway with her. Once she thought she found a safe spot, she looked back at Oswald, upturned her nose, and flung the afghan across her chest like it was a silk scarf instead.
“Easy with that thing.” Oswald jokingly huffed at her. “You move it around like you're a queen about to poison a princess. That blanket's an heirloom, you know.”
And that was when he heard it; her first genuine laugh.
“Being a queen would be such a bore.” she grinned. It was mischievous, cunning, and joyful all the same. “All she does is make the king look good, arrange banquets, and sit dutifully next to him even when he’s cheating. I’d rather be a princess. They have about… 30 percent more freedom than queens.”
“Oh really?”
“Yup.” she agreed, even popping her ‘P’ with certainty. “She gets to study abroad for her training, lead dignitaries into the kingdom, maybe even flirt with a foolish footman or two for good measure…”
“What a scandal that will cause.”
“Oh, but it’ll all be covered up before anyone even knows it happened. That’s the thing about royalty and their heirs; they’re always more than willing to sweep things under the rug to keep appearances.”
Oswald snorted. “Guess I can’t argue with that logic.” he decided. “Come on princess, let’s hang this cuckoo in the dining room before Ortensia notices.”
“Right,” the girl agreed with a nod. She walked back over to the couch to gently place the afghan blanket over the back. Oswald noted how she very gently folded it into a triangle before placing it down. She didn’t look at him as she went over to the door, but she did pick up the cuckoo clock for him. He smiled a bit before joining her. Together they left the safety of the hobby room and back into the main house.
“You know,” Sabrina mused as they entered the living room, “I’ve noticed that you usually work on older stuff. Like clocks, and projectors, and anything else that existed before Thomas Edison. How come? Why not work on newer stuff like Xboxes and plasma TVs?”
“Well, princess,” Oswald informed her. “That’s because I'm not allowed to work on electronics anymore. Not after an accident where I shorted out a control box and every single firework at Walter Elias Memorial Park went off six hours before the big show. Burnt my eyebrows off during that. Ortensia wouldn't let me leave the house for weeks after, too. Poor honeybunch thought just touching something with a charge would give me a heart attack.”
“Oh…” the girl mumbled. Oswald looked over at her, raising a concerned eyebrow.
“Something wrong?”
Sabrina shook her head. It took her awhile, but she quietly admitted, “Brain and I used to go there a lot. Walt Memorial. We always found a good spot by the jungle gym to watch the fireworks shows. Everyone sits by the safety line, you know. It gets too crowded.”
“Do you like crowds?” Oswald asked as they entered the dining room.
The girl then lulled her head from side to side. She handed Oswald the clock so he could hang it on a spot conspicuously already prepared for it.
“I don't like being invisible in crowds.” she finally decided. “I want everyone to know I'm there.”
“Keep sassing store mannequins, and I’m sure you’ll attract your own crowd.”
She tried to hold it back, but Sabrina let out her second laugh that day. The happy sound brought a grin to Oswald’s face. He was sure Sabrina still had a long way to go to really trust anyone within the family, but at the moment, he couldn’t have asked for a sweeter foster kid.

Humanity and Catharsis: FE3H Crimson Flower Meta!
I finished the Crimson Flower route for Fire Emblem: Three Houses! Now it’s time for some meta. This isn’t spoiler-free and it’s pretty long... so read at your own risk! (Though, I’m pretty late to the party, so I’m sure you’re all way ahead of me...)
Byleth’s Ending
First and foremost, let me begin by saying that this ending has to be my favorite for Byleth. I mentioned in an earlier post that I am aware of the end results of the Azure Moon (AM), Verdant Wind (VW), and Silver Snow (SS) routes, despite still needing to play it. I still felt pleasantly surprised and very pleased to play through the CF route, especially for Byleth, because I truly believe this was the best ending for their character. Byleth loses their divine powers, becoming even more human than they were at the beginning of the game, and that’s pretty neat.
(Borrowed this image from r/Edelgard; thank you, u/BrilliantGenius)
I think the biggest reason why I love this ending so much for Byleth is because they return to being a real person. Throughout the whole game, the player gets to watch how Byleth, a traveling mercenary, realizes that they are connected to Sothis, the Goddess, and how they awaken their true powers. Byleth merges with Sothis in every route, but only in the CF route do they lose their divine powers, as killing Rhea results in the breaking of the crest stone in their heart. Why does this matter? Numerous times, Edelgard mentions how she wishes to end the tyrannical rule of the Children of the Goddess (CotG), particularly Rhea, because she perceives that humanity has moved past needing to be ruled by non-humans and the oppressive systems they’ve created. Edelgard is traumatized by her own horrendous past, which drives her to find ways to end suffering. She appears like any crazy, mad queen figure in the routes that cast her as an antagonist, but what remains true throughout all routes is her passion for finding ways for humans to be humans without unnecessary suffering. She desires to restore humanity to its dignified state by eliminating the CotG, which make sheep out of people.
That’s why Byleth--the one with divine powers, quite literally the Goddess Incarnate--returning to how she was at the beginning is so powerful. This person, who became a weapon to change the tides of war, now gets to be a normal human. The crest stone breaking and her heart beginning to beat for the very first time symbolizes the collapse of the crest system and the freedom from a system that hailed Byleth as a weapon rather than a person. What’s more, Edelgard, the lord fighting for ideals of humanity, is the first person to hear Byleth’s heartbeat. She is the first person to realize Byleth’s changes, to see how they become a person again. Her dream for Fodlan is realized first in the person she looks up to the most, the person who has fought by her side since the start of the story. If that’s not poetic, I don’t know what else to tell you.
Catharsis
Now, what about Edelgard?
Let’s not pretend that she isn’t controversial. She is, and for good reason. Presented as attractive and likeable regardless of your choice of house, Edelgard serves as the antagonist for 3 of 4 routes. She dies in every route except CF and that matters. She turns into a heartless, cold leader whose ruthlessness can no longer be justified as the bloodshed continues to worsen. In the eyes of the other lords and Rhea, there is no possible way for someone as crazed as Edelgard to live. And frankly? The way that she turns out without Byleth, that makes sense.
So, why does it matter that she lives in CF, and that we see her the way she is? In no other ending do we ever see Edelgard herself returning to a sense of being human. No other ending provides reason for why she should live. CF is the only route where we can explore her character in full, realize that she is just a girl after all, and that she is human, too. That is why it is only in CF do we see this: Edelgard crying.
Following the battle at Tailtean Plains and slaying Dimitri, Edelgard nearly cries when she talks about the fallen king. Now, this is just a headcanon of mine, but I imagine that she might have remembered something about him and their childhood at the mention of her nickname, El. (”To the fires of eternity with you, El...”) His death shakes her to the point of nearly crying, but she doesn’t. She even says that the Edelgard who sheds tears died a long time ago.
But she cries when she thinks Byleth is dying.
This is the moment when the Adrestian Emperor returns to who she really is: Edelgard. Unable to help herself, Edelgard experiences grief and reacts as any person might by crying for the person she loves. She does something she hasn’t done in years, probably since she’s been a very young child in the dungeons underneath the palace in Enbarr. Why? Because she loves Byleth and losing someone you love should break you. This scene goes to show how Edelgard cares deeply for her teacher to the point of experiencing loss. When she realizes that Byleth may yet be alive (since the crest stone broke), she presses her head to her chest, hears her heartbeat for the first time, and starts to laugh. Yes, she laughs! Quietly, and mangled with the sound of some tears, which we can assume are shed out of pure joy that their professor is alive.
Here we see that Edelgard, like Byleth, is returning to a more human state. She’s finally allowed some catharsis, a major resolution to her suppressed character. Throughout the whole game, Edelgard has been nothing but repressed, constantly wearing the mask of Emperor, bound by duty, unable to be truly free. Without Byleth, she becomes even more inhuman as she really becomes more tyrannical. But with Byleth, like her teacher, she becomes more human, able to express feelings, able to be warm, able to experience loss because she loved.
Now, this is my more personal take on it, but I have always liked the thought of Edelgard and Byleth being more romantic than platonic following the timeskip. It’s heavily hinted that Edelgard has always taken a keen interest on the professor. What initially begins as a hope that Byleth may side with her turns into an actual desire to walk with her and experience a new dawn with her. Interestingly, the Japanese version has Edelgard more explicit with her romantic feelings than in the English version. Regardless of whether you read their relationship as romantic or platonic, I think this ending makes it clear that Byleth and Edelgard are equal, humans, people who care for one another and work well together. Byleth fulfills their role as more than an advisor. They are a mentor, a friend, and even family (see their ability to call Edelgard “El”, a name only Edelgard’s father and Dimitri use in CF). In that way, this route’s final message is this: that to love is to be human, and to be human is ultimately to love. That is why I really think that this route is the best possible outcome for Edelgard and especially for Byleth.
Other Takes
While I was disappointed that it was only 18 chapters long, CF does take a more direct approach, as the tides shift significantly when Byleth sides with the Empire. I would have liked if Claude and Dimitri played a more prominent role, though I know that CF focuses mainly on Edelgard and the BE’s against the Church of Seiros. I really think there was potential for Claude and Edelgard to be something besides a warring emperor and a neutral leader. I will admit: Edelclaude is a crack ship of mine. But I find their similar views on the church, their dreams of a new dawn for Fodlan, and their odd interactions to be interesting enough. I understand why Claude either must die or leave (for Almyra). If he hadn’t, that could have changed the way the war turned out, ultimately lessening Byleth’s role. It’s an interesting thought for a canon-divergent story. And let’s be real: Edelgard and Claude somewhat flirting while they face off in Derdriu? Ain’t slick at all!
And Dimitri... Oh, poor Dimitri. My best friend and roommate just finished AM and was so defeated by Edelgard’s death because of her relationship with Dimitri. They’re a tragic set of people, Edelgard and Dimitri, and it makes sense that in both AM and CF, one of them must die. Still, I was so shaken by Dimitri’s last words before Edelgard personally executes him in CF. I would like to think that that was not easy for her at all. I would like to think that she remembered him, at least a bit, and that she felt something there as she killed him. I don’t know what else I would have wanted out of Dimitri in CF, but I know I wanted something more. AM does a great job of providing good angst from Dimitri’s side. It would have been nice to see that from Edelgard’s side as well.
----
All in all, CF was a great route and may remain my favorite route, as I’m very impressed by Edelgard as a character. We’ll see! It’ll be a while until I play another route, but suffice to say that I’m floored by FE3H’s story, characters, and world. What a beautiful game, through and through!

I don't think you play TRR/TRH anymore but you should see what they did to Kiara in the newest chapter. It's so dumb and makes me so angry, especially considering the current climate of events. I've already seen people on Reddit be like "but we helped her overcome her trauma" (we didn't lol) and someone called her the c-word, very classy. Honestly PB's been low key racist in the past but all the stuff right now makes it high key...
(Apologies for the long post and not being able to place this under a cut)
I'm pretty glad I got these anons because truth be told I wasn't sure how many people - besides the few that I already knew were constantly speaking about Kiara's treatment in the books - would care enough to ask any questions about this. Most of the posts I saw expressed a disturbing eagerness to throw her under the bus, without exploring nuance or asking questions, and at this point I'm not very surprised.
I've always maintained that the treatment for Kiara is what happens when both the writers and the fandom are heartless, and these past few weeks have only been proof of that.
There are questions you could raise about this finale re: Kiara - questions almost no one seems to bother asking. I have three:
1. In this Coventus Nobilis...how is it that I see four Heads of House, and only one heir?
2. If Kiara - who is not head of house - is supposed to represent Castelserraillian instead of her father Hakim (who presides over that estate), why do I not see Madeleine? Why do I not see Penelope?
3. Why are we suddenly seeing Adeleide popping up out of practically nowhere to rep Krona/Fydelia, and Landon conveniently rep-ping Portavira?
Some of the answers to these questions lie in the questions themselves. Why else would Madeleine and Penelope not be present in this meeting - if it weren't to purposely distance them from this awful moment? After all, both of them have inbuilt subplots ready for the next book that would require interactions with the core group. How else do you think the writers could ensure we kept coddling them and pandering to them in Book 3, except by distancing them from this "betrayal"?
Why else would the narrative choose to pit Kiara - the lone woman of colour we'd been shitting on for most of this series - against Olivia - the white woman who has been given innumerable individual PoV scenes and her own mini-book (and whose reputation we had to help rebuild in said mini book whether we cared about her stupid duchy or not).
Why else would they force Kiara to alert us mere minutes before the meeting begin, if not to distract us with crumbs ("See? At least we wrote her as warning you. Of course we don't hate her!").
Why else would you have Olivia and Kiara pitted against each other like this - if not to show these two women side by side, on opposing ends - and compel us to believe that the white woman we spent 4.5 books propping up and pampering, is the most loyal one. When in fact we have done absolutely nothing to deserve any fucking loyalty from Kiara or her family to begin with! (Ezekiel and his white bride notwithstanding).
What we finally got as a result, was a narrative that (as @queen-of-effing-everything summed it up when I discussed this with her) in one full sweep "glorifies Olivia, shields Madeleine and Penelope and sets up Kiara". Very few of us even noticed. And even if we did notice, is there any guarantee that we would care??
Remember how I mentioned in my last ask that I wished we expanded the same energy that we did with Aurora, to speak up against the ill-treatment of other black characters? Kiara was undoubtedly one of those.
After this, we as a fandom will speak very easily now of her "betrayal". We will call her the b-word and the c-word. We will boast of how we will "take her down" along with Adeleide and Landon and Bartie Sr. We'll boast about how we "never liked her" to begin with, as if doing so required some...idk exemplary foresight. We will make memes about how Olivia was "the only bitch we ever respected". We will make huge, sweeping claims about how Kiara was our "friend" and how (as you've mentioned, anon) we "helped her overcome her trauma" (!!!!) and claim by that token that we were entitled to good treatment from her. I'm pretty sure when TRH3 finally comes out, her every word and action will be screenshot, put up on blogs, mocked and torn down just so we can write essays on how awful she is.
Yet I saw very little of this energy in Book 3, where the MC could first emotionally manipulate her into supporting the Unity Tour, and where we actively suspected her at a time when she was traumatized. At most there was some lukewarm acknowledgement of how she "deserves better", all while people still continued to write fanfic that positioned her as creepy and obsessed and villainous. Almost no one had a problem with Savannah not acknowledging Kiara's earlier support of her, and in fact I'd seen posts that clubbed her with the other ladies of the court who likely "treated Savannah badly". Her father Hakim was made to join the tour alongside her by default, without the expectations that Landon/Emmeline and Godfrey/Adeleide were allowed to have, and the fandom was mysteriously silent about Hakim being made to "bow to his knees" in a way the others did not have to. Very few people even bothered to notice or talk about how often Penelope was allowed to hold the MC's baby, or how Kiara was never really allowed to hold her even once. Which "friend" treats someone like this??
When I finally published this essay on the treatment meted out to Kiara especially in Book 3, what I got was a lot of neat, but ultimately hollow, little platitudes about how Kiara "deserved better" (How and in what way? Who knows, who cares). Out of those many many people who reblogged and responded, only a handful held the MC and Drake in particular (and Maxwell, who thought it appropriate to joke about "one suspect down") accountable for choosing to suspect and interrogate just her, and for showing ZERO remorse in forcing her to reopen those wounds. How is it that we can judge Kiara for this latest "betrayal", yet pretend that the MC and Drake had nothing to do with the pain THEY caused to her? How is it that this fandom was so fired up over her comments, yet would have such a weak, muted, carefully-generalized response to the screenshots where Drake was openly suspecting her and optionally minimizing her trauma?
Following that, why should we be entitled to good treatment from Kiara when we never really gave her even half as much?? Why is it so easy to divorce characters from their words and actions in Drake/MC/Maxwell's case, but so hard for a character like Kiara? (One may claim this is because Drake and Maxwell are potential co-protagonists, but the aforementioned essay already proves that you as a main character can get punished for not treating a mere side character with kindness).
Another thing that fascinates and repulses me even further is how the fandom has created myths around this one character, and how PB has constantly leaned into these "characteristics" even though the text itself tells an altogether different story:
1. Kiara is a snob. This is especially hilarious considering that she is established in Book 2 as being the only person who befriended Savannah before her departure and cared about what happened to her when she left. Never once in the books has she looked down on us for class-related issues, or outright mocked people for not knowing the languages she knew. In fact, she was the first person to acknowledge our skills if we showed any before Lythikos in Book 1. On the other hand, Penelope can be uppity and look down on us in Book 1 (there is even a dialogue option in Chapter 10 that leads to her calling us a "commoner wench") if we don't do well, and yet she's a cinnamon roll. Olivia can engage in snobbish , entitled behaviour without the fandom having a problem just because she's their favourite. Madeleine can look down on us and pretend for 3/4ths of the social season that we're not worth her time yet somehow Kiara is the snob. Okay. Okay. 😐
2. Kiara is "obsessed with" Drake and constantly comes on to him. This is said by the same group of people who saw Olivia fucking Nevrakis plant a WHOLE FUCKING SMACKER on Liam's mouth, and said..nothing. Kiara on the other hand, has admired Drake's abs once, mentioned she'd always liked Drake once, spoken normally to him about his sister once, flirted with him once (Paris tea party), and ordered a wine from him when he was bartending. In the next book she either looks at him wistfully or admires his suit. Yet somehow she's the creepy, annoying, stalkerish. Okay. Ooookay. 😑
(This one was particularly damaging, because post the TRR3 hiatus, all efforts from PB were focused on reversing Kiara's position as an alternative LI. This included "confirming" on livestream that her affections were one-sided, at a time when Olivia was finally allowed to have some romantic moments with a single Liam, pushing forward a buildup scene to Drake's eventual secret wedding that had him acting extremely rude and confrontational to Kiara mere minutes after suspecting her (while she was expressing joy at his upcoming wedding in his playthrough!!!), and involving a subplot where he openly and by default suspected her. Sure, he spends a minute to be nice to her and chat about trauma if the MC chooses. But that's like a drop of sewage water floating in an ocean of shit).
3. Kiara Pretended to Be Our Friend And Then Dropped Us: This is false. Kiara only ever promised to put in a good word for us to the rest of the court, no more, no less. And she fulfilled that promise. Otherwise she never pretended to be friends with us nor made friendly overtures either way. In fact if you're going to accuse anyone of duplicity, you have Penelope and Madeleine. Yet somehow Kiara is the dishonest one. Okay. Okay. 🙃
4. Kiara Was Insensitive To Penelope and Didn't Understand Her. I'm not sure how Kiara is supposed to magically understand something that her friend isn't telling her. Plus this argument deliberately leaves out the fact that she stood up for Penelope when people chose to be mean to her, and even explained to the MC that she employs "tough love" because she can't always be around to protect Penelope. It also leaves out how one-sided this friendship is and how Kiara is made to do most of the heavy work in this friendship. Meanwhile, at Kiara's most difficult time period, in Castelserraillian, Penelope says absolutely nothing as the MC forces Kiara to join the Unity Tour, while making bedroom eyes at Kiara's brother. In fact the only reason Kiara's brother even exists is to give Penelope a love interest. The Kiara-Penelope friendship practically revolves around Penelope. I have never really seen Penelope look out for Kiara or attempt to actually support her in any way, and Kiara was the one who got the knife wounds. Yet somehow I'm supposed to believe that Penelope's the better friend of the two. Suuuuure. 😡
And this steaming pile of crap doesn't just make its way into shitposts and short opinion posts. It creeps into fanfic and fandom opinions. It finds its way in the tags and in other social media. It eventually even finds its way into the books, even though nothing in the earlier narrative ever really supported these extremely stale takes.
Because PB didn't care for Kiara the way they cared for their white characters, they had no problem framing her narrative the way this fandom so desparately wanted it. Book 3 has the MC claim behind her back that Kiara is stuck-up and acts like knowing ten languages makes her better than everybody else, even though this is not backed up by the text, and in fact you will never see any acknowledgement of how Madeleine forced Kiara to make herself sound "exotic" in Book 2, or of how Madeleine and the MC (optionally) could downplay or question her skills unless they wanted to use her. Also, Penelope is never allowed to be talked about like that no matter what she's done. PB even had a scene (in the Hana playthrough) where they aggressively retconned the events of Madeleine's bachelorette party, where Kiara supposedly shouted at Penelope until the latter cried, and Madeleine was the one "having fun". Kiara was literally being thrown under the bus to make Madeleine look better. Madeleine. Imagine that. Madeleine.
Given how desparate the fandom was to nitpick and overdramatize everything Kiara said and did, is it any wonder that the team got away with the writing they gave her in Book 3? Considering that all the false arguments I stated above have made a resurgence in the past few weeks or days...is it any wonder that the only "support" this fandom is capable of re: Kiara, is lukewarm platitudes, cold takes and rank hypocrisy??
Yes, we can hold PB solely/largely accountable for the treatment meted out to Kiara now. They made these choices over and over, and continue to do so, while tossing us occasional crumbs of faux-sweet behaviour from the MC. And they did this in insidious ways, which were so hard to catch that even a Kiara stan like me had to observe multiple playthroughs just to unravel even half of what they'd done.
But let's not pretend a huge chunk of the fandom was just as responsible for this - with their unfounded opinions, their disgusting bias, their favouritism of white characters, their refusal to observe anything besides their favourites, and their godawful fanfiction where Kiara is a creep or evil or killing the virtuous main character. Out of the huge body of fanwork that I've seen for TRR that features Kiara - at least 90% of it features her stalking Drake, or harming the MC (particularly the Drake MC), or in cahoots with the villains, or generally being referred to as a creep (why Olivia, who kissed Liam without his consent in Book 1 and was entitled enough to be angry about him not returning her feelings in TRH1, never got this sort of writing - I fail to understand). There is a tremendous gap between the vitriol dumped on her when she does something the MC doesn't like, and the milquetoast response when harm is done to her. There have been times when I've had to comb through pages and pages of hate just to read even one positive post on Kiara in her own goddamn tag.
When the next book arrives, I know you folks will continue to gas up the white women in this book every chance you get, and mask your racist vitriol for characters like Kiara (and Hana, let's not forget the way y'all treat Hana) behind the same self-righteous judgements and the same tired, stale takes. I know that PB - despite what I will still believe is their hollow promises today - will write every single one of those stale takes into existence. All because it will be "justified", because Kiara is a "bad person" or "untrustworthy" or "fake". Whatever. Y'all can stick to Olivia The Black Hole and babysit Madeleine and Penelope, I guess. Kiara always deserved better than these writers and most of this fandom anyway.
#long post#kiara theron#the royal romance#the royal heir#trr kiara#lady kiara#i'm sorry kiki we didn't deserve you#i chose not to play trh2 and that's because this is EXACTLY what i felt would happen after they tossed us those crumbs in the book 1 finale

Facade: Dropping The Charade
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
Aelin and Rowan had been especially tense since their argument. Normally their hatred for each other was burning anger that turned into heated arguments and fiery bouts of revenge, but now... They’d both been doing their best to avoid having to see each other at all. It worked for the most part, but the one time they ran into each other taking out the garbage at the same time, Aelin hadn’t even been able to look at him. Normally, they couldn’t resist hurling insults, but now... nothing. They were both bottling it up, it seemed, and Aelin didn’t know when it was going to burst.
Aelin had managed to maneuver her way out of an interview with him as well, which she was now heading to. Aelin hadn’t wanted to go to the interview with Kaltain Rompier at all since she had a way of twisting words and her only goal was to create drama, but Aelin had no choice. Mr. Havilliard was insistent that it was important and when he’d threatened to force her to do it with Rowan after all, she reluctantly agreed.
So Aelin now found herself sitting in the interview chair, Kaltain right across from her. Kaltain was putting some finishing touches on her makeup and making sure her hair looked right. People were as fast to pick her apart as she was to pick apart her interviewees, so appearing proper and put together was important. She had a rough history as an actor which took a bad turn when she agreed to be in a movie that tanked severely in the box office, but she’d managed to worm her way onto TV and kept herself in the spotlight by ruining the lives and careers of others.
When Kaltain handed off her mirror, she turned to Aelin with a scathing smile. She’d always been jealous of Aelin’s success. And Aelin’s love life.
“Aelin, how nice to see you again,” she drawled, “How have things been?”
“Fine,” Aelin replied, curtly, “You?”
“I’ve been wonderful,” she replied, “I’ve just recently started seeing a man rather far up on the food chain. How about you? How has your love life been? I can imagine it’s been hard finding someone else after losing Sam so tragically.”
“Well, it’s about as hard as it was for you to find work after your movie tanked,” Aelin said with a smile. Kaltain’s face fell, her eyes narrowing at Aelin.
“We’re ready when you are, Ms. Rompier,” the cameraman said.
“I’m ready,” she replied, putting the smile back on.
As they went through the interview, they had quite a passive-aggressive back and forth. Aelin did her best to not lose her temper, but she was reaching her wit's end when Kaltain asked her about Rowan.
“How are things between you and your co-star?” She asked, “Everyone loved that prank you pulled on him, but don’t you think that was taking it a bit far?”
“Not at all,” Aelin said, “It was a harmless prank. And it’s nothing compared to what he’s done to me.”
“Is that a twinge of bitterness I hear in your voice?” Kaltain asked, a true, amused smile pulling at her lips.
“You know what? It is,” Aelin stated, her anger overtaking her. She wasn’t going to pretend they were best friends after what he said. He didn’t deserve even her fake friendship.
“I’m sensing some tension in your relationship.”
“It’s not a relationship,” Aelin said, “The only thing between us is the characters we play. He’s the most self-righteous, obnoxious bastard I’ve ever met, and whenever I have to spend a second longer with him than I have to, it makes me want to rip my hair out.”
“How are we only now hearing about this? I thought you two were so close,” Kaltain remarked.
“We agreed to keep it between us, but he’s pissed me off particularly bad, so see how you feel about this asshole. Fuck you.”
“Well, you heard it here first,” Kaltain said, “T.V.’s favorite couple aren’t quite the happily ever after you’d think.” Aelin felt relieved for a moment, but she knew it wouldn’t last.
Rowan was definitely going to force her through an all-new sort of hell.
Aelin locked herself up in her house as soon as she got home. What had she done? Why would she do that? What kind of idiot was she? Rowan was going to kill her. She should smack herself. They’d both agreed that it was best that they keep up the charade. But now... She’d broken it. And she was in for it.
Aelin paced, waiting for the interview to go up. She knew everyone would be talking about it. How could she be so stupid? She just wanted to get back at him for what he’d said, but why couldn’t she have just snuck into his house and put gum on his pillow, or just put vaseline in all of his pockets? Why’d she have to publically admit she hated him?
Aelin collapsed onto the couch, screaming into her pillow before turning over, glaring at the ceiling. Even when she was getting back at him, he was getting back at her. Aelin picked up the remote, needing to get away from the silence. She turned on the T.V., setting the channel to some bad soap opera to try and make her feel better about herself, but still, every passing second filled her with anxiety. She knew it was coming. A shit storm.
When she got the first buzz on her phone, she was hesitant to check it. She let out a sigh when she saw it was Lysandra. She opened the text, only to find a picture of Lys’ computer, her screen pulled up to a video captioned Brutal Hatred Between Co-stars! The Truth Behind Aelin and Rowan’s Relationship.
Ace, tell me this is not what I think it is.
I wish I could, Lys, I wish I could.
Aelin tossed her phone aside, setting it to silent. Unfortunately, she lived right next door to both her best friend and the man she just screwed over.
“Aelin open this damn door right now!” Lysandra demanded, “We need to talk about this!”
“There’s nothing to talk about!” Aelin yelled back.
“Aelin, Rowan is going to kill you! Open this door!”
“I can handle Rowan just fine,” Aelin stated.
“Aelin, I’m serious! He’s going to be pissed.”
“Yeah, well I’m pissed too and if he wants a fight, I’d like to see him try.”
“Aelin!”
“Go away, Lys!” Aelin swore as she heard her door unlock. Of course Lysandra knew where the spare was. Aelin whipped around with a glare.
“What the hell is going on in your head, girl?” Lysandra asked as she walked in, shutting the door behind her, “You’ve been all out of sorts since Halloween.”
“Rowan just pisses me off,” Aelin huffed.
“Yeah, trust me, I know,” Lysandra said, “But why now? And why Kaltain? I mean really, of all people-”
“I know! You think I don’t know? I know. She just... She asked me about him and I was just so...” Lysandra sat down beside her.
“Pissed?”
“Yeah,” Aelin said.
“What happened, Ace? You two weren’t good, but this is...”
“He tried to egg my house on Halloween and we ended up fighting and arguing. It escalated and he accused me of not loving Sam. He said I was heartless and that I didn’t care at all.”
“Oh, Ace...”
“I do love him, Lys. And I miss him every gods damn day.”
“I know.” Lysandra wrapped her arm around Aelin’s shoulders.
“But I’m in big trouble.”
“Oh yeah.” A furious banging on Aelin’s front door told her big trouble was already at her door.
“AELIN!”

Witch Hazel- Pt.4
Pairing: Jungkook x Reader
Genre: FanficWriter!Jungkook, Idol!Reader, College!AU, Angst, Fluff
Summary: There are two students in your art class with a secret: you and the quiet Jeon Jungkook. You’re a problematic idol singer, infamous for your ice cold reputation and perpetual resting bitch face; he’s the artist and author behind the viral comic series based on a certain ice queen idol. After a blowup of destructive rumors, lost motivation and inevitable solitude, you stumble upon Jungkook’s comic and find a new and unexpected light.
Word Count: 3.5k
Warnings: none
Parts: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // ?
A/N: my hope is that the idol industry can one day become a safer place for those who have dedicated their lives to making others happy ❤️
-
“Let me guess, you’re the type who needs to feel needed but also pushes people away?”
“How would you know that, Bunny Boy?”
“It’s my power.”
“You have powers too?” Snow blinks her pretty blue eyes. “Can you read minds?”
“I certainly can’t read minds,” Bunny Boy laughs. “But I am pretty good at reading hearts.”
“Oh yeah? What’s my heart feeling right now?”
“Well for starters, you seem to be annoyed by me prying too deep.”
“You are annoying.”
“And you also think I’m kinda cute.”
“I do not!”
You giggle into your phone screen for the hundredth time as you read through the latest Witch Hazel update. With the reveal of another character with secret powers, you wonder what Snow will make out of him. A friend? An ally? Or perhaps just someone who gets her.
Beneath the last comic panel of Snow rolling her eyes at the unofficially named Bunny Boy, you find cute little comments from the author.
“all i hope is for snow to take care of herself during this hiatus”
“even if it’s only a tiny amount, maybe witch hazel can help supplement as new snow content for now;;;;;;”
“ah i didnt mean to sound as if i were anywhere near snow’s level or anything;;;;;;”
“i just hope she knows she doesnt have to carry any burden all on her own”
“she has people on her side”
Your face doesn’t know whether to smile or shed tears, so you do a combination of both. It’s true, you’ve always felt alone. Always. No matter how many staff members it takes to produce an album or how many fans buy that album, you’ve never once felt that people could look beyond your idol music, your icy eyes, your mask.
But that’s exactly why you’re taking a break. You need to separate your worth from the music attached to your name. You need to prove to yourself that you’re more than what the critics and magazines say. And you’re only realizing it now that you can’t do it alone.
If only you had your own jk.seagull in your life. You’re sure the two of you would mesh well together.
-
“Where is that kid?” Taehyung pats the empty seat next to him before class starts. “He never skips class. I remember one time he literally rejected a date with a super cute girl because he ‘had to get to class’. Can you believe that?”
“Knowing Jungkook, I’d believe it,” you shrug. It does feel oddly empty without his presence, though.
“Oh really? You know all there is to know about the mysterious phenomenon that is Jeon Jungkook? It sounds like you guys got real acquainted on that date the other day.”
“It wasn’t a date, Taehyung. It was a meeting for a group project that you didn’t show up to.”
“Well it all evens out since Jungkook didn't show up today. Who knows, maybe you won’t show up tomorrow.”
“I’m sure he has a good reason for being absent. Unlike you.” You have to admit, it does worry you a little. Especially after the hints of doubt Jungkook expressed about his own beautiful art. You wish he knew how amazing of an artist he really is.
“What are you talking about? My reason was valid.”
“Having your cock sucked for five hours straight is not a valid reason, by the way.” You roll your eyes. “Let me guess, today you have a threesome scheduled after class and dinner date at 5?”
“Ouch, you don’t have to be so harsh, Y/N.” Taehyung pretends to be offended, but he doesn’t deny your comment either. “You’re really his type, you know.”
“I’m whose type?”
“Jungkook’s.”
“Where is this coming from all of a sudden?”
“I’ve said this before, but you’re a lot like Snow.”
“How?”
“In how you present yourself,” Taehyung says. “You and her both come across as cold and heartless, but somehow I don’t buy it.” He doesn’t buy what? That you’re just as much of a bitch on the inside too? Ha.
“Jungkook must have weird taste then,” you shrug. Because in your opinion, you’re not exactly an easy person to love.
“But-” Taehyung is cut off by the professor starting class. You don’t know what more he could’ve said to make you change your mind anyway.
“There won’t be any lecture for today’s class.” Your professor is busy typing away at her computer, perhaps trying to get caught up on paperwork and grading old assignments. “Instead, I want you all to take this time to work on your group projects. You may leave the classroom if you must, but remember to stay on task!”
With that, your classmates jam out of the room as if they were just freed from prison. You hear a couple of friends deciding which boba place to try out. Another group, the overachievers of the class, head somewhere outside to actually work on the project. Taehyung, too, looks as if there’s somewhere else he needs to be.
“So I-”
“Go ahead and get laid,” you sigh, shooing the boy away with your hand. “We’ll work next time when all three of us are here.”
“Thanks, Y/N! You get me,” Taehyung waves bye before dashing off.
You wave back as the hall clears out around you. It seems everyone else has found somewhere to go. Everyone except you.
But it’s fine. You’re fine.
Buzz! You jump at the sudden phone notification that seems to echo off the walls of the empty hall. Oh look, it’s a text from your only friend.
10:32AM jinnie❤️ “good morning ^O^// just checking in on you”
10:33AM jinnie❤️ “how are you holding up with everything?”
“I’m fine!” you mumble rather aggressively to yourself, sliding your ass down onto the filthy hallway floor before texting back. Your chunky guitar case sits in your lap like a baby so it doesn’t get dirty.
10:34AM Y/N “i miss seeing you at work everyday :((((”
10:34AM Y/N “lololololol jk”
10:35AM Y/N “fuck work, am i right”
10:36AM jinnie❤️ “Y/N”
10:37AM Y/N “😒”
10:37AM Y/N “im fine”
10:38AM jinnie❤️ “thats exactly what people say when theyre not fine”
But you are fine. You’re completely fine with sitting all alone in an empty hallway, texting your only friend who also happens to be your manager.
10:39AM jinnie❤️ “what are you doing now?”
You pick up your guitar and start walking away. Obviously, you can’t tell him what you were actually doing because it would worry him too much. But you can’t lie to him either.
10:41AM Y/N “if you really must know”
You wait until you arrive at your new location before answering Seokjin’s million-dollar question. You’ve found your place.
10:45AM Y/N “im practicing in the music room before my theory class starts”
He sends you the Surprised Pikachu meme but also a few supportive comments.
10:46AM jinnie❤️ “good luck!”
10:46AM jinnie❤️ “and if you ever need something, please reach out to me!”
10:47AM jinnie❤️ “ill be checking in on you every now and then, but please enjoy your time off~”
10:48AM Y/N “thank you seokjin”
With your manager off your back, you settle into the empty music classroom and pull your trusty guitar out of its case. The flat and out of tune strings remind you of how long it’s been since the last time you touched the guitar. Because despite carrying it around wherever you go, it’s all for show.
In all honesty, you’re too afraid to let others hear, and yet, part of you wants them to know. You want them to know you’re an artist in your own right—without the judgment. But that’s asking for too much from this cruel world. Especially when you know you aren’t there yet.
One by one, you turn the pegs on your guitar, fine tuning each string by ear. That’s always been your secret talent, and maybe that’s how you’ve never been off-key since the moment you said your first words. If there was one thing you had going for you as an idol, it was that.
Once all the strings are tuned, you just sit there, staring at your fingers curved naturally in the C chord position. The muscle memory is still very much ingrained in you, but so are the scars. The last time you actually held your guitar, you were told you weren’t good enough. So you ended up settling for something else.
Today, however, you want to change that. You shouldn’t let several people’s opinions determine what you can or can’t amount to just because they were the professionals of the industry who supposedly “knew” what they were doing. They didn’t know you then, and they certainly don’t know you now. They don’t even know your real name.
But that’s okay. Having a secret identity makes you feel as though you can someday become a true superhero, someone who makes the world a better place from behind the scenes. In that sense, you want to be someone like your current favorite person on the internet, jk.seagull. You don’t know him, nor do you know his real name.
All you know is that his craft makes you happy.
With the funny fanfic boy in mind, you glance up to make sure the coast is clear before taking your first strum. Despite the dullness of your old worn-out strings, what your ears hear is crisp and bright.
-
You aren’t sure how much time has passed since you began singing along to a melody only you know, but you’re suddenly pulled back into reality with a single mention of her from outside the classroom.
“What do you think about the Snow news?”
“It’s honestly sad.”
“With how little she contributes to her music, I really don’t think she deserves a break.”
“She should just keep going. How hard is it to sing a few songs? I hope she knows she’s letting a lot of people down just so she could relax.”
“Or better yet, she should just retire early.”
You set down your guitar on the piano bench. You’ve heard quite enough and you’re ready to slam the door on the noisy group passing by. But by the time you peek your head out from the crack, the group is already at the other end of the hall. You do, however, find a surprise sitting right outside the music room.
The boy who was supposedly too sick to come to class is too busy sketching away to notice you staring at him.
“How long have you been sitting out here?”
The tiny hairs on the back of the boy’s neck stand up as his drawing hand freezes at the sound of your voice. He turns around, looking up at you as if he’d been caught doing something he shouldn’t have been doing.
“Since I started sketching.” Jungkook shows you a simple yet pretty drawing of a flowery spring field. By his art standards, it couldn’t have taken him long to draw that one page.
But it isn’t until you start flipping through the rest of the pages in the sketchbook that you realize he’d been sitting there for quite a while. Each page is similar to the last with only slight differences in between. When you fly through the pages like a flipbook, you see the whole picture.
From the first sketch of spring flowers, snow slowly covers the field until only a single flower remains in a winter wonderland. If you go in reverse, you can watch as the snow melts away until that one flower disappears amongst its brethren.
“What kind of flower is that?” You point to the one that somehow managed to blossom through the thickness of the snow. Maybe if it were colored in, you’d have a better idea.
“A strong one?” Jungkook shrugs as if he’s not the artist who knows the the answer. You hate yourself for cackling along at his lousy joke. He closes his sketchbook as a way to change the subject. “Why aren’t you in class?”
“Funny you should ask. The professor dismissed our class to work on the group projects. And then Tae ditched to go do his usual skirt-chasing shenanigans because somebody in our group didn’t show up.”
“Sorry,” the boy bites his lower lip with a hint of regret. “I didn’t really feel well enough to sit in class today.”
“Then why didn’t you just stay at home?”
“I still had this project to turn in and finish for my other class.” He raises his sketchbook. “And besides, music is the best medicine.”
You feel your cheeks burning up. The last person you expected to catch you messing around with your guitar in the music department was the art student who was supposed to be out sick. “How much did you hear…?”
“All I heard was one song…” He assures you for a slight second before going in for the kill, “…that you kept replaying over and over and over-”
“I get it. You heard a lot,” you hiss. “You better not tell anyone! Not even Tae.”
“I won’t,” he promises, chuckling at your distress. It seems the kid’s gotten comfortable enough around you to start clowning you. “It’s a nice song, by the way.”
“Really?” You want to believe him, but you have a hard time doing so. When all you’ve heard was brutal criticism for the past few years, it’s difficult to accept any compliment without feeling like there’s ill intent behind it. It feels wrong to feel good about yourself.
Besides, maybe he’s just complimenting you out of obligation. Like he’s trying to be nice, even if he doesn’t actually feel that way about your song.
“I’ll burden the pain so you don’t have to,” he says.
“What?”
“That’s a line from the lyrics, right?”
You nod.
“It’s a very Y/N thing to say.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Jungkook shrugs and swirls his Sailor Venus keychain around his index finger. “Just take it as a compliment, Y/N.”
If not for his soft teasing smile, your mind would still be filled with doubt. Instead, you accept the compliment and gain a tiny bit of confidence back.
“Come in for a second,” you start walking back inside the music room. “And close the door behind you.”
Jungkook does as he’s told, his eyes glued to your guitar as you pick it up off the piano bench. There, you do something you’ve never practiced but had always hoped to perform as Snow—your own acoustic version of one of your songs.
It doesn’t matter that you’ve never practiced or touched your guitar in years. You know the key, the chords, the strum pattern. And you know how to make it your own. Not Snow’s or anyone else’s.
When you’re done with your mini acoustic performance, the boy can’t help but chuckle. He’s about to clown you again. You can feel it.
“What??”
“It’s nothing.”
“Jungkook.”
“It’s seems like you don’t hate Snow as much as you lead on.”
“I was only trying to show how I would’ve done the song if I were her.”
“Ah, so you criticize Snow so much because you think you can do better?”
“Not necessarily better… just differently.” You hope that answer is enough to satisfy the boy. But it’s not. He only nods with an awfully suspicious smirk. “What now??”
“It’s cool that you want to be a songwriter.”
“I never said that I did,” you say with a slight pout and hmph. You’ve never once mentioned your true dreams to anyone besides maybe some random kid at camp when you were ten. You’d hate to announce your bold aspirations with the utmost confidence, only to flop and fail before achieving anything. You’d rather keep it a secret until you perhaps “pop-off” as the kids say.
“Sure.” He doesn’t believe you.
“Are you always this sassy when you’re sick?”
His long locks flow as he shakes his head. “I’m feeling better now, actually. Thanks to your medicine.”
Maybe the kid was faking his sickness all along. Then again, Taehyung did say Jungkook wasn’t the type to skip class under most circumstances. Perhaps there was something else that was bothering him.
“Wait, you weren’t upset about Snow’s hiatus, right?” You remember the gossip from the noisy group that had passed by earlier. The beating you took from their words still stings.
“To be honest, I was worried about her at first with everything that went on,” Jungkook says. “But I think she probably just needed some time away from all that.”
“Probably,” is all you say, doing your best to downplay the amount of relief his words gave you. He isn’t upset or let down; he just wishes the best for your well-being. And as an idol, that’s all you’ve ever asked for. “You know, you’re the nicest Snow fan I’ve ever met.”
“You know a lot of other Snow fans?” Jungkook tilts his head at your odd statement. Oh right. You’ve only really met other fans as Snow, not as Y/N. Now you sound suspicious.
“Oh yeah, for sure. My friend, Seokjin, reads Snow smut all the time,” you force out a laugh while making a mental apology to your manager. Then you decide it’s best to change the subject before you blow your cover. “Speaking of fanfiction, I need your opinion on Witch Hazel!”
“What about it?”
“The new bunny character.” You whip out your phone for direct reference of the comic. “He’s funny, right?”
“He’s good at teasing Snow,” Jungkook looks at your phone screen of the bunny saying that Snow thinks he’s cute. “I wonder if he’ll make her fall for him.”
“I want him to.” Your eyes light up without knowing. To have Snow fall in love is wishful thinking, but a large part of you craves romance deep down—even if it’s only for the fictional version of yourself. “But at the same time, he’s not Snow’s type.”
“What’s Snow’s type?”
“Huh?” You somehow managed to fuck up again, so you shrink yourself and hope to disappear. “I don’t know… Why would I know what Snow’s type is…? It’s probably not a playboy like the bunny, but I wouldn’t know that…!”
“So you think she’d like someone more… considerate?”
You nod. “Probably just someone who takes the time to get to know her.”
“I guess we’ll see in the upcoming chapters.”
“I’m looking forward to it.” You can’t quite hold back a smile. After all, your day always feels a lot better when it involves your favorite little comic.
Jungkook must’ve noticed your face because he makes a comment. “I am curious, though, as to why you like Witch Hazel so much when you clearly don’t care for Snow herself.”
“For me, it has nothing to do with Snow.” To mask your smile, you make a cute duck face instead. “Reading it just… makes me happy.” As much as you’d hate to admit it, it’s been a long time since anything has given you good vibes the way that one comic does.
“That’s good,” the boy says, gathering his things to head to his next class. “It’s the same for me with Snow’s music… in case you were wondering.” And with that, he leaves you with something to think about.
If Snow’s music is Jungkook’s medicine, Witch Hazel is yours.
-
By the time you get home from school, you’re still smiling like an idiot after what Jungkook had said. Snow’s music makes him happy, and the mere thought of that makes you happy. It’s in (very rare) times like this that you remember why you chose to become an idol in the first place. It’s why you endure the pain.
With your mind clouded in an unfamiliar wave of emotion, you pull out your phone and tap on Jungkook’s contact information. After changing his contact name to something cuter, you start composing a casual message just to say hi.
Jungkook. What if I told you a secret?
Delete. You’ve never deleted a message so quick. You don’t even know which secret you would’ve told the boy. That you’re his crush, Snow? Or that he’s yours? Not that you have a huge crush on him… You swear it’s just a tiny one!
Regardless, you shouldn’t be sharing any of your deepest secrets with him—at least not for now. It’s not that you don’t trust him. It’s just that it’s a tricky situation to be in.
Your eyes move from your guitar, to the stacks of handwritten sheet music beside it, to the album that won you your first award—where the pain all began. Even the most supportive fan could not imagine what you’ve given up to be the idol that you are, to be someone with a name.
The only thing you can do now is take it all back. And only then will you let Jungkook in. But until that time comes, you don’t belong to him or anyone else.

It’s Only A Myth Witchers Don’t Need Family
@geraskierweek
TITLE: It’s Only A Myth Witcher’s Don’t Need Family
AUTHOR/ARTIST: @sageclover61
PROMPT DAY #: Day 6, Found Family
SUMMARY: The general population is wrong about a long of things. Witchers have feelings, Mages have feelings, and Bards are more than the shenanigans they get up to. Geralt might think he doesn't care what others believe him to be, but he's more than their hatred and their fears. Over time, he learns a valuable lesson about his pack.

Everyone knows that Witchers don’t have feelings. They don’t form attachments, they can’t feel anything , and they’re no better than the monsters that they hunt. Those who believe in souls would say that Witchers don’t have them, can’t have them, because they’re too inhuman for a thing as human as a soul.
Some say that Witchers were born without souls, and others would say that they were cut out of them. Either way, they were inhuman.
They’re wrong. Witchers didn’t do families. Or attachment. But it’s a choice, a rule, a law . They’re sterile, and the only thing that separates them from the monsters that they hunt is the choices that they make. But not because they were incapable of attachments or feelings. Rather, they felt everything too strongly, and used the coldness they displayed as a means to protect themselves.
They could live forever. No one around them was going to. Human lives were a single grain of sand in the hourglass of the universe.
Everyone knows that mages trade their capacity to feel things for the enhancements that make them beautiful and immortal and powerful. It makes them cold, and petty, and amoral. They’re human, anymore. They’re something greater.
Humanity fears them for it, and uses them, and craves to be like them in the same pretty sentences they weave to use to abuse them.
Mages don’t want families. They sacrifice their ability to have children in exchange for power. They don’t need anyone. Not to depend on, not to be dependent on them. They did live forever. Even the lives of the Witchers were but a grain of sand.
Everyone knows that bards aren’t to be trusted. Their words hid too much behind them, charming wives away from their husbands, husbands away from their wives, and running away before anything could be done about it.
But there were whispers, in dark corners of taverns at night, when no bards were around. Rumors of clandestine meetings, from which only the bard would leave alive and of coin trading hands as quickly as daggers sinking into hearts, and strange concoctions being tipped into drinks when no one was watching, leaving the drinker dead by morning.
They didn’t have families. They didn’t need families, all the bastard children running around unclaimed. They didn’t have time for them. Lives too short, too many places to visit and epic ballads to write, and deaths to be gleaned at the hands of jilted lovers.
They’re wrong, about Witchers. Witchers are less than human, but they’re more, too. If humanity is defined by their capacity to feel, then Witchers are defined not only by their infinitely greater senses, but also their infinitely greater capacity to feel .
Geralt can’t speak for all the Witchers, but he finds that their disdain for him makes everything, easier, somehow. They hate him, so they send him on his way once he’s helped them, often without paying all that he’s owed, and it’s easier to keep himself from getting attached to them. He says little, cloaking himself in a facade of whatever the fuck they need to keep from desiring to get closer to him.
He pretends so well and for so long, that he forgets that he’s pretending. Opinions of him decrease and decrease, until he didn’t know they could get any worse, and then it does get worse.
“You say that you can’t choose but you had to, and you’ll never know if you were right. Your reward will be a stoning and you will run. You will try to outrun the girl in the woods and you cannot. She is your destiny.”
She does not tell him that the stoning is his reward for caring so much, but it is. He cares deeply, and impossibly, and being able to do so is supposed to be against the way of the Witcher.
He kills neither the girl nor the mage, but the whole town of Blaviken is dead.
Geralt uses a Witcher Sign, and he wonders if anyone else had ever thought of such a use for it. He uses Axii to wipe the knowledge of the curse of the black sun from Stregobor’s mind, and force him to forget about Renfri.
He manages to convince Renfri to stop hunting him, and move on with her life. She’s safe, now. She doesn’t have to run unless she wants to, and she can discover for herself what she wants.
She’s 16 and she has never had peace. But she can have it now, she deserves it.
Renfri trails after him for 3 days, and then, she is gone, having chosen for herself what comes next.
She was the first of Geralt’s pack, though she did not know it.
Jaskier was, in all probability, the sluttiest slut who had ever been a slut. If not, he was definitely the sluttiest bard who’d ever existed. He who would happily charm into his bed anything and everything that could possibly consent to joining him there. The husbands, the wives, the elves, the monsters, even those who believed themselves to be the most celibate of priests and priestesses allowed themselves to be charmed into his bed.
He loved this life of performing for the masses, and running from vengeful cuckolds. Jaskier had always craved some more adventure, and this was as fun as it got.
But then, the great Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, walked into the bar while he was playing, and he knew that even greater adventure awaited him.
His first adventure, and he even ended up with a brand new, elven crafted, lute. From Filavander, the king of the elves. He didn’t think it could get any better than that, but then he was falling in love with the Witcher who didn’t use enough words, and, who despite his course addressing of him, treated him well.
Tumbling into Geralt’s bedroll with him, there was no place on the entire Continent that he would rather be.
He was the second member of Geralt’s pack, and followed by his side, faithfully, for twenty three years.
Yennefer did not have a choice. She had a series of impossible decisions, and a destiny that led in a direction she did not wish for, so she broke it. No longer was she the little girl to accept the hand of cards that had been dealt to her. No. She needed no one. She was as alone as she had always been, but she chose power over being a wife or a mother. She did not know that was her choice.
She did not know that humanity despised mages, even while demanding their services to fix their messes. Yennefer had the potential to be the greatest mage to ever exist, and yet for thirty years she was nothing more than a royal arse wiper.
Nobody. She was nobody. She was hated and despised by the same people whose very lives depended on her. It was not what she had envisioned, nor was it the power she’d so desired.
But then she was escorting the queen and the new darling princess the queen didn’t even want, and she could not allow her to so callously attempt to bargain with the assassin for her own life, with the life of her child.
What mother was willing to allow a fiend her child if it meant that she could live?
The assassin kills the mother with a single blade, but Yennefer is willing to risk her own life to save the babe, and the magic accepts her desire without requiring her life.
The baby wasn’t born of her blood, but she realizes that’s okay. She doesn’t know what Kalis named her daughter, so Yennefer names the baby Ksenia.
Yennefer hates being trapped in a gilded cage for a stupid mayor of a stupid town in a stupid country that she hates infinitely. But she must provide for the little girl she’s raising as her own, and this is the only way, now that she’s left the Aedirn court.
Ksenia is almost ten, and Yennefer loves her more than she's ever loved anyone, and if the mayor so much as touches a single hair of her head, she's burning this town down.
She was entertaining herself with a masked orgy when a Witcher brought her a pitcher of apple juice and a dying bard. What wish did they make, she wondered, as she mixed the antidote for the tumor in the throat.
Could she use the Witcher to get the mayor off her back? She didn’t want her daughter growing up here. It simply wasn’t the best place for her to be. So what to do…
In retrospect, using the Witcher to attack the members of the council she hated the most, especially before she knew all of what was going on, was an incredibly stupid mistake. She was lucky Ksenia hadn’t suffered any harm, once the djinn had set its sights on the house they were all in.
So was the fact that Geralt had made the third wish silently. It could be anything. But whatever wish he’d made, Ksenia was safe, and so was she. It had to be good enough.
“You know, you could have just told me that you wanted to get yourself out of this place.”
Yennefer turned around quickly, seeing the Witcher standing behind her. “And how do I know you truly would have helped us? Your kind isn’t so fond of my kind, as I recall.”
She could hear the bard speaking with Ksenia, but it wasn’t important. Whatever Geralt was about to say, however, she could feel that it would be one of the most important things she would hear for a very long time.
“Contrary to popular belief, Witchers aren’t all heartless beings. Regardless of my feelings towards someone, I will not ignore a child in danger, especially when there is a chance I can help save them.”
Yennefer didn’t know what to say, so she remained silent, watching her daughter. The daughter whose life she had risked foolishly, because she had been too selfish to ask for assistance.
Ksenia was laughing at something the bard had said, she wasn’t sure what. When had she last seen such a carefree expression on her child’s face? Had she really spent so much valuable time with this worthless situation, when there were so many more important things? Like whether or not her daughter was happy ?
There was a sigh from Geralt, then, as he moved to leave. “I will not keep you from your child any longer than I already have. All I ask is that should anything happen, you ask for help, before it is too late.”
“Ksenia.” She did not raise her voice, loathe as she was to separate her from what she was finding so hilarious, but she also needed to know that the child really was okay after all that had happened.
“Yes, Mama?” Ksenia turned her head in recognition of her name being called, but she didn’t move the rest of her body, and she was still grinning, eyes still laughing. She somehow looked younger than her nine years. Smaller and more innocent, but not unhealthy. Not injured .
“It’s time to go, My Heart. There’s another home waiting for us elsewhere.” She didn’t know where, but there would be somewhere . Anywhere would be better than this place had been for them.
Yennefer and her daughter were the third and fourth additions to Geralt’s pack, and neither of them had any idea.
“And what does a Mage like you want with a dragon hunt?” Jaskier asked the next they saw Yennefer. “Don’t you have a daughter to be looking after?”
The expression of sour hurt that spread across Yennefer’s face was almost enough for him to regret his taunt. But it wasn’t until she said, “Ksenia is dying from dragon pox, I need the dragon’s heart to cure it,” that he really regretted it.
Even after so long, he could still remember the fear in his sisters’ eyes as they heard of a mysterious plague sweeping through the land, and the horror in his parents’ eyes when the youngest had fallen ill with it. He could remember watching helplessly as it spread from one sister to the next, as his parents locked his sisters away in a room, unable to watch as the sickness slowly stole away their lives.
“Jaskier-”
It had been the strangest, and deadliest plague. A wasting illness, a horrible rash, an ever rising fever. It had left them bedridden, lost in waking nightmares. Famished, but unable to eat, and sweating more than they could possibly hope to drink. He could still hear their screams, as the disease had taken weeks to run its course. Though he had been told to stay away, he just couldn’t. He’d snuck into their room, laying with them, and holding them as they shook and cried, praying to any god who would listen to spare his baby sisters.
But it had all been pointless. A month after the first signs had been noticed, they had all been stolen away from him, leaving him alone to face his parents.
“Jaskier!”
Jaskier found himself blinking, staring at Geralt in confusion. When had the Witcher moved in front of him? “Geralt? What’s the matter?”
Golden eyes stared back at him, narrowed in concern. “You were speaking with Yennefer, but froze. I’ve been trying to get your attention for several minutes now.” he paused for a moment, eyes searching for any unseen wounds, but Jaskier knew that he wouldn’t find any. “What happened?”
He shook his head, trying to calm his heart as he put on the same fake smile he’d been forced to wear all those years ago. “It’s nothing, I was just distracted for a moment.”
Jaskier might have missed the whole of the battle sleeping in, but the fight he’d missed had nothing on the scene he witnessed now. The whole of the dragon’s lair was littered with blossoming flowers in a pale blue, yellow, and dark purple, and in the back of the cave, alongside the massive body of the green dragon, a golden egg was glowing .
He’d never seen this kind of flower before, but even from where he was standing, he could feel the magic emanating from the petals, so thick it was almost impossible to breathe.
His sisters would have loved it. A sunny meadow would have been prettier, but even a cave full of flowers in their favorite colors would have been a hit.
Despite himself, he reached down to pick one of the pale blue ones. Even as he bent now, it felt like blasphemy to vandalize it, but he just wanted to get a better look at the flower that reminded him so much of his youngest sister.
Even as he severed the stem, the flower crumbled into dust.
“Humans have all but wiped the dragons out, believing them to hold all manner of cures for their ailments. Fertility, blindness, lost limbs, even to hold the secrets of immortality. They’re wrong. There is no cure that can restore your womb.”
Jaskier glanced to where Borch was standing in front of Yennefer. Borch was holding a handful of the flowers that he’d just tried, and failed, to pick.
“These flowers only grow where dragon fire has burned, but they’re most common where we hatch our young. I give these to you freely. My heart will heal yours.”
“ Dragon’s Heart,” Yennefer gasped.
Jaskier swallowed heavily. “Borch,” he said, quietly. He did not think he could speak louder, but he also did not think the gold dragon would have any trouble hearing him. “Would flowers like these… have saved them?”
“Perhaps, Julien Alfred Pankratz.”
His insides burned at how ironic it was that flowers in their favorite colors might have saved the lives of his little sisters. There was a very sad, very epic ballad in there somewhere.
A dragon’s fire breathes new life.
“You may take these with you, Bard.” Borch handed him a bouquet of three flowers, one in each color. One for each sister. “They will not wilt, and if you were to plant them, they would grow.”
“Thank you.” There were no words that Jaskier could say that would convey his gratitude. But his heart burned, too. These were the flowers that would have saved the lives of his little sisters, and he was only holding them too many decades too late to be of use. “Yennefer, may I come with you?” He was intimately familiar with dragon pox. At the very least, he could help Ksenia feel more comfortable while Yennefer prepared the medicine to cure it.
“Jaskier.”
Jaskier turned around, and walked towards where Geralt was standing outside the cave. He hugged the witcher. “I need this,” he whispered, brokenly, even as Geralt kissed his forehead. “I need closure. And you need to go find your Child Surprise. She needs you.”
“I know you do.” Geralt’s voice was soft, almost softer than Jaskier thought was possible. “I’ll find you, or you will find me, when you’re ready. And by then, I may have my Child Surprise, ready for you to meet.”
Yennefer made the cure for dragon pox, and Ksenia lived.
And Jaskier found himself in a place he’d never ever thought he’d return.
There were three marked graves in a meadow in Lettenhove. The pox had been believed too contagious for them to be buried in the family graveyard, so they had been buried here instead. This was almost easier, however, because it meant that he could carry out his task without any witnesses.
He planted the baby blue flower over the first grave, the purple flower over the second grave, and the yellow flower over the third.
“Answer your calling,” his eldest sister had said, her dying words to him, as he’d held her hand and fervently wished that she would live. “Go be a bard.”
He had spent his entire childhood trying to be the very best big brother that he could be. He’d learned to braid their hair, and had played dress up with them, and stolen their mother’s makeup, and cooked with them. He’d also sung an infinite number of songs, and read bedtime stories or made them up, and all in all, they were his fondest memories.
But they had been gone for decades, and he’d left very soon after their deaths, unable to cope with their absences in a house in which the ghosts weighed more than the air they breathed.
There had been no joy, and the pain had not only been emotional.
“In a house of too many secrets
There’s no people, only their strife.
At the end of dying meadows,
A dragon’s fire breathes new life.”
He sighed. “No, no, that’s not right. There needs to be something about the memories in that house. It was… rife with them.”
“Excuse me. I’m sorry, are you desecrating those graves?”
Jaskier spun around. A brown haired woman was leaning against a tree at the edge of the meadow. She looked young, but looks could be deceiving. “Excuse you, I would never . If you must know, they’re family.”
“Sometimes our blood is the people we want to hurt the most. I’m Renfri. You’re… Jaskier, the bard, right?”
She was armed, but she hadn’t drawn her blade, nor did he think that she was about to attack him. Or at least, he hoped not. He was armed too, at least. If it came to that. Not that he was very useful with a blade.
“They died of dragon pox. I wish them no ill will, I’m simply here for closure. What brings you to the graves of three Lettenhove daughters who didn’t even have the respect of being buried in their family graveyard?”
“I had heard that the bard who traveled with the white wolf of Rivia was traveling this way, and I wanted to meet you. I’m on my way to see Geralt again, it’s been… a number of years since I saw him last, and I thought it would be polite to ask if you cared to accompany me.”
Jaskier looked back at the graves. The flowers seemed… healthier, than when he’d planted them. Taller, perhaps, if that was even possible.
“As I’m sure you know, there’s an inn not that far from here. I’m leaving in the morning, but we can stop here as we leave.”
He didn’t have his closure yet, but he did also greatly want to go back to Geralt. He’d been feeling lethargic for days.
It was possible the woman was using him as a trap to get Geralt, but if that was the case, then she had no idea who she was dealing with. If she was telling the truth though, and he really thought she was, then it meant he didn’t have to travel to Cintra by himself, and he liked that idea.
“I’m not ready to go back to the inn yet, but I will travel with you back to Geralt.”
He sang a few ballads in the tavern at the inn, including a new one in his rotation about the White Wolf. Songs of heartbreak and the lonely Witcher were popular with the masses, even if it was mostly an exaggeration.
He loved Geralt, and maybe Geralt loved him back, but while his heart did feel broken, it has nothing to do with Geralt and everything to do with three little girls.
He still channeled it into the song.
"Did Geralt break your heart?" Renfri asked when he joined her after his performance. "I would be happy to knock some sense into his skull for you."
Jaskier shook his head. "We both had things that we needed to take care of, and we'll see each other again when we're done. But some audiences prefer songs like that one and I like the coin they'll part with when they're satisfied."
"I couldn't help but overhear you in the meadow, were you writing a new ballad?"
"I'm hoping it'll bring me closure. Anyway, I think I'm going to head to bed."
Travelling with Renfri was nice. She let him ride double on her horse, and they made really good time.
They chatted about their adventures, telling various stories or just making idle chit chat. She was infinitely more talkative than Geralt.
But it didn’t help with the emptiness he was feeling in his chest. It was growing. He hadn’t noticed it at first, but now, Renfri’s random diversions of dialogue was the only thing distracting him away from it.
“Tell me about the bards who assassinate people with poison while wandering around the bar with no one ever the wiser.”
He blinked. What?” He supposed it wasn’t exactly a secret that some bards used the opportunity provided by their ability to wander around mostly unnoticed to perform more nefarious acts, but he’d never done it himself. He’d never… felt that urge. “There’s probably good money for those with the skill and inclination. But why commit murder when the greatest pleasures in life comes from sleeping with them?”
It occurred to him that he’d slept with a lot fewer people once he’d started sleeping with Geralt. The Witcher had a lot more stamina than your standard human. Needed less sleep, too. Meant the best of both worlds.
“The call of the White Wolf is loudest at the dawn
The call of a stone heart is broken and alone
Born of Kaer Morhen
Born of No Love
The song of the White Wolf is cold as driven snow
Bear not your eyes upon him lest steel or silver draw
Lay not your breast against him or lips to ease his roar
For the song of the White Wolf will always be sung alone
For the song of the White Wolf will always be sung alone
Cast not your eyes upon him, lest he kiss you with his sword
Lay not your heart against him or your lips to ease his roar
For the song of the White Wolf we'll always sing alone
For the song of the White Wolf we'll always sing alone”
Jaskier was singing in the bar of an inn somewhere north of what was left of Cintra, and he was beyond exhausted. Sleep did not come easily, and what sleep did come was plagued by nightmares of losing what little family he thought he’d gained.
He was about to beg off because even just lying restlessly on a bed sounded better than staying down here any longer, when who but Geralt walked in, Ksenia and a younger girl he didn’t recognize on his heels.
The younger girl was the spitting image of Pavetta, and he realized it could be none other than Princess Cirilla of Cintra.
“Geralt!” he exclaimed, barely noticing as Renfri made a beeline after him as he hurried over to embrace the Witcher. “I missed you so much,” he whispered, standing up on his toes so that he could kiss Geralt.
“And I you,” Geralt answered, after kissing him back. “Ciri, meet Jaskier.”
“Hi,” the little girl said.
“Geralt.”
“Renfri?” Geralt smiled at Jaskier’s traveling companion, who was standing behind Jaskier. “It’s good to see you again. This is Ciri, and Ksenia. And I guess you’ve met Jaskier?”
“Ran into him in Lettenhove. Geralt, I would be happy to see that the girls get something to eat, and a room.”
“You should do that,” Jaskier suggested, before kissing Geralt again. “I think Geralt and I have… some things to, uh, talk about.”
“We do?”
“We do,” Jaskier repeated, dragging Geralt in the direction of the room he and Renfri had already rented for the night.
They stayed a few days longer than Geralt had intended, but Renfri and Jaskier had enough coin, and Ksenia and Jaskier both needed a few days of rest before making the long journey to Kaer Morhen.
Once they left, Ciri and Ksenia, who had been riding double on Roach, took turns riding double with Renfri so that the horses could rotate who was carrying the weight of two. Sometimes Geralt would insist Jaskier ride as well, which was new, he’d never let Jaskier ride Roach before.
It took them weeks to get to Kaer Morhen, but Vesemir was waiting for them when they arrived.
The eldest witcher stared at them, and then he rolled his eyes as he opened the gate to let them in. “The others didn’t bring their packs this year,” he said. “But Lambert, Eskel, and Coen are all here.”
“Thank you,” Geralt said, and with that, he led his family into the home that would always welcome him.
Destiny would bring Yennefer back to them, and time would allow Ksenia a full recovery from her time bedridden by the dragon pox. Yennefer would have to come, someone had to teach Ciri control of her volatile magics.
Vesemir wasn’t going to say anything, but he really hoped it was before Ciri managed to dismantle the entire keep with a single shout.
The other Witchers learned to enjoy having some women in the keep who could remind them to stop eating traveling rations all winter long. It was a reminder, really, that they deserved good things too.
And Jaskier… wasn’t just a bard. He taught Ciri and Ksenia, with Renfri’s help and using Geralt’s long hair, all of the courtly braids he’d learned to make of his sisters’ hair. He also made a mean chicken noodle soup.
He also worked on his newest ballad, an ode to the memory of his sisters.
“Jaskier! You have to play a new ballad! A sad one, those are my favorites,” Ciri begged, one eaving after supper when Geralt’s pack and all the Witchers had gathered in the main living room, in front of the warm fire. She was sitting at Jaskier’s feet, watching out the window as it continued snowing.
Jaskier hummed, and plucked idly at his lute as he considered whether or not he was ready to play the ballad that would bring him closure. “100 years ago, the dragon pox took my little sisters away from me. I haven’t finished it yet, it’s not really telling the story I want to tell.”
“That’s okay,” Ciri said. “I want to hear it anyway.”
Jaskier smiled, sadly. He couldn’t deny her anything, and he didn’t want to.
“At the end of the old road
In a house built on a foundation of strife
There’s too many secrets, too many memories
Too many necessaries after too many centuries
All the things of which it was rife.
Far too much that was all but owed
And yet, a dragon fire breathes new life
Into what first appeared a dying meadow
Being that which is not a rough
But all it ever needed was that new life.”
He plucked a few more chords, but he didn’t resist when Geralt tugged the lute from his idle fingers. “You’ll be happy with it when you finish it, and it’ll bring you the closure you’re still seeking.”
“I’ll help!” Ciri exclaimed. “It’s just a matter of finding the right words, right?”
“Something like that.” He leaned against Geralt, and let himself find comfort in that.

✹☾✮ (Nina Dobrev. cis woman. she/her ) It seems that KATHERINE PIERCE (KATERINA PETROVA), the 547/18 year old VAMPIRE, has been summoned from the dead. Their loved ones in town always talked about them being STRONG + ASTUTE, and are remembered the most around high heels, dark nights in the forest, tight dresses and life long promises. Careful, they might be more AGRESSIVE + SELFISH now that they’re back. ( Mands. 23. GMT-3. she/her )
Backstory ( death tw, violence tw, blood tw, murder tw, suicide tw )
Katerina Petrova was a witch (and Petrova doppelgänger) born in Bulgaria in 1473. By 17, she had a daughter who was separated from her at birth. Katerina was banished to England, where she met Klaus and Elijah Mikaelson. Klaus wanted to sacrifice her to break his Hybrid Curse, so Katerina tried to run and even kill herself but she ended up turned into a vampire.
She continued to run from Klaus for centuries, with survival as her guiding goal. She arrived to Mystic Falls, Virginia in 1864 as Katherine Pierce. She had a romantic relationship with both Damon and Stefan Salvatore, turning both into vampires. She pretended to be imprisoned in the tomb beneath the church to keep Klaus from looking for her while she escaped.
She returned to Mystic Falls when the tomb vampires where released, blowing her cover. Katherine and the Salvatores would often become allies and/or betray eachother in their attemps to kill Klaus, who wanted to use Elena to break the Hybrid Curse and was still angry at Katherine. Pierce also has a complicated relationship with the Gilbert family, considering that she has killed Jeremy before and would gladly exchange Elena’s life for her own freedom and safety.
Eventually, Katherine was forced to take the vampire cure and died because of it. She met her daughter briefly before passing. When Katherine died, she was sent to hell and later became queen of hell. She then returned to life and burned Mystic Falls down in hellfire, with Elena, Bonnie and Stefan there. After that, she went back to hell, ruling until she was ressurected in Beacon Hills as a vampire again.
Now, in Beacon Hills, Katherine is hungry for power and for life. Katherine enjoys chaos and absolutely loves luxury, but the force that always moves her is her willingness to survive. After her last experience with death, she doesn’t want to die again any time soon. She’s very wary of the unknown forces in town, mostly of whoever is bringing back the dead.
Though Katherine might do countless heartless things, she doesn’t have her humanity off. Over the centuries of running from Klaus and surviving various other threats, she became colder, selfish and practical. She does whatever she needs to survive, and she handles it as she can and distances herself from her feelings (even though she loves and misses her daughter, who she never forgot, still has feelings for Elijah Mikaelson and she has loved both Damon and Stefan Salvatore in the past). She doesn’t get attached and she never looks back.
PS: She’s bi, just because I can.

Top 10 Disney Villains
10. King Candy Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Although he’s newer to the villain roster, King Candy was a well-written villain who served as a perfect blend of humorous and genuinely threatening. He also tied very nicely into the themes of the film, which makes him stand out in my memory as a good villain, because I take more than just personality and actions into account when judging characters, but also role in the narrative, and how they support the themes and ideas of the story. King Candy is the perfect villain for a story like this, which is why I consider him good enough to be on this list, even if as a villain himself, he might not be the most memorable among the Disney canon.
9. Gaston Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Perhaps the Disney villain we’re most likely to meet in real life, Gaston is the perfect example of toxic masculinity on full display. He’s a great anthithesis to the Beast, though I never saw him all that handsome, which sort of detracts just a little bit from the story. But in a story about how looks don’t matter, but actions do, he’s a great foil to the love interest. He’s a selfish hateful man who is handed everything he wants, and when he doesn’t get his way, he strongarms people until they meet his demands. Yet, despite his personality, he retains a legion of followers who are more-so admirers than actual friends. He never once considers anyone to be his equal or of sufficient worth unless it was helpful in his own endeavors. And anyone who has ever had a friend who basically used them and then ditched them at the soonest convenience can probably recognize that kind of so-called “friend” in Gaston. He’s a great villain to dissect as an analysis of our current culture, but I don’t want to write a five page essay on Gaston for a top 10 list.
8. Yzma Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
Inarguably Disney’s best comedic villain (not counting her henchman Kronk), Yzma is a brilliantly funny character whose exaggurated appearance and over-the-top personality blend well with the fast-paced slapstick comedy that fills the movie. Yet, despite being a funny villainess, she avoids a major pitfall of many comedic villains by also being legitimately threatening and dangerous to our heroes. That, combined with the excellent writing in the movie makes Yzma so memorable and likable.
7. Mother Gothel Tangled (2010)
Although her actual villainous actions in the movie are surprsingly few and far between, I genuinely love Mother Gothel as a villainess. Her motivations are well-established, and she’s the sole reason the story has any plot at all. Comparisons have been made to the living conditions of both Quasimodo and Rapunzel, and I would genuinely agree that Mother Gothel is akin to a diet version of Frollo without all the genocide and religious superiority. She has to be more discreet and pretend to be kind in order to keep her little flower content to remain obedient locked away from the outside world. It makes total sense the way she treats Rapunzel, and her entire character, personality, and role all fit together to enhance the narrative of the story.
6. Long John Silver Treasure Planet (2002)
Arguably one of the most human villains from Disney, Silver is a beautiful complexity as he juggles the duality of being a father-figure to the impressionable young Jim, while also betraying Jim’s trust. Since Jim’s father left when he was a child, Jim closes himself off from people and seems adrift in the world. Silver, who has no need to trick the boy for his mutiny to succeed, still takes the time to take Jim under his wing, nurture the boy’s abilities, and form a bond. Heck, with how relatively apathetic Jim was, he could have manipulated Jim into hating being on the ship, and thus have him be happy when the mutiny sets him free. But instead, he chose to teach the boy and boost his confidence. In the end, Silver is a compelling Anti-Villain where it’s hard to really define him as a good or wicked person. That is honestly more interesting than just being a straight deceitful villain.
5. Bill Sykes Oliver & Company (1988)
Perhaps the most surprising choice on my list, Sykes was a villain from Oliver & Company, a retelling of Oliver Twist with stray dogs and a kitten. However, despite Disney’s family friendly brand, Sykes is a surprisingly menacing character. A loan shark and a cut-throat business man, he spends most of the movie threatening to kill Fagin which is far darker than Disney tends to get. While many Disney villains want to kill people, those desires were driven by personal grievances with that person or people. With Sykes, it’s cold, ruthless business. He doesn’t care about Fagin’s life. All he cares about is getting his money, and Fagin’s life just happens to be the collateral. It’s the purest form of cold-blooded murder, and that’s not a common thing among Disney villains.
4. Ursula The Little Mermaid (1989)
There’s a good reason Ursula is one of the flagship villains of this franchise. She has a strong personality, is a great antagonist, and directly plays off the protagonist’s weaknesses to win. Second only to Scar, and possibly Jafar, Ursula is the classic hand-drawn animated Disney villain to get closest to winning. The fact that she’s based on a drag queen is kind of perfect, since the fairytale was written by Hans Christian Andersen to express his love for Edvard Collin discreetly. He intended to give it to Edvard as a wedding gift, but Edvard and his wife purposefully “forgot” to tell him when the wedding was out of fear that he’d make a scene or announce his love for Edvard in front of everyone. Thus, the mermaid’s taboo love of someone she shouldn’t who comes from an entirely different way of living is a direct parallel to Hans’ feelings for the young Gentleman, and the mermaid being unable to speak and suffering greatly to be near her love is a clear metaphor for Hans’ own feelings of torture. So the inclusion of a drag queen in a movie adaptation of a covert metaphorical gay romantic tragedy is just deliciously fitting.
3. The Horned King The Black Cauldron (1984)
Sykes got a place on this list for being genuinely intimidating, but this villain is living nightmare fuel. One of the best things a genuinely threatening villain can do is successfully scare you, and this villain scared the living daylights out of me as a child. In fact, he was the only Disney villain to truly and completely scare me as a child. The rest of the villains were pretty much just bad characters, but the Horned King was far more terrifying than anything else I’d seen as a kid. Though his movie bombed and the story itself was a bit lacking, the Horned King was a genuinely horrifying presence, and to this day, I can’t think Disney Villains without this guy clawing his way into my mind. Maybe as a villain himself, he’s a bit flat, but he’s a horrific undead murderous monster trying to snuff out all life. He doesn’t need to be that complex for what he is, and that works with the type of villain that he was created to be.
2. Claude Frollo The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1996)
If Sykes made it to number 5 for the cold-blooded attempt at murder on one person, Frollo strolls into 2nd place for his cold-blooded successful mass racial/ethnic genocide of multiple people over a long reign of tyranny. Although we don’t see his treats on-screen, he very verbally implies that he has been executing people one by one for at least twenty years as he crushes ants. We even see him barricade a family with children inside of their house and then proceed to burn it down. This man is not messing around, and I love it. When it coems to dark, twisted, and messed up villains, Frollo takes the cake. He is hands down one of the greatest and most horrible villains out there. And the fact that he does this all in the name of God is a hauntingly dark reminder of the true cruelty of the medieval Christian church. Frollo was written in the original book to be a deliberate critique of the Catholic church, and I for one am grateful that Disney decided to be faithful to Frollo’s horrible nature when adapting to film.
1. Maleficent Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Finally, we reach the leader of the Disney Villains. How could I not put her at the top of this list? She literally fights with all the powers of Hell. But what I like most about her is what you can piece together from the narrative. Out of all the fairies, only Fauna thinks that Maleficent could be reasoned with, and she feels sad at the idea that Maleficent may not even grasp the concept of happiness, or what it feels like to be loved. This opens Maleficent up to being a product of abuse, abandonment, and bitterness. Her hatred for the world and her actions of spite and envy come into a new light with the idea that it’s kindled from neglect and exclusion from others. It offers the question of what would happen if someone did try to just talk to her, and offers a possibly sympathetic reading of her character. But, the true crux of what Maleficent stands for is that she’s evil, and she takes great pleasure in her evil ways. She cursed a baby because she wasn’t invited to a party. When it comes to pure, unfiltered evil, Maleficent has that in spades. So, Maleficent is a perfect character no matter which type you prefer as a villain: the tormented outcast lashing out, or the heartless monster lighting the world on fire for fun. No matter what kind of villain you prefer, there’s a way of reading her narrative to satisfy you.

Jeremy Gilbert Imagines: Imagine 21: Love conquers pt 1
Y/N's pov:
I was sitting in the library when Jeremy Gilbert sat down in front of me, who pretended to be doing his history homework. Little did I know that this was going to be the start of a really great friendship.
However Little did Jeremy know My mother was forcing me to pretend and use my friendship with Jeremy to get information and Jeremy's dad's journal that consists of secrets that my mother doesn't want me tot even know.
One day i was sitting in the library Jeremy and i were laughing but it didn't forced anymore our friendship was becoming something else and i could feel that deep down i never want to hurt Jeremy so i have to come clean and tell him the truth.
my mother was a powerful witch known as Agnes who was the dark queen of the enchanted Forrest. Every supernatural creature was afraid of her. I decided that today was going to be the day i told Jeremy the truth.
My mother has always wanted me to be evil like her but the truth is i don't have a dark and cold heart like she does and being friends withe Jeremy has shown me that.
"Hey Jeremy" i said as he sat down across from me in the library. "hey Y/n" He said as he smiled at me. I was thinking about how i was going to tell him about what my mother wanted and her planned that i didn't realise that he had asked me a question until i saw his hand wave in front of my face.
"Earth to y/n" Jeremy said "OH sorry" I replied he just looked down and smiled "Jeremy we need to talk?" I said not looking at him and not meeting his eyes. "Sure whats up?" He asked his smile disappearing.
"I need to tell you the truth, my mother wanted me to befriend you because she wanted something that your father had, but i can't do this anymore, I understand if you hate me, but my mother is evil she known as the dark witch of the enchanted Forrest, I am so sorry" I said as I got up and walked away before he could say anything because he looked as if i had just ripped his heart out.
Once i left the library i decided to go for walk through the woods where i found a small beat up cabin that looked abandoned. i Decided this is where i am gonna be hiding out knowing that my mother would not accept me back now that i have betrayed her by telling Jeremy the truth about her plans and her intentions. I walked into the cabin and cast a spell to ensure that my mother won't be able to track me.
Three weeks later:
I was sitting in the cabin and sitting near the fire when suddenly i had a vision one that my mother was going after Jeremy. OH no what have I done.. I thought as I quickly got up and ran towards the Salvatore Mansion where I found Damon and Stefan on the ground badly injured "Damon, Stefan are you okay?" I asked as I kneel down to helped them using my abilities to heal their wounds. Once they were healed i helped them up.
"It was my mother wasn't it?" I asked "yea she's gone after Jeremy" Stefan said I just nodded "Yea it's my fault and I know how to stop her but we need go now before she hurts Jeremy" I said we all ran towards the woods in the direction that Damon and Stefan said that she had taken Jeremy.
We finally got there only to see my mother who was standing in front of Jeremy with black eyes I used my ability and created a ball of blue energy and threw it at my mother which took her off guard which allowed us to get to Jeremy before My mother had a chance to attack him.
I was standing in between my mother and Jeremy, Elena, Damon and Stefan. She turned and looked at me with a glare. "Well looks like my traitor of a daughter finally decides to show up" She said with a smirk.
"Yea and look who is finally doing her own dirty work" I replied as I smirked at my mother. Her smirk left her face but she started to create a ball of energy and she threw it towards us but I used my powers and used it as a shield but also absorbed her power ball which made it disintegrate into thin air which made her scared.
By now I know my hair has changed colour and my eyes has also changed colour but so has my mother's. Right now her eyes are wide because she didn't realise that I was more powerful than her and that I was able to absorb other peoples energy and using it for myself.
I created a upside pentagram in the dirt and used the energy that I had absorbed from my mother and started to push her back in the direction of the pentagram. Once her foot was in the centre of the pentagram I closed it so she wouldn't be able to use her powers.
"I cant be the evil daughter you wanted. I will not be pawn in your games no longer. Now i know why dad left you never shown anyone that you actually care about them, because your a heartless bitch, Mother your plans stop here, you're not going to hurt anyone else anymore.I'm sorry but i sending you back to the underworld of the dark Forrest" I said to her, this caused her eyes to widen in shock and fear.
Your eyes changed to dark violet colour and your hair was a silver colour. Once I finished doing the spell she disappeared and I knew that once she was back in the Dark Forrest everything would go back to normal for the mystic falls, however that means that i have to leave as well.
There's only one way for your mother to return was if someone decided to free her from the imprisonment that Had trapped her in. But in order for that they must be powerful enough as well know what the exact spell i had placed on her evil ass.
Once she had gone i turned around and Looked at Jeremy "I'm so sorry I should have stopped her along time ago. Anyway i should be going" I said leaving them without looking back not giving Jeremy or anyone a chance to say anything about what just happened.
I knew that my mother would never forgive me so i left i had no choice but to. I have no where to go except for the cabin in the woods that no one knows about. Once i arrived at the cabin i started to cast a spell that allowed me to cloak my location but also hid the cabin from plane sight. This was so no one could track me down especially anyone that could be working for my mother.
The end
Pt 2 coming soon
Hope you enjoyed
Peace out

Season 3 is really pissing me off
I’m considering giving up Victoria at this point if I’m being honest. Don’t get me wrong, Victoria wouldn’t be the show I would go for historical accuracy, but it worries me that it’s a show which sells himself as the truth.
Victoria is the feminist queen every person for the 21th Century would love. She says she is a queen a lot, defies her prime ministers (only dear Lord M is the perfect true hero, let’s forget about his pro slavery attitude or the manipulation of a 18 year old girl who had just become queen), says no to her husband multiple times because you know, she is the queen and this is her country(!!!), is pro women working, pro-Irish and even Chartists.
I was nearly giving up watching this show last year when they made this whole episode about Irish famine. I’m not going to pretend I’m a specialist in this matter and I’m sure there are a thousand people more qualified to talk about it than me but one thing I know: Victoria couldn’t care less about their wellbeing. There is no real evidence she cared for the almost million people who died in Ireland. She only donated money when her prime minister at the time, Russell, asked her to. The government urged her to visit Ireland, to give moral support but she only did that when the great famine was over.
She hated feminists, even her daughter, princess Louise who was all in favour for women’s rights was the object of her hatred. Just a quote from a letter from 1870:
“The Queen is most anxious to enlist everyone who can speak or write to join in checking this mad, wicked folly of ‘Woman’s Rights,’ with all its attendant horrors, on which her poor feeble sex is bent, forgetting every sense of womanly feeling and propriety. Lady Amberley ought to get a good whipping. It is a subject which makes the Queen so furious that she cannot contain herself. God created men and women different—then let them remain each in their own position. Tennyson has some beautiful lines on the difference of men and women in ‘The Princess’. Woman would become the most hateful, heartless, and disgusting of human beings were she allowed to unsex herself; and where would be the protection which man was intended to give the weaker sex?”
These are all things we already knew the show was dramatizing, making it better for younger generations but the thing which made me stop episode 3 and it may be a small thing was the “bully” Albert. Prince Albert wasn’t a perfect man, but he was in all honesty a far better parent that Victoria ever was. All the episode we see Victoria and Albert arguing over their new residence (I don’t see where they found Victoria hated that place since she spent many and many months there even after her husband’s death), government issues (“My country” she says again as if it would make her more powerful, a woman in power) and the education of her children. Prince Albert was extremely exigent of their children. They were taught everything, from languages to math and even normal life things as cooking. He dedicated his time to teach them some subjects and he was certainly more attentive to Bertie for he was to become king someday. He obligated his child to go through 6 hours of day of intense studying and he whipped him to correct his behaviour. He wasn’t the perfect father, maybe too strict but he was the one who played with them, who dedicated all his life to teach them all he knew for them to change the world and become great leaders of the future.
Victoria wasn’t the perfect mother. She tried to control every move of her eldest daughter making her life more difficult at the german court and even blamed her for suffering and complaining about the loss of one of her children because “losing a husband was far worse”. She blamed her son, the future king for the death of his father and was angry at him for all her life. When the Queen visited her daughter Princess Alice, the latter tried to not be seen too happy, knowing her mother was jealous of her happy marriage. Her daughter Helena was addicted to opium and laudanum but the Queen did not believe that Helena was really ill, accusing her of hypochondria.
In the end, all I want to say is Prince Albert wasn’t a perfect father, husband or man but neither was Victoria the perfect feminist queen the show is trying to sell. But what can we say if the fanbase of this narrative is a so called historian which wrote a book about the life of the queen where Albert is painted as the sexist husband and Victoria as the very happy widow, who couldn’t wait to be rid off of her vile husband?
#victoria#queen victoria#prince albert#vicbert#i love vicbert and i love victoria and albert but by loving them we need to accept they have faults#i'm tired of the narrative of perfect victoria#sorry for the rant#long post#rant

potc!au | nct
drink up, me ‘earties (never shall we die)
3 ships, 3 crews, 18 boys sailing the vast atlantic
warning lowkey dark bc potc
TAEYONG: Captain of La Vipère
loves the sea more than anything
has probably sailed more waters than any other pirate (he does own the fastest ship out there)
fears neither death nor life
but has a gentle heart so therefore...too many weaknesses
cares about his crew a lot, especially jaehyun
brilliant swordsman; one of world’s best
it’s mesmerizing to watch him amidst battle bc he fights like he’s dancing
confident & courageous & will face anything head-on
charismatic; ppl are naturally drawn to him
ten’s nemesis; their vendetta against each other is never-ending (though neither is sure how it started)
romantically unavailable bc he’ll only ever be in love with that distant horizon and boundless sea
SICHENG: Quartermaster of La Vipère
taeyong’s most trusted right-hand man
aloof, mysterious; no one rly knows why he’s here or what he wants
ex-british royal navy commander but he left all that behind for the uncharted sea, bc taeyong somehow convinced him
pretty boy
his beauty is literally deadly bc ppl let their guard down around him then lose their lives for it
terrific fighter
doesn’t talk much
can be very cruel if needed (to enemies & crew alike)
extremely disciplined but slowly trying to unravel the navy orderliness that has defined most of his life
TAEIL: Boatswain of La Vipère
loves the ship more than his crew
carefully maintains her so she’s always running at 100%
will probably go down with the ship if she ever sinks
looks harmless but is actually p good with a sword
doesn’t like fighting though
taeyong consults him a lot
experienced & versatile bc he’s worked on many pirate ships before
but for some reason everyone trusts his loyalty to la vipère
has a lot of good stories to tell
loves singing haunting tunes about dying sailors; it sets the crew on edge but his voice is too beautiful to make stop
JAEHYUN: Sailing Master of La Vipère
inexplicably attuned to taeyong’s feelings and desires
prob bc they’ve known e/o since they were little pirate boys
shares his captain’s love for the sea
taeyong trusts him with his life
doesn’t like making empty promises
soft-spoken & gentle
has the face of a heartthrob but doesn’t use it to his advantage
very precise with navigations
seems to always know where taeyong wants to sail before he even tells him
JOHNNY: Master Gunner of La Vipère
chill and laidback; nothing ever fazes him
joined the crew bc he was bored & wasting his life away on land
master gunner for no reason other than that he gets a sick thrill out of bombing other ships to oblivion
he only feels alive during battles; the more chaotic the better
so unsympathetic that ppl think he’s missing a nerve but rly, he’s just perpetually disinterested in everything
can be very charming from time to time depending on his mood
loves thunderstorms & hurricanes
JAEMIN: Surgeon of La Vipère
childhood friends with jeno; they were both orphans living off of scraps in paris
doesn’t talk about it bc they’re kinda enemies now but he worries over him a lot (taeyong knows this but can’t do much about it)
initially joined la vipère to find jeno
adapted well to life as a pirate; anything is better than the starving hell he grew up in
a surprisingly capable doctor even though the only experience he’s had was from treating his and jeno’s cuts & bruises from larceny punishments
very stealthy & nimble
good at stealing
loves his crew members
+++
+++
TEN: Captain of The Black Pearl
taeyong’s nemesis; would kill him but would highkey also fuck him (their relationship is rly twisted & intense idk)
a playful trickster
nothing but snide remarks tucked under his tongue
devil-may-care attitude; little thoughts given for the future
so unbelievably selfish and narcissistic it’s amazing he has a crew at all
but he’s fun!! and clever and charming as hell
can wiggle his way out of any trouble
very good at lying & acting
speaks a lot of languages
legendary swordsman; on par with taeyong
only shows genuine affection when talking about the black pearl
sleeps with countless ppl every time they dock at a port
DOYOUNG: Quartermaster of The Black Pearl
basically in command of the ship bc ten rarely does anything for the crew
smart, organized, well-rounded
revered and somewhat feared by the crew
hides his emotions v well
ppl think he’s heartless but tbh he’s not rly; he’s just good at separating task from feeling
has a soft spot for jeno; thinks the boy is wholly unsuited for this barbaric life
doesn’t seem very invested in piracy (he wants something more but he’s not sure what)
loves the sea at night when everything is calm & quiet
prefers peaceful sailing to battle frenzy but that doesn’t mean he can’t fight well (he’s actually the second-best swordsman onboard after ten)
KUN: Boatswain of The Black Pearl
similar to taeil, the ship is his pride & joy
does a good job overseeing everything on a daily basis
greedy; loves gold more than anything
always the first to locate the treasure hoard on a conquered ship
dreams of being the wealthiest man in the world and thinks piracy is the quickest way to achieving that
everything he does is for his own gain; the crew to him is just another means of aiding him in the bigger scheme
takes care of yukhei the most bc he thinks that kid is their best asset in battles; ppl mistake it for affection but kun would drop him in a heartbeat for even the tiniest materialistic gain
loves rum
JENO: Sailing Master of The Black Pearl
the kindest & most thoughtful boy
very good-looking (his beauty is famous across all the seas; even mermaids fall for his allure)
childhood friends with jaemin; misses him but doesn’t dare to say anything bc if ten ever finds out, jaemin will likely die just so ten can see jeno’s reaction for his own entertainment
not very fond of his captain
only joined the crew bc ten saved him years ago from nearly getting his hand chopped off for stealing (“now, boy, i need me a crew, so what do you say? join me and i’ll consider your debts paid”)
separated from jaemin due to that but fate has her own way and now they’re enemies on sea (he’s not sure if he’s thankful or angry)
has a natural affinity for directions at sea despite having been a parisian street rat his whole life
YUKHEI: Master Gunner of The Black Pearl
epitome of the ruggedly handsome pirate™
crazy fucking bastard
doesn’t know what holding back means
blasts cannons like there’s no tomorrow every time the black pearl engages in battle
loves joking around with the crew
says he adores & would die for everyone but no one knows if he rly ever means it
so reckless w everything he does that it’s a feat he’s still alive
drinks a lot but rarely gets drunk
honestly just wants to live life to the fullest
that’s why he loves being a pirate!! nothing else can give him the same dizzying rush of being alive, knowing he’s always on the verge of death
huge womanizer... always gone the moment they dock, just like ten
JUNGWOO: Surgeon of The Black Pearl
shy & quiet & seemingly innocent
but no one knows of all the shit he’s done in secret to get to where he is today
obviously he’s darker than he comes off as if he’s survived for this long on the sea
ppl always want to protect him and he goes along with it bc false impression is his favorite weapon
so tbh he’s as good of a liar as ten is
pretends to act like an airhead but is acutely perceptive to everyone and everything around him at all times
a highly skilled surgeon; was trained as a pirate doctor’s apprentice since v young
+++
+++
MARK: Captain of The Flying Dutchman
cut his own heart out and locked it away; no one knows where it is or dare to ask
cursed with the ship; can never make port and is doomed to sail the seas for eternity
acts cruel and merciless but is deep down very sensitive
ppl say no one knows love like he has known love
self-destructive, moody
lone wolf; pushes everyone away but somehow his crew is unshakably devoted to him
superior swordsman; second only to ten and taeyong
controls the kraken; the entire sea is envious of him for that
RENJUN: Quartermaster of The Flying Dutchman
ex-british commodore
was so so devoted to great britain like literally exemplar pawn of the empire; would’ve died for his queen with zero hesitation
drawn to ppl who are better than him
which is why he was enthralled by mark during one great battle bt the british navy & the flying dutchman
and then promptly abandoned everything he ever stood for just to follow this boy
has a pride complex where he simultaneously pines after & wants to kill those who’ve bested him
very good with guns & pistols
YUTA: Boatswain of The Flying Dutchman
loves being a ghost-pirate; he was made for the undead life
had an intense affair with sicheng from years ago but was betrayed and nearly hanged for piracy
so now he’s bent on revenge (but some fucked-up part of him is still in love with sicheng) (he’ll never admit it though)
tongue sharper than ten’s bc he always speaks with the intention to hurt
very manipulative
holds grudges
joined the flying dutchman bc it’s the most feared ship on the seven seas & he thinks it’s his best chance at finding & killing those he’s been wronged by (rn primarily sicheng)
despite everything he’s p loyal to mark bc there’s something about cutting one’s own heart out that intrigues him to no end
CHENLE: Sailing Master of The Flying Dutchman
navigates the ship to various locations to collect sailors who died at sea & ferry their souls to the next world
good judgements when it comes to sailing
often climbs onto the crow’s nest to stargaze or watching the rising sun bc they’re the only things that calm him
absolutely devoted to mark bc mark plucked him out of an abusive shanghai orphanage & basically saved his life
has a dark side but is generally a sweet boy
confides in renjun a lot bc he trusts him the most
DONGHYUCK: Master Gunner of The Flying Dutchman
would die for mark in a heartbeat
he’s in love with his captain? maybe?
rude/sarcastic little shit
jack of all trades; very smart but puts 20% effort into everything
disobedient as fuck bc he wants to get a rise out of mark but has never succeeded
sunshine boy on the surface but won’t bat an eyelash when spilling blood
gets a sadistic kick out of firing cannons and pistols
likes playing games with their captives/hostages
good at telling jokes & stories but everyone finds him annoying
JISUNG: Powder Monkey of The Flying Dutchman
suspicious of everything & doesn’t trust anyone
bad at managing emotions & relationships (his captain can relate)
a quick learner; can honestly take over any position on the ship if he wants to
gets along well with chenle but isn’t super close w anyone
his mother tossed him overboard at birth w the intention to drown him but mark saved him by chance
yuta jokes that mark only picked him out of the water bc he didn’t want to ferry another dead soul
he considers his life to be mark’s; 100% at his captain’s disposal
excellent fighter despite being so young

Sorry for this XD, but 1, 4, 9, 11, 26 and 27 for the salty ask? If it's not too much, of course
Don't say sorry! 😁 Thanks for the ask Nonny and apologies for the delay.
I must caution you, the post is going to be long and and there's too much salt in my responses for even me to handle.
1. OTP in fandom that you just do not get.
IDK I most don't give much of a thought to OTPs that I don't get. Like that is the nature of any fandom, that you can see potential for ships even without a say-so from canon.
What I really don't get is the absurd double standards that I see sometimes - how some fans will pull down other LIs/characters to make a favourite look good, how some LIs will be nitpicked to high hell while others can say the grossest things and not be judged. How one character can be judged for the same thing we will admire in another (I'll get to this later).
It's weird, considering the app literally allows you to choose who you will fall for (unless you're wlw or like a character that's a person of colour in a majority-white cast, in which case they will dangle scraps in front of you once every ten chapters, I suppose). You don't need to trash one LI to justify your choice of another. They're there. Stop tearing down an LI while deliberately tagging the character's tag and ship tags for your notes. Go generate (and promote) content for your own ships and characters instead.
4. A personal NOTP? Are they considered an OTP in the fandom?
Hana x Madeleine. Fortunately, lots of people had plenty of problems with this pair and the way it was written in Book 3. The narrative was subtly pushing that ship over the course of Book 3, but the backlash was strong enough that they got Madeleine to issue an apology for her bullying in the epilogue instead (I doubt they even remember the chocolate allergy scene, given that the MC acts like this information is brand new).
It still left a bad taste in my mouth, because it showed me how little the writers cared for Hana as a character, but at least the fandom made sure it didn't become a ship.
9. Most Disliked Character(s):
Hoo boy. I have a freaking list. Besides the really really obvious ones:
• Drake Walker: has way more privilege than he knows what to do with. Narrative acts like he is the Voice of the Commoner...well. I feel sorry for the commoners that don't get to practically live in court without having to change their attire or yap all day about steak, burgers and whiskey. And whose sisters don't have friends that will fleece their entire ancestral house's already-plummeting finances to keep her house running while her brother trash-talks the same friend in Book 1.
• Damien Nazario: is a hypocrite. That is all.
• Constantine: Almost every apology of his has to come punctuated with an excuse. Even if it involves orchestrating sexual assault.
• Madeleine (TRR) and Mallory (RoE): The demonic duo of People PB Wants So Desperately For Me To Forgive™. Without them even having to earn that forgiveness, too (Nana deserves to be on this list too, except the question of forgiveness doesn't even arise when it comes to her. She is worshipped in this series!). I see a small step towards change in D&D Book 2 with Lady Grandmother, but only time will tell if they will actually execute the "will never forgive you" route properly.
• Penelope: is so, so fucking entitled I just can't. I understood how her condition, and manipulation from people like Constantine and Bastien, got her to the point where she would be ready to harm someone. But I can't for the life of me understand how she can forget this so easily after the tea party.
I was hoping for a redemption arc where Penelope recognizes what she's done and unconditionally tries to make amends in Book 3, but that never happened. There was not a single reference in Book 3 to the harm she did you in Book 1. We had to do an immense amount of coddling to convince her to come for the wedding, and there were consequences if you didn't call her your "best friend" or support her demands. The narrative has Drake Walker...Drake "Ambassadors Go To Dangerous Areas, Lady Kiara (So Get Over It)" Freaking Walker...reassure Penelope in a way that Kiara never gets from anyone in the group, and she suffered a knife attack. Ezekiel is literally created out of thin air as a reward for her.
Why does she need a reward again? Who knows.
• Ajay: Didn't apologize.
11. Unpopular Character that You Like that Fandom Doesn't.
(This is going to be loooong. I'm not sorry. This rant has been really, really building up. It's like a dam).
Kiara. It's popular to sorta kinda like her now, but back when she started showing feelings for Drake she got a lot of hate...hate that I feel bled into the treatment she got in the third book.
It took me a while to warm up to Kiara, but I think what did it for me was her friendship with Penelope. She was protective and supportive, even though she lacked an understanding of what Penelope was going through. I was even more pleasantly surprised when she spoke about her bond with Savannah. There was a warmth and a sweetness about Kiara in Book 2 that we didn't see much of in Book 1 and she slowly won me over. When they spoke about her injuries in Book 3, I was looking forward to seeing that story explored.
I will always maintain that Kiara in Book 3 is what happens when both the writing team and the louder, more vocal portion of the fandom are heartless towards a particular character. Heartless is a heavy word, and a word I don't want to be using willy-nilly, but I've seen enough to come to that conclusion in this case.
Kiara was often called an opportunist and a host of other names in the fandom for not supporting the MC through the scandal. Except that we all forget she never promised anything beyond supporting your claim to being picked as future Queen. She tells you straight off the bat in Book 1 that she is looking for allies and not friends (guess who is often admired for that mindset? Madeleine...well, until she harms Hana for flimsy reasons). Meanwhile we have Penelope being all adorable and happy and congratulating you knowing that you're going to be slut-shamed, humiliated and dragged out of court for a scandal she helped generate. Kiara on the other hand was honest. She wanted a job in the ministry and a bomb married life while she was at it. I'd rather have an ambitious (but won't abuse her power like Madeleine does) Kiara in my corner than a person who lies to my face about supporting me, does little more to help than just tell me who her boss was, then expects me to call her my best friend later.
Kiara had to only look at and flirt with Drake for people to hate on her. Meanwhile Olivia could spring an unwanted kiss on Liam in public, and the fandom would still be blaming Liam for not loving her back. In regular fandom content Kiara was mocked and sometimes suspected of having an illicit affair with Drake, in fanfic that featured her she was often either villainized, or written as the "other woman". Which is okay - fanfic is your own personal sandbox, after all - but it does highlight a pattern.
In canon...Kiara was made a survivor of a terrorist attack and nobody cared. Not the MC, not the country's king, not her closest friends, not the man who got injured at the same ball. It was bad enough that her parents were considering leaving the goddamn country (they should have). She was ignored in her own estate. The MC speaks to her not with sympathy and reassurances, but instead reminds her of her 'duty' and pressurizes her. (@callmetippytumbles illustrates this amazingly in her ask here, having Liam say "have a apple and buck up for Cordonia". No lie there. No lie there at all). All the 'sympathy' goes to a brother who has absolutely nothing to do with court.
She was suspected and interrogated at Lythikos. The MC has the option to be dismissive and to minimize - by labelling her "not as driven" - as Kiara literally pours her heart out about her trauma. Sample this:
(Ngl folks. Reading this was really, really triggering for me. I know exactly what it feels like to have my trauma dismissed like this. It doesn't feel great. Fuck you MC. Fuck you Drake. Fuck you TRR writers)
There are no consequences for doing this to her, btw. She still returns and she still fights at the boutique and she'll still speak very positively about you to her mother. I imagine if Joelle found out the truth of how the group really treated her daughter, she'd verbally destroy them and never support the kingdom again. And she'd be right not to.
On its own that scenario looks bad enough already, but when you hold it up next to how we treat the other ladies? Pure, stinking trash:
Madeleine: A diamond scene to console and encourage her, and all the right options are meant to support her to her parents. If you don't succeed in making her parents understand what she wants, you lose out on their support. There are consequences.
Penelope: A diamond scene to comfort and reassure her that they will not be like Madeleine. Immense coddling from the group. If you don't call her your best friend or altogether be nice and supportive to her, that negatively impacts the way Landon responds to you. AND I have heard that if her parents don't believe Penelope is safe with you, she doesn't even join the tour. There are consequences.
Kiara: No diamond scenes to even figure out how she is or what she thinks. A one-minute scene to convince (emotionally blackmail, actually) her to "do your duty", which will happen no matter which option, then a diamond option for her brother...who exists only because they want to give Penelope a reward for something I still cannot fathom. Her brother's response depends on his own issues and the presence of Penelope, and Hakim and Joelle's depend on what you do at the Festival. Kiara's situation of being an attack victim should have warranted the kind of coddling Penelope felt entitled to, yet when it comes right down to it her plight matters to literally no one.
In Lythikos no special diamond scenes for her either, just an interrogation. While we can choose to view Kiara as innocent in Chapter 11, her leaving is branded "suspicious" by both Drake and the MC by default the next chapter, and Maxwell literally says (disappointment writ large on his face) "jeez, that's one suspect off our list" after we're done. We go to her pretending to be her well-wishers, but in reality we're interrogating a traumatized woman, and not even ashamed when she trusts our untrustworthy asses with her secret.
You get the option to forget what happened to her (for which she rightfully slams you). You get the option to be a trauma-minimizing pile of steaming fecal matter (for which she doesn't slam you, even though she should). No matter what, Drake is your puppet and will agree with you, and you get away with all this. Drake stands there and minimizes her experiences with you, and shows zero remorse for putting an attack victim in that situation.
Like, it's actually quite shameful the more you think about it. Kiara was interrogated. After two traumatic experiences that at the very least should have her questioning whether we are worth her support at all. In a scenario that any fool would realise was at least scary to her if not altogether traumatizing. Madeleine and Penelope feel entitled to good treatment, Kiara has to make do with the crumbs we throw at her. She is never given a chance to speak of this as problematic, and the group never gets truly called out on their bullshit.
Even if you do pick the absolute nicest options...the fact remains that the MC, Duchess of Valtoria (and possible future Queen) and her group of influential friends, ignored the concerns a person who was badly injured at their event, pressurized her into showing support for them, didn't do jackshit to ensure her safety, suspected and questioned her when she rightfully withdrew public support, and dishonestly interrogated this traumatized woman, while still keeping the expectation that she support them. All without earning a shred of that support. They felt zero remorse, every last one of them, for putting her in that position.
Kiara not getting much attention isn't exactly a surprise. She has always been given the least focus among the ladies of the court and Book 3 wouldn't have been an exception...if they hadn't made her a victim of a terrorist attack!! Once they placed Kiara in that position, she deserved to have her concerns addressed, and addressed properly. What happened to her was a highlight of the failure of the security system at the palace and Royal Court, and to have that ignored while we had all the time in the world to address Madeleine's parents' petty family squabbles was disgusting. That there are absolutely no consequences for doing this to Kiara, while there are for not attending to Penelope or Madeleine's concerns, and it all ends with Kiara praising us to her mother, is disgusting. That the writers were more busy trying to backtrack on Driara and make the ship impossible to happen in canon, than on focusing on Kiara's own story in her own estate, is disgusting. And I cannot ignore that the latter decision sprung in a large part from the hate the fandom was spewing on Kiara for most of Book 2. The writers wouldn't have dared to do such a thing to Penelope, and it was clearly because there would be a backlash. They knew they could get away with insensitive writing for Kiara easier than they would with Penelope - and they did.
The other thing is this. Back in Books 2 and 3, loads of people in the fandom used to aggressively ship Liam and Olivia (to the point where he would be blamed for not returning her affections). Loads of people would also find excuses to hate on Kiara once she began to show she liked Drake. Nowadays, it's popular to state that "Olivia deserves better" (I'd be inclined to agree if it weren't for the way that argument is often framed. She deserves a man who loves her completely) - again, in a way that blames Liam for not returning her affections.
Yet, when people speak of Kiara's feelings being one-sided? Little to no blame for Drake there, even though he was rude or dismissive to her more than once (for me, personally, Lythikos was the last straw). Hardly a handful would say "Kiara deserves better than Drake". I can bet if Liam treated Olivia even half as poorly as Drake behaved with Kiara, we'd be bashing that man to the high heavens. I guess it's because it's Kiara who is the recipient of this kind of treatment that it matters to so few. I shouldn't be surprised.
26. Most shippable character?
Hayden xD Mostly because they're so much fun to customize, yet there's a very strong inner core there that does not change and that grounds the character.
27. Least shippable character?
I don't know. Nana?

The Galaxies on Our Skin Chapter 16 Part 1
Words: 921
~~ 3 days after the prison escape
“Jisung, come on, stop sulking and be a leader,” Hyunjin says. “It’s been three fucking days.”
“Hyunjin will you let up?” Changbin asks. “He just lost his sister.”
“I know, but he’s supposed to be a king and kings don’t get to mourn like others.” Hyunjin turns back to Jisung. “So get off your ass and tell us were the damn cure is.”
“He’s not supposed to be a king, he never was. He was suppose to be an advisor to the queen and general. Now shut up and let him mourn.” Changbin gets up ready to forcibly take Hyunjin to another room. Felix comes over with a plate of food and sits next to Jisung.
“Hyunjin, I remember how you were when Jinyoung had to leave. You wouldn’t talk to anyone for weeks,” Felix says. “Let him be human for once instead of a former prince on the run.”
“Don’t you dare bring Jinyoung into this.” Hyunjin could feel the tears forming. “This is nothing like that.”
“How? How is this nothing like that? Is it because Jisung was closer to Minsun? Or maybe that they had both been outcast and only had each other for most of their lives? Maybe it’s the fact that Jinyoung gave you a choice to come with him while Minsun didn’t. Or maybe you’re just a selfish asshole who can read minds!” Felix had gently put the plate in front of Jisung before yelling at Hyunjin. “You of all people should be able to tell how hurt he is but you choose to ignore it because you think that the people of the royal family are supposed to be heartless robots all because you want to find the damn cure. Well fuck the cure.”
Minho watched from the doorway as the four refugees on their ship fought amongst themselves. He watched as Changbin had to hold Felix back so Hyunjin wouldn’t get hurt. He saw as Jisung reached out for Felix’s hand before Felix could throw the growing ball of light at Hyunjin. He saw as the former prince came out of his shell long enough to calm his friend. Minho smiled at the small gesture.
Felix could feel tears sliding down his cheeks but he couldn’t register that he was crying. Why was he crying? He wasn’t close to Minsun so why was he so affected by her now? His anger dissipated to nothing leaving him numb. He stood there with Jisung’s hand in his and Changbin trying to get him to sit down. He couldn’t move and just stood there staring at the wall behind Hyunjin. Why did he feel this way? He barely heard as Hyunjin was called to the bridge, barely saw as Hyunjin turned and left the room. He couldn’t even feel as Changbin pulled him to their shared bed and began singing to him. The all too familiar tune fell on deaf ears as Felix continued silently crying over the princess.
Jisung curled further into himself. He’s just causing everyone to fight. It should have been him to be left behind. They would have been much better off with Minsun. She was always a much better leader, a much better fighter. Jisung was just the screw up of the two. He couldn’t even keep a simple promise let alone rule the Union. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up just enough to see the red marks on the hand. He knew it was Minho from those marks.
“You should eat something. It doesn’t help to be hungry while you’re mourning,” Minho says. “I may not have known who Minsun was but I’m sure she wouldn’t want you to starve yourself.”
Jisung makes no move to eat the food Felix had brought over before the fight. He feels the bed sink a bit as Minho sits next to him.
“I know I can’t feel how you feel since I still have Chan and Woojin after the blood plague but I can tell you I lost a close friend a few months ago. He was consumed by his power in my arms on this ship. Everyone mourns differently and the closer you are to someone the more it hurts to lose them.” Minho smiles as Jisung leans over and puts his head on Minho’s shoulder. It was the most response anyone had gotten out of him in the last three days which meant progress was being made. Minho offers a hand which Jisung takes and starts playing with his fingers.
“Sunnie was all I had left.” Jisung mumbles. He had stopped crying for a bit but felt the tears welling up again. Minho being next to him helped. He could pretend Minho was Minsun for a bit while he played with the older boys fingers. Could pretend the marks belonged to Minsun before they had been arrested.
“Did she have a power?” Minho asks. He watches as Jisung begins to cry again. He wipes the tears away for the younger boy and ruffles his hair a bit.
“Same as yours,” Jisung says. His voice is small and barely audible but Minho knows how hard it must be to speak for him. Minho realizes how hard it must be for Jisung to be right next to him. If Minsun had the same power as him then Jisung not seeing his face must bring back memories. Maybe it was comforting, though. Maybe Jisung had opened up to him because he shared Minsun’s marks.
