thinking once again about the pussybow in which gerard tied their tie for the skirtsuit character. they could have so easily just done a windsor knot and that’s that. but it was a deliberate choice to tie it as a pussybow; it’s feminising, it’s softening— originally they were associated with the bows tied on kittens, giving it its name. but as women started to join the workforce (specifically the office which was of course a male-dominated field) it grew to be a form of defiance, a breaking of rules and dress codes.

in relation to ms. skirtsuit it really adds to the theory that while she is complicit and undeniably fascistic since she works under the dictator, there is a good chance she will be insubordinate and, like the pussybow, defiant to his rules. we’ve already seen how she finds herself exempt from His Grand Immortality— the way she didn’t get up to stand and wait as he entered the room the way mr. carnation and the politician did, the way she didn’t even turn to look when the opera singer sang. What i’m trying to say is as the story progresses I wouldn’t be surprised to see her end up as a sort of anti-hero. definitely not a good person, but works against the flow of the death machine.

Spite, pettiness, and cookie dough have been fueling me this week.

Thanks for all the support. It's been rough. It'll get harder before it gets better. I do want to clear up one misconception/disinformation about federal employees: this is not about returning to the office or teleworking. The majority of us do not care whether we work from home or we go to the office. This is about who's going to protect and serve the American people if we can't and whether Americans will be protected and served their benefits/services/goods if we're not here.

Anyway. Onwards and upwards together, as we've been saying all week.

First up...this poll certainly aged well.

Like I said: spite and pettiness. I enjoyed seeing Kate out and about twice this week. Not a fan of this dress - it's the pussybow for me.

Second up, I've decided that people who are perturbed by William's football enthusiasm are people who don't understand a) what it's like when your favorite team is playing well or that b) your own personal interests and hobbies don't stop just because you're married or you have kids or you have a job or you're someone else's caretaker.

If you're going to pick on William for going to football matches, then don't forget to pick on the other royals for indulging in their own hobbies like riding, watercolor painting, and going to the spa in India.

Whoops, I forgot. William's hobby is inappropriate and improper because it involves mingling with the unwashed commonfolk in public instead of something he does on his private estates hiding away from everyone.
