the alex kister drama......well......

idk how long i've posted something but ever since this alex kister situation came out, i need to speak my thoughts about this because this situation was the ONLY thing I was thinking

If you're not chronically online, Alex Kister is just a youtuber that created The Mandela Catalogue (2021) and other things like Mystifying Oracle and The Red Box Project, and he got exposed for being weird and predatory towards a minor.......yeah

i actually loved The Mandela Catalogue back then and i was a huge fan of it (even if there was only one post about it in my blog and it was only just a reblog of a fanart in like 2022 probably 💀) like I loved the concept, characters, the creepiness, everything in general. i eventually lost interest in this series and gained new interests in 2023. i kinda forgot about this series until now, and........

yeah, what alex did was fucked up, but here's the problem: I don't know if I should believe the victim or not because there were times where creators were accused for being pedophiles or just being creepy in general and majority of them were false accusations (ex: Kwite, ProJared, etc.). Like...I literally do not know who to trust, and I'm telling the truth. Especially considering the fact that ruining a famous person's career is getting easy, I don't know if the evidence are legitimate or not.

So what's my opinion on this?

I won't pick a side yet. I'm not choosing a side until Alex released his response to this situation. I don't want to immediately jump to conclusions because I don't know who to trust. If everything the victim said was true, let's hope that Alex will stay away from the internet and another person will pick the up series. But if the victim was lying the entire time, we'll beat their ass for trying to hurt Alex. We don't want to repeat our mistakes (especially if you remember the Kwite situation).

For now, I won't pick a side until Alex releases his response. I'll remain neutral.

Yeah, that's all I gotta say. 2024 really is the year huh? I'll post more light-hearted and positive posts after this, because I think there's too much negativity in my blog recently.

A list of youtubers I subscribed to that ended up self destructing aka Why Can't Anyone be Normal?

In somewhat chronological order (my memory is a bit hazy and I can't be bothered to check the dates)

Onision - should've seen this one coming a mile away but I was young and didnt know any better

Shane dawson - I lost interest and unsubscribed before whatever drama with him went down

Jontron - A shame. But being a comedian, I feel like his bad opinions would've reared their heads sooner or later.

ProJared - this one was entertaining, but looking back it was a trainwreck for everyone involved and even the fans who were unsubbing were being nasty, including me.

Jenna Marbles - IMO one of the single greatest tragedies of the internet. The pinnacle of purity culture hurting people who didn't deserve it. Her last video before shit went down ended with her saying happy pride month and Black Lives Matter. An absolute travesty.

John Green (he came back) - this one was just online harassment for literally no reason. John Green did nothing wrong. He committed the heinous crime of writing Young Adult fiction while not being a Young Adult.

James Charles - I was actually starting to become interested in make up because of him. People just can't resist drama I guess??

OwONekko - I just started watching her recently. 100% her fault. First it was AI support, then it was accidental transphobia, then it was intentional transphobia, then it was insulting her own fans, then it was saying that anyone who criticized her was racist. Just an adult having a full blown toddler meltdown because she had a bad opinion.

Man the way I get so heated seeing posts about ppl bringing back up the projared drama because of the completionist stuff happening and still just see ppl ignoring the fact that he basically solicited porn from minors to talk about how he cheated on his wife and was cringe 🤪

I think both of these things can be true at the same time. Heidi probably has people just buying whatever Heidi has listed as being under her brand because she has a small amount of fame as a runoff of the ProJared drama, so they're buying stuff because she would have personally handled it to ship it. Like you said, it's on the level of groupies trying to get a hold of anything they can say they received from a famous person or even just a secondhand-famous person.

And there's more than a good chance of Heidi pulling the MLM move of conveniently bringing up her pre-order sale to her crafting meetups and asking them to do her a favor and get the ball rolling on sales. Let's be real, the kind of craft meetup Heidi goes to is probably going to be almost exclusively for people with money to burn, so a number of them throwing out $70 as a favor for their friend, even if they don't really want the item, wouldn't be that difficult for them.

That would also explain why she's allegedly getting so many sales but her tweets have little engagement, and usually from the same people, and why people are buying her stuff but we almost never see someone wearing these items on social media. It's because they're buying stuff they really had no interest in wearing and they're just tossing the stuff into storage after getting them.

That would make sense if it were proven to be true, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

is actually really cute how one can see problematic patterns repeating in content creator fandoms or in content creators themselves, and yet people who are allegedly around our demographic either don't know or don't want to remember stuff like the Jontron vs Destiny debate, the Dream Daddy mobbing case against DD and Jules, the Projared nsfw discord incident, the CallmeCarson drama, and so on and so forth.

Like, some people are still doing the "But x content creator is such a good guy!" with certain people even after seeing how The Completionist used that whole shtick to cover his charity fraud and scams. And that's something that came to light 2 years ago. No wonder we keep seeing stuff like the Dream thing or that group of mario party tryhards having a severe case of toxic fandom and not-so-great irl connections.

It's great how scummy people are using the shortened attention spans of their fans to repeat history over and over again. And then everyone acts surprised when shit hits the fan.

To answer a question about what did Jirard do to get him making an apology video, two YouTubers who investigate fishy YouTubers got ripped off about some possible charity fraud from Jirard's Indieland charities he holds annually. It turned out to hold weight, the Internet didn't want to believe it so people started drama, Jirard made an equally non apology like Somerton but in his he threatens to sue the 2 journalist. Both who decided to leak a call where Jirard throws JonTron and Projared under a bus trying to get pity, keeps referencing his dead mom and other things. There are videos out there to get a better tldr because this has been going on for a whole month and may continue.

Damn what a guy. Also ProJared is still around? Thought he was a pedophile?

I have some Thoughts. Yes this is related to current drama, no I will not give more context on what or why. I also wholly intend for this to stay to myself, so no tags today for all of my zero followers.

I don't use Twitter. This little hellsite and another, redder hellsite are the only social media platforms I use. I do not care about drama. In fact, I hate getting involved in drama. So, more often than not, I just ignore it until it goes away.

I used to be fully on board with the idea of socially ostracizing someone if they did something fucked up. Find out that JonTron is racist, yeah let's boycott his videos. Find out that JK Rowling is... JK Rowling... Yeah, we shouldn't accept that kind of behaviour. But, the more I see these things happening, the more I see calls to cancel someone (or more likely, see posts saying that someone has already been cancelled), the less I believe in the idea, for one simple reason.

The Twitter mobs are usually just wrong.

This has long been known about social media, but there's not a lot of room for nuance. On Twitter, you have only a certain number of characters to use. On other platforms, you see a post and can take it in isolation, not able to or simply not needing to understand the context surrounding them. This becomes a problem when a large group of people rush to cancel someone for doing a Bad Thing. Hell, all I know about the JonTron thing is that he said a racist thing at some point. I don't know what he said, in what context, or if he ever said anything like it again. But, for me several years ago, it was all I needed to instantly decide that he was a terrible person and I should hate him and all that he does.

Then, as more people I follow got cancelled, I was less and less involved in the effort. When the drama surrounding ProJared came out some years ago, I was on board at first, then kinda just stopped caring. Then, he came back after the flames had died down a bit, and explained what was going on. Some accusations were outright lies, and others were misunderstandings or exaggerations made through the social game of telephone online. Overall, maybe he did fuck up, but in a completely human, understandable way.

Another that I remember vividly was ZeRo. He had these accusations of sexting underage girls which essentially pushed him away from social media entirely. He even came out and admitted it, right? So cancelling him worked! Well, no. A long while later, he came back to YouTube and admitted that, after the mobs got to him, he decided to admit to it, and then kill himself. He thought it would be easier that way on everyone involved, because he knew that not only was he being cancelled, but everyone associated with him was feeling the backlash. He thought that if he took the fall, those around him would be spared from the negative association.

And, I mean... Can we talk about how massively fucked up that is? Even if the accusations were true (which they weren't), can we recognize that driving someone to suicide for that is a massively deranged thing to do? I can't imagine being in that situation. Because yeah, I've fucked up before. I've even had some major fuck ups that would have probably gotten me cancelled, if I were in any sort of public sphere. I know it, I learned from it, and I can move on from it.

So yeah, forgive me if I don't care about the latest youtuber drama, celebrity drama, whatever. Forgive me for not immediately raising pitchforks and torches to burn down their homes for supposedly doing a bad thing. And don't get me wrong here- BAD THINGS ARE STILL BAD. And they should be punished. But the mob justice of the internet and social media on these people is far too extreme, and in my experience, is usually wrong anyway.

Like don't get me wrong, I'm not the biggest projared or Heidi fan. Quite frankly I couldn't care less TBH. But why put so much effort to bitch and moan about something like this? Don't you think it's a bit weird?

I don't really know how I stumbled on this blog, but I would probably never have thought about that drama ever again if it weren't for it.

Do you realize how inactive I've been lately or how old this blog is? I log in every month or two lately, the last post I made before today was almost two months ago, so I don't know how you found it either with how infrequently I post anymore. When I made this blog back in 2021 Heidi was still regularly milking her divorce drama for attention, throwing Twitter temper tantrums at least once a month when she wasn't getting enough sales, and she left her cats to boil in a hot apartment with no air conditioning. I started the blog to talk about that.
