That brought pause to Valentino, but not the stilling kind— the kind that came with a hammering heart and twitching limbs.

There was no solace.

He turned to face his stolen lover, eyes alight with the kind of fire that warned of danger. His fingers opened, and then closed around the grip of his gun.

Flames.

It was just the two of them, the Overlord and his fallen friend, standing and stranded among the debris of his temper-fueled tantrum.

"... Why not...?" Val growled, little more than a breath.

It was like he wanted Vox to convince him to stop, to calm him down like he used to. But he knew that Vox couldn't. There was nothing that Vox could possibly do or say to fix this.

The damage had been done.

Unable to bury it any more, Valentino spun around and exploded, arms splayed at his sides.

"Why shouldn't I be screaming about what I'm going to do to Alastor? Are you worried he's gonna show up, Vox?" He was yelling, but his anger wasn't directed at Vox. It was the long-burning fuse that had finally reached its mark; Vox was a necessary casualty. "I say, let him! I WANT him to hear me! What difference does it make?! He couldn't hurt us any more if he TRIED!"

Hoo boy.

The series does not hold a candle to Pilot. It's gutted in comparison, characters that were intriguing & entertaining in 31 minutes are incredibly flat in all 8 episodes with little adoring factor. Angel is a disappointing pale shadow of his former self, Alastor feels like a parody of himself, and Charlie just lost all her warmth & spirit that she had in the pilot. She's not goofy, spooky, and willing to throw down for her beliefs anymore, she's just.. nice, and naive. It's.. a let down, but I'm still hanging on bc I've sunk too many years of investment in to not take my scraps.
