Record 01: Christmas Day, 25th December 20XX - Chapter 2
Pairings: Primordial God! Chronos/Ananke! Nico di Angelo
Rating: T
Chapter Summary:
“I want to open mine too,” Percy complained, his hands twitching at his sides as he looked at the gift pile. “They’re not the only ones cold,” Jason mumbled underneath his breath. “You get to open yours like everyone else - at Dr. Claymore’s,” Nico firmly denied them. “Annabeth, Piper and Frank can’t attend the party later, so they’re getting theirs early.” Jason and Percy were well-aware of that. Still though… “Ahhh… it’s so soft and so comfortable! It’s like getting a personal hug from Nico,” Piper exclaimed as she wrapped her scarf around her shoulders and playfully snuggled in it. It took everything to suppress the bubbling laughter in her throat as Percy and Jason gave her aggrieved looks. “Best scarf I’ve ever owned.”

Mythologic Geekery: Eros
Okay, so let me talk about the last god that shows up in Stray Gods. Eros. And talk about his background. Or... Well, what we have in terms of that.
Because here is the thing: Yeah, we do not know where he comes from. Basically, mythologies stemming from the Proto-Indo-European stuff, feature a lot of goddesses of love and sex, but... yeah, not a lot of gods. Male personifications of sex and lust usually tend to be characterized in a negative way when it comes to Indo-European comparative stuff.
Now, don't get me wrong: Eros, like most of the Greek Gods, got defanged during the medieval period and the early, when they kinda got included in literature and theatre. So, yes, Eros always had this lust aspect to him. Still, he is not as negatively framed as Asmondeus for example.
What makes him unique, really, is that he definitely has the love and sensuality aspect of sex in there. More passion, than just lust.
Okay, next thing about him: While he does seem to originate with the Hellenistic stuff, but in the earliest phase of it. Before Olympus was a thing yet, Eros was already there. Now, he does not go as far back as Pan (and Hermes), because he originates with Hellenistic Greece. But in the oldest stuff that we have written down, he is actually not a son to Aphrodite (obviously, given Aphrodite came to Greece much later), but he is one of the Primordials.
If you have played Hades, you probably know at least a bit about the Primordials. They were not the Titans, but primordial forces of the world. That is Chaos, Gaia (Earth), Tartarus (the abyss), Eros (desire) and Nyx (the night/darkness). Note that in some versions Eros is there from the beginning, in some other versions he is the son of Nyx. Nyx gives brith to a pleathora of other primordial forces, that are not yet gods or titans. Like Aether (Light), Dolos (Pain) and Thanatos (Death).
And those are quite interesting in some regard, because they are a very unique to the Greek mythology. Even within other Indo-European mythologies, we do not have these primordials as this first thing that comes to the world. Usually... it is more orderly.
So, there might be a chance, that this is something left over from the people living in Greece prior to contact with the Indo-European mythology.

I think for relationship wise I’m going to have Ophiuchus use the Apollo version, making him Pollux, Heracles, and Bootes {Arcas}‘s half brother, and Orion’s cousin. Probably more than that but I can’t remember all the Greek demigod/god related constellations
#Eros and Aphrodite for Pisces don’t really have parents in the versions I use#Eros is the primordial version of him#And Aphrodite is the ballsack seafoam version#Astral project

There's probably an interesting story to be made about how mythologically marriage is older than love
#assuming you do interpret it that way#like non primordial Eros and Aphrodite popping up after Chronos died#@

callie! tell me about the interesting army members 👀 were there any outside of the olympians or the minor gods who got cabins?
Hello, dear anon! I deeply apologize for not responding soon. Who would have thought moving would take so much out of me?
Anyway, great question! We have a lot of demigods and some demititans. We have two children of Thanatos, Azrael and Lorelai, (ask @phoenix--flying about them as they belong to them). Lorelai is my girlfriend. <3
Darcel a son of Selene (also ask @phoenix--flying)
Hina a daughter of Helios
Polaris a son of Asteria
Amara a child of Eros (she belongs to @phoenix--flying), and Erin and Aaron Onoasis twin children of Eros

Another reminder that Greek mythology is always somehow symbolic, metaphorical, allegorical, since we are dealing with anthropomorphic personifications and other embodiments of cosmic powers.
For example: Demeter has sex with both Zeus and Poseidon. Something-something about the relationship of the Earth with the Sky and the Sea (or the celestial and chthonian powers). ESPECIALLY since these relationships are said to happen at the beginning of the world, in the primordial times during which the world settled itself for what it is now.
Herakles' wedding with Hebe, the personification of youth, checks in with when he becomes an immortal god (aka, an eternally young entity). What better way to symbolize a hero escaping the clutches of death than by him becoming the husband of the spirit of eternal youth?
Why is Hestia never leaving Olympus? Something-something about her being the literal personification of the hearth, which is at the center of the house/community and does not move.
Why is Ares getting his ass kicked by Athena? Because Athena is civilization, and Ares savagery, and in the Ancient Greek mindset intelligence, wisdom and craft will always be above brutality, bloodlust and random cruelty.
Do I need to spell it out that the myth of Persephone-Hades-Demeter is about the cycle of the seasons, and how the earth renews itself and brings back life after a time of death?
And I wonder why Ares' companions during his mass-slaughters are called Phobos, Deimos and Eris - Fear, Panic and Discord... Why would the goddess that breaks harmony and sows feuds and chaos be depicted as the close sister of the god of the ravages of war and of the brutality of conflicts, what a strange mystery!
And I can go on, and on, and on. Remember, the Greek gods aren't just super-heroes or wizards (that's more in line with more "humanized" mythologies, like the Irish or Nordic ones). They are embodiments of concepts and ideas, personifications of natural forces and cosmic powers, they are living allegories and fleshed metaphors. Zeus wields the lightning because he IS the lightning and thunder. Dionysos is both the bringer of joy and madness because he IS alcohol. Hades is both the name of the god of the dead, and of the realm of the dead. Hestia's name is literaly "hearth" in Greek, Hebe "youth", Nyx "night", Gaia "earth", Eros "desire". You can write "Eris met Helios at Okeanos' palace" or you can write "Strife encountered the Sun at the palace of Ocean" and that is the EXACT SAME THING!
[Mind you to limit the gods to being JUST allegories is also a mistake not to make. Greek deities are much more than just X concept or X idea... But one part of the myths will always be, down the line, some weather metaphor or some natural cycle motif]
#greek mythology#greek gods#this is also for almost all other mythologies in the world#but we'll stick with greek for now#greek goddesses#greek myths

The Evermore Grimoire: Greek Mythology
Khaos (Χαεος meaning "Gap" or "Chasm") was the first of the primeval gods to emerge at the creation of the universe in Greek Mythology. Personified as a female, she was the primal feature of the universe, a shadowy realm of mass and energy (mostly negative and dark) within the world that would stem forth in later genealogies. In the beginning, Khaos was all that there was, the dark majesty and mystery of creation incarnate. It was from her that the first three primordial gods sprang forth: Gaia (goddess of earth), Tartarus (the Underworld) and Eros (god of love), the fairest among the deathless gods. Gaia would go on to become the mother of everything beautiful within the world; Khaos however would not be as fortunate. Out of herself, she would give birth to two more children: Erebus (god of darkness) and Nyx (goddess of the night). Their sexual union produced the luminous offspring, Aether (god of the divine air) and Hemera (goddess of the day). However it would her daughter Nyx that would bring fear to the almighty god, Zeus (king of the gods).

cursed manwhore! A.U called ‘whoreman’.
the whole thing is basically just that instead of Odysseus offering his body / seducing others so that he can get home, Ody’ is just an absolute freak by nature who tries to fucks whoever he wants, just bc he can. (don’t worry, him n Penelope had an agreement ‘bout it :33) also because unfortunately, he is way too ‘appreciative’ to anyone who he deems ‘attractive’.
Eury’ and the Crew know this all to well n are constantly trying to drive away any potential victims of their captain’s said Freakyness, bc those thighs on him are a death sentence, everything is a death sentence srsly run 4 ur lives this man is danger to everyone’s stamina.
Events play out literally exactly the same as canon but now w/ slutty Odysseus exuding horny energy like he’s Primordial! Eros in disguise.
hfhggggg Odysseus’s blinding enthusiasm on getting down dirty is so powerful that even Poseidon n Zeus, two of the most *cough* ‘active’ Gods r just like “wow—“ upon seeing Ody’, still fully clothed, yet somehow giving off some of the strongest ‘fuck me’ vibes known to everyone, doing the Babygirl pose with absolutely NO SHAME & NO HESITATION AS HE LOOKS THEM IN THE EYES LIKE “you down to fuck gorgeous? 😏😏😏”
idk why I thought this 😭
Edit: shout out to @lunaria1 4 the suggestion that Whore! Ody’ sings Britney Spears so while the story still has all the canon songs, there’s now also a bunch of lyric parody vers of Britney Spears songs ]:)))

altars for titans and protogenoi
This post more than any of the others is going to be mostly upg or spg. Hardly anyone in antiquity spent a lot of effort worshipping most of these deities, especially the protogenoi, so resources are limited. If you have suggestions or personal addendums, feel free to leave them in the comments. I made a lot of decisions based on what the herbs/crystals are usually associated with: for example, black tourmaline is associated with Nyx (the night) therefore Chaos (the embodiment of the primordial soup and basically the universe) has black tourmaline too.
Also, all the deities on this list can be honored with libation of wine, milk, honey, and oil; offerings of meat or desserts; and burning frankincense/myrrh.

Hear me out, here me out…
“And that it was from Chaos that the first three primordial gods sprang forth: Gaea (Earth), Tartarus (the Underworld), and Eros (Love) - Hesiod's Theogony
Gaea/Earth: Ariadne
Tartarus/The Underworld: Eurydice
Eros/Love: Caeneus
Purely me headcanoning my heart little away. But I love how in a sense they all represent the three eternal beings ‘of chaos’ that make up creation incarnate.
Ariadne: Who is now the ‘Mother of her people and her land’ as president. A representation of feminine power. Life
Eurydice: The first person to return from the Underworld and essentially, conquer/master death. Death
Caeneus: Sweet, sweet Caeneus who embodies love, the driving force of creation. Love
They don't embody the return to Chaos per say, rather the power that sprang from it. The necessary cycle of death and rebirth, destruction and creation that Zeus has selfishly stalled. That they, as a trio will restart.
#And then you have Orpheus and Dionysus#A strange duo until you consider both the Orphic and Dionysian Mysteries both revolved around that same principle of Death and Rebirth.#Orpheus is said to have been a prophet of Dionysos who established the Dionysian mysteries#And#Spoilers for an ancient Greek mystery cult prophesy here#Prophisied Dionysus the twice born taking Zeus's place as king of the gods#It's all about death and rebirth and love#It's all about that ever turning cylce#Anywho#Thank you for listening to my Ted talk#😅#kaos netflix#kaos#caeneus#ariadne#eurydice

Hymn to Sekhmet
by Joey Rivers (ascendingaeons)
O Sekhmet, Great Eye of Ra, the First and the Last Healer and Destroyer, Mother and Daughter You Who accepted the Command of Ra, Your Father To cleanse the Two Lands of Isfet But Your nature was too mighty, Great of Strength as You Are Wanton and unrestrained, You ravaged Earth as a purifying flame And as Ra looked on and saw His Eye, He was stricken with pause By the Will of the Sun, Your Rage was quieted by a crimson brew And into transformative slumber You fell, Great Goddess And from Your great Rage, Het-Heru rose A new Eye was christened, of eros sublime And you, Great Mother, knew the sadness of regret
You, Great Goddess, know the measure of rage unbound And so You Stand, Great Mother of War, in defense and duty Of the Principles and Consequences of Ma’at Your Children are many, Great Lady of Life Diverse in their multitudes, empowered by their tribulation
Yours is the soldier, Your Mighty Sekhem made flesh and bone Entrenched in a maelstrom of fire and blood Returning home to a nation that does not understand him
Yours is the survivor, a living branch of Your burning Will triumphant Endeavoring to rise above the quagmire of loss and agony Through You their struggle is transmuted into the golden light of ka ascendant
Yours is the mother, she who knows sacrifice and sleepless nights A font unyielding of love and pride, of smiles and laughter perfected They who bear the weight of the world so a child can know childhood
Yours is the healer, an alchemist of the ontological persuasion He who is humbled by the frailty beholden to human experience He who ushers Your Sekhem through the riptide of transformative loss
Yours is the artist, through whose passions course Your Divine Fire Who walks the scales of inspiration and madness, knowing Creation unfiltered An alchemist versed in the milieus of perception
For You, Great Goddess, are the very Force of Change You are that which makes men tremble so Such an unnecessary fear, of wisdom and experience untouched Were I You, I would feel such sadness But how You smile, Great One! How You laugh! How You fight! You are not “she who cowers before Apep!” NO! You are the Great Lioness Who rends Chaos asunder! You fight and rage and bite and tear Passion and emotion alive and unrestrained!
You are Love, Great Goddess You are Fear, Great Goddess You are Devotion, Great Goddess You are Loss, Great Goddess You are Health, Great Goddess You are Sickness, Great Goddess This is why I call You the Mother of Life Your Ka is the very essence of experience! Your Sekhem is the very wind of change!
When I first called upon You, timid and unsure, I beheld Your Gaze, a window of fire open before my face And as quickly as You Saw me, You left And again when I called to You with offering of water and bread Exhausted by grief and devotion, tirelessly sung from a caregiver’s heart You came to me and my eyes were opened to You! As I lay without sleep, You stood at my bedside Stroking my back with strong hands of fire Whispering strength and courage into my ear As a sentinel You walked with me, a Mother Lioness guarding Her cub Such loyalty and tenderness You showed And my eyes were forever opened to Your nature
You are the very Force of Creation, the Monad of Being From which stems those primordial principalities Love and Fear, Physis and Logos, Known and Unknown Order and Disorder, Life and Death, Dynamism and Stasis
I offer henu to You, Great Goddess of Creation The endless potentiality and movement of the living cosmos The Fires Divine that Become living sinews and living earth
I offer henu to Your Husband Ptah, the Cosmic Smith Patron of artisans, of those who tirelessly toil In the pursuit of Bringing Into Being but a shard of the Sacred Unmanifest
I offer henu to Your Son, the Beautiful Nefertem The Ageless Lotus that rose from the Benben Stone The First Splendid Light to Shine in the churning Waters of Nun
It was You Who held my right hand as I accepted the mark of a healer And embraced me as a Mother would Her graduating son I offer You my pain, Great Goddess So that You may transmute it into Strength I offer You my fear, Great Goddess So that You may transmute it into Courage I offer You my uncertainty, Great Goddess So that You may transmute it into Wisdom
Into Your Belly I give of myself to unleash my greatest potential To burst from Your Bosom, shining and emboldened For there is nothing that is beyond Your Reach, Great Mother It is for me, now, to See that nothing is beyond my own
Dua Sekhmet! Dua Sekhmet! Dua Sekhmet!
