[MMD Crossover] The Order of Darkness (KHS Ver)
Tumblr media
"Behold! The hell I unleashed upon you!" - Kayla Amihan (as Titan Shang Tsung)
Hey, guys! Here's another pic I made that is based on one of the most chaotic chapters in Mortal Kombat 1: Armageddon! In here, like the original, this version of the Order of Darkness was— instead of Titan Shang Tsung —assembled by Titaness Kayla Amihan in order to conquer the multiverse and destroy the Union of Light. This version of the Order of Darkness included evil counterparts of Shroomy (in his Shroominator body), Saiko (in her old body graphics), Meggy Spletzer (in her Inkling form), Sunset Shimmer, Bob Bobowski (as Rapper Bob), Glamrock Freddy and other characters, who were considered heroes in previous timelines.
Enjoy!
CREDITS Special thanks to Katherine-1208 for the TDA Hoodie Rin model, XenoAisam for the Rokiahi and Nurani models, rocketboy3005 for the Mutation model, Chikunyako for the Einshine model, the Glitch Productions team for the SMG4 Original Characters model pack and the SMG4 Revelations model pack, C_ART and MrTheWizard for the Hal Monitor fan model, and many others for the TF2, Half-Life 2, Garry's Mod, and Quake II models. All characters belong to their respective owners. • Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2, ©Valve • Minecraft, ©Microsoft • MicroVolts, ©SK imedia and Rock Hippo Productions • Quake II, ©id Software and Activision • SMG4, ©SMG4 and Glitch Productions • Mortal Kombat 1, ©WB Games and NetherRealm Studios

Something i don't think i've posted here was these concept arts for a cancelled Q4 expansion:
From what i heard, they were going to do a lot with exploring the Strogg's background.
In general, some of the designs here are cool.
Not just art, there's even screenshots of models in there too.

some rambley thoughts on quake as a franchise's identity and continuity
the quake franchise is a strange beast in regards to identity. its largely been iterated on the mechanics from the first quake but whatever form that takes will wildly change from game to game. you can clearly see even if it was meant to be a new ip that quake 2s gameplay and design are developed off of how quake 1 plays, whether just becaues of the engine, an id house style that had started developing. whatever you want to call it
but something quake champions and call of the machine for quake 2 bring in regards to continuity is the idea of all of quake existing in the same "multiverse" . a bunch of different worlds connected to each other, sharing connections to lovecraftian dimensions or what have you. that the strogg have some deeper arcane connections to "quake" as a nebulous entity/dimension. that different planes of reality exist whos playable characters in quake champions have reached the 4 dimensions that existed in quake through different means (artificial slipgate for ranger, black hole generator explosion for strogg & peeker etc) (basically just applying narrative cohesion and context for quake 3's arena eternal
as much as multiverses as a concept are a worn out trend thats largely been used recently for endless fanservice (in cases both good and bad), its very much the perfect idea for a franchise like quake, where its entire concept and influences are built around different worlds and universes and planes of reality, but instead of being excuses to have a billion spidersmen or to bring back some actor who played some character one time its to provide context for potentially infinite play spaces and level themings (trending towards horror obviously) like a really good example is something like arcane dimensions or to an extent the machinegames quake expansions. theyre presented as vignettes designed by different people with different design styles and themes and content. but provided in context of quake and the start level you reach all them from, it presents the idea that theyre all worlds that could exist in continuity, diifferent realities with their own histories and cultures and magics and technologies. mods in general for quake kind of seem that way to me (probably biased based on my experiencec with quake mods being mostly AC and the MG sets). it could be any of an infinite number of realities that ranger has ended up in and has to fight his way through. id like to hope going forward that whatever game studios end up working on quake in the future keep leaning in that direction. despite only getting one proper game and a mp title, the lovecraft setting feels so much stronger and with so much more potential than the humantiy strogg war we've had across two full games and a mp spinoff. if they even wanted they could do a completely "new" setting and ground it within quakes multiverse if they wanted, though its not what id perfer
it does kind of suck that doom 6 is creeping pretty hard into quakes territory with a more medieval fantasy setting, but in practice it still feels -more- modern doom than quake, and id hope its not a sign that quake is being largely abandoned (id's shooters do trend towards a "house style", even with the new dooms being developed by completely new people, its still following alot of those same design and thematic elements that got codified in the 90s).

Hey Leni, let's make theories about Doom and Quake chronology?
I was thinking.. As we know, the demons invaded the UAC in 2145 and the war raged on for some years. Scott Voss from SMC was born in a Martian Colony in the year 2203, that is, relatively shortly after the first demonic invasion. Would Mars have had a peaceful time after all the chaotic events of Doom (to build safe colonies on Mars)? Do you think the other Doom events are part of the same timeline? or that's impossible? (I know there's controversy, but I want to know your opinion).
Curious to know your thoughts on this! Leis. ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔノ゙
First of all, thank you so much for the question. 😍 I always wanted to be a part of such conversations so this truly means a lot to me. 😍😍😍Second of all, let me establish 2 pathways: what is possible in "natural" circumstances and what i use for my novel and for future followups as a standalone timeline based possibility.
Normal version:
If we take Doom 3 as a closed title along with all the other games/expansions being connected to it, then its fairly obvious to point out, humanity had the time to recover from such losses. Mars City, Phobos labs etc. were lost to the population measures but not in technology. Hidrocon was still there to bring advancement to a whole new level, and im pretty sure they didnt miss out on it even behind the blood soaked history. Over years and maybe after a few high levels of power struggles within the Board they finally got themselves together enough to restart Mars City as an actual human settlement (with a few added advances to make sure nothing comes over again/wont be as deadly as it can be). This also brought the chance as soon as possible to have the city thrive along with other human colonies which in connection meant a new future for our species. Without Mars city there was no continuation and they knew this all too well: sacrificing decades of hard work over fear and paranoia was too much of a luxury to be committed.
In Quake 4's retrospect, im pretty sure Doom 3's events can be considered as canon, even from line to line (if you mind). My philosophy often comes like this in such cases:, "just because people dont talk about it, doesnt mean its not there". From this point, things can be explained even with multiple altitudes: the UAC has gone bankrupt and the secrets have fallen to the grave alongside with it. Or: people over time got to know about the demonic invasion and they live with the truth. Or: the UAC is still there but under a different alias and thanks to this, they are not standing out publicly. Its only a matter of imagination what you can consider as a direct lead to the main story. And this is just one of the examples out of hundreds you can twist in any way you would like for a perfect fitting.
My version:
In my series, things are nothing but grim. After ROE, Earth got attacked not soon after, and the demons started immediately taking over as much as possible (not just the planet, but other colonies and space stations were in great danger). Even if i consider the heroes winning after the years of a brutal, almost annihilating war, humanity still needs an extraordinary amount of time for rebuilding and even more for restarting colonization. The pace is the most important factor in this, however for me its not unimaginable to have a well functioning martian city in the beginning of the 23rd century. Its almost 50 years to spare so its highly unlikely they will lick their wounds for this long. From this on, Quake 4 can be its own very thing, not even mattering if any importance (like the origin of the Strogg or the demonic invasion) has been altered during an alternative timeline.
Fun fact: i consider all Id Tech 4 based games as one big canon where things have different kinds of impacts on each other. Yes, even Prey 2006. 🥰 The differences always start when one game becomes dominant and begins altering other games/storylines. Everything can happen as it is intended but the questions are rather: how many are there (compared to the original) and how much has been changed to allow a proper existence for something new?
Thats the right of the author.

*Ahem*:
Meteos - it only got seven games (the original DS game in 2005, an online game and two mobile versions in 2006 (the online game and one mobile versions were only available in Japan), a Disney-themed retool in 2007, an Xbox-exclusive sequel in 2008, and a now-defunct Korea-exclusive mobile game in 2013). They could do a lot more with the series, like even a Switch remake of the original with some of the other games' content would be cool.
Quake, but specifically the singleplayer ones - Id are only interested in doing more multiplayer Quake games, and it kinda sucks that we probably won't be getting any new singleplayer Quake stuff (not counting the new episodes added in the anniversary remasters). Like I don't even want a followup to Quake I; I'm fine with more Strogg shenanigans, or even making Quake into like an anthology of fast-paced and atmospheric first-person shooters that all take an established genre (Lovecraftian horror in Quake I, "trapped behind enemy lines" war movies in Quake II and the first half of Quake 4, and a "we have a defector from the enemy faction helping us break into their base" in Quake 4's second half) and give them a sci-fi and/or action twist. Like a Quake game that's basically Indiana Jones but in space or Die Hard but it's also Aliens (which I'm just realising is kinda the premise of Attack The Block) would be pretty cool.
Necrovision - I unironically enjoy Necrovision, and it would be cool if it got like. A sequel set during World War II or something, and it reuses the first game's "higher difficulty = worse ending" gimmick, but this time playing on Easy follows on from the first game's good ending and Hard follows on from the bad ending. Like the only other Necrovision game (to my knowledge) is Lost Company, which is a prequel.
Fallout - New Vegas 2 New Vegas 2 New Vegas 2 New-.
YOU! Are granted the power to suddenly own ONE video game franchise, and to hire the best people who have ever worked on it (and/or anyone else you want in on it).
What video game franchise are you rescuing--er, acquiring?

Midnight Gaming: Storming Space Normandy
So I played Quake 2 past midnight, checked socials and found... Streamer Kai Cenat is streaming Bloodborne to try and bring to attention demand for remaster/pc port.
So when I played Quake 1, I mentioned that Quake didnt have as much of a cultural impact as doom did. If people actually read these, this would be one hell of a hot take. Quake was after all from technical standpoint a leap forward for 3d graphics in games, Carmacks work has brought a lot to the table that modern games share a relation with. To suggest it didnt have a cultural impact would be ludicrous. You can see that impact mapped out on this image from wikipedia:
But I didnt say that though, i said that Quake, as a game, didnt have as much of a cultural impact as Doom did.
Doom had bill gates greenscreened on it for an investors meeting, Doom was being ported to devices it shouldnt be possible because of its small size and the love of the meme, people nowadays recognise the pinky and cacaodemon sprites from Doom, you think folks will recognise the shamblr from look alone? Show a zoomer the quake symbol and ask them what it is, then make an appointment with your local retirement home when you're done having your soul hollowed out.
The most that the Quake series has in cultural significance is its multiplayer. 1's mechanic of the player not taking too much damage from explosions including their own helped pioneer rocket-jumping ie shooting an explosive at your own feet and using the force of the explosion to propel yourself. Quake 3 straight up depriotised singleplayer in favour for multiplayer and the most recent Quake game to date has that with a splash of hero shooter. Most folks who have heard of the quake series know it more for its multiplayer then they do the singleplayer. You remember Quake 4? What was your first thought about it, the stroggification scene? Yeah..
Thing is.. while i say Quake 1's game wasnt as significant compared to Dooms, its a lot more than can be said about Quake 2. Be honest, before the remaster... how often did you hear about Quake 2 when discussions about first-person shooters come up? How about classic shooters (boomer shooter)? Not much, i certanly didnt. Most folks seem to forget this game existed, its usually when the Quake series gets brought up that 2 is mentioned. "Aw man Quake was so good, its a classic. And Quake 3, man, I fragged so ma.." "What about Quake 2?" "Oh? Oh yeah Quake 2 that was good...too... yeah...".
Honestly, the RTX port was probably the most recognition Quake 2 got before the remaster, mostly to showcase how bad of an idea it is to put rtx graphics and raytracing to a 90s shooter. Made it look uncanny. But that was then, this is now and now we have a remaster that allows the game to played by more people and thats always a good thing, especially since the remaster is very good.... with one caveat being the lack of addon support similar to Quake 1 and Doom 1 & 2s recent ports. Seriously why?
Anyways playing Quake 2, its certanly a change from the lovecraft vibe to a sci-fi ww2 vibe but the music definatly helps in getting you engaged with the game. The strogg being a sort of forced amalgamation of human meat and hard metal is an interesting enemy to fight and their is a nice variety of them to fight, the big enemies that have that railgun however were very annoying since they can take up to 45 health off you while teasing the power of the railgun that you wont get just yet...ughhh... chaingun is a necessity for them. Thing about the weapons is that, from what i've noticied in my session, is theres quite a few weapons that end up being obsolete as soon as you find their contemporaries. For example, the super shotgun replaces the normal shotgun, the chaingun replaces the machinegun (unless theres weak enemies i wanna mow down without burning too much ammo) and the grenade launcher replaces throwing grenades.
Another change is that you collect power ups to use for later as opposed to using them now, most them being rather situational except for three items, the quad damage (for obvious reasons), the adrenaline (for health) and the compass which is a new thing added for the remaster that spawns some arrows  to lead you to your objective. A very nice quality-of-life change to help keep the player moving forward. Honestly, I enjoyed my session with quake 2 and if you havent played it, get the remaster and you can play it along with the expansions, the new expansion made for this and the n64 version of quake 2.
Ok enough of Quake 2, lets go to news. Bloodborne was a launch title for the playstation 4 and for many people, it was one of their favourite soulslikes. Not me though because i never played it myself and at the time of writing, its not likely i will. Despite Sony porting some games like God of War, Uncharted and Ghost of Tsushima to pc, bloodborne has remained locked to the playstation consoles.
This may change with one streamer Kai Cenat, who has a sizeable audience and has been streaming games like elden ring lately, intending to stream bloodborne with the aim of getting demand for a pc port noticied by Sony and Fromsoft. Time will tell if it will succeed. Link to a pcgamer article covering it right here:
Anyways, im not a professional essayist, i dont always articulate my thoughts well enough but i hope that as I write these, i will improve over time. At the very least, i dont get paid unlike some folks over at ign. You get my bad hot takes freely.
Anyways see you tomorrow, feedback is appreciated. Anons are currently on.

I played Quake 2 as a 7 year old on my grandpa's computer and let me tell you I may not have known what a fetish was but I knew I was obsessed with the strogg in a way that I should not tell my family about. Cut to me as a teenager reading a game review (they were in magazines back then) for Quake 4 and drooling over a detailed description of the stroggofication scene, thinking "God I wish that was me".
Originally I had a point I wanted to make with this but now I'm just thinking about forced cybernetic augmentation and uhhhhhhh when's my turn?

Quake 2 – a notes from country house kwaker
Tumblr media
And I continue to play second Quake. It is a country house time. And, I can say, it is a summer outside. I run with shorts at the streets. And play from time to time in second Quake. And this time, I play more accurate with understanding for myself. And it is not like after a year of break in playing – I forget everything. And I adjust game screen resolution. 1280 x 800 I have. And now, during the game, I see a full screen. And, it is not cut. I see a panel with health and ammo. And a hand of a hero I see good.
Tumblr media
I start to more often to use a cover places. It is about places with covers. Something like a big corner. Now it is a shotgun in action. It is a big gun. And, I am hard to say, how hero takes it in a hands. It is huge. It is, almost, like a rocket launcher. I think. But it is a shotgun. And, you are running out a cover corner and make a shot once or two times. And fast go back behind the corner. And do like this for several times. I use this attitude. Some places, I am more brave and use a grenades. It is a letter G.
Tumblr media
I say it, at the first time, that grenades are cute here, such rounded things. They are like from metal, at first look. Interesting view - spheres. Hero takes them in a hands. A little turn around. And, only after that, – make a throw. It is not at once. But few times it was useful. I make a step out from a tube, and it was a square and a whole three strong enemies. One of them, I hit a little with a grenade. And, after that, I move out from a tube and start to run across the square. And making a final shots from a sub machinegun. But, now a most in use weapon for me - it is a shotgun.
Tumblr media
Now, I am reading with F1 key what to do and what is going on. What I need to do. I am just now, before stroggs reactor. Such a reactor. It is full in fire, as it looks. And it is goal -  to destroy it. For this purpose, it is good to lower pump water cold flow. To make reactor out of work. So new zone, where am I now – it has lots of water. And I need to pull vent, rotate it.
Tumblr media
Later, I was walking here and there in a search for a second vent. But actually, it is required to go at the crates at he same room with vent and jump. And it will be a button. And mission is going next. It is need to back to reactor. And to enter some pump sector.
Tumblr media
Now I am braver. I use for several times a railgun. It works slow, but it is like a sniper rifle. If it makes a hit it hits really good. Several shots, 5 or 4, for most heavy enemies and they are done. For any other – even more less. And, if to make a good shot – it is enough a one hit. There is some purpose to use it here.
Tumblr media
Submachine gun or shotgun are very good against casual enemies. As you make a burst with series – enemies are, already, shaken with animation. And they need a time to get together. As a shock therapy.
Tumblr media
And, you are, already, doing a second burst. Shotgun is more powerful, by the way, but need to make shots one by one. First, second. Two, three shots for several simple enemies. So, some place, they are, again, most first enemies from the start of the game.
Tumblr media
Level architecture – tech and gothic. Rather different. But, made it this way, key architecture is tech and gothic. Style is solid. But, rather, different, in result. Some place I was – it has lots of water.
Tumblr media
Some place are about some medieval gothic like first quake. Somewhere, it is more about a techno base. So, it is about a whole locations. So, right now, I am running a territory connected with pump. And, here I use more often - a railgun. It works like sniper riffle. And, I slow go forward.
Tumblr media
And, I remember, how I was a schoolboy and, so slowly, step by step, I was playing a games. So, I played for 15 min and stop. So, later, I play for 30 min. And, this way, you make your way forward in game. So, it was interesting times, as I can say. So, this manner, I play it, right now. And, I played. I made some different things. And, slowly, make a step forward in second quake.
A note is written in the end of May. It was already a summer weather. While summer is not begins.
Tumblr media
Playing little games. From time to time i like to play videogames. And write about it. Dima Link is making retro videogames, apps, a little of music, write stories, and some retro more.

General Vultun and the Cycrens: Aftershock Lore
General Vultun is basically the main villain alongside Tyras in my story, Aftershock. He is the current leader of the Cyborg group The Cycren Order.
Now the Cycrens as a race are inspired by the faunus from rwby and cyborgs from other media. They were humans who were forced to get cybernetics to survive in the Wasteland, but humanity saw them as freaks and abominations, some claiming that the Cycrens were and will never been truly human.
They then named themselves Cycrens and created the Cycren Order, originally lead by Xander Tervern, who would protect Cycrens and attack hostile humans. They weren kinda like a vigilante group as well as an actual faction to help Cycrens live their lives in peace, and have their own society.
However, Xander was eventually killed in a battle which left Vultun as next in line as general and he changed the Cycren Order a lot. Despite his hatred towards humanity due to what they did to him and his people, he also pities their weaknesses and limitations. He then grew an ideology where he believe that the Cycrens are human 2.0 and if humans are to survive then they must be converted into Cycrens. He also brought a warrior culture and an actual society, as well as a slight honorable code.
The Cycrenisation process was also created which turns humans into Cycrens. They first make the victim asleep, then remove the limbs as well as an eye so they can be replaced with cybernetics. They will remove other parts if needed as well as warp the mind and memories to make them believe that they were always a Cycren. However, Vultun refuses to use this process on children and will not kill them either.
The order is a dictatorship lead by the strongest, however a council known as the Cycren War Council exists to aid Vultun. These comprise with the Order's top commanders and Vultun himself, there they decide future plans, discuss progress and deliever orders. Every single Cycren in the order must be trained in combat, due to their warrior culture Vultun has inplemented.
There code says to not kill or Cycrenise children, don't use extreme methods of torture, do not destroy burial grounds, respect the dead and try not to kill civilians. However, this doesn't stop them from commiting occasional war crimes, such as killing POWs. They also have an extreme punishment for those that either piss Vultun off or have commited sex crimes, slaughtering civilians and hurting children badly. This is where they stay awake during most of the Cycrenisation process, placed at the bottom of the Cycren class system, and are basically slaves who do hard labour or are used as cannon fodder.
After the war with humanity is over, he wants to put all of the survivors in a single settlement where he'll allow them to thrive, but they will be harvested and every month 10 adults are taken and Cycrenised. This settlement will have a puppet leader handpicked by Vultun himself, but he allows the humans to live decent lives because he needs them alive. However, they don't have any weapons so they can not rise up.
Vultun and his Order are inspired by Adam Taurus (His White Fang/Faunus supremacist personality) and the White Fang itself, the strogg from Quake 2 and 4, Cybermen from Doctor who and Mandalorians from Star Wars.
"It's true that I despise humanity, but I also pity them. They are so weak and fragile, where as we have the advantage which places us on the top of the food chain. That is why I believe we are the final step, in human evolution... we are simply superior," - General Vultun to his second in command
