Third Level Society: First Version

Story Four: Meon Bell

My avatar, Captain Bornan, was reassigned to command the Airship Slayvon deep in the Kingdom of Prestia, based out of a secret location near the royal capital Mathena, unknown to the Prestian Crown. And the assignment last week was to escort a certain person from the stateless city of Mareglacei to the stateless city of Novatrivis.

Novatrivis has been a stateless city governed mutually by ambassadors from each of the Five Nations; thus the reason I emphatically led the quest against the White Lothar a number of weeks ago. However, recently, a powerful figure named Carneman staged a successful coup and became King over a large portion of the city. However, Novatrivis is not the agenda. This up and rising King is bent on overtaking the Crown of Prestia. While that violates the Stateless City agreement and the law under the Kingdom of Prestia, the Order I serve actually backs this rise to power because Carneman is of the Secularist Bloc. Our Order, meanwhile, runs our respective Temples in Vera and Sterran headed by human deity-equivalents; we do not trust the return to power of the original Five Deities, an agenda pursued by the Kingdoms of Prestia and Marlen.

I would also like to mention that King Carmenan supports turning Prestia, effectively, into a democracy.

There have been concerns with this, however. The population of Prestia, consisting of numerous Members' avatars and their daemons, is divided evenly over the issue. There has also been word that the Kingdom of Marlen in the North is sending an assassin to end King Carmenan. While Carmenan could effectively respawn, the time it would take to do so and recover the backing of the coup would be enough time for the original establishment to bolster forces to bring back the status quo. Furthermore, faith would be lost among the supporters of that quest. Basically, once our overtake is lost, it is lost for awhile. The concern with the assassin has been the basis for the assignment taken by my avatar: Captain Bornan. The job for Bronan was to command a hidden fleet of airships to deliver a counter-assassin to Novatravis in order to stop the assassination.

The Kingdom of Marlen was aware of our plot. However, they expected us to fly our fleet over the Magnamont-Mathenan Mountain pass, across the Southeastern Arturian Sea, and through the mountain pass on the other side Southeast to Trivis; and they planned to strike somewhere along this route. Meanwhile, our mission anticipated this by drawing a route, instead, to fly West from Mathena and stop in the city of Sterran, where our ships will fuel and pick up the remainder of the crew needed for the mission. We then planned to continue West from this point, where we would cross over the Western edge of the Arturian Realm, which, by algorithm structure, would instantly loop us to the same latitudinal point on the Eastern edge, thus simulating our dymensional plane equivalent of traveling around a globe. Once entering off the Eastern edge, our fleet planned to discreetly land at a secret airfield built by one of our allies. The counter-assassin would then go to a nearby train station and take the train into the centre of Novatrivis, reporting to the King for service.

So Friday night, we carried out the plan. My airship, The Slayvon, left the secret base in Mathena along with the four other airships: The Marq, The Forren, The Qoph, and The Merlin. And to note, it was The Merlin that was concealed, carrying the counter-assassin.

All went to plan accordingly until we arrived just outside the city gates of Sterran, where we saw what appeared to be three suns in the sky. Suddenly and unexpectedly, we were hit by a flurry of cannonfire, which downed The Marq, The Forren, and The Qoph, all in a matter of moments. Then, The Slayvon was hit; thus, we all had to abandon ship. My avatar, Captain Bornan, went aboard an escape aeroplane which launched from the crashing vessel and did a forward-left-down-dive maneuver.

I was dismayed at what happened next. While I was pulling this maneuver, a mysterious enemy aircraft followed me, shooting at my plane and doing significant damage. I typed in a forward-right-up-shoot command through my console, but yet I was still pursued with precision. I executed several more maneuvers in quick form, and had the same result. This time, my plane was shot down, and my avatar, Captain Bornan, died as a result, being forced to respawn from his point of origin many weeks away.

Even tonight, I cannot figure how my opponent on the dymensional plane was able to predict my specific maneuvers. I understand that there are conditional scripts that Members can type scripts into their consoles to have avatars react accordingly to how other avatars act. But first, that is actually against Society rules; second, it is almost impossible to set up a script like that when you are in a situation where the avatar is controlling an aircraft or some sort of machine.

This, of course, led me to my most important question: Who was the enemy in question?

On Saturday night, I met with Alex Cromme and Cray Fenton in the Library. 

"Did The Merlin make it at least?" I asked Fenton, for he was the one whose avatar, Fencrae, is serving as the counter-assassin.

"We didn't even take a shot," he said. "And my avatar is safe and sound. I just don't know how we should proceed with that sort of treachery afoot."

"I just heard earlier today that Sari's 'Progressive' camp is blaming Captain Bornan for not staying aboard until everyone else on the airship was evacuated," Cromme said.

"Very interesting how they would chime in," replied Fenton. "Especially since I heard from a few sources that Sari, or a friend of hers, is using some sort of console enhancement so that you don't require your commands to be typed in." 

I had announced earlier this year that I would be running for the Dungeonmaster position, since Breen made it known that he would be stepping down at the end of this year. Sari Frame had announced her candidacy, but I know that the Society would render itself dysfunctional under her tenure. I, very recently, made my candidacy official across the Society Ticketer, over which Fenton publicly made his support for me. We have been running our campaign for a couple weeks now, with Cromme assisting by mostly typing the Ticketer messages while I did my quests. It was part of an agreement, since Cromme had been out of practice with his questing.

With that noted, I responded to Fenton's speculation over the console enhancement with, "Let's not run a campaign on false conspiracy theories." Fenton seemed a bit embarrassed when he responded: "Right." He understood though. And he is not the kind to have hang-ups when he is corrected.

"What do we do though?" Cromme asked.

"Obviously Breen and his Prefects aren't the answer," Fenton said.

That reminded me of their intervention at Novapax last month. I was tempted to fly into a rage over that, but things have been getting political. 

"We will meet at a later time over the campaign and politics outside the Arturian Realm," I said. "In the meantime, let's focus on the counter-assassin quest."

Qophper is named after the letter 'Qoph' from the Semitic abjads and the obsolete letter 'Koppa' from the Greek Alphabet. It's commonly inhabited by anthropomorfic animals of all kinds and is composed by 12 kingdoms:

Phytos: the kingdom of wood and grass

Nero: the kingdom of water

Oxee: the kingdom of acid and toxins

Ammus: the kingdom of sand and desert

Photia: the kingdom of fire

Kristallo: the kingdom of crystals and gemstones

Edafotz: the kingdom of stones and mountains

Pagos: the kingdom of ice

Anemon: the kingdom of sky and wind

Vront: the kingdom of lightning and thunder

Lampsee: the kingdom of light

Scootadee: the kingdom of darkness

Each kingdom possesses its own culture, landscapes, fauna and flora, typical food and coat of arms, but Qophper in general possesses its own language (which is a mix of english, greek and korean), currency, writing system and even its own numerical system which is the hexadecimal, used for literally everything, such as counting, calculating, scoring, expressing hours of the day, in calendar (days, months and years) and in everyday life to carry out routine tasks

in this rant I am attempting to, as appropriately as possible, explain something. Phi (Φ) is a Greek letter corresponding to the Hebrew letter Qoph (ק), the 19th hebrew letter, however if we consider Alef (א) to be 0 or unnumbered like the Fool (0) in Tarot, then Qoph is the 18th letter and corresponds to The Moon (XVIII) in Tarot. Moon is an easy anagram for my name, Mono (18). 18 in Hebrew Numerology corresponds to a word for Life. 18 is also a semiperfect number as the latter 3 of its divisors (3,6,9) add up to 18. [3,6,9] was a sequence of numbers that Nikola Tesla was obsessed with over the course of his life. Of course, 6 is 3+3 and 3*2, and 9 is 3+3+3 and 3*3. and 6*3 or 6+6+6 (666) also equals 18. The sum of all divisors of 18 is 21 which is 18+3. There are 21 Tarot, not counting the numberless Fool (0). Phi is also used mathematically to represent the golden ratio (~1.618 033) which was used by the Greeks as a way to calculate beauty. Phi often associated with Philosophy, a word with an often overlooked origin. The first Phi in the word for Philosophy does not relate to knowledge or wisdom, it relates to Love. Philosophy means “Love of Wisdom”. There are many mathematical implementations that use Phi, from magnetic flux and quantum wave functions, to angles, ecology, and psychology. I knew none of this. I as a creature was lost, asking who I was, what I was, and what I wanted. I decided to focus on Who I was. I could feel an idea of exactly Who I was but could not find any words for it. So I drew it, I picked up a pencil and drew a fine circle and it was wrong. I dragged a single straight line from above its top to below its bottom and it was right. For all the day and weeks and months after I was obsessed with the symbol (still am as you may be able to tell). It was my symbol. Within two lines I felt a connection to this circle with a single line bisecting it. In time I have come to call this either, “A bisect” or “Tempus Perfectum Prolatio Imperfectum” an existing symbol from old musical notation from the Medieval times, a symbol I had learned represented 3/2 time and some other details. AND OF COURSE, as I write this I notice that the Tempus Perfectum Prolatio Imperfectum COULD BE SEEN AS “semiperfect” in the same way as 18 is also considered mathematically semiperfect. Of course of course, this is all coincidence, it just has to be. BUT THEN WHAT A FUCKING COINCIDENCE THAT 18 HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE NUMBER FOR YEARS BEFORE I KNEW THIS ALL. What seemingly conniving fate brings all this together. Of course a person is more likely to notice patterns of the things they like and associate with but this feels like it goes a bit too far. Of course I may simply conclude that I am a genius and came to these conclusions through my fathomless intellect combined with numerical and occult fascinations. And while that is true, I feel like some conspiracy addict whose CERTAIN there’s something else here. Though it is an anagram, that fact that the NAME I chose for myself years ago when I first made my discord account corresponds to the 18th Tarot, The Moon. The actual moon of which, I had worshipped during my time as a wiccan, calling it Diana and trying to use it to achieve magic ritual in an attempt to actually escape reality. I invented a demon I would make an offering to, Abigail. On a Halloween night I begged to my invented demon in Latin, offering it blood and souls to send me to another world. No demon appeared to whisk me into another world, I was only met with the profound and internal sadness of coming to terms with the fact none of my wiccan beliefs had ever yielded more than minor illusions and self-deception. Dearest reader, I thank you for reading this far because I have a little guess for you. How many souls did I offer Abigail? My own single soul? Two or Three from others? Eighteen. I offered 18 souls from people who I received the explicit agreement to have possession of their souls. now finally, my mind is all but silent. I see a placid lake at night, something dark floats in the waters and I do not know what. But I don’t know if I need to know.

I am assuming you have the pages from Hordes of Chaos about the Dark Tongue:

Since you mention the peculiar E,ii and I,ee combinations. The page above holds the solution to your query. The small letter combinations give the clue of pronunciation to the preceeding letters. Thus: Ch is pronounced as the guttural "kh" as in "loch", and not like tch, as in "cheese". So, the E is pronounced as "ii" which the reader may interpret as either a softened Slavic "yi" or a long form of the short English "i" as in "fish ". I is likewise pronounced as a soft "ye" a lengthened "e" like "set", or simply as written: "cheese". I enjoy the interpretation of long vowels, held for greater duration than a short version, but since the Dark Tongue is absent short e and I, I think the more likely explanation is a schwa between short e and short I, and a long sound like "these".

Now, that's assuming any standard pronunciation, which can't be possible. The Gods of Chaos are not so amenable as to limit their speech to one mode. Especially when Tzeentch is in the mix. There must be myriad dialects which play with these constructs, to say nothing of the fact that the above orthography is a pale human imitation at a speech created by things beyond our comprehension, intended to harness (or attempt to) the force of magic itself.

I would love to see what other sources you've gathered. I like to pronounce the above phonemes in a certain way (Q especially I love to give a Qoph character) playing with the conlang sounds like a lot of fun.

CONLANG COMMUNITY OF TUMBLR

I am currently trying to decipher the conlang of Dark Tongue, the language of Chaos in Warhammer Fantasy and 40k, using minimal and inconsistant references. I'd say I'm making pretty good headway for what I'm working with, having deciphered near enough half of the compound words and root meanings that I actually have as sources. That being said, I have run into several issues that I could use help with:

The phonemes of this language do not map onto english, but I do have access to the phonetic alphabet used by the language. Is there any way to set up such that I can type in that script?

Two of the phonemes don't make any sense. They have been written as (I, ee) and (E, ii), and I cannot figure out the correct pronounciation for either of them - and they do some heavy lifting as vowel sounds in this language. Please help in some way lol

I just straight up don't have enough sources. This one is a call to fans of 40k and Warhammer Fantasy: please send in some excerpts you can find that feature the Dark Tongue, used by Chaos rituals, magic, and daemons, which has a corrupted form used by the Beastmen (making it less useful but still a potential source).

I do not study languages outside of having a creative writing degree and a passing knowledge of French (I can tell people that I don't speak it). Please help in any way cause I am in over my head lol

I am more than willing to go into details to any degree, and would in fact shout into the void if I but thought the void wanted to listen. Any help as appreciated!
