He was a frequent attendee of the club you worked in. You were just a bartender so you didn’t interact with him much, but boy did you know about him.

You’re sure flirting is the same as breathing for him.

You always checked him out whilst working; he is gorgeous afterall. And that voice?? Oh boy...

But as mentioned earlier, he is a huge flirt and you really didn’t want to get your heart broken—which was something you knew would have happened for sure because you’d been nursing a crush on him for a long time, and it seemed to get worse every time he appeared at the club.

So it’s no surprise that when he does talk to you, you’re cold and dismissive (if he didn’t have the means to absolutely destroy your life, you would have liked to bite back at him, but alas).

He’s more intrigued by the fact that you hate him when he’s never even talked to you before.

In the beginning he tried his usual charms to get you to crack, but after realizing you weren’t gonna fall for his tricks, he started trying to get a rise out of you.

You both hated each other.

Or that's what it seemed like on the outside.

Every interaction made you like him more somehow.

And somewhere in the middle his feelings towards you changed, and he started wanting you to smile at him like you smile at the other customers.

This back and forth kept up for a good while.

The day your relationship changed was when you were walking home at night after a shift.

Someone had been following you for a couple blocks, you felt the fear prickle your skin as you tried to speed up your pace, but suddenly you were pushed into an alley and pinned against the wall.

Your assailants’ musty breaths hit your face and it made you feel that much more panicked, claustrophobic, and scared; there were two of them you realized through the haze of adrenaline. They wanted you to hand over any valuables on you. You attempted to fight back but one of them backhanded you and the other kneed you in the stomach.

You would have fought more if it wasn’t for the knife one of them pushed against your neck.

You were terrified—beyond terrified. You really believed your life was about to end. Especially when the knife broke skin.

But the universe was looking down at you in mercy, ‘cause ouR BOY RICHARD CAME TO YOUR RESCUE YES BITCH CLICHÉSSS!!!

To date you still don’t fully know what happened, just that one moment you were pinned against a cold brick wall fearing for your life, and the next you were crouched down in Richard’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably, while he softly whispered in your ear “you're okay,” “I’m here,” and that he’s “got you.”

You vaguely remember him getting you up, sitting you in his car, and asking for your address.

He took you home that night and walked you to your door.

You insisted on making him a drink as a thank you.

What was supposed to be just one drink, turned into four and you two sat on your couch until the early hours of the morning, talking.

You both ended up falling asleep on the couch side by side, leaning against each other which made your necks hurt like a bitch when you woke up.

In the morning, he asked you to have breakfast with him. If it had been anytime earlier, you would have said no, but after the night you had, you realized that you didn't want to be cold to him anymore and that if he breaks your heart, then so be it, but you were going to take that leap anyway.

And oh boy, are you grateful for saying yes :)

Dates with him are always fun. They range anywhere from chill to doing illegal things.

He once takes you to the nearest woods and teaches you everything about guns as a date, like a weekend in a comfy cabin with empty beer bottles to shoot, the whole thing...

He’s HUGE on PDA, he loves being with you and having you in his life, so it only seems natural to him to show you off. Because you’re amazing and wonderful and beautiful and you could be with anyone but you’re with him and that fact makes his heart skip a beat.

He’s so in love with you.

It was several months into your relationship when Richard, whilst joking around, said that it felt like he knew two different people when it came to you: how you were so cold to him when he first met you versus the day you invited him inside for a drink.

You never told him how you truly felt about him, especially what your thoughts were in the beginning towards him, so you decide to open up to him finally.

And you best believe this man grabbed you and kissed you senseless before confessing that he loves you and he’d never ever break your heart.

He adores telling you he loves you and hearing it back. After he confesses to you, he says it almost non-stop the whole day.

Get a big goofy smile every time you tell him you love him. 

When it comes to showing his affection, he zeros in on your neck, he’s a neck guy.

Cups your neck all the time, especially when he pulls you in or goes in for a kiss. Rubs his thumb up and down your neck when you two are relaxing together or to turn you on, this bitch somehow conditioned you to have a neck thing just like him.

Rubs his stubble or nose against your neck to make you laugh.

Will hug you from the back and place a kiss on your neck or under your jaw, this is either done as a greeting, to show you some love, or as him initiating sex—it’s all in the way he’ll place the kiss.

This fucker l o v e s teasing you in public, he’s so into public sex/sex in places where being caught is a high risk.

Dom in the streets, sub in the sheets BIG TIME! Like Mellish, he’s into being a top and a bottom, but he’s really into letting you have control.

That’s because he walks around as if nothing can touch him, so letting his guard down around you is almost therapeutic for him, and not just in a sexual way—in general.

I mean he’s still cocky as fuck, but he likes that he doesn’t have to keep up a tough guy persona around you.

Obviously he’d want a fuck ton of kids, whether biological or adopted or a mix of both. He’s always been excited to be a dad and he thinks you’d make the best parent.

If you don’t want kids, he’d first try to talk you into it, but once he realizes you don’t want them, oh boy do you guys adopt dogs.

So many dogs (even if you have kids); he likes the mean looking dogs, the ones people usually think are horrible and mistreat (honestly fuck people like that!!).

You take your meanest looking baby dog for walks, people already know not to mess with you as you’re Richard Reiben’s partner, but he still insists you take the gentle giant with you.

Since he loves PDA, he is extremely protective of you. Of course he makes you carry a knife and a gun on you at all times and teaches you how to defend yourself.

Teaches you how to scope out an area when you enter it to make a point of all the exits and the fastest ways to get out.

You worry about him a lot. He’s super reckless, along with Carparzo, those two combined with Mellish are Miller’s living breathing nightmares poor Dad™️.

Low key has Mr. Blond vibes from Reservoir Dogs when he’s doing his ~job~.

He’s 100% a hothead, in the beginning any fight you have will be big because he can be a bit dramatic, but over time he calms down and talks through the issue.

As scary as he can be to others, he’s just as sweet and gentle with you. He’s honestly “secretly” a softie; try as he might he can’t hide that from you or his family.

I feel like he has a big sweet tooth, always buying cookies, cakes, pastries, etc., from the local bakeries and always has sugary food stocked up in the apartment (when you lived separately, you’d find your kitchen packed with desserts, too).

Ice cream is a staple for when you go out, be it dates or even a walk in the park. His mom told you how once as a kid, he dropped his ice cream cone and cried for an hour and of course you use this info as ammunition.

You call him Richie, Dick, Richard, or even Reiben depending on your mood/the situation.

And you’re the only one allowed to call him Richie because he absolutely adores you and would do anything for you.

No matter how old you two get, he’ll always tease you and flirt without shame.

John Miller: Finds it a bit ridiculous, doesn't really get why you would be get jealous when you know that you're the only one he'll ever truly love. But understands in some way, jealousy is a humanly emotions and it's okay to feel it.

Mike Horvath: laughs about it, he can't take you serious if you get jealous about that but he finds it cute. Kisses you in front of the person to make a statement that he's gladly taken.

Daniel Jackson: He finds it amusing that his person can get so territorial over him. Kisses you on the cheek and says "sorry, i'm taken" to show the other person that.. well, he is taken and then you two walk away. definitely teases you a bit after.

Richard Reiben: thinks "aww cute" and smirks to himself. Shrugs the person that touches him of and pulls you in his lap to make out with you (yes in front of the person lol) to ease your jealousy and show literally everyone that he is your, and your only.

Irwin Wade: he gets upset that you're upset. He pouts his lip in your direction when he sees you looking at him bitterly. Tries as nicely as he can to get away from the person to go to you.

Stanley Mellish: Same as Jackson, finds it extremely amusing. Probably would try to get you more jealous to see what you would do. Of course he wouldn't go over board it and if you bring up that you actually hates when he does that, he won't ever do it again.

Timothy Upham: Gets lowkey scared, hates to see you and others upset but he has to priorities your emotions. So, he slips away from the persons touch and half runs to you apologizing even though it's not really his fault.

Adrian Caparzo: tells the person right away that he's taken and that his partner (you, obviously) doesn't appreciate someone touching what's theirs. He teases you about it but he also tells you that he finds your jealousy kinda sexy.

jackson damn near loses it. he isn't focused or calculated like when carparzo got downed, he's frantically crawling over to your side as best as he can, muttering curses and mingled prayers while pressure is applied to your wounds.

"c'mon [l/n], stick with us here," jackson's chest is tight, fear clawing it's way up his throat from inside. the fear is worsened when your eyes begin to roll back.

the medics find a grisly sight, jackson keeled over your barely breathing body, incoherent please to god and anyone who'll listen sprinkled throughout horrible bouts of sobs that wrack his body. they take you away on a stretcher, jackson's rosary hanging loosely around your neck. you'll need it more than he will.

"damn hotshot, that was a close one," reiben makes light of situations that are scarily serious. it's what he's always done, and god willing, always will.

"hotshot?"

you don't answer. reiben throws a glance your way, only to find you slumped over, hands pressed absently over a spreading patch of terrible red.

there's no joke to be made. reiben checks the area for anyone who can help, but amidst the noise and smoke, it's hard to even hear himself think. not that any of his present thoughts are coherent. reiben haphazardly dives your way, not a single shit given about his current position. he awkwardly attempts to cover your body from fire with his own, shoving his canteen in your direction and giving the best directions he can.

"you better keep your damn eyes open. i'll find a medic around here somewhere. just hold on."

irwin wade

medics are notoriously easy targets and wade hates it. as much as you've told him to quit worrying about you, he can't. that's what it means to care about people, right? at least half of care is spent on worry. maybe two thirds of it, in wade's case.

this time, wade's worry saved your life. the field was still smoky, violent tension occasionally punctured by a smattering of screams and abrupt gunfire.

that's how he'd been able to find you, fussing over a clearly dying soldier who was doing his damnedest to refuse medical assistance. wade overheard bits and pieces of dialogue, at least the part where the soldier had complained that if he was gonna be saved, he was gonna try to do it himself.

adrenaline and the threat of death do wonders for a person's audacity.

wade began to make his way to you, watching you pull the man to his feet and lob his arm over your shoulders, pulling him out of the blood and muck that desecrated the place. everything was going well until the soldier fell, along with his very loaded gun. it felt like the world was going in slow motion when the gun fired, sending you to the ground.

wade hauled ass through weeds and wet ground that intended to swallow him whole, all in an attempt to reach you as fast as possible. irwin's hands had an undeniable shake, unwrapping various supplies and cursing and reassuring you in the same breath. once you tried to reach for a bandage, wade nearly slapped your hand away. you were too precious to him to lose, and fixing this himself was the only way to assuage the guilt brewing already.

I know he’s an ass but an attractive ass and that seems to be just my type so we will look over flaws.

Film analysis 1

Saving Private Ryan

Director: Steven Spielberg

Starring: Tom Hanks, Matt Damon

Release Date: July 24, 1998

Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan is a Drama & War film which has Captain John Miller taking his men behind enemy lines to find Private James Ryan, whose three brothers have been killed in combat. Surrounded by the brutal realties of war, while searching for Ryan, each man embarks upon a personal journey and discovers their own strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honor, decency and courage. As this is a war film it has elements of high octane combat so it naturally comes under the classification of Action & Adventure.

The film successfully captures the horror and desperation of war. The entire film has this faded & muted grey colour pallet which perfectly represents the tone of the film which is bleakness & uncertainty. Majority of the war films often romanticise the aspect of war & makes it sound more like a pleasant roller coaster ride & less as a horrifying catastrophe of loss & bloodshed, this film does the opposite & by showcasing the true bloody nature of war but even after all of that at the heart of the film lies themes of courage, heroism, sacrifice & honour.

Even though the film is mostly a war film, the elements of drama are still prevalent. While soldiers converse emotionally, the camera does mostly medium close-ups or close-ups, there is a lot of information given through emotions, the dialogues are real & their reaction to being put in a real-life situation (a war zone) is well pretty similar to the conventions of drama. There are a lot of long takes which often makes the viewer feel like they're witnessing it in person, it makes things more personal.

The music played during these scenes are emotional, slow & often orchestral, these are tropes of drama music. Important character moments & arcs are accompanied by emotional music.

The film also sets up arcs for each character, every person must overcome a flaw & do what is needed to earn what they want.

He does not wear his passions and opinions on his sleeves as his fellow soldiers do. In fact, he intentionally reveals little about himself. 

Capt. Miller does not discourage the questions that surround the mission. But he cannot join in the complaining. He allows the spirited young men to voice their concerns. Perhaps he realizes the futility of his position. How can one convince another to go to risk for another person that he does not even know? He uses humor and directed discussion between his men to further the sense of purpose about their mission. Instead of authoritative lectures about duty or simple orders to "shut up," Miller leads his men in a mature fashion.

His role could be compared to that of a teacher which is ironic as pre war he was a teacher. He treats his men as his students.

Miller rarely opens up but close to the end of the film, he opens up out that he is a school teacher and is married. Miller reveals a private side of him previously kept secret. He admits that he does not know the meaning of the war or the worthiness of Private Ryan. (He may not even be alive.) Miller's soliloquy closes with an offer to officially release Reiben from the mission. Reiben, clearly moved by the candid sincerity of Miller, decides to stay with the mission.

This was one of his arcs, opening up & this changed Reiben's motives. This is important, a character's arc should impact himself or others in the film

Key Themes 

As this is a war film, there are plenty of themes of violence, destruction, blood, gore, death & loss. The reality of film portrays the true perils of war during WWII. The movie begins with the invasion of Normandy which is shown quite accurately, the scene features dismemberment, heads exploding, characters dying around & the use of WW2 weapon, it’s all pretty gruesome & why don’t you have a look for yourself.  Besides the theme of violence & desperation, there are also themes of hope, heroism & honor. The film truly never forgets the heart of what lied in the soldiers back in WW2 which is courage & sacrifice.  The costume, props & the make-up of the film is pretty standard for a war film, army uniforms, WW2 era weapons & the setting is made pretty believable set design. There is a lot of work that went into the film, take the opening scene of the film for example, the sheer amount of people, props & make that was used to make this very scene believable is beyond me. It is said that The D-Day landing is known as one of the most horrific battles in history & this scene certainly does it justice. The battle cries of the soldiers, the agony shown clearly & the excessive use of morphine to kill the pain is accurate & quite frankly horrific to think about, imagine injecting this drug to temporarily rid you of the pain of losing your entire arm just so you could fight for a few more moments is just traumatizing to think about. But like I stated earlier, there is more to this film than just violence, take the opening scene of the film for example, where Private Ryan walks up to the grave of Captain Miller or maybe the scene where Captain Miller finally opens up about his past, it’s emotional & these few moments of silence in this heavily chaotic film feels poetic & beautiful. 

But really throughout the film, there is one prevalent theme & that is a sacrifice, millions of soldiers gave up their lives to defend their countries in the original war. They left behind their families, friends, jobs & the comfort of their homes to defend the people of their lands. In Saving Private Ryan, these soldiers keep pushing ahead even if the status of Private Ryan is doubtful, they don’t know where he is or even if he’s alive but they keep at it & give up their lives so that Ryan could return to his mother as the only surviving son. 

Shots, color & movement. 

The movie used Aaton 35-III, Panavision Super Speed MKII and Ultra Speed MKII Lenses, this technology is relatively recent, the format was the commonly used super 35mm.  Like I mentioned earlier, the film’s color scheme during the past was mostly desaturated with a hint of blue in it’s shadows. This signified the bleak nature of war as everything around lost its colors, it’s happiness & all that was left were the torments of war. The film’s excessive use of blood & wartime weapons further add to the authenticity & the use of handheld shots & long takes really makes you feel as if you are in the action, letting you absorb or take the moment in. The film’s use of medium close-ups of characters when they’re speaking has more emphasis on their emotions which is mostly pain, sorrow, confusion, anger & desperation with a few moments of laughter & happiness. These close-ups make you feel intimate but are further enough  The Film use of props added to the fantastic set design, the use of make up for showing gore, bullets, grenades, MG15, MP40’s, Tommy Guns, 1911’s, M1 Grands, Tanks & Jets added to the authenticity of the film, making the setting more believable. 

Perhaps the most interesting part of the film was it’s the use of lighting, the majority of the film used low key lighting. The key lighting looks dark and intensifies the shadows.  The heavy contrast of bright light lays on the faces of the soldiers.  This gives the movie a look that is more dark and natural and relates to the theme.  Spielberg says, “Early on we both knew that we did not want this to be a Technicolor extravaganza about World War II, but more like color newsreel footage from the 1940s, which is very desaturated and low-tech The lighting made the movie more realistic as if you were a part of the war.  Not only realistic but depicted the melancholy mood in every scene, regardless of what was going on.  In the scene, “Duty” jokes are being thrown around as the crew marches toward their mission.  Throughout the scene, the conversation is more cheerful, but the lighting continues to give the approach of a gloomy story.  The film also has this very documentary look to it which makes it look like we’re watching an old WW2 tape.  The cinematography also follows plenty of composition rules. The film has good establishing shots. Majority of the shots are long taken with a few jumpcuts & shot reverse shots, other than that there aren’t many editing techniques used. The sound, however, is masterful. Audiences typically forgive bad video quality but never tolerate bad audio, movies spend millions of dollars on the sound so that they could make the movie more believable. Thankfully the film used the art of foley to capture the sound of the film, battle cries, gunfire, sound of grenades, tanks, airplanes. The sound has been mixed well with dialogue & the music which is composed by the legendary John Williams, the person behind the star wars soundtrack. Throughout the film, instruments such as brass, string, and horns were used to evoke a variety of emotions and tones. The soundtrack gets intense during battle sequences & slow & emotional during the more quieter moments. 

In conclusion Saving Private Ryan is a war film showcasing the brutal realities of war, representing the variety of soldiers who gave their lives in the war & teaching the meaning of sacrifice

Wade and Jackson Reader Insert One-Shot

Anon: can you do an imagine where the reader is Jacksons and Wades best friend and she goes along with Miller and the boys to retrieve James Ryan as a machine gunner and she witnesses Wade getting shot and the bell tower getting blown up by the tank? I know it's extremely sad, maybe Ryan ends up becoming her new friend? sorry if it's too much to ask! thank you 🌹 

You feel the wind blowing against your skin, the humdity of it weighing you down. The salt from the ocean has painted your lips like your favorite makeup. Although it’s not allowed, you undo your hair to let it dry. The olive green of your uniform has darkened to match the forest behind you.

Not much makes sense right now. The dried blood covering your left hand looks fake to you. You try to peal off some of the crusting blood, but underneath, you discover your skin is stained a light red. You ignore the blood and focus instead on your gun, which is blocked up with wet sand. You begin taking apart your weapon when you feel a hand rest on you shoulder.

“Jackson’s upset. He wanted me to check on you,” Wade says softly. You sigh, nodding your head and patting the cold rock you’re sitting on. He sits down next to you and grabs the gun that’s laying in your lap. You stare at him, wondering if you hold the same empty look that he sports.

After a few seconds, he notices you staring and he looks into your eyes, smiling softly. He hands your gun back and wraps an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to him and kissing the top of your head.

“You won the bet,” he whispers. You blink, not understanding his questions.

“What?”

“The bet you made with Jackson,” Wade says, grinning. “We’re still alive, so you win.” With that, you feel life bubbling back into you. You smile back at him and turn around to see your tall blond friend talking to Caparzo.

“Jackson,” you shout, startling him out his conversation, “get your scrawny Southern ass over here and give me my twenty bucks.”

“If we make it to the end of the war I’ll give you a hundred plus a date with me,” he shouts back, making Wade laugh.

“Cut out the date and it’s a deal,” you holler, trying to figure out what exactly you’re going to do with your hundred dollars.

Trying to find this kid was hard enough, but the fact that the Captain had lost his mind and decided to take out a machine gun position pushed you to the max. Now, you’re holding your best friends dying body, trying to keep the blood from pouring out.

You look up at your other best friend, Jackson, and as soon as you see his face, the tears fall. You cry for the first time since you’ve met. The life fades from Wade’s eyes and you break down completely. You don’t understand, nor do you want to. It’s all too painful.

You don’t remember much, but somehow you ended up sitting by a tree. Jackson sits next to you, oddly silent. His fingers trace along a bullet shell. You rest your head on his shoulder, trying to think of something to say to him, anything.

“I lost the bet,” you say, barely above a whisper.

Private Ryan seems like a good kid. He follows you around like a damn puppy, which has caused you to be teased by Jackson mercilessly.

Miller's squad: you becoming more trusting to sleep around them

John Miller: he gets why, he's kind of the same in a way, but he's also but anxious that you're not getting enough sleep to be able to stay awake or be as conscious of your surrounding as you actually should. When you start being more trusting about sleeping around them he calms down a bit.

Mike Horvath: he's concerned about it affecting both your physical and mental help, he may take you to the side and ask why and when you tell him why he gets it, he won't pressure you into being comfortable/trusting being around him or the others.

Daniel Jackson: wouldn't necessarily notice at first (considering he falls asleep just by laying down and closing his eyes), when he hears Reiben and Mellish talk about you almost never sleeping he gets concerned for you. He doesn't say anything about it to anyone but he's eyeing you from a distance hoping that your well or at least okay. When you start being more trusting he let's out a relived mental sigh.

Richard Reiben: Again, talks and jokes with Meillish about it but internally he's probably as concerned as Wade if not more. He wouldn't admit it though. Ever since you joined the squad he has being eyeing you every time at a resting place (like at the church etc). He really wants to ask why but he's afraid he'll say anything wrong so just post points it until you unintentionally beings to trust the squad more and even when you start sleeping for longer and closer to them he is still secretly concerned.

Irwin Wade: does not care if you trust them or especially him, he just want you to sleep. He is a bit pressuring about it but if you REALLY feel THAT uncomfortable sleeping around people you don't trust he'll back off.. a bit. When you finally starts slowly sleeping closer and closer to the squad he feels relived and tells you that he's grateful that you are starting to open up towards them or at least him.

Stanley Mellish: this guy just doesn't get it, "why don't you trust us/me?", "Aren't you tired?" are frequently asked questions. They may sound harsh considering he's kind of a harsh person but he really means them in a caring way. When you become more trusting he'll joke with you like "oh look who finally opened up".

Timothy Upham: asks you in private if you're okay and you tell him that it's kinda hard to sleep you barely know and yeah, he gets it, but, why? I feel like he wouldn't ask you more about it but try to do things for you to make you feel at least more comfortable around him to make you at least comfortable to sleep for long around him. If it works he would thank you for being comfortable around him.

Adrian Caparzo: he's like "oh, okay" but not in a he doesn't care way but more in a he cares but don't want to be a "simp" in front of the others (not that it's wrong to care about others well being). Looks over at you from time to time to see if you get the rest you need, when you start sleeping for longer and closer to the squad he feels relived and thanks god and everyone else up in the sky (don't know why he does it but he does, it's a Caparzo thing).

Mike Horvath: has to think for a couple minuets and looks over at Miller for "permission" and Millers like "wtf yes go dance with her?" and so he does. Probably ends up hooking up a bit in a corner.

Dancing and playing charades with him is one of your new new year’s traditions and it’s great. Sure, the PTSD can be to powerful overbearing (damn you fireworks) and that’s fine, you’ll just cuddle closely with him in bed.

Stanley Mellish: like Wade, blasting music almost until your eardrums erupts. Mostly y’all are just trying to over power the fireworks noises by singing karaoke as loud as you can. One time you actually over powered the firework noises so loud that the neighbors complained that they couldn’t hear the fireworks and thank everyone for that.

Timothy Upham: You can’t read together like you normally do. Well…. You can but it wouldn’t be so efficient. John Miller: knows what to do, has had previous partners with menstrual cycles so basically offer you some nice food, drinks, massages or just plain comfort.

Mike Horvath: same as Miller, has had previous partners. But I feel like he may not be as so "physical contact-y" as Miller but he's good at the psychological support at least...😅

Daniel Jackson: has a bunch of relatives that has to deal with the same things so he kinda gets the hang of it. like, you know, chocolate, warm baths and emotional support.. If you have cramps (literally anywhere) he'll massage you there and he'll try to be the best boyfriend he possibly can.

Mike Horvath: Like Miller he becomes very protective, if anyone (*cough* Reiben *cough*) starts messing with you in some way he'll come running and punching. I think when he flirts he does it either out loud or quietly. No in between.

Daniel Jackson: Tbh everyone is protective but you know Jackson is kinda on a whole other level, probably would sacrifice himself for you. Anyways, He shows his interest in a sneaky kind of way. For example if you were stuck up on a high brick fence and can't come down, he would be like "need any help?" and when you say yes he'll casually grab you by the waist, put you down and whisper in your ear "your welcome, darling" nonchalanly and walk away like nothing happend but inside he would most likely panic tf out.
