i'm not aro but i find it so annoying whenever i see a well-written, tight-knit friendship & people immediately jump to "they're dating/poly/qpr" like NO. they are FRIENDS. are we familiar with that concept? and it's getting to the point where i am genuinely afraid to write complex friendships because i don't want people to be like "oh this relationship is Too Meaningful to just be platonic" like no??? it's meaningful because it's platonic. ugh

You know what i just noticed. Adaine, like Riz, has never shown interest in romantic or sexual relationships, but she didn't get that same romeänce partnair journey, because she also has shown no shame or fear about that fact of herself. Even when she met the vision of herself centuries older, she didn't ask where your partner or lover or spouse, She asked, "Where are your friends?"

And i just think that's really cool that fantasy high has a depiction of someone grappling with their internalized ace phobia alongside someone who at least seems to have already accepted their identity. (I think its especially interesting how that may relate to them being a male goblin and a female elf, respectively)

The Bad kids tend to walk around auegfort a tight and peculiar little bundle. Fabien and Gorgug are usually in the front, with Riz and Kristen somewhere in the middle, and Adaine and Fig in the back. This arrangement comes off as a bit strange to a casual onlooker, why are the tall boys in the front, blocking the vision of the shorter kids in the back, why is Riz always in the middle, nearly entirely blocked out of sight by the bodies of his party members? Why is Adaine always positioned in the back of the group, but never too far away from another member? A more observant member of the auegfort student body will notice that they are nearly always in a position that prepares them for attack, with heavy hitters and damage absorbers in the front, major spellcasters in the back and middle, and rouge in a place where he can easily hide behind a party member for sneak attack. They dont seem to notice this behavior at all however, arranging themselves in a defensive style regardless of situation or context. Battle ready almost entirely unconsciously, grouping up to protect one another without thinking. As instinctually as the bad kids walk and speak and breathe, they prepare to be attacked.

Bill Seacaster is literally Gomez Addams and you cannot change my mind. There's this amazing quote I saw once about Gomez Adams (that haunts me everyday) that what makes him great isnt just how much he is in love with his life (which is a lot) but that he's in love with every aspect of his life he is in love with life (and death) and he loves it all unabashedly Bill Seacaster is that as well! He loves with everything he has and is so unabashedly unafraid to show it. He loves his wife, he calls his son my darling boy every time he interacts with him (when "manly" men like Bill Seacaster might have balked at Fabian just even calling them papa in that way of his) Bill Seacaster openly loves his son and he wants the world to know it and be sure of it. He loves his son's friends he would literally and has literally gone to war for them, stayed up all night making sure that if they were going out getting in fights they knew how to do it properly. He loves his son's parents he answers Fig's call to help save Pok Gugack a man he doesnt even know simply because Fig and Riz asked. He cuts Fig in on her share of the pillaging. He always stops and makes sure to explain anything they might not know. Fig asks for help on her home work and he immediately rips of the skin of his crew's back. He offers them gold tattoos. He compliments Adaine's hat. He is proud of these kids and he wants the world to know it. He is proud of his kid and he would write it into the dna of the fucking universe if he could. Fabian could never amount to anything and he would still be Bill Seacaster's greatest pride and it wouldn't even be close. Bill Seacaster loves being a pirate he loves hell he wants to fight the devil himself he is maybe a bigger problem dead than he was alive and that is saying a whole fucking lot. He loves adventure, he loves choas he loves money even tho he never really does anything with it. He loves his ship he loves his crew (in his own way and definitely not as individuals) he loves the man that is currently fucking his wife simply because he makes her happy, he loves his maid, he loves his son's Motorcycle Bill seacaster loves and loves and loves and the well never runs dry. He loves like he breathes and how is than not the most gomez Addams shit you've ever seen.

I think one of the best things you can do in a fandom environment where shared fanon can get pretty aggressive is just to be weird and unique. Not to say that all shared fanon is bad! It isn't, there's some really cool stuff as well, but there's also the most out of character stuff you ever saw that everyone then insists is canon, and these days, I often think that people are afraid to contradict this fanon, but you can! Breaking popular fanon is not illegal. Fic and fandom are a place where you're supposed to get deeply into what YOU are into, and it's a lot more fun to explore and worldbuild and write what you want to write whether it goes along with what's super popular or not. And that will bring other, similar-minded freaks (affectionate) out of the woodwork to you. Then you and your fellow freaks can have your own smaller, shared lore, which is, in my experience, a lot more fun. Writing what I want to write fic wise has brought me a lot of friends in my time. It can be nerve-wracking to go against the grain, sure, but ultimately rewarding. Sometimes lately it seems like people join a fandom and are handed a pamphlet of what they're supposed to think about their character of interest, and who they're supposed to ship them with, and that's that. But that's not what fandom is! Be weird about it! Write and draw what compels YOU. Anyway, this is my fandom medium-old take of the day.

I love 'hero living long enough to become the villain', but oughhhh, 'villain living long enough to become the hero' is life altering. Also not just ending in some goddamn sacrifice. They've gotta legit LIVE with those actions. And holy fuck, if they end up caring for someone they previously traumatized and now have to bear being the thing that haunts their nightmares for years? OH, THE ANGST, TAKE ME NOW!!!

I think I get a little sad when people try to make Adaine and Aelwyn's relationship the same as most older and younger sister with abusive parents in media. Because it isn't. We don't have the typical "oldest daughter who tried to shield the youngest from abuse". To properly understand them we have to understand that Aelwyn was not only a golden child, but participated in Adaine's abuse. She mocked her the same as their parents, which is why when she tried to be sincere for a moment on the first day, Adaine didn't believe or trust her. She tried to kill Adaine in Freshman Year. She set the backup in her mind in a place she knew only Adaine would find because she trusted her to find it, but she never told Adaine out loud that she was anything other than what their parents said she was, and that's important! It's important that she never showed Adaine any actual affection despite clearly knowing how strong she actually was! She would never have changed if not for the fact that their parents' abuse turned on her when they could no longer touch Adaine after abandoning her.

And all of that is important because if you erase that, you erase who both of them are. Aelwyn's first instinct is always to protect herself and what she considers hers. It wasn't until Junior Year that Aelwyn considered Adaine hers. She's a good sister NOW. She's trying to show love to other people NOW. She openly admits that she struggles to put love into anything but her cats. Adaine choosing to forgive and love her shows Adaine's personal strength and compassion. It was not because Aelwyn was anything close to a good sister to her growing up. To quote the show itself, "Despite the fact that you have not earned, I do love you,"

I think something the fandom should play more into is that Riz Gukgak is a CRIER. he is almost CONSTANTLY sobbing every time he is overwhelmed with emotions and if its not sobbing its throwing up.
