Some notes:

I tried to make Emily's armor stylish and practical. I think it could be a improved, but it's a good first draft!

F's hair. How is it?? There's a super short (Hikaru short) option too, but... if Ada is trying to make him look cool then that's kinda... not cool. But the blind boy probably wasn't that trendy either, I don't know! Hahaha.

Emily's armored boots add to her height a little.

I was thinking while I was drawing F... he and Emily should have some sort of failsafe, right? I don't know how much the researchers trust either of them, but there's always a small chance that they could go rogue. So I thought they might have a chip implanted in their necks that's supposed to cause a small explosion when triggered. It works against F because it's automated, right? It can be detonated from a distance... but what works for him won't work for Emily, and vice versa. She probably has something else, or maybe she really is trusted absolutely. Maybe she doesn't have the technical skill to destroy the chip without setting it off.

Their posture is reflective of their personalities. Ada is awkward and a little nervous, but friendly. Emily is confident and smug. F is self-assured, but not showy. This was also supposed to be a study for how they smile, but I had trouble thinking of why F would be smiling! So I imagine he's trying to calm himself down here. That's why there's a hand on his heart and his stomach. So he's relaxed, or relieved about something. Don't know what, though...

Sure, she killed them all and left no survivors for intel. But for someone's first gig, being this successful right off the bat is the biggest boost of dopamine Emily has ever gotten. It's her happy place.

Ooooh! It seems like Emily's self-worth is determined entirely by her belief that she's "the best." So F (and Ada) coming along and tearing that down has gotta give her an existential crisis, ahaha! It's also apparent that her approach to conflict leaves no room for compromise or attempts to understand other people. She really is F's rival!

One of them even claimed that she was more in love with the idealized Blind Boy than the genuine article, and so this was less of her "best" memory and more of her best fantasy.

Hm. Sounds like—no, I won't say it. I don't want to upset you (sounds like Kahaku).

In response, F calmed the Others through his powers and decided to fill in as the friend she always wanted for a day. It starts out pretty awkward because neither really knows how to actually be someone's friend, but they gradually find their way through it.

Oh, that sounds like the kind of shit I love. Tons of opportunity for character exploration!! For just one day, they're both playing at normalcy—and they both struggle at it together! F, who in most other circumstances would be more successful than Ada is, is on the same level as her.

Nobody bothers him or even seems to notice him. Being away from other people's chattering minds allows him to calm down in ways he has never been able to do before.

This reminds me of another psychic character... but the only one I can think of is that guy from Code Geass, who is not. It. You probably know all the psychic characters that I do... but I thought it might be a helpful character reference? I'll let you know if I remember!

LR is visibly livid when she gets back, and she gets a harsh lecture. She can't even remember being scolded by anyone before this.

I don't know if Emily is a character you sympathize with at all, but I can't help but feel sad for her. Ada has the freedom and ability to be human that she doesn't, and F completely outclasses her. Because they're all clones, it really emphasizes how much her life could have changed if just a little thing had been different. And that's probably the point! That they all had the same potential, but their different circumstances resulted in very different personalities. But still... I feel protective of her now! Oops.

Now's the time for me to introduce one of my character sub-categories: Reminds Me of My Sister! Examples in this category include:

And yet his own powers make him the most empathetic of the three. It makes him the least judgemental. It enables him to understand people as people and ironically humanize them, therefore making him most capable of compassion despite being a weapon. He has the least sense of self because he's constantly bombarded by other people's sense of self, and yet that opens up ways for him to be the least egocentric of all three.

The idea of psychic abilities intended to be weapons being used to help other people is really... nice! These abilities are just a tool. Someone like Emily can use them for violence like she's been taught, but someone like F can use them for good. It's hopeful. Any skill, even one that doesn't seem to have any net positive to it, has the capacity to help others.

Part 1

Bruh. The rambling. The rambling does not stop. What the hell.

❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?

(1) Emily: Her first gig and debut as Project Gu's success was to protect the president of ___ [insert country name] from a terrorist group's assassination attempt, but the terrorists were also aiming to hurt every other member of the cabinet, civilians, janitors, and cats/dogs/birds/animals nearby. Not only that, this attempt was the first time the common folks realized there have been private and unsanctioned attempts to replicate Project Gu, instead of just "speculations." World leaders were just shocked that these attempts had gone far enough.

Despite the challenge, Emily managed to save the president and everyone else, defeating the terrorists in the process. Sure, she killed them all and left no survivors for intel. But for someone's first gig, being this successful right off the bat is the biggest boost of dopamine Emily has ever gotten. It's her happy place.

(2) Ada: Ada will probably think her time dating the Blind Boy was the best, though that memory, unfortunately, turned sour because, well, he slipped on a banana peel and passed away (see Part 1). The Others mock and laugh about this, and that kinda sours the memory a little more. One of them even claimed that she was more in love with the idealized Blind Boy than the genuine article, and so this was less of her "best" memory and more of her best fantasy.

In the story proper, one of her best memories will be this day shortly after meeting F by "happenstance" (it wasn't really a chance meeting). She has been following F since they escaped Emily's pursuit, and F notes how noisy her head is and wonders how she managed to grow up like this. She told him about how alone she's always been and that the Others, unkind as they may be, are the only few companions she has.

In response, F calmed the Others through his powers and decided to fill in as the friend she always wanted for a day. It starts out pretty awkward because neither really knows how to actually be someone's friend, but they gradually find their way through it. It's the best; Ada has never felt so accepted and wanted before. And the world has never been quieter.

(3) F: One of his best memories is the same as Ada's, as seen above. But there is another one that he values a lot. Shortly after he runs away but before meeting Ada, F encounters a village or a town or a settlement similar to it. Despite his strange appearance or unknown origin, upon knowing he's hungry and thirsty, folks there generously feed him and give him shelter with no questions asked. Sure, they are also wary of him and tell their kids not to associate with him, but F agrees with their attitude because he knows what he is, even if they don't.

He takes up a temporary abode in a hut under a tree, a few distances away from the settlement, over those few days. Nobody bothers him or even seems to notice him. Being away from other people's chattering minds allows him to calm down in ways he has never been able to do before. It doesn't last long, because plot, but from then on he has been chasing that state of mind however he can as though it is his only salve.

In other words: one of F's best memories is his first meditation. BWAHHAHAHHAA! What do you expect from a psychic? Or ya know, me?

✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?

The day when Emily is given the mission to retrieve F. She had never heard of another Ghoul surviving—and now suddenly there's another one whose status and importance exceed hers, especially from LR's perspective. That pisses her off to no end; it is a betrayal of her identity. Then after that, she finds a Ghoul and mistakes her for F, only to realize it was another one who was supposed to be dead. To make matters worse, Ada is mentally awry, useless, and literally without powers. Emily is given the directive to either kill or consume her (she picks the former), and yet she somehow loses Ada and fails her mission on this front, too—something that rarely happens.

LR is visibly livid when she gets back, and she gets a harsh lecture. She can't even remember being scolded by anyone before this.

It is a whole string of shitty events to her.

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

Well, some of F's characteristics and personalities are based on a dear friend of mine whom I really admire. I also deliberately fashion in some of the Buddha's life story, such as "running away from home despite his cushy-ass life in search for liberation from suffering," though F's concern is simply his own suffering.

But that's probably not the thing I like most about F!

See, F is the least human of the 3 Ghouls. He's a human-looking monster—even more so than Emily—from the beginning of his creation.

Ada won the Gudu gauntlet by staying away from the conflict when the embryos were fighting each other before being forced to haphazardly absorb them erratically into herself, including the last one standing, to preserve her life. Emily won by immediately killing every other embryo. F, though, won by forcing the other embryos via mind control to willingly disintegrate themselves into basic organic building blocks to bolster him. F would have heard the voices of these dead embryos just like Ada (since they both resorted to some sort of absorption-based means), but he crushed all of them through his psychic power while incubated, effectively murdering them twice.

And that's not counting how potent of a weapon he is, since unlike Emily who has a strong individualistic streak, he defers to LR and others like a good weapon should. He has killed fewer people than Emily has, but that's because he subjugates most of them via mental manipulation, performing feats like forceful amnesia, rewiring someone's brain into undergoing psychoses, and the like.

He's the most perfect Ghoul in that he really is just that. A fucking monster.

And yet his own powers make him the most empathetic of the three. It makes him the least judgemental. It enables him to understand people as people and ironically humanize them, therefore making him most capable of compassion despite being a weapon. He has the least sense of self because he's constantly bombarded by other people's sense of self, and yet that opens up ways for him to be the least egocentric of all three.

I like characters like F because it allows exploration of how someone, created to be an inhuman monster, nonetheless possesses traits and qualities that can allow them to be more than that. It's a Buddhist outlook (the same one that undergirds the idea of one achieving Nibbana) that can be played around, challenged, and explored through F, who has shades of selfishness and delusions hidden beneath his seemingly "noble" qualities.

A non-human striving to become human—it's one of the perennial themes that I love.

B - who gets tied up and how?

They both alternate between being tied up, but the main one getting tied down during sex is Joseph. Sarah knows a few rope tricks and he enjoys having her experiment on him.

C - how do they cuddle?

Joseph likes to be the one to hold her. He’s almost always the big spoon since it makes him feel like a protector.

D - how do they dirty talk?

They’re pretty vanilla in this regard. They mainly just tell each other how they make them feel and what they want them to do to themself or the other.

Retrospective: Illustrated Merlin Alphabet Challenge

Finally finished the Merlin Alphabet Challenge, so here's the artist notes no one asked for! See below the cut for comments on each piece by order of creation. Be warned folks, it's a long post.

Before we begin: credit to @merlin-gifs for the challenge, which can be found here. It's awesome, go do it.

First thing you should know is I did probably 80-90% of these while on phone calls or in Zoom meetings and that's reflected in the simplicity of most pieces -- the compositions aren't complicated, the lines aren't refined, the coloring is slapdash. If you noticed variation in quality of the pieces, that's why!

Second: I tried to focus on trying something new for each drawing. Didn't always happen, but this challenge did succeed in helping me push me out of my own comfort zone.

Without further ado...

A is for Arthur Pendragon

Textures, baby! Brushed metal of his armor, scratchy linen texture of his shirt, wispy softness of hair and skin. I'd recently gotten my tablet out of storage after a year of figuring out where the hell I was going to live and this was one of the first pieces of digital art I spent time on. Glad it was Arthur kicking us off!

B is for the Beginning of the End (1x08)

Fun fact, I did not draw this with my tablet. I drew it with my work computer's touchscreen. It was awful, would not recommend.

C is for Camelot

I wanted to get used to different brushes, so landscape of the castle it was! There are brushes that help with drawing grass; I did not use said brushes and my wrist hurt afterward. That being said, I really enjoyed working on this and it was one of the few pieces I didn't do while multitasking.

D is for Daegal

Also drawn on my work computer's touchscreen, not my tablet. I didn't learn my lesson from B and the experience was even worse. This is my least favorite piece which sucks because it's Daegal so I'm slated to redo this sometime in the near future. Gotta do our boy justice.

E is for Elyan

Oh, I adored drawing this. Elyan often gets shafted in terms of fandom appreciation so I made sure to choose Elyan for this prompt and to participate in the Elyan fest. Plus, I love a good ghost story and figuring out a way to include the druid spectre was fun. Didn't multitask on this piece because Elyan deserved my full attention.

F is for Freya

Ho boy. This piece. I have such mixed feelings on this drawing. Really really didn't like it after I'd decided it was done and very nearly scrapped the whole thing. I had a vision in my head that I just couldn't render into reality and it frustrated me SO MUCH. Looking back, I like it much better than I did when I first created it.

G is for Gwaine

What can I say, he's pretty when he's cold. I didn't stretch too much with this one -- it's my normal drawing style, I was just trying to find a brush that mimicked the softness of pencil.

H is for Hunith

Another one that didn't stray too far from my comfort zone. I was stupid sick and slammed at work, so a motherly Hunith manifested herself. I blame the bad brush choice on the cold medicine.

I is for Isolde

I woke up and chose violence! Tried to vary my figure drawing style a little in this piece but my brain resisted, resulting in... this. Not mad at it, but not happy with it either. Poor Isolde.

J is for Juggling

Ah, this lovely piece was drawn during a particularly vexing meeting at work. Fun fact, there's another version of this line art that's less about Merlin's stress and more about mine.

K is for Knights of Camelot

Continuing the theme of doodling through bad news and shit meetings. Like I said above, normally meeting doodles aren't complex because I'm concentrating on something else. This one was more involved because I didn't want to concentrate on the meeting. I have a few issues with this from a technical standpoint (perspective, my nemesis) but it's still one of my favorites. Tried some funky coloring technique, didn't hate it.

V is for Vibrant Colors

And here is where we said fuck the rules and started going out of alphabetical order! This one was really fun to do and I loved kicking off Albion Party with this as my first submission. The colors were a challenge (as I hoped they would be) and this is the first time I had to do some color tweaking midway though and after finishing the coloring process. Vibrant Arthur, my beloved. This started as a multitask doodle but took dedicated time to finish.

O is for Old Religion

The concept for this one was buzzing in my head for a bit before a quote-prompt solidified it. I adore the thought of more visible, tangible representations of Merlin as the son of the elements, of "magic itself" -- not just sun-gold eyes, but sea-water hair and sandstone-skin. A complement to the vibrant Arthur portrait.

S is for Sorcerers

When I said I wanted to challenge myself, I wasn't kidding. Ho boy, this was fun but frustrating. I wanted to completely illustrate a gif. So I did. Will I do something like this again? Maybe. A while from now.

M is for Morgause

See above -- same illustrated gif style so at least I was able to reuse some drawings. Poor Morgause ended up looking a little wretched here because I was mentally done with this when I was drawing her. Love the concept of tarot cards + Merlin but others are doing it so I won't continue this series.

Z is for Zzzz

This one was specifically done to test out some custom brushes I made in Krita to make abstract background drawing easier for me. I think they turned out well! Plus who doesn't love bb iridescent Aithusa.

L is for Leon, P is for Percival

Quick, minimal doodles of the boys! Mentally, I was going for a Brady's-style retro ensemble cast TV show credits feel. Not mad at it! Some boys look closer to their actors than others (I think my brain broke drawing Percy, my apologies to Tom Hopper).

T is for Tristan

It wasn't until after I posted this that I realized there was more than one Tristan in Merlin. Could have drawn Isolde's bf but I drew Ygraine's dumb jock undead brother instead. Had some fun with dark greys and blacks here regardless.

Q is for Queen Annis

Best royal in Albion, bar none. I tried a different coloring technique here and I kinda like it! may make it my go-to but we'll see. Old habits are hard to break. Also: our queen deserved more badass clothes.

X is for Arthur X Merlin

Oh, be still my shipper heart. Doodled and colored during a meeting. I had hoped to spend more time on it outside of multitasking but alas, work is a bitch. This one is slated for a rework sometime in the future; I adore the concept too much to let it go without creating another version of this that isn't an utter mess.

U is for Uther's Ward

And here's my attempt at forgoing line art. Not fun, do not like.

Y is for Young Warlock

Channeled some pain into this one. Those are the dead eyes of someone who had been told that he'd succeeded when his friend died. That the destiny he'd been expecting to carry on his shoulders into old age was done and dusted before he turned 30. Grief plus the existential dread of the aimless immortal. Oof. One of my favs.

N is for Nimueh, R is for Rising Sun, W is for Will

And we end on this sorry offering. I was away from home for a while without my tablet and I just got tired of waiting. So, pen doodles at the airport. This was a challenge in its own right because 1. pen only and 2. I wasn't able to pull Netflix up for a reference on the fly. Which is why Will's face is obscured and Nimueh looks.... not like Nimueh lol.

In summary: this was a goddamn joy to do. I finished 26 letter prompts in approximately 21 weeks, which exceeded my own unspoken goal of filling one letter per week. I found a good, happy corner of the Merlin fandom after a years-long hiatus away from being a fandom creator. KaruShuu as Parents

Am I obsessed with doing KaruShuu head canons? Absolutely.

Will I spam my Tumblr with them? Oh you bet I will.

Today, I present to you: KaruShuu if they were parents!

Before you read, I don't think it's that important (lol) but me and my dear friend were doing some KaruShuu family themed Scenarios and I am obv in love with each and one of them, but basically KaruShuu have three kids there, (adopted):

A 14 y.o daughter named Dai

A 10 y.o son named Touma

And a probably 1-2 y.o baby girl named Mika

(Pls don't attack me we just needed kids names for our scenarios and we went with these to not get confused 😭)

Oh and again, before we start I want to make something clear: KaruShuu would be the best parents ever. I don't make the rules. ✨

Who carries the kids from the couch/car to the bed? - Karma and while he is taking the kids out, Shuu quickly gets out of the car/ or gets off the sofa to make the bed for their kids so they can sleep.

And who soothes the kids after a nightmare? - I think both would; both would be the type to be the best soothers when it comes to nightmares since they as kids probably didn’t have anyone to comfort them. (T^T)

Who wants to throw out the car seat because the stupid thing won’t strap in? - Karma lmao

Who cries on the first day of school?  - Karma (NFSIWEF PLEASE-) But Shuu would too when he gets home bc he will be like "my babies are going to schoollll T^T" with a mix of "I miss them so much"

Who gets the kids into the local sports team? - IMAGINE KARMA AS AN COMPETETIVE PARENT ON THOSE PARENTS AND KIDS GAMES AND MY GOD- HE WOULD BE A B E A S T.

And who’s the parent that gets way too aggressive at these games? - KARMA AGAIN BUT SHUU WON'T HESITATE TO CHEER FOR THEM ❤️❤️

Who lets the kids stay up and watch movies and who sends them to bed? - Karma would let them stay up late but there must be a good reason, like studying late or maybe Saturday/Sunday night to watch movies. Shuu on the other hand says when it comes to studying for example: "Grades are important, but sleep is more important so please go rest" (Also this quote is actually from my own parents <3) (I love Shuu so much he would be an ‘A+++’ parent)

Who sneaks candy to the kids before school, whilst the other pretends not to notice? - Karmaaaaa buttt~

On maybe special days, Shuu would as well and then the kids are like "We had two portions of sweets today, dad!" and Shuu is like: "What-" and that would be the way he would find out that Karma has been sneaking candy into the bags of their kids for the past years-

Who does the “hurt my baby and I’ll kill you” speech when their kid brings someone over? - KARMA TO THEIR ELDEST DAUGHTERS GF/BF PLS- Imagine, Dai (here taking as an example since she is the eldest also again: please it's just taken as an example!! September Wrap Up

Wow, guys. It’s September. And that means the Fall comeback rush! We hope all your favorite groups are making comebacks soon, and if not, keep hope because there are still a few months left in 2019! 

We’ve been going strong, getting things ready for my next announcement-- WE ARE STARTING A PODCAST! The first episode will be up on October 6 with a second episode following shortly (release dates for subsequent episodes will be announced soon). The three of us have been talking about this since at least March, and we are happy to report that we are getting closer to the release! 

Our aim is to release two episodes a month, the first episode will follow a looser format where we talk about a lighthearted topic, while the second episode will be more informative. In this first episode we will talk about the different ways the three of us got into KPOP! We will be on SoundCloud and eventually Spotify and iTunes. More information and links will be posted soon!

In lesser but still exciting news, we now have a Spotify! We will be putting up personally curated playlists on there so please check it out and follow us there as well!

The film had over 500,000 cinema admissions.)  September 16, 2010: Cyrano Agency (This witty comedy stars Uhm Tae Woong and Park Shin Hye. The movie was twenty years in the making before finally going into production under Myung Films. Despite it’s low budget it made a slow rise to over 2.5 million admissions. EunBi and RiSe debuted in Ladies’ Code as a part of the original five-member lineup in 2013. EunBi was known for her sweet personality and sense of humor. RiSe was a humble beauty queen with a heart of gold. Together, these two were known for their close friendship. After EunBi and RiSe’s passing, the fans and remaining members of the group examined Ladies’ Code’s discography under a different lens, and the remaining members came to earn quite a bit of respect for how they handled their loss. EunBi and RiSe are greatly missed by fans who still celebrate their birthdays every year.

Lópaki - An Italic Space Creole

This is a new conlang for a worldbuilding project that’s been in my head for years! Lópaki is an analytic creole spoken in some of the outlying star systems of the Orion–Cygnus Arm. It is an Italic-based language that emerged from contact between Italic and Canaanite peoples who were taken from Earth and enslaved by the Gwat Níir (more on them in a later post). Although much of its vocabulary derives from Proto-Italic, it has a grammar with a noticeable Semitic influence. Given that it diverged from the other Italic languages over 3000 years ago, it is not mutually intelligible with any known language on Earth.

Phonology and Orthography

In universe, the Latin script is not used to write Lópaki, as its speakers are completely unfamiliar with it. It is instead written in the Standard Script commonly used throughout the Orion–Cygnus Arm, which I will touch upon in a later post. For our convenience, I have created a system for transcribing Lópaki in Latin letters.

Glottal stops are never written initially because any word without an initial consonant will start with one by default. This is a phonological quirk shared with Arabic, where every word must start with a consonant. An example is the word agru “field” which is pronounced /ʔagru/.

Pronouns

The personal pronouns of Lópaki are mainly derived from Proto-Italic, with the exceptions of the third person pronouns which have a distinct Canaanite origin. Like many Semitic languages, each pronoun exhibits an independent and enclitic variant, shown below.

Singular:

2nd fem: tua / ta

3rd masc: hua / ho

3rd fem: hia / he

Plural: 

1st: nous / nu

2nd: bous / bu

3rd: huna / hu

The “enclitic” forms of pronouns can be placed after an object to indicate possession. For example, one could say fadra hu “their story”.

Nouns

Nouns only decline for number, and they do so in 4 different ways depending on the ending sounds of a noun. See below:

Any nouns that end in a consonant suffix -a when plural. This is a vestige of Proto-Italic best seen in the noun snib “snow” > sniba “snows”

Nouns that end in -a or -i simply add an -s when plural. For example, manti “mind” > mantis “minds”

All other nouns end in -u and form the plural more irregularly. This is another feature passed down from Proto-Italic, and is best seen in the previously mentioned agru “field”, which becomes agroi “fields”.

Verbs

Verbs in Lópaki are relatively simple, only conjugating for tense and mood. There are only two types of verbs, which are deemed a-stem and i-stem verbs. Examples of both are shown below:

I like characters who are supposed to be divine worshiping normal humans. I thought of that with the line about That Woman being a saint. What I'm curious about is... did F care about That Woman as a friend at all? Was there the potential for a mutual relationship, or even a noble friendship there? Or is it the kind of situation where he only started caring about her after she died (in which case he's not affected by her death, he's more focused on himself)? I have a feeling it's the second one, but both are equally juicy! Maybe it's a bit of a combination.

Do That Woman's family and friends kill themselves afterwards? Or do they wait a while so they can spread the word about their new god? I'm kinda interested in how it spreads.

F's Relationship with Ada (4) Attraction, aversion, primal confusion. The Three Poisons.

LR taught F skills that matter as The Most Powerful Ghoul From The Project. They trained him to be able to identify a person from the noise of a crowd in a busy metropolis during rush hour, for example.

They also trained him to sniff out enemies through their thoughts. No matter how well-trained an assassin is, even with their emotions dampened, F can catch clues of their intent and immediately pressure them to ruminate more deeply into their thoughts against their conscious will. Their plan would then unravel, and he would alert LR, who usually told him to mentally destroy the assassin into killing themself or willingly give up.

The Ghouls' enemies—chiefly the anti-Ghoul activists/terrorists—have theorized this counterattack to be possible but never received any real confirmation of it, because F made sure that whoever they sent out had their minds so scrambled and destroyed that there was no lucidity left.

Anyone in the Research Institute goes through rigorous psychological screening. LR wants to sanitize the people in their institute, as it is what they believe to be the seat of their ruling and the origin of their transhumanistic revolution. People who exhibit a certain degree of mental illness or "abnormality" are excluded from any position within the research team or institution; not even the janitor can be too depressed or too anxious.

Despite this degree of sanitation, F still thought other minds were rather chaotic and—if he's not vigilant—liable to overwhelm him. Again, this is why he trained himself to put a distance between others and his own mind among other ways to calm himself down. He needed to be guarded against the turbulence of so many minds out there.

It does, however, mean that F is not used to being around people who are legitimately suffering from mental illness. It's seen in how, despite Ada's situation not counting as a true case of mental illness, it still bemuses F and prompts him to silence the Others.

F hears That Woman's thoughts at certain times of the day. She wants to kill people. Or, she believes she's killing people already. Or, she thinks she's going to snap at any time and bite into someone's neck and become drunk with their blood. Or, she is a plague to her family and friends, because she's attracting death. Or, she—

All of these are reminiscent of what LR had taught him to be markers of enemies. F's habits are constantly stirred by her.

He doesn't act on it yet because his new friend and traveling companion, Ada, also exhibits similar strange thoughts. Hers might have come from sources that are "not her," but there are still similarities that F recognizes: the distress over their inability to control or silence them, the anxiety over the things these thoughts say, and the desire to act fine and functional regardless of these intrusive thoughts.

It might not be dangerous, F thinks. Ada isn't harmful. That Woman shouldn't be, either.

His mistake is confiding in Ada about his findings. Because it turns out to be one of the rare times when Ada and the Others are more or less on the same page—

their object of desire is the same person, after all.

Ada tells F that The Woman is dangerous. These thoughts stemmed from real places. Real origins. Unlike Ada's, which were uncontrollable because they came from separate entities grafted into her brain. That Woman is human, and so all of her thoughts originate from her. She's thinking this because she knows it's true on a certain level. She panics over their existence because she knows they are secrets she doesn't want others to find out.

Recall how many of F's later cult followers are people who suffer. Agitated people. People who want to find peace and are therefore drawn to F's automated ability to calm others down (to protect himself, yes, but who's splitting hairs over his intention?). That Woman is similarly attracted to F due to it, too. One can even say, quite maliciously, that F possesses the maximum amount of rizz to broken people. Rizz for the mentally ill.

F could have asked That Woman about what she's suffering from. He could have been advised to listen to That Woman explain her condition in her own words. He could have done a lot of skillful things... if the counsel he trusted had wanted that for him.

But Ada tells him to interrogate That Woman the way he used to do back in the Institute. Make her dive into her psyche on her own. Make her face her thoughts and see what the full scope is. You'll be able to see if she's really bad or not.

F believes her, so he drives That Woman deeply into her intrusive thoughts, forcing her to ruminate on them. The Woman's behavior becomes erratic for the rest of the day. She begs people to tie her up. She lies in a ditch because "the ditch is so narrow I can't move my arms while I'm here, right?" She refuses to explain herself to concerned friends and family why she's doing all of this in fear.

F is confused by That Woman's behavior. His interrogation has revealed to him that That Woman's "homicidal thoughts" are truly that expansive. There is no end to it. It even seems a little bizarre at times, but by LR's standard, she's incredibly dangerous.

Panicked, her friends and family rush toward him and beg him to help her, as That Woman seems to listen to him. F hesitates; he has no idea if he should or should not. He doesn't know how to make his own decision or judgment. Every one of these people's thoughts and intentions are slightly different. Far away, That Woman's behavior has caused a spike in fear and anxiety in other humans. It was not unlike those who see someone suddenly flashing a knife or a gun. There is an acute, urgent sense of danger.

F doesn't know what to do. So, as is his habit, he defaults to someone he trusts. He is a weapon awaiting his master's order.

Ada hesitates. This is going waaaay beyond her intended effect, but seeing That Woman miserable and exposed, and seeing the distress on F's face, makes her giddy. Now F knows the dangers of associating with anyone else other than his friend, confidant, and fellow Ghoul. Me.

Ada decides, in the end, to tell F to sedate That Woman psychically after she's finally done enjoying this little turn of events.

By that point, however, That Woman has already sedated herself.

She throws herself off a high building and dies instantly, tormented by her bolstered intrusive thoughts till the very end. The impact of the pavement against her skull must have hurt for a millisecond; but if her head hadn't turned into mush, people might see her smile from the bliss of long-awaited silence.

All this happened within a day.

F realizes it agonizes him. The result rattles him; he's back to the suffering he has tried to escape by running away from LR. He thought Ada was different, and yet this way of using him is so obvious, that he finally realizes she's no different from LR.

The grief from That Woman's friends and families overwhelms him. His own rage, explosive and sudden, froths from the edge of their outpouring emotions. It is his first, though unintentional, psychic attack against Ada.

It renders her catatonic for hours. She would have been catatonic for weeks if she didn't have her fractured mind.

But F reels himself in as he has been trained to do. He takes Ada's suggestion to sedate people mentally—he might be too late to save That Woman, but it's soon enough for her surviving family and friends. He tells himself it is the last time he listened to her.

He feels so much remorse that he overdoes it.

Those people were more than just calm. They were enraptured. They start to cry not in pain or sadness, but in rejoicing, as though they have seen That Woman ascend to paradise and briefly join with her. It is ecstasy.

F's first cult followers are That Woman's surviving friends and families.

When they return to reality, they see him as beatific and divine. She was touched by you! She had known this is your true nature! You're no human; you're a god! This is why she is so close to you. This is why she martyrs herself! She is blessed!

They believe in their twisted logic so much that once again, F is overwhelmed by their emotions. They convince him that everything is perfectly, blissfully correct. This is the course that should have taken place. They comfort F through their blinding faith in him and in The Correctness of The Event. Everything happens for a reason. This is the way it should be. You're a god. You merely do what must be done. Divine will. Ineffable decisions.

F breaks away from Ada from that point onward. This is the beginning of his unwitting—and later, willing—journey to start a cult of his own. He might have been a god, but That Woman was the saint.
