[ID: Digital artwork featuring a variety of animal characters. The first drawing features a bird, with wings resembling a cartoon skull when folded, long legs, a plague-doctor-like face, and two long tail feathers resembling hands. She's drawn both flying and standing. The next two artworks are a reference of a dog character named Lunchbox, which also has tick characteristics. The first shows them with a small, relatively normal form where they closely resemble a retro pug, with centaur-like anatomy and tick legs growing out of their chest. Their 2nd form is much bigger, gaining the color pallet and pattern of a brown dog tick, having limbs and a head that resemble the arachnid. The other part of the reference shows a 3rd form, where they resemble an engorged tick and their head and limbs grow even bigger. The rest of the ref is dedicated to showing how they can fold their body parts to take other minor forms. The last two drawings feature a lion called Lumen Days, shown both as a child and adult. Their child form resembles a cat, with a fur pattern mimicking a crescent moon phase. Their adult form has a mane made of moons and a larger body, alongside a bonus form where they mimic a lunar eclipse, their mane becoming the sun's rays. End ID]

This is an addition to my previous post where I shared some pumpkin-carving stencils I designed because: Halloween. Like I said in the last post, there's a bunch so this one will be limited to just the master-level stencils. [Other stencils: Easy/Intermediate | Insane] Some of these are based off artwork I've done in the past.
I plan on carving the Ghost Wolf Skull this year because I think the design came out pretty neat. I'll have to remember to post my carving.
I don't have a lot of photos of my own carvings because I've designed more stencils than I've carved, but I did manage to find these not-so-great photos of when I carved the Zombie Candy Corn stencil lol So here you go, as a treat:
I do have some photos of when I carved the pug stencil too, somewhere. I just need to find them.
I do also sell the stencils on my Etsy, (and on my Ko-Fi too) if anyone feels like they want to give one of these a try.

I think sometimes people think eugenics is bad but its still true, like thinking that if people with certain traits have children it will change society for better or worse based upon what traits are promoted. I think its important to emphasize that eugenics is not only wrong morally it's also fake and stupid bullshit
Like eugenics was supposed to be based on the idea that "If it works with animals to select only the best ones to breed, why wouldn't it work with humans?"
well it doesn't work with animals, that's the thing. applying the eugenics ideas to domestic breeds of animals hasn't made better animals it's just made animals with more extreme expression of certain traits. turns out that when you decide which traits are the "best" and become obsessed with the genetic purity of the animals that have the "best" traits, you might well end up with some sad suffering creature like a Pug, or the Persian cats with the smashed faces that are in constant pain because their teeth and airways and brains are getting crushed by their skulls, or those meat chickens that grow so fast they can hardly even stand up after a few weeks old, or inbred race horses with tiny feet and fragile toothpick legs
like almost all traits are neither "good" or "bad" they're way more complex than that. a long tail or a long snout or a stubborn, independent personality can be good or bad depending on the situation. Who gets to decide what is a "good" trait or a "bad" trait? It's arbitrary and selecting for traits that are "good" in your opinion will often have both "good" and "bad" outcomes because the "good" and "bad" are part of each other and not separate its just part of being alive
Obviously oversimplifying everything but you get it. we did eugenics with dogs and how did that go? not very well

I may be looking too into this, but... is this an extra limb??
Uniima larvae come in large numbers but high mortality rate as these onigiri have to compete to become juveniles even in the egg case.
They start off with an egg wall. Their bodies are still clumbs of cells that slowly fill up the inside of the 'egg', consuming the included nutrients. Once they are ready, the baby grows it's own wall for the first time and 'hatches'.
After this the larvae molts as it grows with a new wall each time. During the whole larval period the shed skin sticks to the white. If adults don't clean them up, you will see multiple torn layers on top of the white, which can cause issues.
The white grows a straw. A somewhat brittle organ compared to that of ancestral larvae but functional enough to pierce under another whites wall (especially in the side seam). The larva actively feeds itself using this, though the food has to be liquid enough to get through the straw. They don't smell or see to search for food and will just wiggle the straw around until they can slurp. These triangles are mostly fat and liquids with other tissues in the center and thowards straw.
When they completely lose the straw (the entrance to it reforms), they start eating with their new mouth. At this point they also start making noise with their nostrils. Adult Uniima are sensitive to this much more than to the visual cuteness of the larva. This is often when adults start claming individuals to raise.
As the creature grows and gains complexity inside its own wall, it's new molts allow for use of more developed parts - anal cavity opens, ear cycles appear, eyes get bigger and closer to the wall surface, "mouth hands" with leathery pads emerge.. and lastly it's whole legs with fingers (often just silhouettes of feet show up rather then whole fingers or they are webbed).
After it's last stage and sufficient amounts of food, the white goes dormant to metamorphosise. This can take a week and less as most juvenile components are already in place.
The larval stages of Uniima can differ in length depending of environment - temperature, humidity, lack of food...
The average time from birth to metamorphosis is around 3 and half earth months.
The images here are not fully up to scale. Most larvae grow more between the stages but it's also not impossible for it to be to scale. I would just consider this larva a runt of the litter.
#3 MONTHS??#DAMB#also i had to double check the gender page to make sure#That's very interesting that they just kinda... pick a couple chips out the bag to raise LOL#Uniima communities must be really strong#Or maybe not?#Ofc there's families and the individual families are obvi more close knit#but with how humans fret over monogamy and whether their kids are theirs this is interesting#Also#cuteness being more auditory!#are higher pitches cuter? Is there a baby voice that they find cute?#And when it comes to domestication#would a “pug” be a domesticated creature whose pharynx have shrunk to the point they can't breathe BUT they make cute squeaks/noises#so many unrelated questions HSBDHSV#Also it's fascinating how skinny the uniima skull is#I mean you've drawn it before but with how vital those big big heads are#And that one muscle diagram is really well drawn!#which#I mean I applaud you you didn't have a lot of space LOL#it's also just super good looking

A cat’s nose should not be level with it’s eyes.
#long version is flat faced cats often have breathing problems like pugs#and sometimes their skull is too small for their brain to grow to full size :(

i can't believe i've witnessed several practicing veterinarians defending extreme brachycephaly by arguing that brachycephalic skulls occur naturally in several species in the wild. yeah debrah the difference is that tarsiers evolved flat faces over millions of years and humans have squished pug skulls in like 200 years. none of its insides have otherwise adapted to that shape it's all crammed in there.
look how neatly arranged and tidy the tarsier jaws are, that just isn't comparable to a longer snouted animal we have selectively bred to be very short in a fraction of the timespan.
#honestly it's really crazy and impressive how much humans can speedrun dramatic changes in species#we are living science fiction
