I just found your blog and I am absolutely enamored by all these designs! I did have a quick question though

I'd love to one day visit Japan, and I love the idea of attending a festival in a rented yukata. However, I'm concerned about if I could wear one or not due to the sleeves. I'm disabled and get around using forearm crutches, and have difficulty fitting larger sleeves in them.

I guess I was just curious about if either the sleeves could easily be pulled back to my elbows, or if maybe there are yukata with shorter sleeves (I've never seen them myself at least.)

As for your question, there is a fantastic way to accomodate your crutches: tasuki 襷 sleeves holders. Those are cord used for holding up sleeves out of the way (when doing chores, physical/messy activity, etc).

You can see below how tasuki are tied: basically think of an ∞ with the crossing on your back and the loop up front gathering up sleeves on your sides:

Depending on your mobility, you can pre-knot the cord beforehand then slip it around your body.

I am not sure how your mobility is so I'll also add other options to mix and match in order to nicely enjoy summer festivals in kimono attire:

Happi 法被 (festival coat): if you don't feel confortable strolling all day/night in yukata (the tighness of around your legs might be cumbersome), wearing a coat like those over your "normal" clothes is a good option to still be in festival mood :) Some are sleeveless, some have tube sleeves, and if not pair them with tasuki sleeves holder and you'll be good to go!

Nibushiki kimono 二部式着物 / nibushiki yukata 二部式浴衣 (two parts kimono/yukata): exactly what it says on the lid, those are kimono/yukata tailored in two parts, a skirt and a top one. Those might be harder to find in rentals, but have the convenience of being super easy to put on while being less prone to unraveling :) The two parts are also gentler on the figure as you can more easily adapt tighness etc. If you're are able to shop for a yukata beforehand, altering is pretty easy: chop in two, add ties and you're ready to get dressed ;)

Tsuke obi 作り帯 (two parts belt): in the same spirit as above, those are pre-tied obi belt, with a wrap-around part and a knot part. They are super common for children, but also exist for adult. Altering a pre owned obi is also super easy, see for example this past note (for nagoya obi styled taiko knot).

Yukata can be worn with hanhaba obi (half width belt), heko obi (soft belt), or kaku obi ("men" belt). Heko obi would be my recommendation as those are unisex, comfortable, and suuuuper easy to tie.

If you want to try hanhaba or kaku, I'd advise for karuta musubi, a flat, sturdy, and unisex knot pretty easy to tie.

Tortle clutches, how do they get their names?

Tortle clutches don't have names, per se. A clutch is a group of Tortles who all hatch around the same time. Tortles are raised by their parents but also by the other elders of their Bale. Each individual Tortle takes a second name which they feel suits them. We aren't born requiring years and years to grow up like an elf. When we've hatched we're walking within hours, and learn to swim very quickly. We learn to speak in about a year, and while most of us keep the first name our parents called us, we choose a second name we prefer. I found myself very strong at an early age, so I choose the second name of Deadlift. But my parents called me Butch because of how tall I was, even as a child. So, I am Butch Deadlift. Being so tall I was teased by the other boys, and I never had a sweetheart growing up, but... it was nice being big and strong like my mom. Even if I was a boy. It was just lonely sometimes.

My brother Roll Fizzlebeef rolled around a lot as a kid, but he choose Fizzlebeef because of how much he likes cooking meat. My other brother Fist Rockbone used to punch everyone as a kid, and he wanted to be tough, so he chose Rockbone. Rest in peace, Fist.

I was hatched to Bale Dragon. Our Bale name is probably the closest we have to a family name. I was Butch Deadlift of Bale Dragon, but I did not feel the call of a warrior/scholar. I received a vision in a dream of becoming a Cleric of Sehanine Moonbow when I was quite young. It was very scary because no one in my Bale was a cleric of the Mystic Seer. But my elders who were clerics of Corellon said that I had a good temperament to become a Cleric. And so I switched Bales to join Bale Egret.

Bale Egret focuses on finding peace and harmony within the world and within ourselves. After all, the world we create around ourselves will be a reflection of who we are inside ourselves. But anyway, I joined the Clerics of the Moon of Bale Egret. We had a wood elf envoy who was the official high priestess, Willow Stagheart. She took me under her wing and really helped me to excel in my prayers, devotions, and spell casting.

The Bales, which are akin to Clans, take their names from the animals of the natural world that they see themselves in. Bale Panther you will not see until they are upon you. Bale Hawk swoops in to rescue you, or to kill you, throwing their spears and javelins. Bale Troll, nearly all Nature Paladins and Shapeshifting Druids, do not back down from a fight. They'll heal themselves and each other and then smite you into submission. I hope this answers your question?

Comments: My 10,000th dragon hatchling! Allowing for 10+ years of mistakes in the numbering, anyway, some of which I caught and fixed, and possibly others of which I missed. Does include guest clutches (other people's in my lair, and mine in other lairs) but does not count opening eggs from events, Galore, and gathering.

Probably keeping him and, given the new breed just out, turning him into an Everlux.

May discontinue doing daily clutches moving forward, and switch over to "start a nest only when I feel like it"; 10+ years is a long time to play a game.
