I’m not interested in what the main post is about (I do not give a shit if it said that season 1 Catra was so sexy that she’d also make straight girls want to have sex with her when the 2018 show was starting) but the comment made by A_Alien_From_Earth?
Do…do they not realize that the 1985 She-Ra show was specifically made for the girls who were watching Filmmation’s He-Man when it came out earlier a few years ago?
By that logic, Nate shouldn’t have even thought about touching the rights to reboot the show since She-Ra’s “degrading” looks (and I say this with heavy sarcasm) is something that will always be corrupting girls and other afab minors (like Nate once was) that were born after its creation.
What a slap that specific comment is to kid me who was surprised when she (a self-confessing 90’s baby) found out about it after already watching He-Man beforehand and who is still bummed today that 2002 He-Man hadn’t reached Adora yet because while I know the writing isn’t perfect (looking at you, episode that introduced Sy-Clone since the resolution was stupid even when *I* was watching it in elementary school), man was He-Man a glow-up in the face and hair department. I *know* She-Ra would be gorgeous as well and their combined strength-show in that series’ artwork and animation would’ve been talked about in the fandom (at the least) to this specific day.
P.S. My apologies for the word vomit. TLDR: The 1st “best” (🤢🤮😤) comment pissed me off massively when I saw it as a someone who saw She-Ra reruns the first time as a wee ankle biter.
i saw the post and comment and...
why do people say this?
no, seriously, why do they always say this? this show was for children. if the very first thing you think of is that it's a way to turn on men, you've got a few issues.
they do know that it wasn't just men working on this show, right? women were involved too. and they do know that, at the time this show came out, it was powerful and moving for women?
why is it that just because it doesn't seem to be relevant now ( even though it absolutely still is, considering the world's current circumstances ), that every aspect of it is either misconstrued to shit or just bashed on by people who haven't even seen it, and just make a bunch of assumptions about it?
"there's nothing wrong with being flat-chested either". no one said that, and pretty much all of the women in the reboot can be deemed as flat-chested, with maybe a few exceptions.
i can't stand it when people do this.

Rhe Links are like this because I accidentally deleted this several times over and I got tired of linking them correctly.
Now about the topics of retributive and restorative Justice. Well more like, more EXACTLY rambling.
On the original (I guess the now private) post, I believe you mentioned your disdain for someone suggesting that Israel should face restorative Justice instead of retributive Justice. Instead of leaving the response there, I decided to make a separate one because that post was too long and I’m mixed about retributive Justice in by itself and I rather Israel not be the focus on this post.
Now I think I can get why “Retributive Justice” is a favored concept. I mean for the past years there’s been a surge of politicians who’s trying to make life a living hell for LGBT people; such as forbidding talk in school about sexual orientation, trying to ban drag shows, even trying to get To Kill a Mockingbird banned from libraries, and making stupid “educational videos” where they basically say “Slavery wasn’t a terrible thing kids!” So of course it would be hugely entertaining so watch those kind of people get their just desserts.
The problem is that “retributive Justice” can very easily be a pipeline into some either misaimed, toxic, or even wicked beliefs. For starters well basically it’s punishment. And punishment can in many instances, be equivalent to suffering. And it’s believed in society that suffering is a good thing, that one could only be greater better through suffering, that it teaches one how to be a good person. Which is not always true.
I’ve seen this already with fictional characters, as more than a handful of people believe that Catra and Azula, both victims of abuse since childhood, should have suffered more than they already had by their respective series, despite the fact that Catra’s whole arc was that she kept putting herself in a cycle of self-punishment and suffering due to her bad actions and the latter gets locked up in a mental institution by the end. Not to mention wishing they could have suffered more contradicts some of the themes in those shows. I’ve seen a “funny” RWBY fan skit where the villain Adam Taurus gets one of his eyes branded using the logo of a mining factory company in what was supposed to be a “badass” moment. The same mining company which forced him to slavery since childhood and already branded one of his eyes, which is implied to be a strong reason why he ended up a terrible person.
https://www.reddit.com/r/PrincessesOfPower/comments/jkzgxe/some_thoughts_on_catras_redemption_for_the_all/
It’s something that affects real life. There’s this weird incident that’s not really about punishment but it is about suffering sorta. Sydney Sweeney recounted working a brief stint as a tour guide for that tram ride in Universal Studios Hollywood to make ends meet for her struggling family as they were poor and some weird entitled Tiktoker tried to claim she was lying because apparently becoming a Universal tour guide was this “notoriously difficult” position that “not everybody could get into”, and apparently a bandwagon of people hopped up trying to say that she actually had a cushy life as if struggling and suffering is the key to being a good person.
ever heard of Jasmine Richardson? She’s a Canadian killer who murdered her own parents and younger brother along with a boyfriend accomplice. She was incarcerated for 10 years, and then afterward once she served her time, the legal system cleared her criminal history and she walks free now. By all means, this sounds like a real life pure evil character and a misjudgment… except if you know that Jasmine was 12 years old when she did this. And the boyfriend character was a 23 year old man. Medical professionals confirmed that she did appear to be truly rehabilitated upon her release. The comments don’t care, they say that this person who was a manipulated child groomed by a older man is a utter monster who does not deserve a chance and should instead be locked up for life in prison or at least publicly shamed.

Speaking of prisons actually, have you ever heard about the prison system in Norway? Originally they built prisons similar to that of the US however due to the fact that prisoners released kept recommitting crimes two years of their release Norway decided to take a new approach. They focused on “Restorative Justice”, treating their prisoners (even the crueler ones) like ordinary people with more humane conditions to make it so they can reintegrate into society easier, some have even got a better chance of getting employed afterwards. It seems to be working pretty well for them, as their recidivism rate is one of the lowest in the world. Compare that to the more “retributive” US prison system where often prisoners are treated subhuman and it’s nigh impossible for anyone to hire them afterwards, and of course the high recidivism. And the US may not be the worst in that regards! What do you think about the Norway prison system?
https://ultranos.tumblr.com/post/645435392662929408/sits-down-and-brews-chrysanthemum-tea-atla
Here’s a choice quote from this blog post that got me thinking: “This has told me that the very basis of the US justice system is flawed. That people are focused on the “retribution” part of retributive justice, they’re focused on vengeance. Not mercy. Not the humanity of the victim and perpetrator.”
Another post I’ve recently found that got me thinking is this which points out that the thing is, people like Qanon, racists, anti-abortionists, corrupt governments like America, Israel and North Korea do believe that they are the good guys and that their acts of violence or whatever are their form of Justice. Sure those are more obviously evil motives, but the fact is those still function on the same motive on “retribution” which can turn into a pipeline to more reckless thoughts.
(I was toying with the idea of doing a Mandy story with this theme; but the problem is that it would be a big Author tract and I usually design the stories to be open to interpretation so I don’t know if I should send it)
There’s this great story of the George Perez Wonder Woman comic series that dealt with this matter, better than a mediocre episode of Justice League which tried to deal with a similar theme. The story was that there was this island much like Themyscira, except that its inhabitants came to be through a violent revolution where most of the men died. Despite banning men from coming to the island, the argonaut Jason and his crew came into the island, seducing the women which resulted in many offspring. However Jason and the crew abandoned them, and the islanders took ”justice” by slaughtering all the remaining men (mostly infants) including the Queen’s own father and son and banishing her and her daughter. In the end, it was revealed that because it was a ”paradise” brought by prejudice and violence, and with no one left to fight now that all the men were dead, the women turned their anger towards and slaughtered each other, the society collapsed. Maybe you can use it as an allegory for something in real life, IDK. But the Themyscira shown in that same series as ruled by Hippolyta and Diana did not suffer from this problem as they chose a more peaceful approach (in fact, any instances of writers portraying a more flawed version of Wonder Woman’s homeworld usually go use Amazon stereotypes, and those tend to be poorly written)

No, it isn't. Here's the actual line from that page: https://www.reddit.com/r/PrincessesOfPower/comments/j9ed1k/so_i_was_reading_the_shera_books_and_i_noticed_in/
They were kids being exploited to be used as soldiers, the closest relation they knew of were sisterhood. Once they grew up, they realized their feelings shifted.
They thought themselves as sisters, not that they were as such. I'm not a fan of Catradora but let's not lie, okay?
reminder that catradora is canonically incest. and if you ship it you're a proshipper. it's confirmed they're sisters in the spop BTS book. it's also abusive. you guys have horrible taste in ships

Presenting.... Jemstar! Musical Mistress of Magic! I've been mulling about making this custom doll for @garrett_sander as a thanks for him picking up the She Ra dolls for me for like a year. I figured I would have it done by the next toy fair we went to, but 2020 happened and the project has been basically in a coma. But I knew when I heard he was leaving Australia I fast tracked this project like crazy and had to have her finished in a few days. She's Jem reimagined as an 80s She Ra friend done using the She Ra head that Garrett and Darren worked on. For a quirky crossover doll I really put a lot more effort into the design than I probably should have. I knew I wanted her recogniseably Jem but I upped the pink in her outfit to contrast with her hair, turned her belt into a She Ra adjacent skirt and played up the star motif. Big thanks to @sunsationaljoe and @emmakate.sequentialarts for a lot of the help that went into the overall look of her especially since their knowledge of 80s toys surpasses mine. #jemandtheholograms #shera #princessesofpower #wewantmoreshera #wewantmoremotu #repaint https://www.instagram.com/p/CLteZoyJmRz/?igshid=1e1e9zswkviga

“ Though, in seriousness: the concept of how the Scorpion Kingdom met its end is actually a fascinating one once you realize that Hordak, upon landing on Etheria, was in no position to single-handedly take over a kingdom. What we know about the clones makes it highly unlikely, if not impossible, for him to have raised an army and destroyed a people all by himself. One must also take into account where the entire rest of the Horde is from. Why are they there? Where did they come from? Why are they fighting? How did the entire thing start? How could Hordak convince an entire army to ally with him?”
By lying. Duh. At bare minimum, he lied through omission. He didn’t tell anyone about Hordak Prime, now, did he?
“ Class and race-based revolt centered around magic-users vs. The Peasantry makes a whole lot more sense than… I don’t know… Hordak kidnapping and single-handedly raising ten thousand infants for his army.”
Colonialism disguised as class and race-based revolt centered around agic-users vs the peasantry makes more sense still. Hordak’s talk about class revolt is exactly that - talk. Why do you think he calls himself LORD Hordak if he’s so against the monarchy. His ultimate goal is to conquer the world for Hordak Prime, that’s not exactly a class-based revolt from where I’m standing. You’ve heard the phrase “greenwash”, right? Well, think of it like classwash - he prentends to care about class injustice, but his end goal is to bring Etheria into a deeply classist, conformist society.
And yes, I know, he has a sympathetic past, he was a victim of the society in which he lived, but he left that society and spent 50 years free from the Prime’s influence. At bare minimum, we know the Prime wouldn’t have told someone he viewed as a slave to call himself “Lord.” Prime’s huge ego would have balked at the idea, so Hordak chose to call himself “Lord” of his own volition for 50 years. Not a great look for an alleged class revolutionary. Now, I’m not saying Hordak’s criticisms of Etheria’s feudal monarchy was unjust, because he was basically right - it’s just that he cared more about appearing like a brave progressive than actually, you know, being one.
I mean, for most of the show, LORD Hordak is safe in his lab while his minions die like cannon fodder. So much for class revolt.
“ But, ehn. What do I know? I have no critical thinking skills!”
Word of advice - when making any piece of media, be it a film, a book, or even a blog post, never say anything that the reviewers might use against you. Remember that film called “the dissapointment room”. The reviewers had a field day with that one. Say something like “I have no critical thinking skills” and you never know when someone might reply “That’s right, you don’t.”
Oh, and one more thing...(https://www.reddit.com/r/PrincessesOfPower/comments/p3ehvl/the_horde_is_bad_because_colonization_is_bad/ ) Hordak is totally a colonialist. A black woman in Ghana said so. You really going to claim you understand colonialism better than a native African? Here’s a hint - if you DO claim that, it won’t be a good look for you.
I’m not trying to be mean here, I’m just saying that PoC fans have pointed out the parralels between Hordak’s actions and colonialism more than once. He’s a colonialist. A nuanced colonialist, yes, but a colonialist nonetheless. I don’t understand why you stubbornly refuse to acknowledge this fact.
Here's my personal take on with ever or not you can trust an SPOP fan by which character they stan.
Shadow Weaver Stans: definitely not
Hordak Stans: Absolutely never.
Entrapta Stans: Always be wary. If they ship her with Hordak, run, because they will defend him to their dying breath.
Glimmer Stans: Not if they're a Catra critic. All or nothing. Also, not if they ship Gl*mb*w and their username starts with a T because they will be misogynistic.
Adora Stans: I haven't met a lot of Adora stans, frankly. But ultimately, there will probably be a lot of projecting.
Bow Stans: If they ship him with Glimmer, they have very low standards for ships and chemistry, so they probably just have bad taste. I wouldn't hang around.
Mermista Stans: People should stan her, but if they ship her with Sea Hawk, especially without criticizing the problematic aspects of the ship, then probably be very wary.
Sea Hawk Stans: pick a better character to stan, c'mon. Listen, I love Sea Hawk, but after S1 he's just annoying and kind of creepy in how he romanticizes Mermista.
The other princesses: Probably very neutral. If it's Scorpia, kind of a 50-50 chance they'll absolutely despise Catra.
Double Trouble Stans: they probably want to hurt their favs.
Castaspella Stans: Ask yourself if they're a real Castaspella stan or if they ship C*stawe*ver and just think Casta is hot. If it's the former, it's me, so make up your own mind.
