I hadn’t done a comic since my days at RISD. Even just a few pages was really nerve wracking and required me to rewire my process. But I am so glad I participated in Hana Doki Kira volume 2! Here are a few panels from my 5 page comic featured in the anthology. Hana Doki Kira is an anthology of comics and illustrations celebrating the shoujo genre. Android/Cyborg Love is Queer because you have the multifaceted nature of existing in a state of becoming (i.e. you construct your self, the way you interact with the world, the way the world engages you, and how you love) while others attempt to deconstruct and build you in their own images. They attempt to make you  and your means of love illegal, immoral, and impossible. You are a constructed being - a cyborg - that is both self-made for your own well-being and created by others to reinforce their illusions of control. Your love is entrenched in potentiality that transgresses ‘standards’ and moves society to embrace the possibility, it is queer; it is prophetic; it is sankofic; it is futuristic.

must read. i have to say i was a little bit thrown off by the title and the beginning of the article. but the author is right, "Identifying as a person of color in solidarity with other people of color says 'hey, my people have been oppressed by White people, maybe in a different time and space than your people, but we can work in solidarity.' The identification needs to carry some degree of humility, and a deeper commitment to allyship . The POC umbrella is not an excuse to disavow the ways we benefit from various racial structures and sit idly by as our communities reap advantages from racism towards other people of color." Within our POC identities and struggles, we need to acknowledge the different experiences of our brothers and sisters.
