Ha ha he's not much of a footballer, is he? Actually, I chose this name back in 2019 (i can't even remember what it was before?) when Ole Solskjaer (and Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna) were firmly at the wheel at Man Utd, and Dan James was one of the three signings for United during that summer. I didn't even know about the whole saga surrounding his planned and failed transfer to Leeds in the previous transfer window - I just saw him and thought immediately "Yes, I need to protect this precious bean!"

I used to watch United (and wish them well) when Solskjaer was the manager, and I have been (hate)watching and following them ever since (mostly because the Czech and Slovak fanbases are ripe and active and they create a lot of content and even have their own podcast, so it's easy to follow the United shenanigans even when you're not really watching the matches). I still occasionally watch them, but I have to say I dislike most of their players now lmao.

Anyway, Dan James actually scored on his debut and it was Intense and Emotional because his Dad died just a few weeks before Dan's transfer to United, so everyone was just so happy for him! It was one of those moments that feel scripted, and they are just Right and make you Love The Game. Plus, he had a sweet lovely bromance with Scott McTominay, my heart swells with shipping love when I think back to those days!

Anyway, I sometimes thought about changing the name to something else (like, uhhh, protect-unai-emery?) but I just like the fact that Dan James stays here (and in my heart), even when he's long gone from United and I haven't seen him play in ages!)
