peter: peter's main design philosphy is being as generic as possible. he's the jon arbuckle of phones, being a model 500, and is overall just a very visually plain guy. as such, he's just a solid black shorthair- with rusting to get that red across, and blue eyes to match his shirt. "oakpelt" is also intended to be a generic as fuck name. his design is overall squareish, like the view we get of his phone from his sprites.

joe: joe just kinda feels like a scraggly street cat to me. all black, to match his head and suit, with ears that point inwards and significant cheek fluff to mimic the shapes of his phone. "sootsky" refers both to his coloration, like soot, and to the smoggy area that we meet him ingame.

omair: since dialclan takes place in the city (the clan lives in alleyways behind gabby's shop), i can get away with a lot of kittypets. omair's blue in the same way that jadefeather/randy is blue and mulberrycrown/mingus and crownstar/callum are purple- styilization, he's not literally blue, in real life would be grey. he's got round, sloping shapes like his head, and a heart-shaped marking on his chest to mirror that one adorable heart-hand sprite.

fabron: scraggly as FUUUUUCK. a square head to mimic his monitor, with a square marking on his face to look like a screen. he has very tall ears, one of which is mostly ripped off, to be evocative of his antenna. yellow eyes like the markings on the right side of his head, and his tabby markings make a little mustache. so he looks french. for his name- "-sight" is derived from the whole deal where he's got an eye on his screen from the little billy thing, and "stream" is mostly in reference to his head being a monitor and him being in a room full of monitors, stream like video.

bunny: pretty straightforward. big tomcat jowls to resemble the bell mechanism on his head, prominent claws to match his manicure. big chest fluff to resemble his popped collar, and tall, round ears like a bunny. "bunnyfall" is probably an obvious name- bunny because bunny, and fall because madame mediocre falled on him.

abel: tuxedo is pretty obvious for him with the coloring. he's purple-tinted like most of the mingling. tried to make him visibly aged with wrinkles and greying- sometimes i forget that hcing him as like, 60-70 isn't much of a Thing outside our friend circle, but yanno. tall and lanky like his candlestick phone. "applegaze" is a two-part pun- "apple" sounds like "abel", but mostly it's just referring to his apple watch (see also, the marking on his front leg), which is a particularly important part of his design to me because of an inside joke.

god: main design philosophy: you gotta kinda squint at him and go "wait, is that a cat or a dog?" he's just hanging out. i don't think he has a proper name, much like our pal hound/hobo/god/etc ingame.

okay, i am aware this isn't my greatest work but i actually kind of like it, or i enjoyed writing it at least because i'm a sucker for fairytales being applied to non-fairytale stories/settings... also i spent about the same amount of time writing this as i did attempting to find a gif of leo in that damn suit and then i ended up having to make my own because i couldn't find one of just leo...

Leonardo likes people watching – which is not stalking no matter what Raphael says. He likes imagining their lives and catching snippets of arguments and jests and idle conversation, and he especially likes watching people in his colour, even if some of the gowns and suits he sees are abominations fit for incineration rather than an evening out.

Although, he concedes, there are a lot of pretty outfits tonight, including a dashing cornflower blue, pinstriped three piece suit – complete with a fedora and all – that Leo quietly longs to have in his closet. His brothers would probably laugh and Donny would accuse him of wanting to look like a noir detective (and so what if he did?), but Leo was used to tuning out their teasing.

He settles against a wall and continues to watch. There’s a lot of blue in the crowd; shades of navy and midnight, indigo and periwinkle threatening to bleed into purple and catching and sparkling in the light.

For every fashion win, however, there are another two fashion failures, and Leo can't hide his wince as a woman saunters past with undeserved, and therefore impressive, confidence clad in a ghastly shade of turquoise and adorned with fur trimmings.

He loves blue more than anyone else, he really does, but even that shade has skipped over the boundaries of ostentatious into obnoxious, and Leo has to blink to try and erase the monstrosity from his mind.

Pulling his eyes away from another blasphemous shade of cyan passing through the doorway, he scans the sea of people casually and smiles amusedly as he quickly spots Raph. He’s got his arm around Donny who looks like he’d rather be anywhere else, clumsily hunched and torn between politeness and awkwardness as his brother flirts brazenly.

He can’t find Mikey and he lets his eyes roam the room once more to make sure he hasn’t missed him, although missing Mikey is pretty impossible, not least because he's in a bright orange tuxedo. It should worry him more, although he’s not sure whether to be worried for Mikey or for whomever Mikey is with, but all thoughts of his little brother are expelled from his mind when he catches a breathtaking shade of blue across the floor.

The dress is long and shimmering, fabric pooling on the floor, and Leo follows the material upwards, transfixed as it cascades and ripples over skin like water. It’s so blue.

His breath hitches as he traces bare neck and lands on the most beautiful face he’s even seen. You’re looking right at him. He feels faint, hyperaware of his own heartbeat thrumming in his ears, the racing flap of a hummingbird’s wings matching the flutter of butterflies within his stomach.

Love at first sight is such a ridiculous, illogical notion. It's fanciful and childish. It’s unrealistic and goes against everything Leo has been taught and everything he expects from himself. But your dress matches his suit, matches his mask, he's a mutant turtle, and he’s already striding towards you and you’re meeting him halfway, and before he can even stop and think about what he’s doing he’s asking you for a dance.

His breath hitches again as your palm glides against his and he rests his other along the curve of your hip, feeling the heat of your body through your dress.

Years of training have made his feet steady and his frame strong, but Leo still feels a little out of place as he does his best to lead you around the floor. You smile at him, soft and amused, easily reading the tension in his shoulders with the palms of your hands. “You need to relax,” you murmur teasingly. “Breathing would be a good start.

His shoulders gradually slump under the gentle caress of your hands as you dance in companionable quiet, and your answering beam causes his breath to catch in his throat. This doesn’t feel real, it feels like a dream and a fairytale all at once – perhaps also combined with a nightmare because his brothers are watching and even Mikey has reappeared to gawk – as Leo twirls you gracefully.

He might feel out of place, but the two of you are perfectly in sync. You’re calm and flowing in his arms, your gown whirling and billowing behind you like a silent wave rolling against the shore with every step and spin, and you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.

In all honesty, Leo has no idea what to say now that you’re in his arms. He should probably speak before it gets awkward, before you leave and he never gets to see you again, but his heart feels like its trapped in his throat and even the thought of speaking makes him nauseous as those butterflies continue to assault the lining of his stomach.

He thanks every deity he can name that you break the silence first. “Do I get to know the name of my dance partner?”

Your smile is wide and bright as you wait for his reply, and it takes Leo a moment to register your question. When he does, his answer is a stammering mess that makes it impossible for you to hide the gooey endearment on your face, eyes all-but moulding into little hearts as you slowly bridge the sliver of space between your bodies.

You can feel solid muscle flexing beneath your palms as his breath stutters, and you can’t hide the satisfied grin blooming across your lips, cheeks aching when his hand flattens against your spine and he extinguishes the final inch between you like smothering a flame – except the instance your chest is flush against his, that flame is burning brighter, roaring and scorching, and your eyes flutter as his lips brush yours in a whisper of a touch.

“And your name?” Leo asks, breath fanning your face and unable to tear his gaze away from you. “Don’t tell me it’s Cinderella.”

You laugh, eyes crinkling and nose scrunching, and Leo’s heart clenches in adoration. “That would be silly,” you tell him playfully, glancing down at your dress and pretending not to notice the way his eyes drop to your cleavage, pausing for a moment too long, as they follow yours. “I would never be so on the nose.”

“Of course, my mistake. I am terribly sorry for my misjudgement.”

“Although,” you admit, accepting his tongue-in-cheek apology with a mischievous dip of your chin and letting your lips roll to conceal a smile as you glance at him coyly from under your lashes, “I do actually have to leave before midnight.”

Leo blinks. “Don’t tell me this dress will turn to rags and your carriage is a pumpkin.”

You shrug nonchalantly and it’s Leo’s turn to laugh. “A girl has to have her secrets.”

“Are you hiding glass slippers beneath that skirt?”

“Oh, I bet you’d love to know what’s under my skirt, Leonardo.”

His face is hot, and Leo has never been more glad to be a turtle, green skin disguising a heated blush. “You’re a terrible tease.”

The music has stopped, and Leo reluctantly lets you step back, already missing the warmth of you as he takes in his surroundings as though seeing them for the first time, as if the two of you have been underwater, alone in the world, this entire time and have only just broken through to the surface.

It’s no longer just his brothers gawking; you’ve attracted quite the crowd with your dancing, and he realises he’s not sure how long the pair of you have been spinning away – it could have been a minute, or it could have been twenty.

As he glances at his brothers and does his best to ignore the whispering swarm, he’s not sure his face could get any hotter. Mikey is grinning widely, cheering and hooting and receiving plenty of dirty looks, not at all phased by the chastising glare Leo shoots him, while Donny and Raph look equal parts awed and confused, impressed and disgruntled.

Leo rolls his eyes and turns to face you again only to be met with the lingering scent of your perfume and empty space. Panic shoots through him like lightning and he’s about to rush for the nearest exit when he almost stomps on something.

His laugh is barking and loud and his brothers look even more confused as he picks up a heel. It’s not a glass slipper, but it is blue and there’s a slip of paper with a phone number and your name that Leo slips into his pocket.

“All done Miss.”

The group of ladies applying your makeup stepped back from in front of the mirror to allow you to see. Met with someone completely different staring back, was it really you?

Yesterday had hit her like a whirlwind. In the morning, she was a broken up mess, and by night she was in Reo’s mansion, planning out one of their biggest days together. He let her know that everything would be finished by the daytime. Venue, catering, her dress and his tuxedo; he had people working on things left, right and centre.

“I won’t let you cry again.” His thumb and forefinger gently held her chin, bringing their faces together.

He singlehandedly changed her. He understood her in a way no one she’d ever met before had. She’d become able to see things differently, to point out the light in the room rather than the shadows it casted.

The doorknob to the room twisted, followed by a pair of polished black leather shoes stepping softly onto the white carpet spread over the entry walkway. Two ladies stood, reaching their arms over and draping a tulle veil over her head, intricate lace woven into the edges.

Her eyes shifted upwards. His hair was styled and bore a wavy look which complimented his neat button up top, pulling everything together with a regal purple suit jacket.

This whole day was completely out of her expectations.

After the photography session he had put together at one of her favourite spots, the two of them headed to the venue, driven in a spacious white limousine. Throughout the ride, he showered her with compliments, asking if she was comfortable, or if she needed anything – making sure her beautiful smile didn’t fade. Though, there was an unplanned factor that he never considered; something that completely slipped his mind.

As the limousine came to a halt, Reo left the car and made his way over to her side, opening the door and taking her hand in his as she stepped out. Sure, the two of them had discussed what venue they had been thinking of, but this was completely overwhelming to say the least. She stood before a large area of greenery, tall tropical-like trees leaning over each other and forming a tunned like structure for as far as her eyes could see. Glancing left and right, gorgeous flowers of various colours peered over the walkway edges, swaying in the gentle wind. Interlocking his arm with hers, the two of them walked the path towards the glass building where everyone else was waiting.

Beginning the reception, they conversed with family and friends, catching up and whatnot. Stories about how they met, compliments to the dress and tuxedo, comments about the food and drinks; everybody was mingling.

She walked to Reo’s side, joining in on a conversation with a friend of his. He introduced her to him, mentioning how the two of them met in high school, having gone through a lot together. He didn’t seem to suit the confident demeanour that Reo had crafted, but nevertheless they seemed close.

In the midst of their conversation, his friend pointed at the entrance behind the two of them.

“Yikes, Reo. Why is she here?”

Turning around, they were both met with a sight for sore eyes. A lady arguing with the receptionist, telling her to ‘rub her eyes and check the list, because her name has to be on it’.

Whoever this woman was, she took it to the extra mile, showing up in a white ballgown.

She tugged at Reo’s arm, ushering for him to lean over.

“Who is that?” She whispered into his ear.

He sighed, holding the bridge of his nose. “An idiot.”

They walked towards the source of the ruckus as the mysterious woman yanked the clipboard out of the receptionist’s hands.

Whoever this woman was, she for some reason shot her a glare as though to say ‘who do you think you are?’

Reo stood there, arms folded as he glared at her. “What on earth are you doing here?” He spoke bluntly. Like a child, the woman’s attention immediately shifted from the clipboard to Reo as she tossed it to the ground.

She threw herself onto him, clenching his suit jacket in her hands. “Reo! You’re finally back for me!”

Poking his cheek with her finger, she continued. “You missed me, didn’t you~?”

He never intended to be violent, trying his best to remain calm. But something in him snapped and he shoved her back, dusting off his suit with repulsion.

“Don’t you dare come near me!” He spat. “I don’t want to see your face again.”

Just as she was about to make another move, Reo shot a glance to the two men on standby, signalling for them to have her removed.

“Reo! I made myself pretty! You miss me, right?!” She wailed, her voice piercing the ears of everybody nearby. She continued to thrash around and shriek until the lady was no longer within their sight.

Reo sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. Turning to his side, he couldn’t meet her gaze.

“I.. didn’t know she’d go this far.”

“An ex?”

“I don’t even want to call her that.” He said, taking her to the side where there were less eyes.

“We used to hang out.. a lot, in high school. But long story short, my things started to go missing when she began visiting. I found out that on top of the gifts I used to shower her with, she was pawning off my stuff for more cash. I hated her after that.” In his eyes was a mixture of emotions; pain, worry, disdain. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, silence befalling the two.

“Hey.. look at me..” She said, bringing her hand to his face and brushing a stray strand of hair away from his gaze. “That’s in the past. She’s pretty crazy, but she’s gone now, right?” He was there for her when she had nobody else. He must’ve gone through some harsh times because of that lady.

“I wasn’t there when it happened. But I’m here now.”

He sniffed uncharacteristically, avoiding her eyes once more. “I.. I didn’t want to make you sad…”

“Do I look sad?” Her eyes softened, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly. His arms tightened around her back as his head slumped into the crook of her neck.

“Your clothes are going to get wrinkled.” She giggled, her hand finding its way to the back of his head, entangling her finger with his hair.

“So be it.” His muffled voice replied.

Diana: Her Fashion Story

This was a special exhibition by Kensington Palace. I did not know it was here until I arrived for my visit of the state rooms.

Trace the evolution of Diana, Princess of Wales' style, from the demure, romantic dresses and other outfits of her first public appearances, to the glamour, elegance and confidence of her later life. In this elegant exhibition at Diana's former London home, her relationship with her favourite designers is explored through a display of some of their original fashion sketches, created for her during the design process.

I loved these. The William one could use a bit of work, but the Diana and Kate ones are so good! I am happy to report there were no pillows of Harry or Meghan at the time of my visit.

Left: Princess Diana's Pink Satin Evening Gown With White Raw Silk Collar And Cuffs, by Catherine Walker in 1987. (This dress was in a bunch of promo photos advertising the exhibition.) Diana wore it twice - once for this official portrait and again on a visit to the Berlin Opera House in November 1987.

Right: Catherine Walker Day Dress, worn in New Zealand.

The princess chose this pink silk dress for an official visit to Japan in spring 1986. The collar was shown to ocmplement the flowering cherry blossoms. She wore the dress again later that year to a charity ice show at Wembley arena. While there, she watched Olympic ice skating champions Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean perform.

Behind is a Catherine Walker pink sequined ivory crepe gown with asymmetric neckline, worn at a banquet given by President Collor at the Itamaraty Palace while on a State visit to Brazil, 23 April 1991.

These two dresses (the Travolta dress and the Brazil dress) were both sold at an auction in 2013. See details, and other dresses from the auction, here.

Diana wore the (can't read this bit) design for her visit to Japan. (I can't read the rest.)

Later that year, she wore it again during a state visit to Germany. In 1997, designer Pat Kerr bought the gown, according to Diana: A Life in Dresses. This is the wallpaper that lined the hallway just outside of the Diana exhibition near the restrooms.

I LOVED this. The watercolors, the tribute to her fashion and style, the little references to flowers, buildings, and jewelry associated with her. I had this had my phone wallpaper for a little bit.
