Final Grades and What’s Next
12/23/2018
Hi friends! My final grades have been posted and tbh I’m not thrilled but for my first attempt taking a full time course load and working 30+ hours a week for the first half of the semester, I’m really proud of myself for getting as far as I did.
My final exam grades were actually pretty good for the most part, but my overall grades could have been a lot better, but for as much as I took on this semester, I’m not going to beat myself up too much over it.
GRADES:
Intermediate Algebra (MATH107)
Final Exam Score: 77%
Final Class Grade: C
Introduction to Sociology (SOC101)
Final Exam Score: 86%
Final Class Grade: C
General Psychology (PSY100)
(Just a head’s up this one didn’t go well)
Final Exam Score: 48%
Final Class Grade: D
History of the U.S. Since 1865 (HIST102)
Final Project Overall Score: 96%
Final Class Grade: C
Pharmacology for Allied Health (HIT201)
Final Exam Score: 84%
Final Class Grade: C
So I finished my hardest semester with a C average. Unfortunately the D grade in Psych means that I technically did not pass, but it’s not the end of the world. Overall I think that I should have waited until I was in a better place emotionally and mentally before I took on such a heavy course load, but I’m still really proud of myself for doing it and sticking it out for the entire semester because I can’t tell you how many times I thought about dropping a class to lighten the load. Of course I wish my final grades were better, or at least more representative of my exam grades, but it is what it is. I’m not necessarily proud of the grades but I am proud of myself for getting through it.
So, what’s next?
I mentioned a few posts back that I was going to be applying to a respiratory therapy program. From the information I’ve been given about the program, my GPA is not going to factor into whether I get in or not, so I think that’s why I’m not really too upset about my grades not being higher (that and I genuinely thought I would fail something). The application window doesn’t open up until some time in February, but I’m checking the website regularly to see if there’s a set date yet or not. But if I do get in, the program still doesn’t start until June 2019 so I actually won’t be in school for six months - which has never happened before so I’m afraid that I’ll end up going insane.
Now I could absolutely take some classes next semester since it wouldn’t interfere with the program, but honestly I really need to focus on working and saving money for a while, and that’s a really hard thing to do while juggling school at the same time. I also need some time to focus on me and kinda get to know myself because I’ve never really been defined as anything other than “student” or “employee” (but we don’t need to get overly philosophical).
If I don’t get in, then I’ll be transferring to the community college closer to where I live and continuing with my current degree, I guess. It’s a two year program, so it’s not like I can just try again next semester if I don’t get it this time. But, I’ll be making a separate post talking more in-depth about the program, I’m just not sure if I’m going to do it before or after I can apply.
As for this blog and my studygram, I’ll still be reblogging stuff and probably posting about general organization and study tips, but I think it’s something I’ll have to play by ear in all honesty.
Thanks for sticking with me during this crazy roller coaster of a semester. I hope your exams went great and your final grades were better than mine! Happy holidays! xx

@sweet-s0rr0w, thanks for the tag!  Today is apparently Tuesday(surprise, me!), so I’m going to bore everyone with pseudo-psychoanalytic smut.  Get ready for applied PSY100.
Abstract:  Two masturbation one-shots, both alike in indignity, in fair AO3, where we lay our scene.  Controls:  No fantasy about sexual contact with others. Tight wordcount range.  Equal sensory description. Variable:  Purely physical arousal vs a safe space expression of sexuality. Conclusion:  Physicality gets more immediate attention on AO3.  Headgame smut gets quiet appreciation and private bookmarks.  Different readers like different angles on smut; mental vs physical. Congrats, you’re all my lab rats, and you didn’t know it.  There are other experiments, but we’re not going there today. The Seduction of One Draco Malfoy by a Green Velvet Chair The framework for it is Masters and Johnson stages of arousal, overlaid with specific sensory input in each stage.  It’s very physical, very sensual, and very intentionally lacking in heavy internal monologue. Harry Potter and the Glass Block Shower  The framework is Maslow’s with sensory input overlaid again.  So, this one starts with the mention of Harry literally having physical needs met, and progresses to the point of him just being like “Yeah, jerking off in the shower at parties is fucking self-actualization.” * Fun fact for anyone who bothered to read this:  There’s a 30k WIP in my head that links these two fics.  It involves ancient infidelity curses and speech/touch restrictions.

As always, you’re invited to share whenever you see this, tag or no.  And you can respond at any time, including after Tuesday.  I can’t wait to see what you share!

Hi! I'm going to be a first year at U of T soon and I wanted to ask you a little bit about the school. Was it really as difficult to do well as everyone says it is? What were your favorite classes and what are some of your favorite places to study/hang out on campus? Thanks so much!!!
Hi Anon!! That is SO exciting!!! There is sooo much negative talk about UofT and I don’t want to give you any illusions, but honestly, don’t be too worried. It’s a really tough school, there’s no doubt about it. Professors ask for a lot, the work load is tough and the environment can be incredibly competitive. While it is almost certain you will not be getting the straight A’s you might be used to from high school, as long as you are disciplined and stay on top of your work you will be just fine! University is all about balance and if you are on track with your work AND also making sure to take care of yourself, you will be in a great mindset for making the most out of your years here! The best advice I can give you is to start early on EVERYTHING. Start readings early, start assignments early, start studying early. Trust me you will thank yourself! In terms of favourite classes, in first year I took PSY100 with Prof Dolderman and it was incredible! If you can, take at least one class with Dolderman because he is an amazing professor. In second year I took PSY230 (Personality Psychology) with him as well, and it was honestly a life changing course! It’s tough for me to pick just one or two favourites because all the courses I’ve taken so far have been awesome in their own ways! In terms of study and hangout places I love the Knox college library (Caven Library) as well as Gerstein Library (next to MedSci). I tend to stay away from Robarts because it smells like anxiety and I don’t need that in my life. UofT has so many stunning buildings to study in and I’m sure you’ll find the spot that works for you eventually! I’m so excited for you! First year is a big year and you’re going to have so much fun!! If you have any other questions (or something that I didn’t quite answer) don’t hesitate to ask again! Good luck!

I'm an entering freshman and want to fulfill the Latin Honors requirements while at Smith. Humanities are my strong suit and I'm concerned about the mathematics and analytic philosophy portion as well as the natural sciences. Do you have any course recommendations that might allow for a smoother entrance for those areas of study?
Hi there and welcome to Smith! For math/statistics, the ‘easiest’ courses are MTH 102 (elementary functions) and MTH 107 (statistical thinking). If you scroll down to ‘courses’ on the Math & Stats page, linked here, you can see what the Math department has to say about what might be a good fit for you. Some other first year level course that count for the mathematics and analytic philosophy latin honors distribution are CSC 111 (Intro computer science) and LOG 100 (Intro logic - Valid and Invalid Reasoning: What Follows From What?). For your natural science distribution requirement, I’ve heard a lot of good things about the intro geosciences courses - GEO 101 (Introduction to Earth Processes and History), GEO 102 (Exploring the Geologic Landscape), and GEO 104 (Global Climate Change) are the three being offered in the fall, but there are others offered in different semesters. Also, Intro Psychology (PSY100) counts for a natural science and so do some first year seminars! Hope this helps.
