My book unrecommendation is The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

Premise makes it seem like it will be full of ghost

There are no ghosts

There are a million different murderer reveals, each less interesting than the last with motives that range from "huh?" to "wow." The plot grips and loses itself with each chapter. Every time you start to like the main character she does something to make you hate her. They tease so much with her backstory only to flip it on its head in the least satisfying way ever. The only likeable one is her boyfriend who should definitely leave her

All of this and not a single fucking ghost. A major waste of time

yes!!! i read it like two years ago and absolutely loved it. nearly cried at the epilogue. since then i've bought two more of TJ Klune's works, Under the Whispering Door and In the Lives of Puppets, the latter of which i have yet to read. (i'm reading Good Omens at the moment!)

i literally read all of UtWD in a day, i tore into that thing like a man possessed. definitely recommend 👍 (reading it in general, not binging it. it's likely better experienced over a longer period of time lol 😅)

The first round will be 1 week long to make sure everyone has a fair chance, then every other subsequent round will be 1 day long because i'm impatient lol

Round one: Friday March 31st 1pm (UTC) - Friday April 7th 1pm (UTC)

Easter themed "BACK FROM THE DEAD" round: Saturday April 8th 1pm (UTC) - Sunday April 9th 1pm UTC

Round two: Sunday April 9th 2pm UTC - Monday April 10th 2pm UTC

Quarterfinals: Monday April 10th 3pm UTC - Tuesday April 11th 3pm UTC

Semifinals: Tuesday April 11th 4pm UTC - Wednesday April 12th 4pm UTC

Finals: Wednesday April 12th 5pm UTC - Thursday April 13th 5pm UTC

RULES:

* "back from the dead" round: all 16 people who lost the first round will fight in 2 polls of 8 people each, the two winners will be allowed to re-enter the competition in round two with a 3 way poll against the person who defeated them in the first round + a third contestant

* if two people tie they will merge into one contestant

* cheating, rigging and unethical alliances are ENCOURAGED

* the finals will include a poll to decide 3rd and 4th place

PRIZES:

* the winner will be awarded a drawing of a character/person of their choice by me

* second and third place will be awarded a redraw of their pfp made by me <3 couldn't think of anything else sorry
