"Good" Acting
i have a theory that a lot of people say acting is "good" when they're emotionally moved by it, and a lot of cishet white people have a lifelong habit of not listening or empathising when minoritised people speak, so minority actors get called "bad" even when they display some pretty fucking amazing technical skill
#also a lot of female actors don't get recognised despite being fucking GOOD#that's not to say minority actors can't always be bad#of course we can#I'm just saying#sometimes#for SOME shows in particular#ahem ahem#some actors might get very heavily criticised for reasons that have very little to do with their actual technical skill#and more to do with the politics of those criticising them#also I'm not talking about me here#before anyone says that#I'm talking about some actors I know who have recently been criticised in my opinion quite unfairly#despite doing something very difficult#like oooohhh i dunno#playing two roles in the same show?#and doing it very well#displaying some amazing technical mastery of body and voice technique#but hey what do I know#oh wait I went to drama school and I'm a professional actor lol I DO know#I'm just a woman so I have to couch my expertise in cutesy self-deprecation lest people think I'm a bitch

Something interesting I've noticed about people is whether they view a diagnosis as prescriptivist or descriptivist.
Somebody who views a disability or illness as a matter of prescriptivism will often only believe somebody has a condition if they can prove it by way of a diagnosis. They will view a diagnosis almost as though it is given to you by a doctor or psychiatrist, that they are the people who can truly prove you are right or wrong, that they know best.
Somebody who views a disability or illness as descriptivist will see a diagnosis as, essentially, an official observation into behaviours or states of being that the person in question is experiencing. The descriptivist route entails the idea that somebody who will eventually be given a diagnosis is already experiencing something wrong, and that medical professionals ought to be working to observe all the symptoms the patient is experiencing and line them up with other observations (diagnoses) we have already observed in others.
I think it's important to recognize these two general attitudes about diagnosis. If you want to ally yourself with disabled people, it helps to learn how to view diagnosis as more in line with the descriptivist mindset, I think.
#disability#disability advocacy#and like as an example... my PTSD didn't magically appear when multiple mental health professionals noted it...#...i was displaying the symptoms commonly associated with PTSD and they lined their observations and my own observations in order...#...to deduce that i have PTSD and i struggle with it...#...the diagnosis did not induce the onset of PTSD... the traumatic situations did...#...so it's always *very* strange to me when people operate with the prescriptivist notion of diagnosis...#...i've talked about these ideas before but not really in this way and outlining each broad camp

random head canon I just came up with: tucker complaining about the meta suit being tight in the crotch is supposed to be a dick joke, but I think it's way funnier if it's supposed to be tight because that's how armor works: if its too loose you risk being injured because of things being knocked around when impacts are made, lessening the effects of the armor absorbing and distributing the force, so you don't want a bad fit. tucker wouldn't know that though because he's been wearing flowers armor, which was custom fit for flowers, and when they got new armor in s6, they used the measurements of the old armor, so tucker's been wearing improperly fit armor the entire series—which is a level of stupidity only the reds and blues could accomplish.
#in my head tucker isn't neared as built as maine nor is he nearly as tall but I hc that the meta suit in s13 isn't the same suit#it's a recreation of the suit using different measurements bc price was consulted on the whole situation and despite how he was viewed#he cared about /his/ freelancer agents and refused to let some obsessive ceo desecrate the life of one of his agents by displaying their#suit—which was a part of who maine and the meta was as much as their own fleshas a trophy#price isn't that bad you guys he just gets a bad wrap being surrounded by mentally ill and neurodivergent soldiers who have an innate#distaste for psychological professionals (and being an oni civilian consultant but so was the director so)#< me forever coping with the missed potential of the counselor as a character#I'm a little delulu as the kids say these days /j#rvb#red vs blue#lavernius tucker#the meta#agent florida#captain butch flowers

As someone who has been trying to do research on NPD, the anti-narc community is genuinely fucking harmful, not only because of how very clearly ableist they are, but also because they're constant rhetoric makes it stupidly difficult to get good info on NPD, since more often than not, when you attempt to research NPD or even find other pwNPD's experiences, it's highly polluted by shit like "how to survive a narc" "what do to if you're partners a narc" "how to shut a narc down" etc etc
Its infuriating.
genuinely, it is so fucking disheartening to see so much hate towards a trauma disorder. we particularly take issue with the "how to destroy a narc" guides because they outline how to cause a person with npd to crash, which is an abusive behavior considering that crashes are extremely difficult to cope with and have led us close to suicide in the past. the ableism is constant and unending and almost impossible to avoid. it's very very frustrating but please know that we here on this blog (and all of our other blogs) support people with demonized disordered such as (but not limited to) npd, and we try to make this a safe and comfortable environment, because we know how rough it is out there
being "anti" any disorder is insane, I'm not sure why it's considered okay to bash on one or two disorders just because we've been painted in a harmful light by the media
#🫀.inbox#🎙️.will#luckily though#the actual therapists of the world seem to not buy into the narc abuse thing#because a trained professional knows that personality disorders don't make a person evil#and there is never any reason why you should consider someone dangerous just because of the symptoms they display

Update: 7/9/2023 (I will update the listings if they are added to the stores.)
Drawing Tablet Buyer's Guide 2023
Are you looking for help to get into digital art? Are you confused for what models would you pick? Do you want success in your art career? Then this blog is for you. These are the buyer's guide for artists who wanted to take approach on digital art. As always, you don't need a latest and greatest tools just to make good art. Your handy mouse and a trusty old tablet can do fine art at the time. My Intuos 4 L still works today, even if it was released on 2009.
Here are the basic categories you'll fit into: Beginner, Intermediate and Professional.
Beginner - This is where you start making digital art for the first time.
Intermediate - These are experienced artists who are on mid-range level at a greater value.
Professional - These are same as intermediate but who are on to take approach an high-end level to mimic the meaning art.
There are three types of pen tablets for you to decide. These have pros and cons on these tablets.
Pen Tablet - A pen tablet doesn't require a screen and can benefit for a user experience such as good posture, portability and pricing, but this requires hand-eye coordination as this type of tablet has a steep learning curve and drawing on it feels unnatural to use.
Pen Display - A pen display is a monitor that can be drawn into. It is easier to learn how to use pen displays and can mimic a sketchbook you were drawing. However, there are issues such as bad posture, expensive pricing and limited portability. Sometimes, your hand gets in the way through pinpoint cursor while drawing.
Pen Computer - These are pen tablets that can be used by themselves and don't require a computer, it can be portable for travel use. However, they are very expensive, limited to none upgradability, difficult and costly repairs and have a short battery life. As such, I do not recommend getting these pen computers for these reasons above and instead look for other mobile tablet alternatives such as iPad Pro, Surface Pro 8 or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Here are the list of drawing tablet recommendations based on three categories.
NOTE: Prices may vary due to sale discounts so I only put links to the official store from drawing tablet brands so I'm gonna keep the original price for future references. However, Amazon is safer for returns and good units and eBay is the way to go for second hand offers.
If you're an osu! player looking for a pen tablet, I'd suggest getting an Intuos Pen and Touch Small 2013 (PTH-480) on eBay. One by Wacom Small (CTL-472) has the same performance yet cheaper. The only good alternative that doesn't suck is Gaomon S620. I recommend getting OpenTabletDriver for that purpose.
If you want to invest digital art, I highly recommend getting a medium size tablet for larger hand gestures.

another thing i found while going through my files. little tiermaker list showing what (almost) every NPC says when you invite them to your house and they don't give you a home warming gift. there's four different dialogues for it, & each character is assigned one.
& (some) screenshots for evidence :) (past the cut)
#yes a tiermaker list is Not the most professional way of displaying this information#but we are NOT professional on TheSimQuarter.tumblr.com#yes i wrote one of the dialogues down wrong as well#but according to my files this is over two years old so! not fixing it!#sims handhelds#urbz#urbz handheld#tsq#gbasims

Regarding the previous post, I think the way I approach trying to evaluate a piece of art is asking "Do I think the positive things I get out of it outweigh the parts of it that I don't like?" And when I call something a "guilty pleasure" song/show/book/piece of media/etc. it's really more in the sense of, "Given who I am as a person, the flaws I've found in this should be complete dealbreakers for me, but somehow they aren't, and it makes me feel like I'm having an identity crisis."
#like. I think something like...idk shiki or cxgf excels on multiple levels. I understand why I like them. given the things I look for in art#it makes sense that these shows would speak to me because they make the effort to showcase those things I look for. because the people#in charge of those works clearly valued the same kinds of things and cared about seriously exploring them.#but with something like. uh. ctrlz. that is NOT the case and I frequently found myself going 'why would anyone make this writing#decision?' but I still sat through all 3 seasons of it! I still really enjoyed it! those flaws SHOULD have made me give up according to#personal history but they never did. and I very very much genuinely question why. I have NO IDEA why I still care about this#silly convoluted teen drama show so much. but I do. I wrote SO MANY FUCKING POSTS ABOUT IT.#I really love wicked the musical. I've heard many people call it 'hokey' or 'cheesy' or 'objectively bad' but here's the thing! I DON'T#think it's bad!!! like literally at all!!!!!! and it does do some genuinely cool things in regard to the music and the way the characters#develop and what the show says about the nature of prejudice and human connection. is it like. idk Serious™ the way that something like#Parade is? no. but it doesn't have to be. it does what it sets out to do and it does it well and this is why the whole '''objective#evaluation''' thing doesn't actually mean anything. I value thoughtfully-constructed music and dynamic female characters#(which this musical has). I value stories that deal with the complex and messy feelings that come with being a human (which this musical#has). I value stories about 'other'ness and romantic subplots that aren't just built on 'This Girl Is Pretty' (which this musical has).#and I value professional displays of technical vocal ability because I know how fucking DIFFICULT that is (which this musical...if you cast#it well...has).#if you value something else in a musical then yeah you will probably think THIS one is '''objectively bad'''#if you don't see the point of musicals as an art form you will probably think wicked is '''objectively bad'''#do you see where the problem with categorizing analysis like this is??

#my therapist luckily has experience with asd and even though i'm not professionally diagnosed (yet)#she's literally feeding me lines to use so i can function better and have a less horrible time in social situations#like ''i want you to practice saying 'can you give me a minute to think about it?' when someone asks a question and you're overwhelmed''#and she told me to start journaling about the things that i like. because i literally have zero idea who i actually am because i'm so used#to just being whoever anyone expects me to be. and it's not like i'm faking my personality#but rather it's like my personality is a star with lots of points on it. and when i'm alone all the points are out on display#but when i'm with people certain points will pull back into the star to add their mass to the other certain points in the star#and the points that get pulled back are the parts of me i know won't be palatable or appropriate or safe for a situation or person#and the points that grow are the parts that i know will be useful for me in a situation or help me to be likable to a person or to be safe#but it's a great effort to shrink and grow. and the star isn't the shape it's supposed to be and it hurts to be contorted#that's actually not a bad analogy. ok....writing it down...

Speaking of tablets every now and again I think about how this bad boy CARRIED when I started doing digital art😭
#do they even make these anymore???#It was so tiny now thinking about it but I made it work🤣#I actually stopped buying wacom products bc they never last💀 I ran through SO many even when each time was an upgrade😭#also for a while I wanted a wacom display tablet but it being the cost of rent....sickening#I actually wanted a cintiq companion but price aside the reviews were awful😭 literally saw how faulty they were...#though I liked the idea of being able to draw on a nice screen on the go like the iPad... 😞#anyways it's for the best bc in their last product design cover they used AI art#which... kinda defeats the purpose of buying a tablet in the first place???😭😭😭#I like xp pen and it was the first time I was able to actually get a display tablet :')#I did want wacom cintiq back then bc so many professionals used it but clearly the wear and tear sucks😭

Bad news for Star Wars action figure enjoyers because I just got the 3.75” Cad Bane figure and while this is what he looks like from the front—
… This is, unfortunately, what he looks like from the back.
They overlooked how things would appear at different angles and gave the guy with the most distinct and intimidating cowboy silhouette the most unflattering sculpt of a duster caboose I’ve ever seen
#So like. I guess if you’re one of those people who keeps them in the box to display you’re fine buuuuuut#heh. butt#Star wars#action figures#cad bane#They could have done a full split coat in the back#They could have made the duster fabric like they do for some other characters’ capes#They could have had both side swept back over the holsters and done better tooling on the folds#Also his face is the one from the live action not the cartoon so. same complaints there as back when I watched TBoBF#Like sure I usually prefer for the most practical effects to be used as possible#But like. you have to be able to deliver on it#And it’s Disney. they’re not lacking in money#They just don’t want to pay the right professionals to do good work#That one guy had that really good edited VFX vid done like a week after the episode#I’m going to see about modding his face to be closer to the original design#Hasbro sculptor: Hey you know who needs to have the look of a flat butt and jessica rabbit hips from the back?#Hasbro sculptor number 2: That guy based off of Angel Eyes from the most famous spaghetti western of all time?#Hasbro sculptor: Yeah that guy. I don’t know what Lee Can Cleef looks like but I’m pretty sure it’s not tall and slim and all angles
