Progesterone is a drug that helps with breast development, and also makes you fantasize while walking down the street about a girl taking you by the hand, leading you to a semi-secluded place and fucking you raw with a hand clamped over your mouth to keep you quiet so nobody hears you moaning and whining incoherently

Honestly I think the best way to organize what is currently called “progressive rock” would be to remove the rock moniker entirely, and call the genre “progressive music”, and thus encompassing a wider variety of music (everything from art pop to djent).
As for what is currently referred to as “prog”, which, in typical colloquial usage refers to the music that arose in the late 60s and early 70s in England (and all music directly inspired by it), taking inspiration from a variety of classical music, jazz, and incorporated themes of literature, philosophy, and religion into its suites—- that can be called “The English First Wave”, or to make it clearer, “The English Scene”.
I think referring to the first wave—- bands like King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Genesis, Van der Graaf Generator—- as a scene would help shift the academic focus into looking into the environmental and historical factors that helped create prog, because I don’t think the most helpful analysis is calling this a “genre”—- it’s really more a scene of interconnected musicians doing similar things.

Just listened to Yes’ debut album and loved it! I’m going to do a deep dive of prog rock this month! Starting with Yes’ discography.
(Also Jon Anderson’s voice is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful omgggg and the drumming in this album is amazing here as well. And my fav part besides Jon’s voice definitely has to be Chris Squire’s thundering, badass bass!

I don't really know what to add, just go listen to the live version of my favourite Ayreon album while I seriously consider getting the DVD.
