For the writing requests... would you want to take a crack at writing for Arline? (You know you could basically write for any of my ocs but if you want someone specific, here you go)

Sure! It's getting late so I'm not sure how long this will end up being, but I'll give it a shot!

"Arline." Viktor called from the doorway. The girl didn't even look up. A flash of brief annoyance darted through him, and he inhaled a deeper breath as he prepared to raise his voice-

And then he stopped, exhaled that breath and all his annoyance with it, and reached to flick the light switch on the wall instead. The flickering lights drew Arline's attention to him in a heartbeat.

He didn't need to yell. He didn't need to get angry over things he knew she couldn't control. He didn't need to try and strong-arm her into overcompensating for her damaged hearing the way others had done for him and his weak leg.

He just needed to find a method that worked for the both of them. He was getting better about that.

"Viktor?"

"Wash up. It's time for dinner." he said, doing his best to speak calmly and clearly without over-enunciating the words. Arline nodded and stood up, and Viktor felt some inner tension dissolve from his limbs. Somehow, he'd expected her to argue with him.

He turned to go and felt his weak leg crumple under him- he really shouldn't have stuck it out through that last test, he'd been on his feet far too long - and just as quickly felt thin arms dart around his body and catch him before he could fall.

Arline grunted as she took his weight (even skinny was a generous description of him, but she was just a girl) and Viktor fought to get his feet under him before they both went down. Finally he managed it, and caught himself half on the doorway and half on his cane. It took him a moment to catch his breath.

"Thank you." he muttered through gritted teeth. He never enjoyed those moments of weakness, least of all in front of other people. But if his projects went as expected... eventually he wouldn't have any more of those weak moments.

Arline ducked her head for a moment, shy or embarrassed or something else. He hadn't yet gotten a feel for her yet. She was his charge, and he wanted to do well for her, but he didn't yet know how.

"Thank you for turning on the lights," she mumbled, "Instead of yelling."

"Yes, well..." he muttered in response, just as uncertain, "Yelling seemed cruel."

Something passed between them then, a moment of sameness and understanding. The first half-second was almost comforting, but then the air grew too thick with emotion to tolerate. Viktor cleared his throat and pressed on down the hall.

"Wash your hands," he said, briefly turning his head to look back at her, "With soap."

When Phaela was living in the shadowfell with no memory of how she’d gotten there, she used to have dreams about the sun.

There is no sun in the abyss. She didn’t know how she knew what it was. But it was something warm and bright and safe, and often it was accompanied by a person. The memories would fade once she awoke, leaving her with a cold, yawning ache, but while she slept, she held her husband, and she was home.
