The X-Men call Hank Beast or Mr. McCoy (in X Men evolution) but I think if a non mutant gave him disrespect they'd all jump them once Beast makes them stop and starts dragging them home they'd yell "and that's DR. McCOY to you!"
"yeah put respect on the name!"
#x men#definitely would be spike kitty and kurt#im sure everyone else a bit more respectfully#hank mccoy#beast xmen#xmen evolution#probably og Jubilee#i can see her doing that

Completely off topic but Kurt absolutely is a big part of the furry community he just shows up to conventions as himself and takes pictures with people, some people have made OCS based off of him and he loves it it's so nice to see people who want to look like him. It gets to the point he becomes an influencer among furriers entirely on accident by just existing and being nice and queer positive. He shows off all the saint Bernards at the monastery where he lives (cause he literally lives at a swiss monastery that saves tourists in the mountains, they probably were one of the OGs who bred the dog in the first place) sometimes he has 3 am live streams where he bakes bread for the monastery and local homeless shelter and answers questions about mutants.
His sister and her husband have to take him to the big US cons once he starts getting invited cause the US is huge and scary to even consider navigating for short fuzzy Europeans like him. Rogue and Gambit just kinda shrug there shoulders about it. I feel like rogue is a bit weirded out by furries at first cause all she knew was the sex stuff but gets used to it quickly. Starts calling furries "care bears" cause of the big cute costumes and how huggy they are. Gambit doesn't mind but it's not really his thing. "Gambit seen weirder shit on Bourbon Street and nobody seems to care about dat. Don't get why people think these Disney world rejects are creepy." He uses the opportunity to get some new bedroom toys when they have to chauffeur him around to a con. Also they get essentially a free hotel room through Kurt so they can fuck off and have their own vacation in the city while he's doing con stuff.
Kurt took beast with him one time but poor guy got overwhelmed. People liked him so much he had to duck out. "So many requests for hugs! And dates...I'm not used to humans not screaming and running from me...what do I do with all these numbers all these people are expecting me to call them!!!" He finds the super science nerd side of the furry fandom though and is just like "my people". He does not understand half of the lingo but starts making regular appearances with Kurt.
One day they accidentally run into jubilee at one on the new york cons. She tries to play it off that she's here for a friend but she's literally carrying a bag with paw gloves. Eventually she caves and is just like "ok I watched too much Disney's robin hood growing up...."

I’ve been watching X-Men ‘97 and saw some discourse on Twitter about how next weeks episode will probably be Gambit focused and touch on Antarctica. I can’t remember anything about Antarctica from the OG show and I only have a casual knowledge of comic book events, what happens in Antarctica with Gambit?
based off the released preview clip for tomorrow's ep it's actually gonna focus on Jubilee i think! But to answer your other question, Antarctica is where it's revealed Gambit was involved in the Morlock Massacre and the night before finding that out is when Rogue & Gambit take the step of having sex together for the first time since their powers were null. Rogue is made to kiss Gambit & find out the truth of what happen and because of Gambit's own self loathing, as soon as the team is able to escape, Rogue leaves him in Antarctica to find his own way back. I added where they talk about it in Rogue & Gambit (2018) as well :]

thank u zanna!!
1. favorite fic you wrote this year
OKAY i'm not sure if all's well that ends counts as a fic for 2022 given that i speedwrote it in dec 2021 and just published it on new year's day, but if it does, definitely that one (it is probably tied with cause most of us are bitter for the favourite fic i've ever written...sometimes it's just a bit ahead of that one). as for something that was actually written in 2022 i would say sacred and dust (the rest of us) because the brainrot truly possessed me for that one, i really like how it's written and how characterisation is built through the prose and internal monologue, and i know statistics don't matter but i am so charmed that one of my most ""successful"" fics is a speculative found family angstfest centring on a character that has been in like three episodes of toh and a character that is 1. dead and 2. has never appeared in the show himself
12. favorite character to write about this year
you would not fucking believe it given my inability to finish + publish anything this year but ctubbo 😭 he is a shining star in so many wips that got shoved around either bc i didn't have the capacity to devote enough attention to them OR are getting reshuffled a bit bc they feature certain characters a bit too much for my current liking. if i had to pick a character i actually published a freaking fic on this year i would say dl!pearl i like writing whatever the hell she has going on from the mildly horrified perspective of others
18. current number of wips
narrowing it down to fics i've worked on in the last month or so? eight. ideas on the backburner....i don't wanna talk about it
23. fics you wanted to write but didn't
so fucking many dude. so fucking many. i don't wanna be like "this year has been miserable" but yeah. i had ALMOST finished a fun cquirkyduo fic but for Reasons i am going to try and gut it and reshuffle. i'd also like to finish the october 17 in pogtopia fic before new year's but i think with how busy i am and general lack of mental space i have rn it's just not gonna happen. i'm also gonna say special shoutout to siren au bc that's been on the brain microwave since like april but i'm still trying to plan out an ending that isn't Tragically Awful
24. favourite fic you read this year
fuck you i have a small list
get a load of this monster, he doesn't know how to communicate by cacowhistle - i would also recommend itssideria's OG version of this fic but i read that in 2021 technically lol. anyway ccrime canon divergence in one of those quirky ctommy horror streams wooo
galileo, gazing by zannolin (hello) - wilbur centric post narnia au anyway you were evil for this
jubilee line by cacowhistle - cwilbur in limbo i love painnnn
this is the thing about fiction by acatalepsy - oh cwilbur oh my cwilbur healing arc the fact that i only read this in 2022 feels like a crime
double agent vader series - surprise star wars recommendation anyway this series is fucking fantastic i would say my favourite star wars fics ever i'm trying not to rush the series and savour it all but i could sit down and read this thing in one sitting if i wanted to the brainrot is that strong
ask game!!

X-Men '97 Showrunner Beau DeMayo Fired
Attention, fellow mutants and curious onlookers! We’ve got some intriguing news hotter than a Phoenix Force tantrum. Brace yourselves, because the mastermind behind Disney+'s animated series “X-Men '97,” Beau DeMayo, has been let go. Yes, you heard it right: DeMayo’s exit is more mysterious than Mystique’s true form. But why? Was it a mutant feud? A cosmic alignment? Or did he accidentally spill coffee on Professor X’s Cerebro? Let’s dive into this drama like Nightcrawler into a teleportation frenzy. He’d just wrapped up Seasons 1 and 2 of “X-Men '97,” high-fiving Cyclops and sharing secret mutant handshakes. But then *poof!* he vanished like a stealthy Shadowcat. No Hollywood premiere for him. His Instagram? Deleted. It’s like he stepped into a time portal (or maybe just took a vacation to the Savage Land). Why the sudden exit? Did he accidentally turn Beast’s fur pink during a script meeting? Or maybe he tried to replace Wolverine’s claws with baguette slices (because every mutant needs a snack). The truth is shrouded in more mystery than Jean Grey’s Phoenix saga. Some say he challenged Gambit to a card-throwing contest. Others claim he accidentally summoned Mojo from another dimension. Either way, it’s a mutant-sized enigma. Beyond “X-Men '97,” DeMayo’s been weaving spells across the Marvel universe. Remember “Moon Knight”? Yep, that’s his handiwork, starring Oscar Isaac as the moon’s brooding BFF. And hold onto your vibranium shields: DeMayo’s scripting “Blade,” with Mahershala Ali as the vampire-slaying daywalker. But wait, there’s more! He’s dipped his quill into “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” Netflix’s “The Witcher” (Henry Cavill in leather armor: hubba hubba), and even animated “League of Legends” shorts. The guy’s busier than Deadpool at a chimichanga buffet. Now, let’s talk about “X-Men '97.” The OG mutants are back, folks! Professor Charles Xavier is allegedly pushing up daisies. But guess who’s got his last will and testament? Magneto, the master of metal manipulation. What’s in there? A recipe for mutant enchiladas? A playlist titled “Telepathic Grooves”? Nah, it’s probably just a note: “Dear Magneto, water my bonsai tree and keep your helmet out of my fridge.” Who’s suiting up for this nostalgia trip? Wolverine’s sharpening his claws, Cyclops is recalibrating his optic blasts, and Jean Grey’s practicing her telekinesis (no broken vases this time). Storm’s checking the weather forecast (spoiler: thunderstorms), and Jubilee’s perfecting her fireworks show. Beast is reading Shakespeare to the Danger Room, Gambit’s dealing cards like a mutant croupier, and Morph…well, Morph’s just being Morph. Bishop’s flexing his biceps, and Professor X? He’s either sipping cosmic tea or playing chess with Death herself. So, whether DeMayo’s exit was a cosmic hiccup or a mutant conspiracy, “X-Men '97” promises more drama than Magneto’s helmet collection. Tune in, grab your mutant snacks, and remember: When life gives you adamantium, make metaphorical pancakes. And when life fires your showrunner, just blame it on Mojo. He’s used to taking the fall. Stay mutant, stay marvelous, and may your mutant powers never glitch during a crucial battle. Excelsior!

Word count:2391
Warning: Charles being a dick like he always ends up being in the 3rd of the films
Can be seen as either elder or younger cast cause of some bits. Like I have Logan, Peter, and Alex and PM/AS wasn’t in the OG films while LH wasn’t *technically* in the new ones. Plus Kurt is a major person...here, lemme explain the sides
X-Men-Logan, Storm, Kurt, Jean, Scott, Peter, Alex, and Hank (Plus Y/N)
Brotherhood-Erik, Raven, Toad, Sabretooth, uhhhhhhh others
Jubilee and Warren are honorable X-Men
Y/N’s powers are Telekinesis and Blood Manipulation/Magik (If you know the Mortal Kombat character Skarlet, that’s who she’s like)
Katherine (Indigo Witch) and Carolyn (Shadow) are OC’s of mine. Katherine has powers like Wanda and Carolyn has powers like Raven (DC)
Main Masterlist
XMEN Masterlist
Y/N ran down the steps to reach the ground floor. “Logan!” She wrapped her arms around the mans neck. “It’s been so long! I thought you died or somethin’”
He chuckled, “It’s good to see you too, kid.”
She pulled away and smiled up at him, “Where’ve you been?”
“Around.” She rolled her eyes and jokingly slapped his arm, “Alright, alright, Storm and I think we found where Magneto is hiding.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, it’s an old warehouse.”
“Storm!” She hugged her friend, “It’s good to have you two back.”
Storm laughed, “It’s good to be back kid.”
Y/N smiled at the two elder X-Men, “C’mon, Professor is back in his office.” She stuffed her hands into her pockets and walked over to where the Professor’s office was. The two adults looked at each other, both knowing how the teen looked happier than normal. They followed after her nonetheless and stood behind her as she knocked on the door before walking in. “Morning Professor! Look who’s back!”
The Professor looked up from the book in his hands and smiled at the group that just walked in. “Logan, Storm, welcome back. What did you find?”
“We believe we found Magneto’s new base. We saw people, mutants, going in and out.”
“Ones who we know are apart of Magneto’s brotherhood.”
“Raven.”
“To name one, yes.”
“Why did you return?”
“We believe we might have been compromised.”
“Do you believe they knew it was you two and not a few silly kids?”
Storm shook her head, “No, we don’t. We came straight back to inform you.”
“As you were right to do. Y/N,” He looked at the younger mutant, “Go and get everyone and tell them to meet us downstairs.”
“Of course Professor!”
As she ran out of the room the three elder mutants went on down. But as they were in the elevator Logan spoke, “Is something going on with her?”
“Who? Y/N?”
“Yes.”
“Why would you think something was wrong?”
He shrugged, “Don’ know. She just seems.....I don’ really know, happier?”
Storm nodded, “Logan’s right. That girl is never that happy. It’s like she had a switch of character.”
Charles sighed, “It has been the topic of many other people here. Like you spoke Storm, it was as if she had a switch of character over night. She won’t tell anyone what happened.”
“And you and Jean have collectively decided to not look in her mind?”
“Not exactly.”
“Of course that’s not the whole story.” Storm slapped Logan’s arm and he gave her a ‘well am I wrong?’ look.
Charles rolled out of the elevator, “Y/N was having nightmares--”
“They came back?”
“Yes Storm, they did. She asked Jean and I to help her. We did. For a few days she went into her, as she had always called it, ‘dark corner’. But then, like the drop of a hat she became this happy person.”
“I’m not complaining, but it’s strange to think that she has that much pep in her.”
Logan nodded, “Storm’s right, it is weird.”
--------
Y/N knocked on the door of Jean and Scott’s bedroom. She stuck her head in, “Jean? Scott? Logan and Storm are back. Professor wants us all to meet downstairs.”
“What could he want?”
Y/N shrugged and Jean spoke, “Probably to talk about whatever Logan and Storm found out.” She looked at Y/N, “We’ll be down in a minute.”
“Got it.”
Y/N ran down the hall and back down the stairs to the kitchen, knowing that Alex, Peter, and Kurt would be there since they had just gotten back from their own mission last night. She opened the doors and, as usual, she was right. “What’s up kid?”
“Professor wants us downstairs. Logan and Storm are back and Jean and Scott are on their way down.”
Peter groaned, “We just got back from a mission! I don’t wanna be sent on another!”
“I’m sure Jubilee or Warren wouldn’t mind taking your place.” Alex saying that made Peter zoom out of the room. He rolled his eyes, “I hate it when he does that.” The two heard the sounding of Kurt bamfing, “And I hate it when he does that.”
Y/N laughed, “C’mon Alex, let’s head on down.”
He threw his arm over Y/N’s shoulders, “I guess we should go before Charles gets upset.”
“I have to get Hank too.”
“Then I shall join you.”
“You’re weird Alex.”
“I know, but it’s my job to be.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, “Whateva’ ya say.”
--------
“So we’re going after Magneto again?”
“We know where he is so naturally we should take that.”
Peter sighed and everyone understood his annoyance. After all, Magneto was his dad. “Peter, you don’t have to go.”
“No, I will. I just find it ridiculous that he won’t just give up.”
“If anything he’s making things worse for mutants.”
Y/N gave everyone a small smile, “Hey, at least if we finally get him, we might get a break!”
“Yeah, that is a plus.”
“So, why don’t we go and kick some ass!”
Logan gave a small smile, “I couldn’t have said it better myself.”
“Everyone suit up.” They all got up when Storm gave her order, but as Y/N went to get her suit Storm grabbed her wrist. “You good kid?”
“I’m fine Storm.”
“Charles told us you were having nightmares again.”
Y/N groaned as Logan told her that. “Listen, I really am fine! Professor and Jean helped me out with them and I haven’t had then since!”
Even though they both wanted to ask her more questions, they knew nothing good would come out of it so Storm let go of Y/N’s hand an Y/N waked over to get suited up. Storm looked at Logan, “Something really is wrong.”
He nodded, “I don’t think she should go.”
“Neither do I, but Charles said it would be fine.”
“And you trust him?”
“Shouldn’t I?”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He sighed, “C’mon, let’s get the jet ready to go.”
————
Everyone was on edge as they stepped out of the jet. No one really saying anything. All feeling a oddness as it was too silent. Logan made a hand signal, telling her, Alex, and Kurt to go left.
The three mutants went left and entered the smaller warehouse. “Hey, I can sense someone.”
“Where?”
“I—I can’t tell. It’s like they’re all around me.”
“Okay. Nightcrawler go left, I’ll go right, Psy you continue straight.”
Y/N gave Alex a small nod and continued to head straight. But soon regretted it as it felt like she had walked into her nightmares.
She looked at herself in the mirror. She looked 10. She walked down the stairs to the kitchen. Her parents laid there, blood pooling around them, obvious from it coming from on eyes, nose, and mouth. She froze, unable to know what to do--she did next.
She closed her eyes as she felt a searing pain in her head. She screamed and fell to the floor. Feeling as if a million things were coming at once.
“Are you sure you should do this Charles?”
“Her family asked us to.”
“But you know how bad this could be if she found out.”
“Yes but it’s the only way to keep her under control. I’ll tell her the truth...one day.”
“Y/N, dear, calm down, please. Y-you’re scarin’ us.”
“Mama?”
“Y/N! Stop! You’re about to kill him!”
“Mama?!” She screamed and fell to her knees. Memories that she didn’t know she had coming back to her. Memories that had been repressed all appearing at once.
“Charles, why? She’s just a kid?”
She squeezed eyes shut and soon images appeared along with the voices. But instead of fractions of memories, it was one singular memory. As if it was a prequel to her own nightmares.
“She’s a disgrace Y/M/N!”
“Y/F/N, please, she can hear you.”
“Like I give a damn! She should know that she’s a disgrace by being an embarrassing me! Especially after today!” Her father scoffed, “She made us leave the dinner early! She was perfectly fine when she came home! She had no reason to cause a scene like that!”
“Love, how do we know something isn’t wrong with her?”
“What? What could she be? That girl is just faking being sick! Just as she fakes everything else!” Y/N heard him grab something from the drawer and faintly heard her mom yell his name and say something about going too far. Y/N didn’t even realize what she did next, all that she knew was that soon her father was suspended in midair. “What are you doing?”
“Y/N--”
“Put me down you bitch!”
“Y/F/N!”
“Why should I put you down? I, for one, think that you should choke on your own words.”
Her father began to thrash around, as if he was being choked by an invisible force. Y/N slowly lifted her hand and her mother screamed as blood shot out of his body and formed small spear-like things. “Y/N! Stop! You’re about to kill him!” Y/N snapped her head to her mother a sinister smile before they shot into her fathers body. The most horrifying part? He didn’t make a single sound. He was silent until he fell to the ground with a loud thud.
The next moments of Y/N memory was like a flash. Her mother screaming and her blood covering the walls. Y/N’s screams of horror, realizing what she had done. Her eyes shot open and she saw Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants in front of her. Indigo Witch and Shadow both having looks of horror. Neither knowing how to process what they just saw.
“What the hell did you just do to me? What did you just put in my mind?!”
“Nothing that wasn’t already there.”
“No! You’re lying!”
“Am I dear child? Do you really believe so?”
“I--I don’t know.”
Magneto nodded and slowly walked to her, “I can understand why. Come with me and--”
“She’ll never join you!”
Magneto moved his attention from the mutant on the ground to the group that had appeared behind her. “Ah, Charles’ X-Men. Tell me, do you enjoy being his puppets?”
“We’re no ones puppets.”
“Yet he always sends you to do his work? Never being there himself? Why? Is he too good for that?”
“Erik, stop.”
“Charles, I’m surprised to see you.”
“Erik, you know why I am here. Don’t do what you’re about to.”
Magneto smirked, “So, you know why I allowed us to get caught?”
“You allowed us to catch you?”
He looked at Storm, “My dear girl, after all this time I would think you would know that it is not that easy to find us.”
“I just--”
“You just thought we slipped. As if I would ever allow that to happen.”
“What do you want with Y/N?”
“I believe you know Charles.”
Shadow stepped forward, “Beast and Alex know too.”
“Do they?”
Witch nodded, “I saw them. They were with him when he placed the blockers. Made her forget.” She looked from the young girl on the floor to the elder man in the wheelchair. “You should know how stupid that would be, Professor.”
“If you saw what happened, then you understand why I did it Katherine.”
“My name isn’t--”
Magneto raised his hand and looked at her, “Don’t.” His hand dropped and he looked at Charles. “What you did to young Y/N here, I...I’m actually surprised. Out of all the people that I would think would make a girl forget she killed her parents and just how powerful she is, I never expected it from you.”
Y/N slowly turned her head to Charles, “Professor?”
“Understand that I did it for your own good.”
“You made me forget...my nightmares...how...why?” She spoke in broken sentences. Unsure of what she really wanted to say.
“If I didn’t then there was no way that--”
“No way what? That you could control her?”
“Charles, what did you do to her?”
He ignored Jean’s question, keeping his focus on Magneto. “Erik, don’t do this. Don’t take her away from her family.”
“Family?!” Y/N slowly stood up, “You lied to me! You told me my parents died in a car crash!” She gripped her hands into fists, “You lied to me and made me forget something major! You told me that my family didn’t want me after my parents died! That--that they, that they didn’t care.”
“They didn’t Y/N. They asked me to.”
“And that gave you the right to do it?” Her words came out shakily, “I hate you.” She turned to Magneto whose hand was outstretched to her. She took his hand, “Can you promise to never do this?”
“Of course my child.”
“Then I will go with you.”
She heard the X-Men yell ‘no’ but soon it went silent and instead of the abandoned building, she as in an old cave, the sound of water not far from her hearing. “Welcome to the Brotherhood.”
And as Y/N disappeared, everyone looked at Charles. “What did you do Charles?”
“What I thought was right.”
“You thought that was right? You mindwiped her?” Logan shook his head, “I know what that’s like and never is that right.”
“I told you not to do it Charles.”
“Alex--”
“Alex is right. We told you it was stupid and that nothing good would come from it. Why do you think we tried to delay it as long as we could? You had to do it to her in her sleep!”
“Is that why you always had me help her with her nightmares?!” Jean demanded, “Was I actively helping in making her not know the truth?! Is that why you never let me see what her nightmares were about?!” Charles didn’t answer, “Tell me?!”
“Yes."
Scott wrapped his arms around a, now crying, Jean, “You don’t do that.”
Peter shook his head, he was pissed at himself for not moving fast enough to stop Magneto from taking Y/N. Kurt was confused on what just happened. Well, everyone was because none of them thought that Charles would do this. He always talked about how horrible it was that people would use mutants and then he went and did that to her. Practically using her to not get too strong. Making her be someone she didn’t want to be.
All of them blamed Charles for this. But hell, even Charles blamed himself.

WAIT for the ask game... marvel comics <3
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): ok the og blorbo is spiderman <3 nowadays and overall, probably Rogue?
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): maybe Ms Marvel? like’s she’s kamala nerdy-young-avenger khan and also I read her comics mostly when I was an awkward teen. OH also Jubilee <3 my baby cosplay blorbo
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): ngl i’m out of the loop who’s even underappreciated these days?? let’s just say the starjammers are not appreciated By Me as much as they should be I feel very fond of them when I remember they exist
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): my most ‘obscure’ fave (and I am cheating here) is Morph from the xmen show. also kind of a skrunkly. male diversity hire for the wolverine fridging department. makes me insane.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): Gambit is like the blueprint for pathetic men. also flash thompson in his roommates with spiderman era early on. perfection.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): you know what’s sad is my gut impulse as an xmen fan is to say Scott, but in the scale of things he’s notthatbadiguesseurgh. so tony stark.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): me and Nightcrawler would visit Dante’s inferno style <3 also to see his dad unless they retconned that
#i need to actually like. get back into comics#the last thing i read like at the time was civil war two lmaooo#but theyre EXPENSIVE#asks#thanks ella!

Current X-book Mood-Ring Guide
There are an awful lot of X-books on the shelves right now. They are most of my monthly haul. No joke it is at least 12 books at this point. So, in order to cope with that, I’ve organized all the books into one of four different categories, aka “booster-pack” themes. Click through if you want to jump aboard the best X-men run since Morrison before the boat pushes off for the Hellfire Gala this summer! These are the 4 categories:
-Mainline Blue/Gold-style
-Jr. Mutants Academy
-2nd-Wave Krakoa Niche (aka “the good stuff”)
-Cetera
#1. Mainline Blue/Gold-style
Mood-color/vibe: Actually 90s-style Blue/Gold and like bright primary colors (but also muddy-ass colors from X-factor).
Books included: X-men, Excalibur, Marauders, X-force
Typical Pokemon: Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Betsy Braddock, Kate Pride, Beast, Black Tom, Storm, Bishop, Emma Frost, Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, Kid Omega, Domino, a Pyro, Iceman, Avalanche. Rare drops: Apocalypse, X-23, Synch, Darwin, Kid Cable, Fantomex (in that Giant-Sized!)
These be the books for someone who wants those direct, mainline, core-members-style lineups. On the main book (adjective/word-play-less X-men) Hickman/Yu have worked wonders with their run, but it hasn’t been a stable team, instead focusing on Scott and his adventures dealing with some of the more prominent threats to Krakoa.
So it’s essentially been a revolving door of a book with Cyclops sometimes leading assaults against major problems and sometimes just being a dad to teenagers from the future, and it’s been generally great.
Meanwhile, the teams we find on the other 3 books could basically be a main X-men team if you just throw Jean/Scott/Logan onto them (except for X-force because Logan is usually on that one, actually, and Jean sort of is..)
X-force: Wolverine usually, Kid Omega, Beast, Jean (quitting?/back-up), Domino sorta, Sage, Black Tom Cassidy, Colossus once? Forge sorta. [Lot’s of backup or sometimes-members on this team but kinda centers on Beast, Omega, Wolverine and Jean or Domino]
Excalibur: Betsy Braddock, Rogue, Jubilee, Gambit, Avalanche, baby/dragon Shogo, Apocalypse (honorary, mia)
Marauders: Kate Pride, Storm, Emma Frost, a Pyro, Iceman, Bishop
On X-force, you get a little Morrison-homage energy going on what with Beast being sus, Quentin Quire having a character arc and dating a cuckoo and then all the body-horror. This one hasn’t been amazing and the art sometimes has issues for me but it’s been a solid expansion on Krakoa-Era lore.
On Marauders, you get a book centered on Kate Pride and the Hellfire Club. It’s been aight but I’m not the biggest Kate fan. Definitely has heart and the art has been beautiful.
Excalibur started a little weird for me... I lack the references or attachment to Otherworld or Davis/Moore-era Excalibur so I don’t think I’m even really the target demo, but I will say it recently, post-X of Swords-- which it set up single-handedly basically [along w/ one ish of X-men]-- has gotten more interesting in recent months. The Betsy + Kwannon stuff was great! And Howard did great with Apocalypse before he went off to another dimension. (points off for iffy color-palettes sometimes).
#2. Jr. Mutants Academy
Mood-color/vibe: Pastel
Books: New Mutants, X-factor, Children of the Atom, Cable
Common Pokemon: Magik, Cable, Rachel Summers, Doug, Warlock, Armor, Boom Boom, Scout, Dani, Warpath, Karma, Glob, Beak, Daken, Eye-boy, North Star, Rachael, Prodigy those Children of the Atom kids, Magma, Rahne, and a lot of lil kid mutants runnin’ around in Akademos/the Wild Hunt area of Krakoa whose names I don’t know yet.
This is the junior-crew club. New Mutants would be in the Blue/Gold books practically due to being part of the first wave of post-HoX/DoX books, but its basically been 3 different books/teams over its run and along w/ Children/Cable/X-Factor, it feels like there a whole handful of books offering up junior-crew shenanigans specifically.
So New Mutants has been all over the place, starting with a lineup of OG Claremont era New Muties, then focusing on a team consisting of Glob, Armor and Boom Boom (perpetual...young adult” I guess?), now settling on a new team under Vita Ayala with Magik and Warpath heading up a squad of young ‘uns (beautiful art on the recent stretch). Hopefully it’s settling into its self now, because I can see longevity for this new squad... maybe.
I still have to read the 2nd issue of Children of the Atom, but am intrigued by it. X-factor meanwhile seems to be focusing on queer representation with people like Prodigy, Daken, North Star and Rachel on the same group together. Polaris started out the lead of that title only to be plucked out by Duggan (or the fanbase) for the main X-team coming up. This honestly makes sense, because even though she isn’t drawn this way, shouldn’t Polaris be considerably older than someone like Rachel? Eh.
Also, in issue #4 of X-factor we had a beautiful homage to the Academy X mutants, with several cameos, so it seems like Marvel is intentionally using these junior-crew books to acknowledge all the various junior-crews, whether it be OG Claremont kids, Generation X people, the kids intro’d under Morrison and Whedon, or even the dang ‘ol Academy X ones, they seem to all be getting at least some representation in some book.
Also Cable owns. Didn’t know I’d like the Kid-Cable guy until this book and his appearances in the main title, but now it’s confirmed. Him dating Esme, Kid Omega dating Phoebe? These crazy telepaths! Anyway, I hope Duggan’s main-team book is more like Cable than Marauders, in terms of pacing and characterization, but they both have beautiful art!
New mutants: Karma, Magik, Mirage, Scout, Warlock, Warpath and Wolfsbane
X-factor: Daken, Eye-boy, Polaris (quit?), North Star, Rachael, Prodigy
#3. 2nd-gen Krakoa Niche aka “the good stuff”
mood-color/vibe: purples, metaphysical/cosmic pallets, tertiary colors
books included: Hellions, S.W.O.R.D., Way of X
common Pokemon: I mean they’re basically all rare drops
This is the good stuff! Who would have thought. And when I think about it, Way of X and S.W.O.R.D., as part of the second wave of Krakoa-era books that started with Cable, both address some of the core issues and ideas that the whole HoX/DoX mini kicked off better than-- or at least more directly-- the other books. So I guess the non X-men, first-wave Krakoa books feel “mainline” in terms of their team lineups, but in terms of content, these newer ones almost feel more relevant by design. S.W.O.R.D. focuses on the cosmic context of the mutants post-Krakoa and Way is Kurt’s first spot-light moment in the era and is expressly concerned with Kurt’s addressing of the deeper moral quandaries that a people who have conquered death will be faced with. I mean, it's expressly about religion and like, spirituality-- a very tall order, but first issue pulled it off super deftly.
Also Hellions is better than it has any business being! Read this if you want savagely dark humor and some very obscure mutants + Havok/Psylocke/Sinister. But if I had to reccomend one, it’d be a tie b/w S.W.O.R.D and Way. First issue of Way was exceptional and got right into things and Kurt’s very well-written and will surely prove a meditative lead for a book like this, whereas S.W.O.R.D is epic in scale while still have sick character moments/dialogue. Manifold had a great issue or two and is now my favorite new mutant, even in the context of a somehow-actually-good King in Black tie-in. Damn! And everything going on b/w Magneto and Fabian Cortez (who was made to argue for why mutants should be allowed to murder “flatscans”/humans to the whole Krakoan council this week whilst naked. It’s fantastic. Hell, even the Snark-War sounds...interesting? What’s happening to me.
S.W.O.R.D.: Fabian Cortez, Magneto, Abigail Brand, Peeper, Manifold, Wiz-Kid, Mentallo, Fenzy
Children of the Atom: Cherub, Marvel Guy, Cyclops-Lass (?), Gimmick, Daycrawler
Hellions: Havok, Psylocke, Empath, Orphan-Maker, Nanny, Wild Child, Sinister, Greycrow
#4. Cetera
Mood-color/vibe: colorless, “normal” element
Books included: Fallen Angels (complete 6-ish mini), All the damn Wolverine books, the uh Sword of X “guidebook” and the new Peach Momoko Demon Days books and whatever X-men Legends is.
These are titles which are either complete or don’t fit in with other things or in Demon Days or the X-men Legends’ books’ case, I think don’t even occur in-universe. And per usual of course there are multiple Wolverine books... the main one seems fine.
Anyway all-in-all, these books are doing weirdly well. Mutants as a concept shouldn't be able to be spread this thin story-telling wise, but the books don’t really feel redundant and most are filling a specific niche or purpose. I may be dropping some of the first-wave Blue/Gold style books (Marauders and X-force I'll probably just check in on from time-to-time), but S.W.O.R.D., Way, the main book under Hickman or Duggan and Hellions all have me verrrrrry satisfied. Even standard stories in the Krakoa era feel special, and that speaks to the power of Hickman’s vision. Hellfire Gala, here we come.

Hestia for the character ask!
favorite thing about them: I LOVE SO MUCH ABOUT HER!! Probably how she will literally go up to any cat and be like “i’m going to use the power of friendship to make you not evil anymore! ✨” and it freaking WORKS (hey, it worked on Sekhmet and Ares... she’s on a roll).
least favorite thing about them: HONEY PLEASE STOP MAKING ME WRITE AUS AND STORIES ABOUT YOU! I LOVE YOU BUT PLEASE
brOTP: Hestia, Jubilee, Ares, and Sekhmet (the OGs!!), Hestia and the Ghost Siblings, Hestia and any of the Tuggoffelees kids OCs, Hestia and Jemima, Hestia and Dejinti (her new baby brother!)
OTP: Hestia x Tumblebrutus baby!!
nOTP: Hestia x any of the Tuggoffelees kids OCs, Hestia x any of the adults, Hestia x Jubilee, Hestia x Jemima, Hestia x Macavity/anyone connected to him
random headcanon: Sometimes, when she’s really nervous or feeling anxious, she’ll just play with her pocket watch, flicking it open and closed, and toying with the little winder on top.
unpopular opinion: I love her more than anything, but I really want to split my attention equally with my OCs! I’d love to write more shorts about Quasi and Jitterbug.
song i associate with them: Téir Abhaile Riú by the Celtic Women
favorite picture of them:
(art done by the AMAZING @johnnylonzo)(i’m STILL CRYING OVER HOW BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT THIS IS)

Galavant Sci-fi au
Star Wars. Doesn’t exist right now. All these headcanons are based on tropes and Star Wars with it’s deep lore has probably shook that trope up that I use as evidence. Star Wars is just too unique with too deep of lore that every entry I make will probably have to start or end with Star Wars did it or didn’t do that. Like I don’t need Star Wars lore to thrown at me to say that this trope is used in every sci-fi thing, with Star Wars being an exception. It’s Star Wars of course they did it or didn’t do it that one time. Star Wars is too special to be painted with broad strokes of no sci-fi show has a human government like this or whatever example I use. So I thought I’ll be upfront. I pretended Star Wars isn’t Sci-fi when looking at these tropes for all our sanities. Also I may reference other things in Sci-fi shows as shorthand for what I am talking about. It will probably just be things like Startrek. You know super popular and well known but if there is confusion let me know.
ao3
Galavant is a captain of a spaceship. He is human because there hasn’t been that many popular sci-fi media with an alien space captain as the lead. His dad was also in this universe’s version of Starfleet. I’ll call them Knights. His dad went missing. Gal found him years later stranded on a planet with a whole bunch of alien children he was protecting. Probably the only au I made where Gal wasn’t mad at his dad.
Isabella is an alien. Human societies tend not to explore many different forms of government and I can’t think of any monarchy. Alien planets tend to be more willing to explore different forms of government. So if a writer wanted a monarchy in their Space Opera. Alien. I would say her planet would combine the medieval aesthetic of the show but would still have the tech of this universe. Her life probably wouldn’t be that different growing up. The only major differences before the plots of the show would be the tech and that she’s an alien. She ends up being the representative of her race for the Knights.
Sid could be both to be honest. Human or alien. He could be a human adopted by aliens or an alien adopted by humans. I’d say his parents died in a battle and was left to one of their friends in the army to raise. He is Galavant’s second in command. He joined in the hopes to explore the universe.
Madelena is one of those beautiful psychic aliens, like the Asari from Mass Effect. I’d say she can use these powers to change how people see her (shapeshifting but her physical form stays the same everyone else just sees her as something else.), read minds and can bend people to her will. Also illusions. She is one of the most politically powerful people in her race, using her powers for her own gains.
Gareth is also an alien. A warrior one like the Krogan from Mass Effect or the Klingon. He made most of his money from mercenary work and is one of Madelena’s favorite warriors to hire. People suspect that there is a romantic tie to them but the idea makes a lot of people angry at the very idea. A beautiful alien that everyone wants to sleep with and an ugly brute, but no one would say that to their faces.
Wormwood (wedding planner)- He’s like Q from Star Trek. A powerful alien no one understands and does what he wants. He allied with Madelena because she seemed the most interesting to align himself with.
Roberta is human. Her family was a part of the Knights for generations. Out of all the Knights Steingas is the most respected name. She joined the knights at eighteen. She would be a red shirt in the OG Star Trek. Not like marked for death but she would be in the military specialization.
Richard I got two head cannons an alien one and a human one.
The human one he is a disgraced ship captain. He took Madelena on board his ship because he thought she needed help but she stole a bunch of information, and it almost cost Richard his life. He was charged with treason but was saved when his brother Senator Kingsley pulled some strings. He was labeled incomptent and fired. He had no hope of redemption until Roberta showed up on a mission he accidentally got involved in. Roberta managed to use her Steingas name to get Richard into the Knights as a soldier like her when the mission was completed. Richard ends up falling for her after that.
Alien Richard would be born on a monarchy planet like Isabella but it got destroyed by Madelena making him go on the run as the King of the planet. He ends up joining The Knights in the hopes to protect others from his home’s fate. He would be in a political section though. Makes first contact and makes deals with other aliens.
Chef is an alien from a poverty stricken planet. He is the ship’s cook and falls in love with ships medic/robot Gwynn.
Gwynn was built for medical purposes. And is one of the first AI’s made to start experiencing emotions. The idea was that a Doctor Robot should be able to simulate emotions because sometimes you need a chipper doctor but at other times your doctor cheerfully telling you your father is dead is not good. That was the main reason people struggled to have medical AI. They couldn’t give bedside care and give bad news. Gwynn was supposed to change that. But what happened was her inventors accidentally programmed emotions into her. No one knew until she fell in love with the chef. She was hesitant to get into a relationship like in the show but now it’s because she was literally not programmed for this and was confused and a bit scared. Chef was very patient with her.
Jester is a pilot. He reminds me of Wash and Joker. He is considered an alright guy to come to if you need someone to cheer you up. He also has a bit of a reputation for being a playboy.
The pirates full of humans and aliens alike. Though the captain is an alien because a lot of other space ships in sci fi media mix things up with alien side ships. They are sometimes friends to The Knights when they give information about the criminal world or sell stolen goods. Other times a major pain in the ass for the knights, stealing from them or their allies. Or The Knights were fucking with one of their criminal allies.
Jubilee is an alien. She and her family was a part of a planet wide rebellion. The Knights came to their aide and placed Jubilee’s parent’s on the throne. She doesn’t like the idea of her planet being a part of another government’s hold, even if the planet is under an alliance a large portion of the galaxy is in. She figures the idea of leaving the thumb of one forgin government to jump into the arms of another is idotic. And is working on a second rebellion.
Enchanted Forest was an abandoned planet. But soon a group of queer people abandoned by their families or societies mistreated them made sort of a found family and settled there. They soon set out and found more queers to bring to the planet. And soon any queer kid that needs a place to stay knows where to go. The planet is of course forested with weird sci-fi plants to make it look magical. And ships are leaving all the time hunting for other queers.

Thoughts on Powers of X #4
Into the home stretch:
Good Times At Bar Sinister:
In retrospect, this may be the weakest issue of HoX/PoX and the closest that the miniseries come to a filler issue. Partly that’s to do with its role in the overall story: this is a denoument issue after the fireworks of the last two issues, and it’s also there to make sure that House of #5′s big reveal/undoing of the climax wasn’t literally the next week’s issue. On the other hand, it’s also probably the funniest issue in the miniseries, so I’d still call it a pretty good comic.
In this first segment, Magneto and Charles track down Mister Sinister on his ominous red crystal island, which continues the motif of ominous towers. When this is happening isn’t clear. We’re still in X^0, but Charles’ flying chair makes its first (only?) appearance suggests that it’s been a while. I really hope Powers of X #6 gives us a better Life 10 timeline, because some of these ordering questions are confusing.
The Guard Sinister sets the tone right off the bat - as we might expect from someone whose morality was shaped by Victorian England, Sinister is perfectly comfortable with being the “yes we have much” and telling the have nots to go away; but at the same time, being very into Aesthetics (note the first of many punctation for emphasis) and style, so that we’re not so much dealing with a guard as a club bouncer grading their outfits.
The clash with Xavier’s grey businessman’s suit and politesse and the vibe at Bar Sinister is immediately apparent, although Magneto’s similarly aggressive Aesthetic is clearly close enough to get them into the club even if Magneto wasn’t up for hurling Sinisters into rocks for being rude to his boyfriend who he kind of crippled although not in the 616 Charles.
Inside the club, the vibe is a weird blend of Edwardian-by-way-of-Lewis-Carroll and the fantasy medievalism of Melniboné. As we are introduced to Sinister the Capeless, I have to say that I find the version of Mister Sinister we get here really interesting, because what’s happening is a shift from glam to camp that’s been there from Kieron Gillen’s run and which has cropped up in Hickman’s earlier work. None of the Aesthetics have changed at all, it’s just that we’ve subtracted the self-seriousness that was sometimes there with the OG Sinister and added a sense of knowing humor to the whole affair. Doesn’t make it any less terrifying when Sinister the Capeless turns on a dime from “I. Love. That. Cape” to Red Queen murderousness - clearly we’re dealing with someone who is both highly powerful, highly intelligent, but also totally nonsensical.
Incidentally, as lines that would work great as t-shirt slogans go, “I can’t be shamed into changing who I am” has got to be up there. Also, very thematically appropriate for HoX/PoX as a whole.
At long last, Xavier and Magneto finally get to the reason why they’ve come to the Bar Sinister: they want Mister Sinister to build “a comprehensive database of mutant DNA” that is “safe. secure.redundant.” More than anything else, this feels like the (necessary?) evil of the founding of Krakoa. Other villainous mutants can be dealt with on the basis of ideology or self-interest or just dealt with, as we saw in House of X #6, but Mister Sinister is really the only one who has made himself indispensable to the broader mission.
However, this is all being done with the foreknowledge that Mister Sinister betrayed the mutant cause in Moira’s most recent life, so I don’t think this is being done out of typical Xavierian hubris.
The reaction is rather surprising: Capeless Sinister refuses out of aesthetic objections to the inclusion of “that aberrant gene” in his collection, which is not consistent with his previous characterization (although given the “they’re all crazy clones” thing, there’s an explanation right there), but is in keeping with Victorian eugenics. (I like Magneto’s very carefully worded lie about the future.)
And then finally we get the Mister Sinister we all know and love, complete with ribbon cape and everything, but him showing up blowing off another Sinister’s head with a handgun is weirdly jarring, like a sudden intrusion from some violent cartoon universe. On the other hand, “my mutant power is overthrowing tyrants and being absolutely fabulous” feels way more like the Sinister we know, and suggests that the hatchet is not buried with Apocalypse)
I like that Magneto is kind of into all of this, because for all that he can be Serious Business sometimes, he’s also someone who’s deeply into his own Aesthetic of overthrowing governments while being fashion-forward.
So here’s the thing about Xavier mind-controlling Sinister into forgetting why he’s doing all of this: I don’t think this is the whole of the plan to deal with Sinister’s sudden but inevitable betrayal. I think part of the point is to maintain quality control over the database, given the whole business with the deliberately-engineered quality control failures in LIfe 9. But I feel like Moira would insist on more redundancy than just relying on one psychic whammy sticking.
Red Diamond Blind Items Infographic:
Speaking of comedy...this definitely is the funniest infographic we’ve gotten throughout the series. A bunch of these went way over my head, lots of them ended up as dropped plot threads which we’ll have to wait for Dawn of X to see if they get followed up on, but they were all entertaining.
Sinister Secret #1: this one is kind of vague, and I’m 99% certain it’s just a gossip columnist being catty about shoes. Incidentally, Louis XIV loved red heels so much that he decreed no one other than him could wear them.
Sinister Secret #2: in addition to being a clue about the Resurrection Machine bringing back all kinds of dead mutants, I like how this one continues one of the best elements of Grant Morrison’s run - the idea that mutants start developing a distinct culture - but now with a twist that it’s going to be happening even more that Krakoa is giving that culture a safe space to flourish.
Sinister Secret #3: Especially what with all the hints about Inferno throughout HoX/PoX, this is definitely about Madelyn Pryor. Dunno what she left behind, but it could well be some sort of resurrection failsafe.
Sinister Secret #4: no idea what this refers to.
Revealed! Of all the X-genes out there for Sinister to use, why John Proudstar? It doesn’t fit with the powers he’s displayed in previous runs, and the only thing I could think of is that Proudstar is the first of the All-New X-Men to die (making it easier to get samples).
Sinister Secret #5: especially in the wake of House of X #6, this suggests that Scott and Jean are in a poly relationship/open marriage of some sort with Logan and/or Emma, and that the new mutant culture is developing its own values on sexuality and family structure, what with the First Law.
Sinister Secret #6: the HoXPoxToX on this issue gives the relevant citation, but I didn’t read the book so I don’t know which of the samples Ernst stole were supposedly destroyed.
Sinister Secret #7: this is a pretty clear reference to the whole messy continuity business about there being a third Summers brother, but also a nice hint that Sinister is completely full of shit and so these blind items have to be taken with a whole salt lick. (Incidentally, we’ve seen Vulkan showing up in promotional materials for Dawn of X, so that’s probably the Summers in question, which means we can finally stop talking about dumb theories about it being random male X-Men).
Sinister Secret #8: again with the pretender talk, but the real clue here is that Apocalypse’s major motivation is getting his original Horsemen back, which is significant for the next section.
Sinister Secret #9: especially with the reveal that Synch has been resurrected, this is pretty clearly referring to him and Jubilee, who are now at very different places in their lives post-resurrection.
Revealed! As I’ve talked about before, Inferno is a running theme in HoX/PoX, and to be honest, if the new status quo of X-Men is going to involve any nostalgia riffs, it’s a good choice because it hasn’t been over-done as much as Days of Future Past, and ties in well with issues of clones, demons, and Sinister.
Sinister Secret #10: as I suggested above, the fact that Xavier saw all kinds of Sinisters running around suggests that he wasn’t relying on that tactic alone to safeguard his mutant future.
Linguistic Anthropology with Doug Ramsey:
So let’s talk about pith helmets - on the one hand, this is a callback to Cassandra Nova, but it’s an inversion: where Nova donned the helmet to show a Trask the instrument of mutant genocide, Xavier is wearing it to show a mutant a crucial part of the plan to reverse the Genoshan genocide. On the other, it’s a deliberately colonialist fashion statement: namely, that as with earlier attempts at establishing a mutant nation - San Marco, Genosha, Utopia, etc. - the mutant homeland is not unoccupied land and mutants are thus not entirely innocent of this particular sin of nation-states, whatever Magneto might say. Not the first and last time that nationalist projects have made this mistake.
Charles talks a good game about moving from adversary to ally with the land, but as we’ll see in just a bit he doesn’t understand Krakoa as much as he thinks he does, which undercuts his good intentions.
Doug introduces the techno-organic virus to Krakoa, which is significant both for the whole issue of biological vs. mechanical transhumanism and singularity, the potential threat from the Phalanx in X^3, but also is a sign that introducing new species to a habitat (something that’s happened quite often in the history of settler colonialism) is an easy overlooked problem.
I love the idea that the difference between telepathy and hyperlingualism is the difference between pidgin and anthropological thick description. Xavier might be able to hear anyone’s thoughts, but that doesn’t necessarily means that he understands said thoughts.
By contrast, Doug’s greater understanding means that he learns Krakoa’s origin myth, and is thematically appropriate for this series it’s a story of unity and division. The linkage between demonic incursions and Arakko/No-Place suggests Inferno, even as the Twilight Sword points to Surtur and Walt Simonson’s run on Thor. The key thing here, however, is that Apocalypse is portrayed as a tragic hero, sacrificing his original horsemen to seal away the demonic invasion and dividing the land - as Apocalypse wants to bring the OG Horsemen back more than anything, this would suggest that seal will be rebroken, causing a lot of chaos, but ultimately leading to the reunion of a sundered land.
As a reward for his insight, Doug is one of the few people who learn the whole plan, which places his “hopey-changey” comments from the very first issue in a different light.
Current Krakoan Systems Infographic:
I’m going to be brief here, because we already saw these systems in action last issue.
Here, the first thing I want to emphasize is how crucial Doug is to the founding of Krakoa - every single other system relies on his interface system. At the same time, we also learn that Forge is running the Krakoan skunkworks system which creates the biomachinery that all of Krakoa will run on as well. In other words, one founder creates the software and one founder creates the hardware. It’s yet another example of the Krakoan emphasis on accomplishing greater things through cooperation and creativity (and how very much this is a story about nationalism and not cults of personality).
We Hope for Ascension:
I gotta say, I’m with a lot of other people who don’t get why this particular X^3 plot was chosen. It’s harder to grasp and the characters don’t have anywhere as near as much to connect with as X^2. That being said, I have some guesses, which will probably all be proven wrong tomorrow!
As I discussed the last time we saw the post-humans, the difference between conversion and ascension are much less clear than they first appeared...unless (unless...) we’re talking about the whole issue of the philosophy of identity. As the Elder points out, if your culture already has the idea of a self and a seer-self who’s already uploaded into a machine, are you really dying if your body dies? As I’ll get into way more in House of X #5, the argument that the post-resurrection mutants are clones and not the “real McCoys” rests on a particularly strong case of continuity of consciousness that I don’t think holds up to scrutiny.
At the same time, I do think we see here some signs of cultural weakness among the post-humans: they can’t tolerate the idea of being just short of the next step of consciousness/intelligence and are willing to do anything to achieve the goal of achieving the next schematic stage in machine consciousness development, because “isn’t that what’s next.” Except the problem is that it’s a rigged game - there’s always another level, always another Phalanx using you as a Technarch patsy, and it’s not clear from the outset whether these higher stages are all they’re cracked up to be.
Incidentally, I totally misinterpreted what happened here. Initially, I thought that the “seer-self”/recognition sequence thing suggested a way around losing “ sovereignty “ by introducing a memetic virus, given the way that the Phalanx undergo a sudden physical transformation. This doesn’t seem to be the case based on Powers of X #5.
How are the Phalanx not an empire? All they do is expand, consume resources, and either wipe out or “elevate” other cultures on the basis of their own ideas of cultural worthiness. That is the very definition of imperialism!
And here we see the bedrock incompatibility of biological and mechanical transhumanism/singularity.

Motivations: Storm is the leader but doesn't believe in herself and doesn't fully know how to control her powers. NC is confused as to the idea of having to hide how he looks/his powers because in the circus he was celebrated for those attributes (he's probably the youngest on the team and sort of naive to the world). Jubilee doesn't know why she's on the team and feels kinda useless (but she isn't). Colossus is a shy boy who doesn't like being thought of as a tough and rutheless guy (1/2)
And finally Quick Silver is a bit of a dickhead. His super speed has led him to think he can have/do whatever he wants and he doesn't know why he isn't the leader of the team. As for the OG X-Men (who in my movie are Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Emma Frost) are in fact their teachers and take more of a mentor stance rather than a team stance. I want to say maybe they're busy with some bigger threat that the B-Squad can't deal with?? I don't know yet (2/2)
OH ALMOST FORGOT!! When our team becomes a team they're initially made to wear the outfits suits that look like the OG 40s X-Men suits. The costumes become an allegory for their growth. By the end of the movie, when the epic final fight comes along Jubilee has actually designed and made them each a suit that is unique to who they are (based off of Dave Cockrum's designs) representing how they are now a team (hence the X's on all their outfits) but also true to themselves as people.
this is a definite would-watch... i think the proposed personalities are really good... something XM:EVO lacked was kurt’s circus backstory and i think that ‘hey a diguise this is what the audience ate up what’s going on’ as a factor in that internal confict is really good. i LOVE love love jubi as the one who outfits them with a sense of individuality, excellent excellent excellent... she’s never been adapted well in moving image (altho ig in the cartoon) also tbh again pietro with the meaner personality is honestly...i super prefer i like him as being a bit more abrasive than just ‘chill dude helping ‘cuz whatever ig’
the idea of the junior team/b-squad (i like that) is also something that like...they almost tried to do with apocalypse but the story was like...trying to focus too hard in too many places and i think it would have been in a film’s best interest to have the main focus be on the junior team so i’m all for them being the b-plot in the world but the a-plot of the story we watch (like...how its implied in shaun of the dead that the characters we follow are in like, the lower-budget movie happening in the same world as the zombie blockbuster flick, you know?)
ohfudghd you know...i can really just Picture This... thank u for sharing these ideas with me

I haven't posted in a few days. I have been so busy. I completed a rather busy week at work and am now entering a 47 hour work week which is gonna be rather tiring. I am 10am until 10.15pm tomorrow. Its going to be one grueling week but I'm not gonna complain because its good money. I however do know how tough it's gonna be here at home and the kids will miss me so I've been trying to make it nice for them here, I went to their "jubilee picnic" (the capitalist picnic as I called it, I don't agree with it at all). The school decided to hire a giant speaker and blast the nation anthem between each song, it was awful.😅
Now the kids are off I have to make it extra nice so I've ordered a giant CRAZY food shop ,with a bunch of snacks in it, to come on the 1st so we can spend our Wednesday munching on stuff and having a laugh before I go do the close shift, yesterday I spent time with them watching movies, I took Elijah to the library earlier while I went and printed the parcel labels for some stuff I'm getting rid of, I immediately took him to the comic book section and then tonight I probably emotionally scarred them because I found my old playlist on Spotify and it had all the OG emo hits on it so I've spent my night doing what is probably a forms of interperative dance for them while singing and they now think I am crazier than before. 😅
I think the only thing I've actually done for myself is watch the entirety of the new stranger things in a 24 hour sitting in 2 lots because the first time I nodded off (I am old and tired now) and then woke up and started watching it from where I nodded off. I felt like such a grandma, I'm not even 30 yet, I'm 28, I'm meant to still have 2 good years yet before I start decomposing and napping. 🤣
Fingers crossed I can get through this week.

The truth is shrouded in more mystery than Jean Greys Phoenix saga. Excelsior!

Jean Grey #9
Marvel really needs to stop teasing me. First, they give me back my favorite character of all time (in her inarguably *best* uniform) and now they’re putting Jean Grey (the original) and Emma Frost in the same panel? On multiple pages? Is this real life??
Okay, that’s a bit over dramatic but, in some ways, an overreaction is kinda warranted. I’m not really sure how many other Emma/Jean shippers there are out there, but I doubt I’m the only one because this pair was made for one another. Sure, on the surface they’ve always been fighting over Scott, but in reality they’d be perfect together. Both of them are a little insane and a little too ambitious, but, at their roots, they’re good people. I think they’d balance each other out really well - while still retaining their sassy tempers.
And, what would be better than seeing two classic X-Men come out as bisexual? In comics, a lot of the fairly new characters are LGBTQ, but the older characters rarely get that same treatment. (Unless you’re in Bombshells. Then you’re definitely gay.) Marvel would be making a huge statement if they paired these two together - one that matches the X-Men’s founding statement perfectly. They’re supposed to metaphorically represent underprivileged groups and in a lot of ways they do. The various teams include people of different races, ethnicities, religions, genders and sexual orientations. There are multiple bisexual and gay women including Mystique, Karma, Jubilee, and Bling. But, I still think Marvel would be making a positive impact on the X-Men franchise if they made one of the founding members bisexual. Surely they’ve seen the huge amount of positive feedback on the Legend of Korra series where the love triangle between Korra, Asami and Mako turns into a relationship between the two girls. But, alas, the mention of Scott in this issue of Jean Grey and the impending Dark Phoenix movie make the idea of a future romance between Emma and Jean seem a little far-fetched, unfortunately. There’s always fanfiction.
Emma/Jean ship aside, this comic was amazing. The Jean Grey series has not always impressed me, but ever since they stopped the cheesy Phoenix “teaching” issues (they were slightly too one-shot-y for me) and brought back the OG Jean Grey, things have gotten really interesting. The issue starts with lil Jean dying in the back of an ambulance while Emma and ghost OG Jean bitch at each other. In issue 8, lil Jean went on a journey through the New-X-men era portion of Emma’s memory and found a missing “spark” of the Phoenix, tucked away inside the memory of Scott. After finding the piece, lil Jean’s mind can’t handle it and she starts to become engulfed in flames. OG Jean attempts to remedy the situation by possessing lil Jean, but she quickly realizes things are much worse than she expected when she hears their (the two Jean’s) “soul scream”. Emma, always equipped with a plan, steals a hospital helicopter and flies the two Jean’s to Westchester, where she meets up with the remaining Cuckoos in the hopes of ridding lil Jean’s body of the Phoenix spark. In the end, Quentin Quire shoots lil Jean with a telepathic bullet, which seemingly causes her to go back to normal. Hope Summers shows up on a copy of a Mad-Max rocket and tells everyone what everyone probably already knew: that the Phoenix is here. Not coming, here. Lil Jean confirms it and then all hell breaks loose.
A lot of big things happened in this issue that will **hopefully** affect things across the Marvel universe. The return of the Phoenix is a pretty monumental event that must have something to do with the OG Jean coming back in the flesh. Phoenix Resurrection comes out in about a month, so Marvel is clearly setting up the new mini-series. At the moment, the character of lil Jean seems more and more insignificant. Sure, she’s in this issue, but she’s hardly starring in it. The show goes to OG Jean and Emma.
I’m really hoping 2018 sees the end of the time-displaced X-Men and the return of some New X-Men styled writing. I like X-Men Blue but it sometimes comes off as a pretty childish...probably because all of the characters are teenagers. The founding X-Men had their childhood, way back in the 60’s. Please just let them be adults again, with adult problems and adult vocabularies. I guess I’m asking a lot from Marvel with this review, but so far, they’ve done a really good *magically* answering all my plebian pleas. Just please, Marvel, give me some more Emma/Jean ship-worthy panels. That’s mostly what I’m asking for...mostly…
That and more surrealism-inspired covers!
