Decorative Sunday
This Sunday we present a selection of original paste papers by New York paste-paper artist Claire Maziarczyk from Maziarcyck Paste Papers by English book-arts author and fine-press printer Claire Bolton, published in Oxford, England at Claire and David Bolton's Alembic Press in 1991. The book, printed in a limited edition of 175 copies by Claire Bolton and quarter bound in cloth with Maziarczyk's paste paper-covered boards (first image), includes nineteen samples of Claire Maziarczyk's paste papers, with descriptions of how they are made. The text also includes a history of paste papers and notes on the range of patterns used.
After varied experiences as an elementary school art teacher, a teaching technician at Cooper Union, and a bookbinder and administrator at the New York Center for Book Arts, Maziarczyk began making paste papers in 1982 to create decorative sheets for book covers. She soon began to make production paste papers to be sold to bookbinders and art supply stores. This led to a commission from Red Ozier Press to produce some custom designs for their book covers. In 1985, she began to use paints made by Golden Artist Colors that had a wider range of colors with more intense shades and a range of metallics that didn't oxidize. She kept adding more and more patterns to her repertoire and by the time this book was printed she had 48 papers of different patterns.
Our copy of this book is another donation from the estate of our late friend Dennis Bayuzick.

why does everything i get really into always end up being so god damn niche. by the year 2035 i am going to be blogging exclusively about the interpersonal relationships between the pillbugs and snails hiding underneath the bricks lining the flowerbeds in my parent's garden.
#im falling hard into the virvox guys rn sowwy. i like em a lot hee hee. i didnt realize just how small the fanbase for em was tho#actually i didnt realize how small the company that makes them were either. i got so used to the yamahas and cryptons of the vsynth world#that i forgot that like honestly. a lot of the voicebank makers and some of the software makers themselves#theyre like companies of like maybe 5 employees with like no funding LOL not a bad thing but i forgor#but yeah i was looking up to see if there was like. a fanon reason why people shipped takehiro and ryusei? not judging because i get it#i like took one look at the virvox guys and immediately slotted them as a very strange boyband (a catboy and a middle aged dragon man....)#and also took a second look at takehiro and ryusei and assumed they were childhood friends. i saw the doujin flash before my eyes#but also looking into it it seems the fanbase is also like. 20 people. and like 3 of them ship that#and at least one person ships whiteCUL and ryusei? why not LOL when it comes to vsynths sometimes a ship can be spearheaded by like#one very prolific artist HGDJKDFSHDJK which actually reminds me. honestly i dont really have many vsynth ships#i guess i dont really partake in a lot of shipping stuff deeply but i like romance!! you know i like love stories. you know this#i mean i keep calling the eclipsed sounds characters the celestial polycule for a reason tho. im not joking around about this#this is serious to me. they are stars and moons and suns and together they hang out and kiss. in the sky. this is serious to me#also i do like solaria x eleanor forte actually. its a bit random but i understand it. i understand it#and of course the aformentioned takehiro x ryusei. and also the whole virvox polycule. get that old man in here too#(what do they call people like me. a multishipper? i do that a lot. you know this from my otome game fanart LOL)#OH and i dont remember either of their names rn but i like that the cevio bank anju inami voiced has like a big fat crush on like#that girl with the brown hair. i like that theyre like. besties (turning into something more wink wonk)#thinks with all my brain. i think thats it. i dont know why theres so little. i think its because i think of them as like#audio sample libraries first and foremost and i forget about their characters and relationships LOL#but im not against the idea of making some audio sample libraries kiss...... not at all#picks up a guitar sampler and a sound effect cd. presses them together.#hee hee. they kiss

deeply compelled by this photo
#heretic tag#finishing rec lists by doing the most important part - using my 30 image allowance to splice up the text#and well they can't all make it... and i'm fond enough of this photo i'm posting it on its own#I Just Think It's Interesting (and slightly comical) how friendly they are to each other in person for the most part#like you'll get them saying the foulest shit about them in the press and then u compare with the footage/photos from the time and go?#now sure you could say being polite to a coworker you hate is an incredibly low bar. but. like. it's often not one riders clear!!#I feel fairly confident about why this is the case from valentino's side of the equation#casey's is a little more... hm because the thing is it's not like we have a big enough feud sample size to compare with#but i just find it something kinda fun about him... like yeah he's blunt to the point of being wildly tactless...#but also friendly with valentino who he thinks is basically the devil... he has layers...#//#brr brr#WARM smiles towards someone he at this stage definitely loathes as a rider if nothing else... idk it's interesting#it does add a specific fun vibe to that rivalry imo#like they are SO nasty to each other in the press and then it's all :)) how have you been valentino :) congrats on the wonderful race :)#the list is done btw i need to read it through two more times to grammar check (not fact check i don't believe in that) and then i'll Post

Hi Yara! What is your favorite place on the Moby Dick?
"My room! It's a repurposed supply closet, so it's not very big, but it's cozy. And I don't have to share with any of the men, either."
Ask Yara (or any of my OCs) anything!
#oc: bravada yara#ask yara#my ocs#my art#asked and answered#the photo on her bedside table is of her and ace#the pressed fern was a sample that turned out so nicely she decided to frame it because she was proud of it lol#most of the books are about history or botany or other nonfiction topics#but there are a few jane austen-esque social commentary/romance books in there too lol#i feel like yara would be a jane austen fan if jane austen existed in the op universe

Books of 2023. THAT WE MAY LIVE and NO EDGES from Two Lines Press.
NO EDGES came in my Migrations subscription box earlier this year, and I finally got around to reading it this week! It's a collection of Swahili fiction translated to English. I love little multi-author anthologies because it's the perfect amount of taste testing without committing. My favorites were A Neighbor's Pot by Lusajo Mwaikenda Israel and the excerpt from Nakuruto by Clara Momanyi.
Up next is THAT WE MAY LIVE, which is speculative Chinese fiction in translation! The whole series of books looks really cool, so I'll probably be adding all of these to my library piecemeal.
#books of 2023#book photography#my photography#books#calico#two lines press#in translation#no edges#that we may live#i will not be tagging authors there are simply Too Many lmao#featuring the nano pen and only truly orange mug i own (the owl is like orange brown lol)#i also read no edges over like three days because the stories are short and the book is short and there's a lot of white space lol#good little morsels#i think i prefer multi author anthologies to one author anthologies because there's more Variety?? like i go for collections for a sampling#--of everything and that's easier with More Authors#one quibble with these i've seen on goodreads is that there's not much Context Up Front#which is true. the stories are presented without comment#so far both of these have been themed by language/region but apparently they've got other themes too#the author and translator blurbs in the back are helpful though!!#unfortunately it doesn't look like i can find a copy of the whole of NAKURUTO (which is a novel) in translation anywhere lolsob#so that's kind of a bummer because i did like what i read!!#very excited for the chinese one because the stories look Weird and Fucked Up and that's My Jam

Not to brag, but my uncle sent a photo of my grandpa with a moon rock to the family and was like "Maybe Jareth can figure out which rock it is" and within an hour of reading the email I had with what I would estimate to be at least 95% certainty. It was this one. Booya
#As much as anything it's familiarity with Grandpa's work#I couldn't just jump into a photo of any moon sample and figure it out like that#Although I probably could do so with no more than like a day if pressed#In that there's only like a hundred or so individual samples and they're very well doccumented#But this one I was narrowing down from four#Three of which could be rejected for pretty straightforward reasons#And the fourth of which more or less matched the photo perfectly
