What is missing?
Artwork(s) | Lin | 2024 | US/Internatinoal
lin, M. (2024) What is missing? [Arts Programme]. Available at: https://www.whatismissing.org/.
Described as a memorial - this is a multi-work, multi-site response to questions of extinction that combines scienific data, art and personal accounts.
"What Is Missing? asks us to look at a memorial not as a singular, static object, but as a work that can exist in multiple forms and places around the world.
The memorial includes permanent sound and media sculptures, traveling exhibits, temporary installations, and this website - serving as the nexus for the entire project." (https://www.whatismissing.org/about)
One of the artworks is included in the blog: https://www.tumblr.com/timeandart/750371456036290560/nbspnbspnbspnbsp-ghost-forest-madison-square?source=share

We are often asked if multiple ink colors can be used on a single impression. In this video, Jared letterpress prints a phrase about museums showing that 6 ink colors is possible. The phrase “Museums are not neutral” was printed with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple ink using our Washington hand press. The wood type used is 15 line pica in size and the typeface is French Clarendon.
Our museum, like all museums, is not neutral. People often argue that museums should be neutral or that museums can’t be “political.” However, museums actually are cultural institutions that originate from colonial acquisition and they are about power. History is often written by the victors. It is important for museums to focus on multiple sources and perspectives, especially historically underrepresented groups. Promoting diversity is important to understanding a more holistic history of events.

people are drawing Steamboat Willie Mickey doing all this crazy shit and whatnot, but you could always do that. you can do that now, with current Mickey, just fine. it's fanart and it's legally protected. hell you could take Disney-drawn Mickey and put a caption about unions or whatever on it and it would still be protected under free speech and sometimes even parody law.
what is special about public domain is that you can SELL him. you could take a screenshot and sell it on a tshirt. you can use him to advertise your plumbing business. people have already uploaded and monetized the original film.
you could always have Mickey say what you want, but now you can profit off it.

Ice, Art, and Being Human
Essay
Abstract
"In the depths of human consciousness, there is a collective notion of a time long past. It is a time before we had the knowledge or the insight to understand how the world works, and it was a time before we had the capacity to influence the world around us. We were innocent and we called this state paradise. One can read the narrative of human history as mirroring the development of a person from the carefree innocence of childhood into adulthood, with the knowledge and responsibility that entails. Yet, one could also make the claim that this narrative of humanity’s childhood is a collective, accurate memory of events of such enormous proportions that we are still struggling to come to terms with it, in our mythologies and religions, thousands of years later. The collective memory so deeply etched into our consciousness is a memory of ice and the effect ice has had, not just on the climate, but on our entire civilisation."

Do you ever have a dumb silly thought at 2am and think "haha I should draw that" and then decide gradually to make it a 6 page comic just because? 🤷‍♀️
