Trial and Error (Matt Murdock x Private Investigator!Wife)
Playing With Fire Part 3! Masterlist
Your first day of trial involves many familiar, yet distant faces.
Warnings: I guess mentions of murder, court cases, unfair treatment from the law system, one slight mention of pregnancy.
Tumblr media
You caught a glimpse of his face as he, Karen and Foggy joined you.
Oh that beautiful face, hidden behind a wall of red glass.
Moving towards him wordlessly, you heard the same whimper he'd made when you were being interrogated at the beginning of this nightmare. Nodding to you, Foggy moved Matt's hand to your shoulder as the three of you awkwardly danced around.
"Hi." You crooned, earning a loving squeeze to your shoulder.
"Hi, love." He answered. Voice crack. Even a small flicker of his lips made you want to throw your arms around him, but not here, not now. You had to put on a brave face and keep the interaction professional. Which you'd hated.
"Good to see you, Murdock." A voice called out from next to a pillar. Both you and Matt turned to the name, only you relaxing as you realized who it was.
"Barton?! What are you doing here?" You gave a two-fingered 'salute' from your temple, the sign for 'hello'.
He repeated the action, shaking his head as if to say 'you don't want to know' before continuing on anyways. "They called agent Hill as a witness, given your connection with Ronin in twenty-nineteen."
"Right....that."
"Hey, you've got a good lawyer."
You looked up at Matt with a small smile, before turning back to Clint. "Yes I do, and thanks...for coming today."
"Not a problem."
An awful three words hit you halfway through the trial.
Jury. Paid. Fisk. If he wanted you taken out, he would make sure of it.
Matt must have heard your rising heartbeat, because he took your hand, under the table in his, brushing your wrist briefly. He grimaced as he felt the raw skin where the cuffs had chafed. Squeezing his hand, you focused on his face, noticing the light peppering of stubble on his cheek and the perfectly-combed brown locks you once ran your fingers through. God, you missed him.
Turning your attention back to the trial, Maria was the next called to the stand.
After taking the oath, she faced you for a brief moment.
"Agent Hill." The prosecutor began. "How long have you known y/n Murdock?"
"Since 2012."
"And that was, if I'm not mistaken, the year of the Chitauri invasion? Battle of New York?"
"Yes, it was."
"Do you know what her role was during that time?"
"An agent. She was on the helicarrier bridge, I believe."
"And, in the time that you've known Agent Murdock, has she ever displayed any unwarranted malicious behavior, unaffiliated with the job?"
"Never."
The prosecutor seemed unhappy with the answer.
Oh how you read that tell.
"So tell me, how you would describe y/n?"
"She's got a big heart. Much like her husband, she does the job pro-bono for the more unfortunate. She's never killed a single human being, and never hurt one without justifiable reason."
"And when you say...'without justifiable reason', are you implying that she has, in fact, injured someone?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
"When the Winter Soldier attacked her, Steve Rogers and Agent Romanoff once. He got away but not without a shot from Murdock."
"And with the dissipation of S.H.E.I.L.D., is she under protection for any wrongdoing?"
"No, she is not."
"No more questions your honor."
"Mr. Murdock, would you like to cross-examine the witness? The judge asked.
"Ah, yes."
He let go of your hand, standing up and 'feeling' his way around with his cane, stopping in front of the stand.
"Agent Hill. I understand that you are, -were, an agent of S.H.E.I.L.D. Are you by any chance still active in duty?"
"As an assistant to Director Fury, yes."
"And what exactly does Director Fury do?"
"Well, um, we recruit the remaining Avengers concerning large threats, operations, etc."
"So technically, S.H.E.I.L.D. is still in operation?"
"Not exactly. There's very few agents and technology left. Like I said we're more of a recruiting branch."
"Thank you, Agent. I have no more questions, your honor."
You felt like a high schooler having to meet curfew again as you parted ways, getting dragged back to your cage. A small kiss was all the two of you could spare before being pulled away for who knows how long again.

From the report by Roger Sollenberger, posted 22 Nov 2023:
The nonprofit, called American Compass, included the names of five donor organizations on a schedule in its 2022 tax statement, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Beast. The page header says, “Do Not File” and “Not Open to Public Inspection,” indicating the donors may have been accidentally disclosed. Of the five groups, two stand out for their prominent histories of supporting liberal causes—the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Omidyar Network Foundation.
* * * *
The donations are striking because American Compass is a partner organization in Project 2025, a controversial right-wing think tank that has been building the policy and personnel firmament for a second Trump administration. Project 2025 is an arm of the Heritage Foundation and it has been criticized for its hard-right, authoritarian agenda—including “dehumanizing” rhetoric towards the LGBTQ community, re-upping Trump’s attempt to include citizenship on the census, leveraging the power of the Justice Department to crack down on critics, and a potentially unconstitutional plan to sic U.S. troops on domestic protesters. Project 2025 backers include xenophobic Trump advisers Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon, as well as Christian nationalist and former Trump budget chief Russ Vought, one of the group’s top advisers. According to The Washington Post, Project 2025 has been crafting “specific plans for using the federal government to punish critics and opponents,” with Trump himself “naming individuals he wants to investigate or prosecute.” The group is also “drafting plans to potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office to allow him to deploy the military against civil demonstrations,” the Post reported. American Compass—whose specific political allegiances lie with the so-called “New Right”—boasts other ties to anti-democratic, pro-Trump luminaries. For instance, the address on its tax filing is inside the Conservative Partnership Institute, which employs Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows and political attorney Cleta Mitchell, another architect of Trump’s potentially criminal plot to overturn the 2020 election. CPI is another key force behind Project 2025.
* * * *
American Compass founder Oren Cass—a former Bain executive and adviser to Mitt Romney’s failed 2012 presidential bid—has staked out what he casts as a more labor-friendly economic conservatism. While he has advocated for “genuine” bipartisanship, Cass is also aligned with the New Right. He rejects many of the absolutist tenets of laissez-faire capitalism that the GOP has held dear for so long, arguing that free-market fundamentals have failed the American worker. Last year, Cass drew a salary of $275,000 from his nonprofit—more than one out of every four dollars raised. Writing about Cass and his New Right peers in June, New York Times columnist David Leonhardt emphasized the caveat that, while these Republicans rage against the free market, “they really are conservative.” This movement, Leonhardt cautioned, should not be mistaken for “disaffected right-wingers who have become moderates without admitting it,” noting that they “support abortion restrictions and oppose gun laws” and “make excuses for Donald Trump’s anti-democratic behavior or even spread his falsehoods.” The departures from traditional conservatism are indeed stark enough to be deceptive, or at least distracting. For instance, while American Compass criticized the Trump and Bush tax cuts, the group has also called to abolish corporate income tax altogether, replacing it with a tax on asset trading in the secondary market. But the rhetoric has apparently been good for fundraising. In 2020, the group’s founding year, Cass trashed free-market absolutism in a Hewlett Foundation interview; that year, Hewlett donated $611,000 to American Compass—nearly half the group’s total founding revenue, and half of what Hewlett gave NPR in 2020. About $198,000 of American Compass’ 2020 revenue went to Cass’ salary. While Cass delivers sharp, almost heretical rebukes of historical conservative economic principles, he also carries conservative banners—for instance, cultural and economic criticism of college education and student debt relief, for instance. He and his New Right cohort are not inclusive, pushing a fierce nationalism with an illiberal agenda of its own. (Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and J.D. Vance (R-OH) are all seen as flag bearers.) That position has been most broadly articulated by a group called American Moment, a conservative nonprofit that is close with Cass and has featured him in its lecture series. (American Moment’s board includes hard-right up-and-comers like Ryan Girdusky and anti-LGBTQ activist Terry Schilling. The board also has strong ties to the right-wing Clermont Institute.) As analysts unravel Project 2025’s 902-page “Mandate for Leadership,” they’ve found something of an underlying Christian nationalist manifesto.

“Excuse me! Out of the way!”
Your eyes met Steve’s as you heard Hank Pym’s rushed voice outside the room you two were hiding at. He gave you a single nod, indicating for you both to go. You were the first one to step out of the office. Wearing a white blouse and dark blue office pants, you managed to fit in the settings as a faux SHIELD agent in the 70s. While your boyfriend, on the other hand, is dressed in green khakis and a low-pulled cap as one of the soldiers.
Your heart is still in the same rapid pace ever since you, Steve, and Tony arrived at this timeline in Camp Lehigh. This whole thing was not part of the plan. You four, including Scott, were only supposed to get the Mind Stone in 2012’s Battle of New York. But with things not going according to plan, you ended up looking for the said stone in another timeline. Being a then-agent of SHIELD, you memorized the organization’s history and even maps.
Steve didn’t want you to go with them at first, expressing worries about the possible dangers ahead. You and Steve have been together for years now. You were co-workers before any of this, and you already talked about the pros and cons of being an Avenger. But after a quick talk and backup from Tony, he lets you go with them. You tried to remain optimistic as you three prepare the timeline in your gadgets. But you were internally screaming as this is not part of the plan and you always prefer things in the plan. Natasha told you she always felt the same way too in every kind of mission she does, she just doesn’t let the team know. But when your boyfriend reached for your hand before traveling through time again, you felt a tiny sense of relief in your head.
That’s how you ended up here. Spotting Hank Pym’s name on one of the doors, you and Steve quietly walked into the laboratory.
“Thank God, he doesn’t have any assistant here,” you whispered as you both looked around the place.

You were looking around the place when you hear Steve say, “Doll, it’s here.”
When you turned your head at him, his hand was already retrieving enough Pym Particle vials. He looked back at you with a smile as he slid the vials carefully into both of his pockets, “Let’s get out of here.”
Just like earlier, you exit the laboratory first with him following behind, looking down. Tony advised you two to walk in that order. So that, any type of attention can be avoided towards the Captain. You were even surprised how the female agent in the elevator, who talked directly at you after Tony stepped out, did not recognize who was the man behind you. You were closed to the elevator when you see the same woman with two uniformed guys.
“You’ve never seen either of these people before?” one asked, making you pause as you heard him.
Your eyes moved to the agent, “No. But I have an eye for this. Something looked fishy.”
Your eyes widened and about to turn around to Steve when you felt him pulling you in one of the doors again.
“Oh, shit. That was close.” you exhaled a big puff of air before chuckling. You heard Steve chuckle too.
The room was dimmed and empty of people so you did not waste any more attention examining the whole office. When you heard the people you were hiding on passed by, you turned to Steve.
“Babe, let’s–”
You stopped when you noticed him taking a step closer to a table. He was eyeing one of the framed pictures there. Your eyebrows scrunched before moving your sight to the picture. It was him. Steve. Before he got the super-soldier serum. Immediately, you cocked your head to see what was labeled on the door.
MARGARET CARTER
DIRECTOR
You let out a quiet gasp at the same time you sensed a heavy feeling in your stomach. Then, you looked back. Steve was staring at the door too. His expression… was something though. You tried to read him but the more his emotions became evident on his face, your heart was twisted tighter and tighter. His dark blue eyes transitioned from surprise to longing and you swore you heard your heart breaking.
It was like everything around him went blank and silent. Steve held the frame in his hands and when he heard a door slam shut, he looked up. In between the glass and its blinds, he sees her. Peggy. It was like he sensed his own heart beating heavier and slower. He held the picture frame firmer in his hands. It has been twenty-five years since he died but she still kept his image on her desk.
“Oh, for the love of- I’ll find the weather projections. You call Braddock and tell him to shelter in place. Assuming he’s bright enough to come out of the rain.”
He watched her as she seemed infuriated while conversing with a guy. And when she walked closer to the glass to read through the files, Steve absentmindedly walked closer too. Just to see her closer again at this state, behind the blinds. He takes in her blue eyes, her scarlet red lips, and the same dark brown she always sported. For the first time in years since he came back from ice, he sees the same Peggy he met before anything happened.
“It’s not lightning strikes he’s looking at…”
Peggy spun and strolled outside her office, unaware of two other people watching her back from the other side of the glass. The door slammed once again and Steve looked down. He let out a small but heavy sigh, sensing a mixed emotion of slight frustration and sadness.
“S-Steve?” your shaky voice called him out.
His head snapped up as he heard you. He remembered you were there with him too. Regret immediately sinks into his skin. Behind him, you watched everything happen. The more seconds passed by when he was looking at her, the more you felt harder to breathe. Steve barely hid anything from you about Peggy. He told stories from his past and you always listen and understand who she was in his life. He never fails to explain that he already moved past her and everything that happened in his past. But seeing him almost dazed after seeing Peggy again, revived that insecurity you had in the beginnings of your relationship. His reaction dug up those thoughts you thought you buried deep in your mind years ago.
You swallowed the imaginary lump you felt in your throat before you spoke again, “Let’s go?”
He nods and you stepped outside. Steve continued looking down, still avoiding any eye contact from everyone. That’s when he noticed your hands both formed into clenched fists on each side of your body. Like you were keeping things to yourself. Fortunately, the elevator was empty as you two rode in. But he persisted in staring down while guilt ate him up like an early breakfast. He stole a few short glances at you and you were just staring ahead with your arms crossed. The only sound that was made was you letting out a long, chilling sigh. Up until you arrived back on the camp’s grounds, you remained quiet. You and Steve are now walking side by side but it was like you two were miles and miles apart.
Steve gulped before he broke the silence, “Let’s wait here.”
You followed him, standing in between military vehicles. You see him nodding at someone, so you tracked his gaze and see Tony pointing to his briefcase while holding a bouquet of flowers. Out of relief, your lips formed a tentative smile before you noticed a familiar man approaching him.
“It’s Howard…” you whispered.
Tony hugged his father one last time before walking to you and Steve. He wore a contented smile on his face and somehow, your heart felt a little happy. But when your eyes met Steve’s baby blue ones, that happiness quickly faded. Steve, on the other hand, just wanted to talk to you as soon as possible. But knowing you, your main priority would be finishing this mission.
There was a big silence and obvious tension. Even Tony felt it. He watched as you and your boyfriend share glances. Now wanting to waste any more time, he decided to just break the awkward surface.
“Let’s go, guys. Better bring this blue stone before anyone notices us.”
He was successful, splitting your distracted minds. You two nodded and began clicking on your gadgets again. Before time traveling once again, you did not expect Steve to give your hand a soft squeeze again. Your emotions did not change but you simply nodded.
“Let’s go.”

“This is a joke, right?” She demanded, leaning forward on the table, handcuffs clinking against the metal. “I don’t need a lawyer.”
She absolutely needed a lawyer, in all actuality.
Ever since Sokovia, her life had been nothing but chaos. And with her stupid decision to help Steve fight for Bucky, life only got worse. You’d think being an Avenger would have cut her some slack, but since she ran…well, governments weren’t exactly nice. She knew it was a only matter of time; they had caught Scott Lang before they caught her. He probably ratted her out on accident.
“You definitely need a lawyer, miss,” Matt countered as Foggy opened her file. “You understand you’re considered an international terrorist, right?”
“It’s not my fault Stark built a robot that destroyed a country —“
“You also helped Sergeant Barnes escape —“
“He’s an innocent man —“
“And so are you.”
She knew he couldn’t see her staring him down, but god she hoped he could feel it. Hoped it burned a hole in his stupid, pretty face. Foggy was looking between the two, waiting for one of them to act; but she wasn’t going to hit a blind man. Not yet, anyway.
“Why do you want to help me?”
“Honestly, you’d be our biggest case yet. It would do us wonders,” Foggy explained, folding his hands on the table in front of them. She narrowed her eyes and clenched her fists, resisting the urge to flick him off.
Matt adjusted his glasses though, a light smirk on his lips. She wanted to wipe it off his face. “And I’m Catholic; I have a thing for lost causes.”
“You’re both assholes.” The lawyers in front of her shrugged half heartedly, clearly not insulted by her. “You realize I’m a former SHIELD operative, right? And an Avenger? Both of which can get me out of this.”
“‘Former’ is the key word,” Matt pointed out, resting his hands on the table now, folding the them neatly over each other. “SHIELD fell in 2014; you should know. You were there for that too.”
“Okay but Fury —“
“Is not here to help you. Nor do I see Mr. Stark or Captain Rogers.” Matt leaned forward some and she could see his jaw tighten. She was getting under his skin; good. “Though I don’t think the former would help you regardless.”
“You can’t see anything so you don’t know whose here or not,” she countered, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms.
“Are you making fun of a blind man, miss?”
“I’m just pointing out the obvious.”
Foggy ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head. “We’re just trying to help you.”
“No, you’re using me for good press. But I hate to break it to you,” she leaned in once more, narrowing her eyes. “Not only am I not going to pay you for shit, but I couldn’t if I wanted to. It’s not like I got paid to be a superhero.”
“We work pro bono,” Matt explained, his demeanor relaxing once more.
“They wanna offer you a plea deal and we think you should take it.”
“If I’m innocent —“
“By the extent of the law, Miss, you’re not. You have harbored a fugitive, run from the government, and caused massive amounts of damage across the world,” Matt explained, sliding her file over the table. She peered over it, frowning as she read ‘DANGEROUS: DO NOT APPROACH’ in red, bold letters. “While your actions might be justified, in the eyes of the court…”
She reached out and took her file, thumbing through the pages. A lot of the information was redacted —how she came to work for SHIELD, how she joined the Avengers. Her addresses and family members were redacted, as well an entire blacked out page about her medical history.
That she was thankful for. No one needed to know that.
However, her various missions with the Avengers —ranging from 2012 up until recently were free to read. As well as several of her missions through SHIELD prior to joining the team. She was considered dangerous, and a threat to society if not under someone’s thumb. What a sad life to live, honestly.
“I’m a criminal,” she finished for him, closing the file and looking up at him. “What’s the deal?”
“If you plead guilty, we have negotiated to have you placed on house arrest like Mr. Lang. Yours would be more lenient; you’d be able to go to the grocery store on the corner, to parts of your apartment building, as well as your court mandated therapy sessions —“
“Fuck therapy, I’m not criminally insane —“
Matt continued, simply ignoring her. “And it would only be for the year. Since you have no prior record, as well as the positive work you’ve done for the country as a SHIELD operative, the UN’s general assembly and security council is willing to skip a trial if you accept this.”
She pushed the file across the table, and Matt caught it without issue. She watched him carefully, considering her options. Plead guilty and be trapped inside for a year —and barely, for that matter. Scott was stuck for two years minimum and couldn’t go anywhere. She could go to the store, at least. And therapy. She’d have to go therapy. Did she really hate the idea of therapy so much that she was willing to go to prison over it?
The correct answer should be no, she didn’t hate it. But she was really considering it.
“There’s like two more things though,” Foggy quickly continued, watching her closely. She frowned. “You can’t break the Sokovia Accords again; if you do, you will arrested and will be sentenced to two to three years in prison. However…if you tell us where Captain Rogers or Sergeant Barnes are —“
“No,” she snapped at him. “Even if I knew where they were, I wouldn’t give them up. But they dipped and I haven’t seen them since.”
It wasn’t a lie; there was no need to lie. Steve knew better than to put the rest of his team at risk any further. When they were released from the Raft, that was the last she had seen of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. For now, at least.
“I believe you,” Matt responded, his tone light and calmer than it had been their entire meeting. “If you don’t know, you don’t know. But your options are limited now.”
Be a hero or be a government tool. That’s what her options were.
She sure as hell wasn’t going to let someone like Ross have any control over what she did.
“Fine,” she finally caved, running her hands over her face. “Fine, yeah. I’ll accept the fucking deal.”
“This is the best decision you could have made,” Matt offered as reassurance.
She watched him carefully, eyes narrowed some. “Whatever. Just get me out of these cuffs so I can go home.”
Matt stood, adjusting his cane to ensure his stability, then laughed some. “You should be a bit nicer to the people who just got you off.”
“Maybe if it had been in the fun way, I would be.”
Matt opened his mouth to retort but Foggy made a gagging sound. “Don’t you respond to that, Murdock. I swear to god,” Foggy pushed Matt out the door before any other comments could be made.
*****
House arrest wasn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world, she decided a month or so into her sentence.
Following all the protocols was annoying. She had to call Jimmy Woo every time she wanted to go to the store. And every Thursday when she went to therapy. Sometimes, she’d have an escort when they felt she was going out too much (“How many boxes of tampons does one woman need?” “Do you understand that I have to use like two a day, right? And that like, with all the medical stuff, sometimes my cycle will last like three —“ “Please stop it’s fine. Let’s just go.”).
But otherwise, she was okay. Her bookshelf was finally getting a dent in it. And she had forced Woo to go buy her paint so she was painting various rooms. She was considering starting an online degree; something to fill the time. After all, if she was being forced to retire, she’d need to enter the workforce somehow. But she spent a lot of time in the apartment gym, and on the roof. And at the pool. Things were okay. She was okay. She could do a year of this.
Therapy wasn’t okay. And a year of that might kill her.
She wondered if she would ever actually enjoy talking to her therapist. Every time she went, all she wanted to do was stuff cotton in her ears. It was all coping mechanisms and trying to get her to admit she was filling a void somehow with vigilantism. They kept saying they wanted to help; that if they could diagnose her with PTSD or anxiety or something —that could explain her behaviors.
Of course she had PTSD though. She actively worked in a field where she watched people die. Where she let people die. Where she killed people. And she’s had diagnosed anxiety since she was 16; she tried explaining that and the therapist didn’t seem to listen. She knew exactly why she did the things she did; there wasn’t a need for some government appointed therapist to tell her.
“Could it be related to your…abilities?” The therapist had asked her today.
“Could what be?”
“Your anxiety.”
“I mean when you’re forcibly experimented on from ages 10 to 16, probably.”
That was an admission though. She had finally admitted something that the therapist didn’t know. And she cursed under her breath when she realized it. The therapist seemed thrilled that she finally got something from her though.
“Can you elaborate on that?” They asked.
“I’d rather not.”
The therapist glanced at the clock and sighed, taking off his glasses. “Next week then. Maybe write it down; it could help.”
She gave him a clearly faked smile and stood, exiting without a word. Jimmy sat outside, waiting for her like he always did. Coffee in hand, he held it out to her as he stood up.
“Your lawyer is outside.”
“Which one? Weird name or blind guy?”
“Blind guy.”
“Phenomenal.”
She took her coffee from him, following close behind as they exited the building. Jimmy wasn’t lying (not that she thought he was, but she had kind of hoped he was), as Matt was leaning against the wall, cane resting against his shoulder.
“Agent Woo, thank you for letting me wait for her,” he offered with a polite smile, extending his hand.
“How did you —“
“Lucky guess; I’ve tried it on a few people so far.”
She watched the exchange with narrowed eyes, frowning some as the men shook hands. Jimmy explained that Matt had requested a meeting and with given permission from the courts, she was left in his watch. Jimmy was relieved to be given a break, but warned that she was to be taken straight back to her apartment. Matt promised and they were off.
“Two things,” she started, standing there for a second. “We don’t have a car, so we have to walk. And also, how can I be under your watch if you can’t see me?”
Matt laughed, shaking his head. “May I?” He asked, touching her arm lightly. She hesitated then nodded. “If you nodded —“
“Fuck, sorry. Yeah go ahead.”
He laughed again, and she hated that she was starting to like the sound of it. Relaxing, she let him hold her arm and they began to walk down the street. His grip was sure but gentle, and she couldn’t help but enjoy the feeling.
“I don’t need to see you to keep watch over you,” he explained, allowing her to take the lead. His cane was resting against his chest again, just enough to not be in the way of them walking but enough for him to use it if needed. “And what are you gonna do? Hit a blind man?”
“I’m tempted every time we meet, Murdock.”
“I’ll pray for you then.”
She laughed this time, unable to help herself. “What do you want?” She finally asked, looking at him as they stopped at a cross walk. “You did your job and if you’re trying to bill me —“
He shook his head, smiling as he instinctively looked down. “No, no I’m not here to bill you. Much to Foggy’s dismay.” She watched him, taking in the bruises that seemed to be healing over, but noted the others that were just forming over his cheeks and neck. “I honestly just wanted to check on you. House arrest isn’t easy on anyone.”
“House arrest isn’t bad. Take half a step to your right.” She nudged him over some, stepping over someone’s leg that was sitting out in the walkway, someone asking for money that she didn’t have. She moved back towards the center of the sidewalk. “It’s the therapy that’s probably gonna kill me.”
He thanked her for avoiding the person, then chuckled at her dislike of therapy. “It can’t be that bad. Have you actually opened up?”
“If you think I’m gonna tell you anything I’ve told them, you’re blind and stupid.”
“You really could stand to be nicer, you know.”
“I’m walking my lawyer to my apartment, after he lied to my court appointed babysitter to talk to me. Why should I be nice?”
“Because I lied to your court appointed babysitter and now you have a friend to talk to.”
She scoffed, elbowing him in the side. “I thought it was a sin to lie.”
“I’ve been to church a lot since I met you.”
Something about his tone shifted when he said that, and her heartbeat picked up as she flushed. Unbeknownst to her, Matt picked up on her reaction immediately, feeling her pulse quicken in his grasp on her arm. Hearing her heartbeat faster. Whatever the implication there was, she wasn’t sure what to do with it; what was she supposed to say? Sorry you’re going to hell because of me? That seemed cross, even for her.
“I’m…I’m sorry,” was what she managed to say.
Jesus Christ.

Black Widow Timeline Explained
https://ift.tt/3yH3sEi
This article contains Black Widow spoilers. Read our spoiler-free review here.
Who is Natasha Romanoff? It’s a question Marvel Studios coyly teased for years and then… failed to answer as a full decade and the entire “Infinity Saga” passed us by. Yes, the long overdue Black Widow movie is finally reaching theaters this weekend, but Nat was killed off years ago in the sacred timeline of Marvel Cinematic Universe canon.
Nevertheless, we are happy that the character and Scarlett Johansson received some much deserved closure, and in a film which fills in many of the blindspots in the Black Widow mythos, not least of which includes what she got up to between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
With her narrative being seemingly closed for good, it’s time to unpack the oft-obscured life story of Natasha and consider whether she at last balanced out all that red in her ledger.
1984
The child who would become Natasha Romanoff is born in Stalingrad to a mother who is forced to give her over to the Soviet government. Despite the mother’s best efforts, she is unable to free Nat from the system. (Fury’s Big Week, Black Widow)
1992
After years of indoctrination and training in the Widow program, which is run out of Soviet Col. Dreykov’s Red Room, eight-year-old Natasha is selected alongside three-year-old Yelena to be part of KGB agents Alexi Shostakov and Melina Vostokoff’s cover story. The quartet of sleeper agents move to Ohio, posing as an all-American family while gathering American state secrets. (Black Widow)
1995
Alexi and Melina succeed in obtaining critical information and escape U.S. soil. Eleven-year-old Natasha and six-year-old Yelena, who’ve become increasingly Americanized and attached to the family identities they assumed, are traumatized. (Black Widow)
2002
Natasha completes her Widow training and graduates from the Red Room, which includes a “ceremony” where she is asked to execute a man bound to a chair. She is then sterilized on an operating table. Dreykov believes robbing “widows” of the chance to have children makes them more ruthless killers. (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
2002 – 2007
Natasha is involved in multiple mysterious and apparently bloody Widow operations, which include incidents of murder in São Paulo and a separate “hospital fire” atrocity she is still haunted by. (The Avengers)
2007 – 2008
Clint Barton recruits Natasha into the West’s international SHIELD organization. Part of her defection comes at the price of assassinating Dreykov in Budapest. However, it is merely Dreykov’s young daughter Antonia who feels the fire of Nat’s explosives. (The Avengers, Black Widow)
2009
Natasha has her first run in with the Winter Soldier when she attempts to extract a defecting nuclear engineer out of Iran. A brainwashed Bucky Barnes steals her prize by running her car off a cliff in Ukraine and then shooting a bullet through Nat’s stomach and into her asset—killing him instantly. (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Around this time, Natasha becomes an unofficial member of Clint Barton’s secret family, who live on an idyllic farmhouse. She’s known there as Auntie Nat. (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
2010
Natasha infiltrates Stark Industries under the alias of Natalie Rushman, working as a legal assistant who moonlights as a model in order to catch Tony Stark’s lascivious eye. (Iron Man 2)
Natalie becomes Tony’s assistant but is actually spying on him for SHIELD, which has come to realize Tony’s arc reactor—which saved his life in Afghanistan—is now poisoning him. Nat eventually reveals she’s a SHIELD agent and helps prevent an assassination attempt on Stark’s life by rival forces. (Iron Man 2)

2012
Nat abandons her infiltration of the Russian underworld to recruit Bruce Banner to SHIELD after Loki arrives on Earth, brainwashing Clint Barton and planning world domination. She later successfully interrogates and manipulates the supposed God of Mischief. (The Avengers)
Natasha becomes one of the founding members of the Avengers after saving the world from an alien invasion alongside Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk in the Battle of New York. (The Avengers)
2014
Still working for SHIELD, Natasha infiltrates a pirate-commandeered SHIELD vessel to protect/steal precious SHIELD secrets while Captain America naively thinks they’re there to save hostages. (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Black Widow goes rogue alongside Cap after an assassination attempt on her mentor, Col. Nick Fury. Fury of course survived and forms an underground operation with Nat and Rogers to root out HYDRA sleeper cells who’ve slowly taken over SHIELD leadership during the past 70 years. (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
After saving the world from HYDRA’s latest attempt at world domination, Natasha publicly reprimands the American government at a baffling Capitol Hill hearing where she is being questioned by Pentagon brass. (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
… MEANWHILE the Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton from circa 2023—nearly a decade older and sadder—time travel to 2014 in order to undo the damage Thanos caused when he snapped half of life in the universe out of existence with the Infinity Stones. They journey to the planet Vormir where they’re told one will have to die in order to obtain the Soul Stone. Black Widow and Hawkeye fight over who will have the right to sacrifice themselves for the other—Natasha wins and falls to her death, thus ending her tragic timeline in the past. (Avengers: Endgame)
2015
Black Widow becomes a full-time Avenger, joining the team as they dismantle the last HYDRA base in Sokovia. They regain Loki’s powerful scepter with an infinity stone inside. (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Black Widow strikes up an intimate and unrequited connection with Bruce Banner. She is the only Avenger able to talk the Hulk down from his rages. The pair consider running off together, but their burgeoning romance is thwarted by the arrival of Ultron—an artificial intelligence that wants to… destroy the world. (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Nat and the Avengers prevent Ultron from killing all organic life on Earth—which involved lifting Sokovia’s capital city into the sky and then dropping it like an asteroid—but in the carnage, Banner/Hulk chooses not to pursue a relationship with Nat, disappearing to parts unknown as she accepts her role as a leader of the growing Avengers roster. (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
2016
Black Widow is part of an Avengers operation in Lagos, Nigeria, which goes horribly wrong when in an attempt to stop terrorist Brock Rumlow from stealing a biological weapon, an entire office floor of civilians is killed. (Captain America: Civil War)
Shortly after the Lagos incident, the Sokovia Accords are signed by the UN, requiring Avengers and other superpowered individuals to register themselves under the jurisdiction of the UN Security Council. Natasha at first accepts this as a reasonable path forward. She changes her mind when pro-Accords Avenger Tony Stark comes to blows with the resident skeptic, Steve Rogers, in Berlin. Romanoff helps Rogers escape and then also goes to ground. (Captain America: Civil War)
As a rogue agent, Natasha is invited back to Budapest and reunites with her faux-little sister Yelena, who reveals Dreykov is still alive and now is literally controlling the minds of the other young women he’s trained to be widows via mind-altering drugs. (Black Widow)
Nat and Yelena decide to track Dreykov down and kill him for real, and do so by freeing their “father” Alexi from Siberia and reconnecting with their “mother” Melina, who is still loyal to the Widow program. Melina nonetheless takes her girls to the Red Room, the hidden air fortress where they were trained as children. Yelena kills Dreykov and Natasha frees all the women under Dreykov’s control, including his daughter who did not actually die in Budapest. (Black Widow)
Natasha reconnects with Steve Rogers and helps him free Wanda Maximoff, Scott Lang, Sam Wilson, and Clint Barton from the government’s “the Raft” prison vessel. (Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow)
2018
As Thanos’ alien forces invade Earth, Rogers, Romanoff, and other renegade Avengers come out of hiding to save the universe. Natasha is reunited with Banner, and all of them converge in an epic battle against the armies of Thanos in Wakanda. (Avengers: Infinity War)
After the Avengers fail to stop Thanos from collecting all the Infinity Stones, Nat watches many of her friends turn to dust, along with half the living creatures in existence. (Avengers: Infinity War)
Black Widow and the Avengers track Thanos down to an uninhabited planet, only to discover he’s destroyed the Infinity Stones they planned to use to resurrect the universe. Thor decapitates Thanos in a pyrrhic attempt at revenge. (Avengers: Endgame)
2023
Natasha has become the top leader of the Avengers, organizing their superheroism throughout the cosmos via intergalactic Zoom sessions with Captain Marvel, Rocket, and others. Yet she and Rogers quietly cling to the hope of reversing Thanos’ victory. (Avengers: Endgame)
When Scott Lang returns from the Quantum Realm, revealing he’s inadvertently discovered time travel, Nat and Steve get the original Avengers lineup back together to travel into the past in order to steal the Infinity Stones. Return to the 2014 section to find out how that ended for Black Widow… (Avengers: Endgame)
2024
After Natasha traveled to her destiny in the past, Yelena visits her grave in Ohio… and is recruited for a new kind of team. (Black Widow)

I just want a fic set after Black Widow but before Endgame where Alexei Shostakov / The Red Guardian finally gets to meet Steve Rogers and all the hilarious misunderstanding that comes from Alexei being the soviet super solider who operated at the height of the Cold War and at least his major formative years were during it compared to Steven Grant Rogers born in 1918 and went into the ice in early 1945 - when the American government was partnering with Hollywood to pump out a dozen PRO-SOVIET films pushing the whole "America's Great Ally Against Hitler!" propaganda angle - and didn't come back until 2012, completely missing the whole Cold War.

how are you feeling? physically and mentally.

where are you living? the same place you lived in 2012, or displaced to a random apartment? explain to the best of your ability.

❝  as of the year of 2012 i was. and for the sake of their knowledge, i am, but the government, s.h.i.e.l.d., you know the truth. we can use this to our advantage and stop what we can, but trust isn’t a luxury they’ll ever be afforded. they aren’t what they were made for, and we’ll expose that.  ❞
what are your worries?
❝  that this might be too much, too many situations we can save but we won’t because of what it could mean and do to the future. we can’t afford to be selfish.  ❞
what do you think are the pros about this situation?
❝  we might get to right the wrongs we did and save a whole lot of people doing it. we owe them that. ❞

NOTES: Full HD stageshot filmed from the front orchestra! This is fairly better than the other stageshot, including less heads, more facial features, but one major head that's sometimes filmed around whenever the master isn't wandering downward. Great video quality overall and it includes full Act One and Act Two starting at Beetlejuice's entrance after Girl Scout through Curtain Call!

Beetlejuice - Broadway - March, 2019 (Preview) (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice), Sophia Anne Caruso (Lydia Deetz), Kerry Butler (Barbara Maitland), Rob McClure (Adam Maitland), Adam Dannheisser (Charles Deetz), Leslie Kritzer (Delia Deetz/Miss Argentina), Kelvin Moon Loh (Otho), Danny Rutigliano (Maxie Dean), Jill Abramovitz (Maxie Dean/Juno)
NOTES: Previews! This is probably my most obstructed bootleg ever. When I could get zooms they’re pretty (and I’m really trying my hardest for both Sophia and Kerry - “Dead Mom” looks GREAT and is really consistent), but I would probably consider this more like highlights with how many heads keep popping up. I don’t love it, but you can keep up with what is happening and see the WILD effects they have going on here...which is good enough for now. Video starts at “Ready, Set, Not Yet” and is complete from there. And honestly this video (and this show) is worth it just for “Dead Mom.”
Beetlejuice - Broadway - November, 2019 (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Will Blum (u/s Beetlejuice), Sophia Anne Caruso (Lydia Deetz), Kerry Butler (Barbara Maitland), David Josefsberg (Adam Maitland), Adam Dannheisser (Charles Deetz), Kim Sava (u/s Delia Deetz/Miss Argentina), Sean Montgomery (u/s Otho), Danny Rutigliano (Maxie Dean), Jill Abramovitz (Maxie Dean/Juno)
NOTES: A few heads show up briefly and a quick video drop after the first two songs. Covers from opening song to final applause, great shot.

NOTES: YouTube rip of various clips of Dana Steingold in the role of Lydia. Highlights include Invisible, Dead Mom, Home, and curtain call.

NOTES: Full HD stageshot of this incredible show! Filmed from the rear orchestra without zooms, with a lot of head obstructions.
Beetlejuice - Broadway - September, 2019 (2) (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice), Presley Ryan (u/s Lydia Deetz), Kerry Butler (Barbara Maitland), David Josefsberg (Adam Maitland), Adam Dannheisser (Charles Deetz), Leslie Kritzer (Delia Deetz/Miss Argentina), Danny Rutigliano (Maxie Dean), Jill Abramovitz (Maxie Dean/Juno), Dana Steingold (Girl Scout)
NOTES: Beautiful HD capture of the incredible Presley Ryan as Lydia and David’s first week as Adam! Filmed from the left orchestra without obstructions with a mix of wides, mediums, and closeups. This is hands down the best video of the show to date. Starts about 3 minutes into performance (mid whole being dead thing).

NOTES: Most the first hour Act 1 is covered up or shot blind. When there’s something to see, it’s nice. The fidelity is cleaned up from the unfortunate dark ages of when it was shot, but the audio is a touch harsh.

NOTES: Nicely filmed from the balcony with a good balance of close-ups and full stage shots, although a little shaky at times. This is the first (and so far, only) video with Kiril Kulish in the role of Billy. Unfortunately about 15 minutes of the show is missing due to battery issues. What's missing is: Grandma's song "We Go Dancing", the scene between Dad and Tony, the beginning of "Deep Into The Ground", and the scene between Mrs. Wilkinson and Dad discussing Billy's ballet. It appears the filmer was trying to conserve battery power and was trying to focus on Billy's scenes. DVD has been enhanced with main menu and thumbnail images for access to the various songs. A-

They are the same capture it's just the DVD Menu shows the capture date as 3-11-2011 while the poster at the beginning says 3-7-2011 A nice capture of this hilarious original show. A very solid and funny cast. Nikki does a fantastic job acting and vocally. On wide shots there can be heads on the sides, but nothing that really obstructs the action. During Broadway previews, less than a month before the official premiere. So there are differences from the Cast Recording. Very nice video of the show however a bar can be visible in wide shots but it doesn't interfere with anything.

The Book of Mormon - Second National Tour - May 17, 2014 (SJ Bernly's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: David Larsen (Elder Price), Cody Jamison Strand (Elder Cunningham), Tallia Brinson (u/s Nabulungi), Pierce Cassedy (Elder McKinley), James Vincent Meredith (Mafala Hatimbi), Christopher Shyer (Mission President), David Aron Damane (General), Jeff Heimbrock (u/s Cunningham’s Dad)
NOTES: A fantastic capture of the second tour cast. This is the first known dvd of the 2NT, and the cast doesn’t disappoint. David and Cody are strong leads with great voices and comedic timing. Pierce is perfect as McKinley. Tallia also does a great job; she has a strong belt and does an endearing rendition of Sal Tlay Ka Siti. This is a very nice capture with no obstruction or blackouts, and only a bit of washout in superwide shots of high-contrast scenes. The video is very steady and the sound is excellent as usual. It’s filmed in 16:9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. Includes curtain call.
The Book of Mormon - Sweden - 2017 (Highlights) FORMAT:  MKV (HD) CAST: Linus Wahlgren (Elder Price), Per Andersson (Elder Cunningham)
NOTES: Act 1 and first few minutes of Act 2 (until Spooky Mormon Hell Dream) only. Vertical; filmed from a mobile phone. Camera wanders a lot. Lots of washouts and no zooms but audio is clear quality.

NOTES: Workshop all staged on barebones sets. Very interesting changes from the eventual Broadway version, including a much different “All American Prophet” (a squaredaney number called “The Bible is a Trilogy, Too”) This version is far less polished and focused but incredibly interesting to see for fans of the show.

Breakfast at Tiffany's - Broadway - March 9, 2013 (Lanelle's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Cory Michael Smith (Fred), Emilia Clarke (Holly)
NOTES: Shot in between a great deal of heads. Be warned, this production contains nudity during a bathtub scene. The production strays away much from the film that made it so popular.

NOTES: Excellent HD capture of this short lived musical, gone too soon. This is the second and even better capture of the show. Kelli and Steven still creating excellent work here. Gem of a show that should have stuck around longer! A

Brother
Summary: Loki x avengers au, idk man Loki isn’t dead, he missed Thor, nobody trusts him, Tony and Banner feel bad, Loki is slightly losing it but won’t tell anyone
“Loki!” Thor hears Thanos growl as he picks himself off the ground, Rogers is on the ground beside Thanos, Loki holding the gauntlet, if it weren’t for the purple kool-aid man yelling his name Thor would swear he’s dreaming “drop-“ Thanos starts to growl again, starting to stand “lovely to see you again but i must be going now” Lokis smirks before disappearing in a green light. Thor feels his knees wanting to give out but he doesn’t let them “where is he” Thanos growls grabbing Thor by his throat and lifting him off the ground “i., dont, know” Thor wheezes out trying breathe better. “here” he hears his brothers voice to his right, so faint he barely heard it “snap now” Loki states and he looks over to see Loki standing beside banner as the latter screams in pain as he veins light up different colours and then Thanos drops him, he wheezes, catching his breath as he watches Thanos running over to them and without a thought he throws stormbreaker at him and the overgrown eggplant trips over it as Loki holds his palms out and spreads them apart. Thor stops getting up as he sees a green barrier surround his brother and Banner. “Bruce!” Loki spins around to face the man in his hulk form and he replies with a snap. For some reason Loki expects himself to fade away, like ash but he opens his eyes to all of Thanos’ men, ships and the man himself slowly dissolving into thin air. He lets the barrier down watching as the man that tortured and controlled him weakly walked over to a pile of rubble and takes a seat on it “good to see you again reindeer games” Tony pants from a couple feet away before he lays back down exhausted I did it.
“How the hell are you here?!” Natasha threatens sitting on top of Loki and holding a knife to his throat “brother, help please” he looks at Thor who’s still shocked standing still not saying anything “shut up” she snarls pressing the knife harder into his throat, now if it wasn’t his own dagger he wouldn’t be scared “let me up and i’ll tell you all everything” he stares her directly in the eyes hoping that she can see that he’s being honest for once in his life, after a second of glaring she hesitantly removes the knife and stands, never stopping her glare. He lets out a sigh before getting up “did you all really think it would be that easy for me to die?” he asks “well he did see your dead body” clint says obviously disappointed while pointing at Thor, he notices his brother still never moved “brother?” he tries to get his attention ignoring everyones eyes on him, doesnt work “brother” Thor doesnt respond and Loki lets out a mix of a groan and a sigh “can you smack him or something?” he asks Bruce and the man frowns “he was kicking your ass on Sakaar don’t worry about it” Bruce’s mouth moves up and down in surprise before finally saying “you’re Ragnarok Loki?” and he frowns “you’re the Loki that fought and died for his people, not the 2012 Loki that was trying to take over New York” Bruce simply says “god you guys are slow” Natasha sighs before turning and punching Thor in the face, it does the trick but doesn’t hurt him which kinda hurts Nat’s ego “i saw you die” Thor says offended and Loki smirks “so you’ve said before” his smile drops and he sighs going to sit on the couch, Thor, Banner and Tony following right away “so i actually did die but since Hela also died, the names in Hells book wouldnt apply, basically Hell was closed until it found a new owner, there was no other place for me to go but reincarnation, took 5 damn years for my body to regenerate though” he smiles happily “then where will Thanos go” Nat asks and Loki can hear the fear in her voice “oh he’s going to Hell” Loki nods smiling harder “i thought you just said Hell’s closed” Tony frowns taking a sip of his drink “not anymore” he takes Tonys drink and downs it in one gulp ignoring the mans offended look instead focusing on Peter i think that’s his name as he asks “then whos the new owner, or ruler?” He’s sitting with his arms crossed on the armrest of the chair that Doctor Strange is in “me” Loki smirks looking directly at Doctor Strange showing that i am completely unfazed by your suspicion of me so stop glaring “wait why’d you show up after the snap?” Tony says taking a seat again with a new drink and Loki barely stops himself from flinching when did he get up? “my soul was stuck in the soul stone so when you snapped my soul took that opportunity to reunite with my body and then I had to become the ruler of Hell so i took a bit longer than everyone else”
“can we trust you?” Steve asks standing beside peter and doctor strange
“No you cant, i saved the planet for nothing” Loki states sarcastically he then sighs becoming serious “i’ll admit it, i was under mind control when i tried to take over new york but i knew what i was doing, i couldnt say anything because thanos and his people had a psychic connection with me” he looks at Thor knowing he remembers the fight on Stark Tower but he flinched when stark places something around his wrists “this will disable your magic and shock you if you try and leave the building, just until we trust you” Stark adds on when he sees Loki tense “in the meantime you can train people” Stark gets up and downs his drink placing the cup in the sink “i’ll have FRIDAY and Happy make up your room” and Stark walks out almost everyone follows behind him excluding Natasha, Banner,Wanda and Thor. “you so much as act suspicious and i’ll kill you”  Nat snarls
“you think you can win against me?” Loki smirks looking up from the little silver bracelets around his wrists “i got you down 10 minutes ago” she smiles and Loki loves that the smug look on her face will be gone soon
“i don’t favour hitting girls” he leans back placing an arm over the back of the couch and smirks when Natasha gets up and leaves
“what the hell is there to do around here?” he asks “can’t use my magic so what can i do?” he looks to Thor  but his brother still looks kind of shocked   ”it’s no fair putting me up against you if you can bend yourself at 90 degrees” Natasha pants as Loki holds out a hand for her “your enemies don’t care what’s fair” she takes it as he pulls her up with ease “to them it’s simply an advantage” she frowns at him while raising her fists and getting back into a fighting stance and without hesitation she throwing punches faster than a storm but Loki has no problem dodging them. As he dodges one he grabs her arm and moves so that hes standing beside her, her arm straight out and pressed against his chest he pushes down on her chest at the same time that he kicks her legs out from under her but before she can hit the ground he moves his left hand to the back of her head saving her from smacking it into the floor i don’t know how weak these mortals are.He lets go leaving her on the ground panting once again “you’re not skilled enough for me to train” he states walking over to a boxing ring and sitting on the edge “is that a challenge?” she raises her brow easily standing up with confidence “no, it’s a fact” Loki says seriously and Tony barges in “he’s right Cruella DeVille” clearly a jab at her platinum blonde and auburn hair, he points towards the door “can you take off please? i have to talk to Rock of Ages alone” Tony whispers once hes close enough to Natasha and she glares at Loki not wanting to leave him alone with Tony but does as asked.
“you look weird in normal clothes” Tony states once Natasha’s gone studying his grey sweater, black sweatpants and green t-shirt peeking out from under the sweater “you came to talk about my clothes?” Loki asks but Tony dismisses him waving his hands “no no no no” he places his hands in his pockets “just came to warn you that if you so much as act suspicious” he points towards the ceiling “i’ve asked FRIDAY to crank the heat up in whatever room you’re in until you pass out” and in response Loki raises his wrists looking to the silver bracelets “lucky i cant do anything then” Tony smirks “trust is a two way street Diva, i’m willing to trust you so you gotta give us something” he paces a bit “i let you snap these on me without killing you” he raises a wrist again “if i recall, if it weren’t for me you would be dead right now” Loki leans back against the boxing rings barrier and smirks a bit at the shock on Tonys face “what?” he asks after a second “you’re almighty Doctor Strange didn’t tell you?” Loki leans forward resting his elbows on his knees and for a second Tony can see 2012 Loki “you were supposed to snap” Loki states lowly and Tony feels numb.
“how did you know?” Doctor Strange directs at Loki who’s sitting calmly on the couch despite the chaos in the room but Tony interrupts “ah, don’t try and change the subject Bonnie Bennett” Doctor Strange frowns in confusion obviously not knowing who that is “you knew i was going to die thats why you gave Thanos the time stone?” Tony asks and states at the same time “Loki was already dead, you were the last hope” Strange says solemnly and it pisses Tony off “don’t try and act like you feel guilty, you would do anything if it meant saving the planet including letting my daughter grow up without a father” Strange didn’t know what to say because he couldn’t deny it, so instead he turned to Loki who still sat calmly on the couch “how did you know?” he asks no emotion and Loki leans forward slightly eyeing him “how long have you been studying Mystic Arts?” Strange looks up in thought and quickly answers “almost 4 years now” Loki looks disappointed like he expected longer “i’ve been studying every single form of magic for over a thousand years, you really think i haven’t mastered prophecy? my mother was the goddess of prophecy” he leans back relaxing and he looks surprised when Thor speaks to him, they haven’t really talked since he got back “mother taught you prophecy? Loki nods with an “mhmm”
“Mother” Thor asked walking up to his mother who sat on the bench on a balcony “Why do people hate Loki?” he asks taking a seat beside her, Thor was a curious kid “i don’t think they hate him they’re just-” she paused looking out towards the scenery of Asgard while thinking “biased” and Thor looks at her in pure confusion “well my dear son, It is taught that men are meant to fight, that they’re supposed to be strong and at the head of battle, but your brother fights differently, he doesnt go for throwing punches, he prefers things to be quick because he doesn’t like fighting that much so he uses magic as an advantage” she says looking her teen son in the eye “and because of that people think he’s weak or scared but you know what I think” she asks and Thors anger turns back to curiosity “what” he smiles widely making Frigga smile too “I think your brother can be the best fighter there is, i think he can be a healer, a sorcerer and that’s what makes him special, thats what makes people fear and loathe him”
“I only use it when needed” Loki looks at him and Thor tries to hide the fact that he zoned out by trying to make it look like he was thinking “the sun will shine on us again” and Loki doesn’t look ashamed or mad he simply smirks with a nod “all of you are needed for that” Loki looks at everyone in the room “so where are the Gaurdians?” Loki ignores Thors frown because Loki shouldn’t know about them and Steve shakes his head with his arms crossed obviously weary of Loki “we don’t know” Tony walks out “they went to find Flash Gordons woman” Natasha rolls her eyes “can’t you ask that Bifrost keeper of yours if he can see them?” she questions and Scott budges in “yeah lets just go to the new Asgard and ask” he says enthusiastically “Heimdall is dead” Loki and Thor say at the same time and Loki frowns at it “Thanos killed him for sending Banner back when Thanos destroyed our ship” he gets up and heads into the connecting kitchen behind the couch Loki is on “so we have no way of finding them” he says grabbing a beer out of the fridge and Loki wants to fucking stab him “Heimdall wanted me to be his successor awhile ago” Loki says turning to face Thor and he sees his brother almost spit out his beer i wish he did “taught me how to see people but im not as good as him, i don’t know if i could see them considering they could be anywhere” Thor takes another swig of his beer “well practice for a couple days” he says nonchalantly and walks away
“he’s probably just not used to you being here after 5 years” he hears Tony behind him and senses how close he is, he spins around catching Tony’s hand before the man can pat his back in comfort “try and touch me again” Loki snarls squeezing Tonys hand so tight the man cant help but groan lightly “and i’ll break all 14 knuckles in your hand” Loki stands up and let’s go of Tony hand harshly walking out and leaving everyone stunned he was making such good progress “im gonna kill him” Natasha says happily going to follow after him but of course Steve has to stop her “even without magic he’s stronger than us” Nastasha frowns at him he looks at Tony still rubbing his left hand in pain “Thor crushed your suit with his bare hands, I imagine Loki can snap those bracelets off like nothing, we shouldn’t push him”
The next day Loki sat quietly on the couch reading a book, Thor at the other end, Peter sitting in an armchair playing with a colourful cube and Bruce in the other writing things down in a notebook, “hey i’ve always wondered” Peter says and Loki looks up to see him looking right at him and Thor “Asgardians dont speak english so how can we communicate?” he fiddles with the colourful cube in his hands waiting for an answer “it’s called an AllSpeak, it allows Asgardians to speak any and every language” Loki says still flipping through his book he resists flinching when stark bursts through the door with a clap a group of people following in behind him “ok meeting in session” he says with a smile “cap please stop fucking around with mewmew we know you’re worthy” steve stops and drops mjolnir before anyone can see him and gets serious “its mjolnir” Thor retorts and Tony brushes him off “we got a signal on Rockets ship, they got here about 20 minutes ago so they should be here soon” Natasha sits down beside Loki careful not to touch him “and,Peter” the teen straightens up in his seat “Loki is going to train you” Loki doesn’t react but he hears the kid let out a nervous laugh “im just a kid i can’t win against a god” Loki can see Peter point at him out of the corner of his eye and he resists the urge to snap his wrist nobody here is going to hurt you, you are fine, you are safe “you’re the only other person that can compare to his agility and flexibility, not to mention you got spidey sense” Peter raises his eyebrows looking at Steve like he’s lost it “he’s a sorcerer, surely he can block me from sensing him” Loki smirks and closes his eyes concentrating, drowning out the  conversation and once he thinks he’s got it he whips his book at Peter and the teen catches it a split second before it hits him, letting out a breath that he held “Loki!” Thor says like he’s scolding a child “guess i can’t block you out” he holds out a hand towards Peter and he looks confused “the book?” and Peters face drops in realization before throwing the book back to Loki “what if you could block him out?” Steve says and Loki can hear the anger “then a book would have hit him in the face” Loki states going back to reading “someones coming” Peter states looking towards the door the second he feels the hairs on his neck stand up “oh it’s probably the Gaurdians” Tony says sitting beside Peter and he’s right when the door busts open 2014 Gamora, Nebula, Drax, Rocket, Mantis, Quill and Groot walk in “My friends” Thor gets up happily to walk over to them and Loki hides his jealousy, Thors been out of it for days so he turns to see who got his bubbly brother bubbly again and then Loki couldnt breathe, he felt like mjolnir was sitting on his chest when the hammer was clearly nowhere near him, he could barely hear, he felt like he was being held underwater “you’ve heard of my brother” he hears Thor through the drowning in his ears and no matter how much Loki wants to run he cant panicking, trying to swim back to the surface, screaming for help but nothing comes, “Loki?” Gamora says like she couldn’t believe her eyes, she couldnt believe he was alive is the first thing in Lokis mind “you know him?” Thor turns to Gamora frowning he feels his nerves turn to ice, ironic since he’s a Frost Giant “my father made me torture him” Gamora says quietly and Loki can hear and feel her remorse but that isnt enough. That doesnt make up for the 547 days that he was tortured, the 547 days he begged for his brother and mother, the 547 days that he thought he was safe only to be met with Thanos and Gamora again and again, the 547 days he tried to keep himself together, the 500 days that he kept his pride together, the 47 days that he wished for death, the 47 days that he prayed to any God that it would be over soon it doesnt make up for the 547 days of pure agony and suffering, filled with illusions, blood, broken promises and so much pain.
He must’ve froze in shock because Bruce snaps him out of it “Loki? hey?” Loki looks at Bruce trying to control his breathing then back to Gamora, Nebula and Thor, he couldn’t do it. He snapped the bracelet off his left wrist like glass, Natasha grabbed his wrist trying to stop him but he twisted her wrist causing her to fall to the floor and before anyone else could get close enough the second bracelet was gone and so was he. “what the fuck just happened” Natasha said sitting up on the floor “Thor go check your brothers room” Tony points at him Thor looks between him and Gamora obviously trying to process everything “go!” Tony yells and finally Thor listens ignoring his heartbeat in his ears “Loki wouldn’t be in his room” Steve spits “we gotta check the perimeter, ask Valkyrie to check around Asg-“
“No, Loki wants us to trust him and if that’s true then he’ll be in his room” Tony emphasizes the last part walking out past everyone to the elevator “FRIDAY check for Loki on the cameras, get back to me as soon as you find him” He doesnt look at anyone as the elevator doors close “Yes boss” FRIDAY says automatically.
