Orb: about the movement of Earth. Episode 4. Part 1.

Nobody expected the polish inquisition comedy amidst tragedy.

I won’t delve into details in this post but this story is so good it deserves to be experienced to its fullest which is diving right in with as little knowledge as possible, so please skip this post if you haven’t watched the show already.

So, after the heart wrenching finale of the first ark, we start this new one with a chilling scene: beautiful stars that has been only a source of awe for the previous three episodes turn into creepy watching eyes.

This honestly unnerving by itself image is accompanied by a worst exhortation that amounted to “we’re here to suffer bitch”. Which kinda aligns with Christian teachings but… that wording was some other level of depressing.

And after that bleak journey into this episode’s mc we get the first joke that is not funny-funny but funny because it comes out of nowhere:

And they proceed to mercilessly kill some rando (their job description is fighting duels for rich ppl).

Here I’ll jump ahead a bit: there are two scenes of this “work” and both of them are the weirdest most brilliant mixture of brutal realism and some Monty Pythinism: mc and his colleagues’ nonchalance and tears in their victims’ eyes, topic changing from very routine things to pondering whether a murderer’s soul (or any soul for that matter) can reach heavens.

I really think that Orb shows off its mastery of tone here, show us something so unbeatable to watch that we can only escape through laughter - and the story gives as a pardon, an indulgence for this frankly hysterical joy.

Going back to the first kill of the episode, we get the aftermath: two people talking about

Still images can’t show that but this is shot as a madman speech, half prayer half panicked plea. It’s bone-chilling.

But it’s followed by a hilarious 180:

You [oversharing]: life sucks :(

Your colleague: erm, actually it doesn’t!

You [horrified and ashamed]: ahah, sure you’re right sempai!

And I’m not even exaggerating. That’s literally how the scene goes:

It’s so sad and I feel such second hand embarrassment but at the same time the rapid change is absolutely hilarious. We’ve all been there. But more likely than not the topic wasn’t the immortality of soul and the inherent wickedness of earthly existence. Or maybe it was, we humans do tend to discuss strange stuff in the least appropriate circumstances.

So I havent introduced her yet, but this is my new snaughter, Scout.

She's a "rescue" from the Petco I work at. By rescue I mean she was adoptable because of her skin condition (last picture). The coworker who rang me out didnt charge me anything for her, so... free snake.

She just had her first shed with me, either last night or this morning and it all came off in one piece! Her skin is looking much better already.

I moved her from hopper m.ice to fuzzy r.ats, and she takes frozen/thawed like a champ.
