friendly psa for those who haven't read any of the Chinese version of svsss and/or don't know anything about Chinese: the characters for "luo" in Qiu Jianluo's name and Luo Binghe's name are not the same! Here's a brief explanation of each:
Qiū Jiǎnluó is 秋剪罗:
/qiū means 'autumn' (same character as in 沈清秋/Shěn Qīngqiū)
剪/jiǎn is a 形声字, a phono-semantic (or sound-meaning) compound, which means one part indicates the sound and the other part gives its meaning. here, 前/qián on top relates to the pronunciation, and 刀/dāo, 'knife,' on the bottom gives its meaning, which is 'to cut.' it can be found most commonly in compounds like 剪刀 for 'scissors'
罗/luó is a super old character that originally related to catching birds in a net, its meaning has broadened quite a bit and is also present in a lot of 成语/idioms. note that this is pronounced with a rising tone!
Luò Bīnghé is 洛冰河:
洛/luò is part of the name of several irl rivers in China, and is the name of the river in svsss where Binghe was found as a baby. note that this is pronounced with a falling tone!
冰河/bīnghé is a compound word meaning glacier, with 冰 for ice and 河 for river
罗 vs 洛: as you can see, these characters have unique appearances and meanings. In the English translations, it's easy to think they're the same word since we don't have tones, but in Chinese, tone is a major distinguishing factor, so these are not pronounced the same. these characters are both common and would not be confused with each other.
I'm not trying to tell anyone what headcanons they can or can't have, but I do think it's important to remember that for those of us reading media like this in translation, and especially for those of us who are not Chinese, we aren't the target audience, and that means we're going to miss out on some stuff sometimes.
anyway this was more info than anyone wanted or needed, but if you didn't know this before I hope you learned something! and as always, disclaimer: I am not by any means an expert in Chinese names, nor am I fluent in the language! if you are either of these and I have said something incorrect, please feel free to correct me

Today's pop culture spirit is... Tamamo no Mae/Yùzǎo qián (玉藻前/玉藻前) from Onmyoji.
Tamamo no Mae's SP iteration is called Jinten Tamamo no Mae (燼天玉藻前), Jìntiān Yùzǎoqián (烬天玉藻前), or Blazing Tamamo No Mae.
Pictured above: Tamamo no Mae's SSR base skin and SP base skin.
Tamamo no Mae's SSR profile is as such:
The unfathomable great youkai Tamamo no Mae, possessing incomparable beauty and formidable demonic power. Has a deep friendship with Kuzunoha who is also a fox demon, they seemed to have made some kind of agreement. Although frequently appearing in the form of a elaborately dressed woman, the true appearance is not actually so.
And their SP profile is as such:
It was fate that robbed him of his family, and now he sees fate pushing both humans and spirits towards the abyss. Tamamonomae caught a glimpse of his fate during a conversation with a deity. Undaunted by the hardships that awaited him, he decided to head to the most cruel Realm of Trial, determined to change that tragic ending. The nine-tailed Tamamonomae passed through unbearable ordeals, retrieved the souls of his family, and returned to the mortal world with a whole new form.
Tamamo no Mae is seen as a crossdresser, which some fans take to represent some level of transness, albeit what kind of gender Tamamo no Mae has is undecided, over just being a crossdresser.
They are known to have had a family, a wife and kids, before they died. Their SP skin depicts them having gone to the Underworld for them.
You might call upon Tamamo no Mae for:
coping with loss
communing with the dead
obtaining a fox familiar
gender related things
reconnecting with lost people
Some Signs & Associations from Tamamo no Mae:

剪刀石头布. jiǎndāoshítoubù. Rock, Paper Scissors: English Translation!
In which they verbally rip each other to pieces before making up with a bestie handshake and declaring that, yeah, actually I’d rather live with all your faults before finding a new partner.
Video link: here starts about 1 min, after 算了把
As always I am a novice translating for fun. I do not speak any dialect of Chinese, this is not fluent, but I hope it is reliable enough to be insightful.
CXS
石头, 剪刀, 出不出拉倒
Shítou, jiǎndāo, chū bù chū lādǎo
Rock, scissors, can you even play them?

LG
摆烂, 自闭, 冷战又绝交
bǎilàn, zìbì, lěngzhàn yòu juéjiāo
You give up, close yourself off, break off another relationship (he’s referring to “rock” and “scissors,” symbolism… but ouch????)
你底牌也很无聊
Nǐ dǐpái yě hěn wúliáo
Your moves are also quite senseless
CXS

(Nope. They take a breath, then right back to it lol)
CXS
毒舌, 古板, 冷酷, 傲娇

Next time we traverse (time) you can handle it yourself (ooooh ouch. No, he knows what game he’s playing.)
LG
说到底这才是你的底气
Shuōdàodǐ zhè cái shì nǐ de dǐqì
In the end, this ability is your “breath,” (as in CXS is the one who breathes life into their ability? LG really switch back to complements in a hurry, huh)
合二为一是前提
Hé èr wéi yī shì qiántí
Combining two into one is the prerequisite
Refrain - accompanied by bestie handshake

A Hong Bao (红包) or Ang Pow in Hokkien is a gift of money packed into a red packet. Red is considered a symbol of luck, life and happiness. Hong baos are given as tokens of good wishes during auspicious occasions such as Chinese New Year and weddings.

There are no clear literary sources to trace the origin of the red envelope tradition. In China, during the Qin Dynasty, the elderly would thread coins with a red string. As the society progresses, yā suì qián (压岁钱) was evolved to be wrapped by red papers, since the red color symbolizes good fortune in Chinese tradition. Hong Bao (红包) previously called 压岁钱, which initially expresses the meaning of "money suppressing evil spirits". It's a tradition that during Chinese New Year, red envelopes are typically given by the married to the unmarried, most of whom are children. Because it's traditionally believed that children are easy to get hurt by evils, so people will give them 压岁钱 to protect them and that allow the younger generation to spend their year peacefully and safely.

You know, Shu-Chen (淑珍) was initially meant to be a placeholder name, but my mind made the connection with the term ‘數錢 (Shù qián)’, which means ‘counting money’. For a character in a game that could very much be viewed as a criticism on capitalism, it kind of works.
(Actually did a double-check with parents and the name ‘Shu-Chen’ is a female only name, not unisex like the site had stated. But at the same time, don’t need to have a unisex name for a non-binary character.)
#frosty babbles#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#shu chen (oc)#mouthwashing oc#self insert#was initially disappointed but then realized hey it’s free reign#just have fun#sorry for any mistakes I’m multitasking

Time & Measurements for Xianxia/Wuxia Writers/RPers
I rp within some xianxia verses (mainly mxtx stuff) and I've noticed (and been told) that some people struggle with some things regarding time, measures and money. So, I made this quick, handy info post. This is not all there is and some of this has changed with time. If you want more in detailed information, I recommend you do some own research (I'm adding sources, so you can always start there).
Time
During Daylight: shí-kè (時–刻) Also known as Chinese double/dual hours. The day was divided in 12 shíchén (时辰), which is roughly a 2 hour slot. This is sometimes further divided into chū (first/initial hour, 初) and zhèng (central hour, 正). Each shíchén is also assigned a zodiac animal.
There was also a shorter measurement of time called kè (刻). The exact length of a kè was 1/100 of a day, which is either 24 min, 14.4 min or 14 min 24 seconds.
zǐ (子) (rat) - 23:00 chǒu (丑) (ox) - 01:00 yín (寅) (tiger) - 03:00 mǎo (卯) (rabbit) - 05:00 chén (辰) (dragon) - 07:00 sì (巳) (snake) - 09:00 wǔ (午) (horse) - 11:00 wèi (未) (sheep) - 13:00 shēn (申) (monkey) - 15:00 yǒu (酉) (chicken) - 17:00 xū (戌) (dog) - 19:00 hài (亥) (pig) - 21:00
(An incense stick time is usually somewhere between 15-30 min)
Distance, Length & Weight
Since the metric and imperial equivalent of these measurements have changed with time, I've decided to use the 1915 conversions of them, which roughly corresponds to some of the ancient and imperial conversions.
chĭ (尺) - 32 cm or 12.6 in bù (步) - 1.6 m or 5.2 ft lĭ (里) - 576 m or 630yd
jiāliàng (嘉量) - ancient volume measuring device • yuè (龠) - ~52 ml or 1.822 fl oz • gě (合) - ~103.5 ml or 3.644 fl oz • shēng (升) - ~1.035 litre or 1.822 pt • dŏu (斗) - ~10.35 litre or 2.278 gal • hú (斛) (10 dou) - ~51.8 litre or 11.39 gal
qián (錢) - ~3.7 g or 0.1316 oz liǎng (兩) - ~37 g or 1.316 oz jīn (斤) - ~ 597 g or 1.316 lb
Currency
Wén (文) was the main currency denomination and based on the tael system (liǎng, see weights above) where the value of the currency was based on its weight in liǎng. This was due to there not being a central mint for making of a currency. The currencies commonly came as round copper coins with a hole in the middle or silver or gold ingots, often shaped as 'boats' (but could come in any shape).
Copper coins were often put on a string and a string of 1000 wén, yīguàn qián (贯钱) (usually divided into ten sections of 100 coins), which would then be the equal of one liǎng of pure silver (or one silver ingot).
(Currency changed depending on region, so this is all general)

System Chińskiego Imperium Enneagramu CH.I.N.K.E jest oparty na starochińskiej koncepcji filozoficznej Bagua - oto system triadyczny (zwany systemem trygramów) oparty na koncepcji dualności

Pierwszym wstępem, według systemu triadycznego CH.I.N.K.E, świat powstał z bezkształtu z punktu zharmonizowanego, zwanego Harmonijną Jednią, która wyłoniła dwie przeciwne siły.
- Ojcem 乾 (Qián) - czystą siłą X
- oraz Matką 坤
(Typ 九 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E)
Okreslając konkretnie te zestawy energetyczne, otrzymujemy poniższe typy:
Typ 1 兑 (Duì) - Typ 一 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 2 坤 (Kūn) - Typ 二 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 3 巽 (Xùn) - Typ 三 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 4 坎 (Kǎn) - Typ 四 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 5 艮 (Gèn) - Typ 五 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 6 震 (Zhèn) - Typ 六 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 7 离 (Lí) - Typ 七 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 8 乾 (Qián) - Typ 八 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E
Typ 9 太极 (Tài Jí) - Typ Centralny - Typ 九 Chińskiego Imperium CH.I.N.K.E

Flag no. 88: Hakkar FR.
'Sup, my name is Xolotl and I'm working on a conworld/fictional country project called 'Universe J'! For my first post here, I'm sharing my most recent flag from a country I'm just beginning to work on: "Hakkar". Here are some details behind the flag:
Official name of the country: Federative Republic of Hakkar.
Location and continent: Fictional Asia, between fictional China and fictional Korea.
Form of government: Federal, presidential and democratic republic.
Official languages: Hakkari chinese, korean, english and japanese (don't worry, it has a good explanation lol).
Main inspiration for the country: Singapore if it was Korean or more Chinese, and located in East Asia (?).
The flag represents 3 key elements in the hakkari culture: the Korean and Chinese heritage in the country; the bagua, a staple of traditional Chinese philosophy; and a plum blossom as the national emblem, which it's recognized as the country's national flower.
The color red symbolizes good fortune, fire and prosperity; while blue stripes represent the sea in both ends, as the country is located in a peninsula. The same two colors on the bagua, however, represent blood and harmony. The lighter shade of red around the horizontal qián subtly symbolizes China and its importance on hakkari culture.
Important note: my versions of China and Korea are called "Kailan" and "Dharea" respectively. I'll post about them later if that's cool.

English Translation:
Verse 1:
Wandering faraway; who is the enemy and who is a friend of the wanderer?
During these ten years of mist and clouds along with a cup of wine,
This body is like a fluttering silk flying through the beautiful city of Jiangnan;
After the ice melts, the flowers and the moon are far away facing towards the willows of Pingjiang river.
Pre-chorus 1:
Intoxicated in a drunken dream of three autumns[1] in the Jianghu,[2]
The good and evil of the human heart are solely for love and grievance,
Yet still not able to forget the promise with a lifelong friend to age old together…
Chorus:
Yet like this ancient dream of grasses,
Now unrestrained for the rest of lifetime, too apathetic to know pleasure and regrets.
Only longing to engage in a battle of dancing with swords,
Holding a cup of wine, inquiring with a smile to comfort this solitude man.
Deep madness and anger merely buried in the vast Underworld,[3]
Yet who is the one holding the lantern in the spectral ghost valley and for whom?
Here in this place forever, exists the mundane world[4] with eternal light.
Verse 2:
Ten thousand ghosts fill through the opening of the light ray exposure;
Turning to one side, there is the lean, graceful white robe of a certain person.
Enchanted and fell in love after long days, even a thin quilt feels much warmer than a raccoon fur coat.
As long as we stay together, even the cold, snowy night in Bashan feels as warm as it does during the day.
Pre-chorus 2:
Whose hand is it that passes right through the jade pot of an icily cold heart?
Not unless this thread of love is plucked out [5] that the truth can be clear;
The most unbearable thing to look at is the fact that this spring breeze will never be the same anymore.
Chorus:
Yet like this ancient dream of grasses,
Now unrestrained for the rest of lifetime, too apathetic to know pleasure and regrets.
Only longing to engage in a battle of dancing with swords,
Holding a cup of wine, inquiring with a smile to comfort this solitude man.
Deep madness and anger merely buried in the vast Underworld,
Yet who is the one holding the lantern in the spectral ghost valley [6] and for whom?
Here in this exact place forever, exists the mundane world with eternal light.
Break:
But through this one ray of light,
How fortunate to be able to pay back this passion surrounding several rounds of life and death?
Yet who cares about those past events?
Truth or false; this heartbeat clearly still lingers with warmth!
Last Chorus:
The wind peak cliff is far away; there is no place to shelter in,
This foolish world is never limited to a square inch.
Unsheathing the sword, wandering for good spring in faraway.

*Translator's Notes:
The literal title of this song is “Looking for Spring in the End of the World”, but I translated it more in Faraway Wanderers’ version: “Wandering for Spring Faraway”.
[1]: Chinese proverb, one day like three autumns: missing someone (most cases, lovers) felt eternally long, even one day feels like waiting three autumns to pass.
[2]: Jianghu, refers to Chinese wuxia, xianxia world (the martial arts world)
[3]: literally written “The Yellow Springs”, which means the Underworld (where the dead go in the afterlife)
[4]: Red dust means mundane world
[5]: in my opinion, can also refer to the phrase “tug/pluck at one’s heartstrings” which means to stir up emotions.
[6]: Ghost den, but in case of Tian Ya Ke I would like to translate it as valley :D
*Jiangnan, Pinjiang are the names of region in China.

一耳三鉗
During the Qing dynasty (1644-1912), the last imperial dynasty that ruled over China, there were numerous ways to distinguish between a Han lady and a Manchurian one, spanning from hairstyle to attire and jewelry. Among these, my personal favorite distinction are earrings. A Manchurian lady was required to wear the three-row earrings, known in Chinese as 一耳三鉗 (yī êr sān qián), for any public appearances. These exquisite earrings where made up of six total with three worn in each ear.
they consisted of pearls which ranged in quality based on the wearer’s socioeconomic status.
Concubines and nobles would commonly use jade gold and silver while commoners would use copper.

LYN, on ZLH's singing. (x)
LYN: In any case, during the process I understood the charm of his singing. There’s nothing wrong with me phrasing it like that, right? I understood the charm of his singing. That’s why in the show I kept cueing him, saying, “I don’t want to hear anyone else sing. I want to hear ZLH.” “Sing something. Come on, let’s do it together!” Actually- it’s because he’s a new player, so I wanted to break the ice with some playful ribbing. He didn’t sing, and it’s not like I would have FORCED him! But it ended up becoming a small inside joke. I said to him, “I just want to hear you sing. I’m begging you. Please!” But through the process of the show, we continued joking like this. And he can take a joke, too. He’d say, “I won’t sing!” so I replied, “If I send you 100rmb, will you sing? I’m begging.” We’ll make these types of jokes.
LYN: But after we finished recording and I got home and was lying on my bed, I started thinking: “Was that problematic?” When the show airs, would people think, “LYN, why are you such a terrible person? Are you making fun of him?? What do you mean by that? You’re a singer, so you sound nice and that makes you think you can make fun of others?” I was lying on my bed, thinking of this problem. “You’re forcing him! You’re-” /cuts himself off/ “-bullying new players!”
LYN: I was thinking of this problem, tossing and turning, and couldn’t sleep for a long time. I was thinking to myself, “It’s fine, right? People will know I was joking?” “I don’t need to bring him down just to prove how great of a singer I am, there’s no need for that! I’m not going to benefit in any way from doing that.” I just kept thinking about it. After a few days of mulling it over I decided it wasn’t a big deal. If we’re all getting along well then no one would think in that direction. Anyway, I just want to share that I’m a little 前怕狼后怕虎 (qián pà láng hòu pà hǔ; lit. fear the wolf in front and the tiger behind; needless fears)
