Hi everyone! Hope you have a good day.
So I've been obsessing over this one space pirate lately... And I think he totally deserves a beautiful woman to lighten his days.
So may I present you:
Ethel Felicity Blaine
Universe: Treasure Planet (2002)
Age: 26
Race: Felinid (I think she'll be some kind of sub-race, because her features are based on a caracal, not a typical house cat)
Personality: caring, thoughtful, resilient, risk taker, indecisive, impulsive.
Likes: Working, moments of solitude, comforting people, adventures
Dislikes: Dishonesty, egoism, rude guest at the inn, feeling helpless.
Goals: Getting back her courage and finding new ways of living.
Tumblr media
I'm currently working on a fan fiction and I think I'll be posting it soon but I need to do some more work on it! For now I wanna give you a little premise:
TW: Toxic relationships, trauma
Ethel is a young woman, working at Sarah's Hawkins inn. When she was a teenager her father, an Interstellar Officer send her to a school for troubled kids, since she was pretty rebellious and he wasn't the best at supporting her while she was going through rough times.
There she met her first love- at first he seemed like a really nice guy with a really tough past, a real fighter. After graduating they quickly moved in together, and Ethel started working at Sarah's inn. Not even a year has passed, when her seemingly loving partner started to grow possesive of her and abusing her both mentally and physically. She tolerated that for a few years, trying to be understanding, in hope he would listen to her and they'll be back to how things were before.
But one day, he went way too far with his actions so Ms. Blaine had to run away. She knew exactly the place she would find shelter in, as over the years of working in the inn she kind of became a part of Hawkins family. Sarah was almost like a mother she never had, and Jim seemed to be the reflection of her in her teenage years. Sometimes she regretted that she can't find the courage she had in the past. Maybe if she did she would never end up in that situation.
Sarah and Jim welcomed her with open arms and listened to what happend. Sarah was furious, she knew that it would happen but she couldn't convince Ethel to leave. The young felinid really fought for her relationship. She believed that her love didn't wanted to hurt her and tried so hard to make him stop, but it was of no use. It seems like you can't change people. After the indicent she was spending most of her days working as hard as she can to get rid of intrusive thoughts. She never lost hope for brighter days though, as she was finally surrounded by people who cared for her. But she could never expect what was coming. Or maybe, who was coming into her life.
That's all for now!
What do you think? If there's something you think I can do differently, let me know! Also, the graphic below is made by me and please do not repost it! My base was a screencap of Jane from Tarzan.
Thanks for reading, it means a lot to me! 💜💜💜

I did say I'd post snippets from my fanfic's so here's the first batch. This comes from my first ever posted work Dawn of the Bloodsuckers. Better known as my mbav retelling fic, for context this moment takes place during the cafeteria scene instead of Benny, Ethen and Rory's conversation I extended Erica and Sarah's segment. Since Dakota and her friends were sitting with them and I couldn't find a way to segway into the boys in a way that wouldn't be weird (First time writer woes am I right.) Any way enjoy this little segment more will come and if you're interested fanfic links are in my bio.
*Dakota staring off into space while looking at the table Benny, Ethen and Rory were sitting at.*
Erica: "Dakota? Dakota? Hello" Waves her hand in front of her. "Earth to Dakota!"
Dakota: now shocked out of her daydream "What huh! Sorry I wasn't listening. What were we talking about?"
Erica: "Dakota you've been staring at that table for the past fifteen minutes. Do you have a crush on one of those boys?"
Emily coming forward: "Yeah she does, and she's got it pretty bad too might I just say."
Sarah excitedly: Oh, which one does she like?"
Emily: "She likes that blond haired boy, Rory." She says while pointing to him, "Ever since that incident in Chemistry Class last Monday. Huh, she developed chemistry in the Chemistry Lab... What are the odds."
Erica: "Oh yeah, I heard about that incident, what happened in there?"
Amy (Whose Emily's sister by the way.) "Some Joker thought it would be a good idea to switch the labels of two highly reactive and highly hazardous chemicals. Dakota and Rory were paired up for the assignment. when they poured in the wrong chemical thinking it was the right one it boiled over instead of a simple smoke effect. Thankfully they caught the perpetrator, and no one was hurt. He got suspended for three months."
Emily Unsatisfied: "Well, I think he should've gotten expelled. He's little "prank" could have seriously hurt someone; not to mention it could have hurt Dakota, Thank goodness Rory thought fast and pulled her out of the way. But after those events the rest was history. Not seriously she couldn't focus at all during history class."
Dakota dreamily:  "After he pulled me out of the way I looked up into those beautiful blue eyes and in the most cliché romantic movie moment. My heart just stopped. He is so cute I just can't take it!"
Mabel: "Yeah, he is Rory is a total hottie!"
Emily groaning: "Oh you too Mabel?"
Mabel: "Yeah me too, I don't care what anyone thinks. Rory is hot with a capital H! And an O and a T and like fifteen exclamation points!"
(These two have it bad am I right.)
Dakota: "Okay, Mabel that's kind of overdoing it a smidge. He's hot with a capital HOT and five exclamation points."
And scene and yes, I did just remaster this whole thing.

I was going to put them in AF but I didn't have the time to finish their refs on time, so here's a little bit of yapping until I get to that.
WARNING: Maybe a little long(?) and nonsensical, I struggle with explaining things in an orderly manner 😅
Jonathan Meyer:
-Born in Vineta, during his childhood his parents moved to Kitzeh and then Rotfront. he really never fit in with the others, but finished his studies without any issue.
-Wanted to be a musician, but with how regulated entertainment was on the Nation, he opted instead to become an aircraft maintennance technician.
-got transferred to Leng once it was found he had connections to an underground music band that protested against the goverment (tho his involvement lessened over time, not that the Nation cares about that anyways)
Sarah Nguyen:
-Born and raised in Rotfront, she was in a way the perfect citizen(tm). Sarah was very patriotic and loyal to her nation during most of her youth, to such level of enlist to the army.
-...until she experiences the actual horrors of war and it's left with PTSD and deathly afraid of SAPR units (while they both fought on the same side, she's horrified by the amount of destruction they're capable of doing). While others see her as a hero, she sees herself as a monster.
-She gets transferred to Leng for assault to protektor unit (in the middle of a mental breakdown she attacked a Star unit)
They're both quite miserable at Sierpinsky, but eventually they bond, romance happens and once Jonathan is freed, he exiles himself but Sarah follows along and they grow old together. "We're alone, but at least we have each other" type of situation.
...and then a wounded Mynah unit shows in their home.

Palm Trees
Thank you @itsafullmoon for this prompt!
Pairing: Joel Miller x f!reader
Summary: Sometimes love can be found unexpectedly in the aisle of Home Depot's Christmas displays.
Warnings: language, fluff, hurt/comfort, brief mentions of OC deaths, sexual tension, flirting
WC: 3.6K
dividers by @saradika-graphics
Joel smiled as he watched Sarah skip down the aisles of Home Depot, him trailing behind pushing an orange cart that already was half filled with way too many boxes of Christmas lights, two light up penguins, and an inflatable Santa.
Christmas was never this thing, but he tried to make it special for Sarah. Her mother had always been the one to go the whole nine yards for the holiday while Joel kicked back and watched his girls have a blast decorating the house. Every year they participated in the Christmas lights competition their small town just outside of Austin, Texas held, and every year they lost. But it never really mattered because they had so much fun putting everything together and brainstorming on Thanksgiving what they thought would give them a competitive edge.
When his wife passed away four years ago, they stopped participating in the competition. It never felt right, and neither of them wanted to do it. But that year on Thanksgiving, much to Joel's surprise, Sarah turned to him out of the blue and said, we should do a penguin slip and slide on the lawn this year.
Tommy and Maria fell silent, eyes darting between Joel and his daughter while they waited for his response. Once he collected himself, he said, what about Santa in a hot tub?
Thus, the idea was born: Christmas on the beach. They still had plenty of supplies from years before, but he let Sarah plan the whole thing. If she wanted new things to put on the lawn, he would gladly pay for them just to see that huge smile on her face when she looked at him over her shoulder as she skipped down the aisle.
Given their beach theme, one thing they definitely needed and didn't already own was a light up palm tree, one which Sarah scouted out online and informed Joel it was the only home improvement store that had them in stock. He wanted to tease her and remind her that of course palm trees weren't popular to keep on the shelf at Christmas time, but she was so excited he just shook his head and grabbed his keys.
"Alright, it's gotta be here, it says it's in aisle 17A," Sarah said when she slowed down, scanning the huge light-up displays. Joel sighed and looked around, gaze drifting over presents, reindeer and wreathes until he heard Sarah gasp softly. He slid to a stop and whipped his head in her direction. She was standing in the middle of the aisle, crestfallen, as she watched a young woman lift the very last palm tree into her cart.
"Oh, no," she whispered, and Joel's heart broke when he heard the despair in her voice. He couldn't stand to see Sarah that way after she had been so excited for Christmas for the first time since the loss of her mother, so he did something he never thought he would do. He abandoned the cart with Sarah, instructing her to stay right there, and hurried down the aisle towards you.
"Hey, uh, excuse me?"
You looked up in surprise, then glanced over your shoulder to make sure he was actually addressing you, before meeting his eye again.
"Yes?"
Joel came to a stop in front of your cart and lowered his voice.
"I have a favor to ask," he began. When he saw the defensive look on your face, he quickly shook his head. "Sorry, wait. See the little girl behind me? With the cart?"
Your eyes flicked over his shoulder quickly, spotting the curly haired pre-teen, then nodded.
"Well, it sounds ridiculous but she's got her heart set on that damn palm tree, and-" Joel looked at the shelf to confirm before giving you his attention again. "You got the last one. You think I can buy it from you?"
You blinked in surprise, your eyes slowly sliding between him and the boxed palm tree in your cart, then bit your lip.
"Well..."
"Please," he begged before pulling out his wallet. "Whatever you want. I don't wanna make you feel bad, but we lost my wife a few years back. Lightin' up the house for that damn competition was somethin' she always did with her mom. This is the first year she's been excited for it and I don't wanna let her down."
Your shoulders sagged in defeat and you turned to your cart.
"That's okay, you can take it. You don't need to pay me," you told him, stepping aside so he could grab the box. But Joel shook his head.
"No, please, lemme give you somethin' for it."
You smiled sadly and waved him off.
"I don't want your money. Make your daughter happy. It's hard for a girl to lose her mom. Just... take it."
You turned your back to him but he heard you sniffle softly behind your hand and he frowned.
"You alright?" he asked, hands slowly lowering when he sensed something was amiss
"Yeah, I'm fine," you assured him. You crossed your arms over the handle of your cart and leaned against it, like the weight of the world was forcing you down.
"No, you ain't. This palm tree mean somethin' to you?" he asked while pointing at the box.
"No, not really," you said with a shrug. But when Joel refused to accept that as an answer, you sighed and rolled your eyes. "I lost my mom, too. Last year. She lived in Florida and she loved Christmas and I saw the stupid tree so-"
You shook your head, letting your sentence fall unfinished in the air. Joel's heart sank and he looked back at Sarah, who was staring at him curiously.
"Sarah, c'mere," he called. She pushed the shopping cart down the aisle and you looked up, tilting your head to the side in confusion. "Sarah," he said with his arm outstretched towards you. "This is-"
He cut himself off and looked at you expectantly. You stood up straighter and told them both your name, which Joel repeated before looking back at his daughter.
"What'dya say we get a little help with the Christmas decorations this year?" he asked her. Then he swiveled back to you before adding, "I mean, if you wanna. We could really use it if you're free."
A slow smile stretched across your face and you gave him a quick nod before catching Sarah's eye. She grinned at you before saying, "Sounds great. He's pretty much useless, anyway." Sarah jutted her thumb in Joel's direction and you both laughed softly before you agreed.
"I mean, as long as it's not an imposition," you said quickly. Both Joel and Sarah quickly put your worries to rest.
"Not at all. We'd love the help," he assured you. Then Sarah playfully nudged his arm.
"Ask for her number, Dad."
You felt your cheeks warm and Joel awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Can I, uh, get your number? So we can set up a date? I mean, a time?"
"Yeah, of course," you giggled when he grew flustered at his slip-up. You took his phone and tapped in your name and number before handing it back to him.
"We're doing a Christmas on the beach theme for our house this year," Sarah told you excitedly, dragging your gaze off her father, who you finally allowed yourself to notice was extremely handsome.
"Oh, yeah? That sounds cool. You know, I used to live in Florida, so we literally had Christmas on the beach every year. We can put some sunglasses on Santa and beach umbrellas over the reindeer," you offered. Sarah's eyes lit up when she looked at her father.
"Dad, she's brilliant," Sarah said matter-of-factly. Joel chuckled while you tried to hide your excitement by shyly looking down at your own phone.
"Alright, well, thank you," Joel said before hoisting the box from your cart and dropping it into his. "And, uh," he glanced sideways at Sarah before saying softly, "anything else you wanna do to honor your mom, just lemme know. We'll do anythin' you want."
Even though Joel dropped his voice, Sarah still heard him. Her mouth twisted sadly as she looked away to offer you some privacy.
"Yeah, thanks," you replied with a small smile. You wrapped your fingers around the rail of your shopping cart and began to back away. "You better actually call me. 'Cause if you try to pull one over on me just to take my palm tree, I'll find you," you joked.
"Oh, I'll be callin' you, don't worry," he told you while trying to fight the stupid grin from stretching across his face. Right before you turned and waved, he shot you a wink that made your heart flutter, then you disappeared towards the cash registers.
"She's pretty."
Joel's neck practically snapped when he heard his daughter speak by his side.
"Oh. I-I ... it ain't like that. I felt bad that she-"
"Yeah, okay, Dad," Sarah said with a roll of her eyes. "C'mon. We need to find the extension cords before the store closes."
Joel let Sarah lead the way while silently trying to unravel her unexpectedly relaxed reaction to him possibly flirting with another woman. He ached for the comfort having a partner brought, but for years he stifled his own desires for fear of upsetting Sarah. She was his one and only priority, and he was fine with that.
But for the first time he began to wonder if it was possible to have both.
Tumblr media
True to his word, Joel had called you a couple days later asking if you were free that Saturday to help decorate. It felt nice to have a distraction around the holidays. It kept you from wallowing and thinking too much about your mother, but as you were getting ready to leave, you decided you didn't want to forget about her entirely. You wanted to honor her memory in some way, so at the last minute you tugged on your ugly Christmas sweater, the same one you would wear every Christmas morning with your mom, then rushed out the door.
"Whoa! You came prepared!" Sarah exclaimed when she swung open the front door. You grinned and looked down at your sweater covered with garland that was hanging on by a thread and some horrifying looking Santa with a reindeer.
"My mom used to have a matching one, it was kind of our tradition on Christmas," you explained as you slipped off your boots.
"I love that. My mom used to have this vest with these, like, ornaments hanging off them. It was hideous but she legitimately thought it was cute," Sarah laughed over her shoulder as she led you into the kitchen, where Joel was hunched over the sink scrubbing dishes. While his back was still turned, you allowed yourself to quickly eye him up. He was wearing a red flannel with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a dish towel tossed over his left shoulder. He looked so domestic and comfortable in that moment that it had your heart skipping a beat.
"Oh, hey," Joel said when he noticed you. "Sorry. Just cleanin' up. Lost track of time."
"No problem," you said, eyes still fixed on the way his broad shoulders moved underneath his shirt. Distracted, you went to lean against the kitchen counter and almost fell when you misjudged the distance, causing Sarah to stifle a giggle and turn away.
Once Joel dried his hands, he turned to face you properly. His eyes landed on your sweater and you could see the inner turmoil in his expression as he tried to figure out if it was worn as a joke or not, so you quickly put him out of his misery.
"It's just something dumb my mom and I wore on Christmas," you explained. His shoulders dropped and he smiled.
"Cute."
You pressed your lips together to keep yourself from smiling like a fool when you watched his face turn pink and his eyes widen.
"I mean, it's cute - the sweater's cute - not you."
Then Joel's face twisted and he pinched the bridge of his nose.
"That's not to say you ain't cute, it's just - well, I was tryin' to say -"
"Oh, my god, Dad! You're making it so much worse!" Sarah laughed before disappearing back the way you came. "I'll be in the garage getting all the stuff together!" she called. You heard the rustle from her coat right before the door squeaked open and shut, leaving the two of you all alone.
"Sorry," Joel finally said sheepishly. You giggled and waved him off.
"Don't be," you replied. Maybe it was the privacy that gave you a streak of sudden bravery because you then added, "I thought it was cute. It being you."
Before you could register the shocked look on his face, you swiveled around to follow Sarah's path towards the front door. "See you out there!" you sang before slipping back outside, grateful for the cool winter air to help soothe your warm cheeks.
You were surprised with how quickly you grew comfortable with Joel and Sarah. They had an easiness to their family that you craved and very much enjoyed experiencing, even if it was only for just one afternoon.
"Good thing you were free to help today. There's supposed to be a blizzard tonight," Sarah said when she climbed the steps of the porch, arms filled with an assortment of tangled Christmas lights. "We never would have been able to put all this stuff up with a ton of snow on the ground."
"When's the competition again?" you asked, plopping down and grabbing a string of lights to unravel.
"Christmas Eve," she said, "You're coming, right?"
Your mind stuttered a bit at the question. You hadn't been invited, but you wouldn't expect to be, either. A few days ago, both she and her father were complete strangers. It would have been weird to spend Christmas Eve with them. Right?
"Oh, no, that's a time for family," you insisted while focusing all of your attention on the pile of lights in your lap. Across the yard, you both heard Joel swear to himself when two reindeer toppled over. You looked up and smiled. It was incredibly adorable to watch him work so hard to make the yard perfect for his daughter.
"So you'll be with your family, then?" Sarah questioned with a hint of sadness to her voice. Your mouth opened and closed for a second as you tried to think of what to say until you sighed and shook your head.
"No, actually I'll be alone this year," you told her after deciding to go with the truth.
"Well, then, why can't you come over?" she asked. Before you could reply, she lifted her chin and shouted across the lawn for Joel.
Immediately you raised your hands, waving them back and forth while saying, "No, please, I don't want to be a bother. I meant you should be with your family," you said.
"No one should be alone on Christmas," Sarah told you softly just as Joel had walked up, lifting one boot to rest on the bottom step.
"You're gonna be alone on Christmas?" Joel asked with a concerned look so sweet, it made your knees weak.
"Yeah, I mean, it's not a big deal," you said while doing your best to avoid both their eyes. You suddenly felt overexposed and uncomfortable, so you picked up the lights again and got to work untangling them.
"You should stop by," Joel told you. "I mean, only if you wanna. No pressure or nothin', it's just gonna be us, my brother 'n his wife but... we'd love to have you."
"We can all wear ugly sweaters, just like you and your mom used to," Sarah said, the offer making your heart melt.
"Uh, thanks, but I don't know..." you trailed off, still fixing your gaze on the lights. "I'll think about it."
The rest of the afternoon flew by, fortunately without any more awkwardness. The sun had set almost an hour prior to the three of you hurrying towards the end of the driveway so you could take in the beautiful Christmas landscape you created in all its glory.
"This is our year, I can feel it," Sarah announced happily between you both. You looked down at her and grinned, her dark brown eyes sparkling as she stared at the beachy Christmas scene you had worked so hard to create.
"Better be, considerin' my electric bill's gonna be through the roof," Joel muttered, but when you lifted your eyes to look at him, you caught him smiling just as wide as Sarah.
"Well, my job here is done," you said, clapping your gloved hands together. "I should hit the road before that blizzard comes."
"It's not supposed to snow til, like, super early in the morning," Sarah protested. "Can't you stay for a little while longer?"
"We were gonna order a pizza and watch a movie, if you're interested," Joel added. "C'mon, it's the least we could do for all your help."
You hesitantly agreed and you told yourself it was only because you missed being part of a family and absolutely nothing to do with how handsome Joel looked under the glow from the Christmas lights.
What you didn't expect was for everyone to be so exhausted after spending the day working hard that the three of you would fall asleep halfway through the movie. It was close to four in the morning when you awoke with a jolt, your neck craned at an impossible angle against the back of Joel's couch. You winced and tenderly massaged the knot in your neck, then straightened up and looked around, wondering what disturbed you in the first place.
It was Joel, who was in the process of gently picking up Sarah from the spot next to you. He noticed you were awake and held one finger to his lips. You swallowed tightly and nodded, remaining still and quiet so as not to wake up Sarah, and watched him carefully walk down the hallway past the kitchen to tuck her into bed.
Once they were both gone, you were left with a glowing television screen and a dryness in your mouth that had you wandering into the dim kitchen for some water. You were halfway through your glass and about to peer out the window when you heard Joel's voice behind you softly say your name. You swiveled around to find him leaning against the kitchen counter, still clad in that red flannel but now adorned with messy bedhead hair that had your mind going down a dangerous path.
"God, sorry I fell asleep," you said, placing your empty glass in the sink. "I'll get going-"
Joel laughed quietly, cutting you off.
"Don't think you'll be goin' anywhere. Did you look outside?"
Your face fell and you hurried over to the window, peeling the curtain back just to find his entire driveway, your car included, covered in a thick blanket of snow.
"Still comin' down, too," he told you. "Ain't safe to drive. You can take my bed and I'll sleep on the couch."
"Oh, gosh, no - I'll sleep on the couch," you told him firmly. The corner of Joel's mouth twitched into a little smile before he pushed off the counter, taking a few steps towards you.
"You're stubborn, y'know that?"
"I do," you replied with a grin. But when he got close enough to pinch the material of your sweater between his fingers, your smile slipped from your face and your heart began to race.
"I like it," he finally said, his voice so soft it sent a shiver down your spine. "You, by the way. You and that stubborn streak. Not the sweater, this thing is ugly as hell."
You laughed and quickly clapped your hand over your mouth so as not to wake up Sarah. Joel grinned and moved a little closer, the scent from his laundry detergent and faded cologne invading your senses.
"You'll come by for Christmas, right?" he asked, letting his hand fall back to his side. He gazed down at you, those beautiful eyes scanning your face like he was looking for something.
"I don't want to impose on your family time," you told him, noting you sounded a little short of breath from the close proximity. He just frowned and the hand that was once touching your sweater came up to pinch your chin.
It felt as if time stood still when he leaned down to gingerly brush his lips over yours. Then he leaned back and searched your eyes, checking to make sure what he did was okay. Without hesitating, you stood up on your tiptoes and pressed your mouth against his, too eager to feel the warmth of his lips again to wait.
"How 'bout now?" Joel asked after he tore himself away. You opened your eyes and looked up at him curiously, then he smirked. "You still think it's an imposition?" he clarified. Your eyes lit up and you bit back a smile as you pretended to think about it.
"Hmm, I'm not sure," you teased, "I might need you to kiss me again before I can decide."
Joel chuckled then crashed his mouth against yours, taking your breath away. You could feel a heat behind that kiss, one that was filled with promise and excitement that had you feeling lightheaded and giddy.
"Well?" he panted when he pulled away a second time, but he kept your cheek cradled in his palm while he waited for your answer.
"You make a very compelling argument," you whispered, wrapping your arms around his middle. He grinned and leaned forward again for another kiss, but stopped inches away so he could ask, "That mean you'll be here for Christmas?"
"Yeah," you breathed, "I'll be here for Christmas."

The Christmas Present
One-shot
PAIRING:  Roman reigns x OC Starr
Word Count: 5,832
Warning: Smut
What do you do when your bestfriend you've known all of your life tells you he wants to unwrap you for christmas and you've always wanted him to be your first?
Sorry this one was late, it was requested months ago and i'm finally working through requests in my inbox. Happy New Year everyone
Tumblr media
As I made my way inside, I felt somewhat out of place as it seemed I had walked into a tense situation as Jey guided me further into the house. I already was two hours late because I had to help my mom wrap some gifts for my niece.
“Jey, who was that yelling before you opened the door?” I asked. “Just Sarah acting a damn fool,” he said continuing to guide me through the beautiful two-story home.
“Wait…Sarah, as in Roman’s cheating ass ex…Roman told me she was history.”
“Oh, she is…..Has been for about months but won’t take the hint.”
Everything seemed calmer now that I was inside, as Christmas music filled the room, and everyone seemed to be in their own world.
Seeing a few familiar faces, I waved but stayed close to Jey as my eyes scanned the room finally spotting Roman and Sarah talking in the corner.
His stoic expression and powerful stance made many nervous but not me. I could tell he wasn’t pleased she had crashed his party but was trying to be respectful.
“How is he really doing, Jey?” I asked as he sighed looking at his cousin shaking his head. “He’s on edge you know, especially with the back-to-back losses. Big Uce, is getting better though.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t make Alfa’s funeral; I wanted to be there.” I said looking at my best friend really taking him in. He looked so tired, his beautiful beard more full and now had spots of gray.
“Starr, stop that…..You came home to be with us for Uncle Sika’s funeral, stood in the gap for me and was there for big Uce.”
“Hey, that’s what family does,” I assured him giving him a hug.
“I’m glad you home, we be worried about you.” he whispered as I caressed his back.
“I’m fine, besides I didn’t re-enlist this time, twenty years in the Airforce is enough,” I said as Jey held me tighter.
“I am so happy for you…I know he's gon’ be happy you back home. I mean it is for good right?”
“Yea, I’m home for good.”
“Good, cause that beautiful house you bought deserves to be lived in.”
“I know and thank ya’ll for helping mama keep it up for me.”
“You know dat wasn’t a problem. We were just worried about you all the way over in Italy by yourself.”
“I know but at least I’m home now.”
I knew how much they worried about me, but I was so thankful they supported my decisions. We had all been inseparable since the age of five, so it was a big change when we all graduated, and all went our separate ways.
The twins and Roman went off to college and I went into the Airforce following in my father’s footsteps. What can I say, we were some ambitious young people with the world at our fingertips.
“Booger we missed you!” Jimmy yelled, pulling me out of Jey’s arms scooping me up in a hug bear hug as I rolled my eyes.
“Ugh get off me, you just always have to bring up that mean ass nickname,” I hissed as he put me down laughing.
“Ignore him, you know he’s special,” Trin jokes slapping him on the shoulder as Jey cleared his throat trying to stop laughing.
“Aye, it ain’t my fault she kept a booger nose when we were kids.”
“Just like it ain’t my fault your bed stayed pissy when we were kids,” I countered as Jey and Trin busted out laughing.
“Daaaammmn! She got yo’ ass.” Jey laughed as Trin, and I embraced.
Our banter cut short as we heard Roman raising his voice. “Look just leave, Sarah!”
“I ain’t leaving without you! We can work this out!” she screamed as I looked at Trin and she shook her head as Jey’s wife Candice came over.
“Can you believe this shit?” she asked as Jey pulled her close and kissed her on the temple.  “Bae, let it go.”
“I mean how you cheat on somebody and now you here begging like ain’t shit happened?” Trin asked as I shook my head as Jimmy tapped me on the shoulder gently.
“What do you have in mind, sis. I see you thinking over there?”
“I’m gonna get Roman outta here, maybe have him take me home so he can get a break,” I said looking at my watch realizing it was close to 11 :00 anyway.
“You do that, and we will get her outta here, then shut down the party and lock up,” Trin said as I left them heading towards the ex-couple.
The look of happiness on Roman’s face when he spotted me made me smile as he ignored Sarah, scooping me up in his arms as soon as I was within arm’s reach.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming home,” he whispered in my ear as I chuckled. “What’s the fun in that, now come take me home..I want to give you your Christmas present” I whispered feeling the tension leaving his body.
“Shit, I been ready for that.…let’s go, you ain't gotta tell me twice,” Roman said ignoring Sarah putting me down as Jey tapped her on the shoulder.
“Aye, time to go shawty, party is over for you,” he said as she scoffed.
“Wait, so you gon’ throw me out Jey and you leavin’ with her Roman!? Roman…Roman come back!” she screamed as Roman, and I headed towards the backdoor.
---
Roman’s POV
I looked back just in time to see Trin grabbing Sarah by the arm leading her out of the living room. Something tells me that I wouldn’t have a problem with Sarah after tonight by the look on Trin and Candice’s face.
They both had been looking for a reason to beat her ass since they found out she had cheated on me and was still sniffing around.
I was anxious to be alone with Starr. The last time we were alone we almost crossed a line, there was no coming back from, but we stopped ourselves.
As I helped her in the car, I really didn’t even know how to approach the elephant in the room. Closing her door, I gave myself a pep talk as I walked around to the driver’s side.
“Don’t fuck this up, just be in the moment with her.” If it happens, it happens. If it does or doesn’t nothing changes between ya’ll.”
Four months ago
“Roman we got to stop,” Starr panted as I kissed her neck, my hands roaming her body.
“Why..This what we both want,” I moaned pulling her closer wrapping her legs around my waist grinding against her as she gasped in shock.
“I do but You’ve been drinking, and so much is going on. You’re not thinking clearly.”
“Oh, so now it’s something wrong with me because I want to make love to you. You told me, you wanted me to be your first, remember.” I said throwing back a conversation we had months prior.
“Roman, I do but you know right now isn’t the right time. Roman, stop you’re drunk and this isn’t you,” Starr moaned finally pushing me away as I held my hands up in the air in surrender.
She was right.. I didn’t know what had come over me, maybe it was the alcohol and everything that had happened.
“Look, I’m sorry… I’ll just crash in the other room,” I whispered grabbing my shirt not wanting to make the night worse.
“Roman, I want us to ta-”-
“Talk? Is that what you were about to say? Well, I’m tired of talking to people.. I just- I just wanted…. Look forget it, this was obviously a mistake coming here, so I’mma crash in your spare bedroom.”
“Roman, we gotta talk about what all this means, you can’t just turn off your emotions. You got to talk about it,” Starr pleaded as I shut down.
“Look, I buried my dad a few days ago…Things will never be the same for me ever again and I just wanted to be close to you.  I thought you felt the same, and I just made an ass outta myself. What else is there to talk about.”
“I do want - I-I-just not like this, please-”
“Starr, I’ll catch you in the morning before I head out,” I said leaning over kissing her tenderly on the forehead before leaving the room ignoring her pleas for me to stay.
I made a total mess of things that night, but Starr never judged me. We went about things as usual and had never discussed that night. Two weeks ago on the phone she asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I laid it all out on the table.
“I sent your present off today; I hope you like it since you wouldn’t cooperate and give me some idea of what you wanted for Christmas.”
“You ain’t ready to know what I really want for Christmas, especially since you’ve been all I’ve been thinking about for the last four months.”
“I've been thinking about you too. I wish I could be there in person but I’m still waiting to find out if they approved my leave or not,” Starr said moving around her kitchen as watched her every move.
“ You know what i really want for christmas....
"What?"
"I just want to unwrap you and get lost in you.".
"Roman."
"Aye, you asked and I told you . The shocked look on her face making me shrug my shoulders. Hell I ain’t have nothing to lose at this point. One thing my father's passing taught me was that life was too short, and i'm gonna go after what I want...And I wanted Starr.
“Roman, stop playin’ with me.” Starr stuttered nervously as I chuckled.
“I’m serious, you asked me what I wanted for Christmas.”
“Well, I wasn’t expecting you to tell me that you wanted me as a Christmas present.”
“Even if it’s only one night I can’t imagine a better gift than to get lost in you.”
“Roman-”
"Beautiful tree, fireplace, and you under me writhing in pleasure as I take you to heights you couldn’t dream of,” I groaned hearing her gasp.
“You’re not playing fair, this is dangerous,” she whispered as I smiled.
“I love danger,” I said dropping my voice an octave deeper knowing it was driving her crazy. I knew it was because I knew my Starr.
“Ro-”
“Tell me you ain’t curious, especially after what happened that night? Look just think on it.”
Man, I still can’t believe I said but it got us here..Well at least I hope. Listening to her hum along with the Christmas songs on the radio brought me out of my thoughts.
“I-I-I don’t want a lot for Christmas,” she sang softly as I felt my heart flutter.
“Alright Miarah Carey,” I joked as she blushed. “Don’t do me, I can carry a little tune.”
“Yea, you can which is why I just let you do your thing,” I said pulling into her garage.
“Oh, you pulling in the garage like you know you staying,” she joked getting out the car as I felt my dick jump in my pants.
“I wouldn’t be against it,” I mumbled getting out following her close. Her phone ringing almost startled her as she sighed picking up.
“Ma’ I just made it home,” she said putting the phone on speaker walking around cutting the lights off downstairs as I unplugged the tree.
“Damn, you meant you weren’t staying long when you said it, huh? Did you get to see everyone?”
I smiled hearing her mom giving her the fifth degree as Starr shook her head.
“Yes, I saw everyone Ma… The guys are fine, matter fact Roman just dropped me off,” Starr said putting her finger over her lips as I chuckled following her upstairs.
“Mama, I’m about to go to bed and I will be over before Riely gets up.”
As soon as the door closed, I closed the distance between us wrapping my arms around her trying to ease her nerves. “Relax….I gotchu,” I assured her as she blushed.
I mean it’s one thing to talk on the phone and talk about what you want to do, but to actually do it is another thing. I knew as bad as I wanted to be with her, if she said no I wouldn’t push the issue.
“Roman are we really about to do this,” she whispered looking at me in wonder as I gently kissed her on the forehead.
“Only if you want..I don’t want you to do something you don’t want,” I confessed truly giving her an out even though inside I was pleading with the gods that she wanted me just as much as I wanted her.
The thought of being the first man to make love to her stirring something primal within me.
“Make yourself comfortable. I got to get outta this dress,” she whispered putting her phone down heading into her master bath putting any questions I had to rest.
“Take all the time you need.”  Heading over to the fireplace, I took my coat off. The beautiful vintage Christmas tree illuminating her bedroom. The ice sickles hanging from the tree with the old school Christmas lights and ornaments were a beautiful touch.
Starr’s POV
“Ok….Just calm down. This is Roman not some stranger. You’ve wanted this since you were fifteen,” I whispered trying to build up my courage, pulling my dress off and jumping in the shower.
What if I disappoint him…..Fuck, what if he disappoints me?
Who the fuck am I fooling, Roman knows what he’s doing. I’ve seen this man and the shit he does when he’s on TV. What if I get addicted to him, I mean it’s supposed to be one time right?
My mind instantly thinking back to Sarah, even though she cheated, Roman still has her ass sprung…. Getting out of the shower I was still trying to make heads or tails of the situation I found myself in.
“You ok in there Starr?” Roman's deep voice penetrated the walls as my thighs clenched thinking about him penetrating something else. That damn voice.....Gives me chills...Oouu, I wonder does he talk you through it?
Damn, I’m officially in my brain and nervous as shit now.
“I’m ok, just got out the shower, I’ll be out in a minute,” I said drying off as I heard him move away from the door. Get it together Starr, you a grown ass woman and this is what you both want..Stop making it complicated."
Who am I kidding, it is complicated…I love him…I’ve loved him since high school…”Yea, this is a bad idea,” whined quietly before taking a deep breath up because even if it was a bad idea, there was no turning back now.
After putting on some lotion I tied one of the red satin Christmas bow sashes I had ordered around my breasts and another around my hips. Yea, I wanted him to get the full picture of unwrapping me from top to bottom.
Slipping on my robe I came out to see him sitting on the edge of the bed admiring the tree.  “I turned on the fireplace.”
“Um, thanks. The bathrooms all yours.” I almost forgot to breathe as he stood up and took his shirt off.
“Thanks, beautiful. I promise I won’t take long,” he said dropping a tender kiss on my forehead before going in the bathroom. I finally released the breath I was holding when he closed the door, and I heard the shower start.
Taking off my robe, I turned the covers down. “It’s a night of fun…Just enjoy, don’t think.” I kept repeating to myself over and over as I laid on my side and faced the bathroom patiently waiting for Roman…I mean good things do come to those that wait.
Hearing the water cut off, I sat up on my knees anxiously waiting for him. A newfound confidence took over me as the door opened and I heard his sharp intake of breath as he stood there clad in only a towel. His body still glistening, and hair wet.
“Damn, you look so beautiful,” he whispered licking his lips as I bit my lower lip nervously.
“Merry Christmas,” I whispered reaching my hand out to him as he slowly made his way towards me dropping his towel.
Oh…My…God..He is a Greek God…Keep your cool Starr.
“Are you sure?” he asked his voice thick with need as I blushed only pulling him closer truly taking in all of him for the first time.
“I don’t want you to fe”-
Grasping his hands I placed them on the satin bow, my eyes never leaving his. “I want this, and I want it to be you.”
I couldn’t help but moan as I watched him through hooded eyes. “Just let me know if you want me to stop,” he whispered, our lips finally touching and like a moth to a flame I surrendered. The unbridled passion behind it taking my breath away.
“Unwrap your Christmas gift, Roman,” I whispered as his hands touched the satin red bow, a low groan escaping his lips as his eyes trailed over my body.
The fact he was so turned on and unsure where to start made my heart race. The sexy deep groan his that spilled from his lips as my hips moved against him made my pussy purr in need.
“Shit, you look so beautiful like this…Anxious to give yourself to me.”
His voice…Oh my god his voice.
“Please, Roman,” I pleaded as he licked his lips. “Can I unwrap my Christmas present,” he murmured as I nodded anxiously.
“Use your words… Can I have my Christmas present now?”
“Yes, you can,” I gasped as he finally untied the sash. Leaning down, his mouth enclosing around my breasts, taking his time exploring each one as I squirmed beneath him ready to come undone from the sensual action as his eyes never left mine.
“Mmhm, I knew you were sensitive. Bet you so wet,” he rasped. Moaning softly, I entangled my fingers in his hair as he feasted upon my breasts seemingly determined to stay there having discovered how sensitive I was.
“Roman, I need it,” I pleaded. His hands cupping my breasts kneading them together as he took both nipples in his mouth devouring them as if they were his last supper. His gaze still piercing my soul.
“Fuck, just thinkin’ bout you, got me bout to cum?” he mumbled as his mouth continued to ignite a deep fire within me as his kisses move passed me stomach, his tongue swirling, then dipping inside my navel.
“Go lower, please.”
“You taste so good, baby.” He praised, as I writhed beneath him. Hand hands masterfully untying the second red satin bow leaving me now fully exposed.
“Merry Christmas to me,” I faintly heard him whisper, the first stroke of his long tongue against my pussy almost making me cum as I gasped looking down at him in shock.
“Roman!” Shit he’s dangerous, that was just one stroke. Watching him flatten his tongue, with each long stroke I became more undone.
“Umhm, it’s Roman and I’mma bout to make you cum all night. Now hold dem legs for me,” he commanded bending them towards my chest as I compiled.
Roman’s POV
The quiver in her legs and pleasure etched across her face as I made love to Starr with my tongue will the imprinted in my mind forever.
The strangled whine that escaped her beautiful lips as I began thrusting my third and forefinger along with my tongue continuously stroking her, ignited a deeper purpose within me….
To blow her fucking mind… For her to feel what it was like to be with me…Hell, to ruin her for every man after me that would even dare try to have her writhing under them in pleasure.
“You gon’ cum sweetness?” Yea, that’s her new nickname from now on..Pussy sweet like honey.
“Yes, I’mma cum…. Ooouu, right there..Right there….Fuck, just like that, Roman, don’t stop,” Starr cried as my fingers and tongue moved in sync determined to make her cum harder than she ever has.
“Yes! Oh, fuck Roman!” Starr screamed, her legs falling onto my shoulders as her back arched in pleasure satisfying my thirst for the moment.
Fuck, I love a good squirter… “Good fuckin’ girl,” I praised, removing my fingers, grasping her hips, wanting more…I needed more.
“Roman!” Starr squealed as I flipped her over onto her knees spreading her legs slightly.
“What are y-”
The words dying across her tantalizing lips as I laid between her legs on my back straight Salivating at the sight of her dripping pussy above me. “I want you to sit on my face and I want you to nut like you ain’t never nutted before,” I commanded as she looked apprehensive.
“Roman, I’m too bi-”
Not giving her a chance to finish her that thought I pulled her onto my face moaning in appreciation as she began to wind her hips slowly.
“Is this what you wanted?” she gasped, planting her hands on my stomach beginning to ride my face with more confidence, chasing the nut she craved.
“Fuck yea, this what I wanted.” I moaned against her pussy smackin’ her ass before getting back to business.
Starr’s POV
The feral growl that fell from Roman’s lips as I rode his face sent chills down my spine. His beard, mouth and tongue all together were kryptonite.
His dick standing at attention, glistening with precum and begging to be sucked wasn’t helping my thoughts either. It was too tempting; I needed to taste him.
Moaning, I leaned down licking the sensitive mushroom shaped head as Roman hissed tearing his mouth away from my pussy.
“Gon’ put it in your mouth, Starr. Don’t be scared, suckdat dick.” His words making my body tingle in excitement as he continued his assault on my pussy with his masterful tongue.
I wanted to see how much of him I could take in my mouth and with each strategic bobbly of my head, I took him deeper as Roman nearly bucked me off his face…
Got’em….I may be a virgin, but I got some secrets myself.
“Fuck, that’s how you get down?” he groaned momentarily stopping his assault.
“Mmhm, surprise,” I whispered after coming up for air briefly before getting back to the task at hand as he growled, “Fuck," before diving back in himself as our moans filling the air.
Suddenly I began to feel that familiar coil gathering in my stomach, my body tingling all over. Releasing his dick from my mouth, I sat up and began riding his face with a purpose.
“Yea, take whatchu want from me, sweetness,” he moaned gripping my hips, moving me faster as my legs began to shake reducing me to a chanting mess..
“Oouu, Roman- Yesyesyes,” I moaned stroking him faster in sync with my hips.  His beard, mouth and tongue had me on demon time and he knew it.
“Give it to me,” Roman growled as I came undone. “Roman! Fuck..f-f-fuck here it comes,” I cried at my body exploded coating his face with my juices as he happily and greedily drank.
“Mmhm, I love that shit, tastin’ so fuckin’ sweet…. Sweetness gon’ be your new nickname, baby girl.” I heard him whisper between slurps as I indeed had cum harder than I ever had before, still continuing to stroke him riding out my high.
I was euphorically drunk on him, but I wanted him to feel just as good as he had made me feel. Catching my breath, I leaned down taking him once again in my mouth.
“Fuck, I don’t wanna cum yet,” Roman groaned as I turned, kneeling between his legs.
Oh sir, you put that mouth on me like that…You about to get this nut…..Period.
Steadying my hands on his welcoming thighs as I tended to the task at hand, innocently staring up at him. “Yea….Take it all for me..Fuck that feels so good. You’re such a good girl.”
Humming in agreement, I refused to stop sucking him tortuously slowly and deeply as he gripped my hair.
“Suck dat shit, girl…..Damn.” Roman groaned bending his knees, planting his heels, accepting his fate.
“Fuck, here it cum, just for you, sweetness,” he growled cummin' hard.
I almost came myself watching him. As long as I live, I will remember the look on his face. Cracking a small smile, I opened my mouth for him to see his cum coating my tongue as he bit his lower lip.
“Mmm, does my sweetness spits or swallows?” Roman asked, his deep voice making my pussy drip as he caressed my face, desperate to know my answer to his question.
“Who says I can’t do both,” I whispered, letting his cum spill from my lips onto his dick as it jumped in response.
“Mmm, my good girl," he whispered watching through hooded eyes.
“Oops I made a mess…..Let me clean up behind myself,” I mumbled once again taking him in my mouth greedily sopping his cum back into my mouth and swallowing it.
“Fuck!” He moaned, his resolve crumbling in a heap. “I’mma fuck da shit outta you,” he professed taking me in a searing kiss that left me breathless and on my back at the foot of the bed before I could blink.
My senses on overloaded as his hands roamed my body “Please, Roman, I need you so bad,” I pleaded as we both looked down at our bodies about to become one as he slipped past my wet folds.
“You sure baby,” he whispered as I nodded pulling him closer. Both of us lost in the moment as he slowly rocked his hips. Suddenly feeling pop and burst of pain.
“UMPH!” I cried, clinging to Roman as he looked at me with indescribable passion in his eyes as we shared a tender kiss.
“Look at my good girl learning how to take my big dick. You doin’ so fuckin’ good,” he moaned grasping my thighs continuing to slowly slip inside deeper inside me.
“Roman, I-I,” I whined, overwhelmed as he caressed my face. His body trembling against mine as he’s fighting an internal battle within himself to take it slow and not lose all control.
“Mmm, I know it…I know it baby.. God, thank you so much for choosing me,” he whispered showering me with kisses as I relaxed against him.
“I wanted you to be my first,” I gasped, starting to somewhat relax in spite of the pain. “Yea, that’s it, relax beautiful….Your Ro Ro's gotchu,” he whispered, filling me more and more with each thrust of his hips as I tried to breathe through the pain.
“Ro! It’s too much,” I cried pushing at his stomach as he went deeper kissing away my tears. “I know it seems that way baby, but I’m almost in. I promise it’s gon’ feel so good, move your hands.”
“Ro-”
“You trust me?” he asked gently kissing my forhead as I nodded “Then mov’em for me.”
I complied and with a snap of his hips, he bottomed out as I clawed at his back. “Roman! I feel so full, I – I can’t,” I gasps as Roman captured my lips in a passionate kiss.
“Yes, you can..Breathe….Just breathe sweetness,” he whispered against my lips surging forward, my pain suddenly becoming something more with each powerful thrust….
“Roman, faster,” I pleaded wrapping my legs around him. “Yea…..There she go, there’s my good girl,” he moaned as my hips moved against him. “You feel so good,” I cried as Roman buried his head in the crook of my neck.
“Fuck, I can’t wait to cum inside you, you feel so good… You gon’ let me cum inside you, baby?”
“Bear, please-”
“Answer me, Starr?” he groaned, even more turned on as my other pet name for him escaped my lips.
"God, yes!"
“Uh huh, you gon’ let your bear fill you up, I promise it’ll feel so good,” he rasped marking my neck as I clawed at his lower back and nipping at his shoulder as he properly dicked me down.
“Fuck I want to cum inside you so bad..Tell me I can again," he moaned angling his hips taking me by surprise.
“Yes, I want you to cum inside me,” I screamed, the new position and thrusts sending chills down my spine, making my toes curl.  Lifting one of my legs in the air with a firm grip on my heel Roman continued to rearrange my insides, lifting his head slightly to watch me.
Roman’s POV
“You’re such a good girl, Starr… Savin’ this good ass pussy just for me, and you gon’ let me cum inside her. Just my good girl, ain’t you?”
“Mmhm, only your good girl,” she moaned, her words filling my heart with relief and love.
“Only my good girl…..Damn, I love how dat pussy creamin’ listen to that shit, she just purrin’ ready to squirt for me again.”
The squelching sounds, as I claimed her, along with our bodies colliding, filled the room. A blush suddenly crept onto Starr’s face as she listened and tried to bury her face in my neck as I praised her.
“I been waitin’ for this Starr…Let me see you, beautiful,” I moaned willing her eyes to mine as I bit my lip in anticipation and appreciation. Fuck, she looked and felt so good, I want to keep her this way forever. Up under me begging me to make dat pretty pussy cum again and again… Merry Christmas to me, indeed.
Fuck, why we waited so long to do this. And the fact that I am the first man to ever be be inside her makes my dick get even harder and I didn’t think that was possible.
She just doesn’t know what she’s done, we’re tied together forever now.
Starr’s POV
“I’m ruinin’ you for any man thinking he can have you cause’ he can’t.” Roman growled as our lips met in a sloppy kiss as our tongues battled for dominance with me finally surrendering in the end to his power.
“Dat pussy jus pulsin’ for me and suckin’ my dick back in, get it baby. Get dat nut...Sweet ass pussy, just coatin’ my dick,” he moaned, as I began to lose my grip on reality.
His words, his nasty words making me wetter as I writhed under him searching for my next release. “I know what you need…My sweet Starr needs to cum, don’t she?”
“Yes, I need it, Roman,” I begged as he bit his lower lip. His hair framing his beautiful face, looking like a real-life romance novel cover coming to life as he continued his delicious torture as I pulsed around him, helpless as he continuously brought me to the edge to only to pull back.
“Please let me cum,” I whined as his other hand went under my arm gripping my shoulder trapping me as he began to thrust harder and faster.
 “You ready baby?”
“Yes!.... I-I’m close!”
“I gotchu, just let it go, baby,” he encouraged in my ear releasing my leg and moving his hand between my thighs, stroking my sensitive throbbing clit, as his lips swallowed my cries of passion.
Feeling bold, I reached down and placed my hand on top of his moving his fingers faster against my clit as he growled feeling the spasms taking over my body.
We couldn’t stop; it was too hypnotizing as we both looked down watching his dick sink deeper and deeper inside me. “Cum for me, let it out Starr. Stop fighting it.”
“Mmh, here it comes…. Just for you,” I gasped beginning to squirt.
“Fuck yea..Squirt for bear,” Roman moaned pulling out, slapping his dick on my pussy before thrusting back in, taking me hard, fast and deep.
“Shit! I- I-” I cried out losing my train of thought gripping his ass, totally fucked out as I came undone again for him.
“Oh, fuck yea, give me it all…. Fuck, here it cum, just for you,” He groaned cummin’ in a violent rush, grinding his hips into mine, bowing his back prolonging our euphoria before collapsing beside me.
His breathing ragged as I my body continued to spasm in the aftermath.
“Fuck, you are dangerous, Starr,” Roman chuckled as I looked at him like he was crazy.
“No, your ass is dangerous,” I whispered blushing as we shared a gentle kiss, trying to come back down to earth.
“Thank you for tonight.” I whispered against his lips as he shook his head.
“No, thank you for choosing me.” And in that moment no other words were spoken i as we just wrapped ourselves up in each other and were just were us.
A little while later, Roman ran a bath and helped me clean-up, which I have to say was the most erotic thing I had ever experienced.  He washed me from head to toe, taking his time kissing and caressing my body.
This didn’t seem or feel like a one-time thing, but I was scared to ask, and I didn’t want to make it weird.
“You know I could have done this myself?” I whispered enjoying soaking in the warm water as he kissed my neck. “Not when you’re with me you won’t,” he said as I smiled. “Are you sore?”
“A little but the warm water is helping,” I said reassuring him I was ok. His alarm going off made us both sigh. “Santa duties are calling mister Reigns. You know if Uncle Roman doesn' have that barbie dream house  put together and waiting in front of the tree for Harmony it’s gonna be hell to pay.”
Every year, Roman goes over to his sister’s after the kids fall asleep to help put out their gifts and put their toys together. It's a tradition for them every Christmas and birthday.
“I know, but I hate to leave. I don’t want it to seem-”
“Roman, it’s ok I’m fine, I’ll see you later on today.” I wanted him to stay but I knew he needed to go. After sharing a gentle kiss, he stood up to leave.
“You sure you good,” he asked, stopping by the door.
“I’m good Roman, give Savannah and the kids my love.”
He seemed so torn about leaving, so I gave him a small smile. “Merry Christmas, bear,” I whispered as he smirked. It was almost as if he was remembering what had transpired tonight.
“Merry Christmas, Sweetness.”
“Roman!” I blushed as he shrugged his shoulders. “I told you that was gon’ be your new nickname from now on and I meant it.
“Don’t say it around people,” I hissed as he smiled. “Why not, only you and me will know what it means?”
“I know you…You’re gonna say it in a flirty way and Jey's gonna figure it out and run it in the ground.”
“So, what-”
“Roman!”
“Fine, I’ll try but I ain’t making no promises but seriously thank you for my Christmas present, sweetness.
“You’re welcome and thank you for um...”
“You don’t have to say anything baby girl…Just know this ain’t over between us, cause’ I’ll have you know; you were the best I’ve ever had, and I don’t plan on letting you go.” And with a deep groan, he left the room before I could respond.
“Well i guess there is my answer……Merry Christmas indeed Mr. Reigns, because I’m not letting you go either.”

CHAPTER PREVIEW:
Hmph-ing, Sarah unwinds herself from your arms and treads into the kitchen. It was a valiant effort, really. And it takes no small amount of diligence not to go over there and take his turn hugging you, too. Hugging hello—a thing you’ve never done, only goodbye. He considers it, even gets one foot nudging closer before he swallows the urge for good. Takes that one step back, leaves the space. Can’t trust himself not to hold you too long, he thinks. Can’t trust himself not to kiss you if you’re in his arms. With Sarah’s back turned, you meet his eye and shrug, mouth Good?  He nods. Grins softly at you, because yeah. He thinks it’s going just fine, so long as no one overhears the throb of his heart.

More Than Words
1. Familiar Stranger
Logan Howlett x OC!Reader
Series Summary: Having lived for over two hundred years and never having the privilege of skin to skin contact is the biggest burden imaginable, until someone comes along with the healing ability to withstand the touch of death.
Tumblr media
Chapter Warnings: This might be a lot for the start of a series but: mild language, canon typical violence, mention of a witch trial, burning at the stake, death, mutant experimentation, and a depressive episode briefly described. Logan's claws come out lol... I think that's it but let me know if I missed anything.
Chapter Summary: Nightmares that were long forgotten come crawling back, seemingly without meaning, until everything falls into place with the arrival of a familiar stranger... and he gets nightmares, too.
Word Count: 6.5k
And now there was this Logan character. “Bulletproof, huh?” he didn’t seem skeptical, just unimpressed.  “And fireproof,” you added with a small smile, turning and going down the hall to find the next open room. It was the one besides yours, and yes, you absolutely did that on purpose. “Forgive me for being forward… but I think I know you.” “You know me? Doubtful.”
The X gene -  typically found in people with mutant family history - begins showing itself around the time of adolescence, usually blossoming in young teenagers. You remember the first time you realized there was something wrong with you. The year was 1780.
You were only thirteen, and were showing signs of something no one could put a finger on. The first instance was doing laundry with your cousin, Sarah, and dipping your hands into the water the same time that she did. Her hands started to burn, and she pulled her fingers from the basin quickly, only to find her hands were fine, and the water wasn’t even that hot. You thought that maybe it was a fluke, but then the second occurrence took place.
You’d been playing near the lake with some of your friends on your twentieth birthday, when a bolt of lightning struck you. Your friends gathered nearby to see if you were alright, but were baffled completely to find you standing there as if nothing had happened.
That was the day that time stopped, and you never grew older.
These were things that told you there was a difference within you, but you never knew how lethal it actually was until it reached its full potential. You only wish you’d been given a warning.
The day it all went for worse, and your life became hell, was actually a very sunny day. You woke up the same, got dressed the same, even went out back to milk the cow… but the second you touched her, she fell limp, collapsing to the ground. Your eyes widened in terror when you realized the lovely farm animal had lost her life in that split second, unable to move, or breath.
You ran back inside to tell your mother, but you were not careful, because how could you have known it was your fault? How could you have known your body was capable of this?
Your mother laid a hand on your shoulder to comfort you, and you brought your hand to meet hers. She too fell instantly, and it was then that you realized.
Your touch is death.
You clung to your mother, the last person you were able to touch, crying and wailing out.
That was the first of your crimes, but many men made the mistake of coming into contact with you that day, and it stands to reason why you have been sentenced to death. Witchcraft being their assumption on your methods, and mass murder being the charge.
You almost believed them. Almost thought that something evil was possessing you, making you do wicked and unholy things…
Standing tied to the stake by a man with thick leather gloves, all eyes were on you, waiting for your atonement. You saw every torch that was burning, closing your eyes and accepting the punishment. You killed your mother, and eleven men. There were enough witnesses to send you straight to your grave. You waited for the flames, and felt the heat when they finally set the fires, quickly approaching you. When your eyes opened, you could see the wall of fire over the hay bales, nearly ten feet tall and at every corner. It crawled up by you and then-
You sat up in your bed, sweat dripping from your brow, and the digital alarm clock going off in your peripheral vision.
It’s just another dream… but you haven’t had it in years.
You treat it like the rest, going about your morning like it never happened. You’d discuss it with Charles later, he seemed to know what your nightmares meant most of the time. He knew your mind better than most, and could enter with a single thought.
Downstairs, the commotion was rowdy, but you went ahead through the crowded space carefully and slipped on your favorite pair of forest green gloves, buckling the cute straps on the back as you made your way to the kitchen. Ororo had just brewed some coffee, and Scott was carrying two plates towards the doorway when you entered.
“Smells good,” you said, smiling at them both, and going for a mug from the cabinet.
Scott stopped short, turning on his heel to ask you a question.
“I forgot about this yesterday,” he started, looking over in your direction through his red shades. “Can you take a look at the School’s Enrollment system when you get a chance? I couldn’t add a new student and I’m not sure why.”
You nodded, pouring the coffee and giving him a look of confidence. “I’m sure I can fix it, probably just the computer again.”
“Thanks,” he smiled, going to leave again, but then remembering one more thing. “Oh, and Jean loves that book you lent her, she’s been up late reading.”
“I knew she would… if she wants anything else, my library is always open,” you replied jokingly.
He left afterwards, taking his plate of breakfast and his wonderful girlfriend’s out of the room.
“You do too much, y’know?”
You looked at Ororo, her eyes just barely peeking over her own mug.
“I like to keep busy,” you shrugged, taking a sip of the coffee and finally letting yourself settle into the morning. “And it’s not too much if I can help you guys.”
“You know that’s not what I mean… you’ve been looking exhausted.”
“Wow, thanks.”
“I’m not being critical, I’m concerned,” she said, stepping to lean against the kitchen island so she could look at you straight on. “If there’s something going on, you can tell me.”
Yes, you could tell her. She and Jean were the closest thing you’d had to a sister in years.
“The nightmares are back again… the last few nights have been a little rough.”
She pushed away from the counter, the look on her face reading confusion and worry. “I thought you were doing better.”
“I was,” you drank more coffee, eyebrows raised. “I don’t even know where they’re coming from. Some of these dreams I haven’t had for over fifty years. Usually they’re only about…”
“Charlie,” she finished for you when you trailed off. You nodded, your head falling forward a bit at the mention of his name. You hadn’t dreamt of him for a while, not even good things.
“I need to visit the professor after class, he can usually tell me what’s going on.”
“It’s probably best. Those dark circles will only get worse, believe me,” she joked, gesturing to her own eyes, a bit worn with exhaustion from working late this week.
“I’ll let you know how it goes,” you spoke with a small grin, finishing off your coffee in a big chug before rinsing the mug out in the sink. “Have a good class.”
“You, too.”
-
Looking out the window of Professor Xaiver’s office, you recalled the events of your nightmare, trying to put yourself back in the situation to see it clearly. It wasn’t easy, to relive these memories, even worse when they plagued your unconscious state… but Charles would know what it was about. He always did.
“Tell me again, first the cow, and then your mother?” He squinted, trying to put pieces together.
“Yes, I went out to milk the cow in the morning, like always,” you paused, the green grass outside the mansion reminding you of the pastures you lived by. “I touched betsy first, then my mother inside the house.”
All the little details should have painted a very vivid picture, but for some odd reason, nothing was coming together for Charles. He couldn’t see how this dream equated with your life as it was, and why it plagued you now.
“I’m sorry to say it, my dear, but this may just be a regular nightmare. I cannot, from what you have told me, recognize any pattern or significance.”
“There has to be something… I haven’t had this dream in years,” you argued, unwilling to give up when you know he’s the only one who can tell you.
He paused, closing his eyes and raking through the files of your mind to try and feel the impact of a cause… but found none. “I’m afraid the only thing I can offer is a theory. Your mind is subconsciously reminding you of your powers, what they mean. You’ve long since learned to control them, so I cannot imagine it is because of self doubt. Whatever it is, you may just have to wait and watch for more signs.”
“More signs? Like more dreams?”
“Something of that sort, yes. Until then, I’m sorry I could not help you.” He rolled his chair towards the door, following you out and into the hall. He had a meeting with Hank, and couldn’t afford to miss it.
“It’s not your fault… I’m the one who should be sorry. I’m always annoying you with problems that don’t have anything to do with you,” you joked slightly, walking alongside him until he met his destination.”
“And I am always happy to assist you.”
“I know,” you ducked your head, stopping at the door way he entered. “But I am grateful.”
“Take that gratuity and focus it on yourself. You need to rest, you look like a raccoon.”
You chuckled, closing the door for the man, and walking down towards the kitchen again. You only needed a small pick me up before you would inevitably take a very long nap. You’d been going on a few hours of sleep each night due to the grading of homework, and the bad dreams only made the nights worse. You were somehow thankful not to wake up screaming before your alarm went off this morning.
You headed upstairs to crash, only to find a note in your room from Jean.
Thanks for the book, I finished it today… gonna need the next one soon. - J
A small smile spread across your face when you saw the book had already been put back on your shelf, neatly placed among the organization you normally kept it in.
Your bookshelf spanned an entire wall, nearly becoming like a second library to the mansion for whosoever needed it.
You didn’t necessarily love reading, but you did love knowledge, and books were one of the only ways to obtain such a tricky thing.
Truth be told, you didn’t like a lot of learning methods, but again, you craved to know everything you could, to be not only educated but able to have a brain that could stand the tests of time. So far, it’s done a pretty decent job. Having been alive for over two hundred and thirty years came with some perks, one being, you can go to college as many times as you want, with only a different ID, and practically nothing can stop you from earning as many degrees as your heart desires.
When Charles first met you, he knew you were a mutant, but more than that, he knew you had the aptitude of a scholar. It was no wonder you excelled in his training. If only you just attained his powers of neurological exploration, there would be no stopping you.
You flopped backwards on the bed, looking up to your wall of diplomas and degrees. Master’s in Technological Sciences, Bachelor’s in Archival History, a silly little Associate's in Music Theory, mainly because you were feeling artistic, and lastly, the certification for practicing Law in the state of New York. You didn’t even go to law school, you’d just been bored for a while in the seventies, and the bar wasn’t that hard to pass for someone that’s been around since the first laws were written into the constitution.
All these degrees, all these years of mastering different types of knowledge, and yet you felt completely in the dark about your own mental state. You couldn’t even figure out what your own dreams meant, or why they were back in the first place.
You passed out cold while raking your mind for possibilities, finding none along the way.
It was a dreamless sleep this time, and for that you’d be grateful, earning some uninterrupted rest for the first time in weeks, not having to worry about waking up in a panicked sweat again.
You were supposed to take a thirty minute cat nap… maybe an hour at most. Looking at the clock as you came to, it was 6 pm, meaning two and a half hours had come and gone, and you had missed much of the after school activities..
“Shit,” you muttered to yourself, climbing out of the sheets and running to the bathroom to become a bit more human looking.
You'd run down the stairs to find the usual amount of commotion, but none of the adults were here, just the kids.
“Bobby?” You asked, making him halt his walk towards the next corridor. “Do you know where everyone is?”
“They left about a half hour ago. Something came up,” he turned to leave but stopped throwing a line over his shoulder. “Almost forgot… they left you in charge.”
“Great,” you mumbled, nodding to him in thanks for the information.
You were fine dealing with the kids, but being the sole adult present in a room full of on edge teenagers put you under some stress. The one person in this entire mansion that could kill someone with a single touch was left responsible for the safety of these younglings? It was a bad idea to begin with, but you took a deep breath, knowing you had to until they were back.
You only wondered what happened that they were gone so quickly, without a chance to tell you themselves.
The only way to control a mutant child is to just not even try, so with knowing you were now heading the household until everyone returned, you decided to just go and kick back in the main entertainment room. The more authority is pushed, the more the kids would resist. So you didn’t push at all, just started a game of uno with some of the kids.
“This isn’t that serious, just lay down a card!” John scolded the younger girl beside him, watching her shuffle through practically half the deck that she had in her hands.
“I have them organized, I’m looking for the blues,” Kitty explained, ignoring his futile attempts at winning faster. “If I’m gonna lose, I’m gonna take my time.”
“If you had a four or any color, that would have worked, too,” you shrugged, but ultimately let her keep shuffling through until she found a card she was satisfied with.
“Aha, reverse. And I know you just played your last blue card,” she mocked John, watching him roll his eyes and begin to draw new cards.
You laughed and little, seeing his deck grow bigger until he found a blue one.
“Well, that’s uno for me,” you said, laying down a blue five and waiting for it to circle back to you again. “Sorry, John.”
“Kitty I swear, change the color,” he begged, hoping there was something that could salvage the game for him. “She’s gonna win if you don’t.”
“I’d rather let her win, then we can start over,” she gestured to the large amount of cards in her hand, completely stacked with practically every color of the deck.
“Don’t be so competitive, it’s just uno,” you laughed, trying to lighten his mood over such a silly thing.
“It’s not just uno, you win at everything…” he trailed matter of factly, giving you a slanted look through his eyebrows. “It’s impossible.”
“I’ve been around a while longer than you have, maybe I’ve just picked up some tricks.”
“With uno?” He scoffed, finally coming to his senses and laughing a little.
“Maybe,” you smirk, laying down your last card and going out. “But there’s another game for ya.”
“Like I said, impossible.”
You smiled, watching them throw their hands into the pile so you could reshuffle and deal again. This may or may not have been the third game in a row. And yes, you tended to be good at the other board games kept in the entertainment room’s cabinets.
“Wanna go four for four.?” You asked, already knowing they would play with you, though you beat them every time.
But then you could feel something in the air, a tension that was coming from outside somewhere. You wondered if it could be a possible intrusion, so you stood up and looked out the window, the sun completely down by now.
“What’s wrong?” Kitty asked, standing up alongside you to try and figure out what you sensed.
It was growing, more anxious, and you realized then that it wasn’t an intruder at all, because the anxious energy was radiating off of familiar presences.
“Something happened,” you rushed to the back door, watching as the jet landed, sinking back into the earth where it usually came up from. The basketball court  closed over top of it, and you could see the trees and grass and bushes become still when the winds calmed down. “You’ll have to play this round without me.”
“What happened? Where did they go?”
“I don’t know, let me find out. Make sure no one burns the house down, I’ll be back.”
And you rushed to the elevator, going down beneath the mansion to find the X central base. You heard the commotion as soon as you stepped off, all things pointing to the medical bay at the end of the long lit stretch.
Your legs carried your faster than they normally would, getting you there in seconds.
“Scott?” you called as soon as you saw him. “What’s going on?”
“Two new mutants, one in critical condition,” he began, pointing to the outline of a man on the surgical table, Jean doing her best to work on him with the help of Ororo on the side. “The other is with Charles, he’s trying to help her calm down, but she’s pretty shaken up.”
“Is there anything I can do?”
“Tell the kids, make sure they don’t panic?” he offered, and you nodded. You can’t touch anyone, so it was unlikely you could aid in either of their situations currently. “Maybe leave out the part where there’s a mutant in critical condition. We still don’t even know why they were attacked.”
“Was it a human group?” You asked, eyes flitting between both corners of the med bay. The chaos was still going on, everyone’s movements were rapid, and the girl in the corner was still crying in fear.
“No, it was them…”
“Oh,” you understood right away what he meant. Eric and his small gang of misfits that refused to coexist with the humans. They believed mutants were superior, and therefore should not have to conform to any nation’s rules or mandates. You partially understood them from a fear aspect, not wanting laws against mutants to be passed, or mistreatment of mutants for their abilities, but the way they go about it is always wrong, and harmful. They are clearly even willing to hurt other mutants to get what they want. “Are we any closer to finding them?”
“Nope,” he sighed, scrolling through the tablet in his hands and trying to find out if the tracker he placed actually amounted to anything. He would bet not, since the signal wasn’t even coming up. “Lost ‘em in the snow…”
“Snow?” You turned to him quickly, “where the hell did you guys go?”
“It’s a long story, you missed it when you were napping,” he partially joked, going back to his task. “I’ll fill you in later, just go make sure the kids know we’re fine.”
“Okay,” you nodded, turning on your heel and leaving. You didn’t run to the elevator this time, shaking off the feeling that something big was coming. You didn’t know what or why you felt it, but it was creeping up on you since you stepped off the elevator.
-
The next morning, the entire house was buzzing with the excitement of new recruits. You’d yet to meet them, but felt their energy in and around the house, coming and going from different rooms when you started to go about your day.
You knew that the time for introductions would come eventually, and likely when classes were over.
Everything had been nearly the same as the day before, except Scott didn’t have a computer problem that needed solving, so you actually got done with your other work pretty quickly. You went to get the mail that Hank always just left on the entryway table, trying to sort through so you could drop it off at each person’s individual rooms.
“Alice?”
“Yeah?” you mumbled without turning around, hearing Jean’s voice.
“I want to introduce you to some people. These are our new guests. Rogue, and Logan.”
You’d turned around during Jean’s introduction of the two new recruits, however short it was, like she needed to leave them with you. You understood this was a vital time for the team, and distractions weren’t welcome… but she’d only just now handed off said distraction, and boy was it one to behold. The girl was sweet looking, about fifteen if you had to guess, but the man? You look him over once and immediately you have a flash of deja vu. Dark hair, a soft grin, and pretty hazel eyes. He’s much taller than you, and you have to look up to meet his stare.
You smiled to them, giving a nod and placing your hands behind your back in the case they might want to shake one.
“Rogue has a mutation with similar effects to yours. If she touches someone for even a few seconds, they could die.”
You furrowed your brows when looked down at the sweet girl before you. What a sad thing to share with someone. You can see her whole life ahead of her, and the things she will have to endure just as you did, and it makes you feel compassion.
“I’m very sorry to hear that, I know how hard it can be,” you told her. She smiled and nodded this time, just as you did but in return. She seemed to be a shy thing, head dipping every so often to appear smaller than she was.
“Could you show them the open rooms? I’ve got to be back with Charles in a moment,” Jean rushed through, seemingly pressed for time. You were only all too happy to take them off her hands.
“Of course. Let me know what happens in there, will you?”
She nodded, squeezing your clothed shoulder before turning on her heel and heading down the corridor.
“So you’re like me?” Rogue asked, trying to make conversation now that she knew you had something in common.
“A bit, yeah,” you cocked your head in one direction, getting them to follow after you. “My body is made up of a few types of radioactive energy. One is regular matter, the other is anti-matter, but the third is something completely unknown to the human or mutant race.”
“How does it work?” She followed you up the stairs, and Logan did, too. He was listening, but didn’t give off the vibe that he was interested.
“Well, the instant I touch anyone, they die. The professor was the one who finally helped me learn to control the energy, though. Now I can use it to shield myself and others from dangerous attacks.”
“Attacks… you mean like guns and stuff? Are you bulletproof?!”
You smiled at her endless curiosity, boundless in asking questions that you barely even knew the answers to.
“Pretty much, yeah. Bulletproof, fireproof, everything really.”
“Whoa…” she trailed, and luckily, to stop the flow of questions, you turned down the hall and opened a door to an empty room.
“This one’s for you,” you smiled at her and let her walk through the doorway, almost immediately becoming more settled now that she had a place to stay. “Let me know if you need anything, I’m at the end of the hall.”
“Thank you.”
A smile, and a small dip of your head as you closed the door allowed her to relax.
“Forgive me for being forward… but I think I know you.”
“You know me? Doubtful.”
“No, I definitely know you,” you opened the door for him, but didn’t intend on leaving yet. You didn’t say anything in front of the girl, but the moments you turned around downstairs, you recognized him from somewhere. The downside of living for over two hundred years is that maybe you didn’t always remember people years down the line. “The question is, how did I meet you?”
“Look, doll… I only have the last fifteen years of my memory, and all I really know is that I’m not human, and I can’t die either,” he paused, taking a step closer, but keeping a safe enough distance as to not make contact with the previously mentioned radioactive skin. “But even if I remembered before that, you’re too young to have met me.”
“Young?” you raised your eyebrows, not to mock or belittle him, but just shocked he would make such an assumption, especially knowing the school that he’s at right now.
“Yeah, young. What are you, nineteen?”
“Two hundred and thirty three this year,” you answered with a dull expression of normalcy.
For a minute, he didn’t know if you were being serious, but upon searching your face for more indications, he found nothing that told him otherwise.
“Really…” he reacted skeptical this time. “Got an ID?”
The joke was mildly entertaining, but if what he said was true, he wouldn't be able to tell you when or how you met. It was a dead end, and there were much more pressing matters downstairs.
“Let me know if you need anything. That's my door,” you pointed to the one beside his, and he nodded with a smirk. You absolutely did that on purpose.
“Will do.”
He didn’t bother you the rest of the evening, but you kind of wish he had…
-
Your cell was cold and binding, your claustrophobic tendencies getting worse with every day you spent here. Your body was broken, your legs crumbling beneath you whenever you would try to stand.
There was nothing you could do to help the pain, your energy was depleted from everything they took out of you, and you couldn’t even summon the strength to shield them if they come again. You know you'll die. The next time they come, opening your cage and dragging you through the halls in their self righteous futuristic looking uniforms. They always scoffed at your mistreatment. Mutants were the scum of the earth, and by torturing you and your kind, they thought they were doing mankind a favor.
The sirens that suddenly blared in your ears brought about a sense of danger that hadn’t ever settled in the cell block before. Something that was foreign and unknown. This had never happened before. It was always silent as mutants were taken and used for their abilities, experiments falling over most of them.
You thought that maybe the government had finally gotten ahold of Striker and his plans, ready to shut down the program and finish the job. Humans these days hated anything that was different from them, most of all the mutant race.
You braced yourself, curling into the corner of the cage and closing your eyes. It would come any minute now. The blow of death while you were unable to shield yourself.
You heard the cage squeak on its hinges, but there was no blow of death, only kind words from someone you've never met.
“C'mon, get up… we're getting you out,” he said, pulling you from your feared bracing and making your eyes shoot open. Your arms and legs were bare in the clothes they gave you, meaning your skin was open to be touched.
He grabbed at your arm, and you couldn’t even stop him… but he didn't fall, he continued to help you up, shouldering you out of the cell and onto your own two feet. By now the adrenaline kicked in, and you were able to walk through the pain, knowing this was your only shot to be free.
“Who are you?” You asked in wonder. You met his eyes, and they were the most beautiful you think you've seen. Hazel, with gold in the middle.
“Just someone that wants to help,” he said, letting you fend on your own now that he could feel your legs carrying you on their own. He went to help more, and you had to try and shake him from your mind just for the moment. There would come a time when you could ask questions, but now was for you to run.
You caught up with one of the groups heading for the exit, and came across a few guards. You wondered if you even had your power anymore. That man, he touched you and survived. That's never happened before. Your skin is death, and no one escapes the reaper…
You touched one of the guards with your open flesh and he instantly died upon contact. And that could only mean one thing. The mutant who was saving everyone was immune to your powers, and nobody else was.
You have to find this man, but going back would almost mean certain doom for you, and you can't bring yourself to die yet. There's more life left to live.
Once you escape the bunker, coming outside to a clearing, there waits a man in a wheelchair, rolling down from a hovering jet… and you know that jet. It belongs to-
“Charles?” You murmur, and within an instant, he was back in your head for the first time in over ten years. “Is it really you?”
“It's really me. I must look different than last time we met,” he smirked, handing you a pair of gloves and letting you lean on his chair to walk up the ramp. The others followed, and then the jet took off, no time to waste. “But you haven't changed at all.”
You collapsed into the seat closest to you, and then -
You sprung up from your pillows.
This nightmare wasn't even a nightmare. It was still a memory, but not a bad one. It was something you tried to forget, but of course there was a single detail that could not be wiped from your memory if you tried.
Logan.
He's the man that saved your life all those years ago. And more than that, he's the only person in the world you've met for over two hundred years that can touch you.
It’s late, and when you turn to find that your clock says three in the morning, you hesitate… but things like this never happen, so your ability to wait until the sun at least rises is completely destroyed. You throw the sheets and comforter off your bed, and forget modesty in your haste. Wearing only the tiniest shorts from your dresser and the only clean shirt on hand, you made a quick trek from your room to the one next door.
Knocking was out of the question, obviously. He’d be asleep, right?
When you barged in, he seemed to be having the same conundrum as you only a few minutes ago. His brows were furrowed, his mouth twisted in a look of something painful. Perhaps the very reason you were awoken from your slumber was to assist him with his… or maybe you were delusional and needed to go back to your room.
“Logan?” you approached gently, sitting on the edge of the bed and reaching out for him. You wanted to calm him down if you could, he looked so scared in whatever dream he was having.
He startled awake with lightning speed, his reactive senses making him sit straight up in bed, claws out and ready to attack. You yelped and fell off the bed, leaving a loud thunk on the ground. The amount of terror rushing through you suddenly left for the oddest reason.
Looking down, your arm had been cut in three parallel lines. Not deep enough to severely wound you, but enough that you could feel the sting, and see the blood rising to the surface of the skin. You didn’t think you could bleed.
“Alice?” He calmed down, immediately worried over what he’d done. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t-”
“It’s okay,” you looked up at him, a look of utter joy on your face and he had no idea why. His confusion soared even more when instead of running from him you pulled yourself back up onto his bed, leaning closer.
“Are you… alright? What’s going on?”
“I remembered you. Where I met you,” you explained, getting even closer and making him nervous, considering your specific mutation he’s heard so much about. You completely forgot about your arm, leaving it for later.
“Where?”
He was eager to remember anything about his past before the blank space. He wanted badly to know where he comes from, and if you had anything to do with how he got here. He knows it’s probably a slim chance, since you had to try hard to remember him upon his arrival.
You closed the gap and reached your hand out to his arm, and he flinched away. “Are you crazy? You could kill me.”
“No, I can’t,” you told him, watching his eyes as you finally reached again and touched his skin. He didn’t drop dead, or have any other side effects for that matter, and you breathed out in relief, a smile spreading across your face.
He was again confused, and more so shocked. His features couldn’t comprehend how this was happening if what everyone said was true. You’d killed people even accidently with the brush of an elbow, so how is he still living and breathing, your hand on his forearm?
“How did you know?” He wondered, his full focus now on what you could tell him.
“Does the name William Striker ring a bell?” You squinted, knowing it was a longshot, but hoping he might know, anyway.
“It sounds familiar, but I don’t recall a face or a history to go with it.”
“He gave you these,” you reached for his other hand, claws still drawn from his nightmare. “And he gave me these…”
You gestured to the scars on your legs and raised your shirt slightly so he could see the ones on your torso. All healed over by now but still reasonably protruding if you stare at them too long.
“He’d held so many mutants captive, but you set us free,” you watched as his claws retracted back into his skin, and then you took his unclenched hand. “You saved my life.”
“I don’t think that was me,” he shook his head. He doesn’t remember who he was, but he knows who he is now, and it couldn’t be that far from his past self… yet you spoke of him as though he were some caped figure with an agenda for fighting bad guys. “I don’t do things like that.”
“Logan,” you huffed, unwilling to let him negate himself, especially when you’ve waited all these years to talk to him again, to give him the gratitude you felt he deserved. “I have been alive for over two hundred years. During that time I have been all over the world, met as many mutants as there are stars in the sky… and not one could touch me, until you. I know it was you who saved me.”
“I’m no hero, kid…” he shook his head, his eyes falling to the cuts on your arm, the blood getting thicker and threatening to run down the expanse of your arm and onto your shirt.
“You were to me,” you smiled sweetly. “You saved my life that day… and so many other mutants. Scott being one of them, he just doesn’t remember.”
“I saved Scott?” he cringed, and you laughed, having gotten notes of their instant rivalry in the energy around the mansion.
“Yes, you did… and I never got to thank you for it, so… thank you.”
He nodded, still unsure of this past exchange and how much he had to do with it. You clearly remembered being helped by him. Enough so that you were willing to bet his life on whether or not he could touch you. He feels bad, now, seeing the red begin to run down your arm, he certainly doesn’t feel like a hero, and his actions don’t show him being one, either… but he can do something about that.
“Can I help you with that?” He pointed to the bloody open wound, which had been ignored until now.
“I’ll take care of it, it’s not too bad.”
“No, I wanna do it… I’m the one that put it there,” he sighed when he stood up from bed, going into the hall and finding the bathroom. He’d seen a first aid kit in there somewhere.
When he comes back he looks clueless on how to even open the box.
“It has a child lock on it, lemme see,” you reached, and he batted your hands away softly, figuring it out himself.
“I’m not a child,” he retorted dryly, reaching into the box and finding the proper supplies.
He did decently, you’d have to say. Started with the cleansing wipes, then moved on to the antibacterial treatment and gauze wraps. Finished it off with a good layer of medical tape, securing it with a soft movement of his hands. They looked rough, but had been nothing but gentle.
“You do this a lot?” You asked, wondering if perhaps it might trigger a memory.
“Not to myself, and not to anyone else I can remember.”
“Well you did a good job.”
He nodded in thanks, and you went to stand up. Going back to your room seemed like the thing to do, and you wanted to let him get back to sleep.
“You don’t have to go, if you don’t want to.” His words halted you in your step, making you sit back on the bed where you’d been since arriving, minus the brief trip to the floor. “I usually don’t sleep after…”
“Nightmares?” Your soft question had him giving a small dip of his head, slightly embarrassed. “I get 'em, too. Not usually so much as lately, but I get 'em.”
And when he reached for your hand, giving it a gentle squeeze, you had no longing to go back to bed. You’d stay up the rest of the night with this man to ensure he didn’t let go of you. It was here that you decided he could touch you for a reason, and you weren’t going to let it go to waste.

Whenever I imagine Snape and Anya's relationship I picture Anya being extremely clingy and Snape not being able to stand her presence anymore… Anya wants Snape to love her the same way she loves him, and she will do anything to make that happen.

Kaldur: On the count of three—
Sarah: Are you saying GO in the end? Because if that's the case it's after GO, not three.
Zakaria: Damn it, Sarah! Now is not the time for this!
Sarah: Look, I have to know when to be ready!
Yue: Uh, I'd also like to know if there's a GO in the end...
Zakaria: *pinches her nose and sighs*

Finally updated the intro to my account for Alice! For this I took advice and inspiration from a Tumblr Mutual of mine. I'd tag said tumblr mutual if I weren't mildly afraid that they'll think I'm cringe. But if you do see this, you know who you are! Thx for being silly!!
If any of you are interested in interacting with Alice, I refer you to this account! I'd be happy to use her more, as I am more active on Spirit's account in comparison thus leaving Alice in the mud most of the time. Send her some appreciation! She works hard occasionally tagging Spirit's posts! XD
Hello drifters and dreamers alike~
Care for a spot of tea?
Tumblr media
Welcome to my new and improved introduction post that will replace my original one! The old one is a tad outdated so I will be making some renovations around here! Sit down, get comfy! Familiarize yourself with my mind! A world of pure
Imagination
♥️
My name is unfortunately lost to the cruel, cruel grasps of my hollow psyche. Time is a thief, as they say! Nowadays people simply refer to me as Alice! I don't entirely know where the name came from, but it feels right! And perhaps that is all that matters within my dreamscape~
♠️
I am a second year student at Night Raven College! A humble resident of the Ramshackle dorm! But do not be fooled, I am no prefect. In this world, that is someone completely different outside of me! Everyone is a main character in their own story, but the story I aide in is Comet's ( @starcrossedmoonlet ) and I wouldn't have it any other way ^^
♦️
I hate to be a bother and I sure don't wanna send my dorm into a loop! So to get to me, we shall be talking in what I like to call the
Dreamscape!
If it isn't clear already, I am not from this world! I am a glitch in the system, an anomaly, but I am no human, despite what looks might entail! My magic works somewhat akin to what your average person would call a lucid dream, Shifting and chaotic in nature! That might sound a tad OP to the average onlooker, and it sometimes is! But fear not, for I am still trying to learn how to control it! The consequences of my peculiar power follow me like a lost girl in the woods! In other words, I know my limits. Gotta keep this fun for every smiling face that may just be a hop skip and a jump away!
♣️
Now then! With that said, it's about time you say hello to the lingering dreamer who whispers in my ear! It is she who shall fill you all in on the rules!
Go ahead and take a leap of faith through the looking glass! I'll meet you again on the other side~
Tumblr media
Hello! The puppet master speaking! I may go by many other titles in other places, but here you shall simply know me as "Dreamer Admin."
Let's get into the rules now. It's best not to keep Alice waiting.
Know your manners. Alice doesn't really appreciate the bad eggs that may approach with unwanted hate speech! I block out all of the unwanted voices before they make contact with her. Treat her the way you want to be treated and the two of you shall get along nicely.
Dreamer Admin (me) is indeed over 18! However, Alice does not remember her approximate age, only that she should logically still be a teenager. And while logic is rather twisted within the dreamscape, I implore you to be mindful of your words and to not send her explicit messages through the looking glass! Cursing is allowed, but I can promise you that nobody involved in this blog wants to hear about the gutter you lost your head in. That is not what the Dreamscape is for! Keep it PG for the younger eyes that may linger!
This is an incredibly small blog that is for an oc rather than a canon twst character. So therefore, Alice doesn't really get a lot of visitors! As a result, the ones who do visit may not have their messages answered right away. Mainly because I as the Dreamer tend to drift away from the Dreamscape and turn my attention towards other things. Even dreamers have lives of their own in the waking world! In other words, be patient and don't spam, okay?
While NSFW is banned, attempting to romance Alice is not out of the realms of what I will allow to reach her. So long as the drifter you send her is around her age range and you as the dreamer come to me in advance and make sure that I'm okay and comfortable with developing a plot like that with your drifter, then by all means roll for Charisma! Alice is polyamorous, so suitors don't have to be limited to just one drifter. She can give her glitchy heart to many drifters! Don't force it, be patient, and we'll have a ball!
Speaking of other drifters! Fellow ocs are allowed and encouraged! If you would like, although you don't have to, you can send me a summary of your drifter and I will read through it and try to memorize it for future reference when I send Alice to interact with your Drifter! I often don't have much of the energy to scroll through your blogs. So while this isn't required, it is appreciated to make things easier on both me and Alice. But in general, she would love to make some new friends!
Respect boundaries! If Alice or me specifies that a certain action or sentence makes us uncomfortable and would not like to continue with that plot, please take that answer and don't push it! You didn't hear this from me, but Alice tries really hard to get along with you drifters, even if she tends to come on too strong or make very little sense. She knows when to stop when you tell her to, so it would be appreciated that you offer her the same courtesy when she asks that of you as well. No matter the logistics of her humanity, that doesn't make her any less of a person.
Questions regarding Alice's amnesia are allowed in theory, but please be gentle about it! The more Alice thinks about the memories she's missed out on, the more it damages her. While it's not as hard of a topic for me, approach this with the fact that amnesia is a very VERY touchy subject for her in mind. She's still picking up the broken pieces of her sense of self. The most you can do is lend her an extra yet careful hand or three.
Have fun! Our favorite interactions are the silly ones! It brightens her day to see someone who can step out of the mundane with her and unapologetically embrace her chaos. In a way, this whimsy is the very thing that grounds her. When she says that nonsense is her normal, by the sevens does she mean it.
And with that, those are all of the rules I have for you! If I think of any more, I'll be sure to add it in later on.
Oh, and before I forget, here are some of her tags and what they entail:
#Shitposts with Alice <33 - Exactly as the title says. These are literally just her shitposts.
#Whimsy replies - Replying to a repost, be it from her own post or someone else's.
#Tales from the Dreamscape! - Storytime textposts and general rambling.
#Tea time <33 - Responding to the things in her inbox.
#Twst Alice - Posts with Drifter Alice. This tag will be on most posts.
#Twst oc - Self explanatory.
#Twisted Wonderland - Self explanatory.
#Rp blog - Self explanatory.
#🌘 Admin - Posts from yours truly.
#Ooc// [N/A] - Tags from yours truly that Alice cannot see.
#[N/A] anon - Posts interacting with specific anons. I feel it's better to leave it at that rather than to write down individuals I may or may not end up getting.
#Unmarked anon - Posts interacting with an anon that chooses not to identify themself with an emoji.
#📱 post - Post that is formatted like a text conversation.
#🗣 post - Post that is formatted like a verbal in-person conversation.
Same with the rules, I'll edit the tag section if I see fit.
With that said, you are prepared to return to the Dreamscape for Alice to say her final messages before this intro post comes to a close. Step back through the looking glass, someone is waiting for you.

I really really hope that you enjoy your time here, and that you'll visit me again! Pretty please? 🥺

Honey Do List - Dr. James Wilson
Pairing: Dr. James Wilson x Fem!OC
Summary: Wilson learns what a “honey do list” is and worries about why Odette hasn’t given him one.
Author’s Note: This was a minor blurb I had saved for a bit.
Tumblr media
NOT MY GIF
“Wilson, weigh in on something for us.”
Wilson lowered the newspaper in his hands. While he wished he’d stayed in his office rather than go to the lounge, he was intrigued. “Yeah?”
“What’s on your wife’s honey-do list for you?” Dr. Bennett asked.
Wilson furrowed his eyebrows and leaned up in the chair. “A what?”
“A honey-do list,” Dr. Prentiss said. “You know, that list of chores and repairs and shit she wants you to do around the house?”
Wilson thought for a moment. The last thing Odette asked him for was to pick up more creamer and that was this morning. Did that count?
He shook his head. “I don’t think she has one for me.”
Dr. Prentiss’ eyes widened. “Are you serious?”
“You’re the luckiest son of a bitch I know,” Dr. Bennett chuckled.
Wilson smiled, yet lucky wasn’t on the list of things he was currently feeling.
===================================
“Should I be worried that Odette hasn’t come up with a list?”
Cuddy blinked. “Is this a serious question you’re asking me?”
Wilson paced her office, scratching the back of his neck. “I keep racking my brain and I can’t think of a time she’s asked me to do something around the house.” He stopped, his face softening. “Is she mad at me?”
“No, she’s not mad at you. Just ask her when you get home.”
“Does she not think I can handle doing stuff around the house?”
Cuddy made a face. “You never struck me as the handyman type.”
“I’m great at cleaning. I know how to deep clean like a professional.”
“That’s not really…you know what, call and ask her.”
He stopped pacing. “I’ll be right back.”
====================================
The second the elevator doors opened to her floor, Wilson hurried to the front desk, flustering Becca, the young receptionist.
“Dr. Wilson! What a-.”
“Is Odette with a client?”
“No-.”
Wilson ran into the hallway and opened Odette’s office door. His wife yelped at his sudden appearance.
“Jesus Chr- Wilson!” she scolded.
“I need to talk to you.”
Odette’s face softened as she took in the fear in her husband’s eyes. “Honey, what’s wrong? Did something happen at work?”
He started pacing her office. “No…well yes…I mean, technically yes-.”
She took his hands in hers, stopping him from moving. “Deep breaths.”
Wilson inhaled and exhaled, the bergamot scent of her office delighting his sense. He watched her hands move to his face, caressing his cheeks lovingly.
“Hi,” she whispered.
He couldn’t help but smile. Only she could ever center him in his world of chaos. “Hi, honey.”
“What happened at work that’s got you upset?”
The reminder made him pout. Just when he considered running out, he realized he’d made the trip and he might as well not waste any more of his - possibly her - time.
“Do you have a honey do list?”
She tilted her head. “A honey do list?”
“Yeah it’s a list of-.”
“I know what it is.” She gave him a small, understand smile. “What do you mean do I have one?”
“Do you have a list of chores or things you need me to do around the place?”
She shook her head, baffling Wilson. “There’s nothing you need me to do around the condo?” he asked. “Nothing at all?”
“We have our chores that we take care of and we make sure Sarah’s set with her meds, food, and litter,” she responded with a shrug. “What else is there?”
“Clearly not much else if you don’t have a list for me.”
She pulled her lips back. “Why does it bug you that I don’t have a honey do list for you?”
“I just want you to feel like you can depend on me.” He took her hands off his face and held them in his. He could feel her wedding and engagement ring which made the next words to come out of his mouth taste of vinegar. “I wasn’t that kind of husband in my last two marriages. I don’t want to repeat that with you.”
Just as he opened his mouth to apologize, a reassuring smile formed on Odette’s lips. She pulled her hands back and threw her arms around his neck.
“I don’t need you to do anything except love me and Sarah and take good care of yourself,” she said. “That’s it. That’s the honey do list. Ok?”
“Ok,” he agreed, leaning in to kiss her.
His lips touched hers and suddenly, his nerves and fears washed away. He forgot about this list, about his previous failures, and savored in the softness of her lips.

STARCROSSED ( Charles Leclerc x Oc)
Tumblr media
PREVIOUS CHAPTER NEXT CHAPTER
MASTERLIST
Summary: It really takes a village pt1
FACECLAIM: The extraordinary Tems
THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION. THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE CHARACTERS DOES NOT REFLECT THE REAL PERSONALITIES OF THE INDIVIDUAL UPON WHOM THEY ARE BASED. I AM MERELY BORROWING THEIR PHYSICAL LIKENESS AND THE PROFESSION THEY HAVE FOR THE SAKE OF THIS NARRATIVE
TW: Cringiness from the writer, grammatical errors (have mercy english is my semi firsr language)
Monte Carlo, Monaco
It was a quiet night, the sky an inky velvet blanket shined with stars, the streets nearly deserted. The gentle hum of the sea lapping against the harbor could barely be heard through the open window of Charles Leclerc’s apartment. Charles was slumped on his couch, and his mother Pascale sat beside him, she was the only anchor of peace he had at the moment.
For a while they remained silent, the silence was not as comforting as it usually was.
Pascale knew her son, his way of thinking and problem solving, but clearly at the moment her son was feeling suffocated by his own thoughts.
“ Charles” her voice was soft, she placed her hand gently on his hand, rubbing in a slow comforting circle.
“ You don’t need to say anything, remember I’m always hear”
He raised his head, his eyes read and glossy.  He blinked, taking in the familiar faces of his mother, he deeply exhaled he was finally safe at home.
“ Maman it hurts” he said, his voice almost inaudible “ I thought that she..” his voice shaked, the sentence trailing off as a fresh wave of pain hit him.
She continued to try to console the young man, looking at him with compassion. Charles’ eyes sparkled everytime when he was talking about Leah, everybody could see that the driver was in love. Obviously in all relationships there was some up and down, but with more time passed, more problems were showing up.
“ You really loved her didn’t you?” she asked
Charles softly nodded, “ I did……I thought we were something special and deep, we promised each other that we would be there for each other, in any situation"
“ Did you think she was the one Charles?” she asked, the room was silent one more time. She carefully stared at him, while he was trying to force words out of his mouth, but nothing came out, he didn’t have an answer.
“ It’s alright if you don’t know” shesaid, her voice filled with love.
Charles swallowed hard “ I really thought she was the one Maman” his voice was croaky “After all this I don’t know…. how can I ?” he rubbed his face confused
“ I still can’t believe, I didn’t expect it, yes I’ve busy….” he sighed “ her best friend’s boyfriend, how can she be the one I fell in love?” he said astonished.
“ Charles you loved her, of course you trusted her, but unfortunately sometimes the people we love the most are the one who hurt us”
Charles leaned into his mother’s embrace, resting his head on her shoulder, he didn’t say anything else for a long time.
"Do you think I’ll ever find someone who’s really… the one?" he asked eventually, his voice laced with uncertainty.
Pascale smiled softly, pressing a kiss to his temple. "You will. But you don’t need to rush it, Charles. Love will come when it’s meant to. And when it does, you’ll know. Truly know."
Charles closed his eyes, letting her words settle into his heart, allowing himself the small comfort they brought. He didn’t have all the answers right now, and maybe that was okay.
Maybe healing didn’t come from having everything figured out, but from the quiet moments of support, the love that never wavered, even when everything else did.

guy next door | joel miller x oc (angie reed) | chapter I
Tumblr media
ao3 | masterlist
summary: During the summer of 2003, Angie had recently moved into her parent’s new home in Austin at their guest house to have a fresh start after a nasty break up with her fiancé. Her new neighbor, Joel Miller, is more than happy to make her feel welcome to the neighborhood. pairing: joel miller x female oc (angie reed) tags: fluff, long fic, romance, slight angst eventually, oc has no physical description, oc is early 20s joel is late 20s, eventual smut, slow burn, mentions of infidelity, no outbreak au!, 2003 au!, soft joel, good daddy joel, sarah going into her teenage dirtbag phase, trust issues, domestic fluff, protective joel, eventual sex, w.c: 5.6k a.n.: so i’ve post it before but somethings were really shitty and i figured i needed to change somethings in my writing. i really hope you guys like it as much as i liked writing it. likes, comments and reblogs are not mandatory but very appreciated! 💖
“Shit…” Sarah stared at herself in the mirror, eyes wide with shock. It had happened. She bit her lip, trying desperately to think of a plan, but her mind was blank. There, on the back of her white shorts, was a red stain, impossible to ignore, especially as she was getting ready for a neighbor’s pool party. She was alone, with her dad and uncle likely out grabbing beers somewhere before the evening feast they were all supposed to attend. But even if they’d been there, Joel and Tommy would have been of no help in this situation at all.
Sarah sank onto the bathroom floor, clutching her stomach as she started to cry in confusion and a certain desperation. She had no mother to explain exactly what periods were, which pads to wear or simply comfort her in this experience. The cramps twisted hard in her abdomen, and waves of panic surged over her. Glancing back at the mirror, she put her hands over her face, already feeling defeated as she looked for some practical way to cover the growing stain. In a flash of impulse, she grabbed an old sweater from her laundry basket, tying it around her waist.
Peeking out the window, Sarah spotted a young woman across the street, carrying some boxes in front of the guest house inside the property, next to the main house. The woman looked alone and with luck, she might be kind enough to help. Sarah took a shaky breath and headed out, trying to stomp confidently but having her body allowing her no more than a slow walk outside of the house, while the girl carried the last box upstairs to her home, closing the door without seeing Sarah.
Across the street, Angie wiped the sweat from her forehead, her messy bun barely containing her damp hair as she moved the last of the boxes inside. Her parents had bought this property in Austin to be closer to her during a rough patch and to settle into a quieter life in the suburbs. Today’s scorching Texas heat seemed almost punishing, making her feel as if this exhausting day would never end. Inside, hills of boxes and scattered bubble wrap covered every corner of her new home. All she wanted was a cold shower before unwinding and unpacking in peace.
This move to Austin was supposed to be a fresh start. Angie’s engagement had ended bitterly, shattering her dreams of a future with Trey. She’d pictured marriage, a family, a life together — until he drifted away, leaving her for someone else under the cheap excuse he had to focus on his engineering career. Her parents had been nothing but supportive, and when she finally agreed to their plan to move closer, they wasted no time making it happen, but still threw some words along the line of ‘he’ll fall in line soon and will ask you back’, Angie, however, seemed determined to let Trey go once and for all. Now, standing amid all these boxes, Angie reminded herself that maybe, just maybe, this change would be good.
She let the cool water from the shower wash over her, sighing as the day’s stress melted away. The sweat and grime were replaced with the soft, clean scent of soap. She was drying off and feeling lighter when a sudden, persistent knock sounded at her door. Wrapping herself in a towel, she walked to the door, slightly annoyed.
“Mom, I said I don’t–” she began, opening the door, but paused when she saw a young girl standing there. The girl’s face was flushed, her fingers fidgeting nervously over her belly. She looked no older than thirteen. Angie raised her eyebrows, slightly concerned.
“Oh, hi sweetie,” she said gently, leaning against the doorframe.
“H-hi… I’m Sarah,” the girl stammered as she looked down, clearly embarrassed.
“How can I help you, kiddo?” Angie asked, folding her arms, her voice softening.
“I… I’m having… issues,” Sarah muttered, glancing down, her dark skinned cheeks turning pink. Angie paused, sensing what the problem might be but waiting for Sarah to say it herself.
“Issues?” Angie asked, tilting her head with a gentle smile.
“Yeah…” Sarah bit her lip, hesitating. “Girl issues?”
“You got your period, huh?” Angie asked, her voice warm with understanding. She smiled and rolled her eyes in sympathy. “Come on in, honey. I’m Angie, by the way.”
Sarah’s face lit up with relief, though her eyes still held a trace of sadness and uncertainty. “Thank you,” she whispered, grateful for the kindness of this stranger who had quickly become her lifeline.
“Don’t mind the mess, ‘just moved in,” Angie walked towards her bedroom as she loudly spoke, finding some tanktop and shorts to wear after showering herself.
“No troubles.” Sarah replied, standing still, once she was scared she would leave some stain in Angie’s couch. As soon as Angie returned, Sarah peeked at the older girl carrying a bag and having a towel wrapped around her head.
“Did your mom ever talk to you about periods?” She asked, placing the pink small bag over the table. Sarah narrowed her eyes, feeling an involuntary urge to cry as she heard the word “mom”. She never gave much thought to her mom or the fact she left her and Joel to live a dutiless life, but this new change in her body brought her new emotions that Sarah couldn’t fathom of where it came from. Her eyes teared up, triggered by that simple sentence and Angie looked at the child, concerned she said something she wasn’t supposed to.
“Oh, honey,” Angie murmured, realizing she had touched a nerve. She placed a comforting hand on Sarah’s shoulder, guiding her to the couch, where they sat together. “I’m so sorry if I said something that hurt you,” she said softly. “Look, why don’t we start by going through a few basics? I brought some things that might help. This little guy,” she said, pointing to a pad. “is going to be your new best friend for a few days each month. It might seem strange at first, but everyone’s been through it. I’ll walk you through how to use it. And, just so you know, cramps and weird feelings can come with the territory, too. That’s what these tablets are for, they’ll help with the stomach aches.”
Sarah’s eyes flickered to the chocolate bar, and Angie chuckled, nudging it towards her. “Chocolate helps too. I promise.”
A faint smile crossed Sarah’s lips, and she reached for the bar, unwrapping it slowly. “Thanks,” she said, her voice barely a whisper.
“No problem,” Angie replied, her tone light. “Periods can be damn bad, especially the first time. But once you get the hang of it, you’ll see it’s just a part of life.”
Sarah took a deep breath, her gaze focused on the pad as she tried to ignore the ache in her stomach. Angie handed it to her, explaining how it would attach to her underwear, going through the steps carefully but casually to keep things light. Once Sarah seemed to understand, Angie gently squeezed her shoulder. Sarah took a bite of chocolate, letting the sweetness calm her. She looked down at the pads on the table, still feeling a bit lost. “It’s just… I don’t know anything about this stuff,” she admitted, twisting the wrapper nervously. “I didn’t even know it would… hurt like this.”
“Y’know,” Angie added, showing her Texan accent. “it’s perfectly okay to feel whatever you’re feeling right now. Sad, scared, or even mad. ‘S a big change, and it can be a lot to take in. But I promise, it gets easier.”
“Does it? My belly hurts real bad now.” Sarah replied, pouting her lips as she pressed some heat from her hands over her abdomen. Angie laughed faintly and caressed the girl’s long curls.
“It does, sweetie,” Angie said, still patting her hair. “But there’ll be times you’ll be dying for your period to come.”
Sarah looked at Angie puzzled at face and then, Angie realized she was talking to a thirteen year old who had no idea of what she was talking about. “In a few years you’ll understand, kiddo.” She completed, grabbing her chin and Sarah shrugged.
“What about these?” Sarah asked, getting a long tampon in her hands, horrified by its size. “Do you put this like… right there?”
Angie crossed her arms after scratching her eyebrows and smiling briefly amongst the mess in her living room. “Yeah… this one might be too much for you now, kiddo. Let’s keep on the tampons for now, ‘kay?”
“Thanks,” Sarah said, her face relaxing a little. She glanced again at the tampon on the table, her curiosity lingering, but it was comforting to know she didn’t have to figure it all out right away.
“Anytime,” Angie replied, giving her a reassuring smile. “Y’can lay down in my bedroom. ‘S the only place is not full of boxes, I’ll get the heating pad warm for you.”
Meanwhile, Joel and Tommy strolled home beneath the relentless sun, the cold coming from the beer packs offering a welcome chill against their chests. The day was blazing, and they were more than ready to kick back and enjoy the afternoon ahead. “I was talkin’ with Herschel at the liquor store and he talked about this cute lil’ thing living right across the street,” Tommy said, waiting for Joel to open the front door. Joel remained silent, not giving too much thought about it. He had dated a few ladies in the past, but none worked out for him. For now, he was solely focused on raising Sarah.
“Tell me ‘bout that,” he replied, pretending to be interested in his brother’s typical womanizing chatter as he turned the key in the lock.
As they stepped inside, Joel paused, immediately noticing the unusual quiet that filled the house. The TV was off, and there was no trace of Sarah bustling around or playing music like she often did. Joel’s eyes drifted up the stairs, figuring she was probably in her room, getting ready for the neighbor’s pool party. He shrugged it off, glancing at Tommy, who raised an eyebrow in silent question.
“I saw her carrying loads of boxes into that house that belonged to that Thomas family who moved away to Arizona,” Tommy continued, getting into Joel’s home as he opened the door. “Guess that means she’s new to the neighborhood. What an eye-candy, all sweaty, beautiful legs, cute smile.”
Joel shrugged as he dropped his keys onto the table. “New neighbors, huh? That’s nice, I guess.” He walked into the living room, his mind still half-focused on Sarah and her quiet absence.
“C’mon, man! You should at least check her out!” Tommy urged, following Joel into the room. “Could be a good distraction for you.”
Joel shot him a look, half-amused and half-annoyed. “Not interested, Tommy. I’ve got enough on my plate right now.”
“Yeah, but it wouldn’t hurt to make some friends,” Tommy countered, a smirk spreading across his face. “Especially if they have those pretty legs like the new neighbor.”
Joel shook his head, unable to suppress a smile despite himself. “You’re an asshole.” He couldn’t help but appreciate Tommy’s enthusiasm, even if he had no intention of pursuing anything beyond his responsibilities. “Let’s just focus on getting ready for the party.” He said, trying to redirect the conversation. He called out for Sarah, raising his voice slightly. “Sarah!”
There was no response. He frowned and glanced toward the stairs, hearing only silence echoing back at him. “Hey, Sarah! You up there?” he tried again, a hint of concern creeping into his voice as he made his way toward the stairs.
Tommy followed him, still grinning. “She’s probably just taking her sweet time,” he said, crossing his arms. “You know how girls can be. Maybe she’s trying on every outfit she has.”
Joel roamed the second floor of his house, checking for his daughter. Looked inside his and her bedroom, the bathroom, nothing. A pang of worry fell upon Joel. “Tommy, check if Sarah’s downstairs!” Joel asked, yelling from the second floor as he went down the stairs. Tommy nodded, a hint of seriousness now creeping into his playful demeanor. He sprinted to the bottom of the stairs and looked around the living room. “Sarah! You down here?” he shouted, but only silence responded.
Joel reached the last step, his heart racing a little faster as he glanced around. “Sarah!” he called again, his voice laced with concern. “Where are you?”
He walked into the living room, scanning every corner, and then turned toward the kitchen, thinking she might be grabbing a snack. The kitchen was empty, too. Joel felt a knot tighten in his chest.
“Maybe she’s outside?” Tommy suggested, moving toward the back door. “You know how kids like to hang out in the yard when they think no one’s watching.”
“Yeah, maybe,” Joel replied, trying to push away the worry gnawing at him. As Tommy opened the door and stepped outside, Joel followed close behind. The bright sun hit him, and he squinted, scanning the backyard for any sign of his daughter.
“Sarah!” Tommy called out again, his voice carrying over the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze. Still no answer. Joel stepped further onto the patio, a sinking feeling settling deeper in his gut.
“Let’s check the front,” Joel suggested, feeling the need to cover all bases. As they moved around the house to the front yard, he felt an unsettling sense of urgency. “If she’s not in the backyard, she could have gone to the Adler’s or something.”
“Sarah!” Joel called out, stepping onto the porch and peering inside. “Are you in there?”
Just as he was about to knock, a voice floated back to him, a familiar voice, but tinged with uncertainty. “I’m here!” Sarah replied, her tone brightening with relief.
Joel exchanged a quick glance with Tommy, both of them relaxing slightly. They saw Sarah coming downstairs from the neighbor’s home with a girl next to her, stepping slowly as she carried a heating pad over her belly. “What’s going on, kiddo?” Joel asked, breathing relieved as he saw his daughter safe and sound, but puzzled as to why his daughter had brought a heating pad on the hottest day of June.
“Uh… hey,” Angie said, extending her hand at Joel, who shook hands with her briefly and mainly focusing on Sarah’s well-being. “My name’s Angie, I’m your new neighbor livin’ ‘cross the street. I’d take it easy on her, uh… she’s gone through a bit too much this last hour.”
“Um… hi Angie, thanks for watching her, I’m Joel.” Joel said, trying to be as polite as possible. “As for you, going out without my permission and disturbing the new neighbors Sarah, c’mon…” he finished, rolling his eyes.
“No, dad, you don’t get it…” Sarah said, trying to reason with Joel.
“Yeah, good luck with that, miss,” Tommy chimed in, his hands shoved into his pockets as he tried to disguise a laugh at the father-daughter exchange.
“She was actually looking for help,” Angie interjected, sensing the tension. “Sarah needed someone to talk to about… well, girl stuff. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.” Joel raised an eyebrow, momentarily confused. He exchanged a glance with Tommy, who seemed just as puzzled.
Angie approached them, holding out a bag filled with toiletries. “Hate to be the messenger, but your daughter went through, um… the change,” she said, her tone gentle but matter-of-fact.
Joel’s heart sank, and he felt like being hit like a ton of bricks as his cheeks grew red of embarrassment. He looked from Angie to Sarah, who stood there with a mixture of shame and vulnerability. “Oh,” he said slowly, his voice barely above a whisper. “You mean…”
“Yeah, I got my period,” Sarah admitted, her voice annoyed. “I didn’t know what to do, and Angie helped me.”
Tommy, realizing the gravity of the moment, stopped his teasing and looked at Sarah with an unexpected seriousness. “Hey kiddo, don’t feel bad” he said, trying to lighten the mood, but his tone was respectful. “You’re not alone in this.”
Sarah rolled her eyes, annoyance flooding her cheeks as she hid her face in her hands. “I can’t believe this is happening,” she muttered, wishing she could just disappear.
Joel took a deep breath, processing everything. “I’m glad you had someone to talk to, Sarah,” he said, his protective instincts kicking in. “But you should have come to me. I can help too.”
“No, Dad, you can’t! Ugh!” Sarah exclaimed, exasperation lacing her words. “You don’t understand! It’s just... embarrassing. Ugh! Nobody gets me!”
Angie watched the exchange, sensing the emotional intensity of the moment. She looked at Joel, unsure of how to proceed from there. This was clearly a delicate situation, and she wanted to offer support without overstepping. Tommy, sensing the need for space, quietly stepped back inside the house, leaving Sarah and Joel alone and closed the door behind him, allowing the father and daughter to have their moment without distraction.
“Sarah, honey, I think that you shouldn’ talk to your dad like this.” Angie said, with a soft voice as her heavy southern accent was shown. “I tell you that, go home and rest, take these with you.” Angie completed her sentence, giving Joel the sack of feminine products.
“Go home and rest. Sometimes just lying down for a bit can help. And if you need to talk, ’m right across the street,” she added, her tone reassuring.
Sarah hesitated, glancing at the items in Angie’s hand. “Thanks, I guess. But it’s just… weird.”
Angie chuckled lightly. “‘S part of life sweetie, in time things will settle.”
Joel nodded in agreement. “Angie’s right, kiddo. And I promise, it’s not as scary as it seems. Just remember, it’s a normal part of life.”
“You know nothing, dad,” Sarah hit back, rolling her eyes. Feeling the weight of their words, the girl took a deep breath. “Okay, okay. I’ll take them.” She reached out and accepted the items, a small smile breaking through her earlier frustration. “Thanks, Angie.”
“Anytime, sweet pea,” Angie replied, her voice filled with sincerity. “And if you need anything else, just knock on my door. Seriously.”
With a final glance between them, Sarah felt a little more at ease. “Alright, I’m heading home. I guess I can rest and NO PARTY for us!”
Sarah turned to walk away, speaking in a loud, grumpy and bossy tone. Joel grinned and scratched his eyes before looking at Angie more carefully. The girl was indeed a cute little thing with her hair humid and wavy, her features so delicate and feminine that it became almost impossible to not notice her. Her lips were also perfectly shaped. He couldn’t deny, she really was an eye-candy just like Tommy said, but he was quick to send these thoughts away.
“Uh… I had no chance to say thank you. You’re probably full of stuff to do and-...” Joel said, strangely clumsy around the girl before she interrupted him. Angie, on the other hand, found Joel really attractive with his broad shoulders and messy curls, covered in sweat. However, she was also quick to shoo these thoughts away, once she didn’t want to suffer from another bad relationship. For now, Angie wanted to take care of herself. “How much all the… uh, lady products,” he scoffed, oddly timid. “Costed?”
She chuckled gently, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. “Hey, don’t worry ‘bout that. I’ve been in her place back in the day, it’s tough. Besides, she’s a peach so don’t worry about a thing ‘kay? Face this as a gift from a new neighbor.”
Joel beamed, proud from the education he gave to his daughter. “Yeah but, uh… will she always be this cranky? She was this sweet little girl just yesterday and now looks like a monster swallowed my daughter.”
Angie raised her eyebrows, laughing. “You’ll learn how to handle it just in time. My old man took a while to get used to it too.”
Joel laughed faintly, ignoring the sun towering them. “Y’know what? Why don’t you join us for dinner? The party I’d go to is ruined now so I have loads of beer untouched. I’m no chef but I could cook somethin’ nice. Just a way to say thank you for taking care of my baby girl.”
“I don’t wanna bother anyone, Joel. Really…” Angie said, with a sincere expression.
“C’mon, I insist. You went out of your way to take care of a kid you barely knew.” Joel beamed, crossing his arms.
Angie sighed and smiled as she scratched her eyebrows, nodding her head reluctantly. “Alright, fine. Thanks for the invitation.”
“Not at all, sweetheart.” Joel said, leaving a thrill down Angie’s spine as soon as he called her by a term of endearment. “See ya.”
“See ya.” Angie said, going back to her house.
Angie closed the door behind her, biting her lips as her mind recollected the last moments with Sarah’s dad. He was a nice guy, your regular guy next door: talk, muscular, kind, handsome, charming and seemingly a good father. Joel seemed to be a perfect guy for Angie on paper and she couldn’t deny the instant attraction she felt for him as soon as she laid her eyes on him. Although, at the same time, Angie was still mourning the end of her relationship with Trey and everything he could be with her, it ached her heart knowing he was already engaged to a girl who apparently wanted the same things as him. Angie needed to learn how to be alone and get back on her feet first and then, she would think about dating someone else.
Later that evening, Angie started prepping for the dinner Joel had invited her to. She didn’t want to overdress, but she also didn’t want to show up looking like she hadn’t given it any thought. She opted for a simple, casual dress, something comfortable but flattering. As she checked herself in the mirror one last time, Angie took a deep breath.
As she walked to Joel’s home across the street, she felt a slight shame since she couldn’t prepare any meal for the dinner, since her kitchen wasn’t set up yet. The fresh evening air helped to settle her nerves, though, and by the time she reached his door, she felt more at ease. She rang the bell and a few seconds later, Joel opened the door. His expression softened as he saw her, a warm smile spreading across his face.
“Glad you came,” he said, stepping aside to let her in.
“Thanks again for inviting me,” Angie replied, stepping over the threshold. “Sorry for not bringing anything, my kitchen isn’t set up yet.”
“Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing, sweetie, you’re our guest,” Joel’s place was cozy and welcoming, a blend of his laid-back personality and something subtly protective. The aroma of a home-cooked meal lingered in the air, and Angie felt an unexpected pang of nostalgia for moments like this.
“Oh it smells good for sure,” Angie said, laughing as she walked inside his house. “Your house is beautiful, by the way.”
“Thank you darlin’, I made ‘few pieces from the furniture,” he said, placing his hand over the thick wood on the counter.”
Angie widened her eyes, surprised as she looked at the fine wooden mobilia. “How talented. Are you a carpenter?”
“Contractor. Me and my brother, Tommy. The one you saw earlier.” He said, sitting on the couch alongside Angie, who adjusted the skirt of her dress as she sat comfortably on.
“Well, my parents will definitely need your services one of these days,” she said, glancing upstairs with a subtle curiosity for any sign of Sarah.
"Oh, really?" Joel arched a brow in surprise, a soft smile pulling at his lips. "Thinking about renovations already, darlin'?"
"Well, sorta," she chuckled. "They’re letting me stay in the guest house for a while. ‘S temporary, just until they settle into the main place and decide what to do with it. It’s… a nice way for me to get back on my feet too.”
Joel nodded thoughtfully. “That’s great. It’s hard to find good places that feel like home right away, you know? Sounds like they’re lookin’ out for you.”
“Yeah, I think so,” she replied, smiling softly as she glanced around his house again. “Funny enough, this neighborhood already feels a little like home.”
"'S a nice neighborhood to live in," Joel agreed, his voice soft. "Very peaceful, just good folks all around. Just a shame I’ll have to get used to not seeing you here eventually."
Angie’s cheeks flushed, and she felt a flutter in her chest at his words. "Well, thank you, but I wouldn’t worry too much. I’ll stick around a while." She chuckled. "Had to leave my ol’ job in Dalla to make this move.”
Joel’s eyebrows raised in surprise. "Dallas, huh? That’s a big shift."
“Yeah,” she replied with a shrug. "My folks thought it’d be a good time for me to slow down a bit… and I think they’re right. But it’s a whole new chapter."
Joel nodded. "Big change, but you’ll fit in just fine here. And who knows, maybe we can convince you to stay longer than you’re planning." He shot her a warm, playful look, letting the words hang with a hint of invitation. “I know for a fact that Sarah was already talking ‘bout how cool you are.”
Angie laughed, letting the ease of his company make her feel even more at home. "Well, don’t go making offers like that. I just might take you up on it." She met his gaze, feeling a spark pass between them that was both comforting and scary.
“Dad!” Sarah’s voice echoed as she bounded down the stairs, breaking the quiet warmth that had settled between Joel and Angie.
Joel straightened, glancing over at Angie with a quick, sheepish smile before turning to Sarah. "Hey, kiddo, what’s up?”
“Hey Angie, you came.” Sarah said, greeting the older girl with a tight embrace, which Angie accepted just fine.
“I see you got better, my dear.” Angie said, releasing the girl from her arms.
Sarah nodded. “Yeah, I think I’m good now,” she said, flashing a shy smile toward Angie. “Thanks for... you know, helping me out.”
Angie smiled warmly. “Anytime, Sarah. You’ve got this.”
“We were just waitin’ for you, baby. Let’s go before the dinner gets cold,” Joel said, guiding the girls towards the kitchen. Angie felt a quiet warmth settle over her as she realized how rare and precious connections like this could be. It was something she hadn't felt in a long time. As the evening wore on, a gentle silence settled between them, one that didn’t feel the least bit awkward or demanding.
“So, Angie,” Joel began after swallowing a bite of his steak. “You were tellin’ me you had to find a new job in the city. What d’you work with, darlin’?”
“I’m a hairdresser.” Angie replied as she had a sip of her beer, watching Sarah’s eyes widening as she spoke.
“That’s so cool! You could do my hair like Janet Jackson’s sometime!” The girl said, excitedly.
“Kiddo, let’s not abuse from the good will of Angie,” Joel scratched his beard, slightly shy for her behavior. Either way, he had to admit it was cute to see his girl so excited over someone, he figured that Angie could be a good influence on her just for the short amount of time they spent together.
"Relax, we can arrange that, honey," Angie reassured, giving Sarah a warm smile. "But, between us? I think your natural curls are way prettier. Had a friend in beauty school, she had these beautiful curls, all big and curly like yours," Angie said, eating a piece of vegetable quickly. “She taught me ‘few things. I can show you how to make your hair even prettier.”
“Thanks, Angie,” Sarah replied, with a soft smile.
Joel nodded, watching Sarah’s confidence grow under their attention. "Don’t you have a friend whose mom works at that hair salon downtown, darlin’?” he asked, a knowing smile playing on his lips.
Sarah nodded as she took a sip of her juice. “Yeah, Ellie’s mom,” she replied, glancing up curiously.
Joel raised an eyebrow, casting a quick look at Angie. “Well, maybe next time you’re over there, you can mention Angie to her mom. She’s lookin’ for a job.”
Angie’s eyes widened, her surprise quickly melting into a smile. “Oh, Joel, you don’t have to do that,” she said, though she was clearly touched by his thoughtfulness.
"Sure I do,” he replied warmly. "Good folks ought to help each other out. Besides, Sarah’s got the inside track on the best stylist in town now.”
Sarah grinned, clearly pleased to be involved in a conversation that felt almost grown-up, as though she were part of some small conspiracy between them. She looked from Joel to Angie, excitement dancing in her eyes. “I can do that!”
Angie laughed softly. "Guess I better thank you both then,” she said, her gaze meeting Joel’s with appreciation.
Joel shrugged, his voice warm. “Like I said, just lookin' out for good people.” Angie smiled tenderly at Joel, nodding at him in a silent gratefulness.
As the evening went on, laughter and conversation flowed easily, but eventually a comfortable silence settled around them, a stillness that didn’t need to be filled. They shared small smiles across the table, each appreciating the peace that came with the evening. Sarah eventually fell asleep as they watched a random movie on the TV. Joel glanced at Angie, his gaze steady and kind, as though he, too, was almost surrendering himself to sleep.
“Oh, guess someone fell asleep,” Angie murmured with a soft smile as she noticed Sarah’s eyelids drooping. Joel smiled silently, reaching to lift his daughter in his arms.
“She’s always like that,” he whispered, his voice warm as he carried Sarah upstairs, cradling her gently. Angie followed quietly, watching as Joel carefully tucked Sarah into bed, smoothing the duvet around her with a tenderness that softened his rough edges. He leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead before turning back to Angie, who stood by the doorway, watching the scene with a softened gaze.
Once they stepped into the hallway, Angie took a breath, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “Well… I guess I should get going,” she said, gathering her things with a polite smile.
But as she stood there, a small pang of sadness flickered in her chest, remembering memories of promises that once meant the world to her. Trey had once promised he’d be there to tuck their future kids into bed every night, and for a moment, Angie felt the ache of his absence more sharply than usual. She missed the life she had once imagined, even if she couldn’t quite say it out loud.
Joel’s voice broke her reverie, low and inviting. “You should stay. Have a beer with me,” he murmured, his gaze lingering on hers as he gently closed Sarah’s bedroom door behind him.
Angie smiled, her heart lifting despite herself. “Thank you, Joel. But maybe we could both use a good rest tonight,” she replied softly, her southern accent wrapping around the words in a way that felt warm, even comforting.
Joel tilted his head, his own accent thickening as he spoke. “Fair enough,” he said, a hint of warmth in his voice. “Feels like we’ve known each other longer than just a day,” he said softly, a faint smile touching his lips.
Angie met his gaze, her own smile forming. “Yeah, it does. Funny how that happens sometimes, isn’t it?”
Joel nodded, his eyes warm. “Guess it’s not every day you find someone who just… fits.” He looked down, almost shy, before adding, “Or who’s willing to help out a clueless dad in the middle of all this.”
Angie laughed softly. “You’re not clueless at all, Joel. And besides, I don’t mind bein’ around to help, if you’ll let me.”
Joel’s smile deepened, a look of quiet gratitude passing over his face. “I’d like that,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Angie’s gaze lingered on Joel, her heart fluttering with an unexpected warmth. Just one day into her new life in the suburbs of Austin, and here she was, falling for a man’s charm with the same ease that had always led her to trouble. She felt like that naive girl once more, melting under his sweet talk, the magnetic pull between them undeniable yet unsettling. But she shook her head slightly, a small frown creasing her brow. Angie knew she had to exercise some discipline in her thoughts, because she knew well that right there, she was being the same needy girl that she was trying to leave behind. It was easy to get swept up in the moment, but she couldn’t forget the reasons she had moved away from Dallas. This new beginning was about rebuilding herself away from her past and the disappointment of Trey.
“I should probably get going,” she said, though her voice lacked conviction as they stood by the door. “You know, get some rest and all.”
Joel nodded, a hint of reluctance in his expression. “Sure, but you’re welcome here anytime. I mean it. Sarah could use a friend like you, and so could I.” His sincerity made her heart ache with possibility. ‘Friendship, Angie. That’s all he wants from you.’, that’s what Angie tried to repeat in her mind like a mantra.
Angie took a deep breath, grounding herself. “G’night, Joel.” She said, walking away from the Miller’s door, walking towards hers across the street.
