Vocabulary list for writers: EXPLANATION
📚✍️ Looking to spice up the way you explain your explanations? Check out these cool options!
List summary: Account, accountancy, aide-mémoire, alibi, amplification, analysis, anatomising (also spelled anatomizing), annotation, apologia, argument, assay, assessment, breakdown, briefing, caveat, clarification, commentary, confession, construction, contextualisation (also spelled contextualization), and counsel.
💭 Uhh, why this topic in particular? 🤔
⠀
You see, we’ll be doing a lot of explaining, discussing, analysing, surmising, and whatnot during our
🗨️ Q&As
🗨️ Consultations
🗨️ Creative collaborations
(That’s a promise! 🫵🏼)
So, I thought, “What could be a better list to write than EXACTLY about the sheer level of clear communication we’ll practice?”
⠀
Anyway, anyway... I bet you won’t believe I originally intended this list to have only around 5–10 words! 🤯
⠀
🦗🦗🦗
[Crickets suddenly stop in shock]
⠀
Yep, it’s true! I overdid myself with this one… 😅
⠀
Now that you’ve read the first 21 out of 77, why not stay tuned for more vocabulary fun?
⠀
The next parts to this Masterlist of Words Similar/Related to “Explanation” will launch soon! 🚀 ...enough. Hold on to your rockets, fellas 😂
⠀
⠀
⠀
🍔 QOTD 🍔
Which word here is your favourite?
Yes, you have to choose just one!!! 🔪
⠀
⠀
⠀
‼️ DISCLAIMER‼️
I’m not claiming these words are true synonyms (i.e., having the exact same meaning as one another). They are not at all synonymous with each other, but they convey ideas or actions that resemble, complement, or specify the word “explanation”, which—if used with caution—can enhance the quality and impact of your writing, speech, and even your own thoughts and mindset.
⠀
In any case, it’s always a good idea to expand our vocabulary, even if we don’t use these new words right away. After all, science says language learning is good for brain health, so, why not? 🧠

Hi Kes :) I am wondering if you have any thoughts on IwtV/TVC classpects 🤔💭
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry it took me a bit to respond i had to enter classpecting mode.
to start out, space and time are the most fundamental aspects of the narrative, and given that iwtv/tvc is so heavily focused on narrative and its own narrative framing device i think having space and time players is essential.
daniel i think is a space player--he provides the literal "space" for the interview, and in the show, he could be considered through his journalistic work an accomplished artist himself, he's a much more effective interviewer and is less of an empty vessel for the story and more of someone who helps to write it himself and find the truth. for this reason he could also be a light player i think. he is definitely a passive player, so i would lean toward page or sylph? in the show i would say certainly page, and the season 2 finale is evidence of how powerful a full-fledged page can be!
claudia i feel fairly confident in saying is a time player. maybe thief of time--she is literally living on stolen time--but she also had time in one sense, the natural progression of aging, stolen from her. she is also an essential part of the narrative and i think that her death was in some sense its genesis. even more so in the book, which is imo so clearly written about the horror of the loss of a young child who will now never get to grow up. it doesn't hurt that she's driven and a fighter and musically gifted.
i like the idea that the space and time players never get to meet each other also!
louis was kind of harder for me. i think he must be a destroyer class blood aspect, and he certainly is not an active class, so i think he has to be a bard of blood. he ghosts breath in the sense that he has this sense of constant alienation from the world, but the core of him is extremely family-oriented. he tries to escape from this feeling of alienation through lestat, claudia, armand, whoever, and is continually frustrated by his inability to truly connect with anyone after paul's death. and yet he continually blows up his chances for connection despite their sincerity--in the book he plays an unintentional role in paul's death, in the show his relationship with his family disintegrates after he chooses to become a vampire/be with lestat (DID YOU EAT THAT BABY LOUIS??!?!?), he kills/aids in the death of lestat, he fails to save claudia and chooses armand over her, he can't ever connect with armand again. in the first book this ends for him in total solitude and despair, just trying to be listened to for a little while, and in the show he seems to have gone back to embracing the freedom of his opposite aspect while also having a new bond with daniel and briefly reuniting with lestat. (there is also a joke here somewhere about blood and his reluctance to embrace his vampire nature.)
armand is, i feel, a total void player. my read on him as a character is that he has completely hollowed himself out and no longer has any sense of self beyond whatever convenient lie he is telling in the moment or whatever is being imposed on him from the outside. i would say perhaps heir of void--it's something he can use and weaponize (maybe tied to how he can and does excise memories, definitely tied to how he tries to look like the guy who holds the key to all the mysteries) even though it has taken him over completely. like louis, incredibly and sometimes (frequently) maliciously passive. depressing ass classpect but at least it is not the end of his story!
lestat was actually the hardest for me and i expect that my opinions will change while i read tvl and qotd and whatever else.. he might be a light player in a vriskaesque sense, he might be a heart player in the sense of struggling with the concept of the self especially the emotional self, he seems maybe like a prince but i would have a hard time connecting that with an aspect cause i don't really see him ghosting void or mind... i really am not sure. i will think about it more.
i would love to hear your thoughts on any of these!!! or anyone elses!!

Dear X by Vanziun
🍂Genre: Psychological Thriller/Drama
📚 How far will you go to get what you want in this world? AhJin went all the way, rose to the top as the best actress in Korea until her secrets came out to the world.
💭 As a thriller lover I always thought that, there was that nothing could bother me as I probably have read it all. I ... was very wrong.
This story made me uncomfortable. Made me feel repulsive but at the same time it was so addictive that I couldn't stop reading.
I can't even tell you guys how twisted this was without spoiling, so just trust me when I say, it's probably one of the best psychological thrillers I had the opportunity to read. It’s bittersweet and a hell of a ride! I also thought the ending was provoking!
🎨 The art is easy for the eyes and the lack of bright, colors sets the mood.
✒️ Dear X is also rumored to have a drama adaptation. No dates or anything have been confirmed yet.
📖 62 chapters of craziness

🦇 I Have Some Questions for You Book Review 🦇
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
❝ I couldn't figure out who knew more about what happened to Thalia: me now, or me at barely eighteen. My adult self, looking back with experience and perspective, or my raw teenage self, both jaded and naive, taking everything in fresh. ❞
❓ #QOTD How would you describe your high school self? ❓
🦇 Bodie Kane returns to her New Hampshire boarding school, Granby, to teach film and podcast courses, only for her past to haunt her. During her senior year, her former roommate Thalia Keith was murdered, supposedly by the school's athletic trainer. Not everyone agrees that the true murderer is behind bars, though. When one of Bodi's students covers the case as a podcast project 23 years later, Bodie is forced to explore her past; to view sepia-tinted memories under a new scope.
🦇 Before I reveal my thoughts, I have to admit, choosing a rating and writing a review for this novel was challenging. Elements I found frustrating added to the novel's artistry. The story's complexity made it all the more intriguing. My opinion and rating changed multiple times. Read this book and review with an open mind.
💜 Award-winning author Rebecca Makkai does a stunning job of crafting a timely, compelling piece, timely not only for its true crime focus, but also for its exploration of the Me Too movement. It's easy for readers to invest in the truth behind Thalia's murder, especially with so many prospective suspects and missing, unexamined pieces. The language she uses feels both detailed and dizzying, enough that readers might reexamine their own memories. She creates a complex cast of characters, each adding pieces to the puzzle, building a collage of faded, broken memories for Bodie and her students to explore.
💭 Covering such heavy topics is no easy task. However, there are MANY active pieces of Bodie's life to keep track of (her career, her past, the case, her husband's own MeToo cancellation). Each piece forces Bodie to examine her past and present, her position in Thalia's story, and our modern-day perception of true crime and abuse. Bodie narrates by referring to a "you" who isn't revealed until readers are well into the book, which is both a curiosity and a little frustrating. She also refers to recent sexual abuse or murder cases in a long-winding "remember the one..." format that, while a commentary on our current obsession with true crime murder, drags readers away from Bodie's story, causing the writing to feel disjointed. It also feels like Makkai wanted to explore TOO MANY concepts to remain relevant, which potentially stole attention from the story's true message.
💜 Recommended to true crime fans who love complex cases. Perfect for book clubs!

🦇 Major thanks to the author and publisher for providing an ARC of this book via Netgalley. 🥰 This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

📖 Six of Crows #1
✍️ Leigh Bardugo
4.5/5⭐️
1/5🌶 (a lot of tension not really spice)
💭📝 THOUGHTS:
I absolutely love when a book brings me to the edge of my seat. This one had that IT factor and I’m absolutely flabbergasted on how much I enjoyed this.
The story was amazing, the plot unexpected and the characters *chefs kiss*
Quite the adventure here, I have to admit that I did fall in love with the six MCs — all for very different reasons.
I never knew what to expect either from the story or the characters. The multiple POVs allowed me, as a reader, to get into the mindset of each of the characters, and even to follow the story and understand their feelings as if I was the one going through it.
Books are a powerful thing, and to be able to achieve this type of reading experience — one that got me so invested the whole time and as much as I would try to guess what was going to happen, I couldn’t —made it THAT good of a book!
While romance was more of a very slight subplot, you know I’m rooting for all of them at this point! The flirting and the tension was so well thought out and subtle at times. And that plot twist at the end?? I just want to jump into the next book right away!
I definitely recommend this one!

(🇺🇸/ 🇪🇸) Qotd: What is your favorite book setting? Heyyy. So I decided to go for a break because of my studies but I'll be back after I write exams InshaAllah ❇ - Trick or Treat (DS Imogen Grey #7) by Katerina Diamond BLURB A stranger. A child. A liar who will stop at nothing… When six-year-old Marcus is taken from outside his house on Halloween, there is only one witness: a frightened teen determined to keep himself hidden. After an anonymous tip off, Detective Imogen Grey is called out to an expensive Exeter street, caught up in the buzz of the holiday. But when the police visit Marcus’s house, his parents claim everything is fine. Imogen is sure there is more to the family than meets the eye. But just how much more, she could never have imagined… What has happened to little Marcus? And will he ever come home? REVIEW This book is the latest addition to the Grey and Miles series. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series but this book was excellent. I feel there’s no need to read the others in the series and this can be read as a standalone. It was quite straightforward from the beginning. It was obvious it was going to centre on a kidnapping. From the first scene we see a teenager – Jason who is angry at his girlfriend for dumping him. Deciding to trash her house since her parents and her are on a vacation, he sees something he can never unsee. A young boy being kidnapped from just across the street by two hooded men in a white van. Jason quickly calls the cops anonymously and Detective Imogen Grey is soon called to the scene. Full review on my blog - 💭 ¿Cuál es tu escenario de libro favorito? Me encantan los libros ambientados en pueblos o en el campo 😍 https://www.instagram.com/p/CaQXVghrRJw/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Hating Game
Author: Sally Thorne
🍂Genre: Contemporary Romance & Humor
📔Story: 4/5
📝Writing Style: 5/5
✉️Overall: 4/5
📚Hating someone is almost same as loving them. Lucy hates Joshua, her one true nemesis. The only drawback to her perfect job is sitting across him.
He pushes all of her buttons & makes her lose her cool. He brings the worst out of her. And she does the same.
They hate each other. They really do. Absolutely hate each other.
At least that's what Luch thought until he kisses her.
💭 Thought :
📝Writing - First of all, I loved the writing of The Hating Game, a big 5 for that!
It felt charming and had a flowery feel to it. Almost whimsical. It was absolutely beautiful.
🎭🔰👥The characters - The way Lucy - our protagonist - thinks and acts, honestly it wasn't never boring being inside of her head.
Josh was so sweet. Truly there is nothing better than a man written by a woman.
📔Story - From the get-go, the banter, the chemistry, and the comedy were in abundance and I really enjoyed those first few chapters.
I love characters who dish each other out, and then serve it back.
The third act conflict was good. Was kinda surprised by the twist too.
🌶️Spicy - Honestly, I'm not a fan of book spice. So I mostly skim through them. Though, the scene in the **** was really nice.
If you like hot stuffs in your book, you will love this one.
The spice doesn't overpower the story and writing.
♻️ There is a movie adaptation of The Hating Game that came out in 2021. Lucy is cast as Lucy Hale. And Joshua is casted as Austin Stowell.
It was good.
I loved the book better.
🌸QOTD - Do you have a nemesis?
