A maneki bakeneko! He exists to give kobans [ lucky coins on his wrists ] to those in need! He's done this job since he was 10, which is surprising given that he's only 5 years younger than Yae Miko. His eye is from an attempting kidnapping, which he is not fond about.

He's a pyro vision holder. His fire is actually blue [ due to being ghostly, ] which affected his vision quite a bit. He's fond of bells and uses them in his attacks. There's a rumor that, every time you hear bells in the distance, he is out and about, waiting for someone to find him.

Xue [ they / he ]

Half cryo abyss mage, half human. Xue does not remember how they came to be, only the abyss and leaving. They say that he found the mask and went through a terrifying transformation that resulted who he is today, but even then, they don't know if it is true or not.

They can wear the abyss mage mask in order to gain cryo abyss mage power, but if they wear it for too long [ 1 hour and 30 minutes is the maximum they can wear it, ] then they are unable to take off the mask by themselves and will slowly lose control over himself. He's a pretty nice person outside of that.

Esmee [ She / her ]

A small melusine who happened to travel too far from city and her village, which resulted in her being attacked. She was found by Dot [ friend's genshin oc ] and taken to Neuvillette, who dropped everything to help her. She's been by his side since, working under his orders directly.

She loves collecting little items for people she thinks are cool, and she loves to sing. Her legs were injured after the incident, so Neuvillette had to carry her around everywhere. She's recovering now at least, being able to walk around, as well as being able to run in short amounts.

Uncle!Venigni / Child!Reader: Found Family.

Note: had this one cooking up in the drafts, its a bit short and rushed but I had to get it down because uncle Venigni ftw

A child who got caught up in the tragic tale of Krat, this small defenseless child just making their way through the dangers that awaited them within the streets. Hiding, running, getting teary eyed as all they wanted to do is be back home with their family who unfortunately passed away from the disease. They were alone, they are alone... at least, it seemed like it to them until one day they manage to hide away inside a factory.

This terrified the poor child, it was already bad enough out there but to be inside a place the scary puppets are actually made from? The child just wanted to be back home. However, being small has its advantages and they manage to sneak in as they heard a man speak, they were told to go to a trusted adult, right? And this one sounded human!

Once reaching inside the main part of the factory, the child sees a very...over the top looking man. He did have a nice mustache though. They carefully approached man, the man just noticing them and blinked before adjusting his glasses, "my word...a child?! What could a child be doing here?!" The man asked himself as he kneeled down to the child. "Hello, young one! What's your name?" The child slowly approaches, still cautious "m-my names (Y/N)...", the man gave a nod, "well (Y/N), I am Venigni! The brilliant mind behind all...uhm...this" he said, his voice faltering as this clearly wasn't his best work. "Ah...its a bit of a complicated time, young one..." The child blinked at him, "oh...why are you here?" They asked, tilting their head and before the older gent could answer, foots steps were approaching causing the child to gasp and grab onto the red sleeve of the mans coat. Venigni stood up, now most of the time he would be petrified- which he was- but as he now had a child next to him it wasn't the time to be a coward until he saw who it was. Geppettos puppet. "Oh friend! Its so good to see you! H-how did it go?" the young man nodded, "a-and Pulcinella?" The other man shook his head in silence. "Ah...I see. Well, I suppose now that the horror is over, so to speak...I shall head towards Hotel Krat!"

The black haired man in front of you noticed you hiding behind Venignis leg and tilted his head, Venigni followed his gaze "ah! Right...this little one just arrived-" he knelt down to you, "this is nice person, young one. He's the one who has been helping me out with my little problem! How about we go with him to a very nice and safe place?" The child stared at him and then to the younger man before nodded. Upon seeing your cuts and bruises Venigni took pity and decided to carry you, you held onto his shoulders he reminded you of your father a bit which brought some comfort to you as you made your way out of the burnt building.

It wasn't long before you settled yourself in the hotel and meet everyone, you would find yourself following the person named P, the one who saved you and Venigni around the gardens in silence. He creeped you out at first especially when you found out he was a puppet with an unnerving stare... but soon grew to enjoying his company and would sit and read fairytail books, you never had siblings but you like to think of P as one. He was kind to you and he read you stories so what was there not to love?

But you'd mostly stayed with Venigni, you liked when he dabbled on about things you didn't understand cause whenever he did you'd fall asleep in his arms. Despite not having family, Venigni took a liking to you too as he held you in his arms and showed you the model behind him as he talked. He never had children but whenever you came up to him and called him 'Uncle' he felt a sense of joy and pride. Yes, the great Venigni had taken you in as his kin.

He manage to bring his butler back to life, Pulcinella and you had learned quite a few things from the puppet. Whenever Venigni was gone (doing god knows whatever) you'd have Pulcinella to talk to.

You missed your old family but having your Uncle here now with you had brought you comfort, you may not be blood related but you now have someone to call family.

I kinda liked today's ep, it was not as bad as I thought it would be, judging by Puzzles in the thumbnail lmao

Mr. Puzzles made a Classic SMG3-ass plan, it was like a big mix of Shell Shocked, smg4 vs smg3 and SMG3's Gauntlet of Gloom; I dont know if I really like he becoming so much of a non-threat and I would really prefer Marty in roles like this, since his powers come more from...capitalism I guess

Since this ep was co-written by Paul/Medi, there was a bunch of cameos from characters with basically no screentime, something always nice to see, and he always put characters people like to see together hanging out and sitting together (like Saiko and Tari, Bob and Boopkins and 3 and 4)

And X, who also co-wrote the ep, is not beating the "I can't write SMG4 episodes if theres no Bob in it" allegations lmao (not complaining, I love Bob)

As for Pedro, I dont have much to say about him, if he appear again as one of Mario's weird friends/pets (like Slenderman, Siren Head, Greg, Simon the Skibidi Toiled and Marty) I really wouldnt mind lmao

anyway, one point i do wanna add, he KNOWS what he's doing. yes, he's...hm, delusional, but he knows what he wanted from the get-go, regardless of how he ended up that way. sephiroth was even considered a genius in almost, if not all, aspects, especially on the battlefield. he knows.

sephiroth felt ZERO shame for what he did and he'll do it all over again too, if he could.

while it could be argued that the fragments of him, the brothers (kadaj, loz, and yazoo), showed some capabilities of non-sephiroth emotions, none of them are truly sephiroth. a little more than a potential vessel for him at best, whose personality can still be morphed back to the 'original'. when kadaj transformed into sephiroth, sephiroth was downright cruel and mocking toward cloud like in the original game(s) and even had a laugh when he stabbed cloud and told him that he'd forever haunt his dreams ("never be a memory"). i truly do not believe that the fragments are at all a true facet of sephiroth.

if anything, they'd probably be more like children that happened to have his dna (at least in appearances) and some parts of sephiroth's memories that the lifestream just spat out out of pure spite. i exaggerated, but that's the general gist of how the brothers came to be, from what i remembered.

anyway, i just wanna point that one bullet point. i...had seen that argument used in the past to defend sephiroth and found it nonsensical. that said, my memories of aoc is a bit cloudy so i'm sure i got some details a bit off.

One of the Sephiroth's cruelest moments was when he created a detailed fabricated story about Cloud being a Jenova meat puppet. He used both Cloud AND Tifa's memories to deceive them. In Rebirth, it seems like he's going to do it again, but this time he's starting much earlier. I don't see how any of that imply any goodness left in Sephiroth.

You know it's pretty bad when the devs themselves have to reaffirm that he's an evil guy.

favorite thing about them: i love her relationship with her dad and while its very heartwarming and sweet how they looked out for each other and he encouraged her to follow her passions instead of doing what society expects her to be (a housewife basically). also how unhinged she can be. mech exploded things with her robots MULTIPLE times and i love her for it, even though she needs therapy with her terrible coping mechanism of trying to turn her robot into her dead dad replacement

least favorite thing about them: not that i don't like skins that are girly/cutesy but when it comes to tracy i don't think the amount that she has really fits her character (like her just around the corner skin as an ex.)? i wish she had more skins like puppeteer

favorite line: "It's difficult to get what people are thinking. In contrast, it's must easier to figure out a robot's engine." Tracy is a very relatable character

bROTP: the mentor/mentee or father/daughter relationship between puppeteer tracy and whiplash kevin, they're both great and the duo is one of the highlights of coa 3 for me. especially because tracy really misses having that kind of figure in her life in the main timeline :'')

also a VERY recent development but i love her and orpheus together. their characters have a lot of interesting similarities that not a lot of people talk about between them!

OTP: like i said in luca's, i really love her and him as a queerplatonic relationship. though i do rlly like emmatracy romantically too! luca obnoxiously eats popcorn whenever tracy has emma over for movie dates.

nOTP: don't really have one for her aside from the obvious "dont ship her with kids she's a whole ass adult". though considering how much i love family dynamic tracy and kevin it feels personally weird for me to think of them together romantically

Ribbon headcanons?

This got long lol so it's all under the cut

- Fairies remain youthful and small their entire lives but can grow / shapeshift if they need to for whatever reason. it requires a lot of magic tho! The fairy queen did this for political reasons, otherwise she would stay small like ribbon and the other fairies

- Ripple Star has good relations with the planet from the Puppet Princess novel since they’re in the same Star system and just have similar cultures overall. Ripple Star imports a lot of their cakes and desserts. Speaking of the novels, Pirika is from Ripple Star

- I like my fae based off insects so yeehaw for Ripple Star bugs. They just get the cute parts like the wings and being itty bitty. Also they eat mostly sugar

- They’re like storybook fairies in the sense that they eat cream and bread and honeycakes and stuff. They basically live off dessert. Ribbon specifically has a favorite, it’s tea cakes made from rose nectar bc it’s sugary and pink :)

- Ribbon loves to ride on Adeleine’s shoulder / head and generally acts like the Angel/devil on her shoulder depending on her mood. She helps Ado (who is both mellow and kinda shy) get out there more and encourages her a lot! Also she encourages her to take up sharpshooting and crime

- Ribbon loves playing harmless pranks (fae things ftw) and gets along shockingly well with Marx

- Her and Susie are good friends even if Susie intimidates Ado a little (a lot actually)

- Ripple Star fae take their “deals” seriously, as all fae do, but bc ribbon is just a kid it’s not to the same degree as the Ripple Star Court. Instead, it’s just really hardcore pinky promises (break them and you’ll never get to share snacks)

Anyways, I made a slight alteration to my theory that the Puppet Crème will be used to turn Ryan into a puppet. I now think it will allow him to be possessed based on his comments at the end of the last episode. I also looked over the fact that the eyes of The Professor on the bottle are icy blue, like he’s possessed. (1/7)

Getting to what I really wanted to share, I have come up with 5 possible ways that season 5 will end. In order of least to most dramatic, they are:

1. The real Professor will arrive on set and defeat the Hologram Professor. He doesn't care about his feud with Ryan more than his feud with the Genie.

2. The real Professor will help Ryan defeat the Hologram Professor. They will put aside their differences now that they have a common enemy.

this one’s my personal fav, the power they’d have together *chefs kiss* i wanna see it

3. The real Professor will arrive on set and defeat the Hologram Professor so he can fight Ryan himself. He is mad about both feuds. In my eyes, this is the funniest outcome.

4. The real Professor will help the Hologram Professor fight Ryan. He is now their common enemy. However, like last season, a big switch will be pulled and The Professor will learn that Ryan was trying to get him back.

i like this one too lol real and holo fighting him then it’s revealed what ryan tried to do in his absence and they hug and everyone’s emotional and they join forces to defeat holo. the happy ending we all deserve

5. The Dino-Professor will arrive at set too late and the Hologram Professor will have already succeeded in possessing Ryan. The Dino-Professor now has a choice: help Ryan or let the Hologram Professor win. Personally, I want to see this ending just because I want to see how it would pan out onscreen, and we’d see if The Professor would rather let the Genie and Devil win than helping Ryan after season 4.

These all largely depend on how The Professor feels towards Ryan, but because we don’t really have that info yet, I’m holding off on eliminating any of these and fully forming a theory. I’m also probably going to send my theories on how the real Professor will get back to the present, but again, there isn’t very much to go off of. I just think there is no way that he won’t be back during the finale.

P.S. I was really self-indulgent with the cheesy shoujo aspects I put into this please forgive me. Also, as I said before in a previous post, I made Adrien just the teensy-tiniest bit of a yan. What can I say? I’m sort of weak for that type.😩👌

-Adrien is a prince and Marinette is a baker’s daughter.

-She tags along with her dad on one of his deliveries to the castle and wanders into the gardens, where she meets Adrien.

-The two hit it off right away and become the best of friends.

-Marinette visits the castle as often as she can to see Adrien, and because she loves seeing all the different types of clothing the upper classes wore (she wants to be a modiste (dressmaker) when she grows up, though she is also interested in mens clothing).

-The two fall in love throughout the years, but don’t know about the other’s feelings. Marinette knows she’s in love with Adrien, while he doesn’t realize he’s in love with her. All he knows is that she’s an “irreplaceable existence” to him.

-Marinette starts visiting the castle less and less, due to their respective responsibilities only growing. He is always super happy to see her though.

-Adrien is engaged to marry a woman from the higher class, Kagami Tsurugi, who he chose himself. Marinette visits even less. Adrien misses her a lot.

-Because Adrien has no freedom as a prince, he dons a mask and becomes “Chat Noir” at night. Plagg, his fighting teacher, helps him with this, but only if he agrees to keep his identity a secret because of rumors, scandal, dirtying the crown’s name, etc.

-Somehow he’s become a renowned vigilante because wow are the streets filled with crime and he’s not just going to sit back and watch while criminals go wild.

-While he’s on the run from a group of men he “handled”, he unknowingly happens upon Marinette’s balcony. Marinette sees him and is about to scream but sees that he’s injured. She helps him hide from the men and patches him up.

-MARICHAT BALCONY HANGOUTS FTW

-Adrien takes full advantage of his identity as “Chat Noir” in order to spend more time with her, and unsurprisingly, falls even more in love with her.

-He flirts with her constantly, but much like in canon, she never takes him seriously.

-Adrien Agreste is someone who is used to not getting what he wants. His mother died when he was young, leaving only his cold father as his source of parental affection. All he does is listen to his father’s commands, and all the activities he does are solely to live up to people’s expectations for a princes’ talents and accomplishments.

-He does not have many social interactions other than formal gatherings to discuss politics and superficial fluff with aristocrats. Aside from Marinette, his closest friends and companions are Nino, a castle servant, and Plagg, his fighting teacher. 

-Adrien has long accepted his fate as a puppet to the crown and to his father. He only has one thing, one person he will never give up; Marinette Dupain-Cheng. As long as she was by his side, he was content.

-Adrien knew he would be arranged to marry someone someday. He sees marriage as nothing more than a lifetime transaction. Out of all the candidates he is presented with, he chooses Kagami.

-Kagami has all the makings of a perfect wife. She’s multi-talented, competent, loyal, beautiful, and genuinely got along with him. These were the main factors that made him choose her out of all the others, but what really stood out to him was how similar she looked to/reminded him of Marinette.

-Marinette Dupain-Cheng has known that she’s been in love with Adrien Agreste for a majority of her life.

-Since she was little, she’s dreamed of being with him forever. It didn’t help that he was literally a prince in a castle. Although it fueled her childhood fantasies, as she matured, she grew to resent that part of him more, because it is what kept them apart, and showed how impossibly different they were.

-She lost more and more hope as the years went by, and visited the castle less, though there was never a moment when she didn’t long to see him.

-She hears of his engagement to Kagami, and knows he chose her himself. She is heartbroken, and decides to move on once and for all, losing any hope she had left.

-While trying to sort out her conflicting feelings, she walks to a nearby river where she meets Luka. He sees how sad she is and plays her a tune on his mandolin to lift her spirits up. It works to calm her down a little.

-Luka is a traveling musician and the brother of her friend Juleka. She’s only heard of him in passing in their conversations.

-She visits the stream more and more to see him. He in turn visits her bakery as often as he can. They grow feelings for one another, though Luka’s feelings for her are stronger.

-While talking with Chat Noir, she tells him she is trying to move on from her first love. He is taken aback by this information and feels as if a rock was just placed on his stomach.

-She tells him she has something going on with a local musician, and soon plans to take the first step forward. She is still not over her first love, but wants to give herself a shot at happiness. The feeling in his chest only grows darker and deeper with every word.

-Oddly enough, it never occurred to him that Marinette could be by anybody’s side other than his own. She was a constant in his life that he never thought would change no matter how far apart they were from each other. He can’t comprehend a future without her.

-Imagining her future with someone else, holding hands, kissing, getting married, having kids, leaving him- he hated it. He hated all of it.

-Adrien is not allowed to be selfish. So naturally, that feeling manifests itself here, because the one thing he truly wants in his life is about to slip between his fingers. Just the thought of her leaving him forever remains. Whatever actions he takes next are to solely stop that from happening.

-Adrien doesn’t understand how to work through his emotions in a healthy way because of how much he’s had to shut off and disassociate from them his entire life. They only come out when he’s around his friends, especially Marinette.

-What Marinette is to him cannot really be explained in words. Just saying romantic partner or friend didn’t seem to be enough. Both categories seem unfulfilling to him.

-He decides to pursue her as Chat Noir.

This became so much more dramatic than I intended it to be but at least it’s out now asdfghjklkjhgf

Ah yes, the og queen bitch. Has my taste for villains ever recovered from Izaya? No. If your villain isn’t at least a bit like Izaya I’m not interested. Durarara was one of my first serious fandoms and Izaya was the first character I ever wrote for and I think you can explain me as a person if you consider Izaya was my all time fav at 13. I can’t really say anything about Izaya that hasn’t been said thousands of times before, I love how goofy and overperformative he can be, I love how there’s so much in him once you crack him open, I love how good of a villain he is for a messy story such as DRRR, puppeteer villains are really a league of their own. We need more puppeteering twinks, maybe then I’d be more into villains yaknow.

3. Hawks from Boku no Hero Academia 

To no ones surprise!Him! I’ve been drifting off from BNHA recently what from catching bad case of JJK what from just reading n watching more other stuff and honestly that’s probably good because I’ve been into BNHA for a couple of years now as my main fandom and I really could have used a break. Not to say I don’t like BNHA anymore tbh I think right now BNHA is the best it’s ever been just ya know, drifting. That being said my love for Hawks will never die, god what a good boy and we got his backstory too aaa ;-;. BNHA was just like Servamp, something I liked but didn’t really have a fav character in until this random support character strolled in and won my heart. God I love how much we got on Hawks. He’s completely different from his initial impression and his unrelenting strive to do good despite being thrown from one horrible situation to the next is just ;-; HES SUCH A GOOD BOY. He’s selfless to a fault, literally putting everyone before himself and putting himself down for not being able to achieve more than is humanly possible I’m just ;-; I WANT HIM TO BE HAPPY. He just makes my heart happy, he’s good and warm and hardworking and in a manga where trauma plays such a major role in so many characters it’s so good to see Hawks there, having been through three different types of hell and still coming out unnerving in his goodness. All I want for him is to have a good life and to one day be able to smile for real.

2. Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen

Again no surprise since I’ve been so into jjk lately. Satoru is p high up rn cuz I’m mainly into JJK now but god knows where he will actually settle. He’s not even really my favorite character in the show, that goes to Inumaki, but this is a list of who I think about the most (tho all of these characters are either no 1 or no 2 for their shows) and boy my brother and foxy can tell you I’m constantly thinking about this bitch. I didn’t really care about him that much at the start but then I got to Hidden Inventory and OH BOY MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. Satoru is such a wonderfully complex character whos evolution you can clearly follow through the years. He’s under so much pressure as the strongest sorcerer to deal with everything and he has to operate in that system trying to change it for the better while at the same time trying to make sure his students arent sacrificed in the name of that change. He has a very goofy disposition but along side with Nanamin who’s a lot more explicit about it, it’s clear he cares about mental state of his students a whole lot. He knows this world is terrible and that the will come out of it with scars and that he can’t protect them from all of it, but he balances protecting and letting them grow as much as he can. They need to grow so jujutsu society can change after all, but they also need to be protected so they don’t fuckin die before that can happen. This is without all the many many opinions I have on Hidden Inventory and SatoSugu as a whole, how they influenced each other, how differently they reacted to their shared trauma (Funny how everyone on this list is fuckin traumatized) and what resulted from it. How their fucking love story is dramatic enough to be a Shakespeare play. Also I like it when he’s long and goofy ahahah

1. Chuuya Nakahara from Bungou Stray Dogs

Not to objectify men on main but I couldn’t choose a picture 

If there is ever a day when I don’t go feral over Chuuya I’ll probably be dead. He not only lives in my head rent free he owns the place.

HES SO UNDERUSED.

BSD has such a great setup with Chuuya, like he’s ex partners with the mentor of the main character who got betrayed and abandoned when the mentor left shared evil organization. Sounds like grounds for drama right? YOUD THINK SO. Like Chuuya and Dazai have such a great and interesting dynamic and you can feel how strained it is from the distance and betrayal and they bicker and fight as their defining relationship trait BUT there is such a strong underlying trust to all the fighting. These two trust each other with their whole lives and that hasn’t changed despite everything, despite how much time has passed and how much that trust had been tested. So you’d think he’d be an important character :) HES STUCK IN SUPPORT HONESTLY HES STUCK IN BACKGROUND UNLESS HES NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING COOL AAAAAA. Chuuya is literally one of a kind, I’ve never seen a character with such a good design and such an cool power and such an interesting relationship to one of the main characters and such a love and support from the fandom BE SO UTERLLY AND COMPLETLY WASTED. Even when we get Chuuya scraps they rarely build on relationship he has in canon but just throw in new random ones at him (tho that’s a broader problem of Kafka throwing new characters at the plot instead of developing the one he already has really). We get a hint of a cool fight with him? Completely cut out, More often then not it just feels like he is benched because he’s so damn strong there would just be no plot tension if he went in and broke some heads (which is also a problem with Satoru, guys stop writing op characters if you’ll just put em on the bus aaa). Anyway he’s completly and utterly wasted by the plot.

And it’s such a waste because he’s such a good character. Like he’s a member if the villain organization and is obviously by that very vicious and violent but also so empathetic and kind to people he considers his friends. He and Dazai have the brawn and brain thing going on and stg Chuuya is like the only brawn I can think of that is classier then their brain. Look at how this guy dressed, he’s high class gay, hat, choker, coat, gloves, he is bringing in the looks. I love how he can actually be completely calm and rational and put together but then put him with Dazai and it’s back to ‘we are 15 and we will scream out heads off at each other’, they are so childish. 

Anyway I love Chuuya he deserves to be treated better and I will never stop screaming about Chuuya ever

Ashes of Love: The Problem with the ‘Protagonists’ Actions and Characterization, and an In-Depth Look at their Concerning ‘Romance’ Part 2

This is a continuation from Part One. Feel free to head on over there to take a look.

Part Two: Issues with Characterization –

Some points mentioned here have already been lightly touched on in part one as they deal with the plot, but they’re going to be looked at more in a characterization sort of way and in a ‘how that comes across to the audience’.

Now, since Ashes of Love is a romance story, it’s natural to assume that there’s going to be some sort of meet-cute, some sort of flirting or courting stage and then some sort of getting together stage that might be accompanied by something a little more concrete physically like kissing or sex or what have you depending on the rating of the show and the image it’s trying to get across.

Now in Ashes of Love, the main two love interests are Xu Feng and Jin Mi, whose characterizations should have some sort of weight to them that allows for a long-standing love story to spring up from them. This can be seen in the ideas of ‘introvert meets extrovert’ or ‘opposites attract’ or ‘birds of a feather flock together’ or some other variation of what personality and characteristics that these characters have that draws them in and is supposed to draw in the audience as well.

Here is where I would say the weakest part of the entire story of Ashes of Love stands. Not in the sometimes dragging storylines that make up the 60+ episode season, but in the base understandings of the two main characters that we as the audience are supposed to root for.

Xu Feng – AKA The Sexual Predator:

One of my biggest pet peeves in a ‘romance’ drama is anytime the two main love interests have some sort of accident – trip and fall, stumble into each other, get pushed into the same small space, etc. – and ‘OMG! Somehow despite height differences and just a basic understanding of how gravity and momentum works’ they’ll fall into a sweet, gentle kiss or somehow just press their lips together and I guess we’re supposed to swoon at the audience at something that really doesn’t mean anything. The fact that no one smashed each other’s noses or foreheads or something is the more impressive moment being seen in that scenario.

I digress though, but unfortunately Ashes of Love has moments like this. Unfortunately it also has moments that are so much worse. Xu Feng takes the kissing and courting parts of the storyline and runs with them from eyeroll territory and into concerned side-eye country. There are several moments, especially early in the show, when Xu Feng chooses to press his luck with Jin Mi and come onto her in a sexual/kissing/pawing at her and starting to take off her clothes while she lays there and looks up at him almost uncomprehendingly sort of way. He’s putting it all out there and out on the line, but somehow he’s not able to catch onto the fact that Jin Mi isn’t picking it up or worse, he doesn’t care and continues to press because it’s what he wants/desires.

Xu Feng’s character is a mess of ‘but she didn’t say no’ and ‘I don’t care that she’s chosen someone else I know she loves me so I have to keep pushing’ and my absolute favorite ‘Uncle, be a bro and tie us together using your mortal love fate strings for no reason other than I want to go get it on with my brother’s fiancé while I pretend I’m doing it to protect her and not take advantage of her in a vulnerable situation but it’s okay because I swear we truly love each other even though she’s never said it because she can’t actually say it right now but it’s going to be just fine just you wait’.

This is also the character who – and I would call this scene a full on assault scene regardless of him stopping himself before he goes too far and I’ll explain why – that got drunk and practically threw Jin Mi onto the bed before climbing over her and pulling at her clothes while she just laid there and blinked up at him with a kind of look that seemed innocent, uncomprehending and trusting. She had no clue what was happening in that moment as he pushes his luck. I’ll give – he stops himself though, as he should but not for the reasons he should. Why does he stop? Because at this point he thinks that there’s a possibility that she’s his sister. If he hadn’t thought that, would he have pushed harder? Would he have gone further? Who knows.

On top of creepy entitled behaviors that he shows to Jin Mi, he also takes pleasure in being unnecessarily cruel to her. The little back and forth in the Heaven Realm when he turned her into all of the various items to ‘teach her a lesson’ was not cute to me. It was borderline sadistic and just downright fucked up.

Leaving Jin Mi behind, Xu Feng still falls short when it comes to his characterization. He’s portrayed as a kind of Gary Stu. He’s the best at everything. The most powerful. He’s unchallenged by any other character – look at how the entire demon army flees before him! Look at how undefeatable he is in battle! Look at how easily he talks back to his mother with no repercussions! Look at how easily he ignores any possible feelings his brother might have and just keeps on pushing! Look at how every other side character prefers him! What a stud! (note sarcasm). Honestly Xu Feng is a character with no obstacles. The only one he has is that he is in love with his brother’s fiancé and his brother won’t give her up to him because he loves her too. How dare he! He’s evil incarnate! (note sarcasm again)

Plus, we have the narrative trying to portray Xu Feng as a supposedly moral and upright character in contrast to Run Yu who is a schemer. There’s just one problem. It’s easy to be lighthearted and benevolent and chill when you’ve never faced a day of hardship in your life, when you’ve clearly never been told no before and when the roulette wheel of fate always spins in your favor. What hardships has Xu Feng truly had to overcome? Everyone loves him and he is the Greatest at Everything™. We see his narrow world view though and how only what happens to him matters when he deals with the information about the Heavenly Empress’s tyrannical torture and killing fests. He doesn’t care that Run Yu has just lost his mother and has been tortured for the survivors he wants to talk about him and get Jin Mi. He doesn’t care that his mother murdered thousands of people because the Heavenly Emperor couldn’t keep it in his pants, how dare Run Yu disrespect her. Who cares if Xu Feng is the one who started them all down this path of misery by refusing to stop chasing after a woman who told him to stop and just kept pushing until he eventually won, he’s going to feel like he’s righteous enough to tell his brother to be alone for eternity as a price to be paid for what’s happened while Xu Feng goes to find a way to flounce off with Jin Mi and live happily ever after. Who cares if Xu Feng stripped Sui He of her powers and her sanity and threw her out to be tortured and eaten by demons without a trial or anything like that, everyone cheered him and he got the girl! Clearly he was right!

Jin Mi – AKA Born Sexy Yesterday:

Jin Mi’s whole characters storyline and plot depends and hangs onto the fact that Jin Mi is ‘naïve and sheltered’ and that she doesn’t have the ability to either consent or not consent to a male leads love. It’s because she doesn’t know what that is and can’t recognize these weird things he does! Like kiss her? Like start pulling off her clothes? Why would she say no? It’s all innocent fun!

Oh but wait, now she’s going to fall in love with this person because…because he’s constantly there and pawing at her regardless of what she says or does or how she reacts! Yay! True Love FTW! But it’s all okay because it might be that she was in love with him the whole time but it’s a good thing that he recognized it because she can’t figure out her own feelings and wrapping her mind around complicated things like love is just too hard so all of his attentions are okay somehow even though they were still done without consent but that’s okay because deep down she truly loved him. [flips a table in the distance].

Unfortunately Jin Mi’s whole story is all about her lack of agency or characters taking it away. Her mother gives her the pill. Her father sells her away before he even knows that she’s been born in an engagement to the Heaven Realm. Xu Feng continuously ignores what she says and pushes himself into her sphere and hounds her over and over again. Run Yu restores the pill and later holds her captive in the Heaven Realm. The Moon Immortal and Yan You literally turn her into a puppet to put her in wedding clothes and shove her at Xu Feng without her permission. How is any of this okay? Jin Mi needs to get the fuck out.

Plus, the story never seems to understand the limits of the pill. She can feel love, just not romantic love because she feels sibling/friendship love for her cactus friend and mourns her death. She acknowledges that she likes people like Run Yu and understands the concept of marriage and mothers and fathers despite somehow not understanding that Xu Feng is a boy and has different equipment. At certain points her level of ditzy and uncomprehending everything and anything was baffling for a woman who is thousands of years old. Sure, she lived sheltered in the Flower Realm so that’s why she got confused at a dick and wanted to cut it off…. but wait…there are men in the Flower Realm which means she would have come to understand the differences. A child catches onto them pretty quickly and that’s within two to five years. Why can Jin Mi not figure that out after four or five thousand?

This all adds up to the most irritating moment of characterization for Jin Mi. Wherein she decides based off of information that she has – before it’s verified or investigated into – to kill Xu Feng with her own hands. This is an action that Jin Mi chooses to take. Run Yu does not push her into this. Run Yu does not tell her to do this. He does not force her to kill Xu Feng. Later though, because of her guilt she throws the responsibility for her actions onto him and blames him and tears him down because of her own guilt. This is not okay for the supposedly main female lead. It’s not okay for anyone to demonize someone else and leave them holding the bag for something they had no control over. Learn to take responsibility for your own actions. It sucks, but you did it. He didn’t. Blaming him and saying that he doesn’t feel/understand love crossed a line after everything.

 The extra characterizations of the other main characters I’m not going to go into but I will sum up as this:

Sui He – Bechdel Tests Worst Nightmare AKA Female Character Only Exists To Further Male Story And Fawn Over Him.

Run Yu – But By God He’s Pretty When He Suffers AKA Actually a Disney Prince Cast Into Role Of Sea Witch For Reasons Unknown.

Tu Yao – Obvious Over The Top Bad Guy Is Obvious And Will Never Let You Forget It

Tai Wei – Satan’s Butthole.
