…It's nice. You're so noisy. […] Actually, it'd be better if we died together. That way, neither of us would have to suffer the pain of losing the other, right? Shut up.

RealAgeAU Drabble - Mud
Hello! I am back with the baby-AU! Lmao! @spotaus
I am excited about this one :3
First Drabble Prev Drabble Next Drabble
Lets just get right into it shall we? :3
*-------------------*
Nightmare should probably be paying attention.
But the truth is it has already been a long day and he just doesn't feel like it.
Instead he just keeps holding Cross's hand as he eats his chocolate bar.
Nightmare is actually standing on the ground today, which is nice for a chance. It is mostly because he just spend the last two hours or so sitting still for some doctors and healers. For his monthly check up.
Which is new to him! Since when does he have a monthly check up?!
Nightmare huffs as he keeps eating his candy bar. It is sweet and he likes that. much like the light rain that is around them. He also likes the rain.
Cross shoots him an apologetic look "I know Nightmare. We will go home soon."
Nightmare hums and leans against Cross's side. He wants to go home already. The town is nice but busy today. Something to do with it being near halloween Crop had explained.
Nightmare looks up and sees that Killer is also very done with the conversation, even if he still has a smile on his face. Cross is better with acting interested. Gerson is talking to them so Nightmare can understand why they are still humouring this whole thing.
Nightmare finishes his snack and looks aorund, searching for a garbage can. He easily spots one and goes to let go of the hand.
Cross tightens his hold and looks down at him anxious "NIghtmare? Are you okay?" he gives Gerson an apologetic smile.
Nightmare rolls his eye lights and shows the obvious wrapper "Going to throw it away." duh.
Cross looks around and spots the same garbage can "I mean... okay... fast..." he slowly lets go of the hand as Gerson pulls him back to the conversation. Social guidelines nad rules keeping him captured.
Nightmare grins and walks over to the garbage can. He is careful to not slip on the wet and muddy ground. He is getting close when he spots a large mud pool and frowns at it. Annoying as he already starts to feel his spine acting up.
Seems like being carried and letting his spine relax a bit mad ehim less used to the pain... or is it because he is small now? Nightmare really doesn't know...
Still go carefully makes his way around the mud, he is wearing his new favourite sweater, the one Dust got him when they first got here, and he doesn't want to risk it getting dirty. He is already unhappy wiht it getting wet.
He gets to the garbage can and throws away the wrapper. Mission accomplished. Now to go back to Cross and Killer.
He turns around and bums into someone. Nightmare quickly takes a few steps back and slips only slightly before regaining his balance. He looks up and sees two boys.
Nightmare mutters "sorry..." he glances around and sees that Killer is already side eyeing him and his situation and he feels a bit calmer. He is fine. Killer is here.
One of the two boys huffs "How dare you! You dirtied my shoe!"
Nightmare blinks and feels confused. What does he mean? Nightmare bummed into him yeah but he didn't hit his shoe right? He looks down and sees that the shoes are covered with mud.
Nightmare frowns and rubs his arm "Sorry?" he isn't sure but also does not want trouble "Maybe it can be washed off?" he isn't sure. Some stuff is still hard to remember.
The boy huffs "Well that doesnt make it better!"
The other boy laughs "You know what would make it better?"
Nightmare realises soemthing is wrong right away and looks for an escape but one of them grabs his arm and the next thing he knows gravity pulls him down right into the mud he had been avoiding.
It hurts so bad.
His eye sockets sting both with tears and the mud. he looks down at himself and is absolutely covered. The other two laugh but it is already becoming a background noise.
His sweater is dirty...
He had tried to be careful with it and... and...
Two arms grab him and he is suddenly held close in a hug. "nightmare?! Are you okay? Is your spine okay? Are you hurt?" Cross speaks gently as he carefully removes some of the mud from Nightmare's face.
Nightmare can't explain. it is already hard to keep in the tears and now he is also ruining Cross's clothes and his body hurts and-
He sobs. He can't keep it in. He ruined his sweater. he ruined Cross's stuff. everything hurts. it is cold. he wants to go home.
Cross just pulls him closer and rubs his shoulders gently "Oh it is okay. Don't worry okay? We will get home and get all cleaned up and we will check your injuries."
Cross's voice helps him focus. Helps him breath and get passed the sobs and tears. his face is still all wet and muddy and he is dirty and his sweater. it had been a gift! He should know better than think he is allowed to have nice things.
Someone screeches "What do you think you are doing to my dareling boys?!"
Nightmare flinches and pushes closer to Cross. he dares to glance up and sees Killer growling and glaring at the two boys. He is holding one arm of one of the boys, the one Ngihtmare run into, behind his back and Nightmare knows that angle is painful.
Killer glances at the lady before looking back at the boy near tears "Teaching your child manners about how he shouldn't bully or harm a young child." Killer's voice is compeltely calm. Giving nothing away. Nightmare knows it means he is beyond furious.
The lady glares "It are just boys! Boys will be boys!" she huffs "What did they even do?" she notices him and huffs again "It is just mud! It is harmless!"
Killer looks at her before grinning. He lets go of the child and steps back. He moves quickly and Nightmare isn't even sure how he does it but next thing there is a wave of mud which covers all three.
Killer crosses his arms and waits.
The lady screeches again "How dare you?! This is real fur!"
Killer raies a brow "What? I thought you just told me. It. Is. Just. Mud." he stares her down "All you will have to do? Clean it. Which is much easier for you. As you have one of those handie bodies to keep it out of your system. Unlike wiht us skeletons that can cause quite a bit of different injuries. All caused by dirt getting stuck in joints. You know, like mud. And between joints, that this babybones has."
The lady shakes slightly as she looks around before looking back at Killer.
Killer stares at her "I will make this clear. YOu are going to walk away with those two brats of yours. You are not going to cause us anymore issues. understood?"
The lady nods and grabs her two boys and leaves.
Killer huffs before looking back at him. cold and emotionless look gone as he looks at him "tiny boss?"
Nightmare knows he is still crying as he pulls on his sweater a tiny bit. it sticks to his body, it rubs and hurts everything... but his sweater. He looks at Killer and isnt sure how to explain "my sweater..." he knows he is still crying "Dusty got this for me...." it was so expensive and special and Nightmare tried to be careful with it but he wanted the warm hug of the sweater at his appointment because it was Dust's relax day but now it is dirty and ruined and and and.
He can't explain adn just sobs.
Cross seems to understand as he pulls him closer "oh baby it is okay. We are going home. get you all cleaned up and clean up your sweater too. You will be wearing it again before you know it!"
Nightmare just sobs again.
Cross nuzzles him gently and that makes him feel a bit better.
"Hey tiny boss! Look!"
Nightmar eblinks and looks over at Killer. Killer sees him look and he grins widely. Before kicking his own feet out from under him and faceplanting right into the mud that Nightmare fell into.
Cross gasps "Killer!"
Killer pulls his face out and grins widely. The mud and tears mix and it is messy and he is covered in mud but it falls in almost slowmotion and-
Nightmare can't stop the giggle leaving him.
Killer grins and gets up. Each step makes a weird slurp and slosh. Nightmare snorts and laughs more.
Killer gets to them and grins at him.
Cross looks amused himself "You are a mess." he still nuzzles nightmare.
Killer grins and winks at Nightmare "Just means tiny boss and I will both need a bath." He then stands straight and shows his outfit "And look! More clothes that need washing! We will just wash our stuff together!"
Nightmare giggles and nods before starting to reach for Killer. He still pulls his hand back again. It feels... needy...
Killer grins as he sloshes over and nuzzles his face all over.
Cross sighs "Killer you are getting your goop all over him."
Killer grins at Cross "It is fine crossy! When we get home it is bathtime anyway!"
Nightmare feels himself relax a bit more as Killer rubs the tears away and Nightmare leans back against Cross. They are going home and wash up together.
He really hopes the sweater will turn out to be okay but the others probably know how to wash it out carefully.

adding onto my last rant from a while ago a little bit, it is fascinating how many people in this fandom completely miss the point of tsumugis character and misconstrue what hes actually about which, ironically, is just what eichi did. and its done in such a similar fashion too, such as making assumptions about his motives, his family relationship, and missing the point in why he chooses to look the way he does. and, time and time again, eichi has been proven to be WRONG about tsumugi. he misunderstood him deeply, and now its eichi whos stuck mourning the past while tsumugi has long since moved on, not the other way around, as tsumugi is on the path of getting his happy ending. and i dont get why people keep trying to take this positivity from him
Tumblr media
(s. element epilogue 2)
#sorry for harping on this stuff alot it just genuinely sucks seeing a character you love be so widely misunderstood#especially when if you really think about it#tsumugi is about as blunt and honest as they come#you dont always need to read deeper into a character. you dont always need to psychoanalyze every part of them#you dont need to reason everything#sometimes people just Are Some Kind Of Way#and eichi failed to understand that and made the wrong assumption about tsumugi#and i feel like this fandom keeps doing the same thing#because he can do and say unconventional things#and when he makes jokes he sounds super alarming or like an utter freak#its frustrating when people continuously doubt tsumugis words when he speaks so earnestly about his life#hes honest to a fault. he has no reason to lie#you can argue that “ohhh tsumugi just doesnt realize how fucked up he is!” and like Yea sure theres an element of that#but ive always read the point of his character to be him overcoming these hardships#because he cares so fucking deeply about every single person around him#and he never assumes malice. because he is such a genuinely kind hearted guy#and what makes tsumugi so interesting is that he can kind of SUCK at getting that across#because no matter what people never understand his actions or intents because of how weirdly he acts#and neither does this fandom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#natsume and tsumugi are built on being opposites. if natsume is a known liar surely we can put two and two together?#theres alot more that can be said on this topic and ive been meaning to for a while but honestly i just dont have the energy or brainpower#also i dont want this to read like im yucking anyones yum. its just frustrating as someone who is very mentally ill about these characters#he has clearly endured traumas too like im not ignoring that. its super obvious. but his character is about love and growth#you can go through literal HELL and be on the brink of SUICIDE and still end up a happy loving and forgiving person#and i think thats what his character is about#nat rambles#nats enst posting

i have to go to bed very soon so instead i'm lying here being overcome by clintasha emotions
#i've spent today rereading bucky barnes gets his groove back and the clintasha chapter never fucking fails to send me into a tailspin#the shared history. their shared history. god#i love CNL and CNL is one of my top ships of all time#but man if clintasha by itself without anyone else and especially without any kids doesn't mean something so much to me#i will never be a normal person and neither will you and by fucking god we will warp each other beyond recognition to be abnormal together#we'll spend so long speaking in code that it becomes the only way we speak#i don't know what other people mean by trust but for me it's what you do#sb and l rambles#sb and l reads fic#mcu#mcu ideas#clintasha#there's a fic out there about nat time-travelling back after endgame and fixing everything#she saves all the other girls in the red room. she gets bucky out. she stops loki and thanos and saves the world#and it is good. and everyone is happy. and she gets a romance with maria hill#what does she give up for all of this good? there is so much good. and all she loses in this new timeline is her relationship w clint#i don't even think the author ships clintasha. but man if that doesn't sum them up#natasha can fix everything and can save herself and have sisters and be the hero she's never let herself dream about being#and all it costs is the absolute bone-deep fucked up secret language that is her relationship with clint barton#all it costs is her ability to be that close to another person. to only have one couch she allows herself to pass out on#''telling clint doesn't count. that's like talking to my right elbow'' indeed

help, in the course of putting Ice through hell and back I accidentally started caring about Bradley; I will get this guy to realise his mistakes and come back a better person I swear 😤😤😤
She hasn’t gotten it yet. There’s still a furrow between her eyebrows as she tries to work out what he’s saying. “He knew Maverick, then?”
“Yeah,” Rooster says, looking at the photos. There are only two that actually have Ice in them; one where he’s wearing his aviators and has a volleyball under one arm, Slider next to him with an arm slung around his shoulders. Both of them look smug as hell, sunburnt, triumphant, and young. The other is Rooster’s mom and Ice, sitting in nice clothes at a nice looking restaurant somewhere – Rooster doesn’t recognise the occasion. They’re both very young.
There aren’t any pictures of Ice and Mav together. Rooster’s heart aches, a little bit.
The pictures are too old for Phoenix to have seen them and immediately connected them to their Fleet Commander, even though everyone sees his official portrait pretty regularly. Here, in this house, Ice was just a man. His head throbs, and he blames the alcohol. Shouldn’t have gone so hard last night.
“Uh, can you check out the back?” Rooster asks. “I’ll check upstairs to see if anyone’s home.”
“Alright,” Phoenix says. “But if I run into someone who asks me what the hell I’m doing in the house, I’m throwing you under the bus.”
“That’s fine,” Rooster says. “That’s fine. Yell if you find anything.”
He climbs the stairs unsteadily. All three bedroom doors are open, and he peers inside the spare first. The bed is made up, and empty. It’s been pushed to the side since Rooster last saw this room, and there’s a new huge desk taking up most of the space now, with files and paperwork neatly organised, and space for a laptop empty in front of a huge plush chair. No sign of anyone being there. The master room is next, and Rooster’s feet feel like they’ve been filled with lead as he walks towards it. Ice is probably inside, if he’s in the house. But if he’s in the house, why didn’t he answer the door?
Rooster thinks of him huddled in bed, unwilling to get out, just like Rooster had been unwilling to get out and face the day this morning. It makes something twist inside him; Ice sits in his mind as a pillar of steadfastness and practicality. He can’t fall apart. He’s the bedrock that everyone in his family always fell back on, when they were falling apart. Well, Rooster is in pieces now, and he needs someone to talk to – someone who will understand.
The bed is empty.
He stares at it for too long. It’s made Navy neat, corners tucked in perfectly. There’s no mess in the room. It actually looks pretty much like what Rooster remembers it to be. Same layout. Same mess on Mav’s bedside table. Neat folders piled on Ice’s side. He doesn’t touch anything, but he steps inside.
Here, finally, are the pictures that are missing from the entranceway. Old photos of Ice and Mav sitting next to each other on the lounge in the house Rooster grew up in, in front of their Christmas tree while a young Rooster tears into Christmas presents at their feet. His mom had always insisted that they come over Christmas morning, so they could spend time together as a family. He’d never appreciated that as a kid; had always taken it for granted. It’d only been after his mom had died that he’d realised how much warmth and life those mornings had brought out in the adults in his life, and how much he’d really loved them. Mav had insisted on a tree, the year she’d died, and Ice had tried his hand at all the food that she used to make for them, even though he didn’t really celebrate Christmas.
There are others, too, though they all look like they were taken in the 90s. None are from after his mom died. He stares at one where they’re sprawled out on beach chairs, aviators on, grinning at the camera. Ice’s foot is pressed against Mav’s thigh; beside that, they’re not touching. If you didn’t know they were together – if this photo wasn’t literally in their bedroom – there would be nothing about it to suggest that they were more than friends.
He peeks into the ensuite, dread pooling in his stomach for some reason he can’t name, but finds nothing there either. Everything is tidy and clean. The wardrobe has suits and uniforms hung up, and Mav’s preferred white shirts and jeans piled up on top of each other. Rooster vaguely wonders what Ice wears these days when he’s not in uniform.
Feeling like he’s intruding now that he’s sure Ice isn’t here, he leaves the master bedroom to head to the last bedroom upstairs. The door is open, and his heart is in his throat as he slowly peers inside.
It’s not how he left it. There are two dusty cardboard boxes on top of the storage box at the foot of his bed where he kept all his shoes. Ice was always tripping over them when he came in here, and would tell Rooster to clean up after himself. He nudges one flap of the cardboard box open to find some of his high school baseball trophies inside. He looks over to where he’d put them as a kid, on top of his desk – the desk is bare besides two more cardboard boxes, also dusty, also looking like they haven’t been touched in years. The rest of the room looks mostly untouched, like no one who lived here could bear to enter it.
He escapes his old bedroom and goes down the stairs as fast as he can without tripping. His head doesn’t thank him, but his heart can’t take one more moment faced with what he’d given up. He heads into the backyard to find Phoenix chatting with someone over the back fence. It’s an older man, with tree trimmers in one hand, clearly standing on a ladder. There’s some branches and leaves on this side of the fence.
“Hey, Rooster, you find anything?” Phoenix asks when he comes within yelling range. He shakes his head.
“Are you looking for Tom?” the man asks. “I was asking this young woman how she knows him, but she won’t give me an answer.”
“I don’t know any Tom,” Phoenix says, looking at Rooster. “I thought this was Mav’s house?”
“Yes, we’re looking for Tom,” Rooster says, unable to answer Phoenix’s question with their audience. “Have you seen him?”
“We don’t chat very often,” the man says. “He’s always busy with that army work.” Both Rooster and Phoenix cringe, but don’t correct him. “My name’s Dave; and who are you?”
“Bradley,” Rooster says. Dave reaches down and Rooster awkwardly reaches up to shake his hand. “So have you seen Tom?” It’s weird to call Ice his actual name, but that’s clearly who this neighbour knows him as.
“No,” Dave admits. “It’s usually pretty easy to know when he’s in – I can see the upstairs study, and boy does he work nights! But not always, and I know he travels often. My mother always told me to join the army, then I’d see the world–”
“I saw him yesterday,” Rooster interrupts, not interested in hearing the guy’s life story. “You haven’t seen him since then?”
“No,” Dave says. “Why?”
Rooster chews on his lip. Phoenix is still looking at him like he’s a puzzle she has to solve.
“Did you know Captain Mitchell?” she asks Dave. “Uh, that is, Peter Mitchell?”
“No,” Dave says, frowning at her. “Why would I?”
“It’s his house,” she says, looking at Rooster again. “Right, Rooster?”
“Yeah, on the title,” Rooster admits. “But I don’t think he spent a lot of time here.”
“Do you mean that whippersnapper on the motorbikes?” Dave asks, shaking his head. “Always roaring about the streets when he came in. Usually late at night, too.”
Whippersnapper, Phoenix mouths at him. Rooster feels his lips twitch, threatening to bend upwards.
“Yeah, him,” Rooster says.
“Oh, I think we talked once or twice,” Dave says. “He owns the place, you say? Never would have guessed!”
“Look, can you keep an eye out for Tom?” Rooster asks. The unease that he’d felt upon standing on the porch of the house is nothing compared to his growing nausea. His gut is telling him something is wrong. If Ice isn’t here, then where is he?

If I was part of the mcu (Pt. 18)
Melina: so are you going to tell us about your daughter?
Natasha: what- she is not my daughter.
Yelena: you act like she is.
Natasha: I might take a kind of guardian-like roll in her life-
Melina: are you going to adopt her?
Natasha: she’s not my daughter
also Natasha:
Natasha: no, don’t touch that
Natasha: you’re grounded, get over here.
Natasha: I’m on a mission, be good, don’t open the door for anyone, tell Jarvis if you need anything.
Natasha, smiling a little while I’m showing her a cool feather I found on the ground: That is a good feather
Natasha: Be good for Clint, you can stay with him while I’m gone this time.
Back in current time:
Me, coming over: Nat, Nat, I didn’t find that feather you said you saw to get me out of the room so you could have a conversation but I did find this handful of cool rocks and a stick shaped like a pistol:)
Yelena, mouthing to Natasha: If you don’t adopt her, I will.

tbh maybe this is a hot take but i really dont get why people insist on having one person in natsumugi be this Super Toxic one and the other a victim. the easiest conclusion to draw is natsume being the bad guy and tsumugi the victim due to natsume getting physical and berating him at times but far too commonly do i see people insist that its the other way around and that tsumugi is actually the super toxic one and natsume just lets tsumugi emotionally manipulate him and thats ?? so weird to me ??? both of these are so weird to me ???
i can ofc see where theyre coming from. both natsume and tsumugi have plenty of issues going on in their heads. i feel like natsumes situation is more commonly understood as him simply just being difficult though and not being the best at managing his emotions, and with tsumugi i get it because he doesnt really have much of a moral compass. he doesnt quite understand peoples feelings and it results in him doing pretty fucked up things at times, but to then frame him as someone who would be abusive?? that doesnt sit right with me
tsumugi may not understand peoples emotions and be apathetic to the struggles people are going through, but its clear to anyone that that man has good intentions at the end of the day. at WORST he may get overbearingly controlling, but its never in a "you cant do x y z" way, its in a "i signed us up for this job opportunity because i thought it sounded nice and didnt speak it through with you beforehand and now we have to do it" way. had this been 2nd year tsumugi maybe he wouldve been far more desperate and even manipulative to an extent because he was in such a dark place, but current day tsumugi is actively trying to understand people better. hes trying to learn how to feel. in wonder game he even outright said that natsume taught him pain and everything else. his growth is clear
i cannot see tsumugi taking advantage of natsume in a genuinely destructive way with modern day ntmg. again, maybe during the earlier !-era stuff he could be more destructive, but natsume also does a relatively good job keeping tsumugi in his place during that time too, with him getting physical and all. its only in !!-era where tsumugi doesnt really mind it and can even make playful jokes about it because theyve Had this development in their relationship. theyve moved Past many of their toxic attributes, and theyve finally grown to understand one another. this is also when tsumugi can have a more "dominating" role in their relationship, since natsume has come to trust him to this extent, but tsumugi wouldnt take advantage of that. again; theyve now grown very close and understanding of one another. theyll have banters such as tsumugi wanting natsume to do something like idk. wear a dress. to which natsume will reply with kys but again. in !!-era this is banter and tsumugi wouldnt actually force natsume to do something he doesnt want to. theyre just very comfortable with each other now
i also really hate the position natsume gets put in with all of this. so often he is already hyperfeminized by the fandom for no reason whatsoever (which is especially fucked up considering how much he canonically hates being seen as a girl), and by making tsumugi this manipulative and abusive partner youre stripping natsume of even more autonomy and framing him as powerless. naively in love with a man thats hurting him. and that doesnt sit right with me either!! natsume does have a big heart and he has endured more than he probably should, but to think natsume would just take it ??? natsume has BACKBONE. if tsumugi upsets him he will either 1. get really mad at him or 2. start ignoring tsumugi alltogether. hes not just gonna put up with it. and tsumugi will notice this change in demeanor. ask if hes done something wrong. he may not understand what it was he did but he never intends on hurting natsume and would genuinely want to resolve it. tsumugi isnt stubborn in this regard, if he fucks up he wants to fix it. and natsume isnt a damsel in distress, why do you want him to be a helpless maiden so bad ??
theres alot of nuance to all of this and im obviously not gonna tackle every single element of their relationship and this is just an overview but TL;DR ntmg are both awful and have many faults and their relationship has gotten incredibly unhealthy at times but the point is theyre growing PAST that. maybe sometimes these toxic traits of theirs will resurface, but that does not make one the abuser and the other the victim. theyre just two fucked up people in love, standing as equals and learning to understand one another. stop framing one as evil
