I am SO curious about both bugs and spiders in the rose knights, i get if bugs are spoiler-y but i would love some more information on spiders. Are they similar to real spiders? You mentioned them being the ones to use fire instead of the roses? Do they have anything with colours? Please?
:D SOMEONE ASKED ABOUT THE SPIDERS!!! Ask and ye shall receive some information! Okay, so the Spiders in the RK world are basically the Fey- magical otherwordly creatures with a spider aesthetic that took one look at the Roses and Dragons and unanimously thought "they spark joy!" and just. moved in without permission XD Spiders do whatever they want, whenever they want. Thankfully, most spiders only want to have nice places to live in and lots of gossip to keep them amused- so if a Spider moves into your home (whether you want it or not) it's like the highest compliment and symbol of status. Not having a spider living in your home, or a spider leaving your house to live somewhere else, is almost synonymous with "you're a bad host or don't provide for your family/hired help very well".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Spiders living in the cities designed themselves to be super fluffy, colorful, and approachable to all Roses! They don't have anything to do with color, but they think it's real fun to make their voices pop just like the Roses do. Common jobs include childcare and cooking, but anything involved with fire and keeping buildings warm and protected are expected and normal too. The spiders don't mind. They're the first ones to get the hot meals, after all! And they can leave anytime they like.
Tumblr media
There are of course some Spiders who prefer the shadier jobs, like dealing in hairdyes. Those ones typically stay out of sight, but for those Roses that are curious or need a little help to keep up their act, they always make sure you can find them >:3
Tumblr media
Most importantly though, Spiders are the backbone of all political and war shenanigans. They don't participate directly, but they keep tabs on everybody and make sure there's no foul-play going on without agreeing it'll benefit the long-term plan of balance in this world. Queen Rosamund and her son prince Wilfred have a dozen personal spiders who give them information about the Rose court, the Dragon council, and the Bug factions.

hi! absolutely love your work but havent read all of it yet, if youve already covered this feel free to ignore this, but I was wondering if you knew anything about Hushbisha? she is mentioned in the epic of gilgamesh as part of enkidus funeral rights and a search on google only gives gilgamesh pdfs or "the tablet of destinys" which idk. ill keep doing research on my own but just wanted to ask in case you knew anything. thank you for your time!!
Hushbisha (literally “its horror is good”; Irene Sibbing-Plantholt, Visible Death and Audible Distress: The Personification of Death (Mūtu) and Associated Emotions as Inherent Conditions of Life in Akkadian Sources, p. 339) does not physically appear as a character in the Epic, but she is indeed mentioned when Gilgamesh mourns Enkidu’s death and makes offerings to various deities to guarantee he’ll be welcomed warmly in the underworld (tablet VIII, lines 159-161; translation via Andrew R. George, The Babylonian Gilgamesh Epic: Introduction, Critical Edition and Cuneiform Texts, p. 661):
Tumblr media
The full list of invoked deities shows some similarities with similar passages in Death of Ur-Nammu and Death of Gilgamesh (an earlier “standalone” Gilgamesh myth, I will cover it in more detail soon-ish) but the minor underworld deities invoked don’t overlap fully; Hushbisha appears in the Death of Ur-Nammu as well, though (The Babylonian Gilgamesh…, p. 489). In both cases, she is placed directly after Namtar, which is presumed to reflect the view they were spouses (The Babylonian Gilgamesh…, p. 859). This is presumed to be a fairly old tradition, going back to the Ur III period at least (Jacob Klein, Namtar in RlA vol. 9, p. 143). The only exception from it I’m aware of is the Underworld Vision of an Assyrian Prince, where Namtar’s spouse is Namtartu, literally the feminine form of his own name (The Babylonian Gilgamesh…, p. 859).
Hushbisha’s title from the Epic of Gilgamesh is also attested in the exorcistic incantation Gattung III, line 65 (Ḫušbiša by Wilfred G. Lambert in RlA vol. 4, p. 522). Other attestations are not very numerous, and most provide no information about her beyond establishing she is Namtar’s wife. A brief survey of these I dug up in sources I have access to under the cut.
An = Anum tablet V, line 196, directly described as Namtar’s wife and placed with him in the court of Ereshkigal (Wilfred G. Lambert, Ryan D. Winters, An = Anum and Related Lists, p. 196); while this not explicitly stated, since (He)Dim(me)ku is described as Namtar’s daughter in the same source it is presumed she was her mother (idem, p. 339)
Old Babylonian An = Anum forerunner (aka “Genouillac list”), line 409, directly after Namtar (idem, p. 50)
the incantation series Udug-hul, in sequence with Bitu (the doorkeeper of the underworld) and Dimku (who is, puzzlingly, explicitly not the daughter of Namtar in this case); once again, directly identified as Namtar’s wife (Markham J. Geller, Healing Magic and Evil Demons. Canonical Udug-hul Incantations, p. 189)
the exorcistic incantation Gattung II, as one of the numerous invoked underworld deities - the full sequence consists of Lugal-irra, Meslamtaea, Nergal, Ereshkigal, Ninazu, Ningirida, Ningishzida, Azimua, Geshtinanna, Namtar, Hushbisha, Hedimku, Nirda (deified punishment), Bitu, Sharsharbid (the “butcher of the underworld”), Etana, Gilgamesh, Lugalamashpae (some sort of disease demon) and Ugur (Babylonian Gilgamesh…, p. 129).
The only other tidbit worth bringing up is that Irene Sibbing-Plantholt suggested that the fact Namtar acquired a family consisting of a wife, daughter and mother (Mardulanki) reflected the development of the idea that he can be countered with incantations or even reasoned with; she contrasts that with functionally similar Mūtu (“Death”; the name is a cognate of more famous Ugaritic Mot), who didn’t undergo similar humanization (Visible Death…, p. 338-339).

I'm doing a new art challenge. It's 10 minutes, one layer, no undoing, no erasing. Naturally I decided to draw the crew from Till Dusk Do We Part Top to bottom we have: Former King Drenn Coronoctis, Former Queen Vesuvia Coronoctis, Drake Coronoctis, Princess Littna Coronoctis, Prince Wilfre Coronoctis, and Acting Queen Kage Coronoctis. Very fitting that the only people smiling are the hellions. They're all so tired.

first chapter of my charles/edwin/cat king fairytale is posted.
excerpt:
“You alright there, captain?” asks the mage, who is walking next to Charles. He gives a tight smile, or tries to, as the mare bulldozes her way along the rocky incline. “You look a little queasy, there” she continues, teasing.
“I’m aces” Charles grits out, white knuckling the pommel of the saddle.
“Sure,” says Crystal, “and Prince Simon up there totally knows what he’s doing.” She’s making fun of the prince in one breath, and questioning what the fuck Charles thinks he’s doing at the same time.
“No, he really doesn’t,” Charles says back, quietly, “but he agreed to this, so lets not tell him, yeah?”
“Seriously though, how are we supposed to fight a dragon, Charles?” technically, she’s being insubordinate, but Charles knows Crystal well enough not to care, and also knows to respect her opinion.
“Not gonna lie, Crys, I was hoping you had some spells for that.”
“Fuck, Charles I’m a psychic, not a fucking battle mage. I can’t just wave my hand and turn the fucking thing into a butterfly.”
“Shame, that would’ve been a neat trick.”
“For real though, do we have a plan?”
Charles sighs, “we’ll have to do a bit of reconnaissance first, see if its got any obvious vulnerabilities, but I’m thinking we lure it out with a cow or something, sneak into its lair while its distracted, and hope for the best.”
               “We’re not gonna fight it?”
“Not unless we can’t get the fucker to eat a poisoned cow. Or sheep, or whatever.”
“Right,” Crystal rubs her forehead, “so then why the fuck do we need princey again?”
“gotta buy the poison, yeah? And the cow. Better it comes out of his treasury than my salary, right?”
“I doubt he’s going to like this plan, he seems like he’ll want to fight the thing,” she observes, watching the prince ahead of them gesturing wildly with his sword while Wilfred nods every so often. Charles can tell the man is only pretending to listen to whatever their patron is saying.
“He’s never actually been in a fight, I reckon, so he’ll want to fight the thing right up till he can see it, then he’ll be glad for the poison cow.” Charles nods to himself, he’s dealt with plenty of men like Prince Simon before. Full of bluster until someone actually throws a punch, or draws a weapon, and then they back off right quick and say they were only kidding. Charles father had been a man like that, beating on him and his mother until Charles had gotten away, then come back as himself instead of the scared little girl he’d left as and told the old bastard to sod off. His mum had gotten the estate then, when Charles had threatened to have the old shithead arrested.

tom and harry’s relationship is fun because it’s so classically homoerotic. the devotion, the intensity, the admiration. they’re a prince and his most loyal knight, two warriors described in all the literature as closer than brothers. maybe the real reason the writers didn’t put harry in the wwii simulation in the killing game was because they knew in their heart of hearts that there was no way he and tom wouldn’t be on some real wilfred owen shit together

2024 GP Event Story. Harold's POV Translation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oujisama had a popularity poll in 2024 and paired some of the princes that scored highly with another character acting as their wing man for an event in early March 2025.
Here Hayden/Henry is the main prince and Harold is the one helping him.
One of the ends has King Harold's pov.
HENRY / HAYDEN POV
Henry has returned from official business and is walking swiftly down the corridors of Philip Castle. He opens a door and sees MC whose face bursts into a smile when she sees him.
After many twists and turns, MC has gone from a temporary pet to his beloved.
(A/N: Don't ask me what the fuck this is about cause I haven't read his main story but apparently he forces her to go to the castle after she loses a pen Wilfred gave him and I've seen him make dog noises at her and say shit like a tiara looks better on her than a collar. 💀)
MC welcomes him home and he asks if she has been a good girl. She says yes then frowns before asking "But have you been a good boy?"
(A/N: No wonder the Philip men are popular they all have yandere tendencies. Henry has mc like a pet, Harold locks her up, idk what bs Wilfred does but I remember his infamous I want you wet from my bed not the ocean with a a sad look on his face. 💀)
MC tells him that she isn't a pet anymore. She looks away and pouts. Henry finds it attractive and cute.
He apologises to her before putting his hands on her cheek and tilting it upward.
Henry: You wouldn't do this to a pet would you?
(A/N: I HOPE THE FUCCK NOT!)
Then he gives her a slow, savouring kiss to let her know he is home now. It doesn't matter if she is with him right now, he cannot get enough of her and wants more.
He is about to deepen their kiss but MC pushes against his chest and stops him. She glares at him and he finds her angry face to be cute as well.
He kisses her lightly again to savour her warmth.
Next day
Henry goes to the library and sees MC engrossed in reading. He tells her that studying is good but she must not overdo it. MC apologises to him but says she can't help it when she's interested in a topic.
Henry: What's so interesting that you lose track of time?
MC: I'm researching where I'll be accompanying you next week on official business.
MC is training to be a princess and she makes Henry's meals so Henry is worried that she is going to crash out.
They're going to a local opening ceremony and MC will be introduced to the public. Given the low scale Henry thinks it will be perfect to get her acquainted but he is anxious.
He recalls what Lloyd told him.
Lloyd: MC is in the archives. She is working hard at her research because she does not want to bring shame onto you, Prince Henry. After dinner she came to borrow the key.
Henry is troubled because he feels as if HE'S the one who caused her trouble with everything in the past. He's happy if MC is here by his side but does MC feels happy?
Henry: Can she really be happy with me?
As her position changes in the future, the burden she must carry will become heavier and heavier.
MC mentions a beautiful blue lake near where they're going to conduct business and how she wants to see it, but the documents are old so she can't find any information on it.
Henry asks if she checked maps or social media but there is nothing about said lake. He wants to gather information about the lake including asking locals but MC stops him and says it is a burden and they can't go given his schedule.
Henry: She's putting away the documents like a good child.
His heart aches cause he wants to do something for her. He is determined to take her there.
Henry: ?!
From the corner of the room is a pillar of white light.
Henry: This light is so dazzling! What is it?!!!
When his eyesight eventually returns, he notices something - someone - standing there.
??: Where am I?
(A/N: MY BOY!)
Henry: ! *There's no way this can be!*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MC: My Prince could this person be....
Henry: Yeah
Both of them are thinking the same way. There is no mistaking it because the library they're in is decorated with portraits of all of the Kings of Philip.
Among them, the man was the spitting image of the first king, King Harold.
??: Who are you all? What are you doing here? More importantly, what on earth is this place...?
Prince Henry: With all due respect... Are you King Harold?
King Harold: ! *shocked sprite*
They try their best to speak calmly to the man, who is likely even more confused than they are.
King Harold: Indeed...I am Harold.
Prince Henry: Nice to meet you. I'm Henry A. Spencer. I'm of legitimate royal blood... and I'm your descendant.
King Harold: *shocked sprite*
King Harold: Spencer... descendant? What are you talking about? I haven't even taken a wife yet.
They explain to him that he had a time slip and travelled hundreds of years into the future. MC hands Henry a book about the History of the Royal Family of Philip.
Henry knows he can't show Harold everything so he confirms his identity by asking inoffensive things such as the founding of Philip Kingdom and Harold's origins.
King Harold: Have I really come to the future...?
Reality sets in for Harold and as Henry is about to close the book...
Harold: Wait...
With unexpected force, King Harold took control.
King Harold: "There's one thing I'd like to know..."
Prince Henry: What would you like to know?
King Harold: You know what? Nevermind...
However, after much deliberation, King Harold retracts his plan.
King Harold: I think I'll stop now. I probably shouldn't listen to this.
Prince Henry: ......*I wonder what Lord Harold wanted to know.*
The way he lowered his eyes as if to convince himself was somehow melancholic――. Upon meeting him for the first time, I felt like I had caught a glimpse of a sensitive side of the great first king.
_____________
A few days have passed since King Harold arrived in the present day...
Arisende: Oh no, it's already this late!
MC, who had brought tea, glanced at the clock in the office and spoke up.
Henry asks if she has plans and she says yes.
King Harold: Now that you mention it. You said you had lessons this afternoon.
Prince Henry:.......
MC excuses herself and leaves.
Now the King and the Prince are alone.
Henry moves from his desk and sits down opposite King Harold, who was relaxing on the sofa.
Prince Henry: ...it seems you're getting used to life in the castle.
King Harold: Yeah. I limit my range so that people around me don't find out too much. When you're away MC takes care of everything.
Prince Henry: I see. So you knew her schedule, too.
King Harold:.......
King Harold stops tilting his cup, quietly raises his eyes and smiles.
King Harold: What, are you jealous?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prince Henry is caught off guard and he is blushing hard.
Over the past few days, Henry has learnt some things about Harold. For one, the first King is very straightforward with his words and actions. Secondly despite that he loves to tease people.
Prince Henry: Well, of course I'm curious about that. MC is my girlfriend, and we'll be making our debut soon.
(A/N: HERE TUMBLR REFRESHED AND I LOST EVERYTHING I WROTE AFTER HERE.)
Henry is all like well yeah I'm concerned cause we are debuting soon.
Harold: Debuting? Like you're going to introduce her and start doing official business in the provinces?
Harold asks about MC being a baker and states that Henry was able to overcome the differences in status to be with her.
Harold tells him that not only is he jealous of him but he respects that.
Henry thinks about how the first commoner who was welcomed into the Philip Royal Family was his grandmother the former Queen.
Harold looks melancholic and has a lonely smile.
Henry wonders if the question Harold wanted to ask that night was about his own wife, the first Queen of Philip.
Harold mentions that he knows the lake they want to go to and offers to help them find it.
The next day they set off on horseback. MC is riding with Henry cause she can't ride for shit. Harold is soothing his horse and telling it that even though the horse has a stranger on it, the horse is behaving well just like his Sugar.
Henry: Sugar?
Harold: My beloved horse. (A/N: the white one from his main story.)
They find an old day running a cabin and they ask her about the lake. The lake does exist but it can only be accessed by foot or horseback. Henry realizes that he has to go with MC.
Henry handles his horse expertly to a point it makes Harold go "As expected of my descendant."
The next day they go again with Harold as their guide. When they near the lake, Harold suddenly gets off and tells them to go alone. Henry watches as he picks some wildflowers and makes it into a bouquet. Henry wonders who the recipient is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harold says he wants to go back to his time and he wants to see Sugar.
Harold thanks them both and as the white light blinds MC and Henry they hear Harold say:
"I wish you both happiness."
_____________
HAROLD END/POV
Just like back then, he is enveloped in a dazzling white light.
Here is...
The next time he opens his eyes, Harold is greeted by a familiar sight.
It was the usual castle stables.
King Harold: *Have I returned... or was everything just a dream?*
But in his hand, He is holding a bunch of wildflowers.
King Harold: *It wasn't a dream... I was definitely in the future.*
Harold: *Henry...I met my descendant and his girlfriend in the future.*
Step by step, he puts his feet onto the dirt and heads to the stall at the very back of the stable. The horse, with its shiny, sugar-white fur, stretches its neck eagerly and rubs its nose against him.
King Harold: I'm back, Sugar.
When he strokes the horse's neck with the palm of his hand, Harold's horse narrowed his eyes in pleasure.
King Harold: At that time, I used Sugar as an excuse to break up with Henry and the others.
King Harold: Henry, MC.I want you two to go on your own from here on out.
Prince Henry: What are you planning to do, King Harold?
King Harold: I want to go back to my time and see Sugar.
In reality, what he had in his mind was the smile of the person he loved - the doctor's assistant, MC.
King Henry: *Seeing Henry and his friends getting along so well, my desire to meet her grew stronger each day.*
King Harold: I wonder how MC is doing...
Sugar shook his head in annoyance at my muttering.
King Harold: I get it. I get it, so don't get so upset.
King Harold: Of course I wanted to meet you too. I'm not lying, it's true.
Smiling wryly at his jealous horse, he pats him on the cheek, gently soothing him.
Seeing Sugar's ears perk up in delight, I opened the stable door.
King Harold: I wonder why I want to see MC's face so much now.
He rides Sugar from the castle to the clinic where MC works. He ties Sugar up a little distance away and quietly watches the situation from behind a tree.
King Harold:.......!
The door opened and she comes out accompanied by an old woman who appeared to be a patient.
MC: Take care of yourself. Don't forget to take your medicine after meals.
King Harold:...MC
At first glance, her smile remains unchanged, but it actually touches his heart deeply. Until recently, as his personal physician assistant, her smile was within his reach.
King Harold: *But now, all I can do is stare at it from a distance...if it were only about our feelings, I felt like we could have connected, just one step away.*
King Harold: *However, once rumors spread, what awaited us was criticism from the nobles and the people. "As a result, even governance and the daily lives of the people MC cares about became threatened.*
Now that he had made the heart-breaking decision to step aside, all Harold could do was secretly harbor feelings for her.
King Harold: There's no way I can give this to her.
He clutched the bouquet in her hands tightly.
King Harold: * If someone finds out, we'll cause trouble for MC and the clinic again
After seeing the patient off, MC heads back inside, and he turns his back on her as well.
Without being able to say anything to her――
Leaving the clinic, with an indescribable pain in his heart, Harold gallops on Sugar to the lake of old. It's the lake close to the fields and mountains where I first met MC.
Harold: It feels like just yesterday that I was here talking to MC.
He sits in the same place as he did back then, looking out at the lake, while he gives Sugar some water and some rest.
King Harold: The two of them, reflected in the water's mirror like surface and bathed in sunlight, will be able to overcome any difficulty..."
Suddenly, he remembers the legend of the blue lake that Henry's girlfriend had so happily told me. Since it seemed like he was hiding something from him that he didn't tell Henry about it until the very end.
Harold has heard of the lake.
King Harold: I was born and raised in that region, and I've never heard of such a thing.
He imagines that this is probably a legend that came to be at a later time.
King Harold: If only I knew that legend in this day and age...I would have gone to that lake with Arisende before this happened. I've never really believed in anything superstitious.
King Harold: So this is what it means to cling to straws.
It goes beyond a wry smile and he starts laughing at himself.
King Harold: Yes, the reason I wanted to help Henry and his friends in the future was because I found myself identifying with them, we're in similar situations.
King Harold: Fortunately, it seems their dreams have come to fruition... I'm sure that hardships will continue to befall them in the future.
Perhaps it was because of this understanding that Henry's girlfriend wanted to visit a lake with such legends.
King Harold: But there is a strong desire to overcome any difficulties with Henry.
(Her strength... is somewhat similar to MC's.)
He looks down and lets out a sigh, and there, beyond that, the flower was swaying again today.
The pale blue flowers were in bloom the day he first encountered MC.
King Harold: No good. Everything I see is connected to MC. That's how much I can't give up on this idea.
King Harold: I wonder if someday I too can break free from all my ties and conflicts and confess like Henry did.
No one answered me, and only the wind blowing across the lake caressed my cheeks.
(No... that's not it. It's not a question of whether you can or can't. You just have to do it.)
With strong will and determination, just like Henry and the others.
Harold picks a flower blooming at his feet and adds it to a bouquet that has transcended time.
(To achieve this, let's do everything we can now)
King Harold: Please wait for me, MC.
Putting unchanging feelings and determination into a bouquet...he places it on a small rock nearby as if it were a token of his vow, then stood up straight.
_________
When Harold left the lake--
A new figure appeared on the lakeside, passing by from a different direction.
MC: Is that... Sugar?
The source of the murmur was MC, who had come to pick medicinal herbs in the nearby fields.
MC: This bouquet is...
Her feet, too, naturally leads her to the place where she had once spoken with Harold.
MC finds a bouquet of flowers placed on a small rock, almost like an altar, and quietly picks it up.
MC: The flower that bloomed at Lord Harold's feet that time...
Clutching the bouquet to her chest, MC gazed out at the lake dyed in the setting sun.
As if thinking of a loved one...
______
Returning to the castle from his long ride with Sugar, he headed straight to his office. Feeling renewed, Harold stands by the window and looks out the window, imagining the streetscape of Philip.
King Harold: First of all, I need to be recognized by the people as a king worthy of ruling this country.
If you can get results and increase the number of people who understand, the way will surely open up.
Then, his eyes meet with his reflection in the window and Harold suddenly remembers Henry.
King Harold: I thought the faces looked quite similar. But...Maybe it was just my imagination, but I could faintly see MC there. Even our descendants are doing their best to stand up to the challenge.
King Harold: There's no reason for me not to show my resolve.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door and the butler, Cyril, came in.
Cyril: You called for me, King Harold?
King Harold: Yes. It's about that procurement of materials for the shipbuilding project... I want to move forward with the next order as soon as possible.
Cyril: Eh... already?
King Harold: We'll increase the number of workers and complete the ship faster than planned. And then--
King Harold: *First, we must ensure the stability of the country and remove anxiety from the people. For the sake of a peaceful future for Henry and his friends. And I will definitely overcome adversity and achieve it. *
A future where we can live together with our loved ones.

Something I find extremely refreshing in AoB is how the narrative lets Rozemyne be a warrior, and the one with the most political influence on her own.
Ive read too many Isekai and almost all the time the power a Female Lead wields is entirely on who she marries or who is interested in her. She may be just the daughter of a marquis, but the crown prince is so infatuated with her, he’ll do anything! So that means he’ll solve all her problems for her!
Which is, fine in some cases. But I noticed this means that if she gets wronged, she’s the never the one to get revenge (even in so called “villainess” stories).
This ties into the idea of women having to remain “good”, so while they are allowed to want revenge, they can never enact it. Or at least not be the one to, through violence, deal the final blow. This would make them directly responsible for their actions. So while the villain/villainess can die, it can never be the FL who uses the sword to kill them. It always has to be through the Male Lead, another Villain, or even the Court System.
So by having the Male Lead be the one to physically enact the revenge or wielding the power - the Female Lead gets to come out as the “good” one in the READER’s eyes. Because her actions can never be morally grey (in fear of alienating readers)
HOWEVER by doing this you also make her power subservient to the man’s affection towards her. And makes her overall power to come off as…useless in some cases.
I just read one where the, supposedly, genius swordswoman is almost r*ped. She does try to attack the man, but gets overwhelmed. The prince is the one who jumps into the action to not only save her, but kill the man. Which was infuriating cause: Why did the author chose to rob her main character of being the one to hurt the men who hurt her? Minutes later she does kill a man, so it was entirely so she could be saved by a man from an even worse man.
But AoB doesn’t do that.
Rozemyne is powerful, because she wields insane amounts of power as Rozemyne. She’s the one who creates trends, she’s the one who knows the Bible, she’s the one who created paper books, she’s the one forming alliances and creating her own “faction” of sorts that is 120% loyal to her.
Never does her power become related to who she’s engaged with. Her power is inherent to her, and people try to tie her down or control her via marriage. She gets engaged to Wilfred because she’s becoming too influential and they hope that that can be transferred to Wilfred and cement HIS position as the next in line. She gets engaged to Sisgwald because she’s the one who is closest to getting the Book of Mestionora and they NEED her be part of the royal family.
The only instance in which she wields the power of who she’s engaged to get away with anything - is during the Ahrensbach attack and it’s simply a
Tumblr media
Which facilitated everything but given the circumstances, she was gonna do it even if he didn’t give her his blessing.
Even with her endgame partner, Ferdinand, the dynamic is so different.
In most stories the FL attracts the attention of progressively more powerful and higher-ranking-than-her men, and most always ends up with the one with the highest political power.
In more than one occasion I’ve seen a FL ditch the knight who’s been with her since day 1, to be with the crown prince cause he’s the one who will make her the most powerful woman in the room. It’s always framed as “true love” but sometimes it’s done so poorly you can see that’s just the author wanting her to end up as a princess.
Ferdinand is never the most powerful man in the room. At least politically speaking. Yes, he’s the smartest, most capable and the one pulling the strings, but that doesn’t translate to political power. In part 2, in the temple, the one with the most power is Bezewanst. And part 3 an onwards, you could argue Rozemyne is always the one with the higher rank.
In the temple, she’s the High Bishop, and in the castle she’s an archduke candidate with Leisgang blood. Ferdinand is the High Priest and the half brother of the archduke with no real faction behind him. Rozemyne is aware that titles aren’t the only thing that matters and Ferdinand is obviously the best because he’s capable - but that’s not the norm in most Isekai stories.
It’s even used at times as a way to alíviate Ferdinand’s burden. She’s the High Bishop - she’s capable of denying extra work and even ordering him to take care of himself.
Even as Ferdinand is married off, the one creating connections to the royal family to alíviate his pain is Rozemyne, not the other way around. The one wielding her power to force others to protect her loved ones is HER. Ferdinand is, up to that point, only trying to save himself and Ehrenfest. Rozemyne fits the archetype of a Male Lead far better than Ferdinand in some cases.
And while she never gets to give out the order or kill someone whos wronged her directly, it doesn’t feel bad because one, Rozemyne rarely holds a grudge and sees them getting disposed outside of her eyes as the best way to handle it. Because two, she hates blood and unnecessary violence. And that, in the narrative, is genuinely presented as a flaw. It’s not a “she’s so pure she can’t be mean”, it’s a “she would do it but she genuinely can’t stomach it”. She could do it, she would rather not.
There’s also the fact that she’s genuinely good at combat - at least as a strategist, healer and commander. Her inability to wield a sword to directly attack others (but she did use the spear once) and frail nature, is not doesn’t feel like an excuse to not have her kill, but a limit. She can’t do everything. She’s filling a lot of positions, having her grab a sword is not only out of character but unnecessary.
The only people who she seems to hold a very real grudge against are Georgine and Detline, and that’s entirely for what they’ve done to others, not her. And while I’m still in part 8, her not being the one to directly kill then of get rid of them in the future, does not seem bad. Because Ferdinand and Sylvester have waaaay more reasons to hate them and get their revenge.

Considering I've never talked about, drawn, or even shared the name of that second character from this post, I'd be more shocked if you did recognize him! As for who he is-

tagged by @cattus-catos 💛 who has excellent opinions and always accurate takes (especially about Crassus) -
last book i read: Dragonfly by Frederic S Durbin. I try to intersperse my mostly classics and french revolution reading with my second great love, fantasy books. Dragonfly is a cute little creepy standalone novel that I read when I was a teenager and ended up reading again recently.
book i recommend: Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. I have no explanation exactly for why but this is hands-down my favourite book. So it goes.
book i couldn't put down: Babel by R F Kuang. I was a bit concerned because I generally don't enjoy the plots of BookTok books, BUT the subtitle (The Necessity of Violence) intrigued me. And let me tell you I was blown away by this book. It was a bit clunky at times but I loved every second and coming from a country that is still recovering from its colonial past, with our own national language that is considered uneducated, crass, and rough, it just hit very hard.
book i've read twice: I'm a chronic book repeater because my brain is swiss cheese, but the one book I regularly re-read for fun (and sadness) is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. It's such a good book, actually I'm probably due for a re-read again! Also Watership Down by Richard Adams, I love that book so much ✨prince with a thousand enemies✨. And of course I have read the Odyssey several times!
a book on my tbr: my current TBR list stands at over 300 books (my Goodreads is Pompey Watching if you're interested). I think the next book I pick up will be The Books of Jacob by Olga Tokarczuk.
a book i've put down: Decolonising the Maltese Mind by Charles Xuereb. Not because it's bad but because I get so pissed off at the British every few paragraphs that I genuinely just need to take a mental break.
a book on my wishlist: oh dear there are so many. I desperately want the clothbound versions of the Odyssey, the Iliad, the Aeneid, Paradise Lost, and Inferno. I also REALLY want a physical copy of Sextus Pompeius by Anton Powell and Kathryn Welch, but its so expensive.
a favourite book from childhood: The Edge Chronicles The Edge Chronicles The Edge Chronicles I will never be okay about them, the plot, the arcs, the art, the characters!!!
a book you would give to a friend: Feral by George Monbiot. I am first and foremost an environmental/animal girlie and while I have some criticisms about this book, it genuinely argues for a lot of what I believe in when speaking about wildlife rehabilitation.
a book of poetry/lyrics you own: I sadly own very few poetry books! I do have a copy of Wilfred Owen's war poetry which makes me far too emotional for my own good.
a non-fiction book you own: so many! I have a lot of animal behaviour books, wild fauna books, french revolution books, and ancient Rome books. I guess one of my favourites would be Choosing Terror by Marisa Linton.
currently reading: House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewaki, Lucan's Pharsalia (Susan Braund trans), yay Pharsaliabookclub, and Xuan s posts made me start the Epic of Gilgamesh but I'm only at the introduction so far!
planning on reading next: I never quite know what I'm going to read next but it will probably The Books of Jacob by Olga Tokarczuk. I also want to get started on the Thebaid, but I fear reading it at the same time as Pharsalia will do some irreparable damage to my brain!
I'm tagging @kushielsmercy (Shiel this is my Rome sideblog hello and welcome sorry you had to find out like this) and @burritofriedrich ❤️❤️❤️
