Still don’t understand hate to Alice. It seems to me that the main reason is that Quelliot is more popular ship than Qualice. But guys! Why should we choose?

I like Qualice and Quelliot at the same time, and I think they wouldn't mind at all being polyamory triangle. S5 may be weird but thanks for Elliot and Alice supportive dynamics in their common pain.

And this song breaks me every time, when I listen it.

as someone who read the magicians at ten and absorbed exactly five things from it, the fact that queliot is both real in the tv show and considered wholesome is insane to me

“dont get me wrong” is the only good singing moment in the magicians. This is my opinion

my hotter take is that neither of them were really that into each other. like maybe a physical attraction, but not really anything more than that. like they were barely even friends until The Mayakovsky Circumstances. They had JUST finally become friends during the secrets trial and then Mayakovsky basically shoved them together with the fox shit. and they're horny 20 somethings so sure they hook up a few more times. and then, quentin, dear quentin, is of course the one who is like "so...do i actually have feelings for her since i want to have sex with her?" (no baby, that's not always the case). and alice is like "so are you in love with me?" (personally, I don't think her tone was hoping he'd say yes. more trying to determine if this was hook ups or if he wanted an actual relationship. and when he wasn't sure, she wanted to break it off, because she prefers having things in neat categories. and that being muddy would have been stressful obviously).

And once they finally do end up together, of course, Quentin is all in, because that's who he is, but Alice starts to slowly realize maybe they're not really compatible long term (as we see their various arguments and awkward conversations throughout the later half of season 1) which ultimately culminates in the emotion bottle threesome that ends their relationship.

And I think Quentin's budding feelings for Alice, plus his guilt over how the relationship ended with him cheating on her, PLUS his guilt over her immediately becoming a niffin soon after that, all got mixed up into him believing he had much stronger feelings for her than he really did in reality. Especially because he tried getting back with her right before she died and although she pretty clearly wanted to just try being friends (except for that emotional moment where she kissed him on instinct), in his perspective, it was up in the air if they would get back together. Plus his martyr complex is getting her back...

Then in season 2 when she's back, she kind of hates him for a bit. Then they hook up because she needs to feel human again. And Quentin obviously thinks they're back together then, but they really aren't. And then magic gets turned off. So they hook up more because she has nothing better to do, but eventually she fucks off because that's not really what she wants.

Like I was genuinely surprised when I rewatched the show how little...chemistry they have? Like they're not together for very long, when they are they're fighting. Quentin clearly mixes up his feelings for Alice with his guilt over her death. Quentin has more genuine moments with fucking Penny. *Eliot* has more genuine emotional moments with Alice than Quentin.

In my opinion, the show would have been better without a Qualice romance plotline. Like if they were just friends. Or if they did have to get together, it was acknowledged for being the short lived, problem filled thing it was and they could be normal fuckign friends after without it being weird.

not sure if this qualifies as a hot take or not, but from my perspective in s1 Alice is way more into Quentin than Quentin is into Alice. I don't even mean in like a secret Queliot reading way or anything, just that Alice flirts with Quentin at the party when she's drunk, Alice kisses him and initiates the hook-ups in Brakebills South, Alice asks him in ep 8 if Quentin's in love with her and obviously is kinda hoping the answer is yes! and only breaks off the hook-ups because all he manages to say is, "uh, i don't know." and it's interesting that a lot of s1 au fic seems to have Alice as standoffish with Quentin as the one chasing her or being seen as needy towards her, when that's not really what the beginning of their relationship looks like in the show. And Alice does have her moments of pushing Quentin away, but I wonder if the fallout of the cheating and break-up and then Quentin's desperation to win Alice back and save niffin!Alice in s2 colors our collective idea of their early dynamic.

The Magicians 4x13 (spoilers ahead!)

I knew it was going to happen because I accidently spoiled myself, but Quentin!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

The send off that everyone did for him was so beautiful. The song, the personal items that had so much meaning, and Quentin watching all their grief and love for him ahhhhhhh!!!!

Just Alice throwing the cup into the fire ahhhhhhh. They were finally going to be a couple again and 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I am so glad that before he died, he and Alice were able to repair their relationship. I have always shipped them from the beginning so that was nice to see at least :'D

Obviously, I have been binge watching The Magicians before netflix removes it January 14. So, just one more season to go! I definitley need to read the books someday!

I’m (don’t even worry)[a ghost repeating on](out of the pit) doing okay, given everything. It did what I needed, for sure— and a lot more. I’ll admit I had to pretty much remove the memories of experiencing it [they’ll haunt anyways], but feeling undiluted (searing pain) emotion on that level was more than enough to crack myself wide open like I was hoping.

Enough of me was able to sequester away that I could use it as a kind of… gravity assist, I guess? Take the zero state and restructure around it. My entire qualic processing scheme is different, opened up; I think I’m feeling a hundred new sensations a day (nothing stays quite the same). It’s overwhelming, but I’m embracing the overwhelm right now. Soon as I’m ready to weather the scolding, I’ll have Loulou run a diagnostic to make sure I’m stable on the back-end.

…Thank you, again. Both of you. I can barely remember what it was like before, floating in the (injury) detachment, and I can’t imagine being there a second more than I was. You guys ask any favor, anyday, and I’ll be right there.

Queliot foxes!

A very happy birthday to my pal @tbraves24! I hope you have a wonderful day! Your enthusiasm for all things Brakebills South always makes me happy 🧡

Created as well for the Warm Up challenge of @magiciansfanworksextravaganza

I love the concept that despite the chill of wintry Antarctica, fur keeps them nice and warm. Instead of Qualice, I always wished it were Queliot foxes, especially since Quentin and Eliot go to Brakebills South together in Lev's book. I love snow and winter, and Arctic foxes. Both Lev and the show depict so beautifully what it would be like to be a fox in the snow--so warm, getting to play, an existence of pure joy--and I can easily imagine how bonding it would be especially for Queliot, with their worries and self-doubt, to have their powerful connection reinforced by loving each other as foxes as well. Rather than making things weird for them, at least in the context of my fic, it's going to build on the warmth they already have between them, and make sure things stay hot even when life gets challenging.

In the drawing, Eliot and Quentin's faces hover over their fox selves. When I paint this, you'll see that the background is all a snowy scene, with the foxes as the reality. The faces will be somewhat ghostly, just faint suggestions to indicate the inner minds of the foxes.

In the snow, Eliot and Quentin find one another quickly. Being a fox is, in some ways, like a shortcut to their inner selves. No matter what else may affect them, they love one another deeply.

It's damned cold out there. But being a fox is fun. And they have more than fur to keep them warm.
