okay let's do it this way. Each link goes to the story if it's still up on the original site, or to the surviving version on the wayback machine. These are all free to read, it looks like the site just isn't being maintained properly anymore :/
If you click the link and it leads to an error page after I make this post, copy and paste the url into the wayback machine on archive.org. You can also download the official wayback machine extension, which will automatically let you see the archived versions of a page.
Lonestar Stories.
oops they're in backwards order. sorry I'm not fixing that now.
I've only read one of them so the only warnings I have are for casual racism, misogyny, and ableism in Wolf Night by Martha Wells.
Nevermind another warning there's a giant swastika in the art for Die Rache by Steven Utley on a Nazi flag.

Finn Wolfhard being #1 M*leven anti for the 9483716 time he’s so me
Listen to this man’s voice he sounds so bored when he mentions the letter and as soon as the girl’s like oh you mean the fake letter? where she’s pretending? he’s instantly going “yeah yeah yeah exactly yes yes yeah” verbatim and starts making fun of Mike’s disconnect with El 😭 I just know he was thinking thank god there are people who get the letters weren’t a cute romantic thing and he doesn’t have to go along with any fawning

hmm. there's something fascinating to me actually about how returnees are typically portrayed as arrogant in orv. I won't even say that's an inaccurate view of isekai protagonist characters, given my (limited) experience reading isekais, but orv does quite a lot of work in showing how tragically disposable certain types of stories are, and how upsetting that can be. it also does a lot to show power fantasies as being sympathetic things for people to experience. making returnees almost exclusively low-tier assholes means that orv misses out on what I think could be an interesting opportunity to portray a certain emotional experience. what if you think your story is the most important in the world, and the things you suffered were all justified in the end, only to discover that you have only ever been considered cheap entertainment and are ultimately disposable?
but there's an angle in orv's portrayal of Successful Returnees that makes it click well for me. the reason that jang hayoung is a failed returnee, and that this gang of low-tier assholes are successful, is because the successful ones have bought into the idea that everyone else's story is disposable, and can therefore be mere props in their paths to power, while jhy has not. her wall of impossible communication can block her from success in the system (initially) because it is what enables her to connect to others. once she learns how to leverage those connections she does of course start to transcend the system and become powerful, but initially, of course she can't Be an ideal returnee. because she does actually view other people as people and not as props. she doesn't even view herself as A Protagonist.
so, then. the ideal Protagonists who view their stories as uniquely special... it does make a good amount of sense for them to be immediately subjected to how little the system cares for them or their stories lol. become a prop in someone else's story posthaste! become an obstacle!

i know it's just the trope of like. one true love/soulmates/"never loved someone before this person" but I find it very funny that in writing that trope, mxtx accidentally made all her protagonists read as very arospec
shen qingqiu? whole essays have been written about how he is absolutely on the ace spectrum, and i'd argue he's on the aro spectrum too for similar reasons. he's like "damn it would be difficult to get a girlfriend as the scum villain" and then proceeds to not really give a shit about that problem whatsoever. he's completely clueless about the fact that people are falling love with him left and right, does not even consider romance an option until luo binghe straight up kisses him on the mouth. i think in general attraction for him is kinda muddy and it would be hard to neatly label the affection he feels for binghe as one thing or the other. i do firmly believe that if you plucked romance out of the equation, he and lbh would still be attached at the hip because their dynamic is a mess that isn't exclusively romantic
wei wuxian? the most demiromantic motherfucker i've ever seen. he knew lan wangji for HOW LONG before he realized he was in love with him??? he was very clearly obsessed with lwj from the start, but it likely started as "this guy is fun to provoke and I want his attention" rather than romantic attraction (as opposed to lan wangji who was attracted to him from the start and Very Mad About It) and I think it took wwx so long to figure out his feelings because it genuinely just took a long time for those feelings to develop from something platonic (and a little physical) to something romantic, and I think that development came about because he realized just how much he could trust and rely on lwj
as for xie lian, im only on book five, but so far my assessment of him seems to be that for 800 years he was like "this chastity shit is easy" and now he's suddenly experiencing attraction for the first time and he's like "whoa. okay. well I'll deal with that later once i'm done dealing with the horrors"

One thing i particularly enjoy about souvenir pop is 80s sound which i also talked about concerning Stephanie. I hear it in lips and mesto duhov aswell, these have an almost post-punk like sound (and Stephanie sounds more new wave to me). And i THOROUGHLY enjoy this. I think it was Nace who mentioned that he really enjoyed the synth-y 80s sounds and that they were playing around with that and i am SO very thankful for that i am LIVING.

As someone who has never been interested in vampires, I am extremely excited for BounPrem's vampire series.
It's partially because I love BounPrem, sure, but it's mostly because I respect the amount of very professional research and preparation Boun has committed to the role over the past several years.
I just think his artistry should be honored by my diligent attention.

"i dont see what ppl see in the lore its so boring"
shuffles my feet around, most ppl talking about the lore are exclusively talking about love nikki and shining nikki, the two games most ppl started the series with and have been around longer so theyve had time to explore their stories
now granted im assuming this person has only played infinity nikki, if not then hey not everyone is gonna like/care for the lore thats just how it is with video games
i havent spent too much time with infinity nikki bc i move at a snails pace and only play a little bit at a time so i cant say much on its lore
but these games tend to slowly move towards the more out there lore ok you gotta wait like a year before someone dies off
its also a gacha game so ur not getting all the lore at once ok they gotta have reason to keep ppl coming back and playing

Now this is the weird cartoon I'd watch.
There would be some very questionable humor, screaming (and i kinda really miss Hunter's screeches from the second season. He was GREAT while raising his voice, no matter what anybody can say about it being annoying), grotesque episode scenarios, cool uniforms and much else!

i'm 60% into busman's honeymoon (enjoying it immensely) and it's so refreshing to read about a couple who adore each other and have endless chemistry, who follow each other's thoughts because they're both witty and intelligent... a couple who you read about and think, yeah, i get why they're together and why they're in love!
i'm allergic to m/f usually both because i prefer gay shit and because so many authors put zero effort into writing the romance in their novels (this is especially true in speculative fiction, from my experience). but when i read a romance like this it's really like wow. maybe i'm not as heterophobic as i thought maybe i just want a good fucking romance!! an amazing discovery
also, for the love of god, we need more married couples in fiction. i love slow burns and will-they-won't-theys as much as anyone else but. give me more husbands and wives. AND also exes

Thinking about it, Bedman sorta fits into a similar archetype as the Digimon Emperor. Too-smart-for-his-own good bratty nerd who still somehow manages to be tricked by a bigger antagonist into thinking the world is a game that they can play god, and you don't really have any friends but your boss says you're just so smart and special so do you really need any anyway?
Except whoopsie you were actually just a pawn all along. Have fun reflecting on all the fucked up stuff you did (possibly right before you die) and try not to worry about the copious amounts of hangups you have toward your missing sibling that led you into doing this in the first place its fiiiine

JULIE JOYFUL RWAAAAAA
Tumblr media
Finally I drew Julie, my baby!! I enjoy her quite a lot and these are the outfits I think she’ll be performing in my au. I mentioned it before in a post that she’s in a band “Joyous!” with her siblings. Might as well say a bit about the lore, basically everyone from the “Welcome Home” cast left Home and ventured into the Real World. Kinda similar to how Barbie leaves her toy world in the movie. So yeah pretty much everyone started their own music career, but Eddie and Frank started a talk show together.
