Sparks sound so European to me. I swear Russel Mael has a european accent when he's singing. So many of their songs have lyrics in French or whatever. One of their albums is just a Swedish radio musical. When I found out they weren't European I was SHOCKED. I didn't even refer to them as Sparks in my head, they were just 'that European band'. When I tell someone about Sparks, I lie and say they are European.

Russell Mael talks about the experience of performing onstage with Sparks (2017):

“It’s a spacey sort of feeling each time you go onstage, at least for me… You kind of say, ‘why am I subjecting myself to… putting myself out there in front of a lot of people?’ And then I’m nervous and afraid and have anxieties… and, what’s the intrigue? Why would anybody put themselves through that experience? And then you go onstage, and everybody is loving you, and then you understand why you subjected yourself to all that anxiety. Everyone who hasn’t tried going on a stage, should go on a stage sometime if given the chance- I highly recommend it!”

One of the amusing things that happened at this evening's show was Ron having to leave the stage to get his ear monitors sorted (he'd been fiddling with them in the first couple of songs and obviously wasn't happy with them).

Which wasn't funny in and of itself, but Russell deciding to play 'let's guess where Ron is' to fill in time definitely was. Suggestions included shopping or the toilet. And then Russell decided to do a Giorgio Moroder joke 'Giorgio Moroder walks into a bar and says:' boys, I need a hit'' (not necessarily funny but it is what he says).

Ron also stuck his arm back onto the edge of the stage to wave at some point.

I'm hoping someone puts footage of it up for everyone to enjoy, but I love the look on Russell's face as he tries to work out how to fill the time. And then Ron came back and said rumours of him needing to visit the bathroom were untrue.

The whole thing was very silly and sweet.
