PSA: BAD LITTERBOX

i don't usually make posts like this, but this is a truly upsetting topic to me as a lifelong cat owner, so i feel i have a duty to share my knowledge with others.

there is a type of automatic litterbox for cats being sold that is EXTREMELY dangerous and has killed numerous cats through blunt force trauma, suffocation, etc. this litterbox is being sold under different brand names and logos, so i will include the picture of the model and two links to informational videos with more evidence and eloquence than i am able to provide.

please consider not having this type of litterbox in your home for your furry friends. me and my 16 year old tortie, puddy, want the best for all your kitty friends

Well, that's what they would have you believe, that they're deadly. I mean they are and they... aren't. Simon is a giant armored teddy bear and König is a playful Golden Retriever. Your good boys. Your best boys. Your good, best, and chaotic boys.

Well, uh... Ghost will forever call bullshit and protest because he is NOT chaotic. Now that is bullshit because his chaotic nature is more subdued. You can admit that König brings out this part of him more than you do.

Though to be fair, you've gotten in your fair share of shenanigans with König. Ghost swears he rolls his eyes more often than not when it comes to you two.

They also tend to lowkey compete with each other and it's made you laugh more often than not.

You thought you were a worrywart but König and Ghost have you beat. By miles. And König has you both beat by lightyears.

He'll bring you up a lot when he and Ghost are gone. When the three of you are in different places, best believe a conference call will be had. You and König are talking the most and Ghost will interject every so often. And then König and Ghost will talk and sometimes they will... not!bicker like an old married couple.

Their voices (especially the rumble of Simon's) are so soothing to you. You fell asleep on the phone while talking to them once and they got so worried that they were THISCLOSE to sending someone to check on you.

Speaking of being away, König absolutely does not like the fact that you're alone when they're gone. Thinks it makes you susceptible to an attack. Simon disagrees and vouches for you ("Alone doesn't mean weak. You'll be fine.") but in pure König fashion, he surprises you and Simon with the cutest Doberman puppy ("To keep you company and protect you when we're gone, Schatz."). A Doberman puppy who, to date, has no name because you three can't agree to one. König calls her Königin (Queen), Ghost calls her Pup, and you call her Lola.

Speaking of pet names, you're either Schatz or Schatzi to König and Baby or Love to Simon. They're usually handsome or gorgeous to you. You're still working on giving them specific pet names but those two will suffice for now. It's cute watching König glow whenever you call him that.

The dog is more company than she is protection because all she lives for is table food, scritches, and 'stalking' Ghost and/or König. The latter absolutely loves to roughhouse with her, too. She made Ghost her personal couch/bed/thing. Yeah...

You also encourage your four-legged baby to smile, too, and when she first did it in front of Ghost he was almost scared shitless ("What the fu—?").

Ghost is also a little dismayed and turned on that König can pick him up and carry him like a sack of potatoes. Ghost.exe stopped working the first time it happened. When YOU witnessed it for the first time, you, uh... well... let's just say you were deliciously sore the next day. (͠≖ ͜ʖ͠≖)

The same thing usually happens when you watch them spar and it gets a little heated (König gets that little glint of determination in his eyes and like fuck will Simon admit that it gets a little personal when he loses). Goddamn, just look at those physiques.

In the bed: You had to upsize because your lovers are fucking gigantic. König prefers to be rather confined when he sleeps so he's always in the middle. Ghost likes to sleep facing the door and you and the furbaby are... everywhere in the bed. She also gives no fucks and will plop down on the closet body.

Simon is also the resident pillow princess. Yeah, his pillows need to be extra fluffy and he keeps an abundance of them on the bed. So fucking what. You tease him about it endlessly but he couldn't give a shit. Funnily enough, König almost got supplexed once because he called Simon that in public.

Speaking of being in public, they're your protectors when you're out and about. Either they're walking in front of you if there are too many people or they're by your side. You do prefer for them to walk in front of you for... reasons. That involves the view. (͠≖ ͜ʖ͠≖)

And by the way, they can get a little jealous. They will feel some type of way if your attention is on something or rather, someone else. You are theirs and they have no problem letting people know that.

Oh yeah and König, fuck you. Ghost calls bullshit. Your mask does not look better than his.

You and Phillip decided it was time to expand your family... and Bubba was not pleased. Initially.

You see, Bubba was used to being the only furbaby 'round those parts, used to the pets, treats, scritches, and lecturing from Daddy, so it was no surprise to y'all that he wouldn't take to your newest edition right away.

Meet Princess Penny, your Brindle-colored English bulldog puppy. She was the runt of her litter but what she lacked in size she more than made up for in personality and you and Phillip fell in love with her just as quickly as you did with Bubba.

"Now, son, this here is your little sister, Penny," Graves said as he held little Penny in his arms close enough for Bubba to see and sniff her before he turned to look at you as if to confirm that this was, in fact, real, "you're a big brother now, buddy!" The first couple of weeks were rough. At least they were for Bubba. HIS treats you were giving to Penny. Graves was a little exasperated with his son but knew it would take some getting used to.

You don't know when things started to change but they did. It could've been when Penny plopped on Graves' head while he was sleeping, mid-snore in fact, and woke him up or when she started giving Phillip just as much hell as his oldest did but whatever it was, Bubba started coming out of his shell. Started playing with Penny some more, being the protective older sibling. She'd lick and groom Bubba and he'd allow it while peacefully napping. You noticed that he'd do the same. Getting scritches was still a competition between the two, though.

Phillip was away when he heard the ping of his phone. He opened your text to see a picture of Bubba and Penny, curled up together and fast asleep in Bubba's doggie bed. He chuckled.

Undertale Papyrus - Papyrus is actually a little overwhelmed by all the dogs around him. He doesn't know who he hasn't pet yet and it's stressing him out knowing one dog might feel less loved than the other ones. He doesn't care about what you think right now, he's too focused on trying to understand why terrible people would abandon such sweet babies. By the end of the day, he's asking you to adopt one.

Underswap Sans - He swears he did nothing, stop looking at him like that! He didn't even know that guinea pigs, which are neither from guinea or pigs, were a thing! He's lying in the enclosure, entirely covered with guinea pigs and he's not regretting anything. They're all squishy!

Underswap Papyrus - If I were you, I wouldn't be jealous about that. You should worry about how the hell you're going to convince your giant golden retriever of a boyfriend to go home without his 150 new dog babies. Honey never wants to leave again. That's his people. What do you mean he can't take all of them home? You can't let them sleep in this horrible place in the dark! That's abuse! What is they cry and no one hears them? D: He's devastated when you drag him out of there, begging you to at least take one home or he could never forgive himself lol. He's going to guilt trip you for weeks to get his fourth dog and he's not going to change his mind so good luck with that.

Underfell Sans - He's a bit uncomfortable, a lot of parrots on his arms and on his head. He doesn't understand why you're mad, he's literally terrified to move right now. Please take them back? Red is not exactly an animal person, not with birds at least, and he's a little confused right now. He's not sure how to escape this situation.

Underfell Papyrus - What? You're jealous? Good! He's a volunteer in a rescue as well and he told you he had a nice touch with the cats. Now you can see how true this is because he is clearly the best in all he does. Cry like a loser while he pets all the cats like an epic villain. Don't you know cats prefer scary people because they are better at protecting them from predators? You swear he just invented that. You're so mad.

Horrortale Sans - Well, you saw how the animals are all attracted to him in the farm so it's not a bit surprise all the dogs and cats are dying to come to see him. Even the most fearful dogs are all crawling on his lap to get affection. He just sits in the dog playroom while you work and have fun with the little furbabies. You wish you could do the same.

Horrortale Papyrus - He acts smug and silly because he likes to tease you, but you can see he's actually really happy about that. He didn't have that much love in a long time and even if it's little rabbits and not humans or monsters, he's happy. He even sits on the floor to stay with them and it's quite a while now, to the point you're a bit concerned about his back. But he's too happy to disturb him for now. He can have that moment.

Swapfell Sans - You can't believe it honestly. Chinchillas only choose one special person and somehow it's Nox. You wanted to be their special person! That's so unfair, you're trying to socialize them for weeks! Nox acts like he doesn't care and all but you surprise him by searching the internet to see what he needs to buy to take care of chinchillas. He's not asking you by the way. He's taking them home.

Swapfell Papyrus - You stop watching him for two minutes and then he comes in the room holding a huge raccoon in his hands and asks you to adopt him. You're so confused. There's literally no raccoon in your shelter??? Where the hell did it come from??? Rus is very proud of himself though. And he's definitely getting home with that thing, either you say yes or no. He's ready to squeeze it in his ribcage.

Fellswap Gold Sans - Wine is not happy. He has cat hair everywhere on his handmade suit and he's slowly dying inside. He hates cats. He hates all animals really, why the hell are they clinging to him like that? He's distressed and keeps staring at his S/O intensely to have some help. Unfortunately, you're way too amused to come and save him. It's rare to see Wine lose his mind.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - You let him have his fun. Coffee is crying right now, buried under a pile of big dogs. He's a bit overwhelmed and can't control his feelings anymore. All you can see are his two arms, trying to hug as many dogs as he can. He's never getting out of the pile. It's the best day of his life.

A couple days went by since that night and honestly, Lucifer wasn't any better. He still could not accept the idea that he doesn't deserve to suffer for what's about to happen to this baby or for what Satan had gone through.

It had been two weeks and three days of living with Diavolo when things took a major turn.

Lucifer was essentially spending all of his days with Cerberus now. Originally, Barbatos did not want the large dog in the main living spaces, both for cleanliness reasons and for protecting the furniture. However, Lucifer had gotten so depressed that Diavolo asked the butler to let the dog stay with them wherever the two men were and the butler agreed, though unhappily.

During these days, Cerberus broke three couches and seven chairs. It wasn't his fault though! When it comes to Lucifer, this giant dog thinks he's more of a lap dog than anything, a closer kin to a chihuahua than his true three-headed breed.

Diavolo assured the pride demon that it was fine and furniture can easily be replaced, but the poor butler became increasingly stressed each time.

On this day however, the dog was acting strange. The three-headed furbaby kept whining to Lucifer and growling whenever the two other men would try to approach his master. This was odd because the dog was usually pretty tolerant towards Dia and Barb, but on this day, he was strangely high alert.

That's when it happened.

Nothing Lucifer said to Cerberus comforted the dog and it made the pregnant man increasingly worried. The dog spent the day crying and snuggling with the pride demon, occasionally nuzzling his master's belly with one of his heads.

Diavolo was on the other side of the room, discussing work with the butler. Barbatos had just informed him that the due date for certain work just got pushed up and two men were trying to figure out if it was better to cancel that project all together or to do a rush job in the next few days.

Suddenly, Lucifer was on the ground, screaming in agony as his child tried to rip himself out of his father.

The two men ran over to Lucifer, but was blocked by Cerberus. The poor dog didn't understand what was going on, just that his master was hurting and didn't want anyone to make it worse for him.

Barb used a spell that cajoled the canine to sleep and gave Dia a chance to run to his boyfriend. In his agony, the pride demon had forgotten the potion around his neck so Dia popped off it's lid and forced his pained love to drink the foul-looking liquid.

Suddenly, the pain in his abdomen diminished, but his vision went hazy and each heartbeat felt like an earthquake inside his chest.

Diavolo's voice sounded so far away, like he was screaming to him from miles away, but he heard some of what his boyfriend said: Don't worry; I'll handle it from here.

And then he passed out.

The poor man woke up hours later in bed. His torso ached, though not nearly as bad as it did when he had Satan.

Mind still foggy, he ran a hand over his belly just to discover--its empty? Where is he? Where's his son??

The man shot up into a sitting position--and instantly regretted.

He cried out in pain and in an instant, Diavolo was at his side and easing him back down.

"Easy, my Light." Dia told his boyfriend. "You haven't been out of surgery that long. Your stitches are still fresh--"

"Where is he? Our son; is he okay?"

The prince pursed his lips.

"Love, please." He pleaded. "Is our son okay?"

"Our child is fine." Dia took his hand and squeezed it. "They are alive and healthy."

Luce's eyes darkened.

"He...inherited it all, didn't he?"

"My Light--"

"I failed a second son, did I?" The pride demon covered his face with his free hand.

"...Its not a son." The prince said softly.

Lucifer lowered his hand.

"I-what?" He stared at his boyfriend in shock. "These pregnancies always--"

"Usually." Dia corrected him. "Or rather, the gender of the child nearly always matches the birthing parent with this type of pregnancy. However..."

The prince sat at the edge of the bed and stroked his boyfriend's hand.

Twister is a domestic shorthair (puspin) residing in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte. He has been in our care for five (5) years after picking him up from the streets and is our eldest male furbaby. He has been with us through many ups and downs and has witnessed our growth over the years. Ever since his first year with us, he has been riddled with all sorts of ailments, both minor and life-threatening ones. But we have managed to give him proper care through all of them. I'd like to point out that even if the "nanny dog" story about how they were bred to tend children and known as nannies in the past is true, people also used to think making your cigarettes radioactive would boost their "health benefits" or that giving your kids formaldehyde to make them sleepy was a good idea. So, you know. Maybe those people were just wrong & it's finally time to have an intelligent discussion about the fact that labeling any animal "harmless" opens you up to tragedy. No, that doesn't mean it's intelligent or useful to label them "bad," either.

Again, I don't think they should be made illegal or extinct. I don't think they're "evil" or "malicious." They're animals. They're neither good nor bad. They're just predators, and their prey drive has been enhanced by hundreds of years of breeding, as has their gameness-- their willingness to engage in conflict with another animal, and the instinct to continue fighting when another animal might back down. This is also true of other large, powerful breeds. I don't think your average pet owner is prepared for or should, ethically, be owning a malinois or cane corso, either. That doesn't mean I want those dogs to be made illegal or driven to extinction.

I would object to people labeling guardian dogs as angel furbabies and nanny-dogs, too, for example, or decrying victims harmed or killed by them as having "provoked" the dog. They didn't need to; the possibility was always there. There's a reason specific breeds are generally preferred for specific work: specific breeds have specific instincts and drives. They're not interchangeable, it's not "just another coat of paint." They are not all fundamentally the same. They do not all thrive in the same environments, they do not all have the same instincts, and they are not all safe under the same circumstances.

We don't deny that some dogs are more liable to have soft palette mouths, or engage in pointing, or herd people and animals, or enjoy water due to breed; so why should we obfuscate the potential risk factors of a breed?

I don't care what you call your large supermuscular terrier of choice- staffy, pibble, whatever. Love them, keep them, defend them: just don't lie to me and tell me they're "harmless", and don't tell victims of dog attack that they deserved it somehow. They have a strong prey drive, they are large and powerful enough to kill a human, they are unlikely to stop attacking if they happen to decide to, and anyone who owns one needs to be prepared for that possibility, especially if an individual dog has shown danger signs before.

If your dog has threatened, snapped at, or (god forbid) attacked something or someone else, you at minimum need to be using a muzzle when they go out, especially if they are a large and powerful breed. Muzzles aren't any more "cruel" than condoms are (no matter what your partner/shelter says). Use protection, for your sake and others'.

Last: some individual dogs are simply not safe at all, and unfortunately should be euthanized. Sending individual dogs known to be aggressive and dangerous out into the community over and over again because you happen to like their breed only worsens the issue, especially if you lie to prospective owners about their bite history or known risk factors.

Edited addendum: I should acknowledge there IS rabid, often racist hate for these dogs. There is. It's terrible. It's hideous. You will find people who act like these dogs are the devil on earth, put here just to hurt people. It's absolutely vile, and I hate it. By all means, PLEASE defend the breed from these monsters. Just don't do it by lying. You can love the breed for what it is: magnificent, powerful, clever, tenacious, often silly or loving. They're just not right for every home. They are predators capable of hurting someone, they do have a prey drive and can experience predatory drift, and any attack or threat towards any person or animal should be taken extremely seriously and never dismissed, because if a large dog like a pbt does attack something, the potential for serious harm is severe.
