Doing Jenna's route now after Flynn's ended with that eerie shot of her as a kid. Not gonna finish cuz I'm not staying up that late again. But damn I'm impressed at just how different the story's going with the change in route. And the horror showed up earlier too which. Woof.
Anyway I ended at the start of Friday so. That'll be fun to deal with
#echo vn#echo project#probably gonna do tj next#i'm. aware now that i'm doing the routes in the reverse order as recommended by the community whzjsjsjjcjsx#if the much earlier horror now is any indication at least flynn's route is not an outlier for the absolute whiplash of a finale that was#i think i needed to do jenna's route after flynn tho. with just how nice she is after the emotional rollercoaster of hooking up with flynn#the slowburn kinda cheesy romance was very nice. interspersed with me being even more on edge than the first time#now that i've had my expectations set#i've been repeating “this game is a horror fantasy for when you fuck your friends and the world falls apart” in my head

could you do a obx fic where jj is sick and his little sister (maybe reader or if you need a name you could use tj) passed it to him (by little i mean a few years younger) and either kiara or reader takes care of him and his sister because they're both super sick (it could be a bad virus or bug)
but it's totally up to you
Kiara was sitting on the couch at the chateau when she heard the front door suddenly open. She looked at John B questioningly, were they expecting anyone. He shrugged and got up to see who it was.
"John B?" a voice called from the front room. JJ. They hadn't heard from him hardly all week, he'd been taking care of his little sister Camryn all week since she'd caught the flu or something.
Kiara got up and followed John B to say hi to JJ but stopped short when she saw him. He had Camryn with him, holding her against his chest. But he was pale and shaking, looking like the effort of holding his five year old sister was too much. Not to mention the black eye and the dark purple bruise on his side, peeking through the arm hole of his cutoff tank top.
"Jesus JJ what happened?" John B spoke after a moment of silence.
"Hey Cam, can I take you for a second?" Kiara asked, waiting for the little girl to nod before she grabbed her under the arms and lifted her away from JJ to hold on her own hip. "You feeling better?" she asked, turning and walking back toward the living room. She gave John B a look that said 'start dealing with this' as she walked away. Cam didn't need to see or hear any more than she probably already had.
"JJ?" John B asked again. He hadn't said a word yet and looked on the verge of passing out.
"Think I caught Cam's bug," JJ said finally, after a long moment of silence.
"Yeah, why don't you sit down dude, you're really not looking so good" John B said, nodding.
"Yeah. Not feeling so good either," JJ said, moving stiffly over to the ratty couch on the screened in porch. "I might hurl in a sec JB," he added.
"Jesus okay hang on," John B got up and dashed inside for a trash can before returning and setting it on the floor in front of JJ. For a minute, JJ just sat there, leaning over the bucket and breathing hard, but eventually he pitched forward with a gag and brought up a mouthful of what looked like mostly stomach acid and bile.
"Shit, alright," John B cursed, scooting closer to his friend to put a hand on his back.
When JJ was finished dry heaving, having nothing in his stomach to actually bring up, John B went back inside to get a cup of water for him. After a few hesitant sips, JJ set the cup down, slumping against the arm of the couch. The position allowed his tank top to slip even further off of his body, revealing how far the bruise on his side extended over his stomach and chest.
"You gonna tell me what the hell happened now?" John B asked.
JJ sighed heavily. "Think you can probably guess," he shrugged.
Kie appeared in the doorway then, wincing as she took in the scene in front of her. John B gave her a pleading look, needing her to take over. He had no idea how to handle this situation. He'd never seen JJ like this.
"Why don't you take Cam down to the pier or something? I've got this," she said quietly. She slid onto the couch as John B got up, taking his place next to JJ.
"Thanks Kiara," he gave her a grateful smile, then headed into the other room to grab Cam and get her out of there.
"Hey Jayj," Kiara said softly, rubbing her hand up and down JJ's back.
"Hey Kie," JJ answered quietly from his slumped position.
"How about we get you laying down? That can't be comfortable," she said, wrapping an arm around his waist and pulling him off of the armrest. To her surprise, JJ was practically limp, letting her maneuver him to lay down, his head in her lap.
"Thanks," he muttered as she draped a blanket from the back of the couch over him, seeing as he was shivering despite the north carolina heat.
"Just try to sleep okay? I've got you," she said, even though his eyes were already slipping closed.
John B managed to keep Cam entertained outside until the sun started to set, and when they returned to the chateau they found JJ and Kiara laying on the cough together. She was awake, laying on her back with JJ pressed up against her, fast asleep on her chest.
Kiara flushed red with embarrassment but didn't move for fear of waking up the sick boy next to her. But John B didn't comment on it. He just gave her a smile as he pulled Cam into the kitchen with him to find them something to eat.
"How's he doing?" John B asked, walking back into the room a few minutes later with a bowl of mac and cheese for Kiara.
"Thank you," she said, managing to sit herself up a little without waking JJ so she could take the bowl from John B. "He's been in and out, but he pretty much throws up every time he wakes up and he's burning up," she added, answering John B's question.
"He tell you what happened?" he asked.
Kiara shook her head, "I haven't asked. Seems like it was bad this time."
"Yeah. You see the one on his stomach?" he asked.
She nodded grimly. This might be one of the worst they'd ever seen.
"Well I'm gonna go try to put Cam to bed and then I'll come back out. You need anything before I got?" John B asked.
"No, this is great, thank you," she said, gesturing to the empty bowl of pasta that she'd inhaled. She had been starving after laying here with JJ all day.
John B nodded, then headed back toward his bedroom, where Cam was playing with the few toys that were still laying around the chateau. He grabbed one of his t-shirts for her to change into and wear as a sort of nightgown, then helped her brush her teeth with her finger, since they hadn't brought anything from home with them.
"Are we staying here because Daddy hurt Jayjie?" she asked as John B tucked him in.
John B winced internally at the question, hoping it wouldn't come up. But of course she knew. She may have been little but she wasn't stupid. Even if she hadn't seen it happen she could sure as hell see her brother's bruised face.
"Yeah, but he's okay though. We're taking care of him," John B answered with as much positivity as he could manage. Truthfully he was worried about his friend, but she didn't need to know that.
"That's good. He always takes care of me," she nodded stoically.
"Well we'll take care of you too, okay?" John B said, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"Okay," she said, tears welling in her eyes. They didn't fall though, as she blinked them away. What a tough kid.
Meanwhile, JJ had woken up and managed to walk to the bathroom and back without passing out or throwing up. Kiara had even been able to make him drink a few sips of water.
"JJ..." Kiara started, trying to figure out how to ask him if he was okay even though he clearly wasn't.
"Don't Kie, plese," JJ said quickly.
Kiara sighed, "Why can't you just let someone in for once? I'm here for you JJ. We're here for you," she said in frustration. Why was he always so stubborn.
"Because if I talk about it, I'll start crying. And if I start, I don't know if I'll ever be able to stop," he said, staring straight ahead to avoid Kiara's eyes, full of sadness for him.
"It's okay to cry sometimes JJ," she said.
Her voice was so soft, her gentle touch on his back and his shoulder so comforting that it melted him. Cut right through his wall of bullshit, that was already crumbling due to his illness. Before he could stop himself he let out a choked sob, vision clouding over with tears.
"Oh Jayj... come here," she said, gathering him into her arms as her heart broke for him.
John B stepped out of his room then, hearing the sound of his best friend crying from the other room. He quickly walked out into the front room. JJ was draped over Kiara, who held him in her lap as he sobbed into her shirt.
"Shh, shh, shh, I've got you," she whispered, catching John B's eyes as he stook awkwardly in the doorway. She motioned him with her head to join them. Hesitantly, he moved to sit on JJ's other side. He draped an arm over both Kiara and JJ's shoulders, landing them in a sort of group hug situation. "We've got you," Kiara amended. And they would sit there for as long as JJ needed them.

big fan of your romance novel complaint posts (love to see a fellow hater living it up) but i’m also curious if there are any you would recommend? not looking for anything in particular, just would love to hear your thoughts as someone else with nitpicky reading habits and a taste for trash
ok hello. i left you hanging for a FULL week and for that i am sorry but i wanted to be able to have some time to sit down and type out a real answer to which the short version is YES of course there are several that i have enjoyed!! my disclaimer is that i almost solely read gay romance so if you are looking for lesbian or even straight reccs i don't have much for you (although i will put a couple at the end anyway). hopefully something in this list is interesting to you or at least interesting to someone else! links are mostly to goodreads. break bc i'm gonna write too much
-kj charles is one of my fave authors in this genre bc they're all pretty reliable and there's a ton of them. they're all historical fiction and usually there's at least one murder- she's good at keeping a plot going while developing a romance. often supernatural or magical elements. sometimes cults! i've read almost all of the books she's written and have enjoyed them all
-charlie adhara wrote a really incredible werewolf series that i loved, the first of which is the wolf at the door. this is one of the only series i've read which keeps the emotional stakes up through the whole thing & kept me interested in a relationship after it was established bc sooo many series get boring the second the leads get together. i actually read the first book of the spin-off series (a pack of lies) first which is technically possible but i don't recommend bc i was like "wow they're really throwing me in here. i love it" and then i read the first series and i was like "oh i was supposed to know all this stuff." but i actually liked the dynamic between that couple better and i'm suffering every day because the next one still doesn't come out til 2025 and i read it in 2022. also worth noting that this (the original series) is cops-ajacent (~federal special agents~) and one of the characters is really prejudiced at the beginning & imo doesn't have enough character growth before it's waved away but if you can ignore that it's really good. mysteries! werewolves!
-speaking of werewolves (i could suggest several but i'll keep it to two) tj klune's wolfsong ends up at the top of a lot of gay werewolf novel lists (i'm keeping tabs) and there's a good reason. i enjoyed it a lot. made me kind of sad which is always a good sign to me. the writing voice was very fresh and novel at first but i did find it a little grating by the end so i've put off starting the second book in the series (it's also about a different couple which was disappointing) but i will get around to it. i enjoy tj klune in general although his recent stuff has a very different vibe than this and lightning struck heart is very 2015 in a bad way imo
-bone rider by j fally is a standalone that really delighted me. the russian mob? aliens? vaguely western? possession? throuple? it's got it all. very fun
-ok speaking of westerns there's this other series called magic & steam (yes it's steampunk. sorry. it's very silly) that starts with the engineer. a federal agent is sent to a town to apprehend a ~madman engineer~ except he runs into an infamous outlaw in the process. and the outlaw is really sexy. and probably why i enjoyed the series so much. the series also keeps them apart a lot in a way that i enjoy- i love when things take a long time. it's ongoing so this is another one that i keep checking for updates on
-i've read a lot of stuff by nr walker and they tend to be VERY hit or miss for me but one of my faves is evolved which is almost pure smut. it's about a sex robot that gains sentience. what more do i need to say. she also wrote a three-book series about an amnesiac that made me cry cry cry. and her cowboy (australian rancher) series is pretty ok. i could go through a list and tell you which novels of hers aren't worth it and which ones are good; i've read most of them
-salt magic skin magic by lee welch was a big surprise to me. cool magic, good folklore, fairies in there too. historical. big kj charles vibes which makes sense bc she edited it. welch also wrote a book called seducing the sorcerer which i had more mixed feelings about but had magic in it that i think about OFTEN (the horses)- that one's about an imposing sorcerer and a rundown groom cum handyman. and they're in their FORTIES!!! 🥳🥳🥳 (i love when books are not about 23 year olds)
-another one with a magic system i enjoyed was magician by kl noone. this was the first book i read by this author and i liked it but generally i find their books are too "nice" for me. i'm in the middle of one right now that i started months and months ago that i keep trying to go back to and it's sooo rough for me. but this one and the twelfth enchantment are pretty ok
-emily tesh wrote a duology of silver in the wood and drowned country that i loved because i am suuuuch a sucker for a wild man/green man story. really good. haunting! evocative! kj charles has a green man story too which was actually the first thing i read of hers (spectred isle)
-i complained about the monsterfucker book i was reading a while back but despite that i will also recommend the series it's from: lily mayne's monstrous, which starts with soul eater. are they messy? yes. are they repetitive? yes. are the monsters usually disappointingly humanoid? yes. are a lot of them about the military? also yes. so we're starting off on a bad foot. but the world building is interesting and there's LOTS of kinds of monsters and most of them were pretty fun. the one i just read (#7) was the worst one of the bunch though imo. and i have problems with #6. but 1 2 and 5 were good
-ok i should do a quickfire round. honeytrap: about two enemy agents during the cold war. put it off for a long time bc i didn't love that but it takes place over a VERY long period of time which is always interesting to me. zero at the bone: about a hitman who needs to protect a witness to a mob hit. really strong start but fell off a bit in the middle to the end imo.
-you'll notice a lot of these have subgenres of like fantasy historical supernatural etc but here's some regular contemporaries. a lot of these are about sad guys bc those are my favorite. best laid plans: hardware store owner helps a guy fix his house. in the middle of somewhere: same author actually. guy moves to small town to work at a college. mr jingle bells: this is a christmas one. bad title. fake dating. part of the reason i think i liked it so much is because i expected it to be awful but it was actually pretty good. good emotional stakes. published 2021 but feels very 2014. ignore that part. work for it: i rated this five stars but actually don't remember much what it was like. i think they were both really sad which i love. give me big emotions and i eat them right up with a spoon. i should read it again
-OK now i've got some straight & lesbian options. talia hibbert's brown sisters series is good and cute. she also wrote work for it, above. the unhoneymooners is the first real Romance Novel that i read and it really surprised me because i had fun! previously i had kind of written off romance novels as not for me but this kicked off a reading habit that is still going strong (primarily reading romance novels). i read this in 2020 so it might not be as good as i remember. as for lesbian options olivia waite has a series that i enjoyed that's also historical, and a friend of mine really enjoyed delilah green doesn't care (but i haven't read that one myself). and while not really romances i will always be a sarah waters fan: you may recognize her as the author of fingersmith, which is the novel park chan-wook's movie the handmaiden is based on. if you haven't seen the movie or read the book i recommend both. her books are very dramatic lesbian historical fiction; they don't always have happy endings but they're all very good
ok i think that's the end! regular disclaimer that romance is generally not a genre notable for Good Writing so a lot of these are just things i had fun with or just stuck out in my memory for having fun conceits etc. i can't guarantee that any of these are actually good, especially because this is a list solely based on my own taste and bad memory. would love to hear anybody's thoughts and/or if anybody has recommendations for ME!!! this post took me over three hours to write! crazy!
#asks#dogda#ummm how should i tag this if i need to find it again#book reccs#book list#i have given a few of these to some of you as recommendations before! i love to talk about my stupid little romance novels#before you click on the readmore know that this is long

Thank you @bawlbrayker for the tag. Let's give this a go!
rules: post the first lines of your last 10 fics/chapters posted on AO3 (if you have less than 10 fics posted, post the first lines of all your fics) and try to draw some conclusions.
1: It wasn’t that Mickey was still in the closest, he wasn’t. While it might have taken some time, he was now in a place in his life where he had fully accepted his sexuality. It’s just that he didn’t see the point of shouting it from the rooftops, of dressing up in rainbow coloured shit or painting glitter all over yourself or waving flags like a kid on St. Patrick’s Day. The drunken assholes he had to deal with on that day were bad enough but today the streets were even louder and more colourful and unreasonably fucking happy. (Lost....or found?)
2:
“You can’t stop me from going dad,” Ian shouted, as he tossed clothes and toiletries into a large back pack.
“I’m about to be announced as the candidate Ian, you need to be here, where I…”
His father, Governor Clayton Gallagher, trailed off and his eyes darted away. Ian snorted because he knew why, “Where you can keep an eye on me, huh”
His father sighed wearily and stepped closer, “It’s not like that Ian, that’s not fair. I worry about you, we all do and this is a crucial time for me, for the whole family. Vice President, you know how much it means to me Ian and how long I’ve wanted this”. (The Secret of Art)
3:
“Jesus Mandy, you look poured into that shit,” Mickey teased, as he took in his younger sister’s outfit for the evening, a skin tight black leather jumpsuit. Unsurprisingly she had left the zip opened, daringly low, exposing her cleavage.
“Least I’m wearing an actual costume shithead; you look pretty much like you do every day”.
He snorted and finished styling his hair before adding the final part of his outfit (he refused to call it a costume).
“Huh, not bad right,” Mickey suggested confidently, as he cocked an eyebrow at her.
Mandy begrudgingly smiled and nodded, “Fine, looks better, least it’s more obvious now”.
“Fuck you bitch, I look badass and you know it. Told you I wasn’t gonna wear fucking gay ass tights or a cape or whatever” (Not All Heroes Were Capes)
4:
“TJ, c’mon, you’re gonna be late for school”
He groaned into his pillow, upon hearing his Dad’s voice grow even louder, as he shouted down the hallway for a second time. TJ knew he was pissed by his tone but his Dad didn’t get it, no one did. School was like his own living hell. His Dad had probably been popular and had fit in, not like TJ. He was the school outcast apparently which made him a prime target for the resident bullies. Not only was he the only kid he knew with a single gay Dad for a parent but he didn’t belong to any of the cliques at school. (Circles)
5:
“Listen up!”
Mickey raised his voice to his students, who had started to pack up upon hearing the bell to indicate the end of class. “Your latest assignment, which is due by the end of next week, is to outline three themes found in Pride & Prejudice and describe how they apply today, if they still do”.
He chuckled as the entire room erupted into a loud groan before they started exiting one by one. “Yeah yeah, I’m an asshole for giving you homework on a Friday, tell someone who cares”. (Parachutes)
6:
Ian gripped the phone tightly in his hand as he sat on the edge of his temporary bed in the dingy roadside motel.
“Mam died, thought you should know” the text read simply. No emotion, no greeting, nothing but the bare minimum, six basic words.
He sniffed back a few tears as he reminisced about the only person he ever truly missed back home in Ireland, his grandmother Margaret or Mags as she preferred to be called. His own mother or at least the woman who had given birth to him had sent him a message for the first time in about a year to inform him of his grandmother’s passing and he supposed it was better than nothing. He felt helpless and paralysed in his grief, however, knowing that he couldn’t do anything about the situation. He couldn’t return home, he couldn’t attend her funeral, if her ungrateful children even bothered to organise one of course. (Growing On Me)
7: Ian marveled as it occurred to him that this was about to be their second Valentine’s Day spent together as husbands. The first one occurred only weeks after they had moved into their first real home together, a place free of Gallagher siblings and run away Milkovich cousins. It was the first place which offered complete privacy and a sense of pride considering it was a real nice apartment on the West Side which they paid for with legally earned wages. They had struggled for a few months upon moving in as their security business was only taking off and they had to spend whatever extra cash they had on furniture and essentials but now they felt stable and so Ian wanted to do something extra special this year for Mickey. (These Little Things)
8:
“Assholes” Mickey muttered to himself as he slammed his front door shut and tossed his jacket on the couch.
He grabbed a cold beer from the fridge and gulped down half of its contents immediately. He shook his head knowing that his sister Mandy was going to give him yet another irritating and unwelcome earful. But she had just struck it lucky, she actually liked her job, whereas Mickey wasn’t sure he could ever like any job enough to stick it out. Mostly he figured he just hated people, most people anyway so that instantly ruled out an awful lot of jobs. Customer service, cashier, retail, hospitality, you name it, Mickey had tried it. (Footprints In The Snow)
9:
Ian was giving serious thought to murdering his younger brother Carl and dumping his body in Lake Michigan but he had sworn never to set foot inside a prison cell ever again, luckily for Carl.
For Christmas he had gifted Ian and Mickey a couple’s card game, whereby you could pull out a card at any given moment to use against your partner. Ironically Mickey wasn’t even interested at first, said card games were only worthwhile if there was money involved. But as soon as he opened the packet and started reading through the descriptions on the cards his face had lit up with that typical mischievous smirk of his. (You've Been Served!)
10:
“Jesus Christ Mick” Ian moaned as he pounded into Mickey relentlessly from behind.
His husband was on all fours in front of him on their bed, as Ian dragged his perfectly round and ample ass back towards his hips, over and over. They didn’t always fuck hard and fast but when they did Ian sometimes got completely lost in the act, lost in his husband’s glorious body, almost to a level where he became feral and animalistic. It was as though he couldn’t get enough of him, could never get deep enough, he wanted to consume the man entirely from the inside out. (12 Days of Sexmas)
Conclusion: So I still cringe hard at my grammar, especially on my earlier fics, but given I literally never wrote anything until about a year and half ago I wont sweat it too much. I prefer the dual pov style but that doesn't mean I'm restricted to that format either. And as the last one shows, I clearly love writing smut lol. I honestly find it hard (no pun intended) to write completely smut free works because to me sex is such a big part of their relationship and I particularly enjoy writing flirtatious banter. If I was to be very critical I worry that my style wont evolve much and I really do want to try and push myself out of my comfort zone. Becoming predictable or boring is my worst nightmare!
Just want to end with saying I'm so eternally grateful to anyone who has read my stuff or sent kudos or left comments. It means the world. X

Since you seem to be having a bad day, I threw together a little ficlet for you. Read/respond at your leisure (whether that's in 3 minutes or not until next year)
It had been a long fucking day.
It was a full day of teaching for Terry Jr, with a bad cold wiping out the entire drama department of San Dimas High (which had only been two teachers and a tech in the first place). There was screaming, and snotty noses, and one or two kids bursting into tears, and by the time the school bell rang, he was just about ready to collapse. And, of course, that was clearly asking too much, because it was drama club that day. 2 whole hours of dealing with kids who are meant to be off book two weeks ago, and still hadn't learnt half their lines. It was a fucking nightmare.
Now, dear reader, don't misunderstand. Terry absolutely adored his job and the kids he worked with. But today was one of those days where you just want to roll over and hide back under the covers.
The train had been cramped and noisy, even if the journey had been mercifully free from the kids usual loud arguments. (Why they insisted on riding back with Terry Jr, he had no idea. It was baffling though that Scary waited for him, and they were going to the same house. Although, somehow, her friends always seemed to stay over longer than expected.) Honestly, it was a relief to lock the door behind them all, the kids rushing off to the garden for soccer practice - mostly moral support to be honest.
Terry wearily pulled off his shoes, before turning to Scary.
"Hey, kiddo, I'm gonna go have a lie down. Let your mom know, okay?"
Scary, for once, didn't seem to protest either the request or the nickname. She just nodded, frowning.
"Yeah, sure. Go have a nap or whatever." He ruffled her hair a little (this did elcit an irritated groan. He may not be her dad, but she was still his kid and it was his duty to embarrass her in front of her friends after all) and headed upstairs.
Terry didn't bother to turn on the lights as he collapsed down into the bed, just letting himself he enveloped by the darkness and the comfy sheets. He felt bad about breaking his normal routine of kissing Veronica when they both got home, but honestly he just couldn't handle doing anything other than laying down right now.
He lay there with his head burried in the pillow for maybe a minute, maybe an hour, when he felt the bed dip.
"Hey, Tear-Bear. Bad day?"
There was his amazing wife, the light of his life. Her hair was flying loose from her bun, and even in the dark Terry could see that her office clothes were slightly rumpled.
She was stunning.
"You know, you gotta stop picking up Nicky's pet names. He has far too many." Terry mumbled as he grabbed her hand, tiredly bringing it up to his lips.
"Ah, but that would mean I don't get to hang out with your wife as much. Darling." A familiar weight draped itself over him, tail curling round his leg. "Dropping round unexpectedly and hanging out with V without you is half the fun."
Nicky's voice was a soothing rumble against his chest. Somehow, just having his two partners here made it easier to relax. Even if Nicky had definitely not announced that he'd be coming over. Veronica kicked her feet up and slung an arm over Terry's shoulder, pulling him closer.
"Come on, time for you to rest, TJ."

book recommendations!
i got tagged by @rosebarsoap and @narrativefoiltrope!! thank u both!!
i'm gonna taaaaag @pensdragon @pinkfey @waspgrave @venusmages @queerbrujas @princesshoneytea and anyone else who wishes to do this!!
the last book i read: excluding manga, the red threads of fortune by neon yang!
a book i recommend: always always always the darkness outside us by eliot schrefer. do you like science fiction? would you like to experience the slow unraveling of a mystery aboard a spaceship as two young men gradually fall in love amidst the backdrop of Shit Being Weird? do i have the book for you! i still think about this book two years later. it had me staring at the wall for three days after i finished it contemplating life and what it means to be human.
a book that i couldn't put down: i will not bang on about the previous book so here's a different queer science fiction novel, winter's orbit by everina maxwell. science fiction, political nonsense, trying to solve a murder, slowly falling in love. it's just so good.
a book i've read twice or more: i've read tithe by holly black like. a dozen times by this point. i love the modern faerie tale books so much.
a book on my TBR: re-coil by j.t. nicholas! more science fiction! this time with the ability for people's consciousnesses to be backed-up and then downloaded into a new body!
a book i've put down: i've only ever put down two books. thr*ne of glass and ac*tar. it's a no from me.
a book on my wishlist: somewhere beyond the sea by tj klune! the sequel to the house in the cerulean sea! i'm greatly looking forward to meeting back up with arthur, linus, and the entire group of kids.
a favorite book from my childhood: i can't pick one so the immortals quartet by tamora pierce!
a book you would give to a friend: the city of brass by s.a chakraborty. doesn't matter if you like fantasy or not. you get this book. read it. read the whole trilogy.
a book of poetry you own: cracks knuckles i'm actually sad bc i can't remember if i saved all my poetry chapbooks from undergrad :( however! the year of blue water by yanyi was. amazing. incredible. i know i saved it because it just changed me so fucking much. salat by dujie tahat was also fucking incredible. they spoke to my poetry class and they were a DELIGHT!
a nonfiction book: broken by fred kay which is about the suspicious death of alydar, a famous thoroughbred stallion.
what are you currently reading: the horse god built by lawrence scanlan which is about triple crown winner secretariat, focusing heavily on his groom, eddie "sweet" sweat, and the influence eddie had on the stallion. also diving into looking at how grooms, black grooms specifically, are often overlooked when it comes to the entire package of a race horse.
what are you planning on reading next: oh man probably intimacies, received by taneum bambrick, who was my poetry writing professor (and many other classes professor lmao), and it's a poetry chapbook! and then following that, i will probably pick the tensorate series back up with the descent of monsters by neon yang!
#reed.txt#i know i forgot some of you i'm so sorry#i love. poetry. so much.#i need to read more of it. i need to inject it into my fucking VEINS.

20 questions for fic writers
Thanks to @mayalaen for tagging me! (way too long ago lol)
First, my AO3
How many works do you have on AO3?
65
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
218,144
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Leverage, White Collar, 9-1-1 Lone Star, 9-1-1, MCU, Political Animals, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG1, Supernatural
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Ice Cream and Therapy, First Dance, An Unexpected Party, Tales of Batman: Interlude I and The First Time
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, but sometimes I get miserably behind and then have to catch up all at once. But I cherish every one and I do enjoy interacting with readers
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Um, I'm not much for angst, but I guess Stay With Me. It's SPN/Leverage, and deals with Dean's demon deal
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Never Sees It Coming (Stargate Atlantis)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really, which I appreciate.
9. Do you write smut?
Not at all. I write a lot of spankings though, so different kink
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I love writing crossovers, and most of my fics have at least two fandoms involved. That said, the craziest one is absolutely Curse You, Steve the Seal, which is a crack drabble crossing Hawaii Five-0 with Phineas and Ferb (last time I ever ask for a fanfic prompt from someone who doesn't actually read/write fanfics.) But a close second would be Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Sore Butt, which I just finished. Leverage/White Collar/9-1-1/9-1-1 Lone Star, and an AU of two of my preexisting AUs. That was a wild ride.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Don't think so, though that would be cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not fanfic, no. I do have one series posted with a co-creator, but I am still waiting for said co-creator to actually co-create something instead of just throwing more prompts at me lol
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Not sure? I have ships I like, ships I don't like, but I don't know. Favorite to watch is probably Tarlos and Malec (helps that they're canon lol). Favorites to write would be Eliot/Quinn/Neal and John/Evan/Cam ( I love the polyamory lol)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Um. All the ones that I'm spending thought on, I probably will manage to finish? Otherwise I probably don't care about them enough at the moment to notice if I don't?
16. What are your writing strengths?
I love dialogue. It's so fun to just see what the hell the characters are gonna say/do next
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Description and action. I can't actually picture anything in my head, so I find myself baffled that people might actually care about what the setting looks like/what's going on
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I won't do it, because I don't speak another language well enough and I don't trust Google translate, but if need be I'll probably pull a "she said in this language." When people do put other languages in dialogue I get frustrated that I can't read it, but I also understand that that's what it's like for the characters, too, so fair enough
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Supernatural and Leverage (so many crossovers you guys)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
I don't even know, I love all of them. At the moment, though, I've got a fondness for both Goodnight Moon and the follow-up Goodnight Nobody. They're Bucky-TJ fics that are just kinda cute and feelsy.
tagging (with no pressure or obligation): @actualalligator @im-overstimulated-and-im-sad @trivalentlinks @friendly-chaos @snowviolettwhite and anybody else who wants to play! Please tag me so I can see your stuff 💜

So season 10 of Death Battle was bonkers...
so bonkers that I want to share my opinions on each and every episode (In one or a few sentences each)
16: Killua vs Misaka [This was probably the middest episode to ever mid. So mid that my best buddy TJ has forgotten that it even exists on more than one occasion. 5/10
15: Darth Vader vs Obito Uchiha [neat choreography and somber ending, but the analysis and result just feel... "iffy" in a a way I can't describe. 6/10
14: Martian Manhunter vs Silver Surfer [While the Surfer's ending monologue was chillingly thought-provoking, this episode doesn't have much else going for it. 6.5/10
13: Dark Souls vs Skyrim [Neat and all, but I'd probably like it more if the animation was a tad less jank and all Fromsoft games didn't look the flippin' same. 7/10
12: Gojo vs Makima [This episode was pretty alright, at least if you're not a salty simp (Thankfully, I'm not) 7/10
11: Frieza vs Megatron [The fight was cool and all, but it is kind of ruined by the flonkered pacing. 7/10
10: Ant-Man vs Atom [It was neat seeing the combatants take the fight in a more "scientific" way with all their planning. 7.5/10
9: Cole McGrath vs Alex Mercer [One of the "Never gonna happen" princes finally becomes reality, and it was good. 7.5/10
8: Phoenix vs Raven [Cool and all, but can we pour one out for Jean? Not for her death to Raven, but her 16th death in the comics? 7.5/10
7: Galactus vs Unicron [The king of "Never gonna happen" and it was pretty grand and, dare I say, huge... );) 8/10
6: Guts vs Dimitri [Pretty sick and raw fight that made me respect Dimitri and the Blue Lions more, despite preffering the Black Eagles (Don't look at me, I just go with them because they have best girl) 8.5/10
5: Stitch vs Rocket Raccoon [The song lyrics were accurate, because I certainly had a blast watching this. As well as Rocket having a literal one (RIP Ice Cream Guy) 9/10
4: Rick Sanchez vs The Doctor [A-aw geez, guys! This episode was fantastic! WUBBA-LUBBA-DUB-DUB!! 9.5/10
3: Goku vs Superman (2023) [I guess it's true what they say; Third time IS the charm, because that was fucking INSANE! 10/10
2: Scooby-Doo vs Courage the Cowardly Dog [Zoinks! the peak levels are through the roof! 11/10
1: Bill Cipher vs Discord [Just as peak as Scooby vs Courage, but I love Gravity Falls more than I do Scooby-Doo, so I feel like I have to go with this. 11/10
And that's all of them! Will I be making one of these for season 11? I dunno. But I'm not sure if that season can top the peakness of this one. But until next year, we shall see...
XKA OBJBJYBO; OBXIFQV FP XK FIIRPFLK, QEB RKFSBOPB FP X ELILDOXJ, YRV DLIA! YVVVBBBBB!!!
-VLRO CXSLOFQB QOFMIB-BADBA ABJLK LC AOBXJP
As much as I love a good, rousing puzzle, I prefer to at least let people have something to go off of to begin with. Also, I want to stick it to that melodramatic isosceles who thought he could mess with my dear friend and her friends. So the key is to not get stabbed in the back. Or crushed by a falling cieling. So probably just to not be from Italy or Rome.
You're welcome!
-Who Q wishes he was

in the spirit of impending halloween, can you go off about overrated (or underrated) candies?
im gonna go out swinging and declare at the top of my lungs that i hate red candy AND blue candy and quite often green candy. strawberry flavored candy is on thin ice but usually not bad. and before you're like woah what the fuck. prepare to die on this hill with me fucker. im allergic to food dye, esp red n blue. not like, severely, but it gives me migraines, and combined with a billion other triggers, shit like birthday parties n valentines day were vomit bummers of a repeated nature when i was little.
so then like, at halloween, i'd have to give my little brother all my red n blue and often green candy, and being a little brother, he was piss poor at trading, and it was a whole thing.
SO WHAT"S GOOD ACTUALLY?
chocolate except for like, almond joys, mounds. im not a coconut guy. snickers are fine. caramel fucks, peanut butter is good if it isn't a bitch to get out of the wrapper, i like crispy bits, nougat rules. pretzel m&ms fuck. the best easy to get chocolate is the hershey symphony almond n toffee bits bars that are ginormous, but like, actually decent chocolate rocks the socks. i got a bar of tony's chocolonely the other day and it was like fucking, strawberry cheese cake flavored and usually im a milk chocolate, then white chocolate, then.......................................................maybe slightly dark chocolate person, but god i ate the entire thing in one go and i had no regrets except for that it was gone
peach anything! chewy orange candy, lemon candy, strawberry candy (if you are offended on red and blue flavored candy's behalf please come take it off my hands the next time i have a variety bag). skittles, starbursts, etc. also like, sour gummy worms/octopi, watermelons, sour patch kids. also also tootsie rolls, which kind of straddle the line between one and two taxonomoically
rock candy fucks, good texture. chocolate rocks are the same. lollipops but only like four flavors and i don't fuck with mystery. pop rocks (again like. three varieties) are cool. bubblegum is a probably.
grape is a hard maybe. as are smarties (chalky), nerds. nerds are like eating aquarium gravel so you have to be in the mood. i'll eat like three candy corns and that's plenty. mint chocolate heavily varies. peanut stuff, gotta be in the mood for it. mega sour candy is probably a no, as is like...gooey things. i don't do like, gushers etc. wrong texture.
no: cherry anything, blue raspberry anything. no mystery flavors, cause you never know when it's gonna kick your ass. no coconut (texture), dark dark chocolate (bitter), spicy (spicy), coffee anything (bitter). if you are upset about it give me your mailing address and you can have any of mine you like (joke)
also i never eat candy from like, the dollar store, tj maxx, craft stores etc, and if it has been in my cupboard too long bye bye. im also not gonna eat like, chocolate flavored wax product.
#ask game#don't get me started#thank you!!!#i appreciate you indulging me esp since i posted n ghosted

I live!
Aaaa- okay, I haven’t posted in.. a while. And that. Is probably because I’ve generally been a little unmotivated, I’m gonna stop making the maps for a little because they are draining and I’m not very interested in it for a moment so they can be put on the back burner. What I will be doing though, is working on the ranking revamp- it’s a (very unsurpsing) shocker that Roman military ranks are a little confusing (I’ve had to re-read some articles like 15 times and I’m gonna first try and find some diagrams that will present me with an easy place to begin branching).
But I have been halting my posting for a bit because I have been, pretty busy. Just got to quarter 2 of school, and a lot of work. We had to write a narrative so I tried out my cool character for a spin and was working on integrating my Re-imagine of CJ inside it- I got to mention Fontus so that was a pretty rad day.
And I love Thomas Jefferson JR From Magnus chase. When I read the books know that he will be the main reason I will read. Live, laugh, love TJ Jr.
But sorry- I have a lot going on. And a lot of people don’t really read this stuff for super transformative content, but I still feel a little bad for not putting things out-
Anyway, next thing that I pinky promise I’ll work on is talking about Bryce Lawerence. He’s only mentioned in BoO and I have strong opinions on him. He’s also my 6th favorite character; don’t come for me.
And maybe after that or inside it- a Michael Varus thing. Since I made my main OC directly related to him there’s no doubt that I do really like him, and I’m a little sad they like- kind of fell short with the opportunity to use him and stuff (Most of my HC are just my fabrication because we know actually nothing about him!!)
Plus here’s some art of updated (my OC) Mercury 👀,

Transcript under the cut:
Cody: I’m gonna do a full run action over to the nuke by Nivitz here.
Karl: Keep ‘em off us! We’ll do what we can!
Grant: Nivitz is able to quickly point out these frayed wires that have been set precariously close to each other to form connections if it’s moved hastily. And he’s also able to point out the timer to you. Since he’s helping you through that part quickly, I will give you an insight check to see if you think you know how to defuse this.
Cody: Oh boy. I rolled a three.
Grant: I want you to— Cody. Look at me. Through the screen here. You need to role play this like you believe you can defuse this.
Karl: I’ve totally seen this before in a movie.
Grant: Nivitz, roll insight.
Nivitz: [sighing] Oh boy… Karl: I know exactly what I'm doing, it’s the red wire.
Grant: Nivitz, you believe that he can defuse this.
Nivitz: Oh boy. You sure you got this? Karl: According to my… vague knowledge of bad movies. Nivitz: Oh… [chuckles nervously] Karl: But I’m sure it’ll work, right? Because a lot of those movies are based off of real— they’re almost documentaries, inspired by real events.
Pippin: Nivitz is nervously [unintelligible]
Nivitz: If you’re sure, do you want me to help the others? Karl: No, no, I’m probably gonna need you here. Nivitz: Okay…
Pippin: So what can I do?
Grant: You can just effectively cast the Help action, which means that you’re gonna give Cody advantage on his next check.
Austin: Can I call out my knowledge of shitty movies and just tell them, like,
Xalduin: It’s never the green wire!
Austin: And use a Hero Point to give them… more shit?
Nivitz: Is this a bad time to tell people I’m colorblind?
Austin & Grant: No.
[laughing]
Cody: What kind of check is it to defuse this bomb?
Grant: You don’t know this, so don’t metagame, but this is a DC 30 check.
Cody: Oh.
Grant: So, you have advantage on it because of Nivitz. You have an extra d6 because of Xalduin’s Hero Point. And you can use an extra d6 because of your Hero Point. It is going to be a check with your Tinker’s tools, though, so it is also with proficiency. Plus 3d6, so whatever you roll, with advantage, plus 3d6. Why don’t we just get your 3d6 out of the way now, so we know what it’s adding.
Cody: So I get plus 10.
Grant: You get plus 10, and it’s a DC 30. So you need to get a 20 or higher, with advantage.
Cody: Now, can I add this also? It’s an ability check, that’s not really an ability check though, is it? It’s uh… Enhanced Focus…
Grant: No, yeah, you can add that. One hundred percent.
Cody: Oh, okay well then I’ll throw in another d6. Oh my god, great…
Grant: So you need to roll a 19 or higher with your tinker’s tool on one of these rolls. To defuse this bomb.
TJ: And your total has to be 19.
[yelling]
Cody: Advantage, 24.
TJ: What the fuck…
Karl: I told ya, it’s the red wire. What’d I say? It’s not the green one, just like Xalduin said. Of course it’s not the green one. They try that in… Space Abominations Five and that doesn’t work.
Grant: Karl, by complete accident… you get in there, and by the time you start touching things, you realize it’s too late and you don’t know what you’re doing.
Cody: [laughs]
Grant: And you connect two wires and the timer blinks off.
Karl: Whew, guys I’m just gonna be honest with you. There wasn’t even a red wire in there. I got in there and they were all green. [laughs]
#the homebrew podcast#podcast recs#dnd podcasts#audio#ty talks#certified karl gauss moment#i stitched this together w/o headphones on so sorry if it's a little wonky. listened to it now w/ headphones and i think it sounds fine#the bg music is a little disjointed but you can barely tell and also i wasnt going to even attempt to mess with that#transcribed#i had this part transcribed already so might as well have it on here#a3ma

Word Find Tag
The marvellous @drabbleitout tagged me recently to find the words rain, firm, garbage and regret, and I’m on a roll with these tags so I figured why the hell not. :D
Before that, I’m gonna tag back @drabbleitout, plus @artdecosupernova-writing, @isherwoodj, @winterandwords, @blind-the-winds, @mariahwritesstuff and @oh-no-another-idea to find the words crumb, next, connect, secure, and refer.
Taking from CASCADE and INUNDATE, as is my wont atm! Focusing on TJ and Flint POVs cuz, well, cuz. *shrug*
rain pour CASCADE -- TJ POV
“Morning,” TJ said, skirting around her as he headed for the kettle.
“Hey.” Natasha paused to stir something vigorously, and then poured the resulting viscous liquid into a pan. “Pancakes?”
Fortunately TJ’s eyes were on his mug; she couldn’t see his wince. “Thanks, but I’m okay.”
“Teej. You know breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”
TJ turned around, mug in hand, to find her staring at him, hands on her hips. The smile that crept onto his face felt almost genuine. “I still maintain that was nothing more than a marketing tactic dreamed up by the breakfast food folks.”
“The breakfast food folks?” Natasha raised her eyebrows. “You mean like major cereal companies or something?”
“Sure, why not? Maybe the fruit growers. Probably bacon… manufacturers. It’s a whole conspiracy.”
Natasha was fighting to keep her face straight and failing. “You do know bacon isn’t manufactured, right?”
firm CASCADE -- TJ POV
The ridiculousness of that notion was only matched by the other option, which was that she was planning on sharing a room — and a bed — with TJ.
Twelve months ago that idea wouldn’t have been ridiculous at all. They’d been friends for a very long time, acknowledged that it would never be anything more than platonic love between them for almost the same amount of time. Sharing a bed on an assignment had been a nonevent, a semi-regular occurrence that was as prosaic as eating dinner together in their lounge room.
Flint had changed all that. And TJ had been positive it would never go back to the way it was.
“Are you—”
Natasha interrupted him, firm but not sharp. “It’s fine, TJ. Just don’t complain when I steal all the covers.”
TJ wouldn’t. He never would again.
garbage trash CASCADE -- TJ POV
Julius all but snatched the coffee away from him when he returned to the main room, his eyes dropping closed as he took a large mouthful. TJ smiled a little as he passed Natasha hers, then offered the tray to Delta. He examined the remaining two paper cups like TJ was offering him a live snake.
“I haven’t poisoned them,” TJ said, a little dryly.
Delta tilted his head a little as he considered him. “I would have noticed if you did.”
TJ arched an eyebrow, unsure how to otherwise respond.
“It’s fine, Delta,” Julius said. TJ glanced at him in time to see him drain the remainder of his cup; he bared his teeth in what looked like distaste. “Actually, that’s a lie, it’s fucking shit coffee, but it’s better than nothing.”
Delta didn’t look convinced, but he plucked a cup from the tray with a nod. TJ wasn’t sure why that made him feel so fucking triumphant.
Julius walked over to toss his cup in the trash, and swiped a brief off the coffee table as he returned to the corner of the room. Delta joined him, standing close enough that their shoulders almost touched, craning his neck to see the pages; after a beat Julius turned the folder very slightly towards him.
TJ hid a smile as he reclaimed his seat next to Natasha on the couch.
regret CASCADE -- TJ POV
“Okay,” Bishop called, silencing the room immediately. People swivelled where they stood so they were facing him; not that they needed to, given that he didn’t raise his eyes from his clipboard. “Monthly allocations.”
Something unpleasantly like anxiety squirmed in TJ’s stomach. It had been a long time since he’d felt that. It had been a long time since he’d had to wonder which entrustees he and Natasha would be paired with for the month. Though he shouldn’t really be concerned. They’d dealt with Delta without any issues; after that, the rest of the entrustees should be a cakewalk.
And it wasn’t like the writhing in his stomach could be anything other than anxiety.
Like, it certainly wasn’t regret.
God, his head hurt.
#word find tag#WIP: CASCADE#every time i post stuff related to this it occurs to me anew that most people probably have no idea what's going on#seeing as i haven't posted a lot of what's... actually going on#But oh well!#que sera sera and all that jazz etc

Life’s too short to wait for someone to ask me to answer these, I’m just gonna do it.
1. 64
2. No, but I plan on rereading The Locked Tomb books next year before Alecto comes out
3. Yellowface, She Who Became the Sun, Jade City, When the Angels Left the Old Country, and Man o’ War (in no particular order)
4. Sacha Lamb, R. F. Kuang, and TJ Klune
5. Fantasy, unless we also count “gay” as a genre
6. The Ruin of Kings. I’m a third of the way through it but I decided to try and speed through some books I’d wanted to finish this year instead of trying to finish it and probably not succeeding before the end of the year. #achievementculture
7. 3.7. Yes, I think it’s accurate. I think a lot of people consider 3 stars to be worse than I do. A book should really astound me to get 5 stars, and 4 is “very good but not perfect.” 3 is still a perfectly good book, if maybe a book not worth any awards.
8. Yep! My goal was 50 books, then 60, and I finished with 64. I also played a “spooky reading bingo” game with my friends and I got bingo for it. Also, this wasn’t strictly a goal, but between my new job translating books into Braille and joining an LGBT book club I’ve been reading a lot more culturally diverse novels than I otherwise would have known were out there.
9. Wouldn’t go so far as to call them NEW to me, but I read a lot more short story collections and memoirs this year than I usually do
10. Yellowface
11. The Year of the Flood
12. Camp Damascus and House of Leaves
13. House of Leaves, A Darker Shade of Magic, Like a Love Story, The Dangers of Smoking in Bed
14. Shiver by Junji Ito would be nice, but let’s see if I finish the book I’m working on before year’s end
15. Yellowface won the Goodreads Award and I think that was definitely deserved. Man o’ War was a Stonewall Honor Book — again, deserved. I also read a short story collection called Stories No One Hopes Are about Them which won the Iowa short fiction award. It was… fine.
16. Heartstopper… I’m sorry, it was undoubtedly cute and the art is very good but I honestly think once you peel away the hype it’s just a teenybopper love story like any other ._.
17. When the Angels Left the Old Country. I didn’t have any expectations going into it cuz I read it to translate it for work, but… wow. It was shocking how easily I fell into the story. Absolutely no notes.
18. Good question. Like… 10? I read a lot of books either from the library or at work for free.
19. Yes. Libby app my beloved.
20. I’m Glad My Mom Died. It was very good.
21. No lol go outside
22. According to Goodreads it was Tomie at 750 pages. But I feel like that’s cheating cuz it was a collection of like 22 graphic novels. So I’m gonna go with The Magus at 656 pages.
23. I’ve read books start to finish in one day, but they’re all graphic novels
24. Camp Damascus, mostly because the writing style didn’t speak to me at all and I have a long TBR to get to. Also The Epic of Gilgamesh.
25. No idea! Maybe 70 books? The world is my oyster!
