As a Targaryen, the easiest course of action you have when faced with a problem would be to simply get on your dragon and burn defenseless people.
Which is why Jace setting off and establishing diplomatic relationships with major houses will always be more impressive to me than the 19 y/o who burned a whole region in a pissy fit or his brother who took part in the bloodiest sack in Westerosi history.
Killing is easy when you’re on a beast high above the air facing people who can’t even outrun your flames, but convincing people to pledge their loyalty and men to your cause with words alone is hard.

I would be a Jacaerys apologist, but he has done nothing wrong, ever in his life;that's the only consistent fact throughout F&B and HotD and I love him

don’t know why so many team green stans are dying over the fact that rhaenyra’s sons are bastards 😱😱😱 when it wasn’t even confirmed in the books and when being a bastard in westeros is just a state of legality. if legitimised, they would have every right to their family’s titles - hence gendry and jon being legitimised and having claims to the throne and winterfell. legit every single person in that show has legitimised jace as rhaenyra’s heir and referred to him as such. their grandfather corlys, their father laenor, their other grandfather the literal KING accepted them and threatened death and dismemberment to anyone who didn’t do the same, their MOTHER rhaenyra. jace has every right to ascend the throne because his mother is the rightful queen and he is her rightful heir.

watching people “defend” Alicent by saying the fandom hates feminine women when Rhaenyra actively gets all her feminine attributes stripped from her character in both canons and by the fandom itself, literally putting her on the same level as Maegor, will never not make me laugh.

I'm gonna say it: it's aemond's own fault he lost his eye in both the show and the book. Both times, he snuck out to claim vhagar. In the show, he wasn't stopped. In the book, three year old Joffrey Velaryon was with his dragon because he was an early riser and told Aemond to stay away from Vhagar, so Aemond - who was much older - pushed little three year old Joffrey over and, in his fear of being caught because he knew he was doing something his parents would like, claimed Vhagar and flew her for the first time.
Tumblr media
Baby Joffrey, all of three years old, then of course runs to get his big brothers, likely crying and terrified. Because he's, y'know, A BABY.
In the show, Aemond claims Vhagar and with arrogance and smugness returns to the castle, high on the fact that he'd just claimed Vhagar, uncaring of how rude/insulting it may have been to claim Vhagar on the night of her previous riders funeral, like A NORMAL PERSON.
When, in the show, Rhaena and Baela confront Aemond with Luke and Jace, they're clearly upset. Their mother has just died, its her funeral, and their last tether to her - Vhagar - has been claimed by Aemond. They say he stole her, and while dragons can't be stolen, he did use underhanded tactics to obtain her and bond with her. And his haughtiness afterwards, towards the daughters of the woman whose dragon he just claimed, is what makes the altercation his fault.
Baela, upset: Vhagar is my mother's dragon!
Aemond, uncaring: Your mother is dead, and Vhagar has a new rider now.
Rhaena: she was mine to claim!
Aemond: then you should have claimed her. Maybe your cousins can find you a pig to ride. It would suit you.
Rhaena then hits Aemond, provoked into this by his cruel words and actions. Was it right? No. But it's literally the night of her mums funeral, Vhagar has been claimed by someone who clearly doesn't care about her mother, and he just insulted her. Aemond pushes Rhaena to the ground, so Baela slaps him in defense of her sister, and he punches her in the face.
Aemond: come at me again and I'll feed you to my dragon!
Now aemond is threatening to murder his cousins, which is par for the course for hid character. He always had kinslaying in him.
The fight devolves even more, and Jace and Luke get involved, defending their cousins. Luke, a little kid, is whacked and shoved to the ground, so Jace jumps in. Then Baela decides to help, and she and Luke - both of them younger and smaller - start wailing on Aemond (u go kids).
Aemond kicks Luke off of him, throws Baela off, and stands only to grab Luke - only five - by the throat and hold a rock over his head and threaten him.
Aemond: you will die screaming in flames just as your father did, bastard.
Luke, terrified and upset: my father is still alive!
Aemond, amused: he doesn't know, does he? Lord Strong.
This is when Jace pulls his knife, literally the size of my thumb, and attacks. Jace us quickly unarmed by Aemond, who is still holding the rock, and Luke sees the blade. Aemond holds the rock over them, smirks at Rhaena and Baela, then gets sand thrown in his face and Luke slashes at him wildly, not even aiming for his eye, just aiming to stop Aemond from hurting Jace and himself and his cousins, because at this point Luke has heard death threats, and seen Aemond take on him and the other three easily and win, so of bloody course this terrified little boy used a weapon to defend himself when it became necessary.
After, Alicent makes the situation about her because she's a poor uwu baby (gag me with a chainsaw, I loathe her) and attacks Rhaenyra as though Rhaenyra and her kids were in the wrong? Gurl.
Aemond will then go on to use him losing his eye as an excuse to use his war dragon to chase fourteen year old Luke on tiny baby Arrax and have the FUCKING AUDACITY to look shocked when it went wrong? Aemond is still at fault for Luke's death even if "he didn't mean it" or "he lost control" (he's not a true dragon lmfao)
In the book, Joffrey - who is three - returns with Jace and Luke, who grabbed wooden swords - they won't help against Vhagar bbys - in defense of their brother.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Despite it being three on one, Aemond was winning the fight until Luke slashed him, and good thing he did otherwise Aemond wouldn't have stopped in my opinion. He'd have kept going, beating the boys to bloody pulps. It was stable-boys who had to end the fight, where were the guards? Cole was probably simping over alicunt tbh.
Also, Alicent was the first to demand Luke's eye in recompense for Aemond losing his soz not soz ya uwu Queen is a cunt heh
Aemond will then, years later, attack Luke because of this and kill him and start the Dance of Dragons in full because not only did he cause the events that took his eye, but also the worst war in history, all because he's a little bitch baby sociopath with genocidal tendencies lmfao
Also, Aemond got off lightly, merely losing his eye - do u know what the punishment is for people who attack a princes' daughters and the heir to the throne sons? Calling them bastards, which is treason!!!! Death. Bitch shit should be exuberant that he merely lost an eye. Unfortunately viserys is a bitch and didn't send Aemond to the Wall like Jaehaerys would have for fucking real lol

Being a Jace fan is suffering. Like striping Jace of all the things he does in the book and reducing him to just bastardy issues wasn't enough...
Let's not forget that to this day Vermax is still one of the only dragons we haven't fully seen in the show, for reasons
We only get to briefly see him in season 1 episode 10 for seconds (and it was just an upscaled version of his younger model) and again we only see his head for seconds in this season.
The only thing we have are these beautiful official concept arts of Vermax by Constantine Sekeris, and it seems like they decided not to use them in the show anyway lol

Cole's fans forget that he is a grown man Bullying children aged 6 to 8 who arrive to be ironic because they are the same people complaining about the bully that Aemond is like saying only the green ones can suffer at the hands of the evil black people
finally getting through my asks! sorry this took so long!
but yeah, it’s hilarious how there will be thousands of words of meta of how traumatized aemond is because he was “bullied” by Luke & Jace, but evidently Luke & Jace themselves were never affected by their bullying at the hands of a grown adult. (And I’ve already written about the misdirected anger over Aemond’s bullying here)
Not just a grown adult, but their teacher. A Kingsguard, men who are supposed to honorable knights who are looked up to as examples of chivalry and honor throughout the realm. How confusing it must have been for two little boys to have been maligned by someone they probably looked up to, someone they wanted approval from. There was not just the psychological aspect of the favoritism that hurt them, but a physical one, where Cole sics Aegon, an older, bigger, and stronger teen against Jace, a child who is barely able to defend himself.
And why is the bullying of Luke and Jace never brought up? Well, because they are well adjusted when they grow up, because Rhaenyra was a great mother, one who allowed them to grow up emotionally mature. They never bring up their mistreatment at Cole’s hands, because they have moved on. In fact, Jace is able to tactfully bring it up during his toast without having a meltdown, saying he has “fond memories of their childhood.” He’s trying to be diplomatic (as befits an heir to the Iron Throne). Meanwhile Aemond loses it at Luke merely smiling at a roast pig because he hasn’t had a healthy family unit around him to help him process his childhood feelings. He then attacks their legitimacy, something that unlike the pig, actually threatens their life.
Aemond flips out at a mere reminder of the pig but Jace and Luke don’t freak out at the mention of Cole. This gives the fandom some kind of odd confirmation bias, where they come to the conclusion that Aemond’s treatment was worse because his reaction was worse; really, Luke and Jace had it much worse because they were mistreated by an authority figure and not peers, but their trauma is minimized because they were able to actually cope with it.

I have the theory that TG doesn't know basic biology, because they bitch and moan about Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey being bastards
Yes, there is a possibility that they might be bastards, but it has always been a 50/50 thing you know why? Because Aemma is an Arryn, and with a quick internet search you can see that Aemma's father had dark hair and if you know how genetics works it mean that there is a possibility that Laenor's sons are his

if season three of house of hot garbage writing doesn’t start with condom changing canon AGAIN so that the opening scene is a) a jacela marriage or b) baela with a daenaera shaped belly…i WILL be scaling HBO HQ’s walls and hypnotizing condom and mess into doing reshoots and pushing back the two year release date so that this is canon

Alicent hightower a firm believer of seven by her religion a man and woman cannot lay together if they are not married but even if they sleep together it has to be for providing heirs and alicent a widow in her mourning period has sex with criston cole her sworn shield so she does not even follow her own religions principles , who shames rhaenyra for having consensual sex with a man she trusts because her husband is attracted to man so he could not provide her an heir and she lives in a patriarchal society so if she doesn't get pregnant the society will blame her undermine her claim by saying how she could be the future queen if she could not even properly do a woman's duty which is to provide heirs and even if the boys were not laenors he accepted them but only alicent and cole have a problem .
crispin cole a knight who has soiled his own cloak by his own decision does not think of the consequences when he asks the crown princess to run away with him , but if we look at it the other way the crown princess is missing with her dornish knight on her wedding tour and if viserys found out he would have a scearch party for her and either way she would have been married off and criston will be beheaded for treason of kidnapping the crown princess cause who would believe a princess would run away with a simple knight with no land and titles .
and people who ship young alicent and cole but hate daemon x rhaenyra you do realise cole is the same age as daemon but you forget it beacuse he is dornish so you hate daemon but love cole who has been around the girls when they are 14 but accuse daemon who is always aways from kingslanding is groming rhaenyra

king by the amazing devil is such a jace and baela coded song
"the madness that lingers / rips into the bark of our bones" and "i’ll let the sea birds cry" and "i’ll keep him safe from the dark things that wait / in that house at the top of the rock" and "but our voices collide with each howl of the tide / singing all hell and its fire waits for us" and "The sea and its waters, every unwanted daughter" and "Every moon in the sky, every promise and lie" and "I’ll keep the king"

“Rhaenyra and Alicent’s relationship wasn’t equal”
and that is the exact reason the narrative the show presents doesn’t work.
Rhaenyra is a true born princess, a dragon rider, her father’s favored child, and named heir to the throne. Rhaenyra is above Alicent in every way politically until she is married to Viserys and then Alicent is Queen through marriage only, but as we are shown in both show and book canon she takes pleasure in exorcising her power and station as Queen. Alicent in show was a noble born lady who had been aged down and forced to play into the many roles of all of Rhaenyra’s ladies in wait AND given Laena’s part. in the book Alicent is 10+ years Rhaenyra’s senior, known in Jaehaery’s court and then Visery’s through Otto. already we can see no matter how you spin it their relationship would always be imbalanced. they are in completely different classes and held to completely different responsibilities.
presenting their relationship as if it has equal footing serves to take away from the political scheming and ambition of each character and tries to give us this one note story of girl bosses and petty jealousy.
Rhaenyra and Alicent already have a complex and dramatic dynamic, they both have plenty of both justified and unjustified reasons to dislike/distrust each other. they don’t NEED the forced character swapping, age changing, and plot rearranging to give that to them.
Tumblr media
this scene in particular was so book canon imo. even with the show age swapping and character changes this scene, the dialogue, everything about it encapsulated the fight between Alicent and Rhaenyra- their political and personal differences, their fight for their family, the scheming afterward with Otto/Daemon. it was possibly one of the most book canon moments in terms of characterization for either of them.

Look, i'm not saying that Jacaerys' insecurities are not interesting or that he has legitimate worries (which will be proven right if they stick to the book... though i'm unsure on whether they will blame his behavior with Them for the betrayal).
But i'm still angry at everything they did to him. Especially since Book Jacaerys is my favorite character of Fire and Blood, of the whole Dance.
It makes me furious how many people are saying we the angry Jace stans have 0 media literacy and asking if we rather have Jace still doing nothing as he did for the whole season.
THAT is exactly the problem. That he didn't do anything in the show while in the book he did SO MUCH.
"And now you say you will strip that from me too" could be perfectly something Jacaerys says to the writers of this mess.
They sidelined all of his alliances achievements with the Vale, the Three Sisters, White Harbor and the North (the lack of Pact of Ice and Fire hurts the most). All the time that could have been spent to develop his character had they wanted and show his potential. Instead we only got a little show only scene with the Freys that barely proved anything about him.
I loved Baela's scene with Corlys, but it was Jace who mediated between Rhaenyra and him in the book, it was by his order that he was made Hand of the Queen.
It was also him who had the Dragonseeds idea... and before you say that he was also the one with the idea in the series, take into mind that in the book he called for the Dragonseeds (Valyrian ascent bastards) from the very beginning. The whole thing with nobles only is only in the show. Book Jacaerys didn't have any prejudice or apparent problem with bastards at this point of the story. It's obvious that he had already accepted this fact and it's in fact because he knows his origins that he gave Dragonseeds a chance and his faith. He leaded them for the love of god.
Yes, it's true that due to the nature of the book we don't know exactly what was he thinking. But it's the complete opposite reaction to his show version. Whether Book Jace understood or not the danger this plan posed on long-term, he did so just like Rhaenyra did, because they had no chance at the moment. Not to mention that while in the series all the candidates come from Kings Landing (?¿?), in the book they're taken from Driftmark and Dragonstone (which is populated, not only a castle for Targaryen), so there's a bit more of trust on them as subjects than on completely unknown people from the city taken and ruled by your enemy. (It also weren't so many who tried in the book)
I've seen some people say that Jace was besties with Addam and Nettles... and while we actually don't know their relationship, we do know that they mourned him badly while Ulf and Hugh weren't that affected. I really don't think they would be that affected if they didn't have some kind of bond before, even if it wasn't told to us. And I mean, it was Jace who supported legitimizing Addam and Alyn and make Addam heir to Driftmark ahead of Joffrey. Which, well, doesn't seem likely in the show.
The thing is that Jace DID a lot of things in the book, supporting his mother, basically leading the Blacks on the name of Rhaenyra Targaryen, who couldn't do it since she was RIGHTFULLY grieving during a lot of time after everything that had happened in quick succession, both Luke and Visenya's deaths.
And you know, THAT'S NOT BAD. It gave time to have other characters doing things like Rhaenyra's sons. It explored a side of Rhaenyra and how much her children's death affected her, explicitly showing how much they mattered to her and how brutally it broke her inside (while filling her with pure unadulterated rage after the Gullet). But well, playing devil's advocate, I understand a bit why they didn't go with this since I don't have any faith most watchers would try to emphatize with the grieving mother part of Rhaenyra, and would instead call her a weak queen.
Jace was a supporting and loving son, an extension of Rhaenyra, heart of the Blacks, responsible for the alliances that would bring them to victory by the end of the war. A boy who came to understand and accept his status in the world and used it on a positive note for her mother's cause. A worthy heir to Rhaenyra, one of the few people in this whole period that was worthy of becoming King in the future.
This wasn't about wanting him to do nothing in the show. It was about not butchering his character and be faithful to all the stuff he actually does. But because the writers couldn't (or didn't want to) understand it wasn't Rhaenyra's turn in the characters front lines right now (it would have come later), instead they had to underline him and strip him of everything he did and give it to other characters, while giving him traits and opinions that has made a lot of people despise him.
His fate was meant to be a tragedy that made an apparent victory for the Blacks as hollow and catastrophic as a defeat. And now there's almost no more time and Jace will be remembered by show onlys just for his self-hating identity crisis (which he could have had in the book as well, or before in the show, but not anymore at this point) and his bordering hypocritical classism. Not for everything he actually did and the traits you could imagine of him from what is said in the book.
But hey, apparently a certain part of the fandom thinks that's the only thing that makes a character, a human, complex and interesting.
I don't hate show Rhaenyra. I don't hate show Jacaerys. I will always support Rhaenyra's claim. But I can't just stand after so many decisions that go against them. Especially in the case of Jace who is already receiving such amount of vitriol hate while receiving love just from being victimiced and poor sad boy.
Ah. My boy needs his own sub-team inside Rhaenyra's supporters at this point -- not putting him against Rhaenyra or anyone else. But. Seeing Rhaenyra's stans wishing for his death...
I don't hate the characters. I hate the writers. I hate the changed dynamics, the change in characters' ages, the erasure of Nettles, how Jace was striped from everything his characte is, the stupid decisions....
