Goulcy Week // Wildcard: Soulmates [Teaser]
â
This thing was supposed to be far shorter but itâs turning into âša thingâš, that is still trucking along but also deeply unfinished. Figured Iâd drop a teaser.
â
The front of the Vault-Tec blue pamphlet featured a picture of a happily smiling family. They sat arranged on a couch with mom and dad on one side, daughter and son between them. All clad in their perfectly pressed Vault suits. It was a picturesque image of a perfect American Vault family. In the lower right corner of the pamphlet was a graphic of Vault Boy, flashing his signature smile, and offering a big thumbs up as if in approval. The curving yellow font at the top of the pamphlet read:
GET YOUR INHIBITOR TODAY!
Opening the pamphlet, on the left side of the fold were two whole images that depicted the process of the Soulmate Inhibitor installation. One image showed a doctor and their patient. The doctor had a device that looked terribly similar to a plastic, rudimentary gun pressed to the base of their patientâs skull. The next photo was patient and doctor, standing shoulder-to-shoulder, smiling wide with another thumbs up for the camera. On the right side of the fold there was a listing of reasons why the Inhibitor was a necessity to any Vault residentâs life. It was presented in a question-answer format.
What sort of quality of life can a Vault Resident achieve if they know their soulmate exists outside of the Vault?
It listed statistics that featured elevated risks of depression, and anxiety. It reminded the reader of the Vaultâs primary objectives: reclamation day, repopulation.
What if someone from outside the Vault tries to break into the Vault to pursue their soulmate?
More statistics, these featuring the horrors of extreme radiation exposure. Mentions of dead crops, dead people. Another reminder to the reader that the Vaultâs objective is to one day repopulate and rebuild the earth from the ashes left behind.
How will it affect the Vaultâs initiative if someone were to âhold outâ for a soulmate that they may never find?
Even more statistics, these regarding declining reproduction rates and a total loss of population. There is a brief mention of the Vaultâs triennial trade agreement with Vault 32, where another pamphlet was referenced.
The pamphlet concluded with more yellow font:
Get your Inhibitor today!
For the good of the Vault, for the good of our Future!
Lucy MacLean knew the pamphlet forwards and backwards, word for word. It would be easy for someone to assume that, as the Overseerâs daughter, she knew the material so she could outwardly support all of the vaultâs initiatives. It would also be easy to assume that, as a member of the teaching staff, she knew the material because she reviewed it on a quarterly basis for the kids getting ready to get their own inhibitor chips installed. The reality of the situation was far more personal, and significantly more selfish. Lucyâs was the first and, so far, only documented case in the vaultâs history where an inhibitor installation had any adverse effects.
Before the procedure, Betty had taken her hand, looked her straight in the eye and said, âItâs just a moment of pain in exchange for a lifetime of happiness.â
Her dad stood beside Betty, all reassuring smiles as he said, âYou can do that, canât you Luc?â
It wasnât just a moment of pain. It lasted days. Pain so consuming that it hurt to cry. Pain so profound that it made her sick. It ebbed after a handful of days, and then it went away all together. In the aftermath she read the pamphlet persistently. She chased down supplementary reading material. There was no mention about potential side effects; no indication as to the cause. It left young Lucy to speculate.
Statistically speaking, many people wouldnât have a soulmate. Period. That was a byproduct of bombs eviscerating the majority of the worldâs population. For the ones that were alive on the surface in the years after, there was a documented propensity for extreme violence, a lack of sufficient resources, and an increased probability for severe radiation poisoning. Yet Lucy still couldnât help but wonder if she was one of the very few who was destined to find her soulmate.
Speculation turned out to be a very slippery slope into fantasizing. Lucy could be very pragmatic, but to her core she was a hopeful optimist. Lucy fantasized. She yearned, she dreamed, she pined, and she pondered.
And as soon as she was old enough, she eagerly applied for the Vaultâs Triennial Trade.
Lucy MacLean was going to find her soulmate.

i fell in love with jin guangyao when he threw his hands up (metaphorically) at nie mingjue during the stair debacle and went "wow you really Cannot understand me. fine. i tried. skill issue"!! i thought it was so cool how neatly he dual-wielded justified terror, justified snark, and a sincere attempt at making himself understood. i guess that's triple-wielding, actually, but you get it
youâre right, i do get it, i get it so much. đ€đ€đ€ that moment turned me into the unhinged jgy stan i am today.
Jin GuangYao sighed, âBrother, it really was my fatherâs orders. I couldnât refuse. Now, if you want me to take care of Xue Yang, what would I say to him?â
Nie MingJue, âThereâs no need for explanations. Come back to me with Xue Yangâs head in your hand.â
Jin GuangYao still wanted to speak, but Nie MingJue had already lost all patience, âMeng Yao, donât speak such pretentious words in front of me. Your whole thing stopped working on me since a long time ago!â
Within a second, a few degrees of unease flashed over Jin GuangYaoâs face, as though someone with an unmentionable illness was suddenly exposed in the public. There was nowhere for him to hide.
He spoke, âMy whole thing? Which whole thing? Brother, youâve always yelled at me for calculating people and being too dishonorable. You say that youâre a proud, righteous person, that you arenât afraid of anything, that propen men shouldnât need to play with schemes. Thatâs fine. Your background is noble and your cultivation is high. But what about me? Am I the same as you? First, my cultivation isnât as firm as yours. Ever since I was born, has anyone taught me? And second, I have no prominent background. Do you think that Iâm in a steady position, here at the LanlingJin Sect? Do you think that I can rise into power the moment Jin ZiXuan dies? Jin GuangShan would rather bring another illegitimate child back than want me to succeed him! You think that I should be afraid of nothing? Well Iâm afraid of everything, even other people! He whose stomach is full believes not him who is starving.â
EXR translation, pg 498 & 499
then comes the part of the text where imo jgy is 100% aware of the fact that nmj is going to hear his words and choose the worst faith interpretation of them. this feels like one last moment to give nmj a chance to prove him wrong about what he knows inevitably is about to happen, and it has been quoted and discussed so many times that i donât think i need to do so again. but i will add this moment too, because i donât think jgy gets enough credit for the brutal, savage humour in this line, after he gets kicked down the stairs:
Jin GuangYao only landed after rolling down more than fifty steps. He didnât even stay on the ground for long before crawling up. With a wave of his hand, he sent away the servants and disciples who surrounded him. Dusting off his robes, he slowly raised his head to look at Nie MingJue. His eyes were quite calm, almost indifferent. Just as Nie MingJue unsheathed his saber, Lan XiChen happened to leave the palace to see what was going on, concerned after having waited for long. Seeing the situation before him, he unsheathed Shuoyue as well, âWhat happened, this time?â
Jin GuangYao, âNothing. Brother, thank you for your advice.â
EXR translation, pg 500
rating: siiiiiiiiick
#asks answered#mdzs meta#jin guangyao#jgy positivity#also just in case it isnât clear#the bolded line is HILARIOUS imo because nmj is specifically meant to be disciplining and guiding jgy towards a âbetter pathâ#in their sworn brotherhood#and so for him to do something so egregiously violent and in clear violation of the terms of their oath#and for jgy to dryly thank him for the diligent tutelage#is THE clearest ringing indictment of the futility of their arrangement#a savage burn tbh

Catalyst 'breathes' new life into acrylonitrile production
A team of engineers is reimagining one of the essential processes in modern manufacturing. Their goal? To transform how a chemical called acrylonitrile (ACN) is madeânot by building world-scale manufacturing sites, but by using smaller-scale, modular reactors that can work if they let the catalyst, in a sense, "breathe." Their article, titled "Propene Ammoxidation over an Industrial Bismuth Molybdate-Based Catalyst Using Forced Dynamic Operation," is published in Applied Catalysis A: General. ACN is everywhere, from carbon fibers in sports equipment to acrylics in car parts and textiles. Traditionally, producing it requires a continuous, energy-intensive process. But now, researchers at the University of Virginia and the University of Houston have shown that by pausing to "inhale" fresh oxygen, a chemical catalyst can produce ACN more efficiently. This discovery could open the door to smaller, versatile production facilities that adapt to fluctuating needs.

Genghis Khan (Rider) Servant Concept
Class:Rider
Parameters Strength B Endurance A Agility C+ Magical Power C Luck A
Born Temujin, the man who would come be known as one of the greatest conquerors in all of history. He is perceived many as a great villian and butcher but to others a national hero and great leader. Among servants Genghis Khan stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the most powerful and famous heroic spirits such as Iskandar, Cu Chulainn, and Artoria Pendragon. He qualifies for many classes such as Archer, Lancer and Saber but Rider is by far his best class. In terms of fame, notoriety, and accomplishments he is without a doubt a top tier servant. Personality wise he is proud, charismatic, and larger than life. He considers himself chosen by heaven and all above to unite all nations under one banner. He is eager to experience new things and finds value in others who have skills, beliefs, customs and so on that are not his own. A man who sees only merit and character, looking beyond ones station, and seeing them for their core self. 'A wise beggar with a good heart is worth more than a king placed upon his seat through lineage alone'. Whoever is Genghis Khan's master will find a stalwart and strong servant but he will not follow there orders and may even kill them outright if he does not find them of respectable character or beliefs. He is prone to acting on his own but may take his masters council should they earn his respect.
Skills
Riding A-Genghis Khan is an expert in all vehicles and mounts, especially horses. He even has the potential to ride some phantasmal species and divine beasts.
Magic Resistance D-Can cancel out low level or single incantation spells. As well as protect from low level mental effects
Divinity C-Among the mongol people, Genghis Khan has been deified and associated with an equestrian war god known as SĂŒlde Tngri. This deification represents Genghis Khan's martial character and the more mythical side of himself rather than the historical.
Khan Of Khans A+-A skill that represents Genghis's status as the greatest to hold the title of Khan. It is a composite skill that grants him aa high level Charisma , Tactics , and Golden Rule
Mongolian Martial Arts B-A skill that represents his expertise in the traditional martial arts and skills of his people. Such as horse archery, falconry, and Bokh also known as Mongolian wrestling, and so on. HIs skill in wrestling in particular makes him a dangerous opponent even whent totally unarmed.
Blessing Of Tengri A-It was said in the text 'Secret History Of The Mongols' that a spirit known as Zarin Tengri sent a vision from the great sky god Tengri to the Khorchin mongols, of a cow mooing toward the moon and the words 'Heaven And Earth have agreed to make Tenmujin lord of the nation'. This prophetic blessing is what allowed Genghis Khan to unite his people. It is a skill that acts similar to high ranked Protection Of The Faith and can occasionally grant prophetic dreams similar to the Revelation skill.
Noble Phantasms
Khans Grand Conquest: All Under Heaven is Mine A+ -A crystallization of Genghis Khan's ability to conquer and create the largest contiguous empire in all of history. The noble phantasm allows Genghis Khan to claim areas as his territory. The condition being that he must either win over a majority of the population in that designated area or defeat a figure of authority within that chosen area. Such as using his raw charisma to draw an entire bar to him and want to follow him, allowing him to claim the bar and the nearby area or making the mayor of a town submit to him thus claiming the town itself. Once Genghis Khan has claimed a territory as his own he has a certain level of Authority within that territory, raising his parameters slightly and allowing him to better engage any enemy that enters his territory. This skill also allows him to temporarily use the skills and even mana of others within his territory, representing the khan's propensity to incorporate other cultures, and beliefs into his kingdom rather than quashing them.
Twin White Horses: Divine Steeds Of The Khan A-The twin horses of Genghis Khan who were immortalized in a folktale. They are brothers, and are the Khan's constant companions. The older horse is white with a golden mane while the the younger is the inverse. They are similarly deified along with Genghis Khan and as such are divine beasts, representing the horse as a symbol of mongol culture. The horse and its rider are one, and it is said that the spirit or the soul is called a 'wind horse'. This association with the spirit allows the horses to ride past the veil and into the afterlife temporarily before appearing back in physical space. Though this power is extremely mana intensive. This association with the spirit world also grants them advantages against ghosts and other spiritual beings but not servants. Genghis Khan usually rides one or the other horse but they can also be summoned at the same time to pull Genghis Khan's chariot.
Khan's Tumen: Army Of The Conqueror B+-Genghis Khan had a very specific ordering of troops. He believed that a massive singular army was ineffective. And that multiple smaller armies was more efficient. This noble phantasm is a crystallization of that philosophy and allows Gengis Khan to summon a entourage of his elite Calvary up to 1000 strong. Each one of them is a minor heroic spirit in there own right and have average parameters of C. Though it is not an army as grand as Iskandar's or similar noble phantasms it has quality over quantity. However, summoning such a massive force of minor heroic spirits requires immense amounts of mana. So it is often employed sparingly.

semi-important stuff & methodology
read if you want
or don't
also a cool list of everything found so far...
forenote:
unfortunately, not all posts can produce a hydrocarbon upon analysis. this can be for many reasons. the most frequent, however, is an odd number of hydrogen (h) atomsÂč, so if your post/ask doesn't get a response, this may be why.
i also try to avoid longer posts as there are so many combinations possible that many are unstable or just not documented.
others may have multiple possible structures. i try to minimise complexity (again, for readability), so multiple structures will only be shown for posts containing 6 or fewer carbon atoms.
this is also where i stop caring about set completion (see list at end).
methodology:
first, a post is stripped of all letters other than 'c' and 'h', leaving punctuation and emojis for clarity.
secondly, points in the post that must remain constant are located (ie, a CH3 group at the start/end), then i work forwards/backwards from there.
as far as i am concerned, any adjacent hydrogens are fair game (ie, ethene could be expressed as hchhch, chhhhc, hhcchh... but not cchhhh), so they are matched up with carbons to maintain 4 bonds per C atom.
most hydrocarbons have a cyclic isomer, too; so if it has one that is accessible from the post, i will usually include it. sometimes i can only make the cyclic isomer, so the linear one is excluded.
there may also be multiple linear/cyclic isomers, so as stated prior, these will only be included if there are less than or equal to 6 carbon atoms.
lastly, it is double-checked against online databases to ensure it does indeed exist, and i am not stupid (spoiler, i am).
1: while i am aware radical and ionic substances fit this description, this is a dumb gimmick blog, and i am trying to maintain as much readability for the average reader as possible.
end of technical bit
despite this blog being a parody of the usa in many ways, it does not share several of the various governments' opinions, and is intended to be a safe space for everyone.

NCERT-Solutions Hydrocarbons class 11 Chemistry notes
In Class 11 Chemistry-hydrocarbons serve as a fundamental topic within organic chemistry. Hydrocarbons are organic compounds composed exclusively of carbon and hydrogen atoms. The class primarily focuses on four major types of hydrocarbons: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and aromatic hydrocarbons.

Classification of Hydrocarbons Class 11 Chemistry
Aliphatic Hydrocarbons:
1. Alkanes (Saturated Hydrocarbons):
Single-bonded carbon atoms.
General formula: CâHââââ.
Examples: Methane (CHâ), Ethane (CâHâ), Propane (CâHâ).
2. Alkenes (Unsaturated Hydrocarbons):
At least one carbon-carbon double bond.
General formula: CâHââ.
Examples: Ethene (CâHâ), Propene (CâHâ), Butene (CâHâ).
3. Alkynes (Unsaturated Hydrocarbons):
Contain at least one carbon-carbon triple bond.
General formula: CâHââââ.
Examples: Ethyne (CâHâ), Propyne (CâHâ), Butyne (CâHâ).
Aromatic Hydrocarbons:
1. Benzene:
Consists of a six-carbon ring with alternating single and double bonds.
CâHâ.
Exhibits resonance, making the bond lengths and strengths intermediate between single and double bonds.
2. Substituted Benzenes:
Benzene rings with one or more hydrogen atoms replaced by other functional groups (e.g., methyl, ethyl, nitro groups).
Nomenclature:
1. IUPAC Naming:
Follows the rules of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
Prefixes indicate the number and arrangement of substituents, and the ending indicates the type of hydrocarbon (e.g., -ane for alkanes, -ene for alkenes).
Isomerism:
1. Structural Isomers:
Same molecular formula but different structural arrangements.
2. Stereoisomers:
Same structural formula but differ in the spatial arrangement of atoms.
Reactions:
1. Combustion:
Hydrocarbons react with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water.
2. Substitution and Addition Reactions:
Alkanes undergo substitution reactions.
Alkenes and alkynes undergo addition reactions.
3. Aromatic Reactions:
Aromatic hydrocarbons undergo electrophilic substitution reactions.
Important Terms:
1. Saturated vs. Unsaturated:
Saturated hydrocarbons have only single bonds, while unsaturated hydrocarbons have double or triple bonds.
2. Isomerization:
Process where one isomer can be converted into another.
These are just basic notes, and there's much more to explore within each category.
