Quaden Bayles' age debated on Twitter as people claim he's 18 and accuse him and his mum of scam, while some defend him

A young Australian boy named Quaden Bayles went viral when his mum shared a video showing him crying and threatening to commit suicide as a result of incessant bullying he's suffered over his dwarfism (read here).  Yarraka Bayles shared the video to raise awareness about bullying and its effect on children. After her video went viral, Quaden, who his mum says is 9 years old, received an outpouring of love from all over the world. American actor Brad Williams, who was born with the same condition as Quaden, raised over 250,000 Dollars for Quaden. Also, Quaden was invited to lead an All-Star Rugby team onto the field for their next match. As the support poured in for Quaden, some social users began claiming Quaden is actually 18 and not a 9-year-old schoolboy as his mother claims. They shared old photos from his Instagram account apparently showing Quaden holding up wads of cash and wearing expensive clothes. They also added that his now-deleted captions on Instagram allegedly stated his age was 18.

This led to confusion as some wondered if they have been scammed. However, supporters of Quaden took to Twitter to trend the hashtag #HeIs9 and  #IStandWithQuaden. Some shared photos and videos to prove Quaden is actually 9. Others pointed out that his mother never said they were suffering and in need of money but only said he was a victim of bullying, and as such couldn't have been trying to scam people of their money. Following the scam allegations, Brad Williams who raised money for Quaden tweeted: "The love you have shown is unbelievable. Thank you! Money donated will not be wasted! We have a team of people making sure everything is completely legitimate. We thank you for your generosity and patience while we make sure all this is done the right way."

So che questo è un canale dedicato ai film - ma non potevo non farlo. Io sono una persona che raramente sta zitta quando legge la notizia di un’ingiustizia. Nella vita di tutti i giorni, sono più brava a difendere gli altri che me, ma questa è un’altra storia. Stavo scorrendo la home di Facebook quando incappo casualmente in un articolo che riguarda una picccola creatura di nove anni- tra l’altro tenerissima, Quaden Bayles. L’articolo è di Fanpage.it: “Bullizzato a scuola, a 9 anni minaccia di uccidersi: la sua squadra del cuore lo invita in campo” (leggetevelo se volete). Allora, ho subito pensato: Ma chi ci dice di essere stronzi?  Ci hanno pagato per farlo? Io non tollero la cattiveria e l’insulsaggine da parte di nessuno! Siamo noi che dovremmo essere garanti della salute dei più piccoli, e invece costruiamo una società con i soli mattoni dell’odio, dell’ignoranza e della rabbia immotivata: i due terzi del mondo dei bambini non sa nemmmeno cosa significhi un tozzo di pane, un po’ di acqua pulita! Qui invece, in gran parte dell’Occidente, siamo stati tutti/tutte/tutt* a turno (anche io in primis) vittime di bullismo da parte di persone malate con famiglie malate, sì, malate di assenza di sentimenti. Abbiamo rischiato anche noi di ammalarci. Sì, la malinconia e l’assenza di entusiasmo al mattino sono dei seri indici di cattiva salute, questo lo so bene, lo ricordo bene. Ma come mai il mondo non funziona, o meglio, funziona male? Se solo avessimo la stessa faccia tosta, tenacia e costanza che abbiamo nel lamentarci nel fare invece delle azioni concrete! La bellezza si costruisce, e per farlo, ci vuole coraggio, perché richiede fatica e sforzo, fiducia, ricerca della luce sempre, anche nei sentieri più tortuosi (come quelli che la vita quotidianamente ci pone davanti). Se il mondo va male, è colpa innanzitutto di un mondo adulto che si dimostra ancora poco maturo e incline rispetto ai grandi compiti che ha verso l’umanità tutta [...] Sto iniziando a interrogarmi seriamente su che mondo voglio contribuire a costruire, dal momento che da poco sono entrata nel mondo degli adulti, non sono più una sedicenne, ormai. E anche io ho, avrò delle piccole responsabilità in questo. Ho deciso di intraprendere un percorso di studi nel campo sanitario perché voglio aiutare le persone nei loro momenti più bui: in fondo li attraversiamo tutti. Ne sono fiera. Se, al giorno d’oggi ci sono ancora tanti, troppi bambini e adolescenti vittime di bullismo per una malattia che altera l’aspetto somatico... beh, vorrei ricordare a tanta gente che non esistono solo le malattie che si vedono! Perciò... chi punta il dito non si sentisse sano, perché anche quella (puntare il dito) è una manifestazione, un sintomo di seri problemi di carattere psicologico e sociale! Ma il mio disprezzo più grande, come sempre, va ai genitori di questi individui, di questi ragazzini/bambini bulli: non è un caso che alcuni abbiano figli solari e altri ne abbiano di rabbiosi... il disprezzo è un codice che si impara in famiglia! Qualche domandina (domandona) urgerebbe porsela... Una persona ha un aspetto oppure un modo di fare ai nostri occhi atipico? Siamo tutti atipici, se ci osserviamo veramente... la gente si attacca ai falsi miti, agli ideali estetici a ogni costo (anche a costo del cinismo più puro), si attacca a una finta perfezione, a Barbie e Ken perchè non sa come vivere: è questa la verità! 

Bene, messaggio per voi: se avete deciso di essere falsi come le bambole (tanto bambole non diventate comunque, si diventa solo dei pessimi umani) fate pure, accomodatevi, ma non rompete i coglioni alla gente, quella vera, quella che vive con i piedi per terra, nel mondo reale e che, soprattutto, affronta ogni giorno problemi reali! Se avete deciso di inseguire mondi astratti di finta bellezza e di sole apparenze, siete pregati di non insegnare anche ai vostri figli a farlo, perché privare un bambino di empatia e di affetto verso i suoi piccoli coetanei è un crimine! Dopotutto, si sa che la perfezione non esiste, dai: sono millenni che questo ideale - o almeno, così come ce lo si immagina comunemente - delude in quanto non lo raggiunge mai nessuno! Ma forse c’è un tipo di straordinarietà, forse più intenso, che nessuna sindrome, nessun orientamento politico o sessuale può arrestare: l’Originalità. È è il modo di ognuno di nuotare, di avanzare verso la propria meta attraversando il mare dei piccoli grandi problemi. E, davvero, non importa nè deve urtare la mia sensibilità 

se c’è chi la raggiunge con lo stile libero, chi con quello a rana, o a delfino, l’importante è inseguire la gioia, senza alterarsi. Come dice la canzone di Elisa: <<A modo tuo>>.
