 Captain Grant Curly isn't one for dreams. He isn't prone to daydreaming, or to dreaming at night either. 

 Which is why the nightmare is so jarring, even before it settles in around his shoulders like a shock blanket, the reality of it all - how far away any world wherein such brutality could come to happen is.

 Consciousness comes to him in the form of Anya. She's shaking him awake, calloused hands shaking as her grip on his shoulder eases and she curls in on herself, those sad, stormy eyes tracking his movement as his scream eases into coughing, wheezing, breathing in and gasping for air. 

 He has hands. He has hands.

 She did make him put on a gown, but the bandages are just on his legs.

 And- And Anya would've never been able to amputate that much meat. 

 There's no birthday cake. There's no-

 "Captain!" she yelps as he lurches forward, in her direction. She shoves herself away from him, the chair squeaking as it drags on the infirmary linoleum. 

 Curly vomits on the floor, by her feet.

  He mulls the events over in his head. There was-

 "I'm going to get a mop and a glass of water." Anya's voice breaks through the memory of flesh. The taste of it. 

 The girl at the head of the table, the girl who was not a crewmate, who was too young to belong on the crew.  She moved and the chains rattled. He realized two things then, even when awake-

Though he had hands now, he still felt the cold links of the chain wrapping around his wrists, binding them together. He can move his hands, but he can't get rid of the sensation that they're tugging him somewhere.

The girl's words were fading from his mind, but when he shut his eyes, Curly saw her grin (people don't have that many teeth. it was just a dream).

  He shook his head, voice steadier than he felt, as the pain began to make itself known again, replacing adrenaline as the thing guiding his consciousness away from good decisions;

 "Don't go." He says, "I'll go with you. No point mulling over things here."

 He can't lie - he can't say he knows he can fix it. He doesn't.

"I can walk." he says, before she even opens her mouth. He smells burnt skin and raw meat. Lingering at the back of his throat, like a meal about to come back up?

 But what did she say? When the stumps of his hands tried to tug on the chain?

 He knows she said something. But he can only remember how the chains pulled him closer to her, rather than the other way around. 

"I'll-" he doesn't know what to say. He leans against the wall, one sore, burnt palm against the metal.

It's warm. Should the Tulpar's wall feel warm? Pulsating?

He must still be a bit asleep, even as he walks after Anya, like a shadow that she watches, looming over her shoulder, curling in on himself like that'll make him much shorter.

if you actually think about it, emu is the perfect catalyst for all of rui's strange ideas. emu loves to have fun and she loves to see others have fun and smile and she is a bit strange and thinks outside the box. rui is the same way but he's the "idea man". and emu is his cheerleader. rui goes "and what if we end this one with a giant box of fireworks going off, of course taking the proper safety precautions incase of misfire, injury, or an actual fire." and emu looks at him with sparkles in her eyes and goes "that sounds so super duper cool rui-kun!! let's do it it'll be soooo wonderhoy!" because she is just imagining the glorious explosion of sparkles and colors and how the audiences' faces will light up with surprise and joy. they both love a good out of left field way to put a smile on someone's face. also not to mention how previously rui was shunned for his extravagant ideas but not by emu. emu never has any pushback because she has 100% faith in rui to not mess anything up, to put on a good show and not hurt anyone with his ideas. of course they have nene and tsukasa to keep them in check if they get too wild but i think emu is really good for rui. rui needs someone to have complete trust in him and his ideas so that he can have fun and grow from all the things that happened in his past. emu is that someone, she matches his energy and enthusiasm levels, taking all his crazy ideas and only ever going even further with them.

Okie wait 🥹, idk if this has been done yet but completely random question. how would Dottore and the other segments spend Valentine’s Day with fragile reader? 💝

There's no doubt Dottore was the kind of guy who'd scoff and roll his eyes at all the lovey-dovey couples in the Akademiya on Valentine's Day, watching the amount of PDA skyrocket as his classmates somehow became even more insufferable. For fuck's sake, the House of Daena is for studying, not for him to go behind a bookshelf and find a couple making out. So needless to say, even when he gets into a relationship with you, his perspective on it doesn't really change. He thinks the whole thing is dumb, really. Why should he feel the need to do all of this on one "special" day (only special by societal standards) to show his appreciation for you? He'll do it on any day, he doesn't care.

You find Dottore's annoyance with Valentine's Day kind of funny, but he actually does show his love for you throughout the long time you've spent together. Little gifts and trinkets here and there, doing things for you that you didn't ask for... his efforts do not need to be concentrated into a day for you to notice. And naturally, you returned his service with your own.

If you're the kind of person who likes Valentine's Day, then you definitely make Dottore and the segments chocolates! Even if you're not good at it, and you may have botched it a couple times, you still persevere for their sake! Making a whole box for each of them would be way too much work for little old you, but thankfully you have Zandy to help you. (He always gets the most chocolates in the end, the others don't know that though).

So while Dottore and the segments didn't really care about Valentine's Day, the first time you gifted them all with your homemade chocolate they suddenly became a lot more excited for the holiday. Especially if you decide to feed them the chocolate. Or decide to tease them by eating the sweet yourself and then kissing them so they can savor the taste. Very cheeky of you, but they love it. And of course, if Valentine's Day makes you pay even more attention to them, then who are they to complain? Maybe there is some more use to this day than they realized.

I am not a nie brothers scholar nor a jgy scholar so idk how to properly put these thoughts together, but I think it's unfair to act like nie huaisang would've tried to break up nieyao. what makes the tragedy and betrayal so delicious is that meng yao was his friend. in cql, he's visibly really worried about him and is pacing outside while nmj decides to kick him out. in the novels, jgy was constantly showering nhs with gifts tailored to his interests. nie huaisang liked him and trusted him, and that ultimately makes what happens later far more interesting than if he had hated him the whole time
