Paintings from Buckingham Palace: part II
A retexture by La Comtesse Zouboff — Original Mesh by @thejim07
Spread among 13 occupied and historic royal residences in the United Kingdom, the collection is owned by King Charles III and overseen by the Royal Collection Trust. The British monarch owns some of the collection in right of the Crown and some as a private individual. It is made up of over one million objects, including 7,000 paintings, over 150,000 works on paper, this including 30,000 watercolours and drawings, and about 450,000 photographs, as well as around 700,000 works of art, including tapestries, furniture, ceramics, textiles, carriages, weapons, armour, jewellery, clocks, musical instruments, tableware, plants, manuscripts, books, and sculptures.
Some of the buildings which house the collection, such as Hampton Court Palace, are open to the public and not lived in by the Royal Family, whilst others, such as Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace and the most remarkable of them, Buckingham Palace are both residences and open to the public.
About 3,000 objects are on loan to museums throughout the world, and many others are lent on a temporary basis to exhibitions.

Disclaimer!
Some paintings in the previews look blurry but in the game they're very high definition, it's just because I had to add multiple preview pictures in one picture to be able to upload them all! Also sizes shown in previews are not accurate to the objects' actual sizes in most cases.

Queen Victoria’s Descendants (updated 2023)
If you see any mistakes or can offer info on something like “Child 1” or an unknown birth or death year, please let me know. The only non-living descendants I kept on this list were her children
Key
Bold names=Queen Victoria’s children
* Descendants are already listed elsewhere on this list or the ones who would follow said person Examples:  Mark Nicholas van Eyck should be followed by  Princess Dorothea of Hesse but she and her descendants are also descended elsewhere. Another examples are Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh’s descendants and the descendants of Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha and   Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten
** I’ve seen reports that she died in 2002, but no obituary. Any ideas?
Bold and Italics together on one name denotes this person is presently one of the 10 eldest lived persons of Queen Victoria (
Bold, Italics and underline on one name (Lady Pamela Hicks) denotes the current eldest living descendant of Queen Victoria

#onthisday1967 Funeral service for Princess Kira of Prussia. The wife of the head of the Hohenzollern dynasty, Louis Ferdinand, died on 8 September 1967 at the age of 58 as a result of a stroke.
-------
Thankfully I had the privilege to meet HKKH Louis Ferdinand some years before he passed away in Berlin, Palace Charlottenburg. An unforgettable experience.

Following the inauspicious start of her marriage and the first few difficult years, Ekaterina Pavlovna Bagration leaves Russia for good in 1805. She starts travelling extensively, effectively making her carriage her home. Ten years later she’ll be one of the grand hostesses of the dancing Congress, one whom Emperor Alexander will call his ‘intimate friend’.
But what was she doing in the meantime, especially while living in Vienna? She hardly contented herself with having famous lovers and wearing dresses of indecently thin Indian muslin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis-Guillaume Otto, the French ambassador in Vienna, wrote thusly in February 1811 to Jean-Baptiste de Nompère de Champagny, Minister of External Relations:
Princess Bagration devotes herself to politics with such ardour that she was the best of friends with three consecutive Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
The French historian Albert Vandal paints us the following picture of the Russian coterie in Vienna circa 1810:
In Vienna more than in any place in the world, women loathe France and its government. On the contrary, they love and follow Russia, also because the Russians of Vienna, that is to say the group of which Count Razumovsky is the leader, rule fashion and govern the vanities. In a city where the court shows little and lives meanly, where the nobility is impoverished , yet crazy for pleasures, Razumovsky's always open house and the salon of Princess Bagration give society a center and a rallying point: the Russian coterie dominates and leads all the others by the prestige of its splendor and its restless activity.
Vandal without any hesitation names Ekaterina as Andrei Razumovsky's right hand in his salon campaign. He also makes a somewhat exaggerated claim naming her as the premiere Russian female diplomatic operator during those years; whether true or not, she played a considerable role.
Certain men of our time were able to know and observe this celebrity in her decline: ever faithful to the diaphanous dresses, the mannered elegance and the languid attitudes which had the gift of pleasing at the beginning of the century.
Those dresses must have been pretty unforgettable, if not only they won her the nickname of the Naked Angel, but also were vividly remembered and oft-mentioned by all manner of witnesses, including Lord Palmerston and Goethe.
In 1810, she had the first salon in Vienna: there she brought together, in the eternal absence of her husband, her faithful, her worshipers, her courtiers. In this circle of privileged people, where no layman was admitted, opinions and fashions were formed; it was sovereignly decided which relationships were permitted, who could be seen and who should be avoided; it was decreed that the French embassy was not in good style, that to frequent it too closely would be to breach principles and decorum, and everyone had to comply with this ruling: less out of conviction than out of compliance and respect, fear of shame or sarcasm.
One of the regular guests in Ekaterina's salon was her fellow sexyman, Metternich. (She counted another of our candidates among her lovers, Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, not long before his death.)
Metternich himself takes part in the entertainments organized by the Russian colony, and appears in living paintings. This frivolity is partly political calculation for him, but also his taste, his need for society and the passion of women invariably attract him to where he has fun and where he loves.
Ambassador Otto himself recognizes that his own political remonstrances to Metternich will not stand up to “a look from Princess Bagration”.
Naturally, it wasn't all living paintings and romantic tête-à-têtes. The anti-French propaganda machine was chugging day and night at Ekaterina's salon; there broke out false news and astounding rumours, there arose cabals against the men in power. One might say that the one thing Ekaterina had in common with her estranged husband were her anti-Napoleonic sentiments. ;)
But was Ekaterina Pavlovna a confirmed Russian agent? Certain things seem to suggest that she was. There was a number of known Russian agents attached to the Vienna coterie, including David Alopeus in between appointments. Then there are the persistent rumours going around during the Congress and Alexander's earlier intervention on Ekaterina's behalf regarding her child. Also, some of Pyotr Ivanovich's comments made to another Ekaterina (Dolgorukova) about his wife... except that might have been just him being him. And we do know that when Ekaterina moved to Paris, her house and activities were very closely observed; apparently she was enough of a concern that the secret police just had to know which of her guests spent the night and which of them had left.
In any case, Ekaterina was one slick operator and hostess with a very definite anti-Napoleonic party line. And I strongly believe that her famed Indian muslins are no less sexy than Trobriand's grand tenue of Imperial chasseurs!

Jacques de Trobriand
“The mustache, the uniform, and looking like Aaron Taylor Johnson in Anna Karenina”
Ekaterina Pavlovna Bagration
“Called «Le bel ange nu», the Naked Angel for her love towards diaphanous muslin gowns and the White Cat for her grace and capriciousness. Her lovers were numerous and grandiose, as were her connections - so much so that during the Congress of Vienna she was said to be a secret agent of the tsar. Gold of hair, with alabaster skin, she magnetised with her blue, sinful eyes. (The secret of her enchanting gaze was actually short-sightedness, but that only shows how you can make advantages out of flaws.)”

Note
Hello ! Joachim met other Kings / Queens? What were their impressions? Thanks.
Not very many of them, actually.
At Tilsit, he met Tsar Alexander, who presented him with the Order of St. Andrew, but I haven't come across any remarks Alexander made as to his impressions of Murat at the time. His younger brother Constantine, on the other hand, adored Murat and struck up a fast friendship with him, and the two of them were apparently quite a boisterous pair. Constantine even had a pair of baggy Cossack pants made for Murat (Napoleon found them appalling).
Murat also met King Frederick William of Prussia, and his wife, Queen Louise, at Tilsit. Princess Louise of Prussia recounts, in her memoirs (Quarante-cinq années de ma vie: 1770 à 1815), a scene in which the King complains to Murat of Napoleon's treatment of them; to which Murat responds: "All who surround Napoleon share my indignation at his conduct," and then proceeds to refer to the Emperor as a maroufle, which is an archaic word that can be roughly translated as a "rogue" or "rascal." But aside from this, I haven't found anything on either of their feelings towards Murat.
Murat missed out on an opportunity he undoubtedly would've relished in May of 1812, when all the monarchs either allied with or subservient to Napoleon gathered for a conference with him in Dresden. Napoleon refused to grant Murat permission to attend; their relationship had deteriorated considerably over the previous two years and Napoleon didn't want Murat hobnobbing with his fellow monarchs (especially the Austrians). “Murat’s head will be turned if the Emperor of Austria treats him well," Napoleon said to Caulaincourt, "and he will be certain to talk all sorts of nonsense." So Murat missed out on meeting not only the Emperor and Empress of Austria, but also the king of Württemburg, and the Grand Dukes of Würzburg, Hesse-Darmstadt, and Baden.
After forging his temporary alliance with Austria in 1814, Murat attempted to establish friendly relations with his fellow monarchs after Napoleon was sent to Elba. He wrote not only to the Emperor of Austria, but also to the Prince Regent of England (the future George IV) and to Louis XVIII of France. The latter two ignored him entirely; they refused to recognize his legitimacy as king and were determined to reestablish Ferdinand on the throne of Naples. His ambassadors sent to the Congress of Vienna found few people even willing to talk to them; Murat was essentially treated like a pariah by the other monarchs at this stage, and even his Austrian allies were warming to the idea of abandoning him.
Thanks for the ask!

The Royal Wedding took place at 12:30PM on Thursday, July 6th, 1893 in The Chapel Royal (Left Picture) at St. James Palace (Right Picture) in London, England

𝐸𝓃𝑔𝒶𝑔𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝒮𝓉𝑜𝓇𝓎
♕ Previous Engagement: Her Majesty Queen Mary (Top Picture) was engaged before meeting His Majesty George V. Mary had become engaged to His Royal Highness Prince Albert The Duke of Clarence and Avondale (Bottom Picture), the older brother of George. Sadly the wedding never happened, as The Duke had fell ill with the Flu which then took a bad turn, turning the flu into Pneumonia. The Duke passed away on Friday, January 8th, 1892 at The Sandringham House in Norfolk, England.
Tumblr media
♕ Staying In The Family - Part 1: Her Majesty Queen Victoria (George’s Grandmother: Left Picture) wanted the then His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales, to marry either Her Majesty Queen Marie of Romania (His Cousin: Middle Picture) or Grand Duchess Victoria Feodorovna (His Cousin: Right Picture). George sadly was not fond of either of the two women & Her Majesty Queen Marie of Romania (Middle Picture) did react to George’s proposal to her by rejecting him.
Tumblr media
♕ “I’m Too Young”: Even after his grandmother tried to wed George & his two cousins, the young prince refused to be married. “I still think marrying too young is a bad thing. The one thing I never could do is to marry a person that didn’t care for me. I should be miserable for the rest of my life.” George wrote this to his grandmother stating that he was too young to be married & even if he did marry young, he would marry someone he loved.
♕ Staying In The Family - Part 2: George’s grandmother & Mary had met during her engagement to the now parted Duke, & Queen Victoria was fond of Mary. She had spoken to Mary to see what she would think about marrying her fiancé’s brother. This was very embarrassing for both George & Mary, as Mary’s fiancé's & George’s brother, had only been dead for 1 year & the two were still in mourning. The couple began to feel the pressures of the royal life. Mary began to feel pressure from not only her family but George’s family to be a married woman. George felt the pressure of his new position as second-in-line to the throne, he was still recovering from the proposal rejection of his cousin Her Majesty Queen Marie of Romania, & he also had no idea if Mary even had romantic feelings towards him.
♕ The Proposal: After a long conversation with George’s favorite aunt Olga Constantinovna of Russia (Also known as Queen Olga of Greece: Left Picture), the young duke was urged to propose to his brother’s fiancé Mary. George had help with his proposal from his sister Her Royal Highness Louise The Princess Royal (Middle Picture) & his brother-in-law Alexander Duff 1st Duke of Fife (Louise’s husband: Right Picture). On Wednesday, May 3rd, 1893, Louise had “arranged” to have tea with Mary. When Mary arrived to have tea with Louise, she had found George & Louise waiting for her instead of just Louise. The Princess Royal had suggested that the couple go to the garden to go watch the frogs that lived in the garden pond. The duke then proposed to Mary by the pond & she happily accepted George’s proposal. The couple came to learn how to love & care for each other deeply, despite the stress & heartbreak of the last year.

♕ Morning: That Thursday morning, when George was walking the corridors of Buckingham Palace, he accidentally spotted his bride. As tradition, Bride & Groom are never supposed to see each other (unless a private moment is planned by the couple to meet with each other before the wedding) because it is bad luck. As George spotted Mary, he proceeded to make a low & courtly bow towards the princess, a sweet moment many say that Mary never forgot.
♕ Wedding Party: The Royal Wedding was attended by 5 Bridesmaids, 5 Junior Bridesmaids, & 2 Supporters of The Groom.
♕ Wedding Officiant: The Archbishop of Canterbury Edward White Benson (Left Picture) performed the ceremony. He was assisted by The Bishop of London Frederick Temple (Middle Picture), The Bishop of Rochester Randall Thomas Davidson 1st Baron Davidson of Lambeth (Right Picture), & 5 other priests.
Tumblr media
♕ Register Signing Tradition: As Tradition during all Royal Weddings, the Register must be signed. The Register of the Wedding of His Majesty George V The King & Her Majesty Queen Mary was signed by Her Majesty Queen Victoria, The Prime Minster William Ewart Gladstone (Pictured Below), & all other royal personages that were present at the wedding.
Tumblr media
♕ Balcony Tradition: As Tradition of all Royal Weddings, the Bride & Groom along with family, made an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Even Queen Victoria made a rare public appearance when she joined the couple on the Balcony.
♕ Official Portraits (Photo is in Order): The Official Painters of the Royal Wedding were Heinrich Anton von Angeli, Laurits Tuxen, & Sir Samuel Luke Fildes
Tumblr media
♕ Title Change: As Royal Tradition, the Groom (Sometimes) & Bride’s (Always) Title will change. Mary’s Title changed from Her Serene Highness Princess Victoria Mary of Teck to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of York. George’s Title changed from His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales to His Royal Highness The Duke of York.

♕ Spectators: Since The Wedding of His Majesty George V The King & Her Majesty Queen Mary, was the first public royal wedding in 32 years, the large crowd of spectators spread down the route of travel from Buckingham Palace to St. James Palace. As she arrived at the chapel, Mary gave the crowd a side-ways smile & a wave that made her seem a little nervous about her upcoming vows that were about to take place.

𝒲𝑒𝒹𝒹𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒪𝓊𝓉𝒻𝒾𝓉𝓈
♕ The Designer: In 1891, Mary’s mother Mary The Duchess of Teck announced that not only Mary’s dress but also the bridesmaids dresses would be made in Britain. Arthur Silver of Silver Studios was chosen to design the then Princess’s future wedding gown for when Mary was supposed to marry Prince Albert (But sadly the wedding never happened). Before the dress began, Mary & her mother visited the Warner & Sons’ factory which is located at the Hollybush Gardens in Spitalfields, London. The mother daughter duo asked the factory to make fine white silks with silver thread by Albert Parchment for the dress. Mary’s Second Wedding Dress was crafted by Linton & Curtis of Albemarle Street (A street in Mayfair Central London off Piccadilly).
♕ The First Dress: After Mary’s fiancé had passed away, her “Lily of the Valley” (A highly poisonous woodland flowering plant with sweetly scented, pendent, bell-shaped white flowers borne in sprays in spring) wedding was made public but was abandoned by the family & the designer.
Tumblr media
♕ The Second Dress: For Mary’s wedding to George, the design that she chose for her dress was “The May Silks” & would be influenced by Japanese Art. The design of the embroidery of the dress would include emblems of Roses, Shamrocks, Thistle, Orange Blossom, & True Lovers Knots. The front of Mary’s Wedding Gown was made of white satin which had 3 small flounces of old Honiton Lace (A Type of Lace Textile made by braiding & twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on wood or bone bobbins & is made in Honiton, Devon) from the wedding dress of her mother which were located on the top & upper parts of the sleeves. The bodice long, pointed, cut at the throat, made of Arthur Silver’s white & silver brocade, & satin fell from the Princess’s shoulders. The train of the gown was long but plain & Mary wore her mother’s veil, which was also made of Honiton lace & fastened using her wedding gift from Her Majesty Queen Mary, diamond pins. The veil was never used again in another royal wedding. Following the flower theme of the dress, small wreaths were placed around the bust & in Mary’s hair. (A Dark Photo than the one above so you can see the design better)
Tumblr media
♕ Royal Jewelry: For her wedding, Mary wore a diamond tiara as a loan from Queen Victoria. Along with the Tiara, the bride wore a Diamond Rivière Necklace from the Prince & Princess of Wales, Diamond Earrings from Prince George, & a Anchor Brooch from Prince George.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
𝐹𝓊𝓃 𝐹𝒶𝒸𝓉𝓈:
♕ The Wedding of His Majesty George V The King & Her Majesty Queen Mary, was the first Royal Wedding to take place in St. James Chapel since the death of Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Albert was Her Majesty Queen Victoria’s husband but many of the couple’s children married in the St. James Chapel. The cause of death was Typhoid Fever.
Tumblr media
♕ The Couple spent their honeymoon at Sandringham, which is George’s estate in Sandringham, Norfolk, England (Top Picture). They stayed at Sandringham until they left for the Osborne House in East Cowes, Isle of Wright, United Kingdom (Bottom Picture).
Key
Bold names=Queen Victoria’s children
* Descendants are already listed elsewhere on this list or the ones who would follow said person Examples:  Mark Nicholas van Eyck should be followed by  Princess Dorothea of Hesse but she and her descendants are also descended elsewhere. Another examples are Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh’s descendants and the descendants of Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha and  Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten
** I’ve seen reports that she died in 2002, but no obituary. Any ideas?
Prussian Meander Kokoshnik
Made by Koch in 1905 for Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Crown Princess of Prussia, gifted by her husband on the occasion of their wedding. She gave it to her daughter-in-law Kira Kirillovna of Russia, Princess Louis Ferdinand of Prussia. It was inherited by Louis Ferdinand of Prussia who left it to Georg Friedrich of Prussia.
