May 2022
In a surprising turn of events, collegiate basketball powerhouse UConn has just secured a major coup with the addition of Y/N L/N to their roster. Y/N, once hailed as one of the brightest prospects in the 2021 recruiting class, has announced her decision to transfer from Arizona to UConn.
The news of Y/N's transfer from Arizona to UConn has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking speculation and excitement about the impact she will have on her new team. The timing of Y/N's decision, coming just weeks after the Wildcat's loss to UConn in the NCAA tournament, has led some to speculate about the impact of that defeat on her choice to transfer.
At UConn, Y/N will join a storied basketball program led by legendary coach Geno Auriemma. The Huskies, known for their tradition of excellence and strong team culture, offer Y/N the opportunity for a fresh start and a chance to rediscover her passion for the game.
"We're thrilled to welcome Y/N to the UConn family," says head coach Geno Auriemma. "She's a dynamic player with a bright future ahead of her, and we can't wait to see what she brings to the team."
──
March 2022
The buzzer echoed throughout the court and the UConn girls cheered loudly as they ran up to their teammates on the bench. You felt a lump form in your throat as you swallowed back the tears, your emotions threatening to overwhelm you.
Slumping onto the bench, you buried your face in your hands, the sting of tears threatening to overwhelm you. It wasn't just about the loss, though that certainly stung ─ it was the culmination of months of frustration, of feeling like you were fighting an uphill battle with no end in sight.
You had come to the U of A with high hopes and big dreams, but somewhere along the way, it had all started to unravel. Your coach, once a source of inspiration, now felt like an obstacle standing in the way of your growth. And the teammates, once friends and supposed allies, now seemed more like strangers, each focused solely on their own ambitions.
Inside the locker room, the atmosphere was heavy. Players sat in silence, their faces reflecting a mixture of disappointment and frustration. Coach Johnson's voice cut through the silence, his words measured and deliberate as he addressed the team.
"Look, we gave it our all out there," he began, his tone firm. "But sometimes, the game just doesn't go our way. That's fine, there's always next year and we'll come back strong. Practice is still on for tomorrow morning, 5am to 9am"
Coach Johnson's announcement of another early morning practice felt like a punch to the gut. It was a reminder of everything that had gone wrong, of the sacrifices you had made in pursuit of a dream that no longer felt like your own.
As your teammates exchanged weary glances, you felt a surge of frustration rising within you. Was this all there was to it? Endless hours of practice, sacrifices made in pursuit of a goal that felt increasingly out of reach?
As the team dispersed, heading back to their dorms and apartments, you lingered in the locker room, the weight of the decision you had been wrestling with growing heavier with each passing moment. It wasn't just about one tough loss or a grueling practice schedule ─ it was about reclaiming your sense of purpose, your love for the game that had once been your escape.
"Fuck," you grumbled as you felt the tears fall. You sniffled as you got up from the bench, reaching for your backpack as you began walking out of the locker-room.
You heard the court doors open and some laughter, you held your breath as you ignored the annoyance that filled your stomach. You focused on your feet as you walked, not really watching where you were heading until─you collided with someone, jolting you out of your reverie.
"Oh shit, my bad," the blonde's voice echoed as she glanced at her teammates, giving you a thin lipped smile as she recognized you from the game. She was wearing a UConn jersey as she steadied you with a hand on your shoulder. "Sorry,"
You nodded quickly, wiping your eyes and trying to compose yourself. "You're good," you muttered, avoiding her gaze.
The blonde hesitated for a moment before offering a genuine smile. "Hey, you're a good player. We were all impressed out there. Keep your head up."
You managed a small smile in return. "Thanks."
As she rejoined her teammates and they disappeared down the hallway, you felt a strange mixture of emotions ─ regret for the loss, but also a flicker of hope from her unexpected kindness.
──
"What are you suggesting?" You asked as you met Coach Lindsay's gaze, your expression confused as she sighed ─ you knew what she was suggesting. "A transfer?"
Lindsay nodded, her expression somber. "I hate to say it, Y/N, but I think it might be the best option for you," she said, her voice gentle but firm. "It's clear that things haven't been working out here at Arizona. The coach, the team dynamic and now the whole Alyssa thing... it's all been weighing you down."
You let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through your hair. The idea of transferring had been lingering in the back of your mind for weeks now, but hearing it spoken aloud made it feel all too real.
"I just don't know if I can do it," you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. "I've put so much into this program. Leaving feels like admitting defeat."
Lindsay reached out and placed a hand on your shoulder, her touch reassuring. "It's not about admitting defeat, Y/N. It's about taking control of your own happiness. You deserve to be somewhere where you can thrive, where you can be supported and valued for who you are."
Her words struck a chord deep within you. For too long, you had allowed yourself to be consumed by the expectations of others, sacrificing your own well-being in pursuit of a dream that no longer felt attainable.
Lindsay hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I'm not supposed to say anything but I've heard talk about UConn being interested in you. They've got a great program, and Coach Geno is one of the best. All you have to do is agree and just trust in the process, babe."
"UConn?" you repeated, the word feeling foreign yet oddly enticing on your tongue.
Lindsay nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Yeah. I mean, nothing's set in stone, but it could be worth exploring. Just think about it, Y/N. You will get drafted to the WNBA if you are at a powerhouse like UConn, especially with your talent."
You couldn't believe it ─ your own assistant coach was telling you to transfer. Was your situation at Arizona truly as bad as Lindsay seemed to suggest? You glanced around the locker room, the familiar sights and sounds suddenly feeling suffocating. Had it really come to this? Were things truly as toxic as they seemed, or were you just overreacting?
As you thought about her words, memories of the past few months flooded your mind ─ the grueling practices, the weird relationships (if you could even call them that) with teammates, the constant pressure to perform. Each moment felt like a weight dragging you down, sapping away your passion and drive.
And yet, amidst the uncertainty, there was a glimmer of hope. The possibility of a fresh start at UConn, of rediscovering your love for the game and reaching your full potential felt right.
Lindsay's voice broke through your thoughts, pulling you back to the present. "I know it's a lot to take in, Y/N. But sometimes, the hardest decisions lead to the greatest rewards. Just trust in yourself and follow your heart."
"Maybe you're right," you admitted, the words feeling like a weight lifted from your shoulders. "Maybe it's time for a change."
Lindsay smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "I'm proud of you, Y/N. It takes courage to admit when something isn't working and to take steps to change it. Whatever you decide, just know that I'll be here to support you every step of the way."
🚨 ESPN | BREAKING: Top Prospect Y/N L/N Commits to UConn Transfer 🚨 Y/N L/N, widely regarded as one of the most promising players in the 2021 recruiting class, joins UConn with high expectations. With UConn's storied basketball program and renowned head coach Geno Auriemma at the helm, Y/N's transfer promises to shake up the landscape of women's college basketball.
You glanced down at the notification on your phone, a nervous knot forming in the pit of your stomach. The news of your transfer had spread like wildfire, and now, seeing it plastered across the screen of your phone, it felt all too real.
You took a deep breath, reminding yourself of the reasons behind your decision to transfer. The toxic atmosphere at Arizona, the strained relationships with teammates, the relentless pressure from coaches ─ it had all taken its toll, slowly suffocating your love for the game.
But now, with the opportunity to join UConn, you felt a flicker of hope reignite within you. Here was a chance for a fresh start, a chance to rediscover your passion for basketball and thrive in an environment where your talents would be appreciated and nurtured.
──
"Okay, listen up!" Coach Geno's voice echoed throughout the room, earning the attention of the girls on the team. You stood by the shorter man and somehow, you still felt small underneath his towering presence.
"As you all know," Coach Geno continued, his eyes scanning the faces of each player, "we've got a new addition to the team. Y/N, I want you to know that you're not just joining a team here at UConn ─ you're joining a family. We look out for each other, we support each other, and we push each other to be the best we can be."
"You guys all already know who she is, I know you did your research." His lips quirked up into a small smile as the girls exchanged amused glances within the team. A ripple of laughter spread through the room at his remark, breaking the tension and easing the nerves that had been swirling in your stomach.
"As for you, Y/N," Coach Geno continued, turning his attention back to you, "I want you to know that we're thrilled to have you here. Your talent speaks for itself, but what's even more important is your commitment to the team and your willingness to work hard."
As Coach Geno's words sank in, you couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement mixed with a hint of nervousness. Being welcomed into the UConn family by none other than Coach Geno himself was an honor beyond words.
With Coach Geno's words echoing in your mind, you joined your teammates in a huddle, ready to embark on this new chapter of your life. And as the team broke apart with a chant, you couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation for the season ahead.
──
"And uh, don't eat Azzi's protein bars. She gets angry when she doesn't get her gainz," Paige remarked as Azzi sent her a glare. Everyone at the table giggled at that as you nodded, glancing toward Azzi.
Azzi sighed. "I think that's like common courtesy, P. Y/N knows better than that,"
"Of course, Azzi. I'll make sure to steer clear of your protein bars," you replied with a playful grin, earning a relieved smile from Azzi in return.
"What else..." Paige hummed as she ate chewed on her food, glancing around the table.
"Oh wait, I got one. If Coach tells you to run suicides, just do them without complaining," Aaliyah chimed in, her tone teasing but with a hint of seriousness.
"And make sure you hydrate," Nika added with a smirk, raising her water bottle in emphasis. "Especially during those conditioning drills Coach loves to throw at us."
As laughter erupted around the table, you couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie and belonging among your new teammates. "Of course, of course."
"And don't come to practice hungover, Coach will notice and he'll force everyone to run laps," Paige added as she shivered, earning a laugh from Aubrey. "Better for everyone if you just skip,"
"I think you need that advice more than anyone, Paige," Aubrey added as she nudged Paige playfully, eliciting more laughter from the group.
Paige mock-glared at Aubrey before joining in the laughter herself. "Hey, I've learned my lesson the hard way. Trust me, nobody wants to run laps hungover. I'm tryna make sure she doesn't get too carried away, she's from U of A, that's like party central."
You shrugged, a smile playing on your lips. "She's not wrong, if there's one thing I'll miss it'll be the insane parties at Kappa Sigma."
"Ooh, so you're a frat girly?" Aaliyah teased, raising an eyebrow playfully as she leaned in with interest.
You laughed, shaking your head. "Not exactly. Frat boys aren't really my thing," you smiled as you looked down at your plate. "Neither are guys, really."
Paige hummed in response as she smirked, raising her cup in a mock toast as Aaliyah's eyebrows shot up in surprise, but her expression quickly softened into understanding. "Ah, got it. Well, good thing UConn has plenty of other things to offer besides frat parties."
"Yeah, like winning championships," Nika chimed in with a grin, nudging you playfully. "And having the best teammates in the world," she continued, earning a chorus of laughs and "awws".
"Look at Nika getting all sappy," Paige mocked as Nika sent her a glare, earning another round of laughter from the table.
Nika rolled her eyes but couldn't hide the smile tugging at her lips. "Okay, shut up Paige,"
"No, you first."
"I asked first, Paige."
"I don't care, shut up."
"No, you-"
"Okay, that's enough." Azzi sent you a thin-lipped smile as you laughed, enjoying the playful banter between Paige and Nika.
You felt yourself settle into the team more and more with each passing moment, the laughter and camaraderie of your teammates easing any lingering nerves or doubts. As you listened to their stories and shared your own, you couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging wash over you.
These were your teammates, your friends, your family away from home. And as you laughed and joked with them, you knew that you had found a place where you truly belonged.

🎾 Jupiter vs. Venus: The Duel of Gurus. 🏅
Tumblr media
In the infinite drama of the cosmos, two larger-than-life forces play the role of celestial teachers: Jupiter (Brihaspati) and Venus (Shukracharya). These two aren’t just gurus—they’re the ultimate life coaches, each with their unique vibes. Jupiter is the philosopher who hands you a map to enlightenment, while Venus is the savvy mentor who teaches you how to conquer the world and look fabulous doing it.
But wait—there’s more to Shukracharya than just luxury and indulgence. He wasn’t only the guru of the asuras; he was a healer extraordinaire, the cosmic doctor who literally brought the dead back to life with the Sanjeevani mantra. So, while Jupiter gives you the wisdom to transcend, Venus might just save your skin (and soul) when things go south.
Let’s dig deeper into this ultimate cosmic clash of the titans and see how their wisdom, morals, and approach to life shape their disciples.
🎓 Knowledge: Universal Truths vs. Practical Skills
Jupiter’s Wisdom: Jupiter’s knowledge is like a sacred text—ancient, profound, and illuminating. As the guru of the devas, he specializes in timeless wisdom that transcends the material world. He’s your go-to for unlocking the mysteries of dharma (duty), moksha (liberation), and the universe’s ultimate purpose. Think philosophy, ethics, and everything that makes you go, “Wow, life is deeper than I thought.”
Venus’s Knowledge: Venus is the practical genius who hands you a toolkit for mastering life’s complexities. From diplomacy to healing, Shukracharya doesn’t just teach you how to survive—he teaches you how to thrive. His lessons are rooted in the art of living: navigating relationships, enjoying material pleasures, and even harnessing the secrets of immortality. He’s the cosmic mix of a life coach and a healer, ensuring you’re prepared for anything life throws your way.
⚖️ Morals: Righteousness vs. Pragmatism
Jupiter’s Morality: Jupiter is all about the straight and narrow. He champions dharma and universal harmony, even if it means personal sacrifice. He’s the teacher who insists that doing the right thing is non-negotiable, no matter how tough it gets. With Jupiter, it’s always about the bigger picture.
Venus’s Morality: Venus operates in the real world, where things aren’t always black and white. His moral compass is more flexible, designed to help you navigate life’s gray areas. Shukracharya understands that sometimes bending the rules is necessary for survival—and that’s okay. His pragmatism is his strength, making him relatable and incredibly effective.
💎 The Hedonist vs. The Ascetic
Venus: The Sensual Healer Venus doesn’t shy away from the material world; he embraces it. He teaches that beauty, luxury, and pleasure aren’t distractions—they’re part of the human experience. But Venus is more than a connoisseur of indulgence; as a healer, he shows how to channel these desires into personal growth. His mastery of the Sanjeevani mantra highlights his deep understanding of life and death, proving that he’s not just about the good times—he’s about second chances too.
Jupiter: The Ascetic Sage Jupiter is the spiritual minimalist, urging you to detach from desires and focus on higher truths. He’s the guru who reminds you that fleeting pleasures pale in comparison to eternal peace. While Venus heals your body and mind, Jupiter seeks to heal your soul by guiding you beyond the illusions of the material world.
🌌 Life’s Approach: Harmony vs. Mastery
Jupiter’s Path: Jupiter leads with faith, devotion, and the pursuit of inner peace. His approach is about finding harmony within yourself and with the universe. His teachings encourage gratitude and humility, aligning your actions with the greater cosmic order.
Venus’s Path: Venus believes in mastering the art of life. Whether it’s relationships, success, or overcoming obstacles, Shukracharya equips you to excel in the material realm. His lessons emphasize empowerment and resilience, reminding you that even in chaos, there’s beauty—and power.
If Jupiter is the grand monastery, steeped in philosophy and higher learning, Venus is the opulent palace ballroom, alive with music, dance, and earthly pleasures. Jupiter’s domain is the university lecture hall, a sanctuary of timeless wisdom, while Venus presides over the art gallery, where beauty and creativity are celebrated. Jupiter governs the sanctum of a temple, a space for introspection and spiritual growth, whereas Venus sparkles in the marketplace, where life’s sensual joys and connections unfold. Each represents a world of its own: Jupiter uplifts the soul, and Venus enchants the senses
Tumblr media
The Verdict 💫
So, here’s the cosmic tea: Jupiter and Venus aren’t competing; they’re balancing forces. Jupiter offers the wisdom to transcend life, while Venus gives you the skills to embrace and heal within it. Jupiter is the sage who helps you unlock eternal truths, and Venus is the healer and mentor who ensures you enjoy the ride and survive the bumps along the way.
Are you drawn to Jupiter’s lofty ideals or Venus’s grounded guidance? Let me know—Team Jupiter or Team Venus? ✨

I had an ask about this regarding my AU but I don't know what happened to it after I saw it in my inbox cuz it might be tumblr being funny but essentially it was just:
"Does West Coast Tech still exist? Why didn't Ford go to West Coast Tech?"
Short answer is, he simply didn't want to in this AU. West Coast Tech is among the Ivy Leagues in my AU and BMU still exists too, it still has the prominent reputation of being a back-up university.
In this AU ultimately Ford never really developed the mindset that he was "special" and had to make a point of it or prove that he was somebody. Because of their upbringing, there wasn't a "preference" others had towards either twin because Filbrick disliked them equally and their academic and extracurricular skills basically made them break even. There wasn't a stupid twin/smart twin between them and Caryn made damn sure about it.
Possibly the only thing that most people say about the two is that they're "smart but stupid" because of all the trouble they get wrapped up in doing whatever or being too curious for their own good.
The teachers or coaches didn't favor one twin over the other either and they were generally liked by their peers. Ford didn't end up with that sense of arrogance that you can typically see in canon where he believes he is above the rest and he has to be and Stan didn't develop that inferiority complex compared to his sibling.
In this AU, Ford had the option to go to West Coast Tech but even throughout senior high he already knew that a good university could really only get you so far. He was a sharp tool yes, but... he didn't think that edge would really push him far. He had an edge, but it wasn't much.
There's a lot of gifted people nowadays and even good credentials aren't going to guarantee a decent job or a stable career, that's if you can even get a job right away.
The science project and everything was still what gave him the opportunity and Stan even congratulated him for scoring that high but Ford wasn't really pleased? I'm not sure with the word but he wasn't exactly happy with the circumstance. They didn't fight over it considering all throughout highschool they kept talking about potential careers and whatnot.
It didn't help that Filbrick encouraged the idea of West Coast Tech because of how much money Ford could potentially make. Even so, Ford was stupidly skeptical after seeing the pamphlet and researching online. Realistically it seemed too good to be true, and he couldn't even sleep on it from how much he kept thinking.
Stan knew he would likely take longer to figure things out but he'd get there, and he was willing to let Ford just reach for the stars as he always did. They still have that dream of sailing around the world as adults but it's a lot more defined and realistic compared to how they planned it in canon. They're thinking, work hard, get rich, then retire early to sail and travel around the world. If their paths split early, they'll find a way back when they grow up. They always do.
It's something they constantly talk about because they both desperately want to move out after graduation just to get the hell away from Filbrick. It doesn't matter where they end up they just need to get away.
Even so, Ford mulled over the offer and decided to visit the university before making his decision. His gut feeling was both parts right and wrong, sure— what he thought was too good to be true was the actual reality of the school and it's pursuit of academic excellence, but he was right to be skeptical after he noticed the snobbish and arrogant nature most of the students have. It's a common thing for ivy leagues to have that mentality that they're the cream of the crop. The best there is. Not everybody is like this of course, but sometimes the loudest crowd doesn't always have to be the majority.
It does take a lot of work to get to their level and to stay at that level but Ford couldn't see himself in that school. He didn't want to allow himself into that crowd where he knew it would potentially make him worse off as a person. Also, he had the entirety of undergrad to get through, if he so much as wanted to transfer to an Ivy League to get his masters or doctorate he knew he could! So what was the rush?
University was a stepping stone and he had time, he knew he could do a lot but he didn't need to rush. So... Ford turned down the offer.
Sadly, it was pretty much as chaotic(bad) as you'd think.
Of course, that meant looking for another university instead and it was mostly Stan who did the research this time because Ford was too burnt out and sulky after everything. He knew he made the choice that would inherently grant him more happiness, but it doesn't always feel like that right away and it didn't help that the walls were paper thin. It's hard to fall asleep to your parents yelling and throwing things around in a fight because of a decision you made.
Both of them had generally pretty good track records academically and a long list of achievements to follow it so it wasn't hard for them to find universities either. That's how they ended up with Graviton University in Oregon, it's not an Ivy-league but it's not as bad as BMU either. It really is just a stepping stone in the middle, your performance practically shapes the path you walk on.
The Stan twins have a choice in this AU mostly because they could also afford it, take note- the family is financially comfortable in this AU because Filbrick is one hell of an unscrupulous businessman but very successful. They're not rich but they're comfortable, and that's a lot in the state of the economy nowadays.
Ford has choices in this AU and it's also a very big part to play in why he could turn down the offer at the time and not look back at it with regret. Stan also being on even ground beside his brother is why they don't ever fight about such topics either, he's not ever chasing after Ford— he's standing right next to him.
The subtle differences from canon can genuinely just make a world of difference in the bigger picture. But yeah, it's why I had them go to Graviton University instead. It's a middle-ground and it's also how I can essentially get them to stay in gravity falls instead of ending up elsewhere when I cranked the "weirdness" level pretty low. There's still bits and bobs of it around, but not to the degree of the canon show I would think.
I hope this generally clears up how I wrote or my thought process as to why I didn't have Ford reach for the stars despite having that option and why the Stan Twins are generally this tight knit in my AU.

The Family Dynamic: Hughes!Sister
Author: @cw-coffeeandice
Title: The Family Dynamic
Summary: a brief introduction to the Hughes family.
Comment: As a lifelong hockey fan, I'm stepping into new territory by sharing my writing for the first time. For 2025, I’ve decided to put my creative skills to the test and see where this journey takes me. While I’ve often written short stories for fun, I’ve never shared the worlds I’ve created with others—until now. I’m excited to see how this evolves.
If you enjoyed this, please feel free to let me know through an ask, comment, or reblog. I’m always open to prompts, suggestions, and feedback!
Please note this writing is unedited
Jim is the quintessential hockey dad. When he wasn’t working or coaching, he could always be found at the rink with his kids. As a coach, Jim was disciplined and no-nonsense, instilling a sense of structure and responsibility that benefitted all four of his children. He was the supportive, steady presence at home, leaving the day-to-day discipline to his wife, Ellen. Watching his children grow into incredible young adults, both on and off the ice, filled Jim with immense pride and gratitude for everything his wife sacrificed to make their kid's dreams come true.
Ellen is the backbone of the family—a full-time mom to a handful of hyperenergetic, fiercely competitive kids. Managing their schoolwork and hockey schedules and keeping them all alive (which, some days, she and Jim called a miracle) was no easy feat. But Ellen thrived in the chaos. She was fiercely proud of her children, watching her boys grow into accomplished young men while her daughter carved out her own legacy.
Quinn, the eldest, was the responsible, rule-following perfectionist of the family. He thrived on structure and order, dedicated to following rules to the letter. As the older brother, he was protective of his younger siblings, often taking it upon himself to enforce the rules he believed everyone should follow. As he grew, hockey became second nature to him—both a mental and physical pursuit. Quinn loved studying the game, honing his skills, and constantly working to improve on the ice. He wasn’t the most outgoing of the siblings, but he preferred it that way, enjoying the sense of calm that came with his focused, introverted nature.
Jack, the middle child, was born to challenge Quinn. A natural social butterfly and a bit of a rebel, Jack loved testing boundaries, whether with his older brother, his parents, or his coaches. He was the glue of the family. Though he often instigated conflict, he was also the one who stepped in to resolve it. Jack had a unique relationship with each member of the family, always making time for the people he loved, no matter how busy life got. On the ice, Jack worked hard to develop his skills, but hockey never felt like a chore. It came naturally to him, and he thrived on dominating the game. The best part was sharing those wins with his brothers.
Luke, the youngest of the boys, was the family’s comic relief. The most easygoing of the children, Luke had a gift for making his family laugh, often in the most unexpected ways. His biggest concern was simply trying to keep up with his older brothers—though this often led to humorous situations. Like Quinn, Luke excelled at defensive play on the ice. He and his younger sister, Hannah, were so close in age that they were practically raised as twins. That closeness did create a special bond.
Hannah, the youngest and only girl, was a surprise—so much so that Ellen considered permanent birth control, and Jim eventually got a vasectomy. As the only girl in a hockey-focused family, Hannah was often compared to her older brothers. Initially, the comparisons didn’t bother her, but it became clear that women’s hockey was not always treated the same as the men’s game. Despite these differences, Hannah had made peace with the path she would take in hockey. She loved the game, and that passion was enough to fuel her desire to continue playing. The ice was her sanctuary, where she could define success in her own way.

Kiss & Cry vol.50 Shoma Uno x Stéphane Lambiel Special Cross Interview An "I love you" to figure skating
Shoma Uno is facing the 2023-2024 season with the goal of "pursuing expression". What does "expression" really mean to him, and what does he have in mind beyond that? We spoke to Uno and his coach Stéphane Lambiel.
[T/N: italics denote narration, regular text direct quotes. Please do not repost the translation elsewhere.]
What the two of them think about 'expression'. Shoma Uno won consecutive World Championships. In the 2023-2024 season, which is themed around the pursuit of expressiveness, he performs the short program from the movie 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'" choreographed by his coach Stéphane Lambiel, and the free program "Timelapse" choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto. How does Uno feel about his improvement in expressive ability now that he is more than halfway through the season? And as a coach, how does Lambiel see him? We talked to them on the day after the NHK Trophy FS.
To Coach Lambiel, what made you decide to use this song in the short program?
Stéphane: The program is a combination of three pieces from the movie soundtrack. The song I used at the beginning was originally in my big playlist, but what made me decide to use it for the program was when I was on a plane and watched the movie. I enjoyed the music from the film, enjoyed the movement, thought 'this is interesting,' and felt inspired. I originally had an idea that 'it would be interesting if Shoma moved like this', by mixing music with a bit of spirit to match the smoothness of his skating. When I started choreographing, he moved just as I had envisioned. That's how the program was created.
Shoma: Stéphane's choreography is difficult every year, but I have the impression that this season's choreography is easy for my body to get used to. Even without practicing it that much, my body got used to it from the beginning.
Stéphane: He projects the world I imagined into reality.
Shoma: The free is more difficult than the short. The music is unique and difficult. Up until now, in the second half of the program there was a part where the music got more exciting, but since this is not the case here, I have to practice much more to make up for it.
In the interview after the short, you said that you admired Coach Lambiel as an expressive performer. What specific aspects would you like to incorporate?
Shoma: I don't have the skills to incorporate Stéphane's performance, so it would be impossible for me to do so. As a coach, Stéphane gives me advice, saying, 'You should do this more,' and 'I want you to move with this kind of image.' I want to take in his words and do my best to embody them within what I can do.
Stéphane: There is no doubt that Shoma is a skater who naturally excels at expression. I think of 'expression' in this way; it may be something you are born with, or it may be something you cultivate. Either way, it's some kind of 'language'. Whether it's through words, music, or movement, I believe that it's about having a desire to convey something to the other person, conveying one's inner feelings, it's a communication between the person giving the message and the person receiving it. Shoma has that, and more importantly, he has the strength to move forward with determination in whatever he decides to do.
Speaking about expression, coach Lambiel touched upon the NHK Trophy.
Stéphane: There's one thing that remained in my heart from this NHK Trophy. The moment Shoma finished his performance, he first looked at me. I felt he conveyed a feeling of wanting to ask, 'How was my performance?' At that moment, from the bottom of my heart, I felt honored to have a student like this. I also felt that he treats figure skating with honesty, purity, and love. Inside me, there is no doubt that he's a hero.
[T/N: in-text narration of the NHK performances] Coach Lambiel's eyes were filled with tears as he reminisced about the NHK Trophy, as if deep, uncontrollable emotions were coming forth. At the NHK Trophy, Uno showed stunning performances that drew the audience in both the short and free skates. He captivated the audience with the emotion in his expression, creating a world of stillness or tranquillity. A standing ovation was inevitable. This showed the improvement of his expressive power, which he had been striving for this season. In the free skate, however, since all four of his quadruple jumps were marked with a "Q",  indicating a 90 degree underrotation, he finished in second place overall. The judgment of underrotation, which was clearly unusual compared to the way jumps were judged in previous competitions, put a damper on that good performance. Coach Lambiel must have felt that Uno's performance was excellent, as shown by the long hug he gave him after the free skate, and he could not hold back his emotions at the judging.
This is what Uno said about it.
Shoma: It had been a short time since Cup of China, but I was able to show the results of my practice, and I thought Stéphane must have been happy, so I was myself very happy when I finished my performance. Now, seeing how depressed Stéphane got [at the score] makes me feel glad he is my coach. However, no matter how good a performance is, if it doesn't get a good score, it will be seen as a bad performance. That saddens me too, and it also hurts to see Stéphane being sad. I don't like to put on a facade when I'm talking in public, but I think that saying exactly what you think isn't always a good thing, and it can also make you enemies. But I've been living my life this way, and the people around me, first of all those here like Stéphane, Demi-san, and my manager, understand my efforts and what I really value, and I'm really happy that there are people who can be happy with me. Figure skating competitions are scored by people, so I don't think there's anyone at fault. Right now I just feel so lucky to have been blessed with the people around me.
The All Japan Championship 2023 will begin on December 20th.
Shoma: "I believe that my performance at the NHK Trophy was wonderful, so I want to continue to do this kind of performance in the future. Otherwise, wouldn't this performance be wasted? People only pay attention to my statements and my scores, and don't realize that it was a good performance. I think it would be a waste for it to end like that, so I hope to perform as well as I did this time at the Japanese Nationals."
Stéphane: He is a person who can realize what he sets his mind to. He will decide for himself which direction he wants to take in life, and I don't doubt that he can succeed. That's an unshakeable conviction for me."
That was a praise grounded in unconditional love.
[T/N: yes they really ended the article like that]

Do you know the story of a man who turned the swimming pool into his personal stage, a man who not only conquered the water but rewrote Olympic history with every stroke? Let’s dive into the remarkable journey of Mark Spitz, a name that echoes through the annals of sports greatness. His legacy didn’t begin with his famous seven gold medals at the 1972 Munich Olympics—that was merely the grand finale. The seeds of his dominance were planted much earlier, in the unlikeliest of places, at the 1965 Maccabiah Games in Israel. At just 15 years old, Spitz stormed the competition, winning four gold medals and being crowned the most outstanding athlete of the Games. Little did the world know, this teenager from California would soon become a global icon.
Fast forward to 1968, and Spitz, already a world record holder, confidently predicted he would win six gold medals at the Mexico City Olympics. Bold? Absolutely. But the result? A humbling experience. He left with "only" two golds, a silver, and a bronze—a remarkable haul for most athletes, but not for Spitz. That setback didn't break him; it made him hungrier. He chose to train under legendary coach Doc Counsilman at Indiana University, a decision he later called "the best of my life." Spitz honed his skills, dominating college swimming and setting the stage for a historic comeback.
By the time the 1972 Munich Olympics arrived, Spitz was ready to cement his legacy. And he didn’t just meet expectations—he shattered them. Seven events. Seven gold medals. Seven world records. Spitz was unstoppable, becoming the face of the Games and a hero to millions. But behind the triumph was a chilling undercurrent. The Munich Massacre, in which 11 Israeli athletes were taken hostage and murdered by terrorists, cast a dark shadow over the Games. Being Jewish himself, Spitz was rushed out of Germany for his safety, escorted by U.S. Marines. His departure from Munich was abrupt, but his impact was eternal.
Spitz’s record of seven gold medals in a single Olympics stood unchallenged until Michael Phelps broke it in 2008. Yet, the legacy of "Mark the Shark" is more than just numbers. He symbolized excellence, resilience, and the ability to rise from disappointment to achieve greatness. Even after retirement, his influence continued. In 1985, he lit the torch at the Maccabiah Games, and in 2005, he spoke at the JCC Maccabiah Games in Virginia, inspiring a new generation of athletes.
Spitz’s comeback attempt for the 1992 Olympics may not have been successful, but it showed his undying passion for the sport. The world may remember him for his seven golds, but his story is a tapestry of early triumphs, redemption arcs, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. His journey is a reminder that greatness isn't just about winning—it's about rising, falling, and rising again.
Mark Spitz didn’t just swim; he carved his name into history with each powerful stroke, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire swimmers and athletes worldwide. His story is one of dreams realized, challenges overcome, and records that seemed untouchable—until a young man named Michael Phelps came along. But even then, the legend of "Mark the Shark" remains as vibrant as ever.

“Now, the Best Should Be Our Standard” — Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore
Tumblr media
In a world where mediocrity is often tolerated, the call to elevate our standards is both timely and essential. Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore’s statement, “Now, the best should be our standard,” is more than just a motivational slogan — it’s a vision for a future built on excellence, innovation, and unwavering commitment to progress.
This philosophy extends to every sphere of life, from governance and infrastructure to individual aspirations and community development. Let’s explore what this powerful statement means and how it can serve as a guiding principle for growth.
The Pursuit of Excellence: Why It Matters
Striving for “the best” is not just about achieving success; it’s about setting benchmarks that inspire others and create a ripple effect of progress. Here’s why adopting excellence as a standard is crucial:
Fostering Innovation: When we aim for the best, we push the boundaries of what’s possible, encouraging creativity and breakthroughs.
Building Trust: High standards in public service and governance earn the trust and respect of citizens, laying the foundation for a stronger society.
Driving Sustainable Development: Excellence ensures that resources are utilized effectively, resulting in long-term benefits for communities.
Inspiring Generations: A culture of striving for the best motivates future generations to dream bigger and achieve more.
Leading by Example: Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore’s Vision
As a leader, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore embodies the principle of setting and meeting high standards. His initiatives in various sectors reflect a relentless commitment to bettering lives and ensuring that the communities he serves have access to the very best.
Take, for example, the installation of hand pumps in Jhotwara. While this may seem like a basic need, the approach to ensuring quality and sustainability underscores his vision of excellence. It’s not just about installing pumps — it’s about building a resilient and reliable system that truly serves the people.
Applying “The Best Standard” in Key Areas
Education: Providing world-class education ensures that young minds are equipped to compete on a global stage. From upgrading school infrastructure to introducing cutting-edge digital learning tools, the best should be the benchmark in shaping future leaders.
Healthcare: Accessible, high-quality healthcare can transform lives. By improving hospitals, equipping them with the latest technologies, and training medical professionals to excel, we can ensure the well-being of every citizen.
Infrastructure Development: Projects like roads, public facilities, and water systems must not only meet the immediate needs of the community but also be durable and future-proof. The best standard in infrastructure goes beyond functionality — it ensures efficiency, sustainability, and aesthetic value.
Sports and Youth Development: As a former Olympic medalist, Col. Rathore knows the value of excellence in sports. Investing in world-class training facilities, coaching, and talent identification programs can help young athletes achieve their full potential.
Governance and Public Service: Transparency, accountability, and responsiveness should define governance. The best standard here means a government that is not just functional but transformative, empowering citizens at every level.
Challenges to Overcome
Achieving excellence is not without its hurdles. Limited resources, resistance to change, and deeply ingrained practices of settling for “good enough” are common barriers. However, these challenges can be addressed through:
Visionary Leadership: Inspiring individuals and teams to align with a shared goal of excellence.
Community Engagement: Encouraging citizens to take ownership and actively participate in raising standards.
Leveraging Technology: Using advanced tools and systems to optimize efficiency and outcomes.
A Call to Action
Adopting “the best” as our standard is not an overnight transformation — it’s a collective journey. It begins with mindset shifts, where every individual, organization, and institution takes pride in aiming higher and delivering better.
Whether it’s in public service, education, sports, or personal goals, Col. Rathore’s words challenge us to rethink what we accept as “good enough” and instead pursue greatness. This pursuit will not only elevate individual achievements but also strengthen the fabric of our society as a whole.
The Legacy of Excellence
When the best becomes our standard, we don’t just achieve more — we inspire more. We create a culture where progress is continuous, where quality is non-negotiable, and where every effort contributes to a brighter future.
Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore’s vision is a powerful reminder that true leadership is about setting examples, raising the bar, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of excellence. It’s a call for all of us to aim higher and do better — for ourselves, for our communities, and for generations to come.
So let’s make “the best” our standard, not just in words, but in every action we take. Together, we can build a future that lives up to this ideal.

USA Women’s Basketball Makes History with Eighth Consecutive Olympic Gold, Narrowly Defeating France
Tumblr media
In a thrilling showdown that went down to the wire, the USA women’s basketball team clinched their eighth consecutive Olympic Gold medal, defeating France 67-66 in a heart-stopping final.
Center Britney Griner, overcome with emotion upon receiving her third gold medal, expressed her hope that this hard-fought victory would silence doubters who believe the team’s success comes easily. “We see everybody’s best shot,” she said. “And we saw the shot that France gave us.”
A’ja Wilson led the US with21 points, but it was a last-second buzzer-beating two-point shot ignited a joyous celebration among the American players, while the French were left in stunned disbelief.
Breanna Stewart, reflecting on the team’s historic achievement, remarked, “Eight straight golds is insane honestly. Each one is so different, and so, so special and so, so hard.”
A’ja Wilson echoed Stewart’s sentiments, expressing her pride in the team’s resilience and their ability to overcome challenges. “To say I am a two-time gold medalist, I am so blessed,” she said.
This victory marks a significant milestone, surpassing the American men’s program’s record of seven consecutive gold medals. It also represents the first time in Olympic history that both gold medal basketball games featured teams from the sam two countries.
The game was a nail biter until the very end. With 3.9 seconds left on the clock and the US up by three, France’s Marine Johannes passed the ball to Williams, who banked in a shot over Breanna Stewart. The official’s brief delay in confirming the shot as a two-pointer added to the drama, ultimately securing the US victory.
Williams, who scored 19 points for France, expressed her disappointment but also her pride in the team’s silver medal performance. “What we’ve done is inspirational,” she said.
The American players celebrated their victory with basketball legends like Lebron James, Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, and Dawn Staley, who were in attendance.
US Coach Cheryl Reeve praised the high level of athleticism and competitiveness displayed by both teams, calling it an ‘unbelievable environment.’
This win also marked a personal milestone for Diana Taurasi, who earned her sixth consecutive gold medal, making her the most decorated basketball player in Olympic history. Taurasi, who remained humble throughout the tournament, expressed her prioritization of team success over individual accolades.
In the bronze medal game, Australia narrowly defeated Belgium 85-81.
The USA women’s basketball team’s historic victory in Paris is a testament to their dedication, resilience, and unwavering pursuit of excellence. Their legacy will continue to inspire generations of athletes for years to come.

My Journey to Olympic Silver — Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore
Introduction: A Triumph of Dedication and Perseverance
Tumblr media
Early Life and Beginnings: Foundations of a Champion
Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore was born on January 30, 1970, in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India. Growing up in a family with a strong military background, he was imbued with a sense of discipline and commitment from an early age. Rathore’s initial interest in sports was evident during his school years, where he participated in various athletic events. Haechan
The morning air was crisp and invigorating, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the trees lining the track. The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting a warm glow across the field. Haechan stood at the starting line, stretching his muscles, feeling the familiar tingle of anticipation build within him. This was his sanctuary. The track was a place where the rest of the world faded away, leaving only the rhythm of his breath and the pounding of his heart. Here, he could lose himself in the pursuit of perfection, pushing his body to its limits and beyond.
Coach Kim, a veteran in the field of athletics, watched him with a keen eye. His presence was a constant source of motivation, his belief in Haechan’s potential unwavering. “Alright, Haechan,” he called out, clipboard in hand. “Let’s see what you’ve got today. Warm up, and then we’ll start with some speed intervals.”
Haechan nodded, slipping into a series of stretches and dynamic movements designed to prime his body for the exertion ahead. Each movement was precise, a carefully honed routine that prepared him for the challenges to come. The familiarity of the ritual was comforting, a reminder of how far he’d come. With the warm-up complete, Haechan took his position on the track, his mind sharpening to a singular focus. Today’s session was crucial, another step on the path to the Beijing Olympics. The pressure was immense, but it was a pressure he welcomed—an opportunity to test his mettle and prove his dedication.
“Ready?” Coach Kim asked, raising the stopwatch
Haechan crouched at the starting line, eyes fixed on the lane ahead. Every muscle in his body was taut with anticipation, ready to explode into motion.
“Go!”
He launched himself forward, legs pumping with the power of a finely tuned machine. The world blurred around him, reduced to a tunnel of focus and speed. Each stride was a testament to the hours of training and discipline, the relentless pursuit of excellence that drove him. The wind whipped past him, urging him to run faster, harder. He embraced the burn in his muscles, the fire in his lungs—it was the price of progress, the measure of his determination. Coach Kim’s voice echoed in the background, shouting encouragement and reminders to maintain form. Haechan absorbed it all, letting it fuel his efforts, driving him to greater heights.
The first interval passed in a blur, and Haechan slowed to a jog, chest heaving as he gulped down air. The rest was brief, a momentary pause before the next push. Even in those seconds, his mind remained focused, calculating how to shave precious milliseconds off his time.
“Again,” Coach Kim instructed, stopwatch ready. “Keep it tight and explosive. You’re doing great.”
Haechan nodded, wiping sweat from his brow, and returned to the starting line. The second interval began, and once more he launched himself down the track, muscles screaming in protest but heart filled with resolve. Each lap was a battle—a war waged against the clock, against the limits of his own body. But Haechan welcomed it, embraced it, for it was in these moments of struggle that he found clarity and purpose. Here, on the track, he was more than just an athlete; he was a warrior, fighting for his dreams with every stride.
As the session wore on, fatigue set in, a heavy blanket threatening to slow him down. But Haechan refused to yield. He dug deep, drawing on reserves of strength he’d built over years of dedication and sacrifice. He knew what was at stake, knew that every moment mattered in the grand scheme of his aspirations.
“Come on, Haechan, last push!” Coach Kim’s voice was a lifeline, pulling him through the haze of exhaustion. “Finish strong!”
With one final burst of speed, Haechan sprinted the last stretch, pouring everything he had into those final moments. The finish line approached, a blur of white tape that marked the end of this particular trial.
And then it was over. He stumbled to a halt, bending double as he fought to catch his breath. The exertion had left him drained, but there was a satisfaction in it, a deep-seated sense of accomplishment that made every drop of sweat worth it.
Coach Kim approached, a rare smile of approval lighting his features. “Well done, Haechan. You’re on track for something special. Keep this up, and Beijing won’t know what hit it.”
Haechan straightened, a grin spreading across his face despite the fatigue. The praise meant the world coming from Coach Kim, a validation of all the hard work and sacrifices he’d made.
“Thanks, Coach,” he replied, wiping his face with a towel. “I’ll keep pushing.”
The rest of the training session passed in a blur of drills and exercises, each one designed to hone different aspects of his performance. Haechan relished the challenge, thriving under the pressure, finding joy in the pursuit of mastery. By the time the sun had climbed higher in the sky, casting long shadows across the track, Haechan’s muscles ached with a familiar, satisfying soreness. The session had pushed him to his limits, but it had also reinforced his dedication to the path he’d chosen.
As he cooled down with a series of stretches, Haechan felt a sense of peace settle over him. The day had begun with exertion and sweat, but it was exactly where he wanted to be, exactly what he needed to feel alive and fulfilled. The Olympics were his goal, a distant star he chased with every ounce of his being. But the journey was just as important, each day a step closer to the person he wanted to become. The locker room was quiet, the steady drip of a leaky faucet the only sound breaking the silence. Haechan sat on the wooden bench, towel draped around his neck, the lingering ache of a demanding training session still present in his muscles. The air was cool against his skin, a welcome contrast to the heat and intensity of the track.
As the adrenaline of his workout ebbed away, he found himself alone with his thoughts. The solitude of the moment allowed him a rare opportunity to reflect on the path he had chosen—the sacrifices he had made in pursuit of his dreams. Athletics had always been Haechan’s passion, a calling that had demanded his full attention and unwavering dedication. Yet, the pursuit of excellence came at a cost. Friends had drifted away over time, their lives diverging from the rigorous schedule he maintained. Invitations to parties and social gatherings grew fewer, replaced by early morning runs and late-night workouts. Haechan thought about the relationships he had missed, the laughter and camaraderie that once filled his days. There was a time when he had been the life of the party, surrounded by friends and carefree adventures. Now, his world was defined by discipline and routine, every decision measured against the demands of his sport.
Despite the loneliness that sometimes crept in, Haechan knew that his sacrifices were not in vain. Each early morning on the track, each grueling session in the gym brought him closer to his goal—the chance to compete on the world stage at the Beijing Olympics. It was a dream that fueled him, a vision that burned brightly in his mind.
He thought of the future, of the possibilities that lay ahead. The sacrifices he made were a testament to his commitment, a reflection of his unwavering determination to be the best. The loneliness, though challenging, was a temporary companion on a journey toward something greater. Haechan reached into his bag, pulling out a small, well-worn notebook. Inside, he had written down his goals and aspirations, a reminder of the path he had chosen. He flipped through the pages, each line a declaration of his dreams and the steps he needed to take to achieve them. As he read through his words, a sense of fulfillment washed over him. The sacrifices he made were not burdens, but investments in his future. Every challenge he faced, every moment of doubt, was a part of the journey—a journey that had shaped him into the person he was today.
With a deep breath, Haechan closed the notebook.

Mark.
Hundreds of miles away, Mark woke to the muted beeping of machines, the soft hum a constant backdrop to his life in the hospital. Sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting striped patterns on the sterile white walls of his room. He lay still for a moment, listening to the familiar sounds of the ward coming to life—the distant chatter of nurses, the rolling wheels of carts along the linoleum floors, the quiet click of doors opening and closing. His world had narrowed to this room, this bed. It was a space that had become both a refuge and a prison, confining him within its pale walls as the outside world continued to spin without him. Each day was a monotonous cycle of treatments and check-ups, a routine that blurred together into a hazy sameness.
Mark sighed, forcing himself to sit up as a nurse entered the room, her presence bright and efficient. “Good morning, Mark,” she greeted with a smile, adjusting the IV drip beside his bed. “How are you feeling today?”
He shrugged, offering a noncommittal grunt in response. It was the same as every other day, a mix of physical discomfort and emotional fatigue that left him feeling adrift and disconnected. The nurse checked his vitals with practiced efficiency, jotting down numbers on a clipboard before giving him a sympathetic look. “Doctor Na will be in shortly to see you. If you need anything, just let us know, okay?”
Mark nodded, watching her leave before settling back against the pillows. The room was quiet once more, the silence stretching out like a yawning chasm. He stared at the ceiling, tracing the patterns of the tiles with his eyes, trying to find some distraction from the thoughts that swirled relentlessly in his mind. It hadn’t always been this way. There was a time when Mark’s life was filled with dreams and aspirations, a future that seemed bright and full of possibilities. But that was before the diagnosis, before the cancer had invaded his body and his world, dragging him into a reality defined by limitations and uncertainty. Now, each day was a struggle to find meaning in the midst of his confinement, a battle against the creeping tide of despair that threatened to pull him under. He knew the statistics, the prognosis that loomed like a shadow over his thoughts, but it was the loss of control, the loss of normalcy, that weighed most heavily on his heart.
A soft knock at the door interrupted his reverie, and Doctor Na entered, her expression calm and composed. She was a reassuring presence, her demeanor a blend of professionalism and genuine care that made the weight of his situation feel a little less suffocating.
“Good morning, Mark,” she said, pulling up a chair beside his bed. “How are you holding up today?”
Mark managed a faint smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Same as always, I guess.”
Doctor Na nodded, her gaze steady and compassionate. “I know it’s tough, but you’re doing really well. Your latest test results show some improvement, which is encouraging.”
He nodded, trying to muster some semblance of hope from her words. Improvement was good, a step in the right direction, but it was hard to hold onto optimism when the path ahead was shrouded in uncertainty.
They discussed his treatment plan, the adjustments to his medication, and the upcoming tests he would need to undergo. It was a conversation that had become routine, a script they both knew by heart.
“Is there anything you’d like to talk about, any concerns you have?” Doctor Na asked, her tone inviting.
Mark hesitated, struggling to articulate the tangled mess of emotions that churned inside him. “I just… I miss the way things used to be,” he admitted quietly. “I miss being able to do things, to go places. I feel like I’m stuck in this endless loop, and I don’t know how to break out of it.”
Doctor Na nodded, understanding evident in her expression. “It’s completely normal to feel that way, Mark. It’s important to acknowledge those feelings and to find ways to cope with them. Have you considered talking to the hospital counselor? Sometimes it helps to have someone to talk to, someone who can offer a different perspective.”
He nodded again, though he wasn’t sure how much talking could change the reality of his situation. Still, he appreciated her concern, the way she listened without judgment, offering support without pity. After she left, Mark sat in silence for a while, contemplating her words. He knew he needed to find a way to navigate this new reality, to find some semblance of peace amidst the chaos. But it was hard to see the path forward when the future felt so uncertain, so out of reach.
The rest of the day unfolded with a predictable rhythm—meals delivered on trays, nurses coming and going, each check-up a reminder of his frailty. Mark found himself counting the minutes, the hours, waiting for something to break the monotony. He picked up the worn paperback on his bedside table, hoping to lose himself in its pages, but his mind kept drifting, unable to focus on the words. The story was a familiar one, a favorite that had brought him comfort in the past, but now it felt like a hollow echo of a life he couldn’t quite touch.
Frustrated, he set the book aside and reached for his sketchpad, hoping the act of drawing might offer some relief from the weight of his thoughts. Art had always been a refuge for Mark, a way to express what he couldn’t put into words. But as he stared at the blank page, his hand faltered, unable to summon the creativity that once flowed so easily.
The depression was a heavy cloak, smothering the spark of inspiration, the will to create. It was as if the colors of the world had dimmed, leaving only shades of gray that matched the pallor of his skin. With a sigh, Mark closed the sketchpad and lay back against the pillows, eyes closed against the brightness of the room. The fatigue was bone-deep, a constant companion that left him feeling hollow and spent.
He listened to the sounds of the hospital—the distant conversations, the beeping of machines, the rhythmic footsteps of nurses making their rounds. It was a symphony of routine, each note a reminder of the life he once had, the life he longed to return to. In the quiet moments between treatments, Mark’s mind drifted to memories of simpler times—days spent exploring the city, evenings filled with laughter and friends, nights spent dreaming of a future filled with possibilities. Those memories were bittersweet now, tinged with the longing for a freedom that felt impossibly distant.
The night had settled quietly over both worlds, a velvet blanket strewn with stars stretching across the sky. In Universe A, the city was alive with the distant hum of cars and the glow of streetlights, while in Universe B, the hospital ward was hushed and still, the world outside a serene expanse of calm.
In his small apartment in Universe A, Haechan lay sprawled on his bed, the sheets tangled around him. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of a bedside lamp, casting shadows that danced along the walls. He stared up at the ceiling, his mind a whirl of thoughts and emotions. The day had been long, filled with classes and laughter, study sessions and moments of quiet reflection. But as the night deepened, Haechan found himself wrestling with a familiar restlessness—a longing for something just beyond his grasp. He thought of Mark, of the future they were building together, the dreams they shared and the uncertainties that lay ahead. Despite the love and support they gave each other, Haechan couldn’t shake the nagging doubt that whispered in the back of his mind. Was he truly on the right path? Was he doing enough to keep up with Mark’s brilliance, his potential?
Haechan sighed, rolling onto his side and pulling the pillow closer. The city’s lights twinkled outside his window, a constant reminder of the world’s endless possibilities. Somewhere out there, his future awaited—full of challenges and triumphs, risks and rewards. He just had to find the courage to face it.
Meanwhile, in Universe B, Mark lay in his hospital bed, the sterile room bathed in the gentle light of a single lamp. The machines around him hummed softly, their rhythmic beeping a constant companion in the quiet solitude. The day had been a blur of treatments and conversations, each one a reminder of the precarious balance between hope and despair. Despite Dr. Na’s encouraging words, Mark felt the weight of his reality pressing down on him, a heavy cloak that smothered his dreams.
Yet, as he gazed out the window at the stars, he felt a flicker of something deep within—a spark of longing, a whisper of anticipation. It was as if the universe itself was calling to him, urging him to hold onto hope, to believe in a future that was still unwritten. Mark closed his eyes, letting the calm of the night wash over him. In his mind’s eye, he saw a different life—a life filled with color and light, with moments of joy and laughter, free from the constraints of illness. It was a vision that filled him with a bittersweet ache, a reminder of the possibilities that lay just beyond his reach.
Across the divide between their worlds, Haechan and Mark shared a moment of quiet reflection, each caught in the currents of their own thoughts, yet somehow connected by a thread of shared longing. It was a connection that transcended the boundaries of time and space, a bond that hinted at something more.
As Haechan drifted into sleep, he felt a strange sense of anticipation, a feeling that change was coming—a shift in the winds that would carry him toward new horizons. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but the thought filled him with a quiet excitement, a promise of adventures yet to come. In Universe B, Mark felt a similar stirring in his soul, a sense that his journey was far from over. Despite the challenges he faced, there was a part of him that refused to surrender, a part that clung fiercely to the hope of a brighter tomorrow.
Both young men lay in their respective beds, worlds apart yet inexplicably linked by a shared sense of purpose, a shared dream of something greater. It was a connection that would soon become undeniable, a catalyst for change that neither could have anticipated. As the night deepened and the stars wheeled overhead, Haechan and Mark embraced the uncertainty of their paths, each resolved to face whatever challenges lay ahead with courage and determination.
In the quiet darkness, they both found solace in the knowledge that they were not alone, that their stories were part of a larger tapestry woven by fate and destiny. And though they didn’t yet know it, their lives were about to intersect in ways that would forever alter the course of their journeys. As sleep finally claimed them, Haechan and Mark surrendered to the dreams that awaited—dreams of possibilities and potential, of new beginnings and endless horizons. And in that shared dreamscape, they both saw a future filled with hope and promise, a future that was theirs to create.
In the quiet moments before the world stirred to life, they both felt the pull of that invisible thread, the bond that connected them across time and space.
