Distant Relatives (Zawil Arham)If there are no Quranic or residuary heirs, distant relatives such as maternal uncles or great-grandchildren inherit.

How Wills Work in Muslim Law

Muslims can make a will (Wasiyat) to bequeath one-third of their estate, but the rest must go to the legal heirs. A will can be given to anyone, including non-family members, but only with the consent of all legal heirs.

Differences Between Sunni and Shia Inheritance Laws

While both Sunni and Shia inheritance laws are based on the Quran, they differ in how property is passed down. Sunni law often focuses more on male heirs, while Shia law treats maternal and paternal relatives equally.

PROPERTY DISTRIBUTION LAW IN INDIA

The Indian Successful Act, 1925 mainly deals with the distribution of the property of a person after death in India. Under the Indian Succession Act, the distribution of the property after death is divided mainly into two parts, intestate succession, and testamentary succession. 

TESTAMENTARY SUCCESSION – PASSING AWAY WITH WILL

The property distribution is done through the creation of Will as per the wish of the deceased. Hence, any person who wishes to pass on property not as per the laws of inheritance applicable to him/her can do so by creating a Will. Succession as per the Will or any other testamentary document is testamentary succession. 

INTESTATE SUCCESSION – PASSING AWAY WITHOUT WILL

If a person passes away without a Will is intestate succession. In such cases, the property distribution is done as per the inheritance law applicable to the deceased person.

I think, legally, if a studio/game developer/publisher/whatever has the rights to an IP, but they go for five or more years without releasing any projects related to that IP, the rights to the property should return to the person who originally pitched or wrote it and they can repitch it somewhere else or continue it on their own as they see fit, or just keep the rights and know that nobody can butcher the property.

Obviously, companies should keep the rights to the projects they create while the IP is theirs and any characters or concepts that they introduced that was not the original creators idea should belong to their individual versions, but I think if more creators had the option to take their beloved brain child and walk if a studio decides they actually don't want to do anything with the IP, they should be more than capable of doing so.

This should also apply to cancelations without any plans for new projects AND media being removed from streaming and viewing should automatically return to the original creator.
