Bandelier's human history extends back for over 10,000 years when nomadic hunter-gatherers followed migrating wildlife across the mesas and canyons. By 1150 CE, Ancestral Pueblo people began to build more permanent settlements via homes carved from the volcanic tuff and planted crops in mesatop fields. By 1550 the Ancestral Pueblo people had moved from their homes here to pueblos along the Rio Grande. . Getting good photos was a challenge in the noon sun, but the experience of exploring the cliffside homes + climbing 140 feet up on wooden ladders to the kiva was unforgettable. One of many long, but very worthwhile NM drives. . . #bandeliernationalmonument #bandelier #goparks #nps #nationalparks #explorepage #explore #exploreeverything #pueblopeople #indigenous #newmexico #igersnewmexico #southwest #americansouthwest #historynerd #travelphotography #travellogue #travel #solotrip #solotravel #greatoutdoors (at Bandelier National Monument) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0MxtTAprxP/?igshid=1addbpoi209mk

“Hold on to what is good, Even if it's a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe, Even if it's a tree that stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do, Even if it's a long way from here. Hold on to your life, Even if it's easier to let go. Hold on to my hand, Even if someday I'll be gone away from you.” - Pueblo Prayer • “The Puebloans or Pueblo peoples, are Native Americans in the Southwestern United States who share common agricultural, material and religious practices. When Spaniards entered the area beginning in the 16th century, they came across complex, multi-story villages built of adobe, stone and other local materials, which they called pueblos, or towns, a term that later came to refer also to the peoples who live in these villages. There are currently 19 Pueblos that are still inhabited, among which Taos, San Ildefonso, Acoma, Zuni, and Hopi are the best-known. Pueblo communities are located in the present-day states of New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, mostly along the Rio Grande and Colorado rivers and their tributaries. The term Anasazi is sometimes used to refer to Pueblo people but it is now largely dispreferred. Anasazi is a Navajo word that means Ancient Ones or Ancient Enemy, hence Pueblo peoples' rejection of it. Puebloans speak languages from four different language families, and each Pueblo is further divided culturally by kinship systems and agricultural practices, although all cultivate varieties of maize. Despite increasing pressure from Spanish and later Anglo-American forces, Pueblo nations have maintained much of their traditional cultures, which center around agricultural practices, a tight-knit community revolving around family clans and respect for tradition. Puebloans have been remarkably adept at preserving their core religious beliefs all the while developing a syncretic approach to Catholicism. In the 21st century, some 35,000 Pueblo are estimated to live in New Mexico and Arizona.” - Wikipedia • #Quote #Pueblo Prayer #Puebloans #PuebloPeople #FirstNations #IndigenousPeople #TheFirstAmericans #NewMexicoHeritage #ArizonaHeritage #NativeAmericanHeritage https://www.instagram.com/p/CK40KYeBLD7/?igshid=47es57s4qfjt

There is a beautiful hike above Pueblo Bonito in Chaco Culture National Historical Park, New Mexico. In the winter there is hardly anyone there, and the snow outlines the buildings wonderfully. This is one of my favorite places to explore in the United States. One becomes transported in time to when Chaco Canyon was the cultural center of ancient Pueblo Peoples. It is a world UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is essential for Americans to know about our history. I feel what makes us unique as a country is the Native Ameican heritage of the land. If you want to see more of the southwest, you can order a signed copy of my book Carved By Time: Landscapes Of The Southwest from my website * * * * * #chacoculturenationalhistoricalpark #newmexico #chacocanyon #nationalparks #travel #traveldeeper #UNESCOWorldHeritageSite #pueblobonito #wildandscenic #travelnewmexico #camping #minimalism #PuebloPeople #sharewonder #TLPicks #traveldeeper #soutwest #explore #wanderlust #anasazi #beautifuldestinations #ushistory #NeverStopExploring #LP #humanhistory #ushistory #winter #snow #carvedbytime #architecture https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs9SZx1A00-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=agq0m5bo6xmo

Any Other E adesso cosa faccio, smetto di suonare? Quietly. Going Away”. I will try to keep the guilt separated from my temptation of blaming it all on me” in “5.47 p.m.”). Quietly. Going Away” a settembre.

Pueblo People

New Mexico’s Native American Heritage Puye Cliff Dwellings I first visited this location in the Spring of 1994 during a visit to New Mexico while I still lived in Massachusetts. Here I am posing beside one of the cliff top dwellings. The photo was taken by my then partner Gregory. “The Puye Cliff Dwellings are the ruins of an abandoned pueblo, located in Santa Clara Canyon on Santa Clara Pueblo land near Española, New Mexico. The site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966. Ancient pueblo dwellings Between 900 and 1580, up to 1500 Pueblo Indians lived in the area where they hunted game and cultivated food. Native peoples first settled in the area in the late 10th century of the Pueblo II Era, living in dispersed farmstead dwellings at the east side of the Jemez Mountains. Their settlements increased and changed over time in the Pueblo III Era, when they lived in larger, concentrated villages of Otowi, Puye, Shufinne, Tsankawi, Tsirege, and Tyuonyi.” #NewMexico #NativeAmericanHeritage #IndigenousAmericans #PuebloPeople #CliffDwellings #PuyeCliffDwellings #SantaClaraPueblo #SantaClaraCanyon #EspañolaNM #NewMexico #LandOfEnchantments https://www.instagram.com/p/CJpVceCFbUa/?igshid=1bcflqj3hytdt
