One thing I absolutely respect about Matthew Broderick is that the man does not seem to take himself too seriously at all. After playing such an iconic role as Ferris Bueller I could easily see him becoming conceited. But no, he let the tables turn and played Principal Burr and he allowed himself to be the butt of the joke in his cameo as himself in Only Murders in the Building. That I can respect.

"At this moment of looking at Col B on the discharge of G H’s pistol he perceived a slight motion in his person, which induced the idea of his being struck. On this point he conversed with his principal on their return, who ascribed that circumstance to a small stone under his foot, & observed that the smoke of G Hs pistol obscured him for a moment in the interval of their firing."
I love the way it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone that Burr might have flinched.

Princess Luna slitted her eyes and laid her ears back as she asked in a tone too mild to be safe for any that her anger was directed to, “Chest lineament and a day off at half pay for a colt with pneumonia? Rent up twenty bits put you at a hardship? Impre Sario was that rude to you both?”
Both Foamy and Clarice nodded. “That's right, Your Highness.”
Suddenly Celestia broke out in a chuckle as she commented, “That explains why he hasn't put on any ballets except The Singing Swan, The Dance of the Sweet Peach Breezy and the Awakening of the Dragon! They are all not only Public Domain, they are widely used as recital pieces for ballet schools! Every dancer knows them!”
Luna, however, was boring in on a different issue entirely! “Foamy, I got your request and gave Impre a benefice for two weeks off at full pay and for up to ten thousand gold in horsepital expenses with an extention if needed. Both were cashed at EQNB with signatures that matched the sample cards.
“Clarice, I have been paying top scale by benefice, which, like Foamy's were all signed to match the sample cards, as required when cashing Royal Benefices.”
Foamy snorted, “Afraid not, Your Highness. Impre always gave us pay packets with coins. None of the troupe, stage hands, set builders or painters, ever saw a benefice. Frankly, we don't trust EQNB at all. We do all of our banking here at Ponyville Trust and Loan. With Grumpy Goat on the Board of Directors, we know that it is dead honest!”
Princess Twilight snickered, “Dead Honest about perfectly describes Grumpeter! Good choice for banking too! All of the Principality banking is done there at PTL. PTL's got over ten times more in liquid assets than EQNB. That's why this Principality is so prosperous.”
Kin added to the mix a bit by offering, “What Foamy and Clarice just told you guys is spot on.”
Foamy and Clarice were not to be deterred from their initial goal, “Now that that's covered, about these dances! Kin, if you can do to us what you did to them,” she pointed at AJ, Rarity and Pinkie, “it would really help us to score these dances. We want to learn to choreograph them properly.
“We really like Princess Twilight's suggestion. It will let us add these dynamite dances to the show without having to work up a new main stage dance and sets. We only need to hang backrop and wings curtains that I know that we already have.”
Pinkie, to call attention, made a metalic BURR by doing a bust shimmy in her coin decorated dancing bra, and stated flatly, “We need Red and Sweet Lawn in on this. I'll bet that they could do backdrops that will really make the dancers stand out! Candy might have some good ideas too! You guys have seen her genius at costume design! I'd lay money on her fixing up something in these dances that would work for pegassi!”
That was when Twilight's mirror sounded a warbling tone!
“What is it, Captain Ranbow Dash?”
“We have some lard butt who claims to be from Canterlot Castle and in charge of the gala! He set off alarms trying to open the locked stage doors! He wants to dump all of Pinkie's scenery into the street to make room for HIS scenery that is on the train coming from Canterlot. He claims that the show will be a ballet called 'The Singing Swan'!”
Celestia chuckled, “Speaking of evil will draw it to you!”
Princess Luna interrupted, “Rainbow, this is Luna. If that lard butt is named Impre Sario, put him on!”
A dusty orange unicorn came to the mirror. He snapped, “Whatever your business, make it quick! I have only a few days to get this fundraiser gala organized!”
“Impre! Look at who you are talking to! YOU have no part in this show!”
“I don't care if you are this pipsqueek local so called Princess! My authority is directly from the Princesses Celestia and Luna! They outrank everypony in this kingdom! I AM IN CHARGE HERE.”
“I am afraid not, Impre. By the Joint Royal Order of Princess Luna, Princess Celestia and Princess Twilight Sparkle, you are removed from ALL responsibility connected to any show or event whatsoever.
“Guard Captain Rainbow Dash, by the authority just referred to, place Impre Sario under Royal Arrest. Cap his horn and put him into a cell until it shall be our Joint Pleasure to see to his case. For a holding charge, put embezzlement of 10,500 golden bits and forgery of a Royal Benefice for personal gain.”
The pony in the mirror was utterly aghast! “You can't do this! I have served you for years!”
Celestia put her horn into the conversation, “We are aware of that, Impre. We are putting the RIS on your case this very morning. While we were speaking to friends recently, I had occasion to look at Foamy's signature card at EQNB. It is a right handed signature. The problem is simple. Foamy is LEFT handed. The Royal Benefice that was cashed for her sick foal Barrel Racer's horsepitalization matched the card. She did not get the money. Luna has verified that by Bridge of Dream.
“If you do not cooperate in your arrest, our Joint Order is for you to be slain where you stand. All clear? No need to like it. Just cooperate or die.”
Foamy, overhearing the conversation was dropjawed! “Kill Impe! I know that he's a jerk, but death?”
Luna smiled but there appeared to be literal fire in her eyes! “Foamy, dear, what he did to you was only the tiniest tip of a very big iceberg. We won't know until the Royal Intelligence Service report is done, but it appears that he was hijacking around a half to two thirds of the ENTIRE Royal Ballet budget. There may be more besides. He did many fundraising events.”

(Long post-LATimes) Hiltzik: Annexation would be good for the U.S. - Los Angeles Times
Here's Hiltzik's tongue-in-cheek assessment of Felon 47's quest to conquer more countries.

Vice President JD Vance arrives at the remote Pituffik Space Base in Greenland on March 28, 2025.
(Jim Watson / Pool Photo)
According to Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, Greenland and Canada have everything to gain and nothing to lose from being annexed to the United States.
“Denmark hasn’t done a good job at keeping Greenland safe,” Vance said at America’s Pituffik Space Base in Greenland last week. Denmark, which oversees Greenland’s administration, hasn’t kept Greenland “safe from a lot of very aggressive incursions from Russia, China and other nations,” he added.
Trump talks as though Canada’s becoming the 51st state would be an economic win-win for both countries.
We do not have uninsured or underinsured residents. We do not have different qualities of insurance depending on a person’s employment....All Canadians have health insurance and need rather than wealth is what drives access to care.
— Danielle Martin, expert on Canadian healthcare
Leaving these assertions aside, it’s proper to note that the influence exerted by annexed lands is a two-way street.
And that’s why the U.S. should annex — needs to annex — both Greenland and Canada. Let’s start the process without delay.
The principal gain for Americans from making both countries part of the U.S. comes from their social policies. In both countries, they’re better than America’s in many respects. They cover more residents, provide greater benefits and have more support from political leaders across the partisan spectrum.
Let’s take a closer look at what Americans can learn from its putative new territories.
We’ll start with Canada.
Like the United States, Canada provides old-age pensions, though unlike in the U.S. these are partially paid out of general tax revenues. Canadians also can receive unemployment relief and workers’ compensation. The difference between the effectiveness of the two countries’ government pension programs can be measured by comparing their poverty rates for residents ages 65 and over. In Canada it was 14.5% in 2019-2022, in the U.S. it was 23.1%.
There are several notable differences between the American and Canadian safety nets. One is a child benefit. Canada provides parents as much as $7,787 Canadian (about $5,438 in U.S. currency) per child for children through age 5, and $6,570 Canadian (about $4,600) for children ages 6-17. The benefit phases out for those with incomes over $67,000 (about $47,000).
The U.S. child tax credit is currently $2,000 a year per child and is scheduled to drop to $1,000 in 2026. It phases out for couples earning $400,000.
Perhaps the most significant difference concerns the countries’ government healthcare programs. Canada’s system is a single-payer program, with the government paying for most necessary care; households can buy private plans to cover services that aren’t part of the government system, such as vision and dental services and outpatient prescriptions. But all Canadians are covered by the government program.
American politicians have tied themselves into knots trying to find negative things to say about Canada’s universal single-payer healthcare system.
A sterling example was provided by then-U.S. Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), who during a 2014 Senate hearing grilled Danielle Martin, a Canadian expert on healthcare policy, about the supposed shortcomings of the Canadian system. Burr homed in on Canadians’ most common complaint about their system: the long waits for some services, largely resulting from a shortage of primary care doctors.
“On average, how many Canadian patients on a waiting list die each year, do you know?” Burr asked Martin, with a smirk suggesting he had just unshipped a “gotcha.” Martin batted it right back: “I don’t, sir, but I do know that there are 45,000 in America who die waiting because they don’t have insurance at all.”
As Martin had said in her prepared statement: “We do not have uninsured or underinsured residents. We do not have different qualities of insurance depending on a person’s employment.... At substantially lower cost than in the U.S., all Canadians have health insurance and need rather than wealth is what drives access to care.”
The Canadian government pays for reproductive healthcare, including abortions. There are no gestational age restrictions, although most abortions are performed during the first trimester and those after 23 weeks require specialized care. There are no criminal penalties for performing abortions.
Those are obvious differences from the American experience. By law, federal funds can’t be spent on abortions. Since the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision in 2022, individual states have imposed their own restrictions on abortion, sometimes by outlawing the procedure outright and even exposing those who perform abortions to criminal charges.
The consequences for maternal health in the U.S. have been horrific. In Canada, according to 2023 statistics, the maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births was 12.22. The U.S. rate that year was 18.6.
More worrying was a trend seen in Texas, among the states with a strict ban on abortions, where maternal mortality rose sharply to 28.5 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2022, a year after Texas banned abortions.
The social safety net in Greenland is a bit harder to analyze. For the most part Greenlanders enjoy the benefits of Danish policies.
Greenland’s social environment is also different from Denmark’s — its Indigenous population, which has its own social mores, is larger as a proportion of the population, and residents are concentrated in the giant island’s southwest. The island has a population of about 60,000, about a third of whom live in the capital, Nuuk.
Denmark’s social policies are among the most socially liberal in the world. According to a government website, tax-funded benefits for Danish citizens include paid parental leave that can total almost a full year, subsidized day care, a universal single-payer healthcare program with no copays except for prescriptions; dental care is typically provided by private plans. All medical and nursing education is free.
Denmark doesn’t have a minimum wage law, but collective bargaining agreements have resulted in a standard minimum of about $15.57 (U.S.) an hour — more than in most jurisdictions in the U.S., where the mandated federal minimum is $7.25 an hour.
Denmark recently liberalized its abortion law, raising the right to obtain abortion upon request to up to 18 weeks of pregnancy from 12 weeks, beginning June 1. Girls ages 15 or over don’t need parental consent. Abortions are free, covered by the government program.
The maternal mortality rate in Denmark is about 5 per 100,000 live births but may be higher in Greenland, where medical care is less accessible in remote communities.
The political cultures of the U.S., Canada and Greenland (or Denmark, if you prefer) are also divergent. Those other countries don’t seem to have the same proportion of crass blowhards in their political structure as the U.S. That’s not the same as saying they don’t have any crass blowhards in politics — Canadians will remember the escapades of former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford or the efforts by former Quebec Premier Rene Levesque to have his francophone province secede from English-speaking Canada.
Once all these factors are considered, another question arises: Why stop with Canada and Greenland? There are other countries that have managed to score higher than the U.S. in terms of the happiness of their populace.
The list has been led for years by Finland, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway, among others. On this roster, the U.S. ranked a dismal 24th in 2024, behind Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and, indeed, Canada.
Think of it this way. Going only by which countries might teach us how to make our people happier, if we could only make them part of the U.S. — the number of candidates for annexation comes to 23, not just two. Trump and Vance need to get down to work.

There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism.
Last week I read something on line about the comedian Bill Burr’s rant against liberals. Principally his issue seems to be that the ultra-right are a bunch of losers for which he presents Elon Musk as sufficient evidence, and that worse still, the fight against them is staffed by spineless liberals. Bills seemingly takes aim at supposedly ‘left-wing’ celebrities who have a ‘I wash my hands of them!’ attitude towards fascism.
The quote was “This is why I hate liberals,” he said. “Liberals have no teeth whatsoever. They just go, ‘Oh my God, can you believe this? I’m getting out of the country!’ I’m just like, you’re gonna leave the country because of one guy with dyed hair plugs and a laminated face? Who makes a bad car and has an obsolete social media platform? Why doesn’t he leave? Why are we so afraid of this guy who can’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag?”
It got me thinking a lot about what the phrase ‘There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism’ and how that has come to represent something to left wing people that seemingly relates more to ‘Fuck it why bother’ than ‘the system we live under is designed to punish, it should change’.
Moving countries, blackout squares, Palestine pin badges. Maybe we should just put a woman in charge?
How radical is it to share an AI generated image of a massacre in Gaza.
That protest of American liberals all in pink.
This is what we have in the fight against fascism?

Laser drilling machines revolutionize manufacturing.
The modern industrial scene is mostly dependent on laser drilling equipment as they provide several benefits over conventional drilling techniques. From metals to ceramics and composites, these tools make exact holes in different materials using concentrated laser beams. Laser drilling reduces the necessity for physical contact, unlike traditional mechanical drilling, therefore lowering equipment wear and tear and the likelihood of material damage. Applications requiring very tiny and precise holes, including those in aerospace, automotive, and electronics sectors, find this contactless drilling method perfect as it guarantees great accuracy and cleanliness. For companies looking for efficiency and quality, laser drilling is fast-rising as the preferred fix.

Principal advantages of laser drilling machines
The capacity of a laser drilling machineto produce very exact holes with outstanding repeatability is its most important benefit. When jobs requiring micro-drilling or extremely thin holes call for the laser's pinpoint precision, it is appropriate as conventional techniques usually fall short. Working with a variety of materials, including strong metals like titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum, offers even another advantage. Customizing hole sizes and forms made possible by laser drilling equipment gives producers freedom as well. Furthermore, the lack of mechanical components lowers the possibility of material deformation or burr generation, therefore preserving the integrity of the drilled components.
Manufacturing Integration Laser Marking Machines
In sectors needing permanent, high-quality marks on goods, laser marking devices have become indispensable instruments. Engraving, labeling, or coding components and goods with logos, serial numbers, or other unique identifiers with this equipment is rather common. Their flawless integration into production processes gives producers a quick, affordable method to mark many materials, including glass, plastics, and metal. For sectors such as electronics, automotive, and pharmaceuticals, where traceability and brand recognition are vital, laser marking devices are indispensable because of their accuracy and speed. They raise regulatory compliance and quality control in addition to their aesthetic appeal of goods.
Laser Marking Machine Precision: Its Value for Integration
Precision is essential in production to guarantee brand consistency and product quality, so laser marking machines for integrationreally shine. These machines guarantee that marks are clear and visible as they provide the great degree of accuracy needed to produce complex patterns and fine details. In sectors where delicate lettering or logos is needed on small or complex components, this is especially crucial. Moreover, unlike ink or paint, laser marking does not fade with time. Hence, the marks will stay clear all of the lifetime of the object. For goods that must resist demanding conditions or heavy handling, this makes it the perfect choice.
The ways in which laser drilling machines improve efficiency
By simplifying the production process, laser drilling machines are greatly increasing industrial efficiency. Many times, including many phases, traditional drilling techniques need drill bits, lubricants, and cooling systems—all of which may slow down the operation. Conversely, by directly using strong laser energy to vaporize material, laser drilling removes several of these phases. Along with accelerating the drilling process, this produces cleaner holes requiring less post-processing—furthermore, automated laser drilling equipment helps to increase production and lower labor expenses by itself. Laser drilling machine efficiency will remain revolutionary in lowering lead times as industrial needs rise.
Conclusion:
Laser drilling and marking technologies are revolutionizing contemporary production by providing exact, quick, reasonably priced solutions across many sectors. High precision, speed, and adaptability together make these technologies essential for uses requiring the highest standards of quality. Laser marking machines for integration and laser drilling machines help enterprises simplify manufacturing processes, raise product quality, and increase operational efficiency. These technologies will surely become even more crucial in determining the direction of production as they develop. Gore Vidal
Seus ensaios políticos e culturais foram publicados nas revistas The Nation , New Statesman , New York Review of Books e Esquire .
Outras sociedades, particularmente as militaristas, a exaltaram. A homossexualidade é tão natural quanto a heterossexualidade.

Had a quick flick through some bits of Parton's biography of Burr and the world of Burr biographers has a problem.
Parton does mention a load of interesting stuff that nobody else does, and I can see why people refer to him. He tells a straightforward, highly readable story; and in it he states things as facts whether they're actual facts, disputed facts, or conclusions that he himself has drawn based on limited evidence. He didn't, so far as I can tell, know any of the principals, and he doesn't give most of his sources. And, for example, he describes That Duel as though Pendleton's account is gospel truth. He is, in short, unreliable; but historians seem to have been relying on him anyway...

Day 24: “I Never Knew Daylight Could Be So Violent.” — Hamilton — How can the sun still rise when so much horror has come to pass? How can the world still spin?

He doesn't mind it as much as he pretends to— Philip is a sweet boy, after all, and it gives Aaron the excuse he needs to see his former friend despite bridges being burned to a crisp. But when Aaron get's a phone call one stormy night, everything changes.
Day 30: Recovery + Hospital Bed + "What Have I Done?" — Hamilton · Jamilton— After an attempt brought on by something Thomas said, he's left to pick up the pieces of a broken Hamilton.

How do you create a cult?
You stay awake for 24+ hours and slowly lose yourself to the hallucinations, blasting ‘nonstop’ from the Hamilton musical.
Or at least that's how I accidentally wrote a manifesto for my friend group when we were bullied and wanted to bring these ‘Demand essays’ to our junior high’s principal. Make a change or something along those lines.
Sometimes I wonder if I could rewrite the manifesto.
But that's insane.
Or is it...
Bah- I’m kidding to some degree. However, I miss writing like I was “Running out of time” or pretending to be Arron Burr when listening to the Hamilton soundtrack. Those were the days, innocent in nature, definitely traumatized at an early age.
Curiously I ponder a new thought, have any of you done what I’ve done to fit in but did it in a ‘I want my friends to be cheered up by my insanity cause they thought it was hilarious’ kinda fit in?
#hamilton musical#nonstop#cult?#cult#writing in general#my bad i didnt mean to write a manifesto for a hypothetical cult
