We believe the picture in your mind when you are imagining a Dalmatian town is that of Sepurine.

Beautiful, quiet, old, noble, stealing breath in front of every house. Solid, stone, steep streets, stone houses, each capturing attention with its particularity, still forming a harmonious, single whole story. It is a story of glitter and wealth that used to be, and laughter that once resounded along these streets.

Population of Sepurine used to be greater than that of Vodice. Today unfortunately, it shares the destiny of all the places on the island.

Prvic, with its two settlements, Sepurine and Prvic Luka, was first mentioned in the 11th century. It was substantially inhabited by people from Srima and Vodice who fled here in fear of Turks. In the 16th century, the island became a fashionable resort for Sibenik nobility, building their villas and summer residences on it.

In Croazia, nell’arcipelago di Šibenik (Sebenico) nei pressi di Vodice, esiste una pittoresca isola che si può visitare in sole due ore: Prvić o Provicchio. L’isola, ricoperta di macchia mediterranea, uliveti e vigneti, nei suoi 2,4 chilometri ospita due paesi in cui vivono poco più di 400 abitanti e un patrimonio storico e culturale di notevole valore. I due centri abitati, Porto Provicchio (Prvić Luka) e Seporine (Šepurine), regalano l’emozione di passeggiare lungo antiche vie di pietra ascoltando il canto dei grilli e il suono delle onde, in un’atmosfera bucolica e lontana dalla vita caotica delle città. Le antiche case in pietra sono costruite con un muro in comune e oggi protette come patrimonio storico. Fermatevi ad ammirarle più volte per scoprire le colonie artistiche e le taverne dove gustare le deliziose specialità dell’isola, tra cui i fichi secchi preparati secondo la ricetta tradizionale e un buon bicchiere di grappa. Dimenticate i lustrini delle discoteche (che potrete comunque facilmente raggiungere prendendo il traghetto per Vodice) e scoprite senza fretta i labirinti di pietra di Prvić accarezzati dalla dolce brezza marina. Pensiamo alla Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, risalente al 1878 con annesso monastero eretto dai frati glagolitici, la seicentesca Chiesa di San Rocco dove ammirare uno stupendo altare barocco in legno decorato e la Parrocchiale di Nostra Signora della Misericordia che custodisce cinque altari barocchi all’interno e una croce paleocristiana sul muro esterno. Cultura, paesi in pietra e mare. Provicchio è infatti anche una splendida meta balneare con tranquilli litorali dove prendere il sole e fare un tuffo. Tra le spiagge, merita una menzione Prvić Šepurine con fondo ghiaioso e acque limpide, una cornice affascinante per tutti gli amanti del mare. Ma non soltanto. L’isola vide l’infanzia del famoso scienziato e intellettuale croato Faust Vrančić che qui sperimentò il paracadute e realizzò molti altri interessanti attrezzi i cui modelli sono oggi ammirabili al Museo Faust Vrančić a Porto Provicchio. A Seporine, invece, spicca la villa padronale che Vrančić fece costruire come sua residenza estiva.
