some of my friends and I (hi @merupasse and @cyclopsboxhead) are working on our own little version of the marvel universe a la elseworld or “what if?” and I’ve been rewatching the new timeline xmen movies so naturally I had to do my own little version of Professor X (and a little Magneto) pre-xmen.
Really enjoyed how XMFC and DOFP reinterpreted the X-Men mythos through the lens of 60s/70s culture and politics, and I wanted to take that and push it even further. Charles’ pacifism fits in nicely with the hippie movement and I’ve been doing a lot of reading on 60s psychedelia lately so I decided to make him a Timothy Leary-type drug guru figure who uses psychedelics to develop his mutant abilities. (There’s a lot of very clear DOFP Charles DNA in this especially vis a vis addiction and telepathy.) Another fringe part of 60s psychedelia I’ve been deeply invested in is self-trepanation (yeah I don’t know either but if you go on your own little research deep dive I think you will understand) which is so perfect for this I couldn’t resist.
in conclusion
#This is barely an xmen adaptation it’s holding on by a thread#but I’m interested in this specifically as a kind of retelling like you would do with a myth so I kind of love how disparate it is#Also I’m having fun and that what’s most important I think#my art#my comics#xmen#x-men#professor x#magneto#charles xavier#erik lehnsherr#marvel comics#au#elseworlds#redesign

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Queer once you see it!!
Hi! Just got home, feeling many things. I haven't read Burroughs' novella so I'm not familiar with the details. I enjoyed the first part of the movie (the first two chapters), but then it slowly started to lose me a bit in the second part. It's obviously visually stunning, like every Guadagnino movie. Sayombhu Mukdeeprom's cinematography strikes again. I suppose this movie is a case of style over substance. Then again, telepathy is kind of a theme here, Lee wanting to know how Gene actually feels about him, what he thinks, so neither we nor Lee know the substance (of Gene's mind). The film was definitely suspenseful, I really did not know where this would go, which is appropriate considering the psychedelic nature, it does feel like a trip, or at least a fever dream. Wasn't expecting all the horror elements through the nightmares and body horror. It did feel like I was watching 2 different movies. Daniel Craig's performance was great, loved his horny, impatient, sweaty presence, but I loved Jason Schwartzman even more, he was brilliant, kinda wanted to see more of his character. I'm not sure how I feel about Drew Starkey bc he doesn't give much, but then again it is kind of the point of his character. What I love is that Luca Guadagnino is bringing some sex, some eroticism, tension and desire to mainstream cinema that I feel has gotten lost in the last decade or so. He always delivers on sensuality and quiet intensity. There's always something simmering under the surface. I think the movie captured the desire and anxiety that come with liking someone, wanting them so badly you should be sent to the gallows while also feeling incredibly insecure over what they are feeling and the sting of potential rejection. Wanting love, but fearing someone knowing you. The movie did motivate me to read Burroughs, I want to get a better insight, but also just from what I know of him and his work, it does seem like only a madman would adapt this into a film. I think this was a risk, especially after Challengers, but maybe one worth taking. I can't not mention the soundtrack, all the usual praises to Trent and Atticus, goes without saying, but I also adored the anachronistic nature of the soundtrack, I mean Nirvana was such an inspired choice. Obviously Prince and New Order as well. All in all, I enjoyed it, but I needed more, much much more.

Next is Aquaman: Deadly Waters, collecting issues #49-56 of the Sea King’s book from 1970-71. I’m not quite through with this one either, but I did want to talk about the deeply weird issues #50-52. The book’s regular creative team was writer Steve Skeates and artist Jim Aparo, but for these three issues they were joined by Neal Adams doing Deadman backup stories. Basically Aquaman got transported to an alien world and had to find his way home, while Deadman saw what the aliens (and their ally Ocean Master) were up to, and figured out how to stop it. The result was the most psychedelic Jim Aparo art I have yet seen, a few mood-breaking meta moments (“weird telepathy” is depicted as “floating names of DC staffers”), and some unexpected Star Trek references. It wasn’t bad, and it did kind of make sense in the end, but it was just odd. I would love to hear the story of how it all came together.
--Tom Bondurant talking about some early, trippy 1970s Aquaman comics.

Info File:: [Phantom Hornet]
Info File: [Phantom Hornet]
Name: Vincent (birth name Elena)
Codename: Phantom Hornet, “Montauk”
DOB: 7/18/1974
Nationality: Cypriot
Hair: Black
Eyes: Pale grey
Gender: Male (AFAB, transman)
Height: 5’5
Weight: 140 lbs
Languages: Greek, English, Russian, Turkish
Abilities: Can manipulate emotions, particularly fear. Can plant suggestions and impulses in peoples’ minds. Able to communicate with animals and the dead. Able to alter one’s perception of reality, to the point of destroying one’s perception of reality entirely. Superhuman strength/agility. Bite force on par with a medium sized wildcat. Incredible night vision due to tapetum lucidum (eyeshine). Heightened sense of smell (due to having a developed Jacobson’s organ in the roof of his mouth) and hearing.
History, early childhood:
Born on July 18, 1974 on Cypriot soil a few days before the beginning of the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus. Parents fled to the US as a result of the invasion, where they ended up in a small town in Nevada, near the Mojave desert.
He was born a girl, to a resentful father and a neurotic mother. His father would resent him for being born female and his mother was obsessed with stuffing him into a role he simply could not fill.
As he grew, he became more withdrawn from human interaction, instead preferring to spend time with the local strays (mostly cats). Due to this, his innate psychic abilities would begin to cause changes in his appearance, as he was absorbing the traits of things around him. His eyes would become more cat-like and, upon losing his baby teeth, would obtain the canines and sharpened, thick molars of a predator.
It would also begin to initiate behavioral changes in him as well, causing him to adopt more animalistic tendencies. He was awkward around other kids his age, who would find him offputting due to his unusual behaviors and appearance. Due to this rejection by his peers, he would spend most of his time playing in junkyards and abandoned places with his feline companions.
His life would turn a sharp corner when his peers found out that messing with his feline companions would cause him distress. One day, the kids would take things too far and seriously hurt one of his favorite cats, causing him to release a burst of psychic energy in his anger. The rage behind the energy would cause the kids to go into a crazed frenzy, violently murdering each other as he watched, horrified.
The town would, understandably, blame the new family and their strange child, which caused his parents much grief and resentment. His parents would then begin locking him inside the house, hiding him away out of embarrassment and hatred.
It wouldn’t take long before the incident reached the ears of government officials, who would visit the family and their odd child. They would offer to take him off their hands, in return for dismissal of charges. His parents would readily agree, practically shoving their frightened 8-year old out the door without a second thought. He would spend many years in military research facilities.
History, 1983-1999
He would become the subject of “Project Montauk”, a project intended to rival Russia’s research into psychic ability. However, he would prove to be nowhere near as skilled with his psychic abilities as they expected. Though he was formidable, he just didn’t have the psychokinesis and telepathy they were looking for.
Since he displayed animalistic tendencies, the project began to lean into this instead, seeing a potentially deadly asset in him, even if he didn’t possess the exact abilities they were searching for. He would receive his claw implants at this time, replacing most of his finger bones with nanotech that would give him retractable metal claws.
“Project Montauk” also involved drug research, using him to test various hallucinogenic, psychedelic substances for the sake of interrogation. This research would cause him to experience ego death at an early age, further destroying his sense of self and humanity. He would begin to see himself as something ‘other’, not human but not quite animal either. This would also cause him to understand his psychic abilities better, and his ability to alter one’s perception would come to the surface.
He would begin transition at 13 years old, taking the name ‘Vincent’ and shedding his old self entirely.
Due to his broken sense of humanity, he would maul most researchers that worked with him, biting off fingers and mauling faces. He would also attack due to repressed memories of being raped repeatedly while he was sedated when he was younger.
He would be trained in assassinwork and spywork, becoming a force to be reckoned with, a creature of deadly precision and efficiency.
In 1995, he would be given a mission to gather intelligence on, and assassinate, a certain Russian psychic that had just been hired on by the FBI.
He would enter this mission with the full intent of finishing the job, but he would be slowly charmed by the man he was sent to kill. Slowly but surely, the two of them began to fall for each other, spending more and more time together. They would become very close, often sleeping together and going out to just spend time with each other.
Of course, even though he was falling hard for his target, his employers were running out of patience. Eventually, he would be threatened with death if he didn’t finish the job, and he was forced to leave his lover abruptly. He would leave in the middle of the night, leaving a note on the pillow saying how sorry he was that he had to leave like this.
History, 1999-2005
Heartbroken by leaving his lover in order to protect him, he would return to his employers as a failure, saying that his target had slipped through his fingers and had disappeared.
Years later, he would be given a ‘last chance’, a mission of importance. He had become reckless and obstinate, doing things his own way and often risking his own life and the mission. He would be inserted into FOXHOUND as a spy, with the intent of gathering intelligence on the group.
He received the codename Phantom Hornet.
Little did he know, this was intended to be a suicide mission by his superiors-either he completed the job and came back alive, or he would be killed upon being found out. Either way, they either got their info or they got rid of the operative that had been causing them so much grief.
Upon meeting the main member of FOXHOUND, his stomach dropped when he saw that all too familiar gas mask. How ironic that he would meet with his lover, in the same situation.
Hornet would approach Mantis later, attempting to break the ice only to be met with cold professionalism from his past lover.
It would take a few weeks before Mantis would begin softening his stance toward Hornet, revealing that he’d kept the note Hornet left. This was like a punch in the gut to Hornet, and he began to really think things over. Did he really want to go through with this? Do his job and then be shoved back into his empty, barren cell until he was useful again? Or…did he want to stay here, with the only person that had ever cared about him?
He would defect to FOXHOUND the following day, asking Mantis to help him dump the equipment his employers gave him into the ocean, permanently severing his ties to his employers. Moved by Hornet’s display of loyalty, he would continue opening up to him, eventually getting back to where they were when Hornet left. They would eventually join minds, achieving the highest level of bonding between two psychics.

Defrauded marauded traumatized terrorized years now being Forced yet again via family court threat of police arresting in bedroom again to remanding to prison if I don’t “voluntarily” surrender myself to Allan Serchuk, the SA government and global major organised violent crimes and terror syndicate to another corrupt rehab centre making it 2,5 yrs total of past 8 years of slavery held captive in the wrong country, continent hemisphere, impersonated globally primarily in the UK for employment contracts and salary of £30 million that they highjacked along with my special licenses contracts and frequencies all linked directly to my telepathic brain and body so vocal chords and ability to communicate thousands of kilometres vocally, no microphone, with a mere whisper. No headset for telepathic ability that I was traumatized into in London, Hampstead Village June/July 2016 covert hypnosis into mental into synthetic telepathic and vocal fqy abilities all induced by psychedelic spikings, at least 15-20 times London and Cape Town. To my knowledge, deductions and via their confessions it was only meant to be a vocal fqy network project with mental telepathy and the whole thing was highjacked by this criminal syndicate operating on inside info. I have been forced to defend innocent lives against mortal danger and work for global neighborhoods 24/7 for 8 yrs now in efforts to reach people morally, mentally, spiritually and emotionally as I have done around the clock literally since July 2016 to date. This most certainly was never my intended remit as attempted life was meant to be the complete opposite past 8 diabolical years in pain, trauma affliction and suffering . Was meant to be living my past Normal life of 37 beautiful years travelling the world communicating on my fqy’s whilst motivating, inspiring, aiding, educating attempted tittilating to instil a sense of passion in peoples’ lives from individuals to families, neighbours at home to the workplace, to fire up passion in life and ultimately an esoteric feeling of romanticism and the embracing of a culture technology relationship in our lives which is inherently disproportionate ito growth levels.

Colin Wilson (June 26, 1931 - Dec. 5, 2013) was one of the intellectual heroes of the psychedelic 60s. Wilson's first impressions after reading Lovecraft's tales in the fabled Arkham House book THE OUTSIDER AND OTHERS were extremely mixed. He called Lovecraft "totally sick" in his non-fiction publication THE STRENGTH TO DREAM. Wilson was a noted new-age philosopher calling his belief system "new existentialism". Unfortunately Wilson was rather sloppy where it came to his investigations of Lovecraft. If he had bothered to read HPL's letters he might have realized that Lovecraft's attitudes as a thinker were very much in line with Wilson's own existentialist attitude. Where the two men differed was in the fact that Wilson believed that humankind was still evolving. He was convinced that telekinesis, telepathy, and other such 'paranormal' abilities were on the horizon for humanity. Lovecraft made it plain in his letters that he believed no such thing and that our best days as a species were behind us. Below is a photo of Wilson as a young man. Also included are copies of quotes Wilson included in the landmark Lovecraftian publication, H. P. L. Wilson sites Cthulhu as the 'leader' of Lovecraft's demon-monsters. He also mistakenly mentions that Cthulhu rests at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean rather than the Pacific. Well, we all make mistakes now and then! (Exhibit 377)

So, here’s a quick storyline/plot summary and some quick redesign sketches (plus one art commission sketch) of my own personal AU version of the highly obscure Golden Age and Public Domain furry superhero named “Pussy Katnip” that I drew and wrote down just recently. So, I hope that you all like this and enjoy.
Pussy Katnip: Private Eye
~ (The Main Storyline/Plot):
So in the particularly strange midwestern metropolis of River City, USA on an alternate earth that is vastly populated by both regular humans, super-humans & anthropomorphic mutant animals, the normally fun-loving, thrill-seeking, easygoing & adventurous Priscilla “Pussy Katnip” Katz happens to be a famous torch singer and sometimes a private investigator who regularly operates at the local “Kitty Kat Lounge” that is located deep within the dangerous streets and slums of River City’s Mutt-Town.
However, whenever she “smells trouble” or any kind of danger, Pussy will sneak away to find some privacy as she takes a swig from either the hip flasks she often carries, or from a large bottle hidden in her apartment upstairs from the club, of a highly psychedelic super tonic she had invented which she calls "The Fizz” or “Katnip Fizz” that for a short time boosts her natural feline strength, speed, agility and reflexes to superhuman levels, while at the same time raising her “trouble senses” to full blown clairvoyance that lets her tell when “mugs” much bigger than herself were about to take a swing at her, among having various other psychic abilities such as telepathy & telekinesis. Thus with her enhanced abilities, she keeps the people of Mutt-Town safe from evil-doers and keeps them entertained as well.
~ (The Main Heroes/Protagonists):
* Priscilla "Pussy Catnip” Katz (The Famous Torch Singer & Super-Powered Part-Time Psychic Private Eye)

from ESP EXPERIMENTS WITH LSD-25 AND PSILOCYBIN: A Methodological Approach by Cavanna, Roberto and Servadio, Emilio, 1964 by Davivid Rose Via Flickr: Published by The Parapsychology Foundation, New York. (Formerly in my private research library) (They did NOT find any evidence that "extrasensory perception" [ESP] exists. If they had, they would have become extraordinarily famous and their research results would have RADICALLY changed the way scientists think the physical universe operates. The same would happen if someone were to find ANY evidence that "God" exists...) ("What might have happened" can sometimes be reasonable conjecture. When "what might have happened" becomes "what must have happened", it is a delusion, and can sometimes be a symptom of serious mental illness such as schizophrenia. Correlation does not imply causation.) When I was 13 years old in 1964 and in the eighth grade, my parents were told that I was going to fail that year and have to do the eighth grade again unless I was allowed to go to Winston-Salem and participate in a residential "education experiment" called the "North Carolina Advancement School" (NCAS). (An old and rather grim photo of what the exterior of the Advancement School [which had formerly been a large hospital] looked like can be seen on the ncpedia website.) After extensive testing I was told that I was to be part of an experiment in self-education. It was called "Group O". I was given an office, unlimited funding, and no adult supervision, free to come and go from the campus and the dorms as I saw fit. My family, who lived in a city quite distant from Winston-Salem, were NOT allowed to visit. I really had FUN! My research project was a study on the subject of ESP. I was already well-read on the subject and I contacted some researchers at a parapsychology lab at Duke University and J.B. Rhine and associates at the Foundation For Research On The Nature Of Man gave me valuable assistance in my work. When I read a report of experiments using LSD, etc. in ESP tests, I was fascinated. Having no access to LSD, I designed tests where I had my subjects (some hypnotized and some not) sniff glue. In other tests I administered electric shocks, sometimes in addition to hypnosis and glue-sniffing... ("...you are opening the gates of hell!!!..." ---powerful North Carolina legislator's wife, yelling at me about my ESP research, during her visit to NCAS.) ("The intake of drugs in connection with divinatory practices is probably as old as mankind." ---Cavanna and Servadio.) ("The results indicated accurate comparisons in approximately 1 in 3 of the targets for LSD, with a rate of only 1 in 10 for the no-drug control condition." ---David P. Luke, commenting on the research by Cavanna and Servadio, in "Psychedelic Substances and Paranormal Phenomena: A Review of the Research", the Rhine Research Center, in the Journal of Parapsychology, Durham, North Carolina, 2008. [Rhine had once intended to become a Christian minister...NO OTHER RESEARCHERS WERE EVER ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENTS THAT RHINE ALLEGED SHOWED THAT ESP EXISTS, AND IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT SOME OF HIS ASSOCIATES FALSIFIED DATA. I definitely do NOT trust what Rhine wrote and said about ESP, or what the Rhine Research Center or any of its associates has written or said about ESP.]) ("In 1964, Federico Fellini experimented with LSD under the supervision of Emilio Servadio, his psychoanalyst during the 1954 production of La Strada." ---Wikipedia) ("HALLUCINOGEN---An intoxicant and narcotic, according to the additives used. It produces telepathy, fantastic visions, hallucinations, and other psychic effects. It is precognitive and psychic in its results." ---from page H-3, TABER'S CYCLOPEDIC MEDICAL DICTIONARY by Clarence Wilbur Taber [10th edition, 1965]. [I think the above definition is rather weird...]) ("MORE THAN HUMAN is a sci-fi novel by Theodore Sturgeon...in which a band of exceptional people 'blesh' [that is, blend and mesh] their consciousness to create a kind of super-being. 'I turned everyone on to that book in, like, 1965...This is what we can do; this is what we can be.'" ---Phil Lesh, quoted by Nick Paumgarten, The New Yorker, 11.26. 2012.) I was a big fan of science-fiction novels. More than a few of them mentioned J.B. Rhine and his famous ESP research. (Rhine was said to have been the person who coined the initialism ESP.) I was quite thrilled to have made contact with Rhine, and I am rather certain that I was unconsciously driven to inaccurately interpret my so-called "evidence" in such a way as to make it appear that ESP exists.
